The most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly gives us four new photos from the Batman prequel series Gotham. They feature young Detective Jim Gordon in the middle of an intense situation, a behind-the-scenes shot of Fish Mooney, a shot of Wayne Manor, the future Penguin, and Alfred Pennyworth.

Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

The series is set to premiere on September 22nd.

Here's a very dark and somber series of Batman art created by David Hitchcock. Each one features the Dark Knight as he faces the villains who terrorize Gotham City. I actually like the gloomy mood and style of these pieces. Thanks to XombieDirge for the tip!

Yep, it's a new clip from Guardians of the Galaxy, and it includes Star-Lord getting in a little trouble with Korath and his alien goons. At one point Star-Lord gets annoyed with being pushed around and calls one of the aliens a Ninja Turtle. We've seen bits and pieces of this scene in trailers and previous clips, but this one does offer up some new entertainment. The movie comes out on August 1st!

First Look at Jack Black in GOOSEBUMPS

Remember that Jack Black guy? Well, he's starring in a new movie called Goosbumps, which, as I'm sure you know, is based on the children's horror series of the same name by R.L. Stine. Black actually plays Stine in the film, and in the story the monsters he creates for his book series are alive. Thanks to Bloody Disgusting we have our first look at the movie, which Black talks about in an interview with EW, saying:

"I play R.L. Stine, who’s not in any of the books, but he’s an essential character in this movie, which is all about when all of his characters come to life. It was kind of a great way to bring out all of the scary beasts and monsters from all of his books in one movie."

He went on to talk about the how the book translates to the big screen with all the scares for kids:

"Kids like scary movies, but you can’t take them to what are the big scary movies now where Satan comes out and bites your genitals off. Those movies can actually leave you mentally scared; that’s not for kids. But kids still like to get a little thrill and a little danger, so you need projects like this."

I enjoyed reading these books when I was growing up, and the TV series was actually really good too. It gave me lots of ideas of ways that I could scare my brothers. I hope this movie turns out to be fun. My kids like watching scary movies, so I have to take them to this, I just hope I enjoy it too. Here's the synopsis:

In Goosebumps, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

The movie will hit theaters on August 7th, 2015.

Michael B. Jordan Discusses FANTASTIC FOUR Development

Now for some none Avengers comic book movie news! Director Josh Trank is currently in production on Fantastic Four with Miles Teller as Mr. fantastic, Kate Mara as The Invisible Woman, Jamie Bell as Thing, and Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch. In a recent interview with MTV, Jordan talked about working on the project and how they are in their own world while making it. Here's what he had to say...

Here he talks about the secrecy of the project:

"Yeah, we have been pretty much in our own world, that’s really the only way we could get a project like this done. It is so massive, so many moving parts, so many moving pieces, things are changing every day.

"The script is evolving, [you make] on set decisions on the fly, things are always constantly changing. Me personally, I block out that extra noise and I focus on the job I have to do. It is an important film for all of us… We’re taking it seriously, taking a lot of risks. I think it’s going to pay off."

He then address the issue of the assumption that films like this are planned well in advance:

"As much as everybody thinks that these projects are cemented in years before, they’re not. There’s so many things that you just can’t account for. You know, you can try and plan as much as you want, but you get there on game day and you get thrown a curve ball, I guess, hey, the game plan goes out the window. You’ve got to adapt.

"Josh’s vision is very clear and he knows exactly what he wants, and he gives us room to adapt and to play. That’s what I kind of think sets us apart, is that this is going to be grounded and unconventional."

He then describes the heroes in the story as having disabilities:

"It’s not your typical superhero film, you know, we aren’t looking at this as like, being superheroes. We’re more or less a bunch of kids that had an accident and we have disabilities now that we have to cope with, and try to find a life afterwards – try to be as normal as we can."

Jordan is then asked if the film is going to have more of a Golden Age, kind of a “gee whiz!” approach or if it would by more angsty to which he replied:

"Yeah, I mean we’ve just got layers. We’re trying to make it relatable to people as much as we can [with these] larger than life, larger than this world themes.

