Screen Shot 2014-07-01 at 8.45.03 PM.png

Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for Horrible Bosses 2, and it looks pretty damn hilarious. I really enjoyed the first movie, and after watching this teaser, I'm convinced that the sequel is going to be just good.

Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day reteam for more insane hijinks. It looks like the sequel is going to involve a kidnapping. The teaser shows them visiting Kevin Spacey's character in prison. If you don't recall, he was arrested at the end of the first film. It also features the return of Jennifer Aniston, who is still enjoying her crazy fetishes. Jamie Foxx is coming back to help them pull off being hardcore criminals.

The movie also stars Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz. It's set to be released on November 26th!

SHERLOCK Will Return in 2015 with Christmas Special

Two long years separated the second and third seasons of the hit BBC series Sherlock, and it looks like that's about how long we'll have to wait to see Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch back in the roles they so awesomely portray.

While speaking to the Telegraph, Freeman revealed that filming is scheduled to start early 2015 for a Christmas special that will obviously air around Christmas time that same year. That special will be followed by three new episodes! The reason we have to wait so long for these shows to get made is because the two main actors are in high demand, and they've been very busy. This is what Freeman had to say:

"It looks pretty likely. I’m speaking off-message here - if this was New Labour I’d get fired - [but] a Christmas special is what I understand.”

He goes on to reveal that his wife, Amanda Abbington, who joined the last series as Watson’s on-screen wife, would be back. Spoiler Alert ahead for those who haven't read any of the Sherlock Holmes books. When speaking about his wife's character he says:

"Certainly, yes, for the foreseeable future. While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. So he [Watson] gets married, and then Mary dies - so at some point presumably she’ll die."

So it looks like some dark times are ahead for these characters. I'm a huge fan of this show, and as long as they keep getting made, I don't care how long I have to wait. I find comfort in knowing that the series will keep coming back as long as the actors want to keep it going.

16-minutes of video footage from the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron has surfaced. This was shot about three months ago when they were shooting in Italy. It features Elizabeth Olsen filming scenes as Scarlet Witch, some set prep, and extras running around in a frenzy. It's a cool birds eye view of what is going down on the set. Here's an adorably fun series of fan art by tumblr user PIPO. It's a series of character drawings of every costume that Chris Evans has worn as Steve Rogers in the Marvel movies. These would actually be kind of cool to have on the walls of a kids room for parents who are Captain America fans. Thanks to io9 for the tip!

"Caesar, everyone's depending on you."

20th Century Fox has released an extended TV spot for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that not only features some new footage from the movie, but also includes a lot of positive reviews from films critics who have seen the movie. I've looked at most of the reviews I could find on this movie and I have yet to see a negative one. That's got to say something good about this movie. I wasn't sure if director Matt Reeves would be able to pull this off, but from the looks of it, he may have made a sequel that is actually better than the first movie.

I also provided a featurette that gives us a look at the large scale practical sets that were built for the film that helped bring this story to life.

It comes out in theaters on July 11th, and I'll be there!

Director Steven Spielberg has made a ton of amazing movies throughout the course of his career. He's got a couple busy years ahead of him as well as he's now set to direct an untitled cold war thriller with Tom Hanks, and an adaptation of the Roald Dahl book, The BFG. As a way to pay tribute to the filmmaker, YouTube user 0221458715 edited together this great retrospective.

It was also announced yesterday that Universal Picture was releasing a Blu-ray box set that includes films such as Duel, The Sugarland Express, Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. That set will be available for purchase on October 13th. Thanks to The Playlist for the heads up!

Watch the video below, and let us know what your favorite Spielberg movie is.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 Officially Rated PG-13

maxresdefault.jpg

We've been hearing rumors that Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables 3 would be rated PG-13. That rumor is now truth. ERC Box Office revealed that the final chapter in the Expendables franchise has been rated PG-13 for "violence including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language." So the violence and language have obviously been toned down for this installment.

Stallone said that the first two movies might have gotten a PG-13 as well, but they both ended up being R, which is what I thought would happen with this sequel. That's not the case, though. They obviously took the PG-13 rating so that the movie had a better chance of making more money. As long as the movie entertains I don't care what the rating is, but it has been fun watching over-the-top violence in these films.

I guess if you want to see hardcore R-rated violence anymore you just have to watch TV.

