Disney Movie Timeline Chart

disney-movie-chronology-chart

Here's a fantastic chronology chart that breaks down the time period of every Disney movie. It was created by Aish from Disney's New Groove who gave the following explanation:

"Disney movies in order of historical setting. (Excludes most of the package films. Some films, eg The Lion King, are impossible to pin down exactly and some, like Aladdin and Treasure Planet, are anachronistic, so these are estimations. A few have been split into 2 if there is more than one time period in the movie, and sequels have been put together.)"

"It's not over till there all dead."

Another TV spot has been released for The Walking Dead Season 5, and it features a bit of new footage. Some of that footage includes Carol covered in blood and it also shows Rick and the gang preparing to kick some ass.

Season Four of The Walking Dead ended with Rick and the group outgunned, outnumbered, and trapped in a train car awaiting a grim fate. Season Five picks up shortly thereafter. What follows is a story that weaves the true motives of the people of Terminus with the hopeful prospect of a cure in Washington, D.C., the fate of the group’s lost comrades, as well as new locales, new conflicts, and new obstacles in keeping the group together and staying alive. Stories will break apart and intersect. The characters will find love and hate. Peace and conflict. Contentment and terror. And, in the quest to find a permanent, safe place to call home, one question will haunt them… After all they’ve seen, all they’ve done, all they’ve sacrificed, lost, and held on to no matter what the cost...Who do they become?

The series returns to AMC on October 12th!

Woman Has Surgery for Third TOTAL RECALL Breast

It amazes me to see the things people will do for fame. 21-year-old Jasmine Tridevil went through surgery to have a third breast added to her body like the alien chick in Total Recall. Why would she do something like this? Because she hopes that it will help her score a reality television show. Her parents didn't seem to take it very well:

"My mum ran out of the door. She won't talk to me. She won't let my sister talk to me. My dad... he really isn't happy. He is kind of ashamed of me but he accepted it."

The surgery cost her $20,000, and in case you were wondering, that included a "nipple" implant with an areole tattoo. She also claims to have contacted more than 50 doctors before one agreed to do it.

“It was really hard finding someone that would do it too because they’re breaking the code of ethics.”

All I can say is that people are crazy. There's even a video that you can watch here if you want. I just find the whole thing disturbing as hell.

Roberto Orci Drops Out of POWER RANGERS Movie

Roberto Orci has dropped out as the executive producer on the Power Rangers movie being developed by Lionsgate. Not because anything is wrong with the production, but because of his commitment to Star Trek 3, which he is writing and directing.

Regardless of the set back the studio is still moving forward with the movie and they are still planning to release it on July 22nd, 2016. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) are currently writing the script. Haim Saban, creator of the Power Rangers franchise, is producing.

The movie will be a modern reinvention of the classic series which followed a group of ordinary high school kids given extraterrestrial powers who must harness those powers as a team to save the world from evil alien creatures.

I'm curious to see what this movie will be like. The series was so cheesy. I wonder if they'll bring that cheesiness along for the ride, of if they will go for a darker reimagining.

JUDGE DREDD Art by Greg Staples

Award winning artist Greg Staples illustrated Judge Dredd comic books throughout the ‘90s. Staples has never strayed far from the character in the years since, creating promo art for the 2012 film Dredd, and dawning the costume himself and starring as Dredd in the amazing fan-made film we posted last year, Judge Minty. For this piece that we found over on XombieDirge, Staples illustrated an older and more grizzled version of the character that is comic accurate yet bordering photorealistic.

James Spader Says Comic-Con is 3 Days of Foreplay

James Spader, who plays the villain Ultron in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" last week. While on the show he very briefly talked about the film saying, "I'm Ultron, eight-foot robot," and that's about it. Most of what he had to say was about his experience at San Diego Comic-Con last July in which he said:

"We finished the season of Blacklist, and two days later I got on a plane and flew to London to shoot the Avengers. And then right after that came back here to New York and flew immediately to Comic-Con. And then flew back from Comic-Con to start shooting the second season of Blacklist. But Comic-Con is the most insane… have any of you ever been to Comic-Con? [Several audience members applaud] Oh, my god, you brave, brave souls. It is crazy. I mean life really can’t get strange enough for me, but I mean it’s the craziest place I have ever been."

