Trailer for the Horror Thriller THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN

trailer-for-the-horror-thriller-the-town-that-dreaded-sundown

We've got a trailer for a new film with a great title called The Town that Dreaded Sundown. It's just one of those movie titles that perfectly roll off the tongue. The movie is a remake of a 1976 thriller that was based on a true story about a series of killings that afflicted a small town in the 1940s. The original film actually inspired one of the looks for Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th franchise. As a person that enjoys watching horror movies, this looks interesting to me, so I'll be checking it out. Of course, it's going to have some ridiculous moments, like the hotel room scene that you'll see in the trailer, but the ridiculousness is all part of what makes some horror movies fun to watch. Here's the synopsis:

Based on a terrifying true story, The Town That Dreaded Sundown picks up sixty-five years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, when the "moonlight murders” begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl, with dark secrets of her own, may be the key to catching the murderer.

The movie is set to premiere at Fantastic Fest and then play at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles and the BFI London Film Festival. It will open in theaters on October 16th.

LEGO has revealed that their next Ultimate Collector Edition set will be Boba Fett's Slave I ship from Star Wars. It consists of 1,996 pieces and comes with minifigs, which includes its pilot Boba Fett, a stormtrooper, a Bespin guard, and a duo and two Han Solos… one in carbonite and one not. There's a lot of cool details as well. I love the chip paint on some of the LEGO bricks. The set will be released later this year and will cost about $200.

Keanu Reeves' Head is a Bomb in Poster for JOHN WICK

keanu-reeves-head-is-a-bomb-in-poster-for-john-wick

A poster has been released for Keanu Reeves' upcoming action-thriller John Wick. In the film, Reeves head is a bomb that's about to explode, and he needs to do everything he can to put out the fuse before it does. Ok, that not the real synopsis, but it's the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the poster. Here's the actual synopsis:

An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, JOHN WICK (Keanu Reeves) is a fresh and stylized take on the "assassin genre".

The movie also stars Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe. It's set to be released on  October 24th, and the trailer for the movie will be released on Friday, so stay tuned!

Mark Ruffalo Asked Rian Johnson if He Could be in STAR WARS

Writer and director Rian Johnson is hard at work developing Star Wars: Episodes VIII and IX for Lucasfilm, and in this early process actors are already asking to be in the franchise. One of these actors is Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk in the Marvel films. He also worked with Johnson on a spectacular little film called The Brothers Bloom, which you need to see if you haven't already.

Ruffalo admitted to emailing the director to congratulate him on the job and also let him know that he’d love to be involved. Johnson then responded on Twitter. This is what the actor had to say in an interview with Collider:

"My e-mail to Rian after all these years was, 'Rian, congratulations on everything you’ve been doing.  And by the way, if there’s a part in Star Wars, please, anything, please consider considering me to join you.'"

He also said he'd be cool with it even if it was just a CG character. Here's Johnson's Twitter response:

"I don't know, Mark... @garywhitta tells me he has you booked up for the next 8 years on his Columbo franchise?"

This led to Warcraft director Duncan Jones responding with:

"Darth Hulk!"

And screenwriter Gary Whitta chiming in with:

"May The Falk Be With You!"

It's a lot of joking around, but in all seriousness, if Johnson does find a role for Ruffalo, you can bet he'll give it to him.

Stephen King Loves the Script for THE STAND Film Adaptation

Director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is the man who will bring Stephen King's novel The Stand to the big screen, and I can't help but think that he's going to nail it. The guy has a true love for King's work, and he knows exactly what he wants out of this thing.

In a recent interview with Collider, he revealed that he finished the script a month ago, and that he showed it to King, who loved it!

"I finished writing the script maybe a month ago. Stephen [King] absolutely loved it. It’s, I think, the first script ever approved by him. [It’ll be] a single version movie of The Stand. Three Hours. It hews very closely to the novel."