AUDITION is Getting an American Adaptation

The-Audition.jpg

Audition is one crazy Japanese film. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a you need to experience to believe. It's based on the 1997 novel by Ryu Murakami, and the story follows "a lonely widower who gets more than he bargains for when he puts out a fake casting call to find a new girlfriend." The events that follow are unbelievably insane!

The original film was directed by Takashi Miike, and it has gained quite a large cult following since its release in 1999. The new film will be directed by Richard Gray, and Deadline gives some details on the story saying that the "unlucky protagonist is Sam Davis, who lives alone with his son following the death of his wife seven years prior and is convinced by a filmmaker friend to stage the fake auditions. The former ballerina with a mysterious past he falls for is now named Evie Lawrence, but otherwise details fall closely in line with Murakami’s best-seller."

It's good that they are going to stay in line with the original story. Japanese filmmakers tend to take things more to the extreme than American filmmakers though, so who knows how far Gray will take the story in his version.

Gary also adapted the script for the film and it's set to go into production this fall. He previously made a crime thriller called The Lookalike, which has yet to be released.

Sideshow Collectibles has revealed the second piece in their World War Hulk series. It's the King Hulk Premium Format Figure. This thing looks so awesome! I also went ahead and included their Gladiator Hulk figure as well, since it's part of the same series. Here's a description that was provided with the reveal.

Betrayed by those he once called allies and exiled to the savage alien world of Sakaar, the fearsome Hulk smashed, bled and conquered his way from slave to gladiator, and then to king. Crowned with a gleaming diadem, the mighty victor finally found peace in his kingdom, until a tragic turn of events brought Hulk's world crashing down once again and set him on a new path of destruction.

Fueled by rage, and stronger than ever before, the volatile King Hulk is out for blood, girded for war in his gladiator attire and spiked armored gauntlet. Wielding a massive broadsword and deadly battle axe, the unstoppable World Breaker returns to seek vengeance and tear the Earth to shreds. Towering almost 30" tall over the cracked and broken streets of New York City, he is the Green Scar, the Eye of Anger, the Hulk... and he has come home.

10 Fun Facts about STAND BY ME

$

I recently watched Rob Reiner's classic film Stand By Me for the thousandth time, and it was just as enjoyable as the first time I saw it. The movie is based on a short story by Stephen King called The Body, and it turned out to be such an incredible film that has become a timeless classic. I have yet to meet someone that hasn't liked it.

I've been having fun doing these little top 10 trivia posts, as I always seem to learn a few things I never knew before about the films that I love to watch. So here's a top 10 list of fun facts that you may or may not already know about Stand By Me.

  • Kiefer Sutherland claimed in an interview that in one of the locations of the film, a Renaissance Fair was being held and the cast and crew attended and bought some cookies. Unfortunately, the cookies turned out to be pot cookies and two hours later, the crew found Jerry O'Connell crying and high on the cookies somewhere in the park.
  • River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell got up to much mischief in the hotel they were staying in during filming. This included throwing all the pool side furniture into the pool, Wheaton fixing video games in the lobby so they could play them for free and Phoenix (spurred on by the other boys) unknowingly covering Kiefer Sutherland's car in mud; only discovering whose car it was when Sutherland confronted a scared and nervous Phoenix about it later.
  • When they were filming the scene where Gordie and Vern are about to be run over by the train, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell did not look scared enough; In frustration Rob Reiner yelled at them to the point where they started crying and that's when they were able to film the scene.
  • In an interview with Stephen King in the special features of the DVD, he reveals that the scene with the leeches actually did happen to him, when he was a child.
  • According to Wil Wheaton on the DVD documentary, the scene in which Verne (Jerry O'Connell) can't remember the "secret knock" to the clubhouse was thought of by Wheaton, Phoenix, and Feldman on the day it was shot as another way to make Verne look more pathetic.
  • As with most of Stephen King's stories, this one originally contained connections to other books he has written. Ace Merrill later re-appeared in the book Needful Things (1993), although he does not appear in the film. The dog Chopper is compared to Cujo (1983). Characters are familiar with Shawshank Prison, from The Shawshank Redemption (1994). Teddy Duchamp was actually first mentioned in King's first book, Carrie (1976), in which Carrie destroys a gas station he once worked at.
  • At the insistence of director Rob Reiner (an avid non-smoker who campaigned for anti-smoking laws in California), the cigarettes smoked by the boys were made from cabbage leaves.
  • While filming the scene in which Ace Merrill takes Gordie's brother's Yankees cap, Kiefer Sutherland's first instinct was to put it on, rather than hand it to Eyeball Chambers. Reiner told Sutherland not to put the hat on as a way of showing that Ace was stealing it just to be cruel to Gordie and not because the hat itself was at all important to Ace. Sutherland and Wheaton both confirm in the DVD's behind the scenes documentary that the reason that Gordie never gets the hat back from Ace is that Ace threw it away immediately after stealing it from Gordie.
  • The vomit used in the "Lardass" story was made from cottage cheese and blueberry mix.
  • The lead actors weren't allowed to see Ray Brower (Kent W. Luttrell) until they unveil him on camera; this method was used to unsettle the four boys and gain the best reaction possible.

