Photos of the Practical Effects used in STAR WARS Prequel Trilogy

cool-photos-of-the-practical-effects-used-in-star-wars-prequel-trilogy

I seriously had no idea how many practical effects and miniature models were used in the development of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. A lot of people have made complaints over the years that there were not enough practical effects used in the making of the film, when in reality there were a ton, and there's a bunch of really cool pictures to prove it. Don't get me wrong. I'm still not a fan of the prequel trilogy, the practical effects don't make up for the crappy story, script and acting. Seeing these photos is still pretty awesome though. Thanks to /Film for the heads up on these. I hope you enjoy looking through the photos as much as I did.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released two new stills from their upcoming animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham. One features a new look at The Joker (Troy Baker) in the middle of a prison break, and the other image is obviously in reference to the Riddler (Matthew Gubler).

The movie is a prequel that takes place two years before the first video game, Arkham Asylum. It's being directed by Jay Oliva, and it also features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Eliza Dushku as Killer Frost, Hynden Walch as Harley Quinn, Neal McDonough as Deadshot, and CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller.

The movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray later this summer. In case you missed it, I also included the trailer.

Some more photos from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII have surfaced online, and these feature the construction of Han Solo's Millennium Falcon! I would love to post the actual photos on here for you, but we don't want to get in trouble with anybody. So if you would like to see the pictures of the Millennium Falcon being built you'll have to head on over to TMZ.

We already knew that this ship would be back in the film, and the photos definitely give us proof that it is. The site has released 20 photos from the UK sound stages, and not only do we see the Falcon, but we see an X-Wing being built as well!

It's awesome to know that we'll see Han, Chewie, and maybe the rest of the gang flying around in this badass bucket of bolts! These photos kind of gave me geek goosebumps: this is really happening, and I'm so excited! Click here to see the pics.

Detailed TITANFALL Atlas Mech and Pilot Action Figures

Threezero has released some photos of their upcoming Titanfall action figures. They feature the Atlas mech and pilot. These things are incredibly detailed and fully articulated. They are a must own for any hardcore fan of the game.

Titanfall is such an insanely awesome game, and I absolutely love the character and mech designs. I've also included the details for each of the figures.

Here are hands on photos of Titanfall: Atlas , which is currently on display at Thailand Toy Expo. Atlas is around 20.5" tall, why the pilot is 6" tall. Pilot will be fully painted, it's just the prototype.

Take a look at all the details, paint application and weathering on fully articulated Titanfalll: Atlas 6" (15.2 cm) tall pilot. Hard to believe that such a level of details is achieved on 6" tall figure, right?

This pilot will be coming together with 20.5" (52 cm) tall Titanfall: Atlas, which we showed earlier this year. Btw, we plan to open the pre-order soon, please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates!

Dwayne Johnson's HERCULES Has a New Trailer and Poster

Paramount Pictures has released a new full trailer and a poster for Brett Ratner's upcoming fantasy action film Hercules, which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. This is a much better trailer than the last one, and it features a ton of new footage. I'm still not completely sold on the film, but as you'll see for yourself, it does look like it will have some cool action sequences.

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend…

Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

Hercules opens on July 25th, and it also stars Joseph Fiennes, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie, and John Hurt.

The visual effects in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla were spectacular. The VFX team did an amazing job bringing these incredible visuals to life on the big screen. One of the VFX groups that worked on the film, MPC, released a video giving us a breakdown of some of the work that they did for the incredible monster epic. I always enjoy watching these kinds of videos and seeing the work that goes into creating these films.

Awkward Catwoman, Batman and Spider-Man Hot Toys Scene

Hot Toys held contest for a free toy giveaway. Fans submitted scenes they set up that included their Hot Toys collectible action figures, and the amusing photo you see above came in first place. It was set up by Bosco Chang, and this is what Hot Toys had to say about it:

The entry was a unique crossover of Batman, Catwoman, and Spider-Man presented in a very creative way. Gice also expressed that in addition to just collecting Hot Toys for display, the figures can also be put into use in creative and artistic work which we feel is another joy that Hot Toys’ collectibles can bring to fans!

The photo made me chuckle because of how ridiculous the situation is for Catwoman.

Charming Trailer for the Animated Film SONG OF THE SEA

A delightful trailer has been released for director Tomm Moore's new film Song of the Sea. This is the same director who brought us the fantastic animated film The Secret of Kells. His newest film looks absolutely wonderful.

