Trailer for Movie Poster Doc - TWENTY-FOUR BY THIRTY-SIX

trailer-for-movie-poster-doc-twenty-four-by-thirty-six

This is a trailer for a great looking documentary on the history of movie posters calledTwenty-Four By Thirty-Six. It was directed by Kevin Burke and it will take us through the history of movie posters from their earliest conception, through the golden age of Hollywood, all the way to the limited edition screen prints that are being created independently by artists from all over the world. This looks like it could be a really interesting doc.

/Film reached out to the director of the film, who offered the following statement:

"I’m really excited about where Twenty-Four by Thirty-Six is headed and how far it’s come along – we’re about 80% of the way through production and couldn’t be happier with the way the story has come together. One of the most incredible things about documentary is that no matter how much you research, once you start rolling you will always learn something new and be treated to unanticipated perspectives. It’s a really organic process that allows the film to drive itself in a way. In late October we’re doing an Eastern US road trip over a span of 10 days where we’ll be interviewing a ton of poster art world personalities – there are truly too many to name. We’re hoping to hit the UK for a similar trip in December or January and that will wrap production. I’ve already begun cutting the film into a skeleton, knowing that changes will be made as new footage is gathered, but I’m trying to stay ahead of the curve so that we’re on point to hit festivals in early 2015.August 28th to 31st we’ll be promoting the film in Toronto at our booth at Fan Expo Canada – it’s like the Canadian SDCC. Our booth will be flanked on either side by Paul Ainsworth and Matt Tobin who created the awesome prints for our Kickstarter campaign. While there I’ll also be co-moderating (with my fiancée and co-producer Andrea Butler) a panel/Q&A on horror art presented by Rue Morgue Magazine featuring Gary Pullin, Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, Jason Edmiston, and a really talented artist named Andrew Wright. Any Canadian art fans should come by and see us!"

Check out the trailer!

We've got a great piece of poster art created for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which comes from artist Paul Shipper. The poster was created for the Austin Film Society Texas premiere event. There will be a limited edition of 200 prints that will be on sale at The Paramount Theatre at the premiere of the film, which takes place on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014, with directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, as well as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, in attendance. The posters will cost $45.

I've also included a new behind the scenes featurette for the movie that focuses on the 3D aspect of the film. The movie was specifically made to be shown in 3D, so maybe this will be worth checking out in 3D. Thanks to /Film for the video.

Disney will be releasing a series of four Star Wars Rebels shorts prior to the premiere of the new animated series. The first short is called "The Machine in the Ghost" and it's now available for you to watch below.

In “The Machine in the Ghost,” a special Star Wars Rebels short, the rebels’ Ghost starship is under attack by a wave of TIE fighters. Hera pilots the craft, while Kanan tries to blast the Imperials from the Ghost’s gunner. While they do evade and shoot down several TIEs, it’s up to astromech droid Chopper to finish the job – even if he’s reluctant to do so.

I've also included a clip from the next short from USAToday, which sees Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar) tagging some Tie-Fighters.

If you haven't seen this horror comedy masterpiece yet, it's definitely one you need to check out. I want a print of this poster! If you do too, you can buy it here for $15.

FX has announced that American Horror Story: Freak Show, the fourth season in the horror anthology series, will premiere on Wednesday, October 8th at 10pm ET/PT.

The story is set in 1950s Juniper, FL, and centers around one of the last remaining freak shows of the time. From bearded ladies to Siamese twins, it will feature some familiar faces from the series. Returning stars include Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, and Evan Peters. AHS newcomers include Michael Chiklis, Wes Bentley, John Carroll Lynch, Finn Wittrock, and Patti LaBelle.

Earlier in the week, Showrunner Ryan Murphy tweeted a photo with the world's smallest woman, Jyoti Amge, who has also joined the cast.

I've had a fascination with the history of freak shows for a long time, and I think this new season of the show could be the best one yet.

You can see some of the other stuff we've posted in the past here. The guy has a very fun and playful style that I enjoy.

Insane Trailer for the Horror Film THE DEMON'S ROOK

The Demon's Rook looks like a crazy fun movie that channels a lot of the things I loved about 1980s horror films. It's a low-budget movie that uses some really cool and creepy practical effects and makeup. This trailer gives you a sense of the insanity that you'll see in the film, and I can't help but smile.

Chaos descends upon a quiet town when Roscoe, the pupil of a wizard monk from an ancient race of demons, unknowingly opens a portal that allows an unspeakable evil to travel freely into our world. When three grisly beasts cross into our dimension, the living are possessed and the dead rise to destroy everything in their path. Armed with demons’ magic, Roscoe is the only fighting chance to put an end to their eternal path of destruction.

The film was directed by James Sizemore, and it will be released on iTunes and VOD September 30th.