I wondered how anyone would be able to take that story and cut it into a 3-hour movie, but apparently Boone pulled it off and got the Stephen King stamp of approval. This is exciting news for anyone who is a fan of King's work. Of course, he's not going to be able to fit everything from the book into the movie he's making, but it will convey that epic scale of the story. So how did the writer and director choose what would go and what would stay to keep the core of the story? He goes on to explain, saying:

"I'm so familiar with [King’s] work and I’ve read so many of his books so many times over the years that it was a just a really comfortable thing to be able to work with his material. He gives you so much material to work with. There’s an abundance of it. So it’s not a book where you have to generate new material and make it work for a movie…I just focused on the things that I felt strongly about, that I have strong memories about, that are evocative to me even when I read it now. You just have an internal interest meter. The Stand is about so many things – you could make ten to fifteen different movies and focus on a different aspect of it. I just focused on the things that were more important to me and felt essential to me and were based in the characters."

I was a little apprehensive about Boone directing this movie at first, but I think he's going to be the guy to get it done, and get it done right. In a previous interview, he also said that the movie will be rated R, and that it will have "an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome."

The guy is so excited about this project and it shows every time he talks about it. I seriously can't wait to see his vision come to life.

Simon Kinberg on STAR WARS REBELS' Connection to EPISODE VII

simon-kinberg-on-star-wars-rebels-connection-to-episode-vii

We've already heard rumors about the new animated series Star Wars Rebels connecting to Star Wars: Episode VII, but now it has been confirmed by screenwriter Simon Kinberg in an interview with EW. He talks a little bit about the process of how that all works in the statement below.

"It's a very integrated process, there’s real communication between all the filmmakers because we're all part of a larger timeline. There is absolutely communication and integration between the different stories. We are very aware of what they're doing in VII, and we also have to click into place with Episode IV."

So not only will Rebels bridge the gap between the original and prequel trilogies, which will include lots of "set-ups and Easter eggs," they'll also be preparing fans for what to expect in the movie when it's released next December. He goes on to tease:

"There are characters, vehicles, imagery that are introduced in the show before we've ever seen them in the movies, possibly including VII."

How cool is that!? It gives fans of the franchise even more of a reason to watch the animated series. Star Wars Rebels is set to premiere as a TV movie on Friday, October 3rd at 9:00 p.m. on Disney Channel, and the series itself starts on Monday, October 13th 9:00 p.m. on Disney XD.

I've also included some newly released images from the series.

STAR TREK: TOS Would Have Looked Great in Widescreen

star-trek-tos-would-have-looked-great-in-widescreen

Ever wonder what Star Trek: The Original Series would have looked like had it been shot in the widescreen format now used for television? For being produced in the 1960s this was really a great looking show, and would have looked awesome in widescreen with all of its spectacular visuals. It's just stuck in that old-school 4x3 format, but artist Nick Acosta unlocked it, and came up with a great idea to take some scenes where the camera panned in a shot and merge it together into one image. Here's an explanation from Acosta:

"Using HD screen caps from my friends at Trekcore.com, I created this project of what the show would have looked like in Cinerama widescreen. As a kid the show always felt bigger and more epic than it appears to me as an adult. I was able to create these shots by waiting for the camera to pan and then I stitched the separate shots together."

As you'll see, the results are epic and stunning. It's been so long since I've seen the series, I forgot how colorful it was! It was a nice treat to see these. Thanks to Badass Digest

FOX has released a bunch of new images from their upcoming Simpsons and Family Guy crossover episode, "The Simpson's Guy." In case you missed it, you can watch 5-minutes of the episode here

I fell in love with The Simpson's all over again when FXX ran the Every Episode Ever Marathon, and this episode looks like it going to be hilarious. Here's the synopsis:

Peter (Seth MacFarlane) and the Griffins get out of dodge and end up in Springfield, where they are greeted by a friendly stranger named Homer Simpson (guest voice Dan Castellaneta), who welcomes his new “albino” friends with open arms. The families get along famously: Stewie (MacFarlane) becomes obsessed with Bart (guest voicec Nancy Cartwright) and his old-fashioned pranks; Lisa (guest voice Yeardley Smith) takes Meg (Mila Kunis) under her wing and is determined to find something – anything – at which she excels; Marge (guest voice Julie Kavner) and Lois (Alex Borstein) ditch housework for a little bonding; and Peter and Homer fight over the best beer in town – Pawtucket vs Duff.

