T.R. Knight Joins Jackie Robinson Biopic

Legendary Pictures doesn't only make movies about fake superheroes, giant monsters, and crazy guys getting drunk - they also shine the spotlight on real heroes. Such is the case with the upcoming Jackie Robinson biopic 42, which will star Chadwick Boseman as the first African-American to play professional major league baseball. It's fitting that one day after the 65th anniversary of Jackie Robinson Day in the real life big leagues (a day when all players wear the number 42 to honor Robinson's achievement), we've got another actor that's joined the cast.

The Hollywood Reporter says Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight will play Harold Parrott, "the Dodgers traveling secretary who has to deal with the repercussions of housing once Robinson joins the team." Knight joins an impressive cast that already includes Harrison Ford as the man who signs Robinson to the team, and The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal as the pitcher of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Luck of the Irish and Final Destination 3 star Ryan Merriman also has a part.

Robinson breaking the color barrier in professional sports is an achievement that deserves to be explored on film, and thanks to Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (who is also directing), it looks like we're going to get a really great interpretation of those events when 42 hits theaters in 2013. Are you looking forward to seeing another sports biopic on the big screen? What's your favorite baseball movie?

First Look at Aaron Eckhart as The Creature in I, FRANKENSTEIN

$

Here's our first look at Aaron Eckhart on the set of the Stuart Beattie (Screenwriter of Pirates of the Caribbean films, 30 Days of Night, Collateral and more) directed film I, Frankenstein. The film is based on a comic book created by Kevin Grevioux, but Eckhart is channeling into Mary Shelley's original novel as inspiration for the character. I love the look of his character, you can hardly tell that it's Eckhart. The movie looks and sounds like it's going to be an entertaining monster flick. It also stars Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski and Mirando Otto

The story is a gothic, modern-day fantasy thriller that tells the story of the original monster of Victor Frankenstein, who stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world. The film will involve several monsters of classic lore, such as like vampires, werewolves, mummies, goblins, ghosts, things of that nature. The movie's also been described as being a straight-forward action film that's going to raise eyebrows.

I, Frankenstein hits theaters on February 22nd, 2013. What do you think of Eckhart's look in these images?

Must Watch PROMETHEUS Viral Ad - Happy Birthday David

The viral marketing campaign for Ridley Scott's Prometheus continues with this fantastic new video featuring Michael Fassbender as the android David. Androids have always played a big part in the Alien universe that Scott created. In the first film we had Ash played by Ian Holm, Aliens had Bishop played by Lance Henrickson and even Winowna Ryder played one named Call. Now we have the android David.

Welcome to the eighth generation of cybernetic advancement. The new David 8 has been re-imagined, re-engineered and brought to life with better technological, intellectual, physical and emotional performance than ever before.

In the first viral video we saw for this movie Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) did a TED Talk discussing the massive technological advances made in the future in which the story is set. That included the creation of artificial intelligence. In this latest video we witness the birth of the very first android, and Fassbender is awesome in it!

Synopsis:

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.

Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Here's a fantastically cool series of re-designed poster art for some classic films created by artist Alain Bossuyt. I enjoy finding different artists' interpretations of movie posters like this. Some of the films included in this series are Jaws, Soylent Green, Psycho, Duel, Raider of the Lost Ark, The Birds, Them, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and a couple of James Bond movies. Look over the posters and rank your top three favorite movies from them.

I'd like to see some more of these fun Star Wars poster concepts. I love the tag lines used in the poster as well. Do you have any ideas for a Star Wars B-Horror film?

PLASTIC GALAXY: The Story of Star Wars Toys - Documentary Teaser Trailer

$

When I was growing up I was a huge collector of Star Wars toys. I used to go to the stores and wait outside before they opened to try and get the figures I needed for my collection. I still have multiple boxes full of unopened Star Wars action figures from those days. I don't collect toys as much as I used to, mostly because it's an expensive hobby, and I can't afford it anymore. It was fine back in the day when I didn't have to pay rent and bills. Growing up and becoming responsible ruined everything!

Here's the trailer to a great looking new documentary centered around Star Wars toys called Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys, which is currently being developed by Brian Stillman. It dives into the world of Star Wars toys and collectibles, which I use to be a part of. I just wish I would have taken better care of my original Star Wars toys as a kid, I'm not sure what made me want to set them up and shoot them all with a BB gun.

Here's the synopsis:

Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys is a new documentary that explores the groundbreaking and breathtaking world of Star Wars toys. Through interviews with former Kenner employees, experts, authors, and collectors, the film examines the toys’ history, their influence on pop culture, and the fond and fervent feelings they elicit today.

The documentary's creator is trying to raise funds for his film through Kickstarter and is planing to release it on DVD on August 23rd, 2012. Check out the teaser trailer and let us know if you are a collector of Star Wars toys!

