Robert Downey Jr. on Working With the Russo Bros. for CIVIL WAR and INFINITY WAR

0

Robert Downey Jr. has worked with three directors while he’s played Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s about to start working with a new pair. Anthony and Joe Russo are set to direct Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Marvel asked Joss Whedon to helm Infinity War, but as you know he turned it down. The Russo Bros. got the gig, and I’m sure they’ll do a great job.

While talking to Entertainment Weekly about Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr. was asked about Whedon leaving the Avengers franchise:

“I wasn’t surprised because there was so much onus on can [Avengers: Age of Ultron] be as good as Avengers Assemble? I just think it takes so much out of the men and women who are behind the major workload that occurs over a 24-month period, at best, to get one of these movies done. It’s backbreaking.”

When asked about what it has been like having his character be directed by different individuals over the years, he says:

“Its different every time. I’m also a very kind of loyal person so sometimes there’s a new face and I’m like ‘Wait a minute.’ But the interesting thing is I’ve worked with Jon twice, I’ve worked with Joss twice, and I worked with Shane Black once—and I’d happily do it with any of those three folks again. I really think the Russo Brothers are super sharp and I think they are worthy stewards of carrying it forward.”

It’s good to know that he trusts that the Russo Brothers have what it takes to continue to the Marvel story. I can’t wait to see how they handle Iron Man and all of the other characters that will be included in their upcoming films. Captain America: Civil War is set to be released on May 6th, 2016.

Josh Trank No Longer Directing STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY Film

0
0

A lot of questions were raised at Star Wars Celebration when director Josh Trank was a no show at a panel he was supposed to attend with Rogue One director Gareth Edwards. Trank said he had the flu, but it looks like there was more to the story.

Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed that Trank is no longer attached to the project Star Wars Anthology project he was developing. The studio officially announced the departure, and they released the following statement:

“It was a privilege to collaborate with Josh. We are grateful for the energy and love of Star Wars that he brought to the process, and we wish him all the best.”

I was actually looking forward to seeing what Trank would do with a Star Wars project, but it sounds like something that his heart just wasn't into. He said:

josh-trank-no-longer-directing-star-wars-anthology-film12
"After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path.
“I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. May the Force be with you all."

It sounds like there is more than meets the eye, and apparently there is some major drama that may have led to Trank's departure. According to inside sources, while he was shooting Fantastic Four his behavior was “erratic” and at times “very isolated.” He also apparently didn't give any clear direction, and the source told THR, "If you've got someone who can't answer questions or who isn't sure or is in hiding, that's not good."

Star Wars and Fantastic Four producer Simon Kinberg was also reportedly so unhappy with Trank's behavior and working style that he went to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of the team to let them know he was unhappy. Over time they became less confident in him being about to handle the film production. So it seems as if Trank may have really been fired.

If this is true, it sucks to be Trank. I'm not sure why anyone would want to work with a person like that. I'm not worried about the Star Wars franchise though, there are several other directors out there that are dying to take his place in the directors chair, so it's his loss.

Netflix and Ellen DeGeneres Team Up for GREEN EGGS AND HAM Series

netflix-and-ellen-degeneres-team-up-for-green-eggs-and-ham-series

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that they have teamed up with Ellen DeGeneres to develop 13-episodes based on the classic Dr. Seuss kids book Green Eggs and Ham. Like many of you, this is one of the first books I ever read when I was a kid, and it’s been a book that I've taught my own kids to read. It holds a special place in my heart, and I hope this series that’s been planned does it justice.

Netflix released a really creative and amusing press release with the news that you’re sure to enjoy.

We’d love to share some happy news
based on the rhymes of Dr. Seuss.
Green Eggs and Ham will become a show
and you’re among the first to know.
In this richly animated production,
a 13-episode introduction,
standoffish inventor (Guy, by name)
and Sam-I-Am of worldwide fame,
embark on a cross-country trip
that tests the limits of their friendship.
As they learn to try new things,
they find out what adventure brings.
Of course they also get to eat
that famous green and tasty treat!
Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content for Netflix
threw her quote into the mix:
“We think this will be a hit
Green Eggs and Ham is a perfect fit
for our growing slate of amazing stories
available exclusively in all Netflix territories.
You can stream it on a phone.
You can stream it on your own.
You can stream it on TV.
You can stream it globally.”

