Here's a fun piece of anime style art that reimagines the Justice League team as all girls. The illustration was created by DeviantArt artist Santi-Ikari. I've been watching an unhealthy amount of anime recently. Everyone just keeps suggesting shows to watch, and they're all good so I just can't stop watching! There's an endless supply of anime in the world, and a lot of it is really well done. Anyway, I just came across this and had to share it 'cause I thought it was cool.

Gaming Disassembled: Dragon Age Inquisition Could Use Some Exploding Chickens
Whatup?! After an unplanned hiatus, the show is back, and to the surprise of no one, we’re talking about Dragon Age Inquisition! We also discuss some E3 rumors and what our picks are for the show, and go over some eccentric character builds for Diablo 3, memories of the golden age of peripherals, and how many other characters that Superman vs. Batman can cram into a two hour movie. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
GODZILLA Review Pt. 2: Spoiler Story Details
This a companion piece to my spoiler-free review, so make sure to read that before reading these spoiler story details.
Spoilers... So many spoilers.
As much as I loved Godzilla a few elements held me back from thinking it was a perfect film. I gave it an 8/10 and it really is a good film, but the potential for an even greater film would have been possible with a few tweaks.
Juliette Binoche's Character Dies Too Early
Established in a couple of quick scenes Sandra Brody (Juliette Binoche) wife of Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) and mother of Ford Brody (CJ Adams and Aaron Taylor-Johnson) dies in the first 10min of the film. 15 years before present day, Joe and Sandra both work at a nuclear power plant in Japan that comes under attack from a MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism). Joe detects the approaching MUTO via a seismic pattern but only after it's too late to do anything like evacuate his family. Sandra — sent by Joe to check on sensors in the deeper parts of the power plant — dies of radiation poisoning. The dynamic between Binoche and Cranston is so surface level due to her short screen time that her death feels inconsequential when it really should be emotionally devastating.
Soldier Ford Brody Unnecessarily Returns Home
After an unspecified time abroad doing unspecified soldier things, Ford Brody returns home. A few hours later he gets a phone call that his father has been detained in a Japanese prison, and he (re)packs his bags and leaves for Japan. In my review I say that Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as Elle have zero sexual chemistry. The emotional dynamic of returning home after a long absence might have been a conscious choice to squash the chemistry, but it doesn't endear us to the characters. I'd have cut this whole sequence and instead really established Ford by showing his bomb tech skills in action. To give Olsen some screen time, Ford could be looking at a photo taken before he left, cue flash back to weepy wife and child. More people can connect with the feeling of leaving your family for a long time and how painful that can be.
Bryan Cranston's Character Dies Early
Joe Brody has spent the last 15 years obsessed with finding out the truth about what happened at the power plant. After his estranged son Ford bails him out of jail, he convinces him that the seismic pattern from 15 years ago was happening again. They return to the plant and encounter the MUTO. They escape, and a fatally wounded Joe is transported to an American command ship where Ford meets Admiral William Stenz (David Strathairn). Joe dies of his wounds, and Ford tells Dr. Ichiro Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) about the seismic patterns. After the screening I went to, I overheard one of my colleagues say that Cranston was underused and died too early. His character has nothing to add in the second and third acts of the film, and I think his death was earned, but I agree he's underused.
From here on out it’s just spoilerish things I found interesting:
Godzilla Dies At The End
Just kidding, he does not die, there needs to be sequels. But I'm expecting some people to only read the headers, skip to the bottom, and ignorantly fire off a comment, so let’s see if someone falls for it.
They Don't Show the First Fight
Ford is taken off ship and brought to an airport in Hawaii to take civilian transport. The airport comes under attack from the flying MUTO. Godzilla's entrance is teased and teased until we see the full Godzilla, he belts out his signature roar and... cut to young Sam Brody watching the news. We never really see the fight.
Godzilla and the MUTOs Eat Radiation
We awakened Godzilla in 1954, and all of our bomb testing over the years was us trying to kill Godzilla. Little did we know, that’s what the monsters feed on.
The First MUTO Is Not Godzilla
What attacked the power plant 15 years ago is not Godzilla but a flying MUTO and part of a pair that battle Godzilla at the end of the film.
The second MUTO Is in Cheyenne Mountain
Believed to have been hibernating or dormant, this MUTO's egg is transported to Cheyenne Mountain, which is the United States radioactive waste storage site in the movie. This second MUTO does not fly and is the female of the species. She is twice the size of the male and equal in size to Godzilla. The destruction of Las Vegas is caused by her traveling toward San Francisco.
