Go Insane All Over Again With This GAME OF THRONES and TOO MANY COOKS Mashup

$

When Too Many Cooks took the internet by storm last year, I think a lot of people wanted to forget about it as quickly as possible. The catchy theme song from the original sitcom parody video hooked people and took them on a descent into complete and utter madness, so it makes sense that most people would want to scrub their brains of that experience. But even though a small part of me wanted to do the same thing, I've somehow ended up doing the opposite: I can't escape Too Many Cooks. Every time someone says a phrase with the words "too many" in it, the song automatically pops into my head, and remains there for at least the rest of that day. I don't know if I'll ever be truly free of it.

Now someone has come along and mashed up Game of Thrones with Too Many Cooks, introducing dozens of GOT characters with crappy yellow sitcom-style font as the original song plays below. If you've read this far, you're probably already singing that incessant song in your head, so you might as well go ahead and check this out (and then rewatch the original video below just for kicks).

Chillingly Intense Trailer For Johnny Depp's Crime Drama BLACK MASS

Here's the Johnny Depp that I've been missing! The first trailer for his upcoming crime drama Black Mass has been released, and it looks like he gives a freakin' awesome performance. As you'll see in this trailer, he's chillingly intense. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie where I've been impressed by a performance from Depp, but it looks like he delivers something amazing this time around. I can't wait to see more.

The movie was directed by Scott Cooper and it also stars Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller, and Adam Scott. Here's the synopsis:

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

We got our first look at Depp in the role of Whitey yesterday, and the director had this to say about the main character in the film in a previous interview:

“He could be charming. He could be ruthless. He was like a cobra—you never knew where he could strike. A lot of people on set knew Whitey intimately. They got chills at [Depp’s] resemblance. Some of them couldn’t even look at him. It’s easy to be the mustache twirling villain but this performance couldn’t be further from that. He is truly gifted.”

Black Mass is opening in theaters on September 18th.

Twisted Horror Movie Short — THE VISITANT with Doug Jones and Amy Smart

twisted-horror-movie-short-the-visitant-with-doug-jones-and-amy-smart

I’ve got a fantastic horror short film for you to watch today called The Visitant, which was screened at the FilmQuest Film Festival last year. Not only is the film great, but there’s a lot of solid talent surrounding it. The Visitant was written and directed by Nick Peterson, and produced by Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). This is the same team that brought us the short film Drained, which you can watch here. The Visitant stars Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect, Crank) and Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy).

The story centers on a mother who faces down a demon that is lurking in her daughter's bedroom. I absolutely loved the creature design in this thing, and the intensity is awesome. There was an unexpected twist that I didn’t see coming, and I loved the nightmarish nature of it. On top of all that, it was beautifully shot.

The film was funded on Kickstarter, and the director talked with us exclusively about the movie. You can read the brief interview below the embed.

What was your inspiration behind the film? What were some films or stories that influenced you?

"Being a parent my biggest fear is something happening to my kids. And one night after putting my daughter to bed I thought 'what if there was a demon lurking in the shadows waiting for me to leave'…soon after that I thought about making this film."

Is there a background story behind the creature that was created for the film, if so can you tell us what it is?

"Yes, there’s actually a really large backstory that I wrote up to drive the design of the creature. We don’t get into it very much in the short and a lot of that is shown in the feature. I always think it’s a good idea to build a rich backstory even for a short film, this helps create the whole environment."

How long did it take to apply the make up on Doug Jones?

"I think it took Steve Wang and his team about 6-7 hours to do the makeup." (See behind the scenes photos below.)

Is this a story that you would like to adapt into a feature film?

"Yes! We have an awesome feature film script which is influenced by the short film and gets into the much deeper mythology of who this demon is, where did he come from and a whole other world."

Are you currently working on another film project? If so, can you tell us anything about it?

"Lately I’ve been swamped directing commercials and music videos…I’ve got a few things in development for few horror projects and something way out there is this Action/Terror film called “Final Ascent” we’re pitching around…you can watch the heart-racing, palm sweating teaser here:"

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 Adds Tyler Perry

$

I was shocked to discover that Tyler Perry was one of the best parts about David Fincher's Gone Girl last year. Now there's a chance he could end up being one of the best parts of a superhero movie sequel. Variety reports that Perry has joined the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as Baxter Stockman, the scientist who — in the comics and animated series — created the Mousers, small robotic creatures used to rob banks and destroy sewer rats. (You may remember fighting them in the TMNT arcade game, too.)