"It’s superheroes! You know, not just superheroes. It’s fiction. You’ve got to ground it as much as you can to make [audience members] feel relatable to these characters, no matter what age they are or what time of their life.

"One of the good things about the Fantastic Four is that everybody is different. And it’s like, sometimes family doesn’t always consist of your relatives or by blood. Sometimes your best friends can feel more like family than your cousins.

"I think everybody kind of has that same feeling. When you go through an accident together, when you go through a traumatic event, sometimes that brings you closer together. Yeah, everybody takes their time out to kind of deal with their own stuff, but at the end of the day, you shared a common experience together that you’re able to relate to.

"The people, the public, the fans that are watching this can all relate to that because everybody has had to overcome an obstacle in their life before."

There's a lot of great stuff here from the actor, and it sounds like this could turn out to be a Fantastic Four movie fans could like. I know a lot of people still aren't on board with what they are doing, but people will start really judging it when we start seeing photos and footage from the film.

THE SHINING Prequel OVERLOOK HOTEL Has a Director

the-shining-prequel-overlook-hotel-has-a-director

Warner Bros. has hired Never Let Me Go director Mark Romanek to direct  Overlook Hotel, the studio's prequel to Stephen King's The Shining

The movie will be based on King's original prologue to The Shining, which was cut from the book prior to its publication in 1977.

THR says that it will "tell the origin story of the haunted hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson, a robber baron at the turn of the 20th century."

It looked like Alfonso Cuarón was going to direct it at one point, but I guess things didn't pan out. Romanek is a talented director though, and I think this could be a great project for him. I'm such a huge fan of The Shining, so I'm incredibly stoked for this to happen!

After a little digging I found the prologue online at With Nail Rules. I included the first scene below, but if you want to read the whole thing, click on the link. I suggest you do because it's good!

Scene 1: The Third Floor of a Resort Hotel Fallen Upon Hard Times

It was October 7, 1922, and the Overlook Hotel had closed its doors on the end of another season. When it re-opened in mid-May of 1923, it would be under new management. Two brothers named Clyde and Cecil Brandywine had bought it, good old boys from Texas with more old cattle money and new oil money than they knew what to do with.

Bob T. Watson stood at the huge picture window of the Presidential Suite and stared out at the climbing heights of the Rockies, where the aspens had now shaken most of their leaves, and hoped the Brandywine brothers would fail. Since 1915 the hotel had been owned by a man named James Parris. Parris had begun his professional life as a common shyster in 1880. One of his close friends rose to the presidency of a great western railroad, a robber baron among robber barons. Parris grew rich on his friend’s spoils, but had none of his friend’s colorful flamboyancy. Parris was a gray little man with an eye always turned to an inward set of accounting books. He would have sold the Overlook anyway, Bob T. Watson thought as he continued to stare out the window. The little shyster bastard just happened to drop dead before he got a chance.

The man who had sold the Overlook to James Parris had been Bob T. Watson himself. One of the last of the Western giants that arose in the years 1870 - 1905, Bob T. came from a family that had made a staggering fortune in silver around Placer, Colorado. They lost the fortune, rebuilt it in land speculation to the railroads, and lost most of it again in the depression of ’93 - ’94, when Bob T.’s father was gunned down in Denver by a man suspected of organizing.

Bob T. had rebuilt the fortune himself, single-handedly, in the years 1895 to 1905, and had begun searching then for something, some perfect thing, to cap his achievement. After two years of careful thought (during the interim he had bought himself a governor and a representative to the U.S. Congress), he had decided, in modest Watson fashion, to build the grandest resort hotel in America. It would stand at the roof of America, with nothing in the country at a higher altitude except the sky. It would be a playground of the national and international rich – the people that would be known three generations later as the super-rich.

Construction began in 1907, forty miles west of Sidewinder, Colorado, and supervised by Bob T. himself.

