New UK Spots for HORNS

$

In the grand tradition of scaring the crap out of yourself every autumn, Horns is coming out on Halloween, and I can’t think of a better way to give yourself nightmares that day. Supernatural thrillers aren’t usually my thing, but I find myself intrigued/repulsed by the trailers for this movie. It looks really interesting and inventive in addition to the whole completely terrifying aspect. In case this picture didn't sell you on why seeing this movie is a good/bad idea, check out these two new UK TV spots for the film.

Based on the novel by Joe Hill, Horns is a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery and romance. The film follows Ig Perrish, the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin. Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses - an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend's tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

Horns was directed by Alexandre Aja from a script by Keith Bunin. It stars Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, Kelli Garner, Max Minghella, Joe anderson, Heather Graham, and James Remar.

Mind-Bending SIMPSONS Couch Gag by Don Hertzfeldt

It's always fun when outside filmmakers and artists jump on board The Simpsons train to create the opening couch gage. Some of those people have included Bansky and Guillermo del Toro. This time producers brought in Oscar-nominated animator Don Hertzfeldt to give us the couch gag for last night's season premiere, and holy crap… it is insanely kooky. If you're familiar with Hertfeldt's work, then you won't be surprised with what you're about to see. If you aren't familiar, prepare yourselves for really weird ride. I also included one of the animator's previous works below called The Animation Show

Warner Bros. Wouldn't Give Ben Affleck His Batsuit

I'm a fan of the Batsuit that Ben Affleck will be wearing in Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The actor seems to be a big fan of it as well, and in a recent interview on Live! With Kelly and Michael he revealed that he asked if he could take it home with him when they were finished shooting the movie. You'd think the studio would be like, "Yeah! Of course. After all, you are Batman." That's wasn't the case at all, though.

When co-host Michael Strahan asked if the actor could take the suit home when he's done filming, Affleck jokingly replied,

"I think I'm gonna get a lot of birthday party requests when this comes out."

He went on to talk about what happened when he did ask if he could take it home:

"So I asked them, like, 'What about maybe taking the suit home at the end of the thing?' And they're like, 'For $100,000 you can.' I was like, 'Maybe I'll just take a picture.'"

Yeah, even if I was rich I don't think I would pay $100,000 for a Batman costume. Especially if I got to say that I actually played Batman in a huge multi-million dollar film. You'd think the studio could afford to give one away though to the guy who got all sweaty in it for the duration of the shoot.

Twelfth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver Replica Has Touch Controls

Is the twelfth Doctor your favorite doctor, or your MOST favorite doctor? Do you think he has the coolest sonic screwdriver ever? Or do you think it looks exactly like the Eleventh Doctor’s sonic screwdriver? Do you think I am asking too many rhetorical questions? Would you like me to stop? Whatever your answers to the previous questions, this replica of the Twelfth (Eleventh?) Doctor’s sonic screwdriver is pretty nifty. It doesn’t have any buttons! It is touch activated! It has lights and sounds! I would like to get this for my kid, who is suddenly scared of monsters at night, but I think he’d just play with it all night instead of sleeping!

It’s available at Entertainment Earth, or at ForbiddenPlanet.co.uk. Thanks to Geek Alerts for the alert.

FURY — "Best Job I Ever Had" UK TV Spot

In the first TV spot for writer-director David Ayer’s World War II action-drama, Fury, Sergeant Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) and the rest of his five man crew (Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal) exclaim, “Best job I ever had!” Being outnumbered and out-gunned behind enemy lines doesn’t sound like a job I’d ever want, but these guys were clearly cut from a different cloth. The spot has all the adrenaline-pumping imagery you’d expect from Ayer, but the scale of the film looks surprisingly small, considering the setting.

Fury is set for release on October 17th. To watch the previously released trailers and featurette, click here.

You Can Dress as Sexy Olaf from FROZEN

It's almost Halloween and you know what that means! Lots of sexy Disney costumes will be popping up in your local Halloween costume shops. This year, Frozen is getting the sexy costume treatment, and Yandy has revealed costumes for characters such as Anna, Elsa, and even a sexy Olaf! Why? Because I guess they could.

For legal reasons the names of the costumes have been changed from Elsa, Anna, and Olaf to “Blue Dress” / “Blue Maiden,” “Norwegian Maiden,” and “Funny Snowman” costumes. I just think it's hilarious that someone looked at Olaf and had the thought of making the character a sexy Halloween costume, and then actually followed through with designing one.

Kevin Smith Secures Financing for CLERKS III

Director Kevin Smith has revealed that he's secured financing for Clerks III, so for those of you hoping that the movie would eventually happen, you're in luck! He gave an update on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast explaining that his box-office bombTusk helped pave the way for Clerks III.