While the most recent live-action TMNT movie wasn't great, I imagine it worked really well for younger audiences, and that's probably what the filmmakers were going for. The older crowd will always have the 1990s films to revisit, and this new movie is better than it could have been. (How's that for faint praise?) If they embrace the more ridiculous aspects of the franchise — such as turning Tyler Perry's Baxter Stockman into a Goldblum-style half man half fly creature and bringing Krang into the equation — these movies will at least be making some fascinating choices, even if they don't result in something longtime fans would actually consider "good."

The TMNT sequel, which is being directed by Earth To Echo helmer David Green, will apparently feature Bebop and Rocksteady, and will see Megan Fox and Will Arnett reprising their roles. Stephen Amell will play Casey Jones, while supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio will play Arnett's girlfriend. The movie arrives next summer on June 3rd, 2016.

Black Widow Meets SKYFALL — Red Room Art by Jamal Campbell

Pryce14, real name Jamal Campbell, was commissioned for this cool as hell Black Widow art you see above. The request was for Widow in a Skyfall-style poster, and this definitely fits the bill. Black Widow would be such a natural fit in a James Bond-style action flick, so much so that it boggles my mind it's taking so damn long for her to get her own movie. Sadly it is just art for now, but man, it's really slick art. Guess this will have to do, since for some reason, Disney isn't willing to give us any Black Widow merchandise, at least at the moment. In the meantime you can check out more of Pryce14's artwork on his DeviantArt page, and even though this was a single commission, I would love to see this become a series, so here's hoping.

Trailer For Found Footage Sci-Fi Horror Film AREA 51

The first trailer for the found footage sci-fi film Area 51 has finally been released. The movie comes from Paranormal Activity writer and director Oren Peli and this is a movie he started working on in 2008 after Paranormal Activity became a smash hit. The fact that it has been sitting on a shelf all this time isn't a good sign.

The story centers on three young conspiracy theorists who attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, only to find horrifying, unimaginable secrets. I've always wanted to see a great movie that revolves around Area 51, unfortunately this movie is probably not it. There's a reason why it hasn't been released yet.

The film stars Reid WarnerJamel KingBen Rovner and Jelena Nik.  Here's the synopsis:

Witness a new vision of terror from director Oren Peli. Three young conspiracy theorists attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, the government’s top secret location rumored to have hosted encounters with alien beings. What they find at this hidden facility exposes horrifying, unimaginable secrets. Now you can experience their harrowing adventure in this footage pieced together from documentation of these chilling events.

The movie will be released exclusively in Alamo Drafthouse theaters on May 15th, and will also be available on VOD and digital platforms at that time as well.

Sexy Admiral Ackbar Cosplay From Star Wars Celebration

Not too long ago, we saw some disturbing Tyrion Lannister cosplay that featured the Game of Thrones character's head on a woman's body. This is apparently becoming a trend, since there was a similar phenomenon happening at Star Wars Celebration, but with Admiral Ackbar as the object of confusion. Grant Imahara (formerly of Mythbusters fame) took a photo of his girlfriend Jenny Newman dressed as Admiral AckBunny, a cross between Ackbar and a Playboy bunny. She was one of many Star Wars Bunnies that were roaming the convention, and I've included a couple of photos of the rest of them below.

Chris Evans Is Open To More CAPTAIN AMERICA Films After AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

$

During the Avengers: Age of Ultron press junket, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner got in a bit of trouble when they jokingly referred to Black Widow as a "slut" and a "whore" in one of the million interviews they did with various press outlets (you can see the video below). They've since issued apologies, but that's not really the focus of this piece. I wanted to talk a little about some of Evans' comments later in the interview, mainly what he said about potentially returning to the Marvel universe after the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.

(There will be potential spoilers for all future MCU movies and Age of Ultron from here on out. You've been warned.)

Digital Spy asked Evans about comments he made last year that indicated he'd be stepping away from acting, and apparently those comments were taken out of context:

"I gave an interview once where I said I was gonna try and focus a little more on directing, and that's true, it's what I'm excited about right now. But acting is still... I love acting, in no way am I walking away from acting. With [Captain America], it's a matter of whether or not Marvel wants to keep knocking, but my contract is up after the last Avengers movies."