The Main Character Is Ford Brody
He's always in the perfect place at the perfect time to have encounters with Godzilla and the MUTO's. He's a bomb tech whose skill set is conveniently established to be part of the military effort. What he does is mentioned a few times, but we never get to see him in his element, which seems odder the more I think about it.
The Eggs seen in the trailer are destroyed
Thankfully avoiding the mistakes of the 1998 film, these eggs are destroyed with a conveniently placed fuel truck used by Ford.
Godzilla Has Atomic Breath
Fans will be happy when they see Godzilla's spikes glow right before he uses his atmoic blue fire breath as a finishing move on each respective MUTO.
Godzilla Is a Hero
While his motivations are not fully clear, he does kill the MUTOs and leave mankind in peace.
Tribute Art for ALIEN Franchise Artist H.R. Giger
As a tribute to artist H.R. Giger, Javi Recio created the sketch above featuring the Giger drawing the Xenomorph alien that helped make him famous. I've included more art from different artists below. The artist passed away on Monday after suffering a fall in his museum. I've been a huge fan of his art since I was a teenager. I worked for an illustrator at the time, and he's the one that introduced me to the artist along with several others.

THE GOONIES Bicycle Playing Card Decks
Check out this insanely cool idea for a deck of Bicycle trading cards based on the classic 1985 film, The Goonies! The designs for it are pretty freakin' great too. The cards come from Albino Dragon, who put their potential product on Kickstarter for funding. They've already surpassed their $10,000 goal, so these suckers are actually going to be mass produced!
Below you'll find some images of the box art, the card specs, and a video of the creators introducing the idea.
The Deck:
- Custom illustrated deck by Nat Iwata
- Richly illustrated design
- Intricately designed playing card backs
- One of a kind court cards with characters based on The Goonies
- Custom Jokers
- Magic finish that allows cards to handle smoothly & last longer than cheaper playing card decks
I love this, and I'm definitely going to have to buy myself a deck! For more information head on over to their Kickstarter page!
THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 - Motion Poster, Photos, and Video
Lionsgate has started the long road of marketing for The Hunger Games: Mackingjay - Part 1. Today the studio released a motion poster, five photos, and a video interview with Julianne Moore talking about the film.
I assume we'll get our first trailer for the film in a couple months. There's a good chance that they might debut it at Comic-Con. I've been enjoying these movies, and I'm looking forward to seeing how these final two films turn out.
The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Jeffrey Wright, Jena Malone, Sam Claflin, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stef Dawson, Donald Sutherland, and Willow Shields. It's scheduled to be released in theaters on November 21st, 2014.
Make sure to head on over to TheHungerGamesExclusive.com to see more stuff because there's a lot we couldn't include in this post.
What if Disney Released FROZEN on VHS - Trailer and Photo
Back in the late '80s early '90s, Disney would release their animated movies in these big VHS clam cases. I still have a whole box full of these things that I haven't opened in years. The photo above is of a fan made photoshopped VHS showing us what Frozen would have looked like had Disney actually released it in the old-school movie viewing format. There's also a great fan-made trailer that gives us an idea of what a VHS trailer would have looked like for the animated adventure. Thanks to /Film for the tip!
Is Legendary Pictures Developing a NAMOR Film for 2016?
Yesterday, Universal Pictures revealed that they have scheduled Friday, November 4th, 2016, for a secret tentpole film that is being co-financed with Legendary Pictures. They didn't reveal what it was, but thanks to Latino-Review we have an idea of what it could be.
The only information offered in the initial report was that it's "new and not a sequel or remake, though it may be based on underlying intellectual property"
So what could the intellectual property be? Marvel movies are huge right now. Every studio that owns a Marvel property is cashing in on it. It turns out, Universal Pictures actually owns the rights to Namor, and it was confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige last year.
It's just one of those things where you connect the dots and see everything take shape, and you get a big picture of Namor that you get to color in afterwards. When Latino-Review reached out to the studio for confirmation they were met with a "no comment." But, they didn't deny it either!
I really don't know much about Namor. I never got into that comic because he wasn't an interesting character to me. I have no idea if I'd even be excited about the antihero. I guess I'd have to wait to see a trailer or something.
What I can tell you is that Namor made his debut in 1939, and he was created by writer-artist Bill Everett. He's also known as Sub-Mariner, the ruler of undersea Atlantis, and is the offspring of a sea captain and an Atlantean princess. Over the years he has been both a hero and a villain to the surface world.
