STARSHIP TROOPERS Could Resurface as a TV Series

starship-troopers-could-resurface-as-a-tv-series

Starship Troopers might be making a comeback, and if it does it could be as a feature film or a TV series. I'd much rather see a new Starship Troopers series over a movie. The news comes from an interview at Hitfix with producer Neal Moritz, who teased his plans for the sci-fi franchise by saying:

“We’re developing it. We’ve actually been talking about either doing it as a feature or doing it as a television show. So, we’ll see.”

For those who don't know, the story is set the future, and it centers on humanity's fight for survival against a race of giant man-eating alien bugs. Moritz has been working on this project for years, and it's good to know that he hasn't given up on it. Starship Troopers would make for an amazing series if done right. I wasn't a big fan of the original film, but the Roughnecks: Starship Troopers animated series was freakin' radical. That's a show that was ahead of its time.

There's no solid confirmation that anything is happening yet, but he definitely used the opportunity to generate some interest in the project. Would you rather see a new film or a series for Starship Troopers?

The countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues, and we're now less than eight months from seeing J.J. Abrams' first (but maybe not final?) entry into the new trilogy. Fans are more excited than ever, and you'll likely see even more cool Star Wars-related stuff come out this year in anticipation of the new release. Here's a new infographic from HalloweenCostumes.com that traces the costume evolution of a few of the key members of the Rebel Alliance: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. It provides some cool context for a few of the franchise's most iconic costumes, and there was actually something in here that I didn't know before (I had never previously heard of "greeblies"). Take a look and let us know if you learned anything.

Twentieth Century Fox has released a new series of posters for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four. There are a couple posters featuring the heroic characters gathered together along with four character banners for each one.

The characters here include Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch, Kate Mara as Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as the Thing. I've also included some information on each of them in case you missed it the first time:

REED RICHARDS IS A SCIENTIFIC PRODIGY WHO HAS BEEN QUIETLY EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE’S DEEPEST MYSTERIES IN HIS GARAGE, AFTER SCHOOL. AFTER BEING TRANSFORMED BY ONE OF HIS EXPERIMENTS, HE CAN WARP THE SPACE AROUND HIM, AND APPEAR TO STRETCH HIS BODY INTO IMPOSSIBLE FORMS AND TO INCREDIBLE LENGTHS.

SUE IS BRILLIANT AND BEAUTIFUL, INDEPENDENT AND SARCASTIC. THE POWER TO BECOME INVISIBLE AND TO GENERATE HER OWN FORCE-FIELDS CAN MAKE HER HARDER TO REACH THAN EVER—BUT THAT WON’T STOP SOME OF HER TEAMMATES, ESPECIALLY REED, FROM TRYING.

A TROUBLEMAKER AND A THRILL-SEEKER, JOHNNY IS THE ROCK STAR OF THE TEAM. HIS POWERS ALLOW HIM TO SHOOT FIREBALLS, FLY AT BREAKNECK SPEEDS, AND REALLY LIGHT IT UP.

A RARE BREED BRAWN AND HEART, BEN IS WARM, EVEN SENSITIVE, DESPITE HIS ROUGH-AND-TUMBLE UPBRINGING. HE IS ROCK-SOLID—IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. A LOYAL AND PROTECTIVE FRIEND, HIS STONE BODY GIVES HIM EPIC STRENGTH AND MAKES HIM VIRTUALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE.

Fantastic Four was written by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and it's set to hit the big screen August 7th. Let's hope that the movie surprises us with greatness.

10 Non-Marvel or DC Comics From The 1990s That Need Film Adaptations

$

Right now Marvel and DC have cornered the market of comic book superhero movies in Hollywood. Marvel is currently kicking ass, and DC seems to have a plan in place that they are finally executing with the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. But there are still a ton of great comic book characters out there that are not a part of Marvel or DC that would make awesome movies, and I’ve put together a list of other comics that I was a huge fan of in the '90s.

I spent a lot of my time as a teenager in the early '90s at my local comic book shop, Legacy, in Glendale, CA. It was there that I was introduced to a ton of comic books that I got hooked on in that era. Image Comics was exploding at the time, and that’s what I was reading a lot of along with several other comics that weren't a part of the Marvel and DC universes.

