PEE-WEE'S BIG HOLIDAY Movie Officially Set for Netflix

Pee-wee Herman is officially coming to Netflix with his long-awaited new movie Pee-wee's Big Holiday. This is the film that Paul Reubens has been developing with producer Judd Apatow (Funny People, Knocked Up) for the last few years. It's really exciting to see that it's actually happening.

The story of the film centers around "a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger [that] inspires Pee-wee to take his first-ever holiday in an epic story of friendship and destiny."

There's no release date yet, but production is scheduled to start early this year. The movie will be directed by John Lee (Broad City,  Inside Amy Schumer), who will be making his feature-film directorial debut with the film. He will direct from a script written by Reubens and Paul Rust (Arrested Development, Inglourious Basterds).

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement:

“We didn’t hesitate for a moment knowing that ‘Pee-wee’s Big Holiday’ was such a passion project for Paul and Judd and we are delighted by the opportunity to introduce such a beloved character to a new generation.”

Apatow added:

“As a fan of Pee-wee Herman since he first appeared on ‘The Dating Game,’ I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the brilliant Paul Reubens on this film. It is a dream come true.”

Pee-wee Herman first appeared in 1981 at L.A.'s The Groundlings improv theater. That was the start of an incredibly fun franchise that had a great TV series, a couple of classic films, and a stage production. It's so cool to see that after all these years Pee-wee still has a large fanbase and that his comeback is gaining steam. I really hope this movie does well for him.

Insanely Dark R-Rated POWER RANGERS Fan Film with Katee Sackhoff

Producer Adi Shankar, the man who brought us Dredd and Lone Survivor, is back with another crazy dark unofficial fan film for us to enjoy. He previously released other fan films, such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Venom: Truth in Journalism, and the animated Judge Dredd: Superfiend.

Now he has made the grittiest version of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that we've ever seen. Seriously, this thing is absolutely insane, and very R-rated.

The short was directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque, Detention), and it stars Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek). What funny about this is that Kahn isn't even a fan of the Power Rangers. He talked about the project In an interview with Hitfix.

“I think the trick that I really wanted to do with this was to make that dark and gritty version that everybody keeps talking about, but really do it. Really see if I could totally accomplish it with essentially a really incredible incredibly silly property.”

As you know, Lionsgate is currently developing a new big screen adaptation of the property, and there's no way it will be anything like this. In fact, I don't think it will be as good as what you're about the watch. Even if Kahn was asked to direct their film, though, he wouldn't do it.

“The irony here is that I wouldn’t even want to make 'Power Rangers: The Movie’ for real. Like if I had to make a ‘Power Rangers’ movie, this is it. It’s 14 minutes long and it’s violent and this is what I have in me. If they offered me the 200 million version, the PG-13 version, I literally wouldn’t do it. It’s just not interesting to me.”

He makes a great point. After seeing something like this would you even be interested in seeing a PG-13 version of Power Rangers?

The Lionsgate version of the franchise will be released in theaters on July 22nd, 2016. Now watch the short and give us your review.

Below the short is another video in which Shankar explains why he decided to develop this bootleg Power Rangers film.

Dwayne Johnson Says SHAZAM Could Arrive Earlier Than Expected

When Warner Bros. initially announced their slate of DC Comics films, they said Shazam wasn't going to be released until 2019. That's quite a long way out, but according to Dwayne Johnson, who is set to play Black Adam in the movie, we might not have to wait four years to see it. Here's what he said when MTV caught up with him on the red carpet at the Oscars:

“It may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in, it’s great, the support from the studio has been great. It’s just a great opportunity, especially with Black Adam where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into an anti-hero, we can make him vicious, a little bit of winking charm.”

Johnson goes on to confirm they are still not sure who will play Shazam in the movie. The script for the film is being written by Jack the Giant Slayer writer Darren Lemke. The movie will tell the story of teenager Billy Batson, who transforms into a superhero when he uses the magic word "Shazam!"

The movie is currently set to be released on April 5th, 2019. Who knows how far the studio will want to move it up from that date, though. I guess it depends on how the character will fit in with the rest of their shared cinematic universe.

Official Poster for Marvel's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Debuts

Marvel has just revealed the official poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron. I was wondering how they were going to cram all of the actors into one poster, but they somehow managed to do it. We still don't get a great look at Paul Bettany's The Vision here, but I sort of like that we haven't seen too much of that character; I actually hope they save his full reveal for the movie itself, so at least fans are surprised by something.

