Jai Courtney in Talks for Deadshot in SUICIDE SQUAD

Terminator: Genisys star Jai Courtney is in talks to join director David Ayer’s DC Entertainment film Suicide Squad. According to Variety, he’s up for the role of the Batman villain known as Deadshot.

The site also confirms that Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are in various stages of discussions to join the film. It was recently rumored that Leto is up for the role of The Joker, and Robbie could be cast as Harley Quinn. As for Hardy, he is looking to play founding team member Rick Flagg, and Smith might be up for the role of Digger Harkness, aka Captain Boomerang, who is a villain of The Flash. Jesse Eisenberg, who co-stars in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Lex Luthor, may also be joining the project.

These are some pretty spectacular casting choices, and I hope all of the above plays out. It’s also going to be amazing to finally see Joker and Harley up on the big screen together. I honestly never thought I’d see that happen.

Suicide Squad is based on the DC comic book, and the story centers on a team of super villains who are given a chance at redemption by the government by taking on missions that will probably kill them.

Courtney hasn’t really impressed me as an actor. He’s also starred in Divergent, Jack Reacher, and A Good Day to Die Hard. He’s got that hard look that you’d want to see in an actor who plays Deadshot, though, so lets see how this turns out.

The film is slated for release on August 5th, 2016.

GOTHAM BEGINS - Batman Parody Trailer

The Warp Zone has released an amusing sketch called "Gotham Begins." It’s a parody of FOX's Batman origins series Gotham, and it takes audiences back to a time that is "before-er Gotham." For example, it imagines what a show called “Before Gotham Begins: Origins - The Beginning,” would be like. This video turned out to be a lot funnier than I was expecting, and I hope you get a laugh from it.

James Gunn Reveals Alternate Ending to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty perfect and left audiences feeling good. Star-Lord throws in his new “Awesome Mix Tape," and it cuts to a montage of shots featuring the heroes of the story.

Director James Gunn revealed at a press event for the Blu-ray/DVD of the film that the final montage was originally going to include three other characters. Those characters are Nebula (Karen Gillan), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), and Grandpa Quill (Gregg Henry). All of the scenes were shot, but they weren’t used in the final cut of the film.

/Film got an update from Gunn on what those cut scenes entailed, and he describes them in the quote below:

“There are three characters that got cut out [of the ‘Ain't No Mountain High Enough’ montage]: Nebula, the Collector and Grandpa Quill. Nebula and Collector we decided, at a certain point, they’re kind of bad guys in the first movie. It was a real joyous experience with that finale so we thought we’d keep it to the characters that were part of ‘the good team.’ Which includes Yondu. He did fight on the good guys side. So we thought we would keep it to them.

“Grandpa Quill we cut because he was in old age make up and we were a little afraid people wouldn’t recognize that it was him from the beginning of the movie. And also, it was a pretty sad moment. It was Grandpa Quill and he has this photograph of Meredith and Peter as a little boy and he looks up at the stars and we go up to the stars and it was really sweet. It means that he must have seen Quill getting abducted at the end of that day and is still waiting for him to return but it was freaking sad so we took it out.

“Nebula’s was actually my favorite. Nebula’s I really liked a lot because she’s lost her arm and she’s just pissed off and she’s just walking through this field all pissed off with a busted Ravager vehicle behind her. And she’s just pissed off and I loved it.”

As for The Collector, his scene actually did make it in the movie, it just wasn’t a part of the montage as originally planned. It was the Howard the Duck post-credits scene.

Now I just want to point out a couple things that Gunn said in his description. If you were reading closely then I’m sure you caught them. He says that Nebula and the Collector are “bad guys” in the first movie, which suggests that maybe they won’t be bad in the sequel. The other part was with Grandpa Quill. They would have taken the movie back to earth for a brief moment, which could mean something. It seems like it would be pretty significant to the continuing story of this team of heroic misfits.

In case you’re wondering, none of those scenes are going to be included on the Blu-ray that hits stores December 9th, which is a bummer. I would have loved to see them.

On the outside, this house doesn’t really look that impressive, but once you walk through the front door you enter a bizarre house filled with all kinds of Predator awesomeness! The house is located in Kalmar, Sweden, and it’s currently up for sale. The main selling point for me is the incredible custom Predator themed spaceship home theater for movie viewing enjoyment. I personally don’t think the current owner has enough Predator helmets and masks on the wall, though. The asking price is around $320,000. I bet if you go into the Predator themed basement, it’s full of the skull and backbone trophies from human hunting. Check out the rest of the pics below.