"And do you know what?" Bob T. said aloud in the third-floor suite, which was the grandest set of apartments in the grandest resort hotel in America. "Nothing ever went right after that. Nothing."

The Overlook had made him old. He had been forty-three when ground was broken in 1907, and when construction was completed two years later (but too late for them to be able to open the hotel’s doors until 1910), he was bald. He had developed an ulcer. One of his two sons, the one he had loved best, the one that had been destined to carry the Watson banner forward into the future, had died in a stupid riding accident. Boyd had tried to jump his pony over a pile of lumber where the topiary now was, and the pony had caught its back feet and broken its leg. Boyd had broken his neck.

There had been financial reverses on other fronts. The Watson fortune, which had looked so secure in 1905, had begun to look decidedly shaky in that autumn of 1909. There had been a huge investment in munitions in anticipation of a foreign war that did not happen, and had not happened until 1914. There had been a dishonest accountant in the timbering end of the Watson operation, and although he had been sent to jail for twenty long years, he had done half a million dollars worth of damage first.

Perhaps disheartened by the death of his oldest son, Bob T. had become unwisely convinced that the way to recoup was the way that his father had couped in the first place: silver. There were advisors who contended against this, but after the calumny of the head accountant, who was the son of one of his father’s best friends, Bob T. trusted his advisers less and less. He had refused to believe that Colorado’s mining days were over. A million dollars in dry investments hadn’t convinced him. Two million had. And by the time the Overlook opened its doors in the late spring of 1910, Bob T. realized that he was precariously close to being in shirt-sleeves again … and building on the ruins at the age of forty-five might be an impossibility.

The Overlook was his hope.

The Overlook Hotel, built against the roof of the sky, with its topiary of hedge animals to enchant the children, its playground, its long and lovely croquet course, its putting green for the gentlemen, its tennis courts outside and shuffleboard courts inside, its dining room with the western exposure looking out over the last rising jagged peaks of the Rockies, its ballroom facing east, where the land dropped into green valleys of spruce and pine. The Overlook with its one hundred and ten rooms, its staff of specially trained domestics, and not one but two French chefs. The Overlook with its lobby as wide and grand as three Pullman cars, the grand staircase rising to the second floor, and its ponderous neo-Victorian furniture, all capped by the huge crystal chandalier which hung over the stairwell like a monster diamond.

Bob T. had fallen in love with the hotel as an idea, and his love had deepened as the hotel took shape, no longer a mental thing but an actual edifice with strong, clean lines and infinite possibility. His wife had grown to hate it – at one point in 1908 she told him that she would have preferred competing with another woman, that at least she would have known how to cope with – but he had dismissed her hate as a hysterical female reaction to Boyd’s death on the grounds.

"You’re not natural on the subject," Sarah had told him. "When you look at that there, it’s like there was no sense left in you. No one can talk to you about what it’s costing, or how people are going to get here when the last sixty miles of road aren’t even paved --."

"They’ll be paved," he said quietly. "I’ll pave them."

"And how much will that cost?" Sarah asked hysterically. "Another million?"

"Nowhere near," Bob T. said. "But if it did, I’d pay it."

"You see? Can’t you see? You’re just not natural on the subject. It’s taken your wits, Bob T.!"

Perhaps it had at that.

The Overlook’s premier season had been a nightmare. Spring came late, and the roads were not passable until the first of June, and even then they were a nightmare of washboards and axle-smashing chuckholes and hastily-laid corduroy over stretches of jellied mud. There was more rain that year than Bob T. had ever seen before or since, climaxed by a day of snow flurries in August … black snow, the old woman called it, a terrible omen for the winter ahead. In September he had hired a contractor to pave the last twenty miles of the road that led west from Estes Park to Sidewinder, and the forty miles from Sidewinder to the hotel itself, and it had turned into an expensive, round-the-clock operation to finish the two roads before the snow covered them for the long, long winter. The winter his wife had died.

