UK Trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Sci-Fi Action Film CHAPPIE

uk-trailer-for-neill-blomkamps-sci-fi-action-film-chappie

There's a good amount of new footage featured in this latest UK trailer for Neill Blomkamp's incredibly cool-looking Chappie. I kind of like that Hugh Jackman plays an asshole villain in this. Most of the characters that he plays are likable, but in this one he comes off as being a major prick. It's a good change for him. Chappie has the potential to be a great film, and I can't wait to see it.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The movie hits theaters on March 6th, and it also stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Sigourney Weaver.

Here’s sweet piece of mashup art that combines Deadpool with Assassin’s Creed or Devil May Cry. I came across the art at 9gag.com and they say it’s Assassin’s Creed, but I’ll let you decide. They don’t list who the artist is, and I couldn't find them online, so if you know who it is please let me know so I can credit them. This would definitely make a cool cosplay outfit!

James Cameron's AVATAR Trilogy Won't Start Until 2017

Director James Cameron has announced that he will delay the start of his upcoming Avatar trilogy for a year. The first sequel to Avatar now won't be released until late 2017.

The reasoning behind this push is because writing the three sequels has apparently been  a complex job, and Cameron needs the extra time to get the scripts in place and ready for filming. The plan is to release the three films over three consecutive years. The first film was originally supposed to be released in 2016. Cameron said at a press conference in New Zealand:

"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a stand-alone film."

His goal was to have the scripts for the films completed by the end of this month. He is overseeing a team of writers working on the screenplays and making sure he gets what he wants out of them.

"We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."

Cameron went on to explain that it was important that each film linked forward to the next one in a satisfying way. He wanted to make sure each film  came to a resolution so that the audience wasn't left hanging like we were with Peter Jackson 's Middle Earth films. That will be good, as most moviegoers don't like to be left hanging.

The first Avatar film was released in 2009. By the time the first sequel comes out it will have been eight years. Will Avatar even be relevant by then? Will people even be excited for them? Are people even excited about seeing the sequels now? I know the first film is the highest grossing movie in history, but I don't think that guarantees the success of the sequels. I guess the buzz will just have to rebuild in the months leading up to their release.

The important thing to take away from all this is that Cameron is taking the time to do these films right. And by the time the movies are released, the special effects are probably going to look insane!

ARCHIE VS. PREDATOR Comic Cover Art

A few weeks ago I put together a list of crazy comic book crossovers, and one of them featured Archie meeting The Punisher. If Archie thought The Punisher was bad, just wait until he gets a load of Predator. This is some awesome and amusing comic cover art for an upcoming series called Archie Vs. Predator, and here are the details:

America's favorite teen meets the galaxy's fiercest hunter! Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for Spring Break, where party games and beach games are soon replaced by the Most Dangerous Game! What mysterious attraction does the gang hold for the trophy-collecting Predator, and will the kids even realize they're in danger before it claims them all?

The comic was written by Alex de Campi, and the cover art was created by Fernando Ruiz, with variant covers below by Eric Powell and Francesco Francavilla.

Director Matthew Vaughn Says New FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Is "Good"

Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, has seen Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and he thinks that it's "good."

The director is currently out doing press for his cool new action film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and in an interview with Flickering Myth he shared what he thought of Fantastic Four.

“I’ve seen the movie, it’s good. I thought Chronicle was a fantastic movie and [Josh] Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four. If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this. We’re all backing Josh Trank’s vision. And hopefully the world will like Josh Trank’s vision.”

His lack of enthusiasm doesn't seem very encouraging. He thought that Chronicle was fantastic and that Fantastic Four was only good. Now, I only thought Chronicle was ok, does that mean mean Fantastic Four is just at least going to be ok? I hope not!

I know there has been a lot of fan hate surrounding the new Fantastic Four movie, but I hope that it turns out better than we're expecting. I'd love to see a kickass Fantastic Four movie! But when you hear a director say that it's only "good," than maybe that's where we should set out expectations. Thoughts?