Jason Momoa Hints at Aquaman Being an Anti-Hero

Jason Momoa continues to be bombarded with questions about his role as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He still has yet to confirm the news himself, but during a Q&A session at Evolution Expo he offered a little insight into what kind of comic book character he would like to play. He doesn't mention anything about Aquaman, but by the way he talks, it sounds like Aquaman could be an anti-hero in the film. Here's what he said when asked about Aquaman:

I think it would be really, really fun to play a superhero. You know? I’ve always talked about, like, what’s your favorite. I mean I love Lobo so… but ah… You know. It would be awesome. I don’t know how they do it but… Yea, absolutely I think it would…I just don’t really see myself as a superhero. Yeah, no I mean, they’re kind of written a little different. I don’t know. I just… you know. I’m not wearing a lot of the…I don’t see myself in tights a lot. And ah…I’m more of a, I don’t know, an anti-hero if you will. In life. So, not the smiling, parading to saving the world kind of guy. Yeah, the Hulk would have been fun!

I think it's easy to see Aquaman as an anti-hero, someone who sees himself as a defender of the oceans and enemy of surface dwellers. I also think Momoa would be awesome in the role. If anyone can help turn Aquaman into a badass, it's Momoa.

I used to be pretty damn good at this game, but I haven't played it in years. Some people started playing it and never stopped. Now there's a group of people out there trying to beat each other's speed run records. The world record is current held by a guy who goes by the name of Blubber. The time he beat the whole game in was 4:57.69, and you can watch him complete that feat in the video below. It's pretty amazing watching him race through this game so fast.

Two new photos have been released for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. They feature Jamie Chung as Miho and Rosario Dawson as Gail looking all kinds of badass. The women in this film are crazy, and I'd never want to run into any of them in a dark alley.

I'm glad Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller finally got around to making this sequel. The movie also stars Bruce Willis, Jessica AlbaMickey Rourke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, and Eva Green.

Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is scheduled to hit theaters on August 22nd.

Michael Bay and TRANSFORMERS Producer on Movie Critic Hate

$
0
0

I am pretty easy to please when it comes to movies. I tend to enjoy them for what they are. I usually know what I've getting myself into, and I have my expectations set. Sometimes they are high expectations, sometimes they're low. Not all movies can be good, though! Even if I go in with low expectations, there's a chance the movie could be worse than I thought it would be. That's exactly how I felt about Transformers: Age of Extinction. I enjoyed the first movie and I enjoyed the third one, but I didn't care for the second or fourth movies at all. Sure, they had some fun moments, but as a whole they were crap because of their incredibly messy story structures and terrible scripts.

I personally believe that the heart and soul of a movie starts with the script. If that sucks, then the movie will suck. It doesn't take rocket science to figure that out, more like common sense, which some of Hollywood is lacking these days. Apparently producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura doesn't agree. In a recent interview with Mike Ryan at Screen Crush, the producer discusses how he feels about film critics today, and apparently, he's not a big believer in story structure. Here's a couple parts from the interview:

Ryan: ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ is going to make a ton of money. Are these movies critic-proof? Do you care about reviews?

Lorenzo: Well, first of all, I think every filmmaker cares what critics think because, you know, you’re being judged. I think if someone says they don’t care, baloney. Does it affect the gross of the movie? Probably a little bit. But, I think the problem with critics and the big movies in general is they don’t understand the format. So, they’re judging it against the kind of movie experience that it is not trying to do, nor should it. … What I mean is it’s like they’re locked into like, “OK, let’s compare this to a Marty Scorsese movie or a two-hour drama.”

What's funny about that is that I think the critics understand the format better than he does. You can still make a kick-ass Transformers movie with a decent script! The interview goes on!

I don’t know about that. Critics liked the latest Captain America movie a lot.