"The Simpson's Guy" is set to air on September 28th!

Alex Kurtzman Discusses a "Much Darker" VENOM

$
0
0

Star Trek co-writer Alex Kurtzman is currently developing a Venom movie for Sony Pictures that he will direct. Venom is a crazy and cool character and one of my favorites in Spider-Man's universe. I like his dark personality and what he brings to the stories that he's in. Kurtzman discusses this stuff in a recent interview with MTV, and talks about why he wanted to work with the character.

"Well, Venom is sort of the flip side in that there are certain lines that Spider-Man won’t cross because he’s Peter Parker and Peter Parker will only do certain things and Venom is an entirely different character. Venom, in a weird way, is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character. I wouldn’t even really say more complicated because I think they’re both very complicated characters, but I think the attraction for me to Venom is the idea that you can do things that you can’t do with Spider-Man."

I'm curious to see how he will handle bringing this character to the big screen. Sam Raimi brought Vemon into Spider-Man 3, but it didn't really work well. It could have been done so much better. With a stand alone Venom film, though, Kurtzman will be able to explore the character in depth, which is something I'm excited about seeing.

It was previously rumored that the movie would be called Venom Carnage, which indicates that the villain Carnage could be in it as well, which would be insane! Carnage is just pure evil. I've always wanted to see Carnage brought to life in the movies, so I hope this rumor ends up being true.

There's no word on whether Spider-Man will make an appearance in the Venom movie, but Kurtzman goes on to optimistically talk about the hero:

"Spider-Man has always occupied its own wonderful unique space. The stories have evolved. You know, Spider-Man has the benefit of having so many more movies than even some of the movies that have 2s and 3s in front of them from Marvel. I think as long as it keeps staying true to character, and true to who Peter is, and putting him in interesting and complicated situations, it’ll survive. Because it’s so beloved. Everybody loves Spider-Man."

Sony has got some solid talent working on the upcoming Spider-Man films, so hopefully they turn out awesome.

Apple has released a new ad called "Perspective," and it's really quite inspiring. It features a series of optical illusions inspired by the art of Felice Varini. The ad it self also could have been inspired by the music video for OK Go's "The Writing on the Wall," which I also included for your viewing entertainment. The Apple video came along with the caption:

"Here's to those who have always seen things differently."

Apple recently unveiled their new iPhone 6, iWatch, payment system, and U2 record. I'm still not sold on that iWatch though. Check it out the ad!

Live-Action TEEN TITANS Series May Get Pilot Order at TNT

Warner Bros. is on a roll with their comic book TV series. They've got Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Constantine, and a Supergirl series is in development. Now they are on the verge of getting a pilot order from TNT for a live-action version of Teen Titans

The series is called Titans, and it "revolves around the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others."

The show is currently being written by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes. They will also be executive producers on the project. This is a promising project that could prove to be successful. After all, Nightwing is kind of a badass.

Warner Bros. is doing really well with their TV productions. Would you tune in to watch a Titans project like this?

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII — Leaked Photo of Black and Chrome X-Wing

$

We recently posted aerial photos of the Millennium Falcon and a covered X-Wing fighter from Star Wars: Episode VII. That photo was taken by a local flight school — the FlyMAC.

Latino-Review got a huge scoop and received set photos taken by aerial drone. Yes, technology is awesome and scary. The team behind this is Paul K, Brad3DLP, Longerfellow, and Dr. Moose. The level of set spying has gone into a new crazy territory with these photos. I’m not sure how studios can protect against drones.