It's Time We Protect Ourselves Against The Gaming Industry

$

0

As we approach year two of the new generation of consoles, I can't help but be disappointed. Two games currently sit on my shelf, unplayable in the way they were advertised to me. These aren't Indie titles, mind you, or bargain barrel franchises.

Ten years ago, if GTA: San Andreas gad promised me a set of cooperative heists missions only to not once, BUT TWICE fail to provide it to me on promised dates, the game would be in the trash. If Halo 2 had launched its competitive online multiplayer to endless problems and glitches for the first three months, the franchise wouldn't have lived to see Halo 3.

It's unfair to single out just those two games, as several others, including Watch Dogs, NBA 2K15, and Battlefield 4, all launched with broken features, some of which still haven't been resolved and won't be.

What changed from then to now? Why is it suddenly acceptable business practice to advertise a game to play one way, only to find you've been completely lied to upon playing it? I guess it's not "suddenly acceptable" so much as it has become "standard business practice." For years gamers have been lied to, deceived, and made to feel bad for criticizing a game that doesn't work, and now that the big boys are doing it, we have to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Seriously, gamers have gotten so soft over the last decade. 2014 in gaming was a year full of the phrase, "You can't expect it to work day one."

How many other times is that phrase acceptable with goods you purchase? Would you expect to hear that from your pharmacist on your medication? Would you be cool with hearing that from your electrician? Car salesman? Cable company?

What's worse is that the games industry isn't the one saying this... it's us. We've been conditioned to tell complainers not to buy games at day one, or not buy it at all if it's not working. In fact, the only time we seem to complain is if we don't receive a half-assed apology with a free expansion worth the value of five dollars.

There's a great term, "free expansion." We've lived so long in a world of DLC, we no longer expect a fully completed game upon launch. Because we no longer expect a fully completed game, we are seemingly more okay when a hotly anticipated game comes out a mere shell of the way it was hyped to us for the past year. We expect the gameplay will improve when we dip in more money for more content (Destiny), or when the developers patch the game (Assassins Creed: Unity).

That's an absolutely sickening reality when you think about it. There is too much talent and competition in the gaming industry for major titles to fail again and again and still be given the benefit of the doubt. This wouldn't have happened at the height of the console wars, and now that everyone is settled into their respective positions in sales, we likely have to expect six more years of this.

Perhaps the most infuriating thing is game companies try to make US feel bad for what they do. They often times put the most vulnerable staff on display (developers) and force them to explain why the game doesn't work, and how they are going to fix it. The reality is those game developers worked 72 hour work weeks to push out a half-baked game because the same people forcing them to take accountability wanted the game out by a certain date.

So then the ones who know the developers are not to blame go after the big wigs. They take guys like Andrew Wilson (EA Games) and Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft) to task, and guess what happens? Nothing. Nothing happens. You know why? Because ultimately nothing will change.

Why will nothing change? Because the money keeps coming in. How can this happen, though, when we all the time see educated gamers like ourselves ranting and raving about how we won't stand for this, and this is the last time we will get fooled by the games industry?

I'm still buying these games. You're still buying these games. Our friends are still buying these games. I can't, and won't, just stop gaming. So I bite, again and again, and get burned by the industry by broken games. It's easy to admit we can all be idiots to a fault because we are adults, and the gaming industry tells us we are an even 33% split of the gaming demo between kids, teens, and those over 35, but that's not true.

LEGO games don't make it into the top ten selling games year in and year out because of their appeal to us. I believe (although there's no hard data supporting it) children are still the driving force of video game sales. We are approaching the third generation of children born to gamers and a majority of these adult gamers are buying for two...often times at their children's request. Even if the most skeptical of us don't give into the 8th installment of Call of Duty, the children will. They always do... and they're the whales for the gaming industry at the end of the day.