HALO 4 gets an Official Release Date!

Microsoft has officially announced today that Halo 4 will be released on the Xbox 360 on November 6th, 2012. And that, my friends, will be a glorious day!

As a fan of the Halo video game franchise I couldn't be more excited about the upcoming Halo 4 game being developed by 343 Industries. I remember at one point we didn't think we would ever see another Halo game, thankfully that isn't the case. Bungie may not be developing it this time around, but it still is looking like a solidly badass game.

Here's the full announcement with all of the details:

The countdown has begun for the landmark entertainment event millions of fans worldwide have been anticipating for more than four years. "Halo 4," the hotly anticipated sequel to the iconic franchise that has shaped entertainment history, will launch worldwide on Nov. 6, 2012.

“Halo 4” marks the return of legendary hero Master Chief, named by Fast Company as “one of the most popular characters in gaming history,” and aims to set a new standard for blockbuster interactive entertainment with the launch. Set four years after the events in “Halo 3,” Master Chief returns to confront his destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. Developed by 343 Industries, “Halo 4” marks a new beginning for the landmark entertainment franchise that has sold more than 40 million games worldwide and inspired multiple New York Times best-selling novels, live-action shorts, comic books, action figures and apparel.

“We are beginning a new saga with ‘Halo 4’ and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of ‘Halo’ games and experiences,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. “Millions of fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to step back into the boots of Master Chief, and, with ‘Halo 4’ leading the charge, we’re confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history.”

“Halo 3,” the biggest consumer product launch of all time when it released in 2007,2 concluded the original game trilogy, but left many unanswered questions around the fates of the series’ beloved hero, the Master Chief, and his artificial intelligence companion, Cortana. On Nov. 6, fans will experience the next chapter of the iconic franchise.

Tonight, Conan O’Brien will help celebrate this fall’s launch of “Halo 4” with a special segment on “CONAN” on TBS at 11 p.m. PDT/10 p.m. CDT. Those interested should tune in and check out http://www.teamcoco.com or follow @TeamCoco on Twitter for updates and more details.

James Bond SKYFALL - Set Video of Rooftop Motorcycle Chase

Here's some awesome video footage from the set of Sam Mendes' James Bond movie Skyfall, showing a rooftop motorcycle chase scene. The behind the scenes footage comes from the local media in Turkey where the movie is currently shooting. This is the same location where they will be shooting the epic motorcycle/train stunt that was originally set to be shot in India. It's looking like there is going to be a lot of motorcycle stunt awesomeness in the movie. But as we all know, stunts come at a cost. Reuters reported on a recent accident with one of the motorcycle stuntmen:

A stuntman in the new James Bond film "Skyfall" now shooting in Istanbul lost control of his motorcycle and smashed into the window of a 330-year-old shop in the city's 15th-century Grand Bazaar, Turkish media said on Monday.

The stuntman swerved to avoid hitting extras while careering through the Grand Bazaar at high speed, the NTV news channel said, but then crashed into the jewellery shop and smashed its crystal glass window.

Ouch! But, in the end it will all look great up on the big screen! Check out the set footage below. You know if Tom Cruise was playing James Bond he'd want to do his own stunts like he does for Mission: Impossible. I'm not knocking on Craig, I love the guy as Bond, I'm just sayin'... If you were an actor in an action film like this would you want to do your own stunts, or would you let someone else take the risk for you?

Marc Webb Talks about Spider-Man Being a Bully and More

$

The Amazing Spider-Man director, Marc Webb, has been doing some interviews recently in which he's discussed his awesome looking new film.

We normally don't see our superheroes as bullys, but did you see that recent clip of Spider-Man messing around with a mugger? He was kind of being a dick to him wasn't he? Well, that's because this Spider-Man has a little bit of a bully attitude. This was intentional, and Webb explains why...

I think it comes down to everything having to emerge from a real place. The reason why Spider-Man is being so playful in that moment is that as a character, he's feeling drunk on his power. He's having a really good time. He's becoming a bit of a bully there. He's not being deeply altruistic, and that's something you'll learn more about when you see the movie. It's a reflection of his attitude: He puts that mask on and the shy kid is gone. He's now this really empowered superhero. That means having fun, sometimes at other people's expense ... You get to see and do whatever you want without any personal consequences. There's a danger to that ... but there's a thrill to it too.

