Touring AVATAR Exhibition Will Let You Explore Pandora in 2016

James Cameron's Avatar came out nearly six years ago, became the highest-grossing film in history, and then vanished. It's essentially been a non-factor in the pop culture conversation in the years since, as superhero movies and Star Wars dominate everything. Sure, Cameron and Disney are planning an Avatar theme park at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom, and there's the matter of those three sequels that are coming out in a few years, but at least from where I stand, the level of anticipation surrounding those projects pales in comparison to some of Marvel's upcoming projects (or even Fantastic Four, come to think of it).

But in an effort to boost awareness and get people excited about the franchise again, 20th Century Fox has announced a Avatar-themed "state-of-the-art global touring exhibition" that will arrive in Fall 2016. Here are the key points in the press release:

The AVATAR exhibition will include immersive, interactive displays that highlight Pandora, the alien world created by James Cameron, putting it in the context of science here on Earth. The exhibition will treat Pandora as a real place that can be studied and visited. The 10,000 square foot experience will allow for a dynamic 45-minute guest engagement offering a wide range of exciting explorations and captivating environments highlighting bioluminescence, connectivity among Pandora’s living things as well as its incredible and diverse flora and fauna. A unique look at the complexity of indigenous peoples and cultures through the lens of the Na’vi, Pandora’s native inhabitants, will be a key component of the exhibition.  By showcasing the science and wonder of Pandora, the exhibition will allow guests to better understand the beauty – and fragility – of our own planet Earth.
Highlights of the 10,000-square-foot exhibition include:
  • An examination of the Alpha Centauri system, home to the fictional planet Polyphemus and its moon Pandora, that offers visitors a multimedia journey into the world’s discovery and the challenges of space travel to reach it from Earth.
  • A Bioluminescent Theater, where visitors experience a recreation of Pandora at night and learn about its beauty, danger and the connections among the many organisms that inhabit the moon.
  • An Amplified Mobility Platform suit for guests to step inside to experience the challenge of surviving on Pandora as a human.
  • Na’vi culture depicted through careful reproductions to provide an in-depth look at these humanoid inhabitants and how their clans have created unique ways of connecting with nature.
  • More than a dozen hands-on interactive components that will appeal to everyone from the most avid fan to newcomers to this compelling world.

Thanks to /Film for the heads up. Read the full press release below.

Global Experience Specialists, Inc. (GES) announced today a partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (Fox) to develop and tour an exhibition based on James Cameron’s AVATAR™.  The state-of-the-art global touring exhibition, which will kick off in the fall of 2016, is inspired by the amazing creatures and environments of the world of Pandora first introduced in the record-breaking film. Fox and GES are developing the interactive attraction in consultation with James Cameron and Jon Landau’s Lightstorm Entertainment.

“This unprecedented global exhibition will create a truly memorable experience for fans,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. “Bringing the world of Pandora to life and comparing it to the wonders of our own planet, the AVATAR exhibition will bring together immersive new storytelling and science in a tangible, engaging forum.”

“We have been longtime fans of James Cameron’s visionary work and this is a unique opportunity to showcase AVATAR to fans around the world,” said Eddie Newquist, chief creative officer and executive vice president of GES.  “We are thrilled to be able to provide visitors the opportunity to learn more about the wonders of Pandora through this exhibition.”

“The world of AVATAR, made possible by James Cameron’s vision and ingenious technological advancements, fits perfectly with GES’ philosophy of storytelling through art and science,” said Steve Moster, president of GES and president and CEO of Viad. “We couldn’t be more excited to present Cameron’s world of Pandora to film fans, school groups and families around the world.”

“As we expand the AVATAR story world, we look for compelling ways to connect with our current – and future – fans.  This exhibition is an ideal way to share new and exciting insights into life on Pandora that we hope will inspire guests during their visit and beyond,” added Kathy Franklin, president of franchise development for Lightstorm Entertainment.

The AVATAR exhibition will include immersive, interactive displays that highlight Pandora, the alien world created by James Cameron, putting it in the context of science here on Earth. GES, producer of blockbuster touring-themed attractions and world-class live events across the globe, will design, produce and tour the AVATAR exhibition to multiple global markets to be announced at a later date.

Released in 2009, James Cameron’s AVATAR is the highest-grossing film in motion picture history, with a box office gross of nearly $2.8 billion. Mesmerizing all ages across the globe with its otherworldly visuals and groundbreaking special effects, the film quickly became a worldwide phenomenon so popular it will be followed by three sequels, with the first sequel due for release in late 2017. AVATAR was named best drama at the Golden Globes and won Academy Awards for cinematography, visual effects and art direction.

What Would Happen If Batman Existed in the Pokemon Universe?