Song of the Sea pulls from several aspects of Irish folklore, more specifically the Selkies, who are seals in the sea, but shed their skin to become human on land. The story focuses on siblings Ben and Saoirse (who is the last Seal-child) who embark on a great adventure. The movie stars the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, Lucy O’Connell, Liam Hourican, and Kevin Swierszsz.

Cartoon Saloon is likely to release the movie sometime in 2015, and I'll be looking forward to it. If you haven't seen The Secret of Kells yet, you should check it out. It's currently on Netflix.

I'm not a big fan of soccer, but director Guy Ritchie has a way of making it look exciting in a short film type of advertisement that he made for Nike called "Take it To The Next Level." It takes us right in the the action of being a soccer player, and it puts us in the shoes of a player by being shot in a POV perspective. It's completely done in Ritchie's uniquely awesome style. The film is extremely entertaining, and I think it's something you'll enjoy, even if you don't like soccer a.k.a. football. I know this is an older ad that was shot, but I just came across it. So in case you haven't seen it either… here ya go!

10 Most Badass Cars in Film

10-most-badass-movie-cars-social.jpg

Movies have introduced audiences to some of the coolest cars ever made. My love for cars comes from films and I’ve been able to go to a lot of car shows to see a lot of these iconic automobiles in person. I've come up with a top 10 list of what I think are the most badass movie vehicles that I would love to own.

Look over the the list and then let me know what your favorite movie cars are!

1985 DeLorean - Back the Future

"Yes, the way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?" - Doc Brown

When I first saw this movie as a kid, the DeLorean time machine was my dream car. The older I got the more ridiculous that idea became. I still wouldn't mind owning one though! In the original draft of the script, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis wanted a refrigerator to serve as the time machine! You can read more about that here.

1968 Mustang GT 390 - Bullitt

burninrubber4.jpg

This automobile was involved with one of the greatest chase scenes ever put onto film, and you can watch it below! This is such a beautiful car, and it has some major balls. The film's famous chase scene wasn't originally in the script. Once it was added though, it took three weeks to shoot in San Francisco, and they were denied permission to film on the Golden Gate Bridge.

1932 Ford Coupe - American Graffiti

American Graffiti was full of great classic vehicles, but it's this beautifully restored Deuce Coupe that just might be responsible for jump-starting the modern-day hot-rod movement. American Graffiti was a favorite movie on mine growing up. Ever since I saw it I wanted my own hot rod.

1973 XB GT Ford Falcon - Mad Max

The car is also referred to as a V8 Interceptor and Puruit Special. Max uses the crazy looking automobile to exact his revenge on an outlaw motorcycle gang who killed his wife and child. It definitely had the look to strike fear in the hearts of men.

The Batmobile - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

If I have to pick one Batmobile I'm going with the one designed for Batman: The Animated Series. It's my favorite Batmobile design ever. Lucky for me, they made a movie so I get to include it on my list! If you want to see what it would look like in real life click here.

The Mach 5 - Speed Racer

How could I not include this sporty fictional roadster on the list?! It looks like it would be an absurdly fun car to drive. Even if you didn't like the movie, you can't tell me that this vehicle wasn't freakin' rad. Everytime I watch this movie I can't help but have a big smile on my face. It just never fails at making me feel like a 10 year old kid again.

1976 AMC Pacer a.k.a. The Mirthmobile - Wayne's World

If you don't think the AMC Pacer used as the Mirthmobile in Wayne's World isn't badass, you're crazy because it is. It represents one of those cars a lot of us had while growing up where a lot of good time was spent with friends. The word itself, "mirth," means "gladness and gaiety, especially when expressed by laughter."

1964 Aston Martin DB5 - Goldfinger

Aston-Martin-DB5-James-Bond-Goldfinger.jpg

I can't put together a badass vehicle list and not include James Bond. So I went with the original Aston Martin DB5 driven by the great Sean Connery. It set the standard for the cars that James Bond would drive through the course of the franchise, and ever other spy films that followed. The car is so breathtakingly awesome that they decided to bring it back for the most recent Bond installment, Skyfall.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT Spyder - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

FerrisBueller_060Pyxurz.jpg

I wish I would have had a car like this to drive around in when I ditched school. Hell, I wish I had it right now to drive around just for the hell of it! The funny thing is though the Ferrari in the film wasn't real. It was too expensive to rent a real one, so they made three fake ones, each with a fiberglass body. It's still a great looking automobile though!