Here are 10 comic books that I would love to see eventually get film adaptations:

WILDC.A.T.S - Wildstorm/Image Comics

WildC.A.T.s is about a team of superheroes created by comic book artist Jim Lee and writer Brandon Choi in 1992. The team consisted of the characters Spartan, Zealot, Voodoo, Grifter, Warblade, Void, and Lord Emp.

The comic book's premise revolved around the centuries-long war between aliens called Kherubim and Daemonites. Kherubims were a nearly immortal and human-looking alien race with exceptional powers and skills. They traveled to Earth where they breeded with humans, populating the planet with "Half-Breeds." Daemonites had a fearsome appearance, and also possessed various superhuman abilities including body possession and mental control over human beings.

The comic did spawn an animated TV series in 1994 that I had a blast watching during its short-lived 13-episode run. There was also a toyline at the same time, and I still have some of the action figures in their original packaging.

DC Comics now owns the rights to the characters, but it wouldn’t fit in with any of the films that Warner Bros. is currently developing. This would have to be a stand-alone film franchise.

Danger Girl - IDW Publishing

Why in the hell don’t we have a Danger Girl movie yet!? It seems like a no-brainer. This is a comic book that any teenage geek would love. I had poster art in my room, and even have the action figures that were made, still in the original packaging. There was also a video game adaptation for the original PlayStation, but unfortunately it sucked.

The comic series was created in 1997 by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell, and it centers on an anonymous group of female secret agents who are sent on adventurous missions that are in the same vein of James Bond and Indiana Jones. They are led by a former British Secret Service Agent named Deuce. The characters include Sydney Savage, Natalia Kassle, and Silicon Valerie.

I think a movie based on this comic would be epically popular. Three hot secret agents kicking ass could go so wrong, but could also be so right if the right talent was brought on board to develop it.

The Maxx - Image Comics

The Maxx was created by Sam Kieth in 1993, and his first appearance was in Primer #5, published by Comico Comics. I thought the storyline for this comic was incredibly cool, and the main character just had this insane look that would be cool to see brought to life on the big screen.

The series followed the adventures of the hero who was a part of both the real world and an alternate reality referred to as the Outback. In the real world the Maxx is a vagrant, a "homeless man living in a box," while in the Outback, he is the powerful protector of the Jungle Queen. The Jungle Queen exists in the real world as Julie Winters, a freelance social worker who often bails the Maxx out of jail. While the Maxx is aware of the Outback, Julie is not, though it is integral to both of their stories.

MTV had an animated series of The Maxx back in 1995, and it was pretty damn cool. I really liked the style of it. It translated really well to animation, and if they made a feature film, I think it would work best as a CG animated film.

PITT - Image Comics/Full Bleed Studios

Pitt is a human/alien hybrid that was created by an alien race known as the Creed. Well, he was actually created by artist Dale Keown, but you know what I'm saying. Pitt is a genetically engineered killing machine, and if you couldn't already tell, he's more alien than human. The character has red pupil-less eyes, gray skin, insanely sharp oversized teeth, and claws.

Pitt has crazy superior strength, and uses pain as a stimulant. He can leap 10 km in one bound. He also has razor sharp claws that can possibly tear through anything. The character is extremely durable, and is able to survive attacks that would kill or disable superhuman beings with relative ease. Pitt can heal near fatal wounds very quickly. He also has limited psychic powers, and uses his opponents' aggression to lock on to his enemies.

Pitt goes through life protecting the Earth and his half-brother Timmy from the Creed alien race. With the special effects that we have today, and seeing what ILM is doing with the Hulk, it would be so cool to see Pitt brought to life in the same way.

The Darkness - Top Cow Productions

This comic series was created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl. He made his first appearance in Witchblade #10 in 1996. The Darkness tells the story of a Mafia hitman named Jackie Estacado who became became the bearer of the Darkness on his 21st birthday. He is an elemental force that allows him to wield a power that gives him access to an otherworldly dimension and control over the demons who dwell there.

