OK, Quentin Tarantino needs to direct a Star Wars movie! Watch this trailer that re-imagines Star Wars in the style of the iconic director. It was cut together by Bobby Burns, and it would be incredibly fun to see Tarantino take on a Star Wars movie . If he did, I think Boba Fett would be the perfect character for him to focus on. What kind of Star Wars movie would you like to see Tarantino direct?
STAR WARS Reimagined as a Quentin Tarantino Film
FantasyCon to Epically Redefine Geek Conventions
The very first FantasyCon is coming to Salt Lake City UT. and it is looking to unleash a fury of awesomeness unlike anything you've ever experienced at any geek convention before. After having met and talked to the man who is bringing FantasyCon to life, Joshua Patel, I am here to tell you that it's going to be epic, and it looks like it will set a new standard for geek conventions.
I couldn't be more excited about being a part of this convention and attending it. They are planning some pretty incredible stuff, and it seems like anyone that attends is going to have the time of their lives.
I'm sure you're all wondering what is going to make FantasyCon better than any of the other conventions that we've been too, and we will be revealing certain extremely cool aspects about it up until the convention is launched on July 3rd and goes until the 5th. In the meantime, here's a description of it that gives you a great idea of what this is going to be like.
Combine Middle-earth with Hogwarts, mix in the world’s best Ren Faire, mind blowing art and a 53-foot dragon. Multiply that by 42 levels of awesomeness—welcome to FantasyCon. Join the adventure.
FantasyCon brings you the next biggest thing in fan conventions: a fully immersive, interactive experience that turns fantasy into reality and attendees into participants. More than a con, it’s a circus, a Las Vegas show, movie theater, battle arena, major theme park ride, a living dreamscape—designed and created by world-renowned fantasy artists, set designers, and professional costume and makeup artists. At FantasyCon, you’ll be surrounded by live performers, realistic battles, jugglers, magicians, professional cosplayers—and a towering, smoke-breathing dragon. Oh yeah, we also have quality dealer booths and exciting panel sessions like the other cons—if you have time to squeeze them into your action-packed weekend.
Now’s your chance to live in your fantasy world and become the hero, wizard, commander, princess, or sneaky villain you’ve always wanted to be.
Another one of the great things about FantasyCon is that it will be affordable. One of their goals is to provide the best show possible for your money. To do that they've eliminated over 200 exhibitor booths so that they could bring fans an arena, museum, archery range, children’s area, and more. They are actually sacrificing ways to make money so that they can bring you the coolest experience ever. As much as I enjoy other Comic-Con events, they are more focused on making as much money as they can instead of making the experience better for their attendees. FantasyCon is doing the exact opposite.
Another one of the things I like about FantasyCon is the fact that they are built around charity. They are always involving themselves with different local charity events. It seems like they are doing some kind of charity event every weekend. They are using their geekdom as a way to give back to the people and help good causes.
FantasyCon is an adventure that the whole family can enjoy. If you reside in the state of Utah then this is an event you will not want to miss. It looks and sounds like it's going to be so much cooler than Salt Lake City Comic Con. Even if you don't live in Utah, and you want to get away for a geek filled adventure weekend, you might want to consider coming to this event.
Like I said, we'll be posting a lot of cool stuff that will be featured at the convention, to show you the things you won't want to miss out on.
We want our attendees to bring their families and come visit with fantasy celebrities, dress up for cosplay and live-action roleplaying, wield swords, shoot bows, enjoy shows, explore masterworks of art, eat delicious foods, and be entertained while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Follow FantasyCon on Facebook and check out there website where you can also get tickets.
Hot Toys Falcon Action Figure from CAPTAIN AMERICA 2
Hot Toys has revealed their 1/6th scale Falcon collectible action figure for Captain America: The Winter Solider. I really enjoyed this character in the movie, and it will be great to see him eventually team back up with Cap to fight some villains. The toy company sure did an amazing job with this figure, I wouldn't expect anything less than amazing from them at this point though.
Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been topping box offices around the world since it was released in theaters! With his distinctive mechanical wings and great performance by Anthony Mackie, Falcon has left a strong impression among fans of the exciting movie! Today Hot Toys is thrilled to present the highly-anticipated 1/6th scale Falcon Collectible Figure.