Big surprise, right? "Actor open to the possibility of making more money." But the overarching storyline that Marvel may be playing with might be at odds with that.

There's been some speculation that Steve Rogers would be killed in Captain America: Civil War, leading Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier) to take over the Captain America role and Evans to somehow return in Avengers: Infinity War. It remains to be seen what Marvel's plans are after the dust settles following the blow-out with Thanos a few years from now, but I suppose it's possible that Evans could come back for more Cap adventures. He's not going to be able to play that character forever, though, and it seems like Bucky taking over is a natural passing of the shield. What do you think?

MAN OF STEEL Color Comparison Shows A Much Brighter Superman

$

I really liked a lot of elements of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. I thought Henry Cavill and the rest of the cast were fantastic, the action was awesome, the visual effects were impressive, and the score was pulse-pounding and satisfying. I wasn't a big fan of the way Superman effectively murdered millions of people by omission in the final confrontation with Zod, but from the early discussions about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it appears that movie will handle the fallout from his action (or inaction) as a major plot point, so I'm willing to see where they go with that.

One thing a lot of people complained about was the desaturated visual palette. In comparison with Richard Donner's brightly colored classic, this movie appears unnecessarily bleak, capturing more of the Dark Knight look than anything that was associated with Superman up until that time. VideoLab (via Collider) decided to tweak the colors in the footage and present a side-by-side comparison of the real footage with their lightened version to give fans an idea of what we could have had if Snyder had decided to go a different way with his film. I'm not convinced the lighter version is the only way to go — Superman doesn't necessarily have to always be bright and colorful in my opinion — but it's definitely a diametrically opposed view from what we got in the final film. What do you all think?

FURIOUS 8 Gets a 2017 Release Date

Universal Pictures has announced that that the eighth film in the Fast and Furious franchise will be released on April 14th, 2017. The announcement was made at CinemaCon in Las Vegas where Vin Diesel exclaimed, "We're going to make the best movie you've ever seen."

There's no word on what the plot line of Furious 8 will be, but you can bet your ass that fast and awesome cars are going to be involved. It was also previously revealed that the upcoming stories would focus more on heist type elements, so I imagine that's the same direction they'll take. It's been working for them so far, so they might as well not stop now.

There aren't many other details at this point on Furious 8, but it will be racing into theaters in 2017. We'll keep you updated on any details on the film between now and then.

Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's New Horror Film THE VISIT

M. Night Shymalan went out and made a new horror film called The Visit, and today we have the haunting first trailer. Shymalan showed so much promise as a filmmaker with The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Unfortunately, every movie he made after that just got progressively worse.

This new film returns Shymalan to his horror roots, and it tells the story of "a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day."

There's also a teaser poster that you can see above which offers up three of “Grandma’s Rules”: 1. Have a great tim;. 2. Eat as much as you want; and 3. Don’t ever leave your room after 9:30 pm. These are probably rules they should follow, because their grandma and grandpa are freakin' insane! I have no idea what is actually going on, there's some pretty unsettling stuff that is shown in the trailer. Why in the hell are these old people scaring the shit out of their grandkids?!

Even though I don't care for the films that Shyamalan has made in recent years, this trailer certainly sparked some curiosity.

The film stars Kathryn Hahn (Tomorrowland, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Ed Oxenbould (Julien, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), Deanna Dunagan (Unforgettable, Have a Little Faith), Peter McRobbie (Marvel’s Daredevil, Lincoln) and Olivia DeJonge (Hiding, The Sisterhood of Night).

The movie will be released in September of this year.

Charlie Cox Discusses DAREDEVIL Season 2

The first season of Daredevil blew up Netflix, and a lot of fans loved what they saw. I thought it was one of the best things that Marvel has produced, and I am so happy that season two has been given the greenlight!

Daredevil star Charlie Cox was recently a guest on the Empire Podcast, and he talked a little bit about season two, teasing things that he would like to see happen:

“I have to be careful because we just got commissioned so I have no idea who is going to turn up. Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did."

It would be amazing to see any of those characters show up in Daredevil. Punisher, Electra, Black Widow, and Bullseye? Why the hell not?! Since the series is set in the Marvel universe anything can happen, and the creators have a lot of stuff to play with. Cox went on to talk about when they will start shooting and gave his thoughts on what the release timeline will be.