The actor goes on to amusingly and accurately describe it as being three days of foreplay for fans:

"But Comic-Con it’s all anticipation. They’re not getting a performance in any way, shape or form. It’s a tease, because it’s all anticipatory. It’s like foreplay for hours and days. It’s three days of foreplay. But what you don’t realize, it’s not like at the end of the three days you get that, it’s going to happen. They’re anticipating an event that’s not going to happen for six months or a year."

He's totally right, and that's why we love it so much! On a side note, Spader is going to awesome in Age of Ultron.

Steven Soderbergh Recut RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK as a Black & White Silent Film

Director Steven Soderbergh is a guy who likes to experiment with film, and he's currently working on the amazing Showtime series The Knick. Even though the guy is busy, he happened to find some time to recut Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' Raiders of the Lost Ark as a black and white silent movie. It's definitely an interesting watch, and it looks great in black and white. Here's an explanation from Soderbergh's website on what he was trying to accomplish with this:

I’m assuming the phrase “staging” came out of the theatre world, but it’s equally at home (and useful) in the movie world, since the term (roughly defined) refers to how all the various elements of a given scene or piece are aligned, arranged, and coordinated. In movies the role of editing adds something unique: the opportunity to extend and/or expand a visual (or narrative) idea to the limits of one’s imagination—a crazy idea that works today is tomorrow’s normal.

I value the ability to stage something well because when it’s done well its pleasures are huge, and most people don’t do it well, which indicates it must not be easy to master (it’s frightening how many opportunities there are to do something wrong in a sequence or a group of scenes. Minefields EVERYWHERE. Fincher said it: there’s potentially a hundred different ways to shoot something but at the end of the day there’s really only two, and one of them is wrong). Of course understanding story, character, and performance are crucial to directing well, but I operate under the theory a movie should work with the sound off, and under that theory, staging becomes paramount (the adjective, not the studio. although their logo DOES appear on the front of this…).

So I want you to watch this movie and think only about staging, how the shots are built and laid out, what the rules of movement are, what the cutting patterns are. See if you can reproduce the thought process that resulted in these choices by asking yourself: why was each shot—whether short or long—held for that exact length of time and placed in that order? Sounds like fun, right? It actually is. To me. Oh, and I’ve removed all sound and color from the film, apart from a score designed to aid you in your quest to just study the visual staging aspect. Wait, WHAT? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS? Well, I’m not saying I’m like, ALLOWED to do this, I’m just saying this is what I do when I try to learn about staging, and this filmmaker forgot more about staging by the time he made his first feature than I know to this day (for example, no matter how fast the cuts come, you always know exactly where you are—that’s high level visual math shit).

At some point you will say to yourself or someone THIS LOOKS AMAZING IN BLACK AND WHITE and it’s because Douglas Slocombe shot THE LAVENDAR HILL MOB and the THE SERVANT and his stark, high-contrast lighting style was eye-popping regardless of medium.

2 New AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW Promos - "Peek A Boo"

2-new-american-horror-story-freak-show-promos-peek-a-boo

I've been rewatching past seasons of American Horror Story recently, and I've got to say that Asylum is the best chapter we've seen so far. I'm really excited for American Horror Story: Freak Show though, I think it has the potential to outdo Asylum. We've got two new eerie short promos for you to check out today. The first is called "Peek A Boo" and the second is called "Twisted Swinger."

Sarah Paulson recently talked about the upcoming series with EW, and the two headed character, Bette and Dot, that she plays in it.

"It's not as simple as nice and evil. It's more complicated in true Ryan Murphy style. One has more darkness in her but not darkness of evil—darkness of depression, of knowing what's out in the world. The other one is more of an innocent. It's innocent and more cynical. Even though they share a body, they have different brains and different hearts. They experience everything differently from each one another."

She goes on to say that the addition of her character changes the dynamic of the group in the story, explaining:

"The troupe is in need of a real jolt of energy and a new attraction to make people in the town come and see it. The show is not in its heyday. It's definitely on the downward spiral. I think because they all want to be employed and all of them recognize a kindred. When they see the twins, they're hopeful and excited that we're going to bring about a certain kind of change that's going to be good for the group."

Paulson then adds that something crazy happens in the first episode, and that this "sets the scene for the rest of the season for them."