I can relate to that as a blogger. I think most bloggers can relate to that for the fact we can be a little bit more bold if we want to poke fun at someone like, lets say... Brett Ratner. It's just a little bit more fun doing it behind a mask. There's also the possibility that if Ratner wanted to hunt me down and TRY to beat the hell of me, he could. So there's the dangerous thriller aspect of it.  So it kind of makes sense that a shy kid like Peter Parker would take advantage of his new found power. Webb continues to discuss why this character is relatable,

[W]hat stayed with me and haunted me was the idea that this character is so intensely relatable: He's a superhero who's just a kid. He's not a billionaire, not an alien. His normal identity is so ordinary in so many ways, and so relatable, and that's something about Marvel that I always liked. They made the teenagers the superheroes: the X-Men and Spider-Man, whereas [teens] were just the sidekicks in DC Comics. I think it was at a time in your life when you're starting to access these stories and mythologies that make the wish-fulfillment component much more intense. I know I have a 17-year-old boy trapped inside of me forever, and that's something with an instant appeal.

Yeah, I completely agree with Webb on how most of us will be able to relate to this character. Do you think Webb's version of Parker sounds more relatable than Raimi's version of Parker?

In a seperate interview with Yahoo! Movies Webb discussed some more aspects of the film. I've included a few excerpts below, but you can read the full interview here.

On Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s chemistry:

We screen tested them together, and she's very funny and really quick and snappy. I remember the first time we screen tested them -- I don't think they'd met before, really -- and it took a minute for him to get back up to speed with her because she was so funny. And then they really brought out really great parts of the other's performance. Of course, it was there, and that's why we cast that dynamic. It was really great to watch it on screen.

On Parker being in High School:

There's an adolescent quality to a lot of the "Spider-Man" [comics] that I liked, that is really important in terms of the DNA of the character.  He's like an imperfect guy.  You know what [I] mean? He is a kid, and he's always kind of making mistakes, and he is not so sure about himself all the time.  I felt like the authentic place to start that was in high school. And I think there's something about the way you feel about the world at that age that makes things much more raw, and I thought that was really fun to explore more cinematically.

Here he discusses the trickiest element of Spider-Man's world from the comics to capture on screen:

To create something that's funny and whimsical, but also has real emotional stakes. That's the real tricky part is to make it all feel grounded even though he is doing something, even though he's swinging through the streets and he can do things that no other human can do. But still give him a hard time when he's relating to his aunt or his girlfriend, and all those dumb little things that we all have to deal with when you don't have that mask on. I think reconciling those two universes was tricky, but I think that people really react to it.

On creating the identity for Spider-Man:

Well, Andrew went to Queens to sort of study how kids behave, act, dress, and he was very specific about the choices he made in terms of costumes and stuff.  It was about trying to find how a kid acts these days given the background that he has.  Meaning, he was abandoned as a child -- and irrespective of the parents' motives, or the conditions that surrounded that -- you can't help but feel a little bummed out by that.  And cheated, and a little distrustful of the world.

There is an attitude, but again that manifests itself [by Peter being] an outsider by choice.  He has a skateboard.  He can be a little bit surly, but there's a goodness to him that is sometimes misguided and sometimes not, but there's an attitude.  But I think it's really specific to this Peter Parker that you haven't seen before.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens in theaters on July 3rd, 2012. What do you think about what Webb is doing with this iconic character?

James Cameron gives Schwarzenegger TERMINATOR 5 Advice

$

Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently attached to and developing a fifth Terminator movie. This is the same film that Fast Five director Justin Lin was attached to direct at one point. He's since dropped out, I'm not sure where the film currently stands, but I know they wanted to get it into production quickly.

Even though director James Cameron is in no way attached to this next installment in the franchise he discussed it with the action star, and offered him some sound advice. Basically he told him that that he shouldn't move forward on a new Terminator movie unless it focuses on his character the T-800.

I was talking to him back in fall about a new 'Terminator' film and quietly advising on that, I suppose you could say.

I was trying to be as encouraging as possible. Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him. I told him he should not do it until it's focused on his character or he shouldn't do it. I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven't even been thought of yet.

It sounds like at the time Schwarzenegger's character wasn't the focus of the film, if that's the kind of advice the director was giving. I'm sure there are some great stories for that character! But I think maybe Cameron might be the only guy who could effectively make it happen.

A new Terminator film is definitely going to happen, it's only a matter of time. I'm excited for Scharzenegger to jump back into this franchise, but like Cameron, I think the movie needs to be done right. For it to be successful it has to give the fans what they want to see, and I think that's the T-800. The last we heard they were trying to figure out a way to end the James Cameron-hatched battle between humans and the cyborgs of Skynet. I'm not sure if that's still the plan.

Do you agree with Cameron and feel the movie should focus on the T-800?

Michael Douglas Joins new Vegas Comedy LAST VEGAS

Michael Douglas will be taking a trip to Las Vegas to try his luck in a new comedy being directed by Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure) called Last Vegas. The movie sounds like it's going to be a Hangover kind of Vegas story, but with much older characters.

