Rumor Alert — AVENGERS 3 to Be a Two Part Movie

0
0

A new rumor about Avengers 3 is making the rounds. This rumor comes from Daily Marvelite, which is a site we've never sourced before. So why are we bothering to report this? It makes logical sense and kind of aligns with things we've heard before.

The meat of the rumor is in the title. Avengers 3 will be a two part movie just like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and Twilight: Breaking Dawn. All the aforementioned movies will/have essentially double(d) their money by splitting those final books into multiple parts.

We've heard in the past from a few different sources that a showdown with Thanos is not going to happen until a fourth Avengers film. This two-part idea somewhat aligns with those previous rumors.

True or false, I do like the idea, and it would be a first for the Marvel cinematic universe.

The Cinefix gang put out another installment of their Homemade Movies series. This time they have a shot for shot remake of the Inception trailer, and it’s pretty great. I especially love the homemade “Bwahhh!” sounds.

Characters for THE WALKING DEAD Spin-off Series Revealed

Earlier this month AMC officially greenlit a pilot episode for a The Walking Dead companion series. The new show will be set in the same post-apocalyptic zombie world as the current TV series, but it will feature a whole new group of characters that reside in a different part of the country. There has been a rumor that the series will be a prequel that would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it, but there's been no confirmation of that.

TV Line managed to get their hands on some information regarding six of these new characters. Here are the names along with a brief description for each one:

SEAN CABRERA | A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.

CODY CABRERA | Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.

NANCY TOMPKINS | A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.

NICK TOMPKINS | Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee.

ASHLEY TOMPKINS | Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.

ANDREA CHAPMAN | A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea — yep, another Andrea! — has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.

Sounds like an interesting group of characters, and I'm looking forward to seeing the horror that they will be forced to endure. Dave Erickson (Marco Polo) co-created the spinoff series and co-wrote the pilot with Robert Kirkman.

Funny SNL Marvel Trailer Spoof with Chris Pratt

Let's face it, Marvel could take any of the characters that have been created in their comics over the years and turn them into a blockbuster hit. That includes the strange and obscure ones that audiences have never even heard of before. Guardians of the Galaxy proves that. Saturday Night Live and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt had some really fun at the expense of Marvel's success, and they put together a fun trailer spoof showing all of the ridiculous things that Marvel could successfully adapt into a movie.

"There's a new group of blockbusters coming down the pipe from Marvel, including Bus People, Fancy Ghosts and Some Shopping Carts."

I thought this was hilarious, and I hope you enjoy it! Thanks to Hulu!

David Fincher Met with Lucasfilm about Directing STAR WARS

Director David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club) revealed in an interview with Total Film that he had met with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about directing a Star Wars movie for them. Fincher got his start in the business working on Return of the Jedi, so it would have been completely appropriate for him to come back around and direct a movie. That's obviously not how it has played out, and the reason is because the director was unsure about Disney's involvement. He said,

"I talked to Kathy about it, but I think that it's a different thing from... I don't know what Disney-Lucasfilm will be like. It's tricky. My favourite is The Empire Strikes Back. If I said, 'I want to do something more like that,' then I'm sure the people paying for it would be like, 'No! You can't do that! We want it like the other one with all the creatures!' I always thought of Star Wars as the story of two slaves [C-3PO and R2-D2] who go from owner to owner, witnessing their masters' folly, the ultimate folly of man... I thought it was an interesting idea in the first two, but it's kind of gone by Return Of The Jedi."

I can see why Fincher would think that, especially after the bad experience he had with the studio on trying to bring 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to the big screen. But from what we've seen and heard about J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, it seems like all of the worries Fincher had weren't anything to worry about. Maybe after he sees a couple of the new Star Wars films, he'll reconsider and direct one of the standalone films. I'd love to see a Star Wars movie directed by Fincher!