But the roads and the abbreviated season had not been the worst of the Overlook’s first year. No. The hotel had been officially opened on June 1, 1910 at a ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by Bob T.’s pet congressman. That day had been hot and clear and bright, the kind of day the Denver Post must have had in mind when they took "’Tis a privilege to live in Colorado" as their motto. And when the pet congressman cut the ribbon, the wife of one of the first guests fainted dead away. The applause that had begun at the cutting of the ribbon dried up in little exclamations of alarm and concern. Smelling salts had brought her around, of course, but she had come back to the world with such an expression of dazed terror on her vapid little face that Bob T. could cheerfully have strangled her.

"I thought I saw something in the lobby," she said. "It didn’t look like a man."

Later she admitted that it must have been the unexpected heat after all the chilly weather, but of course by then the damage had been done.

Nor was the tale of that day’s reverses all told.

One of the two chefs had scalded his arm while preparing lunch and had to be taken to the hospital closest by, far away in Boulder. Mrs. Arkinbauer, the wife of the meat-packing king, had slipped while toweling herself dry after her bath and had broken her wrist. And finally, the crowning touch, at dinner that night, Bob T.’s pet congressman swallowed a piece of heavy Western sirloin strip steak the wrong way and choked to death in the full and horrified view of two hundred guests, nearly all of them there at Bob T. Watson’s personal invitation.

The pet congressman had clawed and clutched at his throat, he had turned first red and then purple, he had actually begun to stagger among the assembled company in his death-throes, bouncing from table to table, his wildly swinging arms knocking over wine-glasses and vases full of freshly cut flowers, his eyes bulging hideously at the assembled revellers. It was as if, one of Bob T.’s friends told him much later in private, Poe’s story about the Red Death had come to life in front of all of them. And perhaps Bob T.’s chance to make his beloved hotel a success had died on that very first night, had died a jittering, twitching, miserable death right alongside the pet congressman and in full view of those assembled.

Guillermo del Toro Discusses His Gothic Horror Film CRIMSON PEAK

guillermo-del-toro-discusses-his-gothic-horror-film-crimson-peak1

I'm really excited to see Guillermo del Toro's first American rated 'R' horror film Crimson Peak. From what I've heard it's going to be great! io9 recently released an interview they conducted with the director in which he discusses the haunted house,  Downton Abbey "class porn," and gothic kink.

Talking about the haunted house set they filmed in he said:

"The house decays. We needed to have the house feel a little bit like an orgasm. There's a line I already cut in the editing room where it says it lays down like an animal and it goes slowly mad. The house in the screenplay and in the movie has certain features that make it seem like a living organism. So, it's decaying. It's sitting in the middle of a field, rotting.

"We knew that the top needed to be sort of the most weathered part of the house. The bottom and the areas where you received visitors are live and slightly more kept. But the top is the head. The people in the movie are insane. So the head is all rotted away."

How freakin' cool is that? I love the though and care that this guy puts into his movies. Del Toro went on to say that he will be using mostly practical effects in the film. He even had an old-school working elevator running along its "metaphorical spine."

"I refuse to do green screen on the elevator. I wanted the actors to really go from the top to the bottom … Literally, we weighed the cameraman, the steadicam, the heaviest lens, the focus puller, the actress and the dog, and that's the permit. Because, you know, to ride with four or five people, you really need to be able to – we didn't want to risk it, so one of the rules is nobody rides the elevator for fun, which made this a f*cking Victorian Stair Master for me [laughs]."

That sounds like it would be such a fun set to work on. The director is asked at one point if the "rotting house had anything to do with the way that people of that period, that whole aristocracy fell apart?" He explained that this movie would not have Downton Abbey "class porn."