The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Anthony Mackie as Falcon in the film and features a finely detailed costume, LED light up flight backpack, Falcon’s signature wings, weapons, and a dynamic figure stand perfect for flight poses. Fans don’t miss this opportunity to pre-order this high-flying ally of Captain America.
Ninjas Vs. Zombies in Trailer for NINJA APOCALYPSE
Here's a trailer for an awesome-looking martial arts fantasy film called Ninja Apocalypse. The movie was directed by Lloyd Lee Barnett, who has worked on the visual effects for films such as Avatar, Speed Racer, and Spider-Man. Judging from the trailer it looks like there will be some fun humor mixed in with some crazy cool action sequences involving martial arts mixed with magical powers. It looks like it will be a really entertaining, action-packed flick! The movie has a Mortal Kombat kind of feel to it, but it also has zombies! Not much is known about the plot of the film yet, but this trailer gives you a solid idea of what to expect.
The cast of the film includes Christian Oliver (The Three Musketeers), Ernie Reyes Jr. (The Rundown), Les Brandt, West Liang, Kaiwi Lyman, Tara Macken, Isaac C. Singleton Jr., Antoinette Kalaj, Mark Heidelberger, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat).
The movie is set to be released on August 5th on VOD. I'll be looking forward to checking it out!
JUPITER ASCENDING "Flying Boots" Clip - Proof of a Bad Movie
Well, I really wanted to like Jupiter Ascending. I'm a fan of the Wachowskis' work and at first it sounded like this movie could be really cool. I haven't been impressed with any of the trailers, and I'm sorry to say that this new clip that was released for the movie is one of the worst things I've seen from it. It features Channing Tatum's albino elf wolfman character trying to explain his ant-gravity boots to Mila Kunis' character. All I can say is that it looks like a scene that could be cut from the movie. The dialogue and acting are terrible. The movie comes out on July 18th, and I think it's going to bomb.
Badass Extended IMAX Trailer for EDGE OF TOMORROW
An extended IMAX trailer has been released for Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt's new sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow. This is an extremely badass trailer. If for some reason you aren't excited for this movie yet, then maybe this trailer with all it's awesome new footage will get you there. Edge of Tomorrow has slowly become one of my most anticipated movies of the year. It took some convincing at first, but I'm really pumped up now, and I can't wait to see it! The movie hits theaters on June 6th.
Darren Aronofsy's Epic Creation Clip from NOAH
I really enjoyed Darren Aronofsky's Noah. Regardless of what you believe in, it's a fantastic film that is worth seeing. One of my favorite scenes in the film is where Noah (Russell Crowe) tells the story of the creation of the world. It's like an ultra time lapse video of the creation, and it pretty much blew my mind. That scene is now available online for you to watch, and I suggest you do so. Aronofsky did such an amazing job bringing this story to life in such a stunning way, and this scene is both inspiring and beautiful.
THE SIMPSONS "Game of Life" Couch Gag
FOX has released their new opening couch gag for the upcoming Simpsons episode "Pay Pal." The opening pays awesome tribute to the classic board game, The Game of Life. I remember playing this game when I was a kid. There are lots of fun memories with that game. I haven't played it in years, though. In fact, I haven't really played any kind of board game in a very long time. If you're a fan of Life, though, then there's no doubt that you're going to get a kick out of this thing.
First Footage of THE FLASH Teased in ARROW Promo
The first footage of The CW's new superhero series The Flash was teased in latest promo for Arrow. It may not be much, but it was enough to make me to want to see more! It can be seen at the very end of the video below. It features the character running at super speed and gives us the logo. The show looks really cool for a first little glimpse. Oh yeah! Next week we'll be getting a full look at The Flash as well, so stay tuned for that!
The Flash comes from from co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, who, along with Geoff Johns, wrote the pilot episode. It was helmed by Arrow director David Nutter. Grant Gustin is set to play the hero of the story along with Candice Patton as Iris West; Jesse L. Martin as Iris's father, Detective West; Michelle Harrison as Barry's mother, Nora Allen; and even John Wesley Shipp, who was in the original The Flash TV series, in an unspecified role.