“We’ll begin shooting in the second half of the year. It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year. Again, I’m imagining all this, but there’ll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.”

The actor also explained that it’s exciting to have a season where Matt Murdock is going to get to embody his alter-ego before they get to The Defenders. Marvel and Netflix are currently shooting A.K.A. Jessica Jones, which stars Krysten Ritter and David Tennant. Cox is looking forward to getting back into the red suit and kicking some ass.

ASH VS. EVIL DEAD - Set Photo and New Series Details

ash-vs-evil-dead-set-photo-and-new-series-details

Ash Vs. Evil Dead is currently in production and shooting in Auckland, New Zealand. We have our first photo from the set of the film featuring Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert, and the classic 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that Ash drove in the original Evil Dead films. It's so awesome that they brought the car back! I guess it wouldn't truly be Evil Dead without it.

The three guys took a little bit of time to jump on a conference call with the press to talk about the upcoming series, and they offered up lots of good details that you’re going to want to know. The following information comes from Collider

One thing that Campbell made clear, “This is not going to be a watered down version of Evil Dead. …[The fans] want the hardcore stuff, and they’re going to get it.”

Here are some points of interest that I wanted to highlight from the interview:

The series is set in an alternate universe after the events of Evil Dead 2. Raimi explains,

“It doesn’t really exist in the exact same universe. It’s a slightly altered universe. It takes place somewhere in an alternate universe after Evil Dead 2.”

The events of Army of Darkness still exist, but it’s something they won’t really reference. Raimi says,

“Army of Darkness, does it exist? Well, certainly Ash went through that experience. We’re not referencing specifics from that, but he certainly has that in his memory.”

The series picks up when the Deadites come back from a long period of being dormant. Raimi opened up about the setting,

“The Deadites have been fairly dormant over the last 20-30 years and Ash has been living a low life, hiding out. Our story really begins when they come back and someone is needed to stand up against them.” Is it Ash’s fault that they come back? “Of course.”

Raimi also described the tone of the series saying that it will be a mix of the ingrained horror of Evil Dead and the fun comedy of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness

“We have elements of the Evil Dead films, which have always had very hard-edged, intense horror really designed to frighten the audience, and no holds barred there…But also, there is a comedic element that is alive in this…. I think what we tried to do is go back to the horror of the first and second Evil Dead, but with the character that Bruce created over the second and third Evil Dead. We’re really a combination; something we haven’t quite seen before.”

Campbell said that Ash is a basket case and traumatized by the horrific events that he went through in the first three films.

“He is a basketcase. We’re going to find Ash is potentially damaged goods and, god forbid, this is our hero.”

Tapert continued,

“He’s not a nobler or saner character than when we last saw him. In fact, I think if anything, he’s digressed. He’s kind of sunk to his lowest instincts, and that’s where we find him.”

The chainsaw arm will definitely be in the series. I’m sure his broomstick will too, but that’s not confirmed. Tapert said,

“He’s been living in fear of a resurgence of the Evil Dead, of the Deadites, so that old rusted hulk of his, that’s the one thing he’s kept oiled up and in tip-top shape just in case. So I think we will see that sweet baby come back, come roaring to life, slicing and dicing on the Deadites.”

The special effects were designed to keep in line with the previous Evil Dead films. Tapert went on to say,

“We’re working with a great makeup effects artist down in New Zealand, Roger Murray, we’ve worked with him on various things over the years. That’s one of the expectations from the franchise; makeup effects, gore effects. So absolutely we plan to have those and continue with what the audience expects from the franchise in a new and different way.” Campell agreed, “This is not going to be a watered down version of Evil Dead. The very first Evil Dead has no rating. The second Evil Dead has no rating. Only Army of Darkness was ever rated. Thankfully by partnering with Starz, the gloves are off and we have no restrictions, almost literally…[The fans] want the hardcore stuff, and they’re going to get it.

Tapert went on to explain that the reason they went with the half-hour show format is so they could match the “breakneck” pace that the films set.

“One of the reasons we decided we wanted to do a half hour was that we thought that this was – the breakneck pace that the movies often had, that really was the right format in the world of television for this particular project.” Raimi continued, “I really appreciate that Starz let us keep this half-hour idea. That’s what makes it really cool to me, that we can really fire on all cylinders, and be outrageous and fast paced and non-stop without a lot of secondary character exposition that sometimes you find in these hour shows.”