"Tusk was the absolute bridge to Clerks III. Because of Tusk, I got my financing for 'Clerks III'. A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get Clerks III made for the 20th anniversary... I must have reeked of [desperation], because I couldn’t f–ing find money and s--t. But it was Tusk, with people going ‘Holy f–k, what else do you have?’ I was like, Clerks III! and they’re like. ‘Done!’ Everybody that’s like, ‘He failed, he failed!’ I’m like, ‘Thank you, I failed into Clerks III!’"

Smith is already finished with the script for Clerks III, and is now in the process of making his comic book action-adventure film Yoga Hosers, which will star Johnny Depp and himself and their daughters.

There's no word on when he'll start shooting Clerks III, but it looks like the movie will eventually happen. It will be fun to see what Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) and Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran), the original 1994 clerks, are up too after these past eight years. The last time we saw them was in Clerks II, which was released in 2006.

Starbucks: Come for the coffee, stay for the doodling. Or hang out there for hours writing your “screenplay.” Redditor IHunt chose the former, transforming humble Starbucks coffee cups into fun and inventive works of art. I’m not a coffee drinker, but these doodles are quite inspiring. The next hot chocolate run I do will definitely involve transforming the Starbucks mermaid logo into a geeky creation. Strange Trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's INHERENT VICE

Warner Bros. has released the first fantastically strange trailer for director Paul Thomas Anderson's new film Inherent Vice. The movie stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, and Benicio Del Toro. This movie looks like it's going to be a wild and crazy ride. I love what I saw in the trailer, and it has all of the quirky off-beat elements that I enjoy in Anderson's films. The feature is an adaption of the novel by Thomas Pynchon, and this is the synopsis:

When private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin…well, easy for her to say.

It’s the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” that’s being way too overused—except this one usually leads to trouble.

With a cast of characters that includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, LAPD Detectives, a tenor sax player working undercover, and a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang, which may only be a tax dodge set up by some dentists... Part surf noir, part psychedelic romp—all Thomas Pynchon.

The movie will be released on Christmas Day, and it definitely looks like a flick worth checking out. It's set to premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 4th.

Jeremy Renner Talks More About AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and CAPTAIN AMERICA 3

Jeremy Renner has been making the press rounds recently, and he can't avoid any questions regarding Avengers: Age of Ultron in which Hawkeye will have a much bigger role, and Captain America 3, which he might also be a part of.

In an interview with Starpulse, this is what the actor said about Age of Ultron and Hawkeye,

"It was fun to finally kind of discover who Clint Barton is a little bit, We have some good secrets revealed. I think everything that was great about the first Avengers, is exponentially expressed in this one. From the action, to the making fun of itself, and there's a lot more time spent with the Avengers together, after being so separated in the first one. We've got some great new goodies, and some good baddies."

The actor was then asked about Guardians of the Galaxy, which he loved, and whether or not he would want to see an Avengers crossover with those characters from the space set adventure film to which he replied,

"That would be awesome, I think that would be awesome. Of course that's the hopes with the puppeteers behind Marvel, but we'll see, man. We'll see..."

During a separate interview with The Daily Beast, Renner was asked about the Captain America 3 rumor again, and he said,

"Oh, that’s a rumor all right! I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know it’s going to start shooting in March. I haven’t had any official conversations about doing it or not."

Of course, we all know that he has had conversations because Marvel likes to get things set in place early. I'm sure they'll include him in the next Captain America adventure. He was also asked about the production wrap-up of Age of Ultron and he said,

"We have to do some pick-up shots here and there, but for the most part. Hulk has a more prominent role, and I have a more prominent role. There are a lot more scenes of the entire Avengers gang together—both in and out of the cape, so to speak. It’s making me become a total fanboy. It’s pretty fun to be a part of."

When asked about his multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios, the actor gave an interesting answer.

"I think most actors will sign on to do, like… Captain America 1-3 and then The Avengers 1-3, and then you’re done. For me, I signed on to The Avengers 1-3 and then Hawk-Eye, in case they want to do a Hawk-Eye spin-off."

A Hawkeye spin-off film, eh? He recently said that he wasn't really that interested in doing one, but I guess that could all change if Marvel chooses to do it. It's really not up to Renner if the movie gets made or not.

Employees from Lucasfilm, ILM, and other tenants of the Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco participated in the Lucasfilm Sidewalk Art Festival last weekend. The annual event features several chalk art illustrations created by teams of 2 to 4 people. The art was inspired by Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and other films.

The winners of the friendly art competition include a van Gogh inspired “Death Starry Night,” an Edvard Munch-ian “C-3PO Scream,” “Calvin and Hoth,” a parked 3D landspeeder, “Two Masters,” Yoda and Aladdin’s genie, and “Indy’s Whip It!”

You can see those and several other photos of the fun and amusing sidewalk chalk art below thanks to StarWars.com.

