Honest Trailer for Michael Bay’s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

I not only refused to pay to see director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I skipped a free screening I was invited to as well. I had the tiniest glimmer of hope for the film after seeing some footage early on, but the progressively dull trailers and the dismal reviews around the release of the movie let me know quickly that this wasn’t worth my time. I’ll gladly spend 5-minutes with Screen Junkies, though, as they rip the film apart and spoil every convoluted change to the origins of the turtles. They also let a child chime in and point out that the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies we grew up with weren’t that great either, a sentiment they’ve covered quite thoroughly in their Honest Trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze.

COSMIC STAR HEROINE - PS Vita Alpha Footage

Sony has made it clear they are on board to support indie games with this console generation, and with releases on the PS4 and Vita, they have been sticking to their word. As the Vita has become my go-to system for JRPGs, I’m happy to see both coming together in harmony. That’s right, the super-retro geniuses at Zeboyd Games are working on a fantastical new space adventure that is coming to the Playstation Store. Some of this small studio's most notable releases include Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World. And their newest crowd funded title is Cosmic Star Heroine, a pixel-art RPG inspired by classics like Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Star.

Zeboyd Games just released a 30-minute video of them playing through the alpha demo that was available at the Playstation Experience earlier this month, and it looks amazing! So give it a watch and let me know what you think of it. I know I’ll be picking it up on my Vita.

Finally! A Sweded Trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

It’s been nearly a month since the teaser for J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens dropped. Since then, we’ve seen numerous parodies of the trailer, from shot-for-shot recreations using LEGO or footage from the original trilogies, to spoofs from Saturday Night Live and Seth MacFarlane, as well as a George Lucas “Special Edition” parody. Now someone finally had the cardboard-cutting-know-how/the balls to do a live-action sweded version of the trailer. Dumb Drum, the guys behind the Avengers: Age of Ultron swede we posted last month, stepped up to the plate and put together this fantastic shot-for-shot remake of The Force Awakens teaser. I’ve also included the side-by-side comparison video below.

Thanks to the Dumb Drum for sending this in to us!

Jump Festa 2014 Brings Trailer and News for Final Fantasy Type-0, XV, and Heavensward

Aside from the event having an awesome name, SquareEnix's Jump Festa debuted new trailers for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy XIV. Type-0 HD focuses on the more mature and sacrifice focused narrative, as well as giving a glimpse of the combat in action. The varied ways you can dispatch foes looks promising, but the closer look at combat does make it apparent that the game is a remaster, and because of that the graphics are a bit underwhelming. It won't take away from my enjoyment of the game, but it is apparent as the trailer goes on.

Next we have FFXV, and it continues to impress. The combat looks fluid, and the graphics are damn impressive. Oh, and Cid's a woman, which is awesome, though that outfit is just, wow. We couldn't at least give her pants? Those aren't even shorts, more like a bandanna with a belt. Attire issues aside, I'm excited to play the demo, and hopefully Cid's personality is more fleshed out than her wardrobe.

Rounding out the Final Fantasy related news is some new information on the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion Heavensward. Here is a rundown of the new additions from the official press release:

  • The introduction of a brand-new playable race, the Au Ra
  • New Job: Astrologian (Healer role) Astrologians channel celestial magicks through their star globe in order to heal others and make use of a divining deck to support their fellow party members
  • New Job: Machinist (DPS role) Machinists wield firearms to deal damage from afar and employ turret-like weaponry on the battlefield to create further mayhem
  • The reveal of the next major raid challenge that awaits adventurers, the mechanical fortress Alexander
  • An announcement that Nobuo Uematsu would be composing theHeavensward main theme
  • Details regarding the Heavensward Collector’s Edition were also announced. The package will feature:
    • A dragon figurine
    • An art book
    • A disc featuring various videos and trailers
    • Digital in-game items exclusive to the Collector’s Edition: a griffin flying mount, a helmet designed after FFIV’s dark knight Cecil, and a wind-up Kain minion

Lots of great news for RPG and Square Fans, and if you're interested make sure to scroll down for some screens.

The ability to draw a planet is insignificant next to the artistic power of Olly Moss. Don’t think Moss can conjure up Darth Vader’s menacing image using an X-Wing as his face? I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Be sure to check out more of the artist’s work on his websiteThanks to Xombiedirge for the find.

STAR TREK 3 Has a Release Date

Not long ago we reported that Fast and Furious director Justin Lin will be taking on the challenge of directing Star Trek 3. There seem to be mixed reactions from fans regarding the choice. Hopefully he has what it takes to deliver another kick-ass movie that we can enjoy.