"Yes. This is not Downton Abbey. This is … I don't like what I call "class porn," where everybody's all gooey over, 'If only the aristocracy was still in charge, life would be so civilized.' Fuck that. It's not true. It was never true. And this is the opposite. This is a movie about a very American trait on Edith [the character], and a very incredibly decadent trait of the aristocracy, [is now] rotting away in a mansion on a hill. It's Miss Havisham. It's anti-class porn in a way."

I love Del Toro's attitude. Because of the kinkiness and violence of the film he thinks the movie will get an 'R' rating, which is what he's going for. He says:

"It's the first adult movie I do in English. You know, because even with the R rating, I can hardly call Blade an adult film. It's the first time I've tried to marry the Pan's Labyrinth and Devil's Backbone sensibilities with a larger cast and larger budget."

When asked if this was the most sexual movie for him he replied:

"Well, it's fun. It's kind of like a little sheepish, but, you know?... I go, 'Excuse me? Would you please?' [Laughs] I'm not like a fish in the water, you know? I'm more like, 'Yeah man! Get it on!' I don't know how to not sound like a dirty old man.

"But it's fun. I mean, because I think this is the only movie where that aspect is explored in any form is Devil's Backbone when the hump happens between the caretaker and the lady, the head mistress. I really think this is a little different. It's not by any means a Nymphomaniac with ghosts. There's very tame content for anyone's standards, but for me, it's a big deal."

Make sure to go to io9 to read the rest of their set visit experience. Reading all this stuff got me even more excited for this movie, and I can't wait to see some footage. The feature stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, and Charlie Hunnam.

5 Geeky Things We Want This Week, Comic-Con Survival Edition

Comic-Con is nearly upon us, and we’re making our final preparations. If you’re making the trip for the first time this year, the essentials are comfortable shoes, a good bag, water, and snacks (you don’t want to be stuck eating Hall H nachos). Also deodorant. Deodorant is mandatory, you guys.

Time Lord Hoodie
I’m not sure if the new Hall H wristbands are going to increase or decrease the number of attendees camping out, but it gets chilly down by the water at night. Even if you’re sleeping comfortably on the floor of your over occupancy hotel room, the convention center is over air conditioned in the morning, although it will warm up as the days goes on. That’s why you want a zip up hoodie that’ll keep you warm but come off easily. We like this not too on the nose Doctor Who hoodie. [Entertainment Earth]

Loki’s Army Flask
If you were in Hall H last year, you were recruited for Loki’s Army. Show your devotion by carrying this flask around. (Note: GeekTyrant does not endorse the illicit consumption of adult beverages.) [Etsy]

Tablanket
If you are camping out, try this blanket with a built in table. You’re not going to actually sleep all night, so why not bring a portable surface for some tabletop gaming? [Think Geek]

Voldemort the Dark Lord Coloring Book
You are going to spend a lot of time waiting. Even once you get into the venue of your choice, there are long gaps between panels. Keep yourself entertained with this Voldemort coloring book. See if you can achieve the perfect slightly luminescent blue-white of the Dark Lord’s skin. [Etsy]

Blood Bag Energy Drink
Comic-Con is non-stop, so at some point your energy is going to lag when you still have lots of things you want to do. When you get the 4 o’clock laggies, boost up with this blood bag energy drink. Just watch out for anyone cosplaying as a vampire slayer. We don’t want any more stabbings. [Firebox]

Details on The Twins and Vision in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

joss-whedon-on-the-twins-and-vision-in-age-of-ultron

Thanks to EW we have even more information on Avengers: Age of Ultron. They talked to Joss Whedon, Robert Downey Jr.Aaron Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen about certain aspects of the film, such as The Twins and Vision. Whedon started off by saying that the two siblings aren't introduced as good guys.

"They’re on Team Ultron, which makes things really hard for the Avengers because all of sudden they’re dealing with powers that they’re not used to.

"With the [first] Avengers, everybody pretty much had the power of being able to punch somebody. And now we have a woman who can get inside your head and move objects, and a boy that can move faster than anything, and a robot [Ultron] who can self-replicate and is out of his mind. So all of sudden, it’s a darker, weirder, tougher world that they’re living in."