$

The first change that would probably happen if Batman existed in the Pokemon universe would be that he'd change his name to "Zubatman." The gang at Dorkly has created a new video that envisions a version of The Dark Knight trying to be his usual intimidating self to some citizens of the Pokemon realm, and it doesn't quite turn out how he wanted. This is yet another example of people poking fun at Batman's super serious persona; maybe if he'd lighten up a little bit, people wouldn't rag on him all the time. But based on the new trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it doesn't seem like Ben Affleck is going to be cracking a lot of jokes.

TERMINATOR GENISYS - 5 Japanese TV Spots with More Footage

Five new Japanese TV spots have surfaced online for Terminator Genisys, and they reveal even more cool new footage from the film. The footage that I've seen so far has raised my hopes for this movie. It looks so good, and I'm kind of afraid it won't deliver on the greatness that I've come to expect from it. I really hope it does though, because that's what the fans deserve.

The beginning of Terminator Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

The Alan Taylor-directed movie will be released on July 1st.

STAR WARS Fan Film SMUGGLER'S RUN — Set Between Episodes IV and V

I love that Star Wars has sparked the imagination of fans around the world. It's hard to imagine a world without Star Wars, and one of the things I enjoy most is how it inspired fans to go out and create their own art and films based on the universe that George Lucas created.

We have a very cool fan film for you to watch today that was written and directed by Oliver Thompson. It's called Smuggler's Run and it was filmed on location at the original Star Wars sets in Tunisia. It's an original story that is set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back

They used guerilla filmmaking techniques to make the film and did all of the post-production on a MacBook Pro. It was shot over the course of 14 months, and they filmed in six countries with a cast and crew from all over the world.

It's a pretty impressive feat, and this is the outcome.

Universal Delays WARCRAFT, PACIFIC RIM 2, and More

At CinemaCon, Universal rearranged some of the biggest movies on its upcoming release schedule and ended up delaying some highly-anticipated projects in the process. Duncan Jones' Warcraft, which wrapped filming about a year ago and was initially slated for a December 2015 release, had already been pushed to March of 2016 (presumably due to the assumed holiday dominance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens), but now his film will debut on June 10th, 2016. Jones seems to be in good spirits about the move, though, and it certainly shows promise that Universal thinks the film will be able to compete in a busy summer blockbuster season.

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim 2, originally set to drop on April 7th, 2017, has been kicked back to August 4th. The VFX-heavy movie will likely benefit from the added time, so we're still hoping for the best with that one as it's supposed to set up a third movie in that franchise.

The Universal Monster movies, set to kick off a new cinematic universe, have been bumped back also, with The Mummy reboot dropping back nine whole months from June 24th, 2016 to March 24th, 2017. There's also an untitled second Monster movie in the works that was set for a April 21th, 2017 debut but now will arrive on March 30th, 2018.

And finally, the studio announced that the Doug Liman/Tom Cruise drug thriller Mena will hit theaters on January 6th, 2017, and the Fifty Shades of Grey sequels — Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, respectively — arrive on February 10th, 2017, and February 9th, 2018. So update your calendars, movie fans: we have a crazy few years ahead of us.

Funny Comic Reveals The "Truth" Behind TERMINATOR GENISYS

I'm still not quite sold on Terminator Genisys. I'm a big fan of the Terminator franchise (I even like the third movie, which not a lot of people like), but with Alan Taylor at the helm and a script that seems like it's straight-up bonkers, I just don't know how it'll land. (We spoke at length about this on one of our recent podcast episodes.) You can check out some newly-released TV spots for the movie right here, and personally, I'm still holding out hope that it'll be good.

But it seems like a lot of people have made up their minds already, and decided that it's going to be a total trainwreck. This new comic from the people at Dorkly should strike a chord with that crowd, since it basically says that all future Terminator movies are a bad idea and Terminator Salvation was purposefully so bad that no one would ever make another sequel again.

Paul Rudd Discusses ANT-MAN and Teases His Future Role in the MCU

That last Ant-Man trailer that Marvel released was freakin' fantastic! I knew the movie would be good, but it still looks better than I thought it would be. One of the things I like about it most is the humor behind it.

In a recent interview with MTV, Paul Rudd talks about his excitement for Ant-Man, getting into shape for the part, and how the character fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also says that Ant-Man will be showing up in some upcoming Marvel films. It's a fun interview and definitely worth watching.

When talking about the comedic tone of the film, Rudd says:

“I think that there is, but at the same time, it’s not an out-and-out comedy. There’s a lot of stuff that’s funny, but there’s also a lot of action, and there are relationships that you’ll care about. My hope is people are surprised by it.
“It seems like a tough one to nail down. They released a teaser trailer, and people weren’t really sure what the tone was. They released [a second trailer] and there are a couple of jokes about, ’Should we change the name?’ We understand that people hear ’Ant-Man’ and wonder, ’What is that?’ I think it’s going to be fun to see the reaction.”