Variety is now reporting that Paramount Pictures plans to release the film on July 8th, 2016. This will mark the 50th anniversary of the franchise, which launched on NBC September 8th, 1966.

Even though I'm not completely on board with Lin, directing the movie, he's still probably a better choice than Roberto Orci, who has never directed a film. I'm looking forward to seeing what space adventure they tell this time around.

I’ve never been a big fan of gingerbread, but I’ve gotta admit this gingerbread model of the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek is pretty incredible. I’m really impressed with the detail, and it’s definitely the coolest thing made out of gingerbread that I’ve seen. The starship is on display at the Blackmarket Bakery in Costa Mesa, California.

James Gunn Clarifies AVENGERS and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Crossover Comments

It seems like a lot of fans are misinterpreting James Gunn's recent comments regarding The Avengers crossing over with Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the things he said comes from an interview with Comic Vine, in which he said the following:

"The last thing I said was something about how the Guardians, we really are mostly focused on creating the Guardians as their own separate universe, creating the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. It isn't all about leading towards Avengers. We're not subservient to The Avengers. Whether or not at some point, some Guardians and some Avengers meet up and meet somewhere in the world, whether it's two years from now, three years from now, four years from now, fifteen years from now… I'm not going to say. But Guardians of the Galaxy does not exist as a prequel to Avengers 3 and 4. They have their own thing that they're involved in. They have their own mythos that they're involved in. They have their own stories that are equally important."

Gunn clarified this statement in great detail on his Facebook page because apparently a lot of people didn't quite get what he was trying to say.

"Woke up the other day to two articles - one that announced I said the Avengers and the Guardians were never teaming up, another that said I said they were. These two articles were based ON THE SAME INTERVIEW (the podcast with Jeff Goldsmith). The truth is, I never said either of those things. I'm not going to tell anyone what happens to the Guardians, especially two or three movies down when who even knows if I'll be around anymore. Whatever the case, there's been a lot of anger around me - at me, from people defending me at others, and so on. And it's all people who love Marvel, like me, and just want to see awesome and amazing and moving stories.

"There are many more important things going on in the world right now, but this is clogging up my feed, so let me do my best to set the record straight. Perhaps sometimes I say things imperfectly, unclearly, or inelegantly. All I've ever tried to say was the Guardians are an important part of the MCU, and they definitely share an existence with the Avengers and other characters in the MCU. But the week after the movie opened I walked into the Marvel offices, and I sat down with Kevin Feige and some of the other folks at Marvel. We had a long discussion about where the Guardians were headed and what was happening to them. I told them exactly what I wanted to do with the sequel to Guardians, and everyone was on board and excited. And, regarding the bigger picture, we all agreed on one thing, and that was to keep huge chunks of the Guardians separate from the Marvel heroes of earth, because they have a whole galaxy to explore. We wanted to use them as a way to make the MCU bigger, not smaller. We wanted to make sure they have their own mythos, as opposed to only one that is intertwined with the earthbound characters. They ARE connected, of course, but that connection would not be the purpose of their stories and fictional lives.
"When I'm asked about the Guardians and their future, and whether they'll meet up with the Avengers I really don't have all that much to say, because some of it isn't decided yet, and I don't want to give away what is decided. So I speak in these general terms. They aren't things that I'm just saying on the spot, and they aren't things that have been decided on by me alone. But they are sometimes incredibly general, and that can lead to those words being taken in a lot of different ways. So, I'm sorry for all the different ways my words have been taken. Overall, we'll just have to wait and see where the Guardians go, who they meet, and what they do in the MCU. But know that I love them and will take the best care of them I possibly can for as long as I'm around.

"MORE IMPORTANTLY, I'm getting a lot of questions about the AA batteries in Quill's Walkman, and how Quill's Walkman can survive for so long.

"GUYS, THEY HAVE THE ALIEN TECHNOLOGY TO TRAVEL FASTER THAN LIGHT BETWEEN PLANETS, I think they can figure out an alternative power source for the Walkman, and they likely also have technology to slow the degradation to the tape and player. This seems obvious to me.

"Please be respectful in the comments below or I'll have to block you. Sorry ahead of time.
"Happy holidays, James"

I love that Gunn interacts with his fans like this, and the fact that he went out of his way to clarify  the previous comments he made is pretty rad. Not a lot of directors do that kind of thing.

Bill Gates Gives Redditor a Loki Helmet in Secret Santa Gift Exchange

I'm admittedly not the biggest user of Reddit so I was completely surprised that they have a Secret Santa gift exchange. Redditor Calid7 had Bill Gates as her Secret Santa, and boy did he come through in a big way. Her “pie in the sky” wish was for a Loki replica helmet, which Gates got her and much more.