The character has a ton of abilities that includes superhuman strength, agility, speed, and invulnerability. He also has the power to fly, shape-shift, and teleport, as well as telepathy, accelerated healing, and martial arts.

Dimension Films was supposed to make a movie back in 2004, but it never happened. Then in 2009, Top Cow announced that a live-action film was in development, but that seems to have fallen apart as well. Someone just needs to get their act together and make it happen!

Youngblood - Image Comics

Youngblood is a superhero team that was created by writer and artist and Rob Liefeld, and they made their debut in 1992. The superteam is overseen by the United States government, and the members of the team include Shaft, a former FBI agent and archer whose bow uses magnets to propel its arrow instead of a string; Badrock, a teenager transformed into a living block of stone; Vogue, a Russian fashion model with purple and white skin; and Chapel, a government assassin.

Youngblood also had a cool action figure line, many of which I own. There was also supposed to be an animated series in 1995, but it never happened. You can see a clip that promoted the series on FOX below.

In 2009, Reliance Big Entertainment acquired the feature film rights to the comic book, and Brett Ratner was attached to direct. Thankfully that didn’t happen.

Astro City - Image Comics/Vertigo Comics

Astro City1.jpg

Astro City is one of those comics that had such awesome potential to be an incredible film. The comic was co-created by Kurt Busiek and artist Brent Anderson. The character designs and cover for the comic come from Alex Ross. It was first published in 2005, and a movie version of this needs to happen. It would be quite the undertaking since there is a large cast of characters living in such an interesting and vast world. It would be so amazing, though.

The comic was really interesting in that it explored how ordinary people, heroes, and villains lived in a world full of super-powered beings. Some of the heroes that reside in the universe included Samaritan, an extremely powerful hero and Superman analog; The Confessor, a mysterious vigilante detective; Crackerjack, an egocentric, reckless crime-fighter with amazing agility and a staff weapon; The Hanged Man, a ghostly figure who appears as a floating apparition with a burlap sack over his head and a noose around his neck; The Gentleman, a super-strong, immaculate, and unfailingly-polite hero active in Astro City who is always impeccably dressed in a tuxedo; Jack-in-the-Box, a clown-themed vigilante with no known powers but agility and an arsenal of clown and toy-inspired weaponry; and more.

In 2003 there was an attempt to make an Astro City movie at Working Title Films, who acquired the rights. The option they had eventually lapsed and the creator took it to other parties, but nothing has happened yet.

Magnus Robot Fighter - Valiant Comics

This comic was originally created by writer and artist Russ Manning in 1963 for Gold Key Comics, but it made a comeback to comics in 1991 thanks to Jim Shooter and Valiant Comics. It was later rebooted in 2010 by Dark Horse Comics. I was first introduced to the comic in the '90s, and freakin’ loved the characters, story, and style.

The story is set in the year 4000, in a world in which humanity has become dependent on robots. Magnus is trained from infancy by his robot mentor to protect humans against both rogue robots and humans who used normal robots for evil purposes. The guy is a skilled martial artist who can break steel with his bare hands. He’s a complete badass!

I think this could be an amazing film franchise. I’m surprised after all of the years that this has been around it hasn’t happened yet. It seems like a golden opportunity to do something incredible.

Harbinger - Valiant Comics

This 1992 comic book was created by writer Jim Shooter and artist David Latham. It is about a group of super-powered teenage outcasts known as Harbingers. The main character is Peter Stanchek, who is a psionically-charged harbinger that has the power to potentially reshape the course of human history.

I always thought that this series would make for a great film. Back in 2008 Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to it and hired Brett Ratner to direct. Luckily that all fell through. I would hate to see Ratner try and do something like this. It was recently announced that Sony Pictures picked up the rights with Valiant Entertainment's Dinesh Shamdasani and Eric Heisserer writing the film.

Hopefully the project actually makes it into production, and it doesn’t fade away like many of these other film productions have that are on this list.

Solar: Man of Atom - Valiant Comics

Solar is a superhero that was first created by writer Paul S. Newman and artist Matt Murphy in 1962 by Gold Key Comics. It reemerged in 1991 at Valiant Comics, and it was pretty spectacular. The comic landed on Wizard’s top ten list of best comics in the last 15 years.