The series will be adapted for television by Jared Stern (The LEGO Movie Sequel), who will also serve as executive producer alongside DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz, and David Dobkin

You can watch the video news announcement from “Green Eggs and Ham” executive producer Ellen DeGeneres below:

Fun Trailer for Magician Rivalry Series JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL

fun-trailer-for-magician-rivalry-series-jonathan-strange-mr-norrell

Here’s the trailer to a fantastic-looking upcoming BBC series called Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. The story is set in an alternate version of 1800s England, and it revolves around two rival magicians. It seems like an awesome combination of Harry Potter and The Prestige. I’m a huge fan of magic, so I’m completely on board with a show like this. It looks like an incredibly fun series with great production value. It’s based on a novel by Susanna Clark, and here’s the synopsis:

Set at the beginning of the 19th-century, England no longer believes in practical magic. The reclusive Mr Norrell (Marsan) of Hurtfew Abbey stuns the city of York when he causes the statues of York Cathedral to speak and move. With a little persuasion and help from his man of business Childermass (Enzo Cilenti), he goes to London to help the government in the war against Napoleon. It is there Norrell summons a fairy (Warren) to bring Lady Pole (Englert) back from the dead, opening a whole can of worms…

The series will be available to watch in North America on BBC America in 2015.

Chris Columbus on Why He’s Remaking GREMLINS

The road to getting this Gremlins remake into development as been a rocky one. It has been in development for a few years, and at one point it didn’t look like it was going to happen. Then earlier this month Warner Bros. hired Goosebumps and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth to pen a new script for the film.

Chris Columbus was the guy who wrote the script for the original 1984 movie, and now he’s a producer are the upcoming remake, which he doesn’t want to admit is a remake. In an interview with /Film, he talked about why he is doing the project:

“I am involved. Initially I remember back in ’84-’85 when they approached me and said, do you wanna write the sequel and I said, this is before the obsession with franchises. So my feeling was no. We’ve told the story, that was that’s 1980’s thinking. And then suddenly all these years later, we were approached with an idea that really sounded like an interesting version. It’s not a remake of the movie at all. It’s a, it’s just a reinvention of it.”

Columbus wouldn't go into any details on the idea for the movie. I guess with a reinvention they can tell a completely different story, but still keep elements from the original movies that we enjoyed. It was also rumored that the movie could fall into a sequel category as well. When asked if the movie would include characters from the original movie he said:

“Maybe. I mean, one thing I learned from the Star Wars trailer is — and actually, we knew this all along and J.J.’s been doing it and really doing it effectively, beautifully is touching into that emotional connection we have with our past. And he did it with Star Trek, just by casting Leonard Nimoy in that role in that movie, and really having that connection. So when I saw the Star Wars trailer and saw Chewie and Han Solo at the end of the trailer, I was, it was emotional. And that’s what everybody wanted for the past 30 years. We had wanted that. So for me, I would wanna get involved if we could create some sort of emotional connection even though it’s a new story.”

It would be fun if we saw some original faces from the original movie. It sounds like that’s the direction they are headed. There’s a special place in my nostalgia-filled heart for Gremlins, and I hope that whatever they do turns out good.

Haunting New Poster for POLTERGEIST

haunting-new-poster-for-poltergeist

I’m really curious to see how Sam Raimi and Gil Kenan’s new Poltergeist film turns out. I never felt that Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper’s original film needed a remake, but I completely trust the talent who is developing it, and I think they are going to give fans something we will enjoy. Raimi and Kenan are both fans of the original movie like many of us, and it looks like they've handled the subject matter with care.

I like what I’ve seen in the footage that has been released so far, and I wonder if they will actually take audiences to the other side, where the spirits reside, in this vision of the story. It would be an intriguing element to add.