1958 Plymouth Fury - Christine

hvbENHO8XpckJmlP4Aovc3HEfAN.jpg

As fan of horror films, Stephen King, and classic cars, I had to add this one to the list. Christine was an evil possessed vehicle that killed people. There were between 13 and 16 Belvederes/Furys smashed and destroyed in the making of this movie out of the 25 used, and Plymouth enthusiasts were pissed.

There's a new Ninja Turtles book coming out called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History. It pays tribute to the many iterations of the franchise, and it also features concept art for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the film. The art included in the book gives us a better look at what Shredder and Master Splinter will look like. Shredder looks like he's going to be insane, and Splinter looks like… well, Splinter. He is the only design from the new film that I've actually really liked.

Here's a description of the book:

Discover the complete story of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the first time–from their humble beginnings in black-and-white comics created in a home studio in Dover, New Hampshire, to their multimillion-dollar breakout success, and their position as four of the best-loved characters of all time.

Featuring interviews with every key figure in the Turtles’ evolution, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History presents the tale straight from the mouths of those who were there, including co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, animation legend Fred Wolf, creature effects maestro Brian Henson, and even the man behind the “Ninja Rap,” Vanilla Ice.

In visually stunning detail, this book explores each iteration of the Turtles from the past to the present, including the hit animation show from Nickelodeon and the Michael Bay–produced live-action movie from Paramount starring Megan Fox. Bringing together the rarest art and artifacts from three decades of TMNT comics, TV shows, and films, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History leaves no shell unturned!

The movie is set to be released on August 8th!

CalArts recently gave Pixar and Disney chief creative officer John Lasseter an honorary degree, and he delivered the commencement speech at this year's graduation ceremony. His address is incredibly entertaining and worth watching. He's a very energetic person, and the crowd goes nuts for him. There's lots of cheering, laughing, and people just yelling things out in the crowd. Lasseter was like a rockstar at this thing. The speech he gave was also inspirational, and who couldn't use a little more inspiration in their lives? Enjoy the video!

Growing Up Geek: Earliest Movie Theater Memories

growing-up-geek-earliest-movie-theater-memories

Movies are such a huge part of my life. I love movies, I always have and I always will. I feel lucky to have had parents that enjoyed going to the cinema as well and would share that awesome experience with me. Flims are a part of who I am, they are more than just a hobby, they are a passion, and I want to be a part of them in every way that I can, which is one of the reasons why I started GeekTyrant.

It's hard to pinpoint what my first theater experience was. My mom says that she took me to see Raiders of the Lost Ark in the summer of 1981, which means I was three years old, but I don't remember that. I'm proud that Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of my first films, I just wish I could remember the freakin' experience! I don't know how I could forget it, as it's one of my favorite movies ever. The Fox and the Hound was another feature she told me she took me to that year, but that's another one I can't seem to remember.

My earliest movie theater memory though is going to see E.T. in 1982 with my mom, dad, and a bunch of other relatives. I remember we were late for the movie so when we walked in it was already dark and we had missed the trailers. This might be why I hate missing the trailers in a movie now — I know I see them online all the time, but I still want to see them in the cinema on the big screen. E.T. had already started and we walked in right as the opening credits ended. Of course, I didn't know at the time that Steven Spielberg would become one of my favorite directors ever. I remember sitting there staring at the big screen in awe while eating my popcorn and sipping my soda. This film was such a magical experience for me, and I remember wanting so badly for it to be real. When it ended I was left with the feeling of wanting more. I didn't want the story to end, and I didn't want to leave my seat. I was engulfed in the world of E.T. for almost two hours, and I just didn't want to let it go. I still get that feeling when I see a good movie. It's like a drug!

Another early motion picture experience that I remember is when my parents took me to the drive-in theater to see Return of the Jedi in 1983. That was an incredibly fun night because I got to stay up past my bedtime, and it was my first time at the drive-in movies. There aren't many more of those that exist anymore. This was my first Star Wars flick, and I absolutely loved it,  Ewoks and all! It wasn't until my parents got a VCR that I was able to watch the first two Star Wars movies, and I haven't stopped watching them since. I still watch Star Wars all the time. I am happy that I got to at least see one of the original Star Wars features on the big screen.