It's no shock that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo take up the most real estate and are the first names listed on this poster, but what is a little surprising from a design perspective is that Evans' Steve Rogers is the character who's closest to the audience, the furthest in the foreground. Is that a subtle visual hint that the audience is meant to side with Steve in what's sure to be the conflict that eventually escalates into Captain America: Civil War? Time will tell, but in the meantime, let us know what you think about the new poster below.

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk.  Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015.

Here's an incredibly fun set of photos that give us a glimpse at what some of our favorite superheroes are doing when they aren't out saving the world. According to photographer Edy Hardjo, they just like to cause all kinds of hijinks! As you'll see, he gets really playful with these Hot Toys action figures, and the outcome of the photos is magically marvelous. I also threw a couple in there that feature Mr. Bean.

Hardjo explained his craft in an interview with Shutterbug saying, “I use my daily experience as source of ideas… All I do is replace the ‘usual’ thing with the ‘unusual.'” Enjoy!

Supercut of Wes Anderson's Use of Red & Yellow on Film

I always appreciate anything that can get me to look at film from a fresh perspective. For example, I just heard a theory the other day that says that Leonardo DiCaprio's character Jack Dawson from Titanic is a time traveler sent from the future to save Rose's life in a Terminator-type of situation. The apparent reasoning for this was that people figured out that some of the styles of clothes Jack wears weren't popularized or invented until years after the Titanic sank, and he mentioned a lake to Rose that was man-made and wouldn't be created until years after the ship went down. There were some other little things like that, too (I think they said he had no currency at the beginning of the movie, though if that was the case, what did he use to bet in that card game where he and Fabrizio won the tickets?). Do I believe any of that? Absolutely not. I don't think James Cameron gave a crap about when exactly DiCaprio's clothes were created - I think he was concentrating more on the story and the characters and didn't expect anyone to call him out on such tiny details. But the concept is sort of fascinating, and the next time I'm channel surfing and stumble across Titanic, I'll look at the movie in a new way.

That's a long-winded way of saying that this new supercut from Rishi Kaneria will now make me look a little closer at the films of Wes Anderson. It highlights his use of the colors red and yellow in the movie's he's made so far, and it's kind of cool to watch a split-screen dissection of those colors pulled out of context from the movies because it just goes to show that Anderson creates such mesmerizing worlds that we often don't even notice just how much of the same colors are being used - we're too busy being pulled into what's going on with his characters and the colors are almost subliminal at times. Check it out below.

MEN IN BLACK and JUMP STREET Crossover Film Update From Chris Miller

When Sony Pictures was hacked, it was revealed that there were discussions involving a crossover film that would bring together Men in Black with the Jump Street franchise. This isn't just a pipe dream either, this movie could actually happen, and it's still being considered. In a recent interview with Comingsoon, writer and director Chris Miller talks about the possible project. When asked about the movie he said:

"Well, it’s very, very early on in this crazy fever pitch, but it’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think. Talking about it, developing it with Jonah and Channing and Rodney and the studio, we can’t just do the, 'Hey, it’s the same thing again' schtick because we did that already."

I'm happy to hear that they are looking to be even more inventive with the properties, as if combining the two franchise together wasn't enough. He's then asked about the Jump Street sequels seen at the very end of 22 Jump Street, and he goes on to explain:

"Exactly. Those are canon, all 22 sequels. If we’re going to do something, it’s got to be different but still have that same very specific Jump Street flavor to it."

There's no word on if Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones would be involved with the project, but it wouldn't be a proper crossover without them. If they don't jump on board this crazy ride, I'm sure Miller and co-writer/co-director Phil Lord will still come up with and an awesome story. That's just what these creative guys do.

Super Powers You Don't Actually Want: Super Speed

$

Who among us hasn't imagined what it would be like to fly among the stars? To be faster than a speeding bullet? To deliver a punch stronger than justice to an evil-doer? We all have at some point wondered what it would be like to be a superhero, and the purpose of this series is to console you and or crush your dreams. Take solace in your regularity, and be thankful you aren't unlucky enough to gain these debilitating superhuman abilities. First up?

SUPER SPEED

Super speed has really gotten a boost in profile as of late. With the growing popularity of The Flash and Quicksilver, everyone is realizing how badass it would be to be a speedster. I mean who didn't watch this scene in X Men Days of Future Past and wish they could be that awesome?