So what's the solution? Right now there are zero official advocacy groups for the gaming industry. Guys like Boogie2988 and TotalBiscuit preach about what we should do, but at the end of the day they have no power to force change (although I wish they did). One solution is creating a committee to stop the gaming industry from deceitful business practice, and penalizing them for doing so. That scares a lot of people thinking that a committee may just turn into a witch hunt on bad games, but we are beyond that point at this stage. We aren't getting "bad games" anymore, we are being given BROKEN GAMES. Broken games you bought for 60 dollars that the publisher is no longer accountable for once you purchase it.

Which brings us to a second solution, which may be the saving grace for gamers. Digital downloads have been on the rise, and for the first time, we can bypass the middle man and go straight to the source. This is awesome because now when a game doesn't work, it's not Gamestop giving you back your money, it's Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. How much longer do you think broken games will be hitting shelves when the console makers are serving refunds out of pocket to disgruntled gamers?

Here's my solution to how Gamers can protect ourselves against the gaming industry...

  1. We need regulations in effect that monitor the wrongdoings of game developers and when they are in violation of gamers' rights. When a game is broken and unplayable due to negligence on the developer's part, after a week's time it should be green lighted for return.
  2. When the green light is given, gamers who digitally purchased can receive a full refund for the unfinished game they purchased from the parent console it released on. This will force console makers to hold a higher standards for the games they release. Hopefully.
  3. Games improve. Ticker tape parades are held and stock prices skyrocket for the developers who legitimately make good games. Half Life 3 is confirmed for release.

We need government intervention. It has gotten that bad. Currently, all the gaming companies are protected from such a pipe dream like stated above to happen. In a billion dollar industry that I recently spent an easy 300 dollars (5 new games btw) supporting, that's a problem. We need intervention, and we need a voice that can actually do something, because we can't.

Watch Nicolas Cage overact in this new trailer for his upcoming adventure film Outcast. He plays "The White Ghost" in the film alongside Star Wars prequel trilogy star Hayden Christensen. The movie looks like it could be fun to watch. It's one of those movies that you'd want to watch with a group of friends. The over-the-top acting from Cage will only make the film that much more enjoyable!

The story begins when "the heir of the Imperial throne becomes the target of assassination by his despised older brother. The young prince’s only hope is the protection of his sister, and the reluctant aid of war-weary Crusader, Arken (Christensen), who must overcome his own personal demons and rally the assistance of the legendary Crusader-turned-bandit, Gallain (Cage), to return the prince to his rightful place on the throne."

The film was directed by Nick Powell from a screenplay by James Dormer, and it hits theaters and VOD February 6th.

Grotesque Love Story Short - HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME

If you don’t have a strong stomach, then you might want to pass on this short film. If you like the idea of a romantic film that tells the story of a man who takes his skin off for his girlfriend, then this is right up your alley! It’s probably not the best idea for anyone to take his or her skin off, but that's just how the guy in this story rolls. This short is kind of hard to watch because it’s pretty disgusting, but it’s a great and really well-made film. One of the things that makes it stand out is the fact that there were no CGI effects used to make it.

The movie was directed by Ben Aston, and here’s some information that came along with it:

He Took His Skin Off For Me is a practical SFX fairytale. No CGI whatsoever. Based on the short story by Maria Hummer it is my grad film from the London Film School. It took us 2 years, 217 Kickstarter backers and a whole lot of fake blood to pull off. SFX legend Colin Arthur (NeverEnding Story, 2001: A Space Odyssey) helped us achieve the impossible, allowing SFX Supervisor Jen Cardno and her team set a new standard for anatomical practical effects. Actor Sebastian Armesto (Anonymous, Pirates of the Caribbean) spent as long as 8hrs in makeup each day to bring this story to life. Alongside Anna Maguire (Saving Private Ryan, Parade's End) they both give us something wonderful, horrible and completely unique. I don’t want to tell people what the film should be. Even finding a genre to describe it is difficult. I want people to come to this film just like I came to the original story, completely unprepared.
If I can leave with one pearl of wisdom, though; if you take off your skin just to be with somebody? That’s only ever going to end messy…

What they achieved is a pretty incredible and unique, and it’s a very interesting and enjoyable viewing experience, so check it out! Thanks to the director for sending this over to us!