The report then adds that Aquaman will be "an integral part" of the Justice League movie being developed at Warner Bros. Maybe Universal and Marvel want to get the jump the WB when it comes to underwater superheroes. Aquaman was basically a ripoff on Namor in the first place.
Then yesterday, a rumor hit that Zac Efron was being considered for a Marvel film. He currently has a hit movie at Universal with Neighbors and he's got the sculpted superhero body. I guess there's always a chance that he could be up for the role of Namor.
Who knows, at this point. This is all just speculation and rumor at the moment, but it also makes sense. Would you be excited about seeing Legendary Pictures make a Namor movie?
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - First Photo from Day 1 of Shooting!
Director J.J. Abrams has officially started shooting Star Wars: Episode VII, and the first photo from the set has been released. It features a clapboard being used for the production with the classic Star Wars logo on it, and it's dated May 16th, 2014. That means right now, as you are reading this, a new Star Wars movie is being filmed! How freakin' cool is that! This is really exciting for me. This is really happening! The photo popped up on Bad Robot's twitter account.
New Poster for the Sci-Fi Adventure EARTH TO ECHO
Relativity Media has released a new poster for their upcoming sci-fi adventure film Earth to Echo. This is a really fun looking, found footage style movie. One of the things I like about it most is the fact that it has a classic 1980s style "Amblin" movie vibe to it. In case you missed the trailer for it, check it out here.
After a construction project begins digging in their neighborhood, best friends Tuck, Munch and Alex inexplicably begin to receive strange, encoded messages on their cell phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they go to their parents and the authorities. When everyone around them refuses to take the messages seriously, the three embark on a secret adventure to crack the code and follow it to its source. But taking matters into their own hands gets the trio in way over their heads when they discover a mysterious being from another world who desperately needs their help. The epic, suspenseful and exciting journey that follows will change all of their lives forever.
The movie is set to be released on July 2nd.
22 JUMP STREET Featurette - "Janning"
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum make a great on screen duo. They were hilarious together in 21 Jump Street, and it looks like the sequel will at least be just as entertaining. Sony Pictures has released a featurette for 22 Jump Street that focuses on the friendship and chemistry that Hill and Tatum have together. It includes interviews with the cast and crew, and also features new footage from the film.
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on an athletic team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don't have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.
The movie is set to be released on June 13th.
Stunning Wolverine Fan Art by Mike Huddleston
Here's a fantastic piece of Wolverine fan art created by Mike Huddleston. I'm a huge fan of Wolverine, and I've enjoyed seeing Hugh Jackman play the character over the years, but I'm kind of looking forward to a fresh take on the character. I would specifically like to see Wolverine finally put on his classic costume in a film. There's a way to do it that isn't cheesy, and this art and the design we saw in Marvel's animated Hulk VS. film prove that. Maybe one day it will happen. In the meantime we can always enjoy the art.
Edgar Ramirez Replaces Gerard Butler in POINT BREAK
Alcon Entertainment will replace Gerard Butler with actor Edgar Ramirez in their upcoming Point Break remake. Butler recently left the project due to scheduling conflicts and creative differences. It's interesting that they got someone who has the same kind of look as Butler.
Ramirez will take on the role of Bodhi, who was played by Patrick Swayze in the original film. I'm not really that familiar with the actor, but he recently wrapped filming on the Roberto Duran biopic Hands of Stone, in which he plays the main character alongside Robert DeNiro. The actor also had a supporting role in Zero Dark Thirty and is most well-known for his portrayal of the titular hitman in Carlos the Jackal.
Ericson Core (Invincible) is directing the remake from a screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen). The films' producers, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, had this to say in a statement:
"We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today, and we are thrilled he will be creating a fresh new take on the iconic character of Bodhi."
I'm sure he's a fine actor, but I'm still not excited for a remake of this movie. Warner Bros. plans to release it on August 7th, 2015.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - Official Character Descriptions
Marvel has released a set of official descriptions for several of the main characters from their spectacular looking sci-fi space adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy. If curiosity gets the better of you, then by all means read ahead!

ROCKET (Bradley Cooper)
Rocket is a bounty hunter and mercenary whose mastery of weapons and battle tactics make him a formidable warrior, despite being a genetically altered, cybernetically enhanced, talking raccoon. The result of traumatic biological experimentation, Rocket is a genuine gun-toting badass and mechanical genius who has a huge chip on his shoulder.