First let's kick things off by saying it is possible for a human to move on their own at super speed! The human brain regulates bodily functions on a 24 hour cycle or a circadian rhythm. For this reason we all react and experience things at the same rate and time, but say you were to enlarge the area of the body responsible for this, the suprachiasmatic nucleus. If enlarged, you could in fact increase the frame rate in which your body sees, reacts, and moves by as much as 10 times the average human being! Given that Usian Bolt was clocked running at 28 mph in a 100 meter dash, that's pretty fast, but it can come with some nasty consequences.

So let's say you drank a uranium-infused energy drink that enlarged your suprachiasmatic nucleus, got violently ill, miraculously avoided death and/or terminal illness, and boom - you now have super speed. You jump out of bed on your first day and decide on a quick run to work because you're super fast but OMG you're always running late. You take your time getting ready knowing it'll only take you a minute to get to work and boom you're out the door. All your papers scatter violently and the force at which your shoes connect with the carpet ignites a spark which sets your apartment on fire. You don't notice this as you are already miles away chugging along with your newfound speed.

Wow, being fast is great. You're zooming in and out of traffic, past people, and you think "this would be super cool if anyone could see me right now." You decide to jazz it up and sprint up the side of an multi-story office building because who doesn't think that's badass? You're flying up the side of the building when suddenly everything feels super heavy, and holy s*** you can't see anymore. You black out and fall off the building to your death. Too bad, so sad.

Vertical G Force is going to be your biggest obstacle to cope with as a speedster. Astronauts and air force pilots regularly undergo training for the effects of the Earth's gravity on mass acceleration to prevent disasters such as this from happening. Luckily horizontal G Force is much more forgiving on the human body and you shouldn't experience many problems running at ground level.

Okay, let's "Choose Your Own Adventure" this and pretend we didn't mean to turn to that page and we weren't really going to run up the building. You're bounding along the sidewalk at 300 mph having a blast and boom - a fly collides into your eye. You were so busy flourishing and vaulting the large things you had no ability to dodge this little guy and now you are blind in your right eye. Your pain and agony cause more havoc as you no longer pay attention to your direction and you collide with a little old woman. You both are obliterated on impact with blood and guts flying everywhere.

This is going to be a serious issue as a speedster. Any direct collision you have traveling over 60 MPH is going to be fatal. Granted, your reaction time is going to be super heightened so most of the time you're going to be able to dodge a lot of things that seemingly look like they are standing still, but it only takes one mistake to end your life.

*flips back a few pages to fly colliding with eye*

You realize you could hurt someone in your blinded state and throw on the brakes. Your shoes disintegrate and you collide with the pavement and die. Super healing does nothing as you die on impact.

Surprise surprise, you can't come to a sudden stop. You'll need ample time to decelerate for however fast you'll be traveling. Stopping on a dime will cause you to flip over yourself and likely kill you and trying to do anything other than slow down will destroy the soles of your feet.

*flips back to beginning of adventure*

So unlike literally every origin movie you've ever seen, this isn't a trial and error situation. If you are going to have super speed, you must be prepared or you will die. So you contact your local S.T.A.R labs, get a ballin' suit from Cisco, and hopefully most of your scenarios above will become non-existent with the proper amount of training. In fact, out of all superhuman abilities, super speed is the one most attainable for the human body if you are conditioned for it! It's a shame you won't be around too long to witness your own greatness, however.

That's right, with great power comes increased aging and early death. Expanding your suprachiasmatic nucleus not only increased your reaction time, it also drastically shortened your lifespan. Past age 18 you'll begin to age at nearly double the rate of others. You'll look 40 in your early 20s and not too long after that, gain leg and muscle pains severely impeding your ability to walk, much less dash at high speeds. That's all assuming you can maintain a 200,000 calorie a day diet to keep your body from devouring itself. Not a great way to live in my personal opinion.

Sorry to crush your dreams, but super speed isn't all it's cracked up to be. On the upside, it is far from the worst super power to have bestowed upon you, as we'll go into in future articles. Until then!

Margot Robbie on Harley Quinn and SUICIDE SQUAD Sequels

When an actor signs on to a superhero film with Marvel or DC in a lead role, chances are they are have signed on for multiple films. In a interview with The Arizona RepublicMargot Robbie talks about playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad and shares her thoughts on the potential sequels that she could appear in.