But, my experience with the critics is that when they like a big movie, it’s because they’re afraid they’re going to so go against the tide that they act like they liked it. That’s my opinion. I think it’s baloney. I don’t think they understand the form of entertainment and I don’t think they appreciate the form of the entertainment. So, I think in that respect, the reason critics don’t hurt a lot of the big movies is because the audience is smart enough to go, “I don’t care what he’s talking about or she’s talking about. What I care about is did I have a great experience? Was I wowed? Did I laugh? Did I feel like I was transported to a different place?” And they’re judging it on story elements and things that… I’m frustrated that they don’t get moviemaking today. They don’t get it. I don’t understand why they can’t evaluate movies on different experiences. My experience when I was first in the business, I really valued critics. Because even when they didn’t like something, they talked about what was good in it. So now it’s like these feasts of criticism — they just love killing the whole thing.

Basically what the producer is saying there is that the audience doesn't care that they are watching a shitty movie. I beg to differ, I think the audience does care! The fact of the matter is people appreciate good movies! I can't believe he actually believes this stuff! This is why my faith in Hollywood is waning. Because the people who are producing these movies don't care about the story or script quality.

In a separate interview with Michael Bay with MTV the director was asked about what he thinks about movie critics and this was his reply:

“They love to hate, and I don’t care; let them hate. They’re still going to see the movie! I think it’s good to get a little tension. Very good. … I used to get bothered by it, but I think it’s good to get the dialogue going. It makes me think, and it keeps me on my toes, so it’s good.”

I don't love to hate! I want a fun moviegoing expereince watching a film that I will enjoy! I want to write awesome positive reviews, but how can I do that if the movie sucks ass? Plus, I don't think that Bay does think about it! I don't think it does keep him on his toes, because he's still making mediocre to terrible Transformers movies! If he was listening to the criticism you'd think he'd actually make an effort to develop an amazing story and script.

Hollywood is blind, and it can be pretty funny.

Growing Up Geek - The Hounds of Hell

For some reason, people think I hate dogs. But that's not true... dogs hate me. I have a long history of dogs that have shown their dislike for me. I don't know why they don't like me, but ever since I was a little kid they have been out to get me.

One of my earliest memories of a dog is when I was in the second grade. The school I went to was right around the corner from our apartment. Back in those days it was ok for kids like me to walk to school on their own. As I was walking to school one morning, I was passing by an alley way. As I looked over, I saw a big ass black dog walking toward me. I stopped and looked at it, and it stopped and looked at me. All of a sudden this fear engulfed me, and the dog must have smelled that fear because the next thing I knew it started barking at me and I ran like a bat out of hell, and then it started to chase me down the street!

The only thing I could think of was to make it to school and try to get into class. There was a long staircase on the side of the school that ran up to a door that led to the playground. I ran up the stairs with the dog literally nipping at my heels. As I ran through the door I immediately saw a metal slide and ran right toward it and up the ladder. I was finally safe from that damn evil dog. It barked at me for a bit before a teacher came out and chased it away.

The animal seemed like a combination of Chopper from Stand By Me, the Beast from The Sandlot, and Stephen King's Cujo. When I think back at that dog now I always seem to imagine it with red glowing eyes. The first time I saw the movie Attack The Block, those deep black aliens in the film instantly reminded me of that dog. Dogs became a nightmare for me for a long time. I bet those dogs weren't even that big or scary, but as a kid they seemed like giant monsters.

That wasn't the only time a dog chased me on my way to school either! There was a big white shaggy dog that came after me one day, and I ended up hiding in a candy store near the school where I would buy my delicious treats and Garbage Pail Kids cards. I would usually hide in there if I saw a dog on on the street, an wait there until it went away.  I bought a lot of Garbage Pail Kids cards at that place. I don't know why, but I never really talked to my parents about these dog experiences until I was older.

Since I was a kid I have always been barked at, jumped on while being barked at, and attacked. I even got bit in the ass by a dog when I was teenager right in front of all of my friends, including a girl I had a crash on. Now that I think about it, it was actually her dog!

I've also heard the following statement from several dog owners, "He (or she) never acts like this, they are usually very friendly." Yeah, well... Apparently there's just something about me that dogs don't like. I'm convinced that I'm cursed to walk the earth constantly being hunted by what I call the Hounds of Hell. If I ever die of anything other than a natural death, it's because I will be mauled to death by one of these hellish animals. Needless to say I still do kind of have a fear of dogs.