We have a new poster to share with you today that that has a David Cronenberg Videodrome kind of feel to it. The movie will be released on May 22nd!

Intense TV Spot for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Boxing Drama SOUTHPAW

intense-tv-spot-for-jake-gyllenhaals-boxing-drama-southpaw

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Southpaw looks absolutely spectacular, and today we have a TV spot for you to check out. Gyllenhaal is a great actor who has delivered a ton of great performances in his career. He was amazing in Nightcrawler, but it looks like he has upped the game for Southpaw. This might just end up featuring his best performance yet.

The movie was directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) from a script written by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy) and Richard Wenk (The Mechanic).

Southpaw tells the riveting story of Billy "The Great" Hope, reigning Junior Middleweight Boxing Champion of the World. Billy Hope seemingly has it all with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife (Rachel McAdams), an adorable daughter (Oona Laurence) and a lavish lifestyle. When tragedy strikes and his lifelong manager and friend (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis (Forest Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer to the city's toughest amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick's guidance and tenacity, Billy enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves.

The movie comes out on July 24th, and I’m sold.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to enter the world of sorcery, magic and the occult with the addition of Doctor Strange. He’s one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, and I’m so stoked that he will finally be coming to the big screen!

While we wait for that, here is an awesome series of art created by artist Daniel Kamarudin, which reimagines several characters from the Marvel universe in a dark fantasy alternate universe. The series is called Avengers: Dark Fantasy, and I think you’re really going to like what you see.

The character designs are pretty damn cool. To see some similar art click on the following link: THE AVENGERS as Medieval Fantasy Warriors.

Amazing Cosplay Portraits from the Cardiff Film and Comic Con 2015 in Wales

This collection of cosplay photography here is absolutely spectacular! These were taken by Finnish photographer Antti Karppinen at the Cardiff Film and Comic Con 2015 in Wales. According to Karppinen, “when people saw my images they went pretty crazy since they haven’t seen their creations and characters in these almost movie poster-like images.” She went on to offer some details on the photos she shot.

"Two days straight, over 2000 pictures, over 200 different characters. Just amazing. And all this just as my own project and giving back to these guys that truly deserve all the attention possible. Without them these events would be basically nothing.
"So this time in Cardiff Film & Comic Con it was all about them! Didn’t take any pictures of the celebrities. I just wanted to make as many people happy as possible. And I’m sure I did."

I’ve included a few of my favorites, but you can check out the full series over on her website. There’s just a lot of stunning work.

Jeff Daniels Cast in THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT

0
0
jeff-daniels-cast-in-the-divergent-series-allegiant

Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) is joining the cast of Lionsgate’s Divergent franchise. He is set to play a key role in The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1 and Part 2. I’ve been surprised to see such talented individuals sign up to star in such a mediocre film franchise.

Daniels joins the likes of Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Ashley Judd, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, and more. Oh yeah, of course there are the two lead actors, Shailene Woodley and Theo James, who I think happen to be the weakest links in the films.

The films are based on a YA book series by Veronica Roth, centering on a character named Tris, a young woman who does not fall into any of the factions governing her postapocalyptic society and ends up leading an uprising with her close friends.

According to THR, Daniels will play David, “the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The bureau is behind the creation of the societies in which Tris was living, and the reason behind their creation slowly is revealed to be nefarious.”

Robert Schwentke is set to direct Part I, and it will be released on March 18th, 2016

Trailer for FLESH AND BONE - Breaking Bad Producer Takes on Hardcore Ballet

Breaking Bad producer Moira Walley-Beckett has a great looking new series coming out called Flesh and Bone. It focuses on the insanely cutthroat world of ballet and is set at a prestigious ballet company.

The series will air on Starz, and the pilot episode was directed David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The Rover). A trailer for the series has been released, and you can check it out below the synopsis:

The drama follows a young dancer with a distinctly troubled past as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The dark, gritty, complex series unflinchingly explores New York City through the eyes of Claire, played by Sarah Hay (BLACK SWAN), an emotionally wounded but transcendent ballerina navigating the dysfunction and glamor of the ballet world. Claire’s self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when she is confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director, played by Ben Daniels (HOUSE OF CARDS) and an unwelcome visitor from her past.