The Nominations for the Worst Movies of 2014 Are In!

the-nominations-for-the-worst-movies-of-2014-are-in

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced the nominations for the 35th annual Razzie Awards. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend of Hercules, and Transformers 4: Age of Ex-STINK-Tion are leading the nominations for worst movies of the year. The only name I don't think belongs on this list of nominations is Mel Gibson for his role in The Expendables 3, because he was freakin' awesome in that!

You can check out the full announcement below, followed by the nominations list. Look it over and let us know if you agree with what they claim is the worst of 2014.

Hollywood was not happy with box office returns for 2014, their lowest-grossing year in recent history. Despite a handful of high-grossing hits, there were way more major misses — movies based on recycled premises and re-worked concepts that were already tired a decade or more ago, the cinematic equivalent of re-treaded tires. Those are the films The Golden Raspberry Awards have annually “saluted” since 1980.
Nominees for the 35th Annual Razzie® Awards, satirizing the Worst Achievements in Film for 2014, include new names and several Repeat Offenders, returning for more pie-in-the-face/light-hearted joshing by the one Tinsel Town trophy derby no one sets out to win. And, in a new spin on the entire Razzie concept, this year launches a new category acknowledging that past nominees and “winners” can (and often do) go on to far far better things. Contenders for the inaugural Razzie Redeemer Award include Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Mike Myers, Keanu Reeves, and Kristen Stewart.
This year’s Worst Picture list features a big-grossing block-buster sequel, a muscle-headed dud, a critically drubbed remake, a reboot of a long-dead franchise, — and the film currently ranked as The Worst Movie of All Time on the IMDb’s Bottom 100 list. Performers up for the $4.79 gold-spray-painted trophy are a veritable Who’s Who of Hollywood Royalty.
For this year’s 10 regular Razzie categories, contenders and “winners” are determined by seeking online votes from 757 G.R.A.F. Members throughout 47 U.S. states and 19 foreign countries. For the 11th, new category, The Razzie Redeemer Award, the winner will be determined by a public vote by users at the popular movie review website Rotten Tomatoes.com. “Winners” in all categories will be announced on the now traditional date of “Oscar Eve”, at 8pm on Saturday February 21 at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood.
The Razzies were created in 1980 as the comical counterpoint to Tinsel Town’s annual glut of self-congratulatory awards by John Wilson, author of The Official Razzie Movie Guide and Everything I Know I Learned At The Movies.

28 MONTHS LATER is Being Discussed by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle

28-months-later-is-being-discussed-by-alex-garland-and-danny-boyle

I really enjoyed the zombie apocalypse films 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Danny Boyle directed the first film from a script written by Alex Garland, but they weren't really involved with the sequel other than being executive producers. For those of you who are also fans of the franchise, you'll be happy to hear that Garland and Boyle have been discussing a 28 Months Later sequel! Garland revealed the news in an interview with IGN, saying:

"We've got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated."

It's good to know that the conversations have been serious! That's a good sign, but the complications are not. So why is it complicated?

"There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility."

At least he's being optimistic and keeping that possibility alive. He goes on:

"It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years. 28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss."

So it does sound like there's a possibility that we could get one or two more films. I really hope they can work through whatever complications there are, so they can at least get one more movie made. I doubt Boyle would come back to direct it if it does happen, but it would be pretty rad if he did.

Review: Michael Mann's BLACKHAT Bytes

$
0
0

As a shadowy hacker causes a nuclear meltdown at a reactor in China, the camera dives into a series of wires and flies through the microscopic highways of a computer chip, lights indicating the 1s and 0s that are altered to trigger the disaster. It's a cheesy CGI moment reminiscent of something you'd see in a 1990s movie about hacking, and director Michael Mann uses the gimmick twice in the first ten minutes of Blackhat. Things do not get better from there.