When comparing his physique to Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, he said:

“They’re big. They got bulk. I’m playing a guy who shrinks down to the size of an ant. [Bulk] makes no sense. I’m lean. I’m fairly sinewy. I look like Scott Glenn in ’Urban Cowboy.'”

When talking about how Ant-Man fits in with the MCU and the future of the character, he says:

“It’s a part of the Marvel Universe, but it stands on its own. I think it absolutely fits in, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Ant-Man in some other things. That being said, it’s a movie where if you have never seen any of the Marvel movies, you’re going to totally get it.”

As for where we could see Ant-Man pop up next, he teased:

“They’ve said a few things. I know some things. But I don’t know everything.”

He could show up in anything from Captain America: Civil War to Black Panther to Captain Marvel, but I'm confident that he'll definitely show up in Avengers: Infinity War. It's going to be fun to see how this character develops in the MCU. The movie will hit theaters on July 17th. To watch a clip from Ant-Man, click here. Check out the interview below:

The gang over at CinemaSins have released an new "Everything Wrong" video that points out all of the ridiculousness of Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever. I still can't believe that Warner Bros. opted to go with this crap, instead of letting Tim Burton continue on his Dark Knight journey. These Schumacher films just make me want to fart. I didn't even like the movie when I saw it as a kid. The video points out 167 well-deserved sins in this movie. Find out what they are in the video below.

Chris Pratt Runs For His Life in New JURASSIC WORLD Clip

Another clip from Jurassic World has found its way online, and in it Chris Pratt has a close encounter with the park's new genetically engineered super-dinosaur, the Indomitus Rex. So what do you do when you come face to face with a beast like this? You run like hell!

This is an extended version of a chase scene that we've seen in the trailers, and the poor guy who is with Pratt in the scene doesn't quite make it as Pratt slides through the closing gate and under a car with Indiana Jones-type skills.

The clip also features a few of the other cast members like Bryce Dallas Howard and Irrfan Khan in a panic as this is all going on. Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th!

During Good Morning America today Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Jeremy Renner showed up to talk about the highly anticipated film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. During the interview, a new clip was shown off that features Captain America in the heat of battle with Ultron and Black Widow is on the way to help him.

The video below should begin right at the moment that the scene from the film starts. Of course you can always listen to the full interview if you want. I also included an interview with Downey Jr. from The Late Show With David Letterman, in which he talks about Captain America: Civil War and the inclusion of Spider-Man.

15 Fun Facts About Ben Affleck's DAREDEVIL

10-fun-facts-about-ben-afflecks-daredevil

With the release of Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix, I thought I’d go back and watch the original 2003 film. Why would I subject myself to such torture? I just needed a fresh take on the movie after seeing what Marvel did with it in the new Netflix series. It was just as bad as I remembered. That movie could have been so much more, but you know what? I can’t blame Ben Affleck for its awfulness. The script, story, and direction was just terrible. After watching it, I thought I’d look into some of the film's trivia, and found out some interesting things that you probably don’t know. So here are 15 Fun Facts for Daredevil.

  • Affleck was virtually blind because he had to wear heavy-duty contact lenses which apparently blocked most of his vision.
  • Affleck has such a terrible experience playing Daredevil that he said he would never reprise the role because he felt, "by playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero. Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon." Of course Affleck is now set to play Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
  • Stan Lee didn’t like the film, because he felt it was "too tragic." I wonder what he thinks of the Netflix series!
  • Affleck met his wife Jennifer Garner on the set of this film.
  • In a fight scene between Daredevil and Elektra, Garner accidentally kicked Affleck so hard in the head that he briefly blacked out. It took four days to shoot this scene. Bask in the glorious awfulness of the scene below:
  • The film was originally envisioned as R-rated with nudity and hard violence. I’m not sure that would have made it any better.
  • Guy Pearce was offered the role of Matt Murdock, but turned it down because apparently comic book movies weren’t his thing. Pearce obviously changed his mind because he took on the role of Doctor Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3.
  • Affleck originally was in the running to play Bullseye, and Colin Ferrell was one of the actors who tested for Daredevil. Things obviously got switched up.
  • While Jon Favreau was working on the movie, be started discussions with Marvel over what would eventually become Iron Man, which is the film that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it.
  • Vin Diesel was considering taking on the role of Bullseye at one point, but ended up doing Pitch Black instead, which was a very smart choice. Pitch Black was a much better film.
  • When Daredevil's cane is being examined in the morgue, it's a digital creation as the real prop was delivered in the wrong color.
  • Eliza Dushku, Penélope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Natalie Portman, Lucy Liu, Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes, Mía Maestro, Rhona Mitra, Jolene Blalock, and Neve Campbell were all considered for the role of Elektra. If any of them would have gotten the role would Affleck had married one of them instead?
  • "20th Century-Fox first acquired the rights to Daredevil from Marvel in 1997. Chris Columbus was initially attached to direct. The following year Marvel was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, so Fox let the option slide. Disney then expressed an interest in the character, but that didn't pan out. Mark Steven Johnson realized his life's ambition in 1999 when Marvel assigned the rights to Sony and he was hired to write the screenplay. However, the following year, Sony put the project in turnaround. It was picked up by New Regency with Fox distributing, but Johnson found himself having to re-pitch himself for the writing/directing gig."
  • In the fight scene between Daredevil and Bullseye in the church, Daredevil is thrown crashing through the pipes of the church organ, and a number of bats fly out. I guess this was a precursor to the actor playing Batman.
  • Michael Clarke Duncan had to be put on lifts or boxes to make him tower over everyone else in the film, particularly in his scenes with Affleck, who is 6'4".