Flesh And Bone premieres on Starz on November 6th.

Watch a Classic Card Trick from the Magician's POV

We have a fun video that's gives a different perspective of a classic magician’s card trick. The video offers us the point of view of the magician performing the trick. What’s so great about it is that it’s done so well, you can’t even see the magician's sleight-of-hand taking place. It’s like seeing the trick from this different angle makes it even more magical. The video comes from Magic Fergie, and I hope you enjoy it!

Lifetime Is Making an Unauthorized FULL HOUSE Movie

0
0

I don’t know if you all saw Lifetime’s The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story, but holy crap, it was terrible. The network has announced that they will be be developing another film about a popular 1990s sitcom, Full House. The movie will be called The Unauthorized Full House Story, and I imagine it’s going to be just as bad as the last movie.

The news comes from Deadline, who says the movie “will look at the rise of the cast and the pressure on them to balance the idyllic family life on the show with the more complicated reality of their own lives outside the series, but it will also look at the warm bond that grew up between the cast as the show became one of America’s most beloved family sitcoms.”

Ron McGee (Unauthorized Saved By The Bell) is writing the script. Earlier this month it was announced that Netflix will be developing a Full House reunion series. I’m sure the announcement of that is what sparked Lifetime to make their behind-the-scenes movie.

I’m looking forward to seeing the series, but when it comes to this movie… not so much.

IT FOLLOWS Star Maika Monroe Cast in INDEPENDENCE DAY 2

0

The cast of Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2 continues to grow with the addition of It Follows and The Guest star Maika Monroe. Emmerich himself announced the news on his Twitter feed. Monroe will be playing Patricia Whitmore, the grown daughter of Bill Pullman's President. The role was previous played by Mae Whitman (Parenthood), and I'm surprised they didn't invite her back to reprise her role the way they did with several of the other actors.

She joins a previously announced cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox, Travis Tope, Joey King, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner.

The sequel is set 20 years after the original film, and it’s great that we will get to see some familiar faces. Will Smith is going to miss out on some fun! The movie is set to hit theaters June 24th, 2016, and production will begin in May.

Monroe can also be seen in the upcoming sci-fi thriller called The 5th Wave, which is set for release on the big screen January 15th, 2016. She stars alongside Liev Schreiber, Ron Livingston, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff, and Chloe Grace Moretz

Arkham Knight Season Pass Details Released....Including the Debut of Batgirl

0
0

Late last night (via Batman Arkham's Facebook Account), Rocksteady and WB Games revealed a little more information on their Season Pass for Arkham Knight. The Season Pass has been getting a lot of flak since its announcement due to its extreme vagueness, and it seems Rocksteady and WB were feeling some of that negative feedback. If you're going to make a second first impression, you can't really go wrong with Batgirl.

She looks freaking fantastic. Lots of cues from Gail Simone's latest run on the character, and that is by no means a bad thing.

While they have to keep some of the cards close to their chest, they did reveal some quality information here. You can read the entire post below, but here are the highlights.

There will be a prequel story campaign called "Batgirl: A Matter of Family." You will take control of Barbara (I assume, though you never know) in an entirely new location. It would be cool to see Bludhaven or Burnside represented in Rocksteady's universe, but I could really care less about locale. I'm geeking out a bit, sure, but it's Batgirl.

Also alluded to is more storyline campaign expansions for Batman himself, but they also highlight Gotham City Stories, a series of storyline extensions for the Bat-family (Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, etc). It seems they took some of the feedback from Arkham City to heart, and instead of just challenge rooms we are actually getting substantial story content.

The most interesting/puzzling part of this comes in the form of custom racetracks. We already knew there were going to be various skins for the Batmobile, but I didn't realize the racing portion was going to be this extensive. It has some fun potential, and I can't wait to see what Rocksteady does with the iconic '60s Batman theme track, but I'll have to withhold judgement until I see it in action. At least it's interesting.