I love that Robbie is taking on the villains role of Quinn. I've been a huge fan of the character since she was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series. She is finally being brought to life for the big screen, and the actress is the perfect choice. When the excitement of her playing the character came up in the conversation she said,

"Oh my God, me too. I don't even know if I'm meant to be talking about this."

When asked if it was scary for her to be potentially playing the character for years, she gave the following reply:

"Yeah, that's daunting. You don't need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away. … But with her, it's a character I don't think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did 'Suicide Squad One,' 'Two' and 'Three,' I would be over the moon about it."

I know we have no idea how director David Ayer's Suicide Squad is going to turn out, so who knows if we'll get any sequels. But Warner Bros. is building a cinematic universe, and even if we don't see Quinn in any sequels, I do hope that she does appear in some of the other movies that they are developing. She's got the multi-film contract, the studio might as well take advantage of it, and not limit her to just Suicide Squad. Hell, that goes for all the characters we see in Suicide Squad!

The Joker's New Origin Explored in Video Breakdown

DC Comic's New 52 is starting to dive into certain elements regarding the Joker and his past. The Joker's history has always been kind of a mystery, but we are going to start to learn a little more about it in the Batman comic series. Batman #39 is said to include even more about his mysterious past than we already know.

Mr. Sunday Movies has released a video in which he discusses this new origin and whether or not it's better to leave his past a mystery. I personally think DC should leave it a mystery. Yeah, it makes for intriguing reading material, but the mystery that surrounds the Joker is one of the main things that make him so damn terrifying.

If you're not up to date on the Batman series then I suggest you don't watch the video. But if you don't read the comics, and you're just interested to hear what's going on, then by all means check it out!

Paul Feig Says THE WALKING DEAD is Influencing His GHOSTBUSTERS Movie

Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig is rebooting Ghostbusters with an all-female cast. We've heard him talk a little about his take on the movie so far, but generally things are being kept pretty close to the vest. Well, Feig went on Talking Dead this past weekend immediately following the most recent episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, and he revealed a relatively surprising influence on his upcoming movie.

I will say, I was very inspired by this show. What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it’s always about gauntlet run. And that’s something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off of The Walking Dead.

Personally, I'm not a fan of The Walking Dead, but I can still appreciate what Feig is saying here. There's definitely a sense of danger and a willingness to kill off main characters that the show displays, so I'd be happy if there was a clearly defined sense of stakes in the new Ghostbusters movie and the danger of a character dying at any moment. It would absolutely help Feig to make the movie a little scarier than the original two, which is something he's said that he wants to do, presumably as a way to carve out a bit of a separate identity for this movie. What do you think?

If you're a massive fan of Godzilla, how would you feel about the giant monster watching you sleep at night? If that sounds like something you're into, soon there will be a place that will allow that bizarre dream to become a reality. Kotaku has a bunch of concept photos of The Hotel Gracery in Shinjuku, which opens on April 24th, and features a giant Godzilla head looming out above some of the rooms.

This seems like it'll be a must-visit place for the most hardcore Godzilla fans around the world, and to make things even cooler, the hotel actually sits on top of Toho Cinema, with Toho being the company that brought Godzilla to fame in the first place.

The Godzilla Room is 39,800 yen (US$ 334) during weekdays and 49,800 yen ($417) during weekends and holidays. There are two Godzilla View Rooms available, with each a single starting at 15,000 yen ($125) a night.

J.J. Abrams on STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer Process

I can't wait to see what new footage will be released in the next trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was recently reported that J.J. Abrams would be kicking off Star Wars Celebration 2015 in a big way. I imagine that means fans are going to be treated to a new trailer from the film, at least that's one of the things we're all hoping for!

In a recent interview with IrishExaminer, Abrams talks about how they go about the process of deciding when footage for the film will be released and what that footage will entail.

"First of all, I’m always grateful that people would be asking. But the truth is like we haven’t shown anything. We don’t want to be coy but we have almost a year until the movie comes out, so we have to be smart about what we say and when. We’re always having conversations about it.

"There’s sort of an abundance of riches with the stuff we could put out so we’re just trying to make sure it’s as good as it could be before we put anything out. The disaster would be to race something out for the sake of making an impact and it being not as good as people deserve.

"I would say thank you for being interested. Thank you for your patience and honestly, I can’t wait for you to see the film."