Cali, a.k.a. Calid7, describing her experience:

I can not believe it. I am literally shaking right now I AM IN SHOCK (someone get me a blanket!).

The amazing human being Bill Gates sent me a Loki Helmet which i have been dying to own ever since the first Thor movie came out!! He read my "pie in the sky wish" that i filled out in my questionnaire and fulfilled it! I also got an amazing coffee table book of gorgeous pictures of Africa (somewhere i desperately want to go, its on my bucket list!) with an inscription and a Giant microbes polio virus stuffed animal!

The Helmet actually arrived with the horns cracked :( but i'm pretty sure i can find a way to fix it! :D

The most important part is, He also made a donation in my name to Shot@Life a great program that provides vaccines for kids in poor countries which is SO amazing and i can't even begin to describe how incredible it makes me feel knowing that he made this donation in my name! I always donate what i can for charities, which is never much cause money is always extremely tight, it really makes me glow!

I will have to post pictures tomorrow i'm too shaky right now to take any good pictures!!!!

Well done, Mr. Gates. And a big congratulations to Calid7. Merry Christmas everyone.

HBO has released a promo video that recaps their year of 2014 greatness, and it also includes a sneak peek of what is to come in 2015. Some of that includes our first real footage of Game of Thrones Season 5! It’s around 5 seconds of exciting footage that offers a glimpse of Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Arya Stark, and Jon Snow.

The preview also highlights some of their other series such as Veep with Hugh Laurie. Then there’s the adaptation of Michael Crichton’s sci-fi thriller Westworld, which looks spooky and awesome. It sure is going to be a glorious day when Game of Thrones returns to HBO! That will likely happen sometime in spring.

Mark Ruffalo on AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and Banner's Role in Ultron's Creation

Mark Ruffalo has offered up some really interesting information regarding Bruce Banner's role in working along side Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In an interview with Total Film the actor reveals that he also had a hand in the creation of the villain Ultron.

"Banner's been living in Stark Tower. They've been working side by side and Bruce has his own lab now. He's doing work that augments Tony's own, which could lead to an experiment going wrong."

I knew those guys would get themselves into trouble. The decisions they make together lead them to eventually fighting each other, and friends like that aren't supposed to fight. He also talks about his deepening relationship with Black Widow:

"His relationship with Natasha deepens. There's something similar about the two of them. I see them as lost souls. They're kindred in some ways."

As for what's in store for the Hulk, the actor says,

"He does feel more comfortable with himself. His confidence is getting better. But, you know, that gets shaken. His ability to handle the Hulk really gets thrown into question in this film. The hard part is coming back. Hulk doesn't want to cede his place. It's much harder to come back from being Hulk than it is to get into him."
"I think there's a whole other chapter we haven't seen yet where you find the other nuances within him. The battle of identity going on between him and Banner is all about establishing dominance. The only thing that Hulk is really afraid of is Banner. That's an interesting dynamic."

I'm glad that this is a dynamic of the character that they are exploring in this film. It's something we haven't really seen done previously. We've heard that the Hulk is going to have a much more prominent role in the film, and now we know more about his story arc in it. Ruffalo then goes on to explain that even though the movie looks dark, there will be humor:

"What Joss is going after is really big. But there's still lots of laughs. There's some goofy stuff. I mean, it's Whedon!"

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out on May 1st, 2015.

Bane Kicks Ass Making Christmas Sugar Cookies

It looks like Bane has taken a holiday break from trying to kill Batman to make some sugar cookies for Christmas, and it looks like he's kicking ass at it. The art comes from Bane Thursdays, and it came along with the following caption:

"This holiday season, Christmas cookies are Bane’s allies."

While we are on the subject of sugar cookies, I should probably give a little shout out to my mom, who seriously makes the best sugar cookies on the planet. If she were to battle Bane in a bakeoff, she would win. Hell, she would probably win if she battled him in an actual fight.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Sony Pictures has confirmed that starting at 10am Pacific time today, you will be able to rent James Franco and Seth Rogen's comedy The Interview on YouTube, Google Play, and Xbox for only $5.99. You will also have the option to buy it for $14.99 which is pretty much the cost of admission for seeing a movie here in Los Angeles. There's also an official website that has been set up for anyone who may not have access to those services. There have been talks of the film being made available on Netflix in the next few days as well, but there's no confirmation of that yet. It's good to see that Sony didn't let the hackers win. Enjoy the movie! Hopefully it was worth all the insanity.