Here's an awesome animated short that shows us what Doctor Who might be like as an animated series that followed the adventures of the Twelfth Doctor and Clara. The video was created by Stephen Byrne, and it's done as an opening sequence. It comes complete with animated reimaginings of a Dalek, a Weeping Angel, a Cyberman, and more. If you like it, you can see more of his art here, here, and here. Thanks to The Mary Sue.

EQUALIZER TV Spot Teases New Eminem Song

A TV spot for Antoine Fuqua‘s action thriller The Equalizer, which stars Denzel Washington and Chloë Grace Moretz has been released. Not only does the spot include some new footage from the film, but it also teases the new Eminem track that will debut in the movie. The song is called "Guts Over Fear," and it sounds like it going to be another awesome song from the artist.

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by — he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

The Equalizer opens September 26th and also stars Melissa Leo, Martin Csokas, and Bill Pullman.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Main Villain Concept Art

Fan Art by Lyndon Berresford

Last week a ton of Star Wars: Episode VII news was exploding all over the place. One of the main pieces of information included who the villains in the story would be. Indie Revolver now has a piece of concept art featuring the main villain. If you don't want to see the art or know any other information about him, then don't read ahead or scroll to the bottom because there are SPOILERS ahead!

The main villain is a Sith Inquisitor, and the site describes him as being "tall and thin and terrifyingly creepy, with glowing red eyes to match his red lightsaber." They go on to say that he’s "got some robotic upgrades, like Vader – but no mask. The cybernetic bits weave in and out of him. He’s got a human upper lip, a steel jaw… and the robotic hand that J.J. Abrams posted an image of." You can see that image here.

We’ll get a background of this character in some flashbacks that will include a young Princess Leia and Darth Vader’s involvement with the Sith during his prime. Apparently, this Inquisitor has a fascination with Vader, and as you will see, in the concept art below he's looking at Vader's shattered helmet.

This is kind of a terrifying-looking character, and I'm excited to see what he looks like when he's brought to life.

Fast-Paced Trailer for the Web Thriller OPEN WINDOWS with Elijah Wood

0
0

A thrilling new trailer has been released for Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey's new movie Open Windows. The movie comes from Timecrimes director Nacho Vigolando, and it looks great. I love the concept and how the story is told through several different forms of technology.

Jill (Sasha Grey) is a famous actress who has refused to have dinner with Nick (Elijah Wood), a fan who won a date with her in an Internet contest organized by the distributor of her latest film. In return, a guy named Chord (Neil Maskell), posing as Jill's campaign manager, tries to help Nick by letting him watch her through his computer. But the superfan soon realizes he's just a pawn in a dangerous game devised by Chord in order to hunt down the star.

The story unfolds on the screen of a laptop connected using the internet. The real-time feature has been described as "90 minutes of suspense in a tense, fast-paced, high-tech thriller with action and terror, updating the key elements of 70s paranoid thrillers through today’s computer and online environment." Here's what the director had to say about it:

"Just as in Brian De Palma’s Blow Out, the girl is captured. The hero will have to use every means at his disposal to discover where she is, and rescue her from the villain before its too late.

"The action will be followed on the screen of a laptop connected to the Internet – an approach that has excited us all from the outset. Something like this means going beyond high concept films like Paranormal ActivityCloverfield or Chronicle. Instead of simulating a home video camera, we will be representing a computer desktop. The movie screen becomes a computer screen, and the spectator becomes the protagonist of this adventure.

"Open Windows is full of twists, but it’s essentially a 90-minute chase, a continuous climax with unrelenting tension… it is also a powerful viral tool, with a wide potential for different audiences."

12 different cameras were used to make the movie, including webcams, head cameras, tablets, mobile phones, and 3D mapping cameras as well as security and satellite cameras. The movie will be released on September 29th.

Robin Williams Tribute Art by Jeff Victor

This extraordinary piece of Robin Williams tribute art was created by Jeff Victor. It features cartoon versions of several characters that Williams has portrayed over the the years in TV and film. The artist shared his thoughts about Williams in the statement below.

"My tribute to the illustrious career of Robin Williams. Obviously, there are many, many more movies that could be included in this piece, but I tried to represent as many highlights as I could. This particular Evolution was quite emotional to draw. Williams' work was so meaningful to me, and a big part of my childhood. His death is a loss for us all. I'm not very eloquent at eulogizing, so hopefully my art will speak for itself and remind you of the joy you felt watching his films.

"I am selling this piece as a print here, and for every copy I sell, I am donating $5.00 to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, a charity Williams was very passionate about."

Han Solo Rumors for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

han-solo-rumors-for-star-wars-episode-vii

It looks like we're in for another week of Star Wars: Episode VII rumors. Last week we got a look at the new stormtrooper designs, some Han Solo concept art, and some villain information. Then, earlier today we posted some concept art of the new villain, and now we have some really interesting information on Han Solo! SPOILERS ahead!

Earlier in the week a report surfaced that Han and Chewie no longer have the Millennium Falcon and that it's possibly being piloted by Oscar Issac's character now. Apparently, the two lost it while gambling. According to Indie Revolver, Han and Chewie are actually piloting a freakin' Super Star Destroyer in Episode VII!