THE PIXAR THEORY — Video of How Every Movie Is Connected

Rewatch Edgar Wright's "Little Internet Head Trip" — BRANDON GENERATOR

I came across some Brandon Generator art on Twitter recently and fell down the rabbit hole of catching up on the motion comic/animated short/"little internet head trip." The Random Adventures of Brandon Generator was a partially crowdsourced project by Edgar Wright and Lucasfilm illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards, with viewers able to explore the world and suggest ideas, art, or actual prose that might make it into future episodes. Unfortunately, the project ended in June 2012, so you can’t join in, but the gorgeous artwork and animation and the inventive story structure are worth watching, especially since you can watch all 4 episodes in under 30 minutes. If you really want to waste time at work/school today, you can check out the reader submitted art and stories that go along with everything.

The project also featured original music by Unloved and narration by The Mighty Boosh's Julian Barratt. I've included a making of video below, as well as the artwork that caught my eye this morning.

Has Stan Lee Been Playing the Same Character in Every Marvel Movie?

$

has-stan-lee-been-playing-the-same-character-in-every-marvel-movie

There's an interesting and cool theory that I recently came across that suggests all of the cameos that Marvel co-founder Stan Lee has had in the Marvel movies could actually be the same character.

The cameos that Lee has made in all of these films over the years are meant to pay tribute to the man who created so many of these amazing characters. But, what if there was a little more to it than that?

The theory suggests that the Marvel cinematic version of Stan Lee is actually Uatu, also known as The Watcher, but in human form. Apparently, this theory has been floating around for awhile now, but I just came across it over on Cinemablend

For those of you not familiar with The Watcher, he was created by Lee and Jack Kirby in the early 1960s. He's one of the oldest beings in the Marvel Universe, and is part of a race that watches over and observes the universe. The character records everything that happens, and he's specifically assigned to watch over the events of Earth, but he doesn’t involve himself in its affairs.

This would explain why Lee's character happens to be around all of the superhero action in the cinematic universe. Now, we know the character is assigned to specifically watch over the events of Earth, so how do we explain Lee's appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy? Well, he's obviously keeping his eye on Peter Quill, who is from Earth, and he knows that he has an important future role in the universe and what happens to Earth.

One of the coolest parts about this theory is that in a very small way it establishes a multiverse that connects all of the Marvel franchises that Lee has appeared in. That means even though separate studios own certain rights to different characters, there is still a connection within the cinematic universe.

I don't think we'll ever see studios like Marvel, Fox, and Sony working together to crossover any of the characters they own the rights too. Even if you don't buy into the whole Watcher theory, in a way, that connection is still there with the cameos Stan Lee has made.

Last night's episode of Gotham was great, and it looks like we have an amazing first season ahead of us! I really like where they are taking these characters, especially The Penguin, and it's going to be fun to watch them develop over the course of the season.

FOX has released a promo for the upcoming third episode of the show, called "The Balloonman," and here's a short description of what's in store for us:

Detectives Gordon and Bullock track down a vigilante who is killing corrupt Gotham citizens by attaching them to weather balloons. Meanwhile, Oswald Cobblepot returns to Gotham and gets a new job close to an influential figure in the underworld in the all-new 'The Balloonman' episode of Gotham.

Episode 3 will air on Monday, October 6th.

Liam Neeson is Back to Kick Ass in TAKEN 3 Trailer

"Listen carefully Kim, something terrible has happened to your mom. Don't trust anyone."

Here we go again. First of all, the official title for Taken 3 is Tak3n — titles with numbers in them are ridiculous. I really haven't been on board with this third Taken film, but I will say this... it at least looks better than the second one. Here's the synopsis:

Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.

The movie will be released in theaters on January 9th, 2015.

15 Best Pieces of 1980s NES Cartridge Box Art

$

I recently posted a great piece of art that featured a little kid blowing into an original Nintendo Entertainment System game cartridge. It got me thinking about all the games I used to play back in the day, and I started looking up some old stuff to reminisce on those good old days. As I was skimming through some stuff, a lot of video game cartridge images were popping up and I noticed there was some really cool art that was created for some of these games. One of the other things I noticed is that the bad art outweighed the good, so I thought I'd pluck out a few of the coolest NES game cartridge illustrations that I came across and do a little post for them. Castlevania sure seemed to know what they were doing when it came to the art as the first three games top the list.

Each piece that I included actually has some artistic flare too it. An artist actually put in some effort into making it feel badass. A lot of the game art just wasn't like that back in the day. There was a lot of logo art, a lot of pixilated art, and some really bad art. I'm sure the good art helped in the marketing and selling of the game. I know I only wanted to play the games with the radical art on the cover. Sometimes that game would suck ass. You can't judge a game by its cover, even if the cover of the book looks awesome. On top of the art, I also included a little game play action or a commercial for each one.