A Chinese computer expert (Leehom Wang) teams with an American FBI agent (Viola Davis) to track the man responsible for the crime. The only man who can help them is Nick Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth), a convicted hacker serving a thirteen year prison sentence. Pulling Hathaway from prison, the gang begins trying to unravel artifacts of code left behind in order to pinpoint the identity of the hacker before he strikes again. This is essentially Mann's attempt at a Bond film, but without a lead character as interesting as 007 or a villain as captivating as any the Bond franchise produced. Mann is hobbled by a terrible script and actors who can't elevate the material, so Blackhat turns into a cluster of middling action scenes loosely connected by tedious dialogue and long stretches of the film that drag on for what feels like an eternity.

Mann, a visual stylist who directed what I consider to be the single most iconic film set in Los Angeles at night with 2004's Collateral, hasn't directed a movie since 2009's Public Enemies, and he seems to have forgotten how to stage even the simplest dialogue scene. This is a hideously ugly film, with nauseating cinematography that utilizes shaky cam at every opportunity and tight close-ups that fail to establish a coherent sense of geography, and it feels like the once-masterful storyteller has utterly lost his touch. If this is an example of what Michael Mann movies are going to be moving forward, I don't ever want to see one again.

Not helping matters is how Hemsworth is miscast as a super-intelligent badass. I generally think he's a passable actor, but watching him try to sound smart here just makes me appreciate how good he is at executing the blustery Shakespearean bravado of the Thor films. Blackhat also features what could end up being the least convincing love story of 2015. I realize we're currently only 14 days into this year, but I'm comfortable saying that this film will at least vie for that title come year's end, if not take it outright. Hathaway's relationship with a Chinese agent's sister is about as forced and cliche as it gets, and Wei Tang's performance as the love interest is so dull and disinterested that it removes all of the emotion from the pair. With no emotional stakes, the audience doesn't care what happens and can't get invested in the relationship, leaving us with nothing to do but sit there and hope that one of them dies so the story can get moving again.

In a film overflowing with problems, pacing may be Blackhat's biggest. It runs an excruciating two hours and fifteen minutes - not a terribly uncomfortable runtime for another film that actually deserves that length, but in this case, it's almost unbearable. There's no reason this film had to be this long, and it almost feels as if Mann was given an arbitrary length he had to hit and then stretched the footage as much as possible in the editing room in order to achieve it.

On multiple occasions, an exchange between two characters will come to an end, but the camera lingers on one subject as he crosses a room or heads for the door, only to cut to the next scene before he ever reaches that destination. The film is full of those kind of baffling editing choices, and it's mostly shot in excruciating close-up and often features distractingly out-of-sync dialogue, so I couldn't even fully engage with the few conversations I actually had some interest in following. The sound mix is all over the place, with some lines toned down to a whisper while the sound effects of gunshots and explosions are so loud they threaten to blow out the speakers. Even the score - which the credited composer recently said contains very little of the work he actually did for the film - is overbearing, headache-inducing nonsense.

Blackhat is bad, but the reason I'm so disappointed and frustrated with it is because Mann - hailed by many as one of our great modern filmmakers - has shown that he's capable of far better work than this. It always pains me to see a film with unrealized potential, and there's a version of Blackhat that's a complex, globe-spanning mystery that competently tackles the very real threat of how technology can be used against us by those who manipulate it for their own gain. This is not that movie.

Rumor: Big Spoilers for Marvel's CIVIL WAR & INFINITY WAR, and Spider-Man Deal is Done

big-spoilers-for-marvels-civil-war-infinity-war-and-spider-man-deal-is-done

Thanks to our friends at Latino Review, we have some potentially mind-blowing details for what we will see happen in Captain America: Civil WarAvengers: Infinity War, and more. The details also include the inclusion of Spider-Man. The deal between Marvel and Sony has reportedly gone through.