I'm really happy that I have these memories. I've had so many great experiences at the movies throughout my life, and it's awesome to know that those experiences will continue as long as I am around. Hopefully that will be a long time!

What are your some of your earliest movie memories?

The whimsical and fun animated short comes from a great team of directors that consist of Regis Aillet, Alexandre Bass, Clement Chaudat, Etienne Devillée, and Maxime Moreira. It's called "The Incredible Marrec," and the story focuses on an old mariner who tells a young boy the story of his most epic catch. I love a good tall tale, and that's exactly what this short gives us. It's a beautiful heartwarming story that anyone will enjoy, so I hope you like it!

BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT - Batmobile Battle Mode Trailer

I've got some good news and some bad news regarding the highly anticipated game Batman: Arkham Knight. The good news is that Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have released an awesome new trailer that centers on the Batmobile and its battle mode. It highlights a few of the Batmobile's functionalities. The bad news is you're going to have to wait a little longer before you can play it. The game has been delayed until 2015.

In an interview with Gamespot, the marketing manager for the studio Guy Perkins had this to say:

"We just want to make this the best experience that we can, and that takes time, We feel that we have an absolutely awesome game in the works, and we want to make it as great as it possibly can be. We just need more time to do that. If we didn't give the team more time to do it, then we would be releasing something that we weren't happy with. We want to make sure we're absolutely nailing it 100 percent."

As long as they eventually deliver another badass Batman game, I don't care how long it takes. Everything that they've released for the game looks amazing, and it's going to be a blast. Here's the synopsis:

In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City. Be The Batman.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

A couple of more pieces of concept art have surfaced for Spider-Man and Rhino in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. These are alternate designs for the characters that they obviously didn't use. The Spider-Man one is unique, and it's kind of cool, but I'm glad they went with the classic design. You just can't beat the classics. The art comes from Concept artist Steffen Reichstadt, who recently worked on Edge of Tomorrow.

Is Robert Pattinson Going To Be The Next Indiana Jones?

$

This vicious little rumor was started by the UK rag Daily Star recently and it has become an internet wildfire. They don’t reveal their source, but the site says that they have an inside man in Disney who says there is a short list of who will be taking over for Harrison Ford and that Robert Pattinson is at the top of the list.

I know that there is going to be a huge backlash that comes with this rumor, and that is expected because he does not fit the archetype for the role. However, if they are going to recast the role, who would you choose? In my opinion, as long as it is not Shia LaBeouf or Hayden Christensen the movie will have a shot.

Most will argue that he is unfit for the role since he starred in the Twilight saga. That is an invalid argument because Twilight was an awful series and I am sure that he did it just for the paycheck. Pattinson has shown he has some acting chops outside of the Twilight franchise. I felt he did a good job in movies like Remember Me and Water for Elephants. For his role in the upcoming film The Rover, Pattinson looks to have strayed far away from his role as Edward Cullen. Based on that, I won’t be too mad if they do end up casting him in the role. What sets Indiana Jones apart from the average action protagonist is that he is more brains than brawn, more 007 than Terminator. He's a thinking man’s hero. With that in mind, I feel that they could do a lot worse than Pattinson.

Is Commissioner Gordon in BATMAN v SUPERMAN?

$

0

According to Batman on Film, Commissioner Jim Gordon might make an appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. With Lois Lane, Perry White, Lex Luthor, Martha Kent, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman in the movie maybe Zack Snyder is trying to divide screen time between the auxiliaries of the title characters.

Batman and the Commissioner have a long history together, and if any of the story takes place in Gotham seeing him, however briefly, would make sense. We know Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's butler and former actor, medic, and spy, will be making appearance after Jeremy Irons was officially cast. A Dick Grayson appearance as Nightwing was rumored for a time, but more recent reports have not surfaced.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice will fight and hug it out May 6th, 2016 (USA).

Here's another fantastic piece of Ghostbusters art that was made in honor of the film's 30th anniversary. The illustration was created by Tom Whalen, and he calls it "Confectionary Kaiju." It is supposed to depict Ghostbusters as if it were a monster movie from the Far East.

It's a 12 x 36, 5-color screenprint, and only around 200 copies will be available online. Each is numbered and only $35.00. The print will become available at 2:30 pm / 11:30 am pacific time this Wednesday, June 4th at this link.