This large image has two full sized X-Wings (uncovered) and about three more flat ones. I love that J.J. Abrams is using in-camera effects and not just relying on CGI set extension for the X-wings in the back. Also in the photo is half of a full-sized Millennium Falcon.

The most interesting part of these photos is a black, chrome, and orange X-Wing. I wish this photo was sharper. We don’t know who this belongs to, and I’m not going to even try to speculate. Latino-Review has a lot more photos and analysis that you should checkout.

If you want to see what the X-Wing looks like up close, watch the video with Abrams talking about Star Wars: Force for Change.

Star Wars: Episode VII hit theaters December 18th, 2015.

Paul Greengrass to Direct Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in New Movie

Paul Greengrass is looking to diect Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in a new film set up at Fox that tells the true story of a security guard named Richard Jewell. The movie is based on a 1997 Vanity Fair article by Marie Brenner called "The Ballad Of Richard Jewell."

Hill is playing Jewell, who was the security guard that discovered a backpack full of explosives in the Olympics compound at the 1996 Atlanta games. "Initially hailed a hero for reporting the suspicious knapsack and then helping clear bystanders from the area before it exploded, Jewell was subsequently vilified just three days later as a potential suspect, his life and reputation torn apart in the advent of the 24 hour news cycle."

Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play a lawyer described as "a Southern attorney who mostly did real estate closings and seemed in over his head, but he guided Jewell through a hellish Twilight Zone that went on even after the FBI officially cleared Jewell’s name three months later."

Greengrass recently directed Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks, but has also worked on films such as The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy, United 93, and more. Greengrass is a talented director, and this seems like a movie that would fit his style. It will also be good to see DiCaprio and Hill working together again! If you saw The Wolf of Wall Street, then you know they make a fantastic on-screen duo.

Morgan Freeman Cast in New BEN-HUR Film

morgan-freeman-cast-in-new-ben-hur-film

The first official casting announcement has been made by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov for MGM's Ben-Hur. He has cast Morgan Freeman in the role of Ildarin, "the man who teaches the slave Ben-Hur to become a champion caliber chariot racer." Freeman will be awesome in the film. Why wouldn't he be? The actor is great in everything he's in.

The studio and director are still looking to cast the main character in the story, Judah Ben-Hur, and his friend turned rival Messala. A few weeks ago it was reported that Tom Hiddleston was wanted for the lead role, but there's no word on whether that is still the case.

The film will be based on the 1880 Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ, and according to Deadline,

"This version plays up the parallel storyline of Jesus Christ, but the focus is the blood feud between Judah Ben-Hur and Messala, who grew up best friends before the Roman Empire took control of Jerusalem. Judah Ben-Hur was a Jewish prince and Messala the son of a Roman tax collector. After the latter leaves to be educated in Rome for five years, the young man returns with a different attitude and mocks Judah and his religion. When a procession passes by Judah’s house and a roof tile accidentally falls and hits the governor, Messala betrays his childhood friend and manipulates the accident so that Judah is sold into slavery and certain death on a Roman warship, with his mother and sister thrown in prison for life. Judah vows revenge, culminating in the famed chariot races."

I'm really curious to see what Bekmambetov's vision for this movie is going to look like. I'm a big fan of the original 1959 film, but an updated version could be cool. We'll just have to wait and see.

If you're a fan of horror, The Babadook is a must see movie. This thing is a freakin' nightmare of greatness that will make fans of the horror genre very happy. To check out the most recent trailer for this bad boy, click here. And to read my review for the movie, click here. This is a horror movies that I can't wait to show people when it's released. I just love the monster they came up with for this story. Today we have a new poster to share with you thanks to Empire

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

There's still no U.S. release date for it,  but when it does come out, don't hesitate to watch it… unless you scare easily. And if that's the case, go see it anyway, you could use a good scare. The movie will be released in the UK on October 24th.