Below you'll find the original trailer and an alternate fight scene between Elektra and Bullseye:

DC Entertainment has confirmed that Frank Miller will be coming back to conclude his Dark Knight Returns trilogy with a new comic book called The Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Judging from the comic art that was released for the comic, it looks like Batman and Superman will be going at it again.

The story will follow the 1986 classic The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again, which didn't get a lot of praise from the fans. Miller will be joined by writer Brian Azzarello (Batman: Flashpoint, Wonder Woman) for the comic series which will span eight issues. It will be published this Fall on a twice monthly schedule.

Miller said this in a statement:

"Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best."

Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, Co-Publishers for DC Entertainment, released the following statement:

"We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman. The story he and Brian have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike."

Azzarello added:

"It's been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve."

There's no artist attached to the series yet (Miller and Klaus Janson illustrated TDKR, while Miller had solo duties on TDKSA), but I'm excited to see what Miller has envisioned for the conclusion of this epic storyline.

BARELY LETHAL Trailer: An Assassin Goes to High School

I like everyone involved with Barely Lethal, but sadly, I'm not really digging this trailer. The film is from Fanboys director Kyle Newman, and it stars True Grit actress Hailee Steinfeld, Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner, Jessica Alba, and Samuel L. Jackson. Steinfeld, who was phenomenal in True Grit but hasn't had a truly great role since 2010, plays a young special ops agent who fakes her own death and enrolls in a high school so she can live a normal life. But when a video of her goes viral, her old boss (Jackson) comes after her. Throw in a rival agent (Turner), a shared enemy (Alba), and the insanity of high school, and you have...well, I'm not quite sure what to make of this trailer, but I know that it doesn't quite look like it's for me. It appears to be like a lighter mashup of Hanna and Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass, but I'm also aware that this could just be a kind of crappy trailer that might not quite capture the spirit of the movie. What do you think?

Barely Lethal comes to DirecTV on April 30th and will be in theaters and available on VOD on May 29th.

NIGHTINGALE Trailer and Poster: David Oyelowo Spins Out of Control

HBO Films has released the first trailer for Nightingale, a new movie from the producers of 12 Years A Slave and Selma that stars David Oyelowo as the only character in a single location throughout the film. Oyelowo plays an Iraq War veteran who starts to go crazy, and though he's apparently the only character that appears on screen, it does seem as if he has a few phone calls to other characters in the film. And man, he must really hate that candlestick on his dinner table, huh?

All kidding aside, this looks like a fascinating experiment and Oyelowo (who was absolutely tremendous in Selma) definitely has the chops to hold our attention by himself, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Thankfully we don't have to wait too long: Nightingale premieres on HBO on Friday, May 29th.

Like a lot of superheroes, Spider-Man's costume has gone through a variety of changes over the years. This cool infographic from Printster (via /Film) highlights some of the best of them, ranging from a brown paper bag to the awesome noir mask from 2009's Spider-Man Noir. (I've never seen that one before, but I love film noir, and now I'm going to have to track that comic down.) What's your favorite Spider-Man mask? Do you prefer the traditional garb, or do you like it when they switch things up a little bit? I wonder how the new Spider-Man movies will treat the costume. Anyway, enjoy the infographic below:

For some reason, director David Ayer thought it'd be a good idea to wait until 6pm on a Friday night to share a full photo of Jared Leto in character as The Joker in the upcoming supervillain movie Suicide Squad. But at least the picture gives us a lot to chew on. Leto looks unhinged and absolutely bonkers, with tattoos all over the place (including one that says "Damaged" across his forehead. And there's a big teeth motif on display here too, not surprising considering Joker's all about the smile. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