THE CONJURING 2: THE ENDFIELD POLTERGEIST - Story Details and Release Date

the-conjuring-2-the-endfield-poltergeist-story-details-and-release-date

Warner Bros. has announced the full title and release date for James Wan’s The Conjuring 2. The movie will be called The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Poltergeist, and it’s set to be released in theaters on June 10th, 2016.

The sequel will continue to follow the supernatural adventures of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, and this sequel could be even more terrifying than the first one. The subtitle of the film offers us some insight into what the story of this film will be.

The Endfield Poltergeist is based on another real life investigation that the Warrens worked on. After a little digging around I found a detailed account of what this story entailed on a website called The Committee of Skeptical Inquiry

"In August 1977, a series of disturbances that were soon characterized as a case of poltergeist phenomena or even demonic possession began in Enfield, a northern suburb of London. The subject of a forthcoming movie, the occurrences, including the actions of an eleven-year-old girl who repeatedly 'levitated' above her bed, “held the nation spellbound” for over a year, according to Britain’s Daily Mail; 'no explanation other than the paranormal has ever been convincingly put forward'"

The tale begins with a divorced single mother named Margaret Hodgson who lived with her four children. They ranged in age from 7 to 13. The strange phenomenon started when the children began to complain that their beds were shaking during the night. There was a chest of drawers that would move in the dark and strange knocking sounds in the house. At one point there were even LEGOs and marbles that began to “zoom out of thin air and bounce off walls.” Of course, at first, Margaret thought that her kids were just making it all up or throwing LEGOs around themselves. But as things escalated, she couldn't ignore the craziness that was taking place anymore.

Apparently it wasn’t the house that was haunted, it was the kids. The two Hodgson's daughters claimed to have been stalked by this poltergeist, and that it would haunt them at school and while visiting with friends. Margaret believed that it was her eleven-year-old daughter Janet who was the main focus of this poltergeist's attention. Some people were skeptical and thought that the young girl was pulling off some kind of elaborate prank.

There were a number of skeptics and investigators that came to the home to study what was going on there and try to figure things out. They included Ed and Lorraine Warren. You can read more details on the incident here. There’s a lot more interesting stuff regarding the haunting there.

This definitely seems like a story that will make for a great horror film. I’m excited for this sequel, and with Wan on board to direct, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s going to be another great horror flick.

Stan Lee Rants about Retirement

Stan Lee is in his nineties, and he’s still as spunky and energetic as ever. He is the kind of guy who loves what he does and has no plans of retiring anytime soon. Lee is tired of people asking when he’s going to retire, and in his most recent episode of Stan’s Rants, he rants about it. Hey, if you love what you do, then why would you ever want to stop doing it?

Lee Daniels To Direct Horror Thriller DEMON HOUSE

Director Lee Daniels, the man who brought us films such as Lee Daniels’ The Butler, The Paperboy, and Precious, is about to take on a very different genre. He's set to direct a possession horror thriller called Demon House, which is apparently based on a true story.

According to Deadline, the movie is based on Latoya Ammons and her family. The claim to have been victims of a demonic possession that has spanned over two years and counting. The things that they've gone through have been witnessed and documented by the Department of Child Services, the Gary (IN) Police Department, and hospital staff. According to the report:

"The experience began with unusual occurrences in her home over two years ago, including swarms of flies around her porch in the winter and unexplainable creaking sounds in her basement. The events progressed to possessive incidents including her oldest daughter unconsciously levitating above her bed, medical staff witnessing her middle son gliding backward on the floor, wall and ceiling. According to Relativity, the DCS case manager witnessed her youngest son growling with his teeth showing and eyes rolled back, locking his hands around his older brother’s throat with no recollection of the incident. Initial psychological exams and exorcism attempts failed to provide explanation or solution for the bizarre events."

This sounds like the kind of story that could make for an insane horror flick. Daniels is a talented director who knows how to tell a great story on the big screen, but I never expected him to take on a horror film! It's always good for filmmakers to play with different genres, though.

The photo above apparently features an image of the spirit that was haunting the family in the window.

Adam Mansbach, the author of the best selling adult kids book Go the F**k to Sleep is back with a new story for you to enjoy! It's called You Have to F**king Eat, and it is read by Bryan F**king Cranston, the star of such shows as Breaking Bad and Malcom in the Middle

He provides the voice of the "long-suffering father whose indifferent child will just not eat." I have a couple little girls myself, and I go through this issue on a daily basis. So I definitely understand the frustration that is portrayed in this story, and I think it's hilarious.