Review: GODZILLA — A Mix of Jaws, Jurassic Park, and 2012
Between the 30 plus films devolving from the grounded themes of the 1954 original, the campy cartoon series, and the failed 1998 American adaptation, the bar for a good Godzilla film has been lowered significantly. Because of the low expectations of the general public, early trailers for Gareth Edwards' reboot, due in theaters this Friday, were absolutely mind-blowing. Going into the movie, my expectations were high, and the technical aspects – the score, effects, and acting — delivered. The movie might have been perfect had it more consistently laid the groundwork for the payoffs in the third act.
If I had to compare Godzilla to three well-known films they would be Jaws, Jurassic Park, and 2012. The film's scope is huge, and the monster battles feel very real in comparison to the fanboy-drool-inducing action of Pacific Rim. Quick note to those hoping for a crossover: I don't see it happening. They really are very clearly in two different cinematic universes.
How Godzilla is like Jaws:
Director Gareth Edwards teases the audience again and again until a reveal that leaves the crowd cheering. The obscuring of the title character is both brilliantly executed and unexpected in today's "show everything" effects world. The score by Alexandre Desplat heightens the tension and does a good job of not telegraphing the surprises.
All the teasing and all the tension pay off in a satisfying final battle. The fight is animalistic. It isn't choreographed "monster-fu." It looks like something more akin to Animal Planet than Power Rangers.
How Godzilla is like Jurassic Park:
Present day audiences are not able to connect with fear of the atomic bomb or nuclear power the way audiences did with the original in 1954. Instead, screenwriter Max Borenstein taps into our fear of nature itself. Since the beginning of time we've built shelters to protect from the "monsters" who would destroy us. Our technology makes us believe we've insulated ourselves from the effects of nature. Godzilla is the monster of our primal fears made big enough to match our shelters.
How Godzilla is like 2012:
Do we go to a monster movie to see amazing acting? Not really. But emotionally connecting with the human characters would have elevated this from a good movie to a legendary movie. Despite an amazing cast, the weakest part of Godzilla is our connection to the characters. With so many people dying we should feel sad about the loss of life, but we are either not given enough time to bond or are not given emotionally compelling reasons why we should care.
Bryan Cranston gives the strongest performance of the group, but he's also given the most to work with. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have zero sexual chemistry and their husband-wife dynamic just falls flat. This shortcoming was driven home when I watched The Amazing Spider-Man 2 a few hours after screening Godzilla, and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's chemistry makes that movie.
Comic book movies or franchise films like the 2009 Star Trek are able to take shortcuts with character dynamics because there is a level of audience familiarity built in. With characters we know nothing about, like in Godzilla, the story elements need to hit at multiple levels very efficiently.
Final Thoughts:
The newest Godzilla by Legendary Pictures is the best Godzilla since 1954. It succeeds as a monster movie and has great visual effects. The score is brilliant and scenes like the halo jump are better because of it. The cast is great, but the character development is lacking. If you are a geek, it's a must-see movie from a promising young director.
For my full thoughts on Godzilla, check out my spoiler review coming tomorrow.

KILL BILL Fight Scene Reenacted by Kids
These little girls get crazy insane in a re-enactment of the ridiculously brutal Copperhead fight scene from Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 1. The video comes from YouTube user Bobby Burns, and the two kids do such a great job kicking each other's asses. I know that's weird to say, but it's true! Just wait until you watch the video for yourself. Don't worry, though, all of the weapon props were made out of cardboard. Hopefully no one involved got a cardboard paper cut. Those things suck.
Jesse Eisenberg Briefly Discusses Lex Luthor Role in BATMAN VS… SPIDER-MAN?
I found the fan poster art above from IGN's forum.
Jesse Eisenberg recently showed up as a guest on The Today Show to talk about his new film The Double. When the host started to talk to him about playing Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman, she referred to the film as Batman Vs. Spider-Man. That would be one hell of an interesting crossover film! No one acknowledges the mistake, but Eisenberg did go on to say...
"It's an interesting character. The movie is really good. But yeah, if I say anything beyond that, somebody will probably descend from the ceiling."
For those of you who are looking for a bunch of juicy details about his character click here. The article is full of wonderful potential spoilers!