Medieval Skeleton Warrior Art by Markus Neidel

One Halloween, my dad made an incredibly badass costume for me of a medieval skeleton warrior. It was one of my favorite costumes ever, and when I saw these awesome skeleton warrior illustrations I immediately had a nostalgic moment. The art you see here was created by Markus Neidel and they include a Skeleton Guard, a Skeleton Archer and a Skeleton Warrior. They also remind me of those awesome 80s fantasy films like Jason and the Argonauts.

Paramount Pictures has released four new TV spots for Christopher Nolan's space exploration epic Interstellar, and they offer up a good amount of new footage for you to enjoy. This movie looks so damn good!

The film follows a group of space explorers "who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage." Their mission is to find a planet that can sustain life.

The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck,David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine. It will be released in IMAX and 35mm theaters on November 7th, 2014.

Cable Cosplay With A Huge Gun

In this photo, Cable from X-Men/X-Force is cosplayed by CosAwesome Studios (yes that's his name). He's rocking an appropriately gigantic gun, body armor, and white hair. The costume is perfect but the photo by The Portrait Dude is missing only one thing Cable's signature glowing left eye. Soul Design added glow to the gun and added a post apocalyptic background, but no glowing eye? My nitpick aside, it's great work by a talented team.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Likely Attached to INTERSTELLAR

As if you needed another reason to head to theaters to see Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, we have reports that the first Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer will play ahead of it in theaters. If you are Russian, you will definitely get to see the Avengers teaser, as Warner Bros. Russia has announced that it will be attached to the space odyssey in that country. It makes sense for that to be true here in the States as well, given that Interstellar’s November 7 (U.S.) release date puts it almost exactly six months ahead of Age of Ultron’s May 1, 2015 (also U.S.) release date. That’s about when the Marvel PR machine starts rolling things out. They also usually put their trailers online a few days before theatrical release, so come back at the end of October/beginning of November to watch it here.

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers: Age of Ultron was written and directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul, Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Growing Up Geek: The Beginning of a Child Actor

growing-up-geek-the-beginning-of-a-child-actor

Having grown up with a dad who was an actor and singer for a living, the acting bug kind of rubbed off on me. There was a little local stage theater where I grew up called The Glendale Center Theater. My dad would do a lot of plays there, and I was hanging around that place a lot when I was about 10 years old. Little did I know it would lead to a short lived child acting career.

At one point, while I was hanging around the theater, I was asked if I wanted to try out for a part in their annual holiday play, A Christmas Carol. I did, and I was cast in the role of young Ebenezer Scrooge and the boy in the courtyard that buys Scrooge the turkey on Christmas Day. It was a pretty exciting time in my life.

The cast was a decent size and there were a lot of kids in it that I became really good friends with. I had such an amazing experience with this production. The first time I was up on stage was a thrilling experience! I loved the adrenaline rush. I never got nervous, I just did my scenes and when they were over I left the stage to an applause. It was just a really cool thing for a kid, and acting is something that I wanted to keep doing.

I loved the the whole experience of this stage production, from the rehearsals all the way through the run of the play. On top of the acting part there were a lot of fun hijinks happening behind the scenes. My friends and I had some ridiculously great times, and it led to us discovering dry ice bombs, but that's a whole other story for another time.

The Christmas Carol was just the beginning of a really interesting and fun young career in acting. From there I went on to do other plays such as The Music Man, Snow White, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, and others. These plays led to me getting an agent who helped me get into a couple Nintendo commercials, a music video, and some really interesting movie auditions that I was really close to getting, going up against young actors that have since become very big stars.

The next several Growing Up Geek articles I write are going to focus on my adventures in the acting world and where it led me. There were a lot of "what if" moments during this time in my life. You'll have a better understanding of what I mean by that when I start to share some of these stories with you.

I really loved these years of my life that I spent acting. I learned so much about myself and the world. I got a first hand experience at a young age of the fierce competition that exists in it.