I will tell you right off the bat that there are some major SPOILERS ahead. Latino Review is always pretty spot on with the intel they get, but until there's confirmation, we will still treat it as a rumor.

Before we begin, though, they make it very clear that Andrew Garfield will not be a part of any future Spider-Man deal. (There have been some rumors that Garfield would appear in a movie with Tobey Maguire also reprising his role as the web-slinger, but those seemingly aren't true.)

Now on to the meat of the article...SPOILERS ahead for what might happen at the end of two of the Phase 3 movies. Seriously if you read ahead don't get mad at me, you've been warned.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will introduce a new group of Avengers that will be lead by Captain America, and there's still speculation that Hulk is going to be shot out into space. (Even though Marvel has denied it, I really do hope we get to see Planet Hulk on the big screen eventually.)

We will learn in Captain America: Civil War that Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, killed Howard Stark, which will lead to a major fight between Iron Man and Captain America. Crossbones will be back for Civil War, and at the end of the film he kills Steve Rogers, and apparently it's going to leave the audience with a big cliffhanger because the Iron Man and Captain America we've all grown to love will not be around as much moving forward. They do say that they're "pretty sure" Iron Man "can’t be flitting in and out of other Phase 3 movies without reducing the impact of his future return, let’s just say he’ll also be in space."

When it comes to Doctor Strange, they speculate that the character will led the new Avengers team in Captain America's absence.

The report goes on to say that Thor: Ragnarok will kill a lot of Asgardians, which we already heard. Of course, some of them will be resurrected, and at the end of the movie Thor will end up in some sort of “galactic prison.”

When the Black Panther film rolls around, we are going to find out a lot more about The Winter Soldier’s "dirty laundry."  They speculate that there could be more Avengers involved with the Black Panther movie than the title suggests.

"The mystic nature of the Black Panther also allows Strange to pop up here if they want. But a New Avengers is being formed (not THE New Avengers from the comics, just SOME New Avengers)."

By the time Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1 comes around, Steve Rogers is dead, Thor is in prison and will not be in the movie, but Spider-Man will be in the movie because they say the deal with Sony Picture has gone through! How freakin' cool is that!

"I’m told we’ll see an MCU Spider-Man in Infinity Wars Part 1, as that was the next logical place to insert him after they missed the window to logically include him in Civil War."

The Avengers line-up for Infinity War Part 1 is still in the discussion phase, but it will be the first film to feature a whole new set of Avengers. Some of the potential team members include Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jewel/Power Woman, and "ANY of the New Inhumans, ANY of the classic Inhumans, a of the Guardians of the Galaxy and ANY Cosmic Marvel characters Guardians chooses to send to Earth...oh, and Spider-Man."

In Infinity War Part 2, all of the Avengers are said to return - including Steve Rogers, who is freakin' dead! Not sure how that will work, but that's what they say!

Good grief, Marvel has a lot going on and a long road ahead of them. There's so much cool stuff here to speculate about, and I can't wait to see how the story will all play out on the big screen! It's insanely exciting!

Watch: Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson Discuss Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN

It's rare when people in the entertainment industry actually speak their minds when they have something negative to say about a film - even one that's more than five years old - because the industry is so tight-knit that most people are afraid of offending someone they might work with in the future.

That's why it's refreshing to see Patton Oswalt give his take on Zack Snyder's Watchmen with one of the stars of the movie sitting right next to him. Oswalt was in New Jersey promoting his new book ("Silver Screen Fiend"), and he was joined by actor Patrick Wilson. Screencrush points us to a video of a Q&A discussion in which someone asks Patton about his thoughts on the film, and the two offer their opposing views on Snyder's controversial superhero movie. Granted, Oswalt doesn't exactly rip the film apart, but he makes some good points, and it's fascinating to hear Wilson's take on it as someone who was working on the movie. Check it out below, and let us know who you agree with in the comments.

Blood-Soaked Gameplay Trailer for MORTAL KOMBAT X Reveals More Playable Characters

When I was in elementary school, I remember hearing adults freak out about the violence in the original Mortal Kombat video game. If those same people saw this new trailer for Mortal Kombat X, they'd vomit instantaneously.