I think Eisenberg is going to be incredible in the part, and I'm very excited to see how he makes this character his own. You can watch the interview below.

Channing Tatum Confirmed to Play Gambit in Some X-Men Film
Well, after months of rumors and speculation, it has been confirmed by X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner that Channing Tatum will indeed play Gambit in an upcoming X-Men film. Whether that will be a standalone film or X-Men: Apocalypse or some other X-Men film remains to be seen.
I think I might be the only one who likes this news. I really didn't care for Taylor Kitsch's portrayal of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. White House Down wasn't that good, but Tatum had such an easygoing and charming way of getting through chaos it convinced me he could play Gambit. He also seems to love Gambit as a character, and I'd rather have somebody who knows the source material play the character than somebody who knows nothing (I'm looking at you, Kate Mara).
I am excited for the upcoming adventures of our favorite mutant thief. Here's a video of the confirmation from Total Film:

Anime Scrolls Art for AKIRA, GHOST IN THE SHELL, and PRINCESS MONONOKE
As a way to pay tribute to some of his favorite anime films, artist Justin Van Genderen created this great series of "scroll art." The films represented here include Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Princess Mononoke, all of which are amazing. The style and design of these are very cool, and I'd like to see him make more of them.
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Magneto Power Clip
Over the last couple of weeks, FOX has released some character clips from X-Men: Days of Future Past. They highlight the powers of some of our favorite mutants, such as Mystique and Quicksilver. There's also a Wolverine clip that came out recently as well. Today's video focuses on Magneto, who is played by both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender. Like the other videos, it includes bits of new footage from the film. The movie hits theaters on May 23rd!
New Footage and Poster for TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION
"Stand together or face extinction."
Paramount Pictures has released a couple new TV spots, featurette and poster for Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction. I absolutely love the fact that Optimus Prime is riding on Grimlock while brandishing a giant sword like a medieval robot warrior in the poster above! The spots for the film have got some cool new footage to check out, and the featurette focuses on Imagine Dragon's musical contribution to the movie. I'm really hoping that this sequel is going to be ridiculously cool. It's set to be released in theaters on June 27th.
Zack Snyder Reveals Batsuit and Batmobile from BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN!
Holy freakin' shit! Director Zack Snyder has revealed Ben Affleck's Batsuit and the Batmobile he'll be driving around. This costume looks incredibly badass, and I can't wait to see more from his Batman Vs. Superman film! Snyder has truly given us something insanely awesome to look forward too. There's definitely a lot of influence from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns design. I'm seriously so excited right now I don't know what to say. I'm just in awe. Batman vs. Superman opens on May 6, 2016.
DOCTOR WHO and Laurel & Hardy Mashup Art by James Hance
Artist James Hance has created an incredible Doctor Who inspired mashup illustration. As you can see, it features Stan Laurel from the classic comedy duo Laurel & Hardy with Matt Smith's Doctor in the place of Hardy. Hance's work is always amazingly fun. He's always pumping out great stuff, and the guy obviously has a love for Doctor Who since so much of his art is inspired by it. This latest piece came along with the following caption:
"Well, here's another nice time and mess you've gotten us into!"
4 New Photos from GOTHAM
Four new images from FOX's amazing-looking series Gotham have been released for your viewing pleasure. They feature Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, David Mazouz as Young Bruce Wayne, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney. The series is set to premiere in the fall, when it will air Monday nights at 8pm. Finally, we'll have something awesome to look forward to on Monday nights in the fall!
Fantastic Sci-Fi Action Short - NOVR
I came across a really cool sci-fi action short for you to check out today called "NOVR." It was directed by Geoff O'Rourke and was created with a Macbook Pro, a Canon 5D, $9000 and a group of talented individuals. This team of creative people pulled off some extremely cool stuff you might be impressed by.
The story "follows two soldiers who have destiny thrown upon them when they discover what might be humanities only hope - in a war they have already lost. A NOVR"
The short has been shown at over fourteen film festivals around the world, and it's the first of three films designed to attract the investors necessary for a feature length film. I personally think that these guys have a shot. This offers some great entertainment! They are currently developing a second installment of the film called "NOVR: Blood and Steel."