Johnson talked about his character Quicksilver, who is basically an outcast from Eastern Europe along with his sister Scarlet Witch. They could basically care less if the world burns.

“They’re gypsies in a way. They’re romani. They’re sort of like travelers… There’s a lot of clashing. He’s quick tempered. He gets agitated. He’s impatient. But he’s super protective… They’re very yin-and-yang in that twin sense. In his power, he’s physical and she’s psychological. My character is very much on the frontline, but he can be quite emotional. You see this beautiful tenderness between them.”

Johnson went on to compare their versions of the characters to the comics saying:

“When you look in the comic books, you see a lot of the time that [Wanda is] always sort of mothering him. He’s like the father figure and she’s like the mother figure. Emotionally, she can stabilize him, and he protects her physically, vice-versa. So they have this beautiful connection and it’s kind of them against the world.”

Olsen then chimed in about her character and the powers she has:

“The reason she’s so special is because she has such a vast amount of knowledge that she’s unable to learn how to control it. No one taught her how to control it properly. So it gets the best of her. It’s not that she’s mentally insane, it’s just that she’s just overly stimulated. And she can connect to this world and parallel worlds at the same time, and parallel times…. In the comics, every time you see an image of them, they’re always holding each other’s hand and looking over each other’s shoulder. They’re always so close, it’s almost uncomfortable. Aaron and I have been playing a little bit with those kinds of images just for ourselves.”

I'm so glad these two characters play a big part of this story. It sounds like they really nailed down who they are. Then we have The Vision, who is played by Paul Bettany, and Whedon tread lightly when talking about him saying, “It’s not coincidence,” in regards to Bettany playing both J.A.R.V.I.S. and Vision, “And I’m not going to tell you any more about The Vision.” Downey Jr. on the other hand was more open about it:

“Things only happen arbitrarily in Kevin Feige’s Marvel universe by mistake, and I think he’s maybe made two mistakes and they weren’t really in the movies. They were more in like the easter eggs early on. Things that he didn’t have as much final say over but would nowadays.”

The actor was then asked to clarify that it isn't just by some accident that the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. is now playing The Vision, to which he replied:

“Yeah, I don’t think Kevin would let that happen. Again, it’s like if you think about the five different ways that [The Vision] could come together, this one’s definitely the most interesting of the five. I was running other scenarios and I’ve seen it progress over drafts. It was just kind of really good, right from the start.”

There's a lot of great stuff here open for speculation! I love how open everyone at Marvel is about talking about these movies. It's going to be so cool to see how this story plays out.

David Fincher's ZODIAC - Documentary and BTS Featurettes

In my opinion, Zodiac is David Fincher's best movie. It's one of my favorite films of all time, but, unfortunately, it didn't do very well at the box office. In fact, it's the director's lowest grossing film. If you haven't watched this movie yet, please do yourself a favor and check it out. The 2007 film starred Robert Downey Jr.Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mark Rufallo

The Film Stage recently found a full length documentary and a couple featurettes based around the movie. These are available on the 2-disc Blu-ray set, but not everyone owns that, so I thought I'd post them here for anyone that's interested.

The documentary is called This is the Zodiac Speaking, which gives up some in-depth background of the true story that the movie is based on. It features interviews with both the surviving victims and the investigators involved in the unsolved case. The two featurettes focus on the the VFX that were used to help bring the movie to life.

Yes, Paramount Pictures is really making The Ring 3, and they've hired F. Javier Gutiérrez to direct it. This is the same director who is also going to direct The Crow reboot.

I was just talking about The Ring the other day with some friends about how freakin' scary that movie was when it first came out. I still remember how terrified I was when that creepy little girl crawled out of the TV. It was a really well made horror movie, and the first two films were directed by Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski. Those movies were based on the original Japanese Ringu films.