Even though this series is being made, Raimi is still hoping that there will be a sequel to the remake.

“I love the Evil Dead remake. I think Fede Alvarez did a brilliant job…I love that movie, and I hope there will be a sequel. After we had made his movie, as much as the fans loved it, they also seemed to want to see Bruce again in this series. So we thought, this is our time. If we’re ever going to do it, we have to set aside that crowd. Now is a good time. And television seems like an interesting format to take it forward in. So we chose to make Bruce’s story right now. I hope we can get Fede back to continue the new Evil Dead series once we’ve established Bruce’s story.

There’s also a possibility that we will see another Evil Dead movie featuring Ash, so don’t count that out.

“It’s a possibility no matter what happens, because I think we always want to keep that ability in the back of our minds to tell a story on the big ol‘ screen. Nothing will preclude anything, regardless of what happens.”

If the first season does well, everyone involved would come back for a second season. Campbell stated,

“I’m not going anywhere. This is the show I’m going to devote basically every ounce of my aging energy into. This is something that you don’t take lightly. This was a long road to get here, starting back in ’79.”

Tapert added,

“It would be a joyless process that the mantle would be passed to anyone else. I just don’t see that as a possible outcome in this.”

Raimi continued,

“I feel the same way. I think we’re really doing this to work together again as a team.”

There’s a lot of great stuff here, but there’s a lot more over on Collider, so make sure to head over there for more information! Ash vs Evil Dead is set to premiere on Starz in fall 2015, and it sounds like it's going to be glorious.

Is Doctor Strange Set to Appear in Marvel’s IRON FIST?

Bleeding Cool is reporting a rumor from their inside sources that Doctor Strange might make an appearance in Marvel’s Iron Fist Netflix series. There’s a good chance that Benedict Cumberbatch will be involved, but there’s no information on to what extent. The site says,

“Whether he will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch as he is in the upcoming movie scheduled for next year, or will be shown in a way that doesn’t need such a high profile actor to be on set, I don’t know. But odds are that the Cumberbatch will at least do the voice.”

This is just a rumor for now, but Bleeding Cool has been good with Marvel scoops like this, so it might turn out to be legit. Only time will tell. Iron Fist hasn’t started filming yet, but it’s not too hard to think that the Sorcerer Supreme could show up. After all, the two characters have history together in the comics.

Scott Derrickson is directing the feature film Doctor Strange, and Marvel will release it on November 4th , 2016. If they do include Doctor Strange in the series, they might as well, go all the way. Do you think it makes sense for Strange to appear in Iron Fist?

Not only are the figures themselves awesome, but the illustrations on the back of the packaging are funny as hell.

Thanks to Empire we have our first look at James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe in the upcoming film Victor Frankenstein. The photos here offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the set of the movie, which gives us a unique twist on the classic Mary Shelley story of science gone terribly wrong. I'm really curious to see how this movie turns out. It has some great talent involved, so hopefully it'll be a solid film.

James McAvoy is Viktor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel. Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein, and them become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man – and the legend – we know today.

The film is being directed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) and it comes from a script written by Max Landis (Chronicle). The film also stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss, and Freddie Fox and will be released on October 2nd.

I've got an entertaining imaginative short film for you to check out called "Armagedrones." It follows the mischief and adventures of two young kids controlling a pair of armegedrones as they rampage through a toy store while the owner chases them down.

The film was created by Daniel Brunet and Nicolas Douste, and it is both a live-action and CG animated movie. It's really fun, as it implements things that you would find in a toy store into the action. It's also loaded with lots of cool little movie Easter eggs.

We've got an insanely action-packed TV spot for Avengers: Age of Ultron for you to check out. The promo may only be 15 seconds long, but there's a lot of epic awesomeness that was thrown into it, including a quick glimpse of Vision kicking some robot ass.

I also included a new featurette for the film that focuses on the female members of the superhero team: Scarlet Witch and Black Widow. In it Kevin Feige, Scarlett Johansson, Joss Whedon, and Elizabeth Olsen discuss these characters. The movie hits theaters on May 1st, and I can't freakin' wait!

There might be some SPOILERISH visuals in this spot, so you've been warned.