The photo above is of me, and it was taken shortly after I got an agent. I was 11 years old.

EPISODE VII Star Oscar Isaac Not a Fan of Lucas' STAR WARS Changes

Star Wars: Episode VII star Oscar Isaac seems to feel the same way about George Lucas' Star Wars changes as the rest of us, and he wishes that the director would have never messed with the original films. In an interview with the Huffington Post, he was asked how he felt about the updates to the rereleased films, and this is what he said:

"Well, it’s a funny thing. I mean there’s two things. As an artist, like, he made the shit, so why can’t he do whatever the heck he wants with it. There’s a part of me that appreciates that he doesn’t really care if people are upset about it. He decided to share it with all of it and he wants to go back and do stuff, whatever. But as a fan, I’d much rather go back and watch the old thing, because it’s a product of the time. It’s what did you do at the time with the things that you had. And that’s what made that movie so amazing. At that time with that technology he made this thing and it was fucking awesome. So, you know, to go back and kind of tweak it with new stuff, it doesn’t make it more interesting for me as a watcher. It makes it less interesting, but I can’t fault him for doing that."

He makes some good points there, and it really does make those movies less interesting. I really want to see those original films get the Blu-ray treatment! He also talks about working within the secrecy of Star Wars during the interview, saying,

"You can’t say anything. You can’t say shit. But it’s fine! I don’t know why people are so obsessed with finding out stuff before the movie comes out. It’s so much more fun to just go. I mean, I don’t do that. I don’t go looking for stuff that I’m interested in, you know, to try and find out pictures and what the movie’s about. It’s so much more fun to be surprised."

Isaac was then asked if there was anything he was excited about for the character he plays in the film (who has yet to be announced), and this was his reply:

"There’s not anything that I can say about the character, but I can say that I’m most excited and, I know this seems nerdy, but I love the fact that J.J. Abrams is shooting it on film. And that’s not just from an aesthetic standpoint -- it really does matter -- but it’s about how a movie is filmed and the set, it changes it. It changes so many things. I mean, I’ve had to do things over again because there was a hair in the gate, which is so old school, but it just feels better, and movies are all about feeling, so I think that’s something that I’m so very excited about apart from the fact that it looks amazing, so textured and alive."

It's hearing stuff like that that makes me even more excited about seeing how this long awaited film is going to turn out.

A couple weeks ago I wrote an article that features ten fun facts from The Neverending Story that you may not have heard of. Today I've got a great piece of fan art for you to check out created by Paul Ainsworth. It's called "Power of Auryn," and you can pick up a print for yourself right here. This was one of my favorite movies growing up, and it might have been one of the first movies I ever watched that made me cry.

Listen to Lorde's Track from THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 1

Singer-songwriter Lorde recorded a song for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 that is titled "Yellow Flicker Beat," and it is lyrically beautiful. Lorde is one my favorite new artists and I really love her music.

Here's what Lorde had to say about the track on her Tumblr:

"It’s my first offering from what I hope will be a soundtrack you love. It’s my attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss’. I hope you like it."

We also have eight new character portraits via Dark Horizons. I wonder if I could pull off a Caesar Flickerman Halloween costume.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 begins its assault November 21st (USA).

Saturday Morning Cartoons Are Officially Dead

saturday-morning-cartoons-are-officially-dead

I grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons. It was my favorite thing in the world when I was a little kid. As I've grown and have had kids of my own, I've witnessed the demise of Saturday morning cartoons. I think it's sad that my kids have never really had that experience of anticipation for Saturday morning. When I was a kid, I spent my whole week looking forward to Saturday morning! I'd wake up early and sit down in front of the TV with one of several sugary cereals from that era and watch my shows. Those were some of the best shows ever made. The fact that my kids can now watch their favorite shows any time they wan't takes that experience away from them.