A couple of weeks ago it was confirmed that Dwayne Johnson would be playing Black Adam in Warner Bros. Shazam movie. There aren't many people out there who know the full history behind Black Adam and who he is, but thanks to IGN's "Comics History 101" they tell you everything that you need to know. This is for anyone who isn't really familiar with the DC Comics character. I'm going to throw out a SPOILER warning though because they do dish out a ton of information that the studio may or may not use in the film.

J.J. Abrams and Stephen King's 11/22/63 Series Lands on Hulu

Hulu has ordered a full nine-hour series event based on Stephen King's novel 11/22/63. J.J. Abrams is producing the thriller through Bad Robot Productions. The story follows a high school English teacher named Jake Epping, who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This comes along with several challenges and his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, falling in love and a past that doesn’t want to be changed.

Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) is set to write the script and executive produce the drama alongside King and Abrams. Hulu's head of content and senior vp Craig Erwich had this to say in a statement:

"J.J. Abrams and Stephen King are two of the most celebrated storytellers of our time, and we are excited to be working with them and Warner Bros. Television to bring this unique take on one of the most seminal historic events of the 20th century to Hulu. 11/22/63 already resonated with audiences as a best-selling novel, and we are looking forward to bringing the riveting story to the screen.”

King Added:

"If I ever wrote a book that cries out for longform, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it. I’m excited that it’s going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team."

Then of course Abrams had to add his two cents:

"I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school. The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream. We are thrilled to be working with Hulu on this very special project."

This is a fantastic story, and with the team of talent they've managed to bring together for it, it should be awesome. Below you'll find the description of the book:

Dallas, 11/22/63: Three shots ring out.

President John F. Kennedy is dead.

Life can turn on a dime—or stumble into the extraordinary, as it does for Jake Epping, a high school English teacher in a Maine town. While grading essays by his GED students, Jake reads a gruesome, enthralling piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry somehow survived his father’s sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family. Jake is blown away...but an even more bizarre secret comes to light when Jake’s friend Al, owner of the local diner, enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination. How? By stepping through a portal in the diner’s storeroom, and into the era of Ike and Elvis, of big American cars, sock hops, and cigarette smoke... Finding himself in warmhearted Jodie, Texas, Jake begins a new life. But all turns in the road lead to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald. The course of history is about to be rewritten...and become heart-stoppingly suspenseful.

The rumored title for the Venom movie currently being developed by Alex Kurtzman is Venom Carnage. I really, really hope that is indeed the title. It would be amazing to see Carnage finally brought to life on the big screen. In the meantime we can read the Carnage stories in the comics, and find all kinds of really cool fan art on the internet. The piece you see here was created by Randy Ortiz and it's available at Mondo-Con in Austin, Texas. Thanks to XombieDirge.

Bryan Singer Officially Directing X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

I know we all assumed Bryan Singer would be back to direct X-Men: Apocalypse. After all, he's been writing the movie over the last few months with his team that consists of Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris. Until today, though, there was no official confirmation that he would direct the movie, especially with the controversy surrounding the filmmaker. Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has closed the deal with the director, and now he can really get moving on it.

Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy are a few of several cast members that are expected to return to the franchise. Kinberg talked about some of the characters they might use in the film in an interview with Yahoo! saying:

The X-Men film that we’re working on now as everybody knows is X-Men: Apocalypse and that really follows the stories of the let’s say ‘First Class’ X-Men. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, many others of that generation of X-Men. So, in future X-Men films? Perhaps, but in ‘Apocalypse’ it will really be the continuation of the ‘past’ of ‘Days of Future Past.’

He goes on to say that if they do include younger versions of certain character, that they will be recast:

"If we included some of the original X-Men, like Storm, Jean, Scott, and others, yeah we would have to recast them, because Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before 'X1,' which now insanely was fifteen years ago. It would be very hard to do. Halle, Famke, and Jimmy, and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life and they’re so identified, those actors, with the parts now. So it would be a tall task, but I also would have said before 'First Class' there would be no way we could find actors who could stand alongside Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, and I think we managed to with Michael and James finding their own interpretation of the characters, not doing an impersonation. So, are we going to have to recast? If some of those characters were in the movie we would, but we’ll see."

Singer also said in a previous interview that the movie would have the most mass destruction in any X-Men movie to date.