The trailer reveals that Kung Lao, Kitana, and Goro will all be playable characters - although you have to pre-order the game to be able to play as Goro.

I played these games occasionally when I was growing up (I was decent at the GameCube version), but it wasn't until I saw this new gameplay trailer that I wondered if maybe this series has finally gone too far with its violence. Did anyone else have sort of a gross, sinking feeling in their stomachs as they watched this trailer? I never really had a problem with the ridiculous fatalities or any of the gore in the series before, but I think the scene of a guy having his face sliced by a buzzsaw and chopped to shreds by Kitana's fan blades might be (and I realize how insane this sounds) getting a bit too realistic. Realistic may be the wrong word - I think "visceral" is what I'm going for. Maybe I'm just not cut out for the gore of this franchise anymore. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Mortal Kombat X arrives on Xboxes, PlayStations 3 and 4 and PC on April 14.

DC Developing Animated BATMAN VS. ROBIN Film, Voice Cast Revealed

DC Entertainment has been developing a new animated film project called Batman Vs. Robin, and thanks to THR we have some information on the film and the voice cast, which features a good mix of newcomers and old favorites.

DC and Warner Bros. have been doing a solid job with the animated features they've been releasing lately. They are consistent with the scheduling as well, which is great. It's one animated film after another, and the fans seem to be loving it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice storyboard artist Jay Oliva is directing this new film, and the story will revolve around a "secret society dating back to the early days of Gotham City that kidnapped children and raised them to be assassins."

As for who will be providing voices for characters in the movie, we have Jason O'Mara (Sons of Liberty) returning as Batman; Stuart Allen (Bad Teacher) as Robin; Sean Maher (Arrow) coming back for Nightwing; David McCallum (NCIS) as Alfred; Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under) as Talon; voice actor Grey Griffin as a mysterious character known only as Samantha; Al Yankovic as The Dollmaker; Robin Atkin Downes (Superman vs. The Elite) as Grandmaster; Peter Onorati voices a character named Draco; and last but not least, Kevin Conroy will cameo as Thomas Wayne.

Batman Vs. Robin will be finished in time to have its world premiere at WonderCon 2015, which runs April 3rd to the 5th in Anaheim .

8-Bit STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Teaser Trailer

I love the 8-bit aesthetic of classic video games. While this pixel animated Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer is really more like 16-bit, it's still well done. Animator Mauri Helme released this video a month ago and I'm surprised it took this long for it to get discovered.

Lord & Miller Say a JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK Crossover is Still Possible

One of the pieces of news that leaked out during the Sony hack was that the studio was considering a crossover between their Jump Street franchise and Men in Black, outfitting Schmidt and Jenko as new MIB agents. It's an idea that's just crazy enough to work, as long as it's in the hands of Jump Street writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Things have quieted down a little, but in a new interview with MTV, the directors say that option is still on the table.

Lord: “Nothing’s changed. It’s still a crazy idea, and we only do things that seem like they’re going to be terrible. We’re really focusing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time.”
Miller: "We’re developing a lot of things, you know. And they may or may not all happen, but that’s how the business works.”

After completely railing against the concept of sequels in 22 Jump Street (especially during those fantastic end credits), it seems like Lord and Miller will have to think pretty far outside of the box to creatively justify a 23 Jump Street. Maybe this crossover is exactly what they need to take things to another level.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE Recreated in GRAND THEFT AUTO

Several iconic scenes from Stanley Kubrick's classic insane thriller A Clockwork Orange have been awesomely recreated in Grand Theft Auto Online. It comes from GTA Series Videos, and it took around a dozen people to make. It's pretty amazing to see how close they were able to bring certain scenes to life in GTA video game form, and they even included the audio from the movie and stuck it in the video. A Clockwork Orange was such a demented film, which is why it meshes together so well with such a demented game. Enjoy!