Now Saturday morning cartoons are officially dead. They were killed off over the weekend when The CW’s Vortexx programming block, which included shows such as Cubix, Sonic X, Dragon Ball Z and Kai, Digimon Fusion and Yu-Gi-Oh!, aired for the last time. Next week The CW will replace the those shows with a live-action TV block called “One Magnificent Morning” that will be filled with educational shows for kids.

I'm all for educational programs that kids won't watch, but I am sad that something I grew up enjoying no longer exists. I've included a recap from Wikipedia that takes us through the details of the slow death of Saturday Morning Cartoons over the past 18 years:

As of 2014, there are currently no more animated productions on network TV. A 1996 Federal Communications Commission mandate, issued in the wake of the Children’s Television Act, requires stations to program a minimum of three hours of children’s educational/informational (“E/I”) programming per week. To help their affiliates comply with the regulations, broadcast networks began to reorganize their efforts to adhere to the mandates, so their affiliates would not bear the burden of scheduling the shows themselves on their own time thus eliminating the risk of having network product preempted by the mandates. This almost always meant that the educational programming was placed during the Saturday morning cartoon block.
NBC abandoned its Saturday morning cartoon lineup in 1992, replacing it with a Saturday morning edition of Today and adding an all live-action teen-oriented block, TNBC, which featured Saved by the Bell, California Dreams and other teen comedies. Even though the educational content was minimal to non-existent, NBC labeled all the live-action shows with an E/I rating and the legal fiction of a blanket educational summary boilerplate provided to stations to place in their quarterly educational effort reports for the FCC. CBS followed NBC’s example in the late 1990s by producing CBS News Saturday Morning for the first two hours of its lineup and an all live-action block of children’s programming. The experiment lasted a few months, and CBS brought back its animated CBS Storybreak series. In 2004, ABC was the last of the broadcast networks to add a Saturday morning edition of its morning news program (in their case, Good Morning America Weekend) in the first hour of its lineup, mainly due to affiliate criticism of the lack of network coverage for the February 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster which occurred on a Saturday morning, forcing them to take coverage from other video wire services. Prior to that, and particularly in the early 1990s, it was not uncommon for affiliates to preempt part or all of ABC’s cartoon lineup with local programming.

Below you'll find a list of all the Saturday morning cartoons that graced our televisions in the 1980s (thanks to InThe80′s.com). Look through them and let us know what some of your favorites were.

Trailer for Karl Urban and James Marsden's Thriller - THE LOFT

trailer-for-karl-urban-and-james-marsdens-thriller-the-loft

An international trailer has been released for an intense thriller called The Loft. The movie has a great cast including Karl Urban, James Marsden, Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet, and Isabel Lucas

The film is a remake of a 2008 Belgian film, and the original director of that movie, Erik Van Looy, also directed the remake.

The story follows five married friends who decide to rent a loft together where they can bring their mistresses and have their way with them. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the loft, they realize that they don't know each other as well as they thought. They begin to suspect one another of the murder, as they are the only ones who have keys to the premises. Through flashbacks, which are intertwined by scenes from the present, the entire story is unraveled.

The movie looks great, and that cast alone is enough to make me want to see it. The movie is set to be released in the US on January 23rd, 2015.

"Eyes of Hitchcock" Supercut by Kogonada

The Criterion Collection has released a supercut by :: kogonada titled "Eyes of Hitchcock." The cutting style is interesting, doing a kind of gif animation loop with several moments, which makes the faces and eyes have a very dimensional almost 3D feel to it. The music by Rob Cawley adds a tension and uneasiness to the whole thing. All in all, very Hitchcock.

Artist Jake Murray created this amazingly nostalgic illustration featuring a little boy blowing into an original Nintendo Entertainment System game cartridge. It was customary to do this back in the day when we couldn't get our video games to work. I'm sure I spent a lot of hours blowing into these cartridges when I was growing up. The piece is called "Play Me Those Old Cartridge Blues," and it really brings back some frustrating memories.