A new featurette has been released for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It gives us a behind- the-scenes look at the film and offers up some interesting insight into the secrets of the Collector’s Lair. Benicio del Toro also discusses his character, who collects artifacts and organisms from across the Marvel Universe. The lair he had in this movie was packed full of all kinds of Easter eggs. Gunn points out some of the major ones in the video, such as the Frost Giants, Howard the Duck, his creatures from Slither, and more.

We also have a deleted scene from the movie for you to watch that features an intense confrontation between Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Thanks to EW and IGN for the videos. The Blu-ray and DVD for this movie will be released on December 9th!

Christopher Nolan Shares Thoughts on STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

It’s no secret that Christopher Nolan is a huge fan of Star Wars, and that the original trilogy has influenced his filmmaking craft. In a new interview he did with The Daily Beast he talks about why he doesn’t see himself directing a Star Wars movie. I love that he also says that he “[lives and dies] with each new bit of information” about J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, just like the rest of us movie geeks. Here’s what he said:

“I’m pretty excited to see what J.J. is going to do with that. I’m excited to see that he’s shooting on film and actually built the Millennium Falcon. As far as whether or not I would have ever done it, the truth is I think I’d be afraid to touch it! He’s boldly going where he went before in Star Trek, and it takes colossal balls. I’m a lot more comfortable trying to do my own thing than carrying the weight and expectation of the entire world—particularly 40-somethings like me who live and die with each new bit of information about Star Wars. But I’m very excited to see what he does.”

It’s really hard for me to imagine someone like Nolan going online and searching out Star Wars news. Maybe in the little spare time that he has he likes to geek out on the Internet and soak up all the Star Wars rumors too.

Joaquin Phoenix Talks DOCTOR STRANGE and Favorite Comics

Benedict Cumberbatch is currently the actor in negotiations for Marvel's Doctor Strange, and, as of right now, we are just waiting for the confirmation. Before he entered discussions though, Joaquin Phoenix was the man they were looking to cast in the role.

During an interview with Playboy magazine, the three-time Oscar-nominated actor kind of addressed the discussions he was having with Marvel about the role.

"I can't talk about it.  I’ve met on all sorts of movies throughout the years. What seems appealing about some of them is the idea of pushing myself in a way that’s out of my comfort zone. But really, it’s what I’m always looking for—good characters, big ideas and a passionate filmmaker. If those things line up with any kind of movie, I have interest in it."

Obviously those things didn't line up for him for Doctor Strange, but that's okay because I think, in the long run, Cumberbatch is the better choice anyway. When asked if he has ever regretted turning down a role in a big movie, Phoenix admitted that there was one,

"There’s only one movie I regret saying no to—except the person who ended up doing it was so good and was absolutely meant to do it, so I don’t have any regrets. I’m not going to say which one, but it was a really big hit. It’s getting to the point where they’re making some pretty decent movies. I thought Iron Man was fantastic."

It could be any movie, so it's kind of hard to pinpoint what that movie could be. The actor then talks about the kinds of comic books he used to read growing up saying,

"There’s some great Batman stuff and classic Frank Miller Dark Knight stuff and Arkham Asylum. But I was always a big Wolverine guy. I love Wolverine—big [frick]ing great dramatic character. They’re all conflicted, and they’re really interesting."

It would be cool to eventually see Phoenix take on a comic book character, and maybe one day he'll get that chance. Doctor Strange is being directed by Scott Derrickson, and it's scheduled to hit theaters on November 6th, 2016.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Fan Film Made in 2006

Eight years before J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm made Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a Canadian named Dan Lalonde made a fan film that he called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. How freakin' crazy is that?! It's just a wild coincidence, and in an interview with Yahoo, Lalonde said,

“My movie is kind of crappy, to be honest, which makes it even more funny. It is pretty awesome, though, to have come up with the title.”

The film he made is 50-minutes long, and it follows a regular guy who obtains the powers of a Jedi. It was inspired by his love of Star Wars and the 2004 Howard Hughes biopic The AviatorThe story is set in the present day, and it follows an "emotionally troubled recluse who discovers his Skywalker-like abilities when he single-handedly stops a meteor from killing his girlfriend."

