Here's a great clip from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy that features Drax (Dave Bautista) about to kill the crap out Gamora (Zoe Saldana). That is, until Star Lord (Chris Pratt) hilariously intervenes to stop him. I love how this scene plays out! Damn, this movie is going to be amazing! The film hits theaters on August 1st.
Last week I saw some rumors about Sony Pictures' Sinister Six film being cancelled. I never posted the rumors because it sounded like pure speculation, and it was. The studio has announced that they will release the villainous Spider-Man spin-off film on November 11th, 2016. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will follow a couple years later and is going to be released in 2018. It was supposed to be June 10th, 2016, but Sony moved their Uncharted film adaptation into that spot.
Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) is attached to write the film, which will expand the Spider-Man cinematic universe. He may end up directing it as well.
The supervillains first appeared in 1964, and they included Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, and the Vulture. I assume Spider-Man is also going to be a main character in this film. I don't see how they could make a movie without him. Both projects will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

Screen Junkies has released an Honest Trailer for the ridiculous film Divergent. I don't know how many of you even saw the movie, but it was as bad as it looked. Actually, it may have been even worse, but it makes great fuel for an Honest Trailer!
Divergent is just the latest YA phenomenon to hit the big screen - but something about this movie left us hungering for more. Relive the romance, the complicated rules, and the nagging feeling that this film seems REALLY familiar.
Legendary actor Michael Cain will star alongside Vin Diesel in Lionsgate's supernatural action film The Last Witch Hunter. I never thought I'd ever see those two actors star in a movie together. It's just an interesting team up.
The film is being directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies), and it also stars Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie. According to THR, the story centers on "an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) who partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity."
This could be a fun movie, as I'm usually a fan of the films that both Diesel and Caine are involved with. Eisner is also a talented director. There's no information on who Caine will play in the story, but he will next be seen in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.
As you may have noticed, here at GeekTyrant we are big Disney Princess fans. Disney Princess art, Disney Princess parodies, Disney Princesses dressed up as better, cooler characters… we love it all. But if we’re going to be honest, some of the Princesses are kind of wimpy, poorly characterized, or totally lacking in agency. Like, what was Aurora’s defining characteristic in the original Sleeping Beauty? I don’t know. It was a cool story, but like some of the other princesses, she was a little bit boring.
Enter Rejected Princesses, a website devoted to “women too awesome, awful, or offbeat to get their own animated movies.” The brainchild of former Dreamworks animator Jason Porath, Rejected Princesses gives somewhat forgotten women their due. Each post features a fantastic Disney Princess-style illustration, plus a write up of why the woman is so interesting/unlikely to make the Disney vault. Like, Wu Zetian was really interesting and ambitious, but there’s never going to be a theme park attraction built around a woman who murdered her own children to get ahead. She’s just too awful. On the awesome side of things is Mai Bhago, the Sikh Warrior Saint, who was the protector of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is illustrated cutting off the head of one of her enemies.

Next Games and AMC have announced a new mobile game for The Walking Dead called The Walking Dead: No Man's Land. They've released a trailer and a bunch of details that you can read in the press release they provided below. I'm really not a big fan of mobile games, but this actually could be decent.
Next Games and AMC released today the first trailer for the new The Walking Dead mobile game, based on the incredibly popular AMC series. The never-before-seen trailer will also be shown at AMC’s The Walking Dead booth #4237 at Comic Con International in San Diego from July 24 – 27.
The game, titled The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, will allow players to experience the world of the iconic show through gameplay exclusively developed for smartphones and tablet devices. Developed by Next Games in close collaboration with AMC, the game will feature themes familiar to the TV series, where characters fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic, walker-infested world. A recurring theme of choosing the right survival strategy and making the most human choices possible is at the heart of the first-of-its-kind game.
The game launch will coincide with the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead Season 5 early next year.
“Our approach is to stay true to the main themes of the TV show: survival strategy, finding safety for your people, balancing between right and wrong and, of course, action when it comes to fighting against the hordes of walkers. We respect the creators of The Walking Dead immensely and want this game to portray the world they have created as closely as possible,” said Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO, Next Games.
Founded by design veterans from Rovio, Supercell and Disney, Next Games has assembled a team with a profound love for games and a burning desire to develop lasting global entertainment. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The series tells the story of the months and years after a zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors, led by sheriff Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. Thanks to Warner Bros. we have the first teaser poster for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road. It features Max standing on the post apocalyptic desert wasteland ready for what's coming to him. "What a Lovely Day" indeed.
I don't care what anyone says, from what I've seen so far, this movie looks like it's going to be a badass flick. You can check out some previously released photos here and here to see for yourself. The studio has a panel for the movie taking place in Hall H on Saturday at 10am. You can bet your ass that they will be showing off the first footage of the movie there!
Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by Tom Hardy from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And… Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