The story centers around a character named Dr. Raymond Solar aka Phil Seleski, who is a scientist that specializes in nuclear physics. When trying to stop a nuclear fusion reactor from melting down by jumping in and banging on it with a hammer, he is turned into a being of pure energy. He has the power to draw upon his stored-up energy at will, and he can release it into any form he wants. He can also use it to defy gravity, manipulate matter, and even travel through time. His powers are limited by his mind's ability to think them up.

The comic isn't really well known, but it features some epic storytelling that used real science and complex ideas that would sure make for an amazing film. It follows the character as he tries to fix the events that led to his change and find a way he can fit in with the world with what he has become. In a nutshell, it's about him coming to terms with the fact that he now has the power of God.

So what do you think? Do you want to see any of these comics turned into movies?

First Teaser Trailer For FIFTY SHADES DARKER

Even though the film doesn't have a director attached yet, Universal has already committed to a February 10th, 2017 release date for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker. It's the second movie in a trilogy, and it continues the bondage and sex-filled adventures of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). I didn't see the first movie, but it was an undeniable smash success for the studio: BoxOfficeMojo says it made almost $570 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.

Even with some behind-the-scenes drama — feuds between author E.J. James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson, a controversial decision to have James' husband write the screenplay for the second film, etc. — the show must go on, so Universal has released the first teaser trailer for the movie. There's some question as to who actually shot this footage, but it honestly doesn't matter: Dornan could have set up a tripod and filmed himself doing this, and it would still get the same reaction out of fans.

Cosplay Boom has released a cool Star Wars cosplay video that they shot at Star Wars Celebration 2015. While I was there, I saw some of the most amazing Star Wars cosplay that I've ever seen, and this video captures the greatness of what we saw.

I just have to acknowledge that there's a ton of work, talent, and hours that go into creating these costumes featuring characters from a galaxy far, far away. Some of these costumes are just as good as what you would see in a movie.

Not only does the video show off the costumes, but it also includes brief interview with the people wearing them.

Lionsgate Delays POWER RANGERS Reboot, Sets AMERICAN ULTRA For Release This Summer

Those of you who were counting down the days until a new Power Rangers movie hit the big screen will unfortunately have to add almost six more months of waiting. According to a new release slate update from Lionsgate, their film reboot of the popular TV series was supposed to be released on July 22, 2016, but now it'll bow on January 13th, 2017. Project Almanac director Dean Israelite is in talks to direct, but nothing has been signed as of yet.

American Ultra, the new movie from Chronicle writer Max Landis, will arrive in theaters this summer on August 21st. That film stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart (Adventureland reunion!), and the synopsis is as follows:

A stoner and his girlfriend’s sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.

There are three more shifts that the studio released, though those films don't sound particularly interesting at this stage:

  • Robert De Niro and Zac Efron's Dirty Grandpa has been moved up from August 2016 to February 26, 2016.
  • The CIA sci-fi thriller Criminal has been pushed from this August to January 22, 2016.
  • Alex Proyas' Gods of Egypt will now open a few months later than planned, on April 8, 2016.

The studio also confirmed that Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will take over the roles once held by Miles Teller and Emma Watson in Whiplash director Damien Chazelle's upcoming musical La La Land. Whiplash was my favorite film of last year, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Chazelle does next, and I must admit that I was excited to see Teller and Watson share the screen together. But Gosling and Stone are a great on-screen duo, showing crackling chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love before working together again in the awful Gangster Squad. I'm psyched for this one, and it'll arrive on July 15th, 2016. Here's the synopsis:

In this modern take on the Hollywood musical from Damien Chazelle, the Academy Award-nominated writer and director of WHIPLASH, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love.  But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

FURIOUS 7's Paul Walker Tribute Recreated in GTA V

I had tears in my eyes during the tribute to Paul Walker at the end of Furious 7, and longtime fans of the franchise found it to be a very emotional moment and a great send-off for Walker's Brian O'Conner character. I think the film is the best of the series so far, and while I'm obviously excited to see how it moves forward in Furious 8, the franchise just won't be the same without Walker.