RONAN (Lee Pace)
A Kree radical, Ronan continues to fight an ancient war between his people and the Xandarians. Ronan has struck a bargain with the Machiavellian Thanos — retrieve a mysterious artifact, and in exchange Xandar will finally be eradicated. YONDU (Michael Rooker)
Blue-skinned Yondu is an interstellar bandit who has a less-than-perfect paternal relationship with Peter Quill. As leader of the outlaws known as Ravagers, Yondu and his cohorts pillage their way through the galaxy, taking whatever they want for solely their own benefit.
NEBULA (Karen Gillan)
A blue-skinned deadly assassin, Nebula is a loyal lieutenant in Ronan and Thanos’ employ. Her advanced skill set and cybernetic enhancements make her a valuable asset but her resentment of Thanos’ adoptive daughter Gamora may prove to be her Achilles heel.

Korath, a powerful ally of the villainous Ronan, is a feared intergalactic hunter. Korath is a pursuer who is dedicated to the kill and focuses only on one thing—his target.
RHOMANN DEY (John C. Reilly)

NOVA PRIME (Glenn Close)
Nova Prime Irani Rael is in charge of Nova Corps operations throughout the galaxy. From her base of operations on Xandar, the principled and efficient Nova Prime leads her forces with confidence. She defines her mission above all to protect the citizens of Xandar and keep peace.
THE COLLECTOR (Benicio Del Toro)
Taneleer Tivan, aka The Collector, is the obsessive keeper of the largest collection of interstellar fauna, relics and species in the galaxy. An enigmatic figure, The Collector operates out of a place in space aptly named Knowhere. When he encounters Peter Quill and his band, The Collector attempts to strike a dubious bargain.
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
The movie is set to be released on August 1st! Thanks to Stitch Kingdom for the descriptions!
That Time THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Were on Oprah
I've never been ashamed to be a fan of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But this video their appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s makes me cringe. This is worse than the Star Wars Christmas Special. It makes absolutely no sense that this happened. It just gives Ninja Turtles haters all the more reason to not like them. The video was dug up by the website Uncanny Brett White, and it's a devastating cross-promotional trainwreck. It seemed like no one knew what they wanted from this thing, and so it was just filled with all kinds of weird awkwardness. There are even random women in the audience who are dressed up as Turtles!?
HALO 5 and Steven Spielberg's HALO Series Coming 2015
Microsoft has announced that they will released Halo 5: Guardians for the Xbox One in the fall of 2015. Around the same time they will also release the Halo TV series that is currently being developed by Steven Spielberg!
Showtime is the cable network that is currently talks with Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios on a partnership for the highly anticipated series. The episodes would air first on the premium cable network first, and then be available to watch on Xbox.
Bonnie Ross, G.M. of 343 Industries had this to say about the game on Xbox News:
"Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4. That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we've invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of [the next generation]."
Ross then goes on to talk about Spielberg's series saying that it “will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience." I'm very excited about this Halo series. I have faith in Spielberg, and that he'll bring us a show that fans of the video game franchise will be proud of. There's not much known about the project at this point, but we'll keep you updated on any new developments as they are made available.
Last month Xbox Entertainment Studios chief Nancy Tellem showed off some stuff from Halo as well as a lineup of six other original shows along with 11 others in development at its Digital Content.
Microsoft is also developing a Halo digital feature with Ridley Scott’s and his Scott Free Productions, which will be directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Battlestar Galactica, Heroes).
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Professor X Power Clip and Magneto's Stadium Levitation
FOX has released a couple of new clips from X-Men: Day of Future Past. The first features a scene in which Magneto uses his powers to levitate a baseball stadium. It's a short clip, but the footage is pretty insane-looking. This is one of those scenes that is going to look great on the big screen. The second video is one of those "power piece" clips, and it focuses on Professor X. Word on the street is this is the best X-Men movie made so far. I guess we'll find out for ourselves when we see it in theaters on May 23rd!
Tetsuo Goes Crazy in AKIRA Fan Art by Tsutomu Ohno
Ever since that trailer of The Akira Project fan-film was released, I've been coming across a ton of really cool artwork paying tribute to the classic anime film. This piece comes from artist Tsutimu Ohno, and it features Tetsuo going insanely ballistic. I recently rewatched this move, and it still blows me away how incredible the animation is. Everything about this film has held up over time, and it's just as awesome now as it was when I first saw it.
MALEFICENT Film Clip - "Fairy Godmother"
The latest clip from Disney's upcoming fantasy adventure film, Maleficent, features Aurora (Elle Fanning) and her first encounter with the villain Maleficent (Angelina Jolie). At this point Aurora thinks that she is her fairy godmother. That makes sense because I remember the time when I thought the Devil was my fairy godfather. That didn't turn out too well… for the Devil.