"We're going to deal the the [sic] notion of ancient mutants - the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago. But it'll be a contemporary movie - well, it'll take place in the '80s... The '80s is a period now - it's hard for me to believe that! Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."

He also said that the 1980s set film could feature younger versions of some of the other older characters that we've seen in previous movies. I'm glad that Singer is directing, I loved what he did with Days of Future Past, and it seems like he's on a creative roll with the franchise.

Fox will release X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th, 2016.

In the latest episode of Man at Arms: Reforged, the team of blacksmiths at Baltimore Knife and Sword create a badass sword for Iron Man. This is what they imagine a sword for the superhero would look like if he had one. It's always cool to watch the process of how they bring these weapons to life, and this one turned out great. I could definitely see Iron Man wielding this thing around.

BETTER CALL SAUL Teaser - "Amen"

AMC has released a very short teaser for Better Call Saul, and he's looking for an "Amen." There's a lot of buzz surrounding this Breaking Bad spin-off series, and I trust that creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are going to give fans something they will love. This tease is just a tiny little taste of what they are brewing for the show.

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

Better Call Saul will debut on AMC in February 2015.

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow released the photo above from the set of the film to celebrate the first day of Autumn. This may give fans of the original movie a nostalgic moment.

This is the same sign from Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park that points the way to one of the East Docks, which was hit over when Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) was trying to escape from Isla Nublar. I don't know if there's any hidden meaning behind this photo, or if it is just a fun tease that we should take at face value. Either way, the movie comes out on June 12th, 2015.

The piece features several of the main characters in the film and Baymax launching into action to fight a serpent-like creature made out of microbots. This gives you a good idea of the epic action scenes that you will see in this movie.

SOUTH PARK Clip from Season 18 Premiere - “Go Fund Yourself”

Something has been missing in my life for too long, and that is new episodes of South Park. I don’t know if it’s because Season 17 was 4 episodes short of the show’s usual 14 episode run, or if it’s just Netflix and Hulu binge watching ruining my perspective of how long it can take between seasons of shows, but it feels like it’s been an eternity since our last adventure with Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. Well, the wait is almost over. Season 18 will kick off this Wednesday, and Comedy Central has released a preview from the first episode which takes aim at crowd funding and the offensive name of Washington’s football team.

Here’s the full episode synopsis:

The boys launch a Kickstarter campaign and get down to business on an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Go Fund Yourself” premiering Wednesday, September 24 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. After Cartman and the boys name their new company, The Washington Redskins, they just sit back and watch the funding roll in. The head coach of the Washington Redskins football team demands that they change the name but Cartman digs in his heels. The Washington Redskins may never mean the same thing ever again.

Roberto Orci Wants William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in STAR TREK 3

$

It looks like William Shatner is finally going to get his chance to be in one of these new Star Trek movies. He was originally supposed to have a very small part in J.J. Abrams' first movie that you can read about here, but they decided not to follow through with it. With Roberto Orci on board to write and direct Star Trek 3 there's a chance we could see Shatner in the film alongside Leonard Nimoy. According to a report by Badass Digest, that's exactly what Orci wants, and all Shatner has to do is accept the offer.

According to the site, Orci's current script for the third movie features a scene that will reteam Shatner and Nimoy as Kirk and Spock, which would be amazing to see after all of these years. If it happens, this would be the first time that that they've shared the screen together since 1991s Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. This is a huge deal for fans, and I would love to see it happen!

The movie starts shooting in six months and we have to keep in mind that anything can change between now and then. There's also a chance that Shatner might not be interested in doing it, which would be a shame. He has expressed interest in being a part of the rebooted franchise in the past, but he wasn't invited to the first two Star Trek parties so his outlook may have changed.

Shatner was a little upset that he wasn't included in the first movie, and even accused J.J. Abrams was "being a pig," in regards to the director taking on both Star Wars and Star Trek franchises. He's made other sarcastic comments as well, but as you know... there is truth in all sarcasm. The actor has since apologized to the filmmaker for his comments.

Who knows what will happen at this point though. There is no word on how Shatner and Nimoy would fit into the story, but the way Abrams set up the new timeline of the universe could allow for the return of Shatner. If they've been looking for a way make it happen, it sounds like Orci must have come up with an idea that works for the universe.