Before we leave Furious 7 in our collective rearview mirror, Uproxx points us to this video from YouTuber GTA Wise Guy that recreates the final scene of the movie. It's not perfect, but it's a very good approximation of the touching last moments for Walker's character, and the final shot with the cars splitting off and going their separate ways is almost exactly how it appears in the movie. If you're not sick of the Wiz Khalifa song already thanks to it being overplayed on the radio, give this a watch.

Michael Fassbender Gives Update On ASSASSIN'S CREED Film

Michael Fassbender has been attached to star in a film based on the video game series Assassin's Creed for years, and the film is finally getting underway later this year to hit its planned December 21st, 2016 release date. ComingSoon sat down with the actor during a press junket for his new western Slow West, and asked him a bit about the long-gestating adaptation:

“You say it’s a long time but what I’ve found — it’s all new to me but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time. It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.”

We all assumed he'd be playing Desmond Miles, the protagonist of the first game in the series, but when the interviewer mentioned that, Fassbender cut him off and had a grin on his face when he said:

“You don’t know that. Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule."

So if not Desmond Miles, who could he be playing? And which game will the film be using as inspiration? Fassbender offered a brief word on that topic as well:

“That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.”

I haven't played all the way through an Assassin's Creed game since the second one, so I'd love to hear some suggestions from the gamers out there about which specific games they'd like to see adapted and who the actor should play. Fassbender is insanely talented, and it'll be interesting to see if he and co-star Marion Cotillard will be able to make one of the first (if not the first) really great video game movie.

Dark Fairy Tale Animated Short with John Hurt — THE ALCHEMIST'S LETTER

Director Carlos Stevens has created a visually stunning, dark, moving fairy tale adventure short film for you to watch called The Alchemist’s Letter. The film is beautifully animated, and it has a steampunk style and feel to it that is spectacularly brought to life.

It features the voice talent of John Hurt (Alien, V For Vendetta) as he narrates the story about an estranged young man, who "receives his late alchemist father Nicolas’ inheritance, [and] is exposed to the ill-fated reality that his father had built a tumultuous gold making machine powered by his own memories. The film takes us on an enchanted journey through the vessels of the machine where we explore the contents of the alchemist’s most precious memories, all in an attempt to give his son one last life lesson and save his relationship with his daughter from following down the same fateful path."

The movie also includes an original score composed by Mikael Sandgren, who is the music editor of Memento and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The film also features the voice of Eloise Webb (The Iron Lady, Cinderella). I really loved this short, and I'm pretty sure that many of you will as well.

Chris Pratt, Steven Spielberg, and More Discuss JURASSIC WORLD in New Featurette

With the release of Jurassic World set for just over a month from now, the film's marketing campaign is about to kick into full swing. Today Yahoo brings us a new featurette that has interviews with stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, and Ty Simpkins about their memories of watching Steven Spielberg's original film, and The Beard himself makes an appearance to talk about this sequel along with producer Frank Marshall and director Colin Trevorrow. It's telling that they don't mention the other sequels at all, because much like what J.J. Abrams is doing with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this film is clearly trying to hearken back to the movie people love instead of the more forgettable (or downright bad) entries that followed.

Let us know what you think in the comments below. Jurassic World opens on June 12th.

Video Essay Explores The Character Building of Quentin Tarantino

There was a time in my life during which I thought Quentin Tarantino was an overrated filmmaker. I bought into the complaints about him ripping off plot points from other movies, and for a long time, I admittedly didn't understand how difficult it was for him to create dynamic characters that worked on their own terms. Death Proof really disappointed me and that was the moment I thought he went too far up his own ass, but seeing Inglourious Basterds completely blew me away and caused me to reexamine his filmography. I still don't like Death Proof (I think it's his worst movie by far), and though I always liked Pulp Fiction, it was Basterds that opened my eyes to the genius of what QT is able to do. Suffice it to say that I'm now fully on board the bandwagon.

This video essay from Must See Films (via The Playlist) is a great way to understand some of the complexity of how Tarantino creates characters, and it has some nice tidbits for any aspiring screenwriters out there.