You can check out the full release below, but what do you think? I like the way they listened to the community on this and wish more companies would respond in this type of way to feedback. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Earlier this week, we announced the Season Pass for Batman: Arkham Knight. While the story of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Trilogy will come to a close on June 23rd, we are excited to continue telling stories and delivering more content to explore and play through in the 6 months following the game’s release. We’ll be building more narrative, more missions, more challenges and more characters and vehicles that we want players to experience, even though they didn’t fit into the storyline of Batman: Arkham Knight.

We’ve heard from our community that you want more information on what we’ll be delivering in the Season Pass. While we aren’t ready to unveil every aspect of the content we’ll be developing, we would like to share more detail now to give you a better sense of the scope of the Season Pass.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family
An all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location where you play as Batgirl for the very first time in the Arkham series - check out the first render of Batgirl.

The Season of Infamy
Play as Batman in all new story missions featuring legendary super-villains invading Gotham City, with new story arcs, missions and gameplay features.

Gotham City Stories
Play as Batman’s key allies in narrative missions extending their storylines, from both before and after the events in Batman: Arkham Knight.

Legendary Batmobiles with Themed Tracks
Drive the most iconic Batmobiles from Batman’s 75-year history, on custom-built race tracks, each themed to that Batmobile’s specific era. Every Batmobile will be drivable across every race track.

Crimefighter Challenge Maps
Engage in a series of new challenge maps utilizing the unique play styles of Batman and his allies.

Character Skins
A variety of skins from across the eras for Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman.

As we fully ramp up development on the Season Pass, we will be sharing even more details on each monthly content drop. We hope you enjoy playing Batman: Arkham Knight as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

Trailer for the Psychological Thriller EVERY SECRET THING

trailer-for-the-psychological-thriller-every-secret-thing

A trailer has been released for an interesting-looking psychological thriller called Every Secret Thing. It comes from the producer of Foxcatcher, and it stars Elizabeth Banks and Dakota Fanning. The film is described as a story about the chilling consequences of the secrets we keep. Here’s the synopsis:

Detective Nancy Porter (Banks) is still haunted by her failure to save the life of a missing child from the hands of two young girls. Eight years later, another child goes missing in the same town just days after Ronnie and Alice (Fanning and newcomer Danielle Macdonald), the two girls convicted of the former crime, were released from juvenile detention. Porter and her partner (Nate Parker) must race against the clock to prevent history from repeating itself. But as they begin to investigate the girls and their families, especially Alice's protective mother (Diane Lane), they unearth a web of secrets and deceptions that calls everything into question.

The movie will be released on May 15th.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Wonder Woman Concept Art Shows Off Her Cape

Some additional concept art has been released for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice thanks to El Mayimbe. This latest piece features Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, and it's the first time that we've seen her character sporting a cape.

This isn't the first time Wonder Woman has worn a cape, but I don't think it has ever really been her most popular accessory. I also never thought this character needed a cape. Now, this is just a piece of concept art, so there's a chance that the cape didn't make it into the final design of the costume for the film. Are you for the inclusion of the cape or against it?

Official SUICIDE SQUAD Cast Photo Assembles Task Force X

official-suicide-squad-cast-photo-assembles-task-force-x

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has released the first official photo of the Task Force X team all decked out in their costumes and ready to kick some ass.

The characters assembled in the photo are Adam Beach as Slipknot; Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang; Cara Delevingne as Enchantress; Karen Fukuhara as Katana; Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn; Will Smith as Deadshot; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc; and Jay Hernandez as El DIablo.

Everyone seems to look great in their roles. I'd love to see more detailed shots of all of them, especially Robbie's Harley Quinn. Apparently she will have several different looks throughout the film, so this is just one of them.

The actors who are not included in the image are Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim ParrackCommon, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto’s Joker.

I'm excited to see all of these characters in action, and knowing the type of films that Ayer makes, I think this one is going to be incredibly exciting. Suicide Squad will be released on August 5th, 2016.