"Han and Chewie are piloting a Super Star Destroyer….I believe the Falcon is in the hands of Oscar Isaac’s character, who is very much the Lando Calrissian of this movie – all the way down to wearing a cape. There are other familiar spaceships in this movie, including three variations on TIE Fighters. There’s the classic design, the TIE Interceptor and a new generation TIE Bomber – the pods on these are stacked, not side-by-side."

The site also mentions a little something that is sure to get fans excited,

"Back to Han – you will get to see him use a lightsaber once again."

Oh, hell yeah! I hope he actually uses it in battle! The last time we saw Han with a lightsaber is when he used Luke's to cut open the Tauntaun that he shoved Luke into to keep him warm. As far the the Super Star Destroyer goes, I have no idea why they would be flying that huge thing around, but I love the idea of it. If they lost the Millennium Falcon, they had to get their hands on some kind of ship to get around in, so why not a Super Star Destroyer?

This is all just a rumor right now from a site that seems to have a lot of information on the movie. This stuff really isn't hard for me to believe, though. Anything is possible in this universe. I'll leave it to your discretion whether or not you want to believe any of this.

Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE Will Not Tell an Origin Story

0
0

It sounds like Marvel is looking to move away from origin stories and like we specifically won't be getting one in the Doctor Strange film that is being directed by Scott Derrickson. The news came from Badass Digest's Devin Faraci while he was a guest on Meet The Movie Press. This is exactly what he had to say about it:

"So, for Doctor Strange they've had a script in-house forever. It is a pretty standard origin story for Doctor Strange. It's got Baron Mordo as the bad guy. That's all gone. Marvel's new thing is no more origin stories. So, Doctor Strange movie no longer has an origin. It begins in medias res. It has Doctor Strange already established as the Sorcerer Supreme. It is a totally new script. Jon Spaihts is working totally new, on his own, without any of the previous stuff. Not even touching the previous script."

I hope this is true because I love the idea of bypassing the origin story and just getting right into the meat of the character. What's interesting about this is that in a separate interview with Screen Rant about a week ago, Kevin Fiege talked about the character, and how awesome his origin story is. It sounds like that's exactly what Marvel is going for.

"With Strange, it is a classic Marvel origin story because he’s got one of the best origins ever. And it’s our opportunity to take that left turn into the supernatural. Now, what is the definition of supernatural? It varies. We like the idea of playing with alternate dimensions. The very sort of crazy – [Steve] Ditko crazy acid trip way of traveling through dimensions and traveling through other realms is something that we think is very, very cool … playing with the perceptions of reality.

"I just watched the Neil deGrasse Tyson Cosmos series, which is amazing, and which may as well be an acid trip. It is mind-bending and it’s all based in physics and based in quantum mechanics. We’re going to play a lot with the notion of that as an explanation for how the sorcerers do what they do."

Doctor Strange is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and I'm excited for whatever the studio and Derrickson are planning for him.

THE WIZARD - Lucas Barton Action Figure

"I love the Power Glove… It's so bad."

The 1989 movie The Wizard was such a cool movie at the time. Not only did the movie introduce the world to Super Mario Bros. 3, but it also introduced the Nintendo Power Glove, which was used by some douchebag kid named Lucas Barton. An action figure for this character was actually created by Electric Fang for the Bottleneck Gallery. Joseph Bouganim, co-founder of Bottleneck Gallery, had this to say in a statement:

"Growing up in a video store for most of my life, The Wizard was the perfect escape film for me as a child. When I saw Electric Fang was working on a toy for the film, I jumped at a chance to collaborate with them on a release."

Unfortunately, they are all sold out, but it was cool that they actually did a small run that fans could buy. Thanks to Toys R Evil.

Sylvester Stallone Training for RAMBO V

0000000000119.jpg

It looks like Sylvester Stallone really is going to come back for Rambo V. The sequel was in development back in 2009, and at the time it was called Rambo V: Savage Hunt. It was shut down in 2011. The most recent news regarding Rambo was that a couple of production companies who were developing a TV series were also going to develop the fifth film.

We learned that this time Rambo would be going up against a Mexican cartel. "Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country for Old Men." That should definitely be interesting. Stallone has now confirmed himself that he is getting really for Rambo V. This is what he said in a interview with Vulture,

"I’m getting ready for that. I’m starting to work out. I’m going to be appropriately vicious and all that stuff, but intellectual. A killer with a heart. Smart, yet stupid. Tall, yet short. Broad, but thin. You know what I mean. We’re going to try to cover all the boundaries."

The sequel was originally supposed to be an adaptation of a novel written by James Byron Huggins called Hunter, but it doesn't sound like that's the case anymore. It definitely would have been a very different adventure for Rambom as he would have gone up against a "half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments."

I enjoy the Rambo franchise, and it will be good to see Stallone come back and go ballistic again.