Everything Wrong with The Hulk Films

Earlier this week we shared an Honest Trailer that focused on Ang Lee’s Hulk, now Cinema Sins has released a couple of “Everything Wrong” videos that destroys Hulk as well as Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk. Fans seemed to like Leterrier's version of the Hulk a lot better than Lee’s. I really liked Norton as Bruce Banner, and the movie was entertaining, but let’s face it, Mark Ruffalo is just the perfect fit for the character. He was awesome in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I hope that one day Marvel is able to make another solo Hulk film. If not, I’m sure they’ll continue to have some fun with him in these ensemble movies. In the meantime, enjoy these two videos that tear the previous Hulk films to shreds.

Producer Michael Bay has released a photo giving us our first look at Arrow star Stephen Amell as vigilante Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. The mask he's wearing seems to have all the elements of what we've seen in the comics, but it also has its own exaggerated style. The look definitely fits the style of these movies.

The fact that Amell is playing this character is the only reason I have any kind of interest in the film. I think he's a great choice for the role of Casey Jones. I just wish the casting could have been under better circumstances of a better Ninja Turtle film franchise.

Amell joins Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. Some of the newcomers to the franchise include Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman, Brian Tee as the new Shredder, and Laura Linney, who was just cast in an undisclosed role. Bebop and Rocksteady will appear as villains, but there's no word on who will be playing them.

The movie is being directed by Earth to Echo‘s David Green, and it's set for release on June 3, 2016. What do you think of the new look of Casey Jones?

It's so good to know that we won't have to deal with characters like Jar Jar Binks in J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens. I just don't think Abrams would subject us to that kind of torture. But, we have a fan-made trailer here that gives us a look at what the film could be like if that annoying Jar Jar character were included. Its called "Star Wars: The Bink Awakens," and it’s a fan's nightmare brought to life.

Update: Apparently the image of the Deadshot below is just some random guy near the set of the film wearing a homemade costume.

Some photos from the set of David Ayer's Suicide Squad have been finding their way online. Yesterday we got our first look at Will Smith in the film looking more like Shaft than Deadshot. Another photo has surfaced from the set that shows us what Deadshot's costume might look like in the film. There's no confirmation that this will be the look, but it does seems to have similarities to what we've seen in the comics. I do have to say though, the guy looks like he's ready to play a hardcore game of laser tag.

James Gunn Almost Developed a SILVER SURFER Movie

When Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn first came to Hollywood, one of the first gigs he was offered was the opportunity to write the script for a standalone Silver Surfer film. He revealed this bit of trivia about himself on Facebook, and said that he even wrote a story treatment that sounded awesome. Here's his explanation of how it all went down:

Little known fact: When I first moved to LA in 1999, one of the first people I met on a meeting was an exec at Fox. He told me they wanted to make a Silver Surfer movie, and I might be right for that, so I wrote an extensive treatment. It was a huge story, cosmic as hell, and featured the Silver Surfer turning on Galactus (but no Fantastic Four - this was before the first FF film). At the same time, I was approached by director Jay Roach and his producer Shauna Robertson about writing a live-action Spy Vs. Spy film. That film seemed more likely to get made, and I loved Jay and Shauna, so I took that gig instead. It was my first studio film job. Of course, in eventuality, neither movie ever got made. But people liked the Spy Vs. Spy script, so I got a lot of work because of it. That said, I sometimes wonder what it would have been like had I truly jumped into the cosmic Marvel pool 16 years ago. Instead, I shall satisfy myself reading the great work of Dan Slott and Mike Allred every month!

I would have loved to see Gunn develop this Silver Surfer movie, especially after seeing what he did with Guardians of the Galaxy. Who knows, maybe if he would have worked on it the movie would have actually been made. The comic book movies being made at that time though weren't very good, so in the long run it was probably the better decision to take on Spy Vs. Spy over Silver Surfer. I loved Spy Vs. Spy, and it's a shame that it never happened either.

Silver Surfer eventually made his feature film debut in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He was physically portrayed by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne. Unfortunately, the movie wasn't really that good. I'm sure Gunn would have done a much better job.