THR has released two very fun videos for your viewing entertainment. The first features Nathan Fillion discussing his fandom and Comic-Con experiences. It also shows him all decked out as Captain Kirk. The second video shows us Chris Hardwick dressed up as Marty McFly, and he also discusses his Comic-Con experiences in the past. They both suit these iconic characters so well!
CBS Films has hired Predators screenwriter Michael Finch to write the screenplay for their big screen adaptation of the hit cyberpunk video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The first script was written by Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Derrickson was supposed to direct the movie as well, but dropped out after Marvel hired him to direct Doctor Strange.
Square Enix introduced the game in 2000, and the story is set in the near future, when dramatic advances in human augmentation have triggered a technological renaissance. The protagonist, an ex-SWAT security specialist named Adam Jensen, must embrace mechanical augments in order to unravel a global conspiracy.
Predators was an ok film with a mediocre script, but maybe Finch will be the right fit for this. The video game has a great story concept, and it has a lot of potential to make a very cool movie. I wonder who they'll bring in to replace Derrickson.

Gamestop has now officially (it leaked yesterday) announced the new preorder incentive for Arkham Knight, and it contains the Robin that just wouldn't go away (despite a phone vote to make him do so), Jason Todd, otherwise known as the Red Hood. It will be a story pack, and joins the already announced Harley Quinn story pack.
With these two announcements, Rocksteady has already addressed my main criticism of Arkham City, which was that there wasn't enough additional story content after launch, as most of their DLC revolved around extra costumes and challenge maps. Those are nice, don't get me wrong, but Rocksteady tells a great yarn, so any opportunity to get more of that is welcome.
While they haven't actually said the person under the hood is Jason Todd, there is a part of me that hopes they end up going that route, only so I can see what Rocksteady can do with the character. I might just have to dig out my Under the Hood trade if this turns out to be him.

Lionsgate has revealed an exclusive Comic-Con poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Usually these Comic-Con posters are a lot better than the real ones they release to market the film. I just like the whole artistic aspect of it, rather than the slapped together photoshopped stuff.
The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.
The movie is being directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig. It's scheduled to be released in theaters on November 21st, 2014.
The latest poster for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For features Jessica Alba looking like a crazy badass, who has gone through some very hard times. This is the "soiled" version of Nancy Callahan, who is hellbent on revenge. The movie is set to be released on August 22nd!
Those of you attending San Diego Comic-Con this week should keep your eyes peeled for this awesome life-size and fully-functional Vadermobile! This is part of a promotional campaign by Mattel, who is releasing a new line of Star Wars themed toys at the convention, some of which are Hot Wheels.
According to cnet, "the Vadermobile was built atop a C5 Corvette and prominently features red lightsaber trim on the sides of the car and the wheels. The entire car looks like Vader's iconic mask, and it can reach a top speed of 80 miles per hour."
You can find both the Hot Wheel toy and the life-size version of this car at the Mattel booth.
Disney has announced that they will be releasing Pirates of the Caribbean 5 in theaters on July 7th, 2017. We previously heard that that the sub-title of this movie is "Dead Men Tell No Tales," but that wasn't confirmed in the press release that was set out.
The script for the film comes from Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson, and it's set to be directed by Kon-Tiki's Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. The fact that those two guys are directing gets me excited for this film. They are a couple of insanely talented directors, and I think they have the potential to give audiences the best Pirates of the Caribbean film yet.
Of course Johnny Depp will be back to reprise his role because the studio wouldn't make a Pirates movie without him.
Hot Toys has revealed their awesome new Back to the Future 1/6th scale Marty McFly collectible action figure. It's about time they released this! I hope it does well, because it could open the door for figures from films such as The Goonies, Ghostbusters and other classic 1980 films. I need to get myself one of these!