Jenna Coleman Signs Up for Another Season of DOCTOR WHO

Over the last several months there was a lot of speculation that Jenna Coleman wouldn't return as Clara Oswald in the next season of BBC's sci-fi series Doctor Who. Turns out that she will be staying on for another season. In an interview with the BBC, she said,

"It's wonderful. I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor and I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved.
"There is so much more to do. I think they've finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.
"The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up."

Peter Capaldi added,

"I'm thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with."

Last season wasn't my favorite. I never really got into like I did in past seasons. One of the problems I had with it was the chemistry between Coleman and Capaldi. It just never seemed to click for me. But maybe Clara feeling more comfortable in the relationship with The Doctor will make things work better. I hope next season is better than the last. I did enjoy the Christmas episode, though.

Are you happy to here that Clara will be back for some more adventures?

Amusingly Violent Coffee 1950s Commercials Created by Jim Henson

amusingly-violent-coffee-1950s-commercials-created-by-jim-henson

You've got to check out this wonderful collection of coffee commercials that were made by Jim Henson back in the 1950s. These are for the Wilkins coffee brand, and they are kind of disturbing in how amusingly violent they are. The commercials starred two puppets, and when one refused to drink the coffee, the other puppet would hit him in the head, shoot him, drown him, slit his throat, and torture him in all kinds of different ways. These make me appreciate Henson's talents even more. They just don't make coffee commercials like this anymore.

Teaser Trailer for THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!

ITV has released a brief teaser trailer for their upcoming live action/CGI hybrid series Thunderbirds Are Go! There's no footage of the characters in the teaser, just a distress call and a glimpse at the redesigned Thunderbird 5. It also points fans to the official Thunderbirds.com website, where you can learn more about the upcoming reboot of the 1965 series.

The special effects in the series were done by Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop. I haven't seen the original series in years, but it was fun to watch. I know there's not much to see in this teaser, but I think this could be a great reboot if it's done right. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Below you'll find some additional details about the upcoming series.

Fifty years after its television debut the iconic series is back in production featuring a talented cast led by Rosamund Pike (The World’s End, Gone Girl) as Lady Penelope and David Graham (Thunderbirds 1965) reprising his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker.
Debuting on ITV in 2015 this re-invention of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s much-loved series will be produced using an innovative mix of CGI animation and live-action miniature sets.
Unstoppable inventor Brains will be voiced by Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker, Facejacker) whilst Tracy brothers Gordon and John are both played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Game of Thrones). Rasmus Hardiker (Saxondale, Lead Balloon) has been cast as both the youngest and oldest Tracy brothers Alan and Scott. The fifth Tracy brother, Virgil, will be played by David Menkin. Tracy Island matriarch Grandma Tracy is voiced by Sandra Dickinson (Amazing World of Gumball, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and master villain The Hood played by Andres Williams (M.I. High, Foyle’s War).
Plus Thunderbirds Are Go! will feature new characters including Kayo, the Tracy brothers’ friend and fellow island resident, who will be played by Angel Coulby (Merlin, Dancing on the Edge) and Colonel Casey voiced by Adjoa Andoh (Invictus, Doctor Who).

Now, check out the teaser!

THE INCREDIBLE HULK - Lonely Hulk Supercut

NBC Classics has released this amusingly heartbreaking video supercut that focuses on David Banner/Hulk's saddest and loneliest moments as the Incredible Hulk. These clips are taken from the original live-action TV series that starred Bill Bixby as Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk. The video is called "Green is the New Blue," and Banner was just one depressed dude. I loved this series!

Roberto Orci Confirms He Will Not Write STAR TREK 3

Star Trek franchise writer Roberto Orci has confirmed through Trek Movie that he will not be writing the script for Star Trek 3. After he dropped out of the film as director, we heard he would still be writing the script and producing, but he clarified his involvement with the movie saying, "I’m producing, nothing more or less."

He also took the opportunity to defend the alternate Star Trek timeline that he helped to create for the continuing adventures.

"Stop blaming BR (Bad Robot). It was my idea so that you would not know what was gonna happen next. Nothing more or less. I stand behind it. And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t."

Seems like he's a bit frustrated at the moment. As you know, he was recently replaced as the director of the film by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious franchise). I'm not sure what this means for the story that Orci has been developing, but in a previous interview, he explained,

"In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie.  So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space."

There was a rumor that one of the reasons why Orci may have stepped away from the project was because Paramount Pictures executives wanted the movie to be more like Guardians of the Galaxy. This is something that the majority of fans seem very against, and hopefully the studio dosen't go that route. They should just make a Star Trek movie.

Star Trek 3 is set to be released on July 8th, 2016.