It's good to know that the conversation about this stuff is continually going on with the creative team involved with the film. At this point, it's very likely that fans will see some new footage at Star Wars Celebration, and that a trailer will be unleashed on the world with Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is what has been previously reported. One of the things I'm most excited about seeing that might be in the trailer is our first look at the old gang in action.

Julia Stiles and Scott Speedman star in an upcoming new horror thriller called Out of the Dark, which seems to have the making of a really decent flick. The ghost story tale is set in South America, and it follows a young family whose new life is turned from promising to terrifying when they are “forced to confront ancient legends, ghosts, and a haunting family secret.”

The trailer gives off a nice, dark, creepy vibe, and it looks like the kind of horror movie that I would enjoy watching because it seems like it will mess with your head. I just enjoy watching all horror films in general though, so watch the trailer for yourself, and you decide if it's something you think it worth checking out! Out of the Dark is set to be released on February 27th.

Check out the list for yourself, and let us know what games you are a fan of. Are there any other games that you would add to the list?

They may not have gotten the widespread recognition they wanted, but they did create a legion of loyal fans!

Donald Glover Talks About The Possibility of Being the New Spider-Man

Fans of writer/producer/actor/rapper Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) will remember that back before The Amazing Spider-Man came out, there was a fan campaign on Twitter for Sony to cast Glover in the lead role, with the hashtag #Donald4SpiderMan trending like crazy. He never got the chance to play his favorite superhero in live action, but Glover has since provided the voice of Miles Morales on an animated Spider-Man TV series. Now that Spider-Man will be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though, the studio is going to have to recast again and there's a recent rumor that says that Spidey won't be a white guy this time.

Yahoo Movies sat down with Glover to talk about his new low budget horror film The Lazarus Effect, and they asked him about the possibility of playing Spider-Man in the new movies. Glover, who was even more laconic than usual, didn't seem to think it was in the cards, but admitted that he'd do it if he was approached. He is pretty busy putting out Grammy-nominated rap albums and prepping his own FX TV series, though. Do you still want to see him in the role of Miles Morales (or even a black Peter Parker)?

Check out this cool Iron Man screenprint from Chicago-based artist Robert Loukotka, called "The Desk of Mr. Stark." There are a bunch of fun Easter eggs, like the S.H.I.E.L.D. paperwork on the left side of the desk. This is a limited edition run, and a few are still available for $45 at his website if you're interested.

This 36″ screen printed poster is FULL of easter eggs and fun details from Iron Man 1,  2, and 3. As such, it’s a bit anachronistic (or timeless). There’s some legacy items like the Mark 3 suit and faceplate, Tony’s original arc reactor from the cave, etc. There’s also nods to improved tech (the clear screens), and even a glimpse into the future (one of the screens indicates he is researching Vibranium, which supposedly is what Ultron is after in the upcoming Avengers 2).

Viola Davis Confirms She'll Play Amanda Waller in SUICIDE SQUAD

This one shouldn't come as too much of a surprise for those who have been following the casting news of David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad movie, but Oscar-nominated actress Viola Davis has confirmed that she'll be taking on the role of Amanda Waller in the film.

For those of you who don't know, Waller serves as a sort of de facto leader of the Suicide Squad, a team of incarcerated supervillains who do covert operations for the government in exchange for shortened sentences. The character has been played in live action a couple of times before, notably by Jackie Brown's Pam Grier on Smallville and Angela Bassett in the Ryan Reynolds film Green Lantern.

Davis has been rumored to play Waller for a long time now, and she's actually spoken about the character before, but up until now, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to work out the scheduling to appear in the movie. But Canadian talk show etalk (via ComicBook.com) caught up with Davis at the Oscars and got confirmation directly from her - well, mostly from her husband, but she does specifically say "yes" to the question asked, so technically she confirms it as well. Davis is a fantastic actress, so I'm glad to hear that Suicide Squad's cast continues to add great talent as they head toward production.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) took home Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography this past weekend, and to celebrate, Fox Searchlight has released a ridiculous new commercial for a fake Birdman action figure. This looks exactly like something that used to air in a block of Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s and 90s, which is why it works so well. (It's nowhere near as insane as this fake commercial, but it's still pretty good.)

Thanks to The Playlist for pointing this out. Apparently Fox sent these figures out to some members of the press to promote the movie during its original theatrical run, and it'd definitely be cool to have one sitting on a shelf if you were a big fan of the movie.