The movie was written by Crazy, Stupid, Love scribe Dan Fogelman, and according to Variety, Douglas is playing "a man who, before marrying a woman half his age, invites his three childhood best friends on a wild bachelor party weekend in Las Vegas, where old tensions crop up between him and one of the trio over the woman they both loved as teenagers." I could see something like this turning out to be a pretty funny movie.

There was a rumor last year that Jack Nicholson was offered a role in the film, but there's been no update or confirmation that he's even involved. It will be cool to see who ends up being cast in the roles of the three friends. What seasoned actors would you like to see get cast in the film?

Disney To Make MR TOAD'S WILD RIDE Movie

$
0
0
I've been to Disneyland a few times as a kid, sadly I can't remember any of it, other than the handful of pictures and Disney money my mom keeps in my babybooks. I do however, clearly remember going to Disneyland for the first time as a teenager. I had a miserable time at the "Happiest Place on Earth," because I had to drag around my two little toddler cousins. The only enjoyment I had that day was on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, one of the kiddy rides that had been there since Disneyland first opened in 1955. The ride itself wasn't anything amazing, but watching the two drastically different reactions from my pint-size cousins was all the entertainment I needed. The two year-old girl looked adorable as she laughed and smiled at every spin and turn. But while she jumped in her seat and clapped her hands in delight, her 5 year-old big brother was reduced to tears, screaming for his mommy and crying and wailing as if this Disney ride designed for the most sensitive of kids would end in his death.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is still alive and hoppin' at Disneyland, but has since been closed at Disney World, replaced back in 1998 with The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh. It's now being reported over at Deadline that Disney has plans to develop the theme park ride into a live-action/CGI feature.
The Toad character is of course taken from Disney's adaptation of The Wind In The Willows, and Disney has already had an animated film rockin' the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride title that came out in 1996, which was directed by Terry Jones (Monty Python). It actually had quite the impressive cast as well with the likes of Steve Coogan, John Cleese and Stephen Fry all lending voice.
This go around, it seems they have some promising people they're placing behind it. Justin Springer(Tron: Legacy) will produce but the studio is still looking for a writer to draft the plot. The person I'm most excited about being involved in the mix is Pete Candeland. He's mostly known for wowing people with his commercials and with his awesome music videos he's done for The Gorillaz. He also has a long history with Disney as an animator. But he completely won me over when he worked with Paul McCartney to create the amazing cinematic opening to The Beatles Rock Band. I think I watched that thing half-a-dozen times before actually moving along and playing the actual game.
The fact that they already have a story to work with, this already has me a lot more interested than say, a movie that is based on just some ride. But hey, we all know Pirates Of The Caribbean raked in the dough. If Candeland puts the same kind of care and attention into Mr Toad's Wild Ride as he has with his other recent projects, I am more than excited to see how he handles his first feature length film as director. I'm also interested to see how he takes on the live-action stuff. I woudn't mind seeing this fully animated.

How do you feel about movies based on rides? What do you think of Candeland directing a full-length film?

Will the Grim Reaper be Back for BILL AND TED 3?

As you may have heard, a third Bill and Ted movie is currently in the works and both Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves will be back to reprise their bodacious roles. Now it looks like another cast member from the sequel will be back. William Sadler, who played The Grim Reaper in 1991's Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, confirmed that he had talked to Winter about possibly returning for the third film, and here's what he said...

I'm not sure if it's a done deal yet. I know they're trying to write The Grim Reaper in. (Writer-star) Alex (Winter) said, 'How could we do this without the Reaper?' I'm hopeful. I'd love to go back and play with those guys again. That was one of the most fun roles I've done. I'll be there in a heartbeat, if they want to do it.

Death made for a great character in the sequel, and it'd be so cool if they were able to find a place for him in the latest movie. Why not? It's Bill and Ted, they could basically get away with whatever they want to do no matter how ridiculous it is.

According to a previous report the third movie will follow our favorite characters on a journey to compose a song awesome enough to save the world. Reeves has read a draft of the script already and apparently he liked it. I can't wait to see what becomes of this project. What do you all think about Death possibly coming back for the sequel?

TAKEN Director Pierre Morel to Develop BASTILLE DAY

Taken director Pierre Morel is set to direct a new action thriller for Vendome Pictures called Bastille Day. The script for the film was written by Andrew Baldwin, and it's based on an original idea that follows "a young American artist living in Paris and a washed-up CIA agent who are thrown together and tasked with diverting an imminent attack on the city."

Morel has also directed other action films such as District B13 and From Paris With Love. As for Baldwin, he's currently writing the remake of Logan’s Run for Warner Bros. This sounds like it will be a good project for these guys as it sounds like the story and concept play to their strengths.