When asked why he titled the movie the way he did, Lalonde said,

“It pretty much just came to me. I thought, hey, he’s awakening the force by stopping the giant meteor coming at him.”

You can watch the trailer for his movie below, and the full film is available via torrent.

WONDER WOMAN: Michelle MacLaren of Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and X-Files in Talks to Direct

$

The Wonder Woman solo film starring Gal Gadot set in the 1920s with a summer 2017 release may have just gotten its director. Four websites with a very good track record (Variety, The Wrap, THR, Latino-Review) almost simultaneously reported that Michelle MacLaren is in talks, or the top contender, to direct the movie. I've never seen "unofficial" news break on so many sites at one time. MacLaren has won two Emmys and received 11 nominations. She was executive producer on Breaking Bad and The X-Files. MacLaren has directed Breaking Bad (11 episodes), The Walking Dead (3 episodes), and Game of Thrones (4 episodes). She also fits Warner Bros' goal of finding a skilled female director.

THR also reports Jennifer Kent and Lesli Linka Glatter as possible contenders. But with the strength of MacLaren's filmography, I'm not sure why Warner Bros. isn't putting ink to paper right now.

10 Fun Facts about Steven Spielberg's DUEL

10-fun-facts-about-steven-spielbergs-duel

Duel was one of Stephen Spielberg's first films, and it was an incredible start to what would would become an amazing filmmaking career. The movie was released November 11th, 1971, which is 43 years ago today. As a tribute to the intense car and truck chase movie, I've put together a list of 10 fun facts that you might not know.

  • There is a scene where the truck drives off a cliff, and there was a contraption built to keep the truck traveling in a straight line without a driver to make that scene happen. That contraption failed, and instead of stopping, the driver, who had something important to attend the next day, stayed in the driver's seat and jumped out at the very last second before the truck went over. He did this so he didn't have to reshoot the next day so he could attend whatever engagement he had planned.
  • During the long chase, there was a parked sedan that resembled a squad car. This briefly raised Dennis Weaver's hopes. It turned out to be a service car for a pest exterminator named Grebleips, which is "Spielberg" spelled in reverse.
  • The truck driver was played by Carey Loftin, and when he asked Spielberg what his motivation was for tormenting Weaver, Spielberg said to him, "You're a dirty, rotten, no-good son of a bitch." Loftin replied, "Kid, you hired the right man."
  • The author of the short story that the film is based on, Richard Matheson, was inspired to write it after an encounter with a tailgating truck driver on November 22, 1963, which is the day that John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
  • Spielberg was shown seven different semi-trucks to choose from for the movie, and he ended up choosing a Peterbilt because the cab resembled a face.
  • At one point in the film the director makes an unintentional cameo. He can be seen reflected in the telephone booth during the scene where the character David Mann is calling the police. Spielberg admitted on his appearance on Inside the Actors Studio that this was a mistake. He went on to say that there were 18 different occurrences where Spielberg could be seen because of the change in aspect ratio for theatrical release.
  • The film was shot in twelve days, and it remains Spielberg's personal benchmark for how quickly he can shoot a film.
  • Spielberg wanted the main car in the film to be red so it that would stand out in the wide shots of the desert highways. He ended up using a 1970 red Plymouth Valiant with the California license plate 149 PCE.
  • Parker Brothers actually adapted the film in a board game. Apparently it didn't sell well, and copies have become scarce.
  • There are seventeen notches on the headlights of the truck. That could mean that the driver was keeping track of how man people he killed with his truck.

I included the trailer for the film below. And to check out a cool piece of fan art, click here.

Noir Style Sci-Fi Short Film - 300,000 KM/S

I have a wonderfully unique sci-fi film for you to check out today called "300,000 km/s." It comes from filmmaker Stéphane Réthoré, and it's a time travel movie that was inspired by the classic American and French noir and sci-fi films of the 1950s. What you are about to watch is a proof-of-concept short for a feature film version that they are currently raising funds for. Here's the synopsis:

Lucien Lacroix, inventor, has resumed the researches of his late father and created a watch that permits the wearer to travel in time. Deciding to go to Geneva to patent his invention, he’s followed by two mysterious individuals...

I think this is great and worth the 17-minutes of your time to watch. Since it's a noir film, you should expect a slow build up, but it gets really good near the end, and it left me wanting more. It's an ambitious story that is beautifully told, especially through the visuals. I hope you enjoy this one. The film is in French, but you can click on the CC tab in the embed to get subtitles.