Marvel Studios has unveiled two concept poster designs for Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. The art is pretty freakin' spectacular, and these bad boys are being handed out at San Diego Comic-Con.
The highly-anticipated sequel stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Cobie Smulders, Thomas Kretschmann, and Paul Bettany.
The movie opens in theaters on May 1st, 2015!
The whole experience of Comic-Con is pretty amazing. Things that you wouldn’t expect fly out of the woodwork. Like this pre-production concept art by Marvel artist Andy Park that features the suit that Paul Rudd will be wearing in Ant-Man. This is a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, and I am happy to say that I am pleased with what they have done with the suit.
Michael Douglas is playing Doctor Hank Pym, the scientist responsible for making the suit. Rudd plays Scott Lang, who steals the suit to make himself a better thief. Of course it is going to be one of those “hooker with a heart of gold” scenarios. Without a doubt we will see Rudd change his ways and use his newfound powers for good.
This has been a project that I have been very interested in for a while. Even with all of the recent director controversy, I feel that Marvel will do everything they can to make sure we, as fans, are entertained.
Filming of Ant-Man will not start until August, however, with the release of this concept art; I don’t think that this will be the last we see of this movie this weekend. Marvel has a panel in Hall H on Saturday, and I will be able to give you a more in-depth look at what the studio has in store for us this next year.
Apparently Marvel forgot to mention a movie release date when they announced five of them a couple days ago. The studio revealed today that they will be releasing a movie on May 4th, 2018.
The other dates previously revealed include July 28th, 2017; November 3rd, 2017; July 6th, 2018; November 2nd, 2018; and May 3rd, 2019. So there are going to be three big Marvel movies in 2018?! Awesome!
Other dates previously announced include July 8th, 2016, Captain America 3 on May 6th, 2016 and then one more for May 5th, 2017.
Lots of release dates here and hardly any movie titles. Hopefully they will unveil some of them on Saturday at their Comic-Con panel.
Focus Features has released four character posters for LAIKA's new animated film The Boxtrolls. The film is based on the book Here Be Monsters, by Alan Snow, and it is being directed by Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable. This is sure to be another fantastic film from the animation studio. The movie is going to have a huge presence at San Diego Comic-Con and I've listed The Boxtroll events after the posters.
The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead Wright of Game of Thrones) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge.
When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnie (Elle Fanning of Maleficent). Together, they devise a daring plan to save Eggs’ family.
The movie hits theaters on September 26th, 2014.

While I was visiting the Legendary booth at Comic-Con, I saw that they had a logo for Duncan Jones' Warcraft along with some badass weaponry from the movie! I took a few photos of them so you can see them for yourself. They were behind some glass so there is some major glare.
The most famous of the weapons is the Doomhammer. It's called the Doomhammer because "when its owner takes it into battle, it spells doom for the enemy." The orc weapon was unleashed in the name of the Horde. They also have the Dragon Sword, and the Lion Shield, which is a symbol of the strength of Azeroth.
Warcraft stars Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Dominic Cooper, Daniel Wu, and Clancy Brown. There's still not much known about the movie or the story, but Foster had this to say about it a few months ago:
"The character in Warcraft that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer. He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle.
"What’s exciting about Duncan Jones’ take on this video game is that it shows both sides of the war. It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a video game turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?"
We expect to see some footage from the film at the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday. We'll make sure to let you know how that is. The film itself is set to open on March 11th, 2016.