Naomi Watts played a woman who finds herself in the fight for her and her son's life after they watch a cursed video tape. I didn't think they would ever make a third one, but it's coming. There's no word on if Watts will come back to reprise her role, but it would be kind of cool if she did.

I've enjoyed the the franchise so far, so I'm actually a little excited that a third one is being made.

Marvel's New SUPERIOR IRON MAN Character Design

SUPERIOR_IRON_MAN.jpg

Marvel has officially announced Superior Iron Man and they've released a new piece of art featuring the new character design. Marvel is really shaking things up in their comic book universe. There are a lot of mixed feelings out there about what Marvel is doing, so it will be interesting to see if fans fully embrace once the changes when these updated versions of these comic characters are released. My question is… how will this effect the movies in the future?

Here's some more information on Superior Iron Man from the press release:

Marvel is proud to announce the release of Superior Iron Man #1 by series writer Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us) and series artist Yildiray Çinar (Supergirl). Beginning in November 2014, Tony Stark will give into his ego and return to his billionaire playboy roots of self-obsession and superficiality.

Senior Editor Mark “Panic” Paniccia says, “What’s fun about Superior Iron Man is we get to see Tony Stark in a different mode. He’s very much like he was before Iron Man’s origin, before Tony became a Super Hero…a narcissistic, selfish profiteer. And Tom Taylor is having a blast with this personality, giving us an Iron Man that is bound to ruffle some fans’ feathers but will secretly—I think—find to be a guilty pleasure.”

“He’s self-obsessed. Cunning. Superficial. Superior,” explains writer Tom Taylor. “He has given Extremis to the people. Extremis can now be downloaded as a mobile app through any smart device in San Francisco and this creates Tony’s idea of a Utopia, which he is very happy to be at the heart of. But not everyone is buying Tony’s Paradise.

Superior Iron Man will also feature recent “City by the Bay” transplant – Daredevil!

“Daredevil may be blind but he can see the cracks in Stark’s Brave New World,” says Taylor. “In a way this is all an allegory for the technology that now rules our lives. The corruption that comes from this technology and the dependence we each have on it.”

UNCHARTED Movie Will Start Shooting in 2015

Uncharted.jpg

A big screen adaptation of the hit video game Uncharted has been in development for years, but it looks like it's almost ready to go into production. Director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) revealed in an interview with Zap2it that the film will start shooting in 2015.

The project has been in development since early 2008, and directors David O. Russell and Neil Burger have both been attached to it at one time, but it looks like Gordon is the lucky charm that will bring it home. According to Gordon, the team "just got the script to a really good place."

He was asked when he expects the feature to start shooting, and he replied with the following:

"I think very early next year. That's the plan. That's like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for the movie."

Gordon doesn't give much in terms of story, but he does say that the setting of the movie will be "very international" and "all over the world." Just like the video game! I imagine the story will be very similar as well. He did add:

"It's going to honor the mythology of the game, but I would say honor some of the most interesting stuff from the first one and build from there. There's some stuff that isn't in the game.
"I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that -- but don't want to tell the exact same story, of course -- so something that doesn't break the rules of what it did but expands. Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don't want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades."

When asked about an actor who could take on the lead role of Nathan Drake, he says:

"I want it to be a great actor. That's number one, and then if it's someone who has an actual jaw, that's even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There's no way we'd do the inverse of that where it's somebody famous who can't [act]."

Mark Wahlberg was previously attached to the film, but thankfully that's no longer the case. It sounds like Gordon had a handle on things and knows what he's doing with this property. Hopefully he will pull it off and give fans a great movie they will enjoy.

Insane Animated Sneak Peek of Bill Plympton's Film CHEATIN'

This is a 2-minute sneak peek at a crazy animated feature film called Cheatin', which comes from animator Bill Plympton. He will be at San Diego Comic-Con to show off his film with some never-before-seen clips. THR premiered the first clip from the film, and it features a terrifyingly muscular character named Jake, who is arming himself with a ridiculous amount of weapons.

Plympton raised $100,000 for the project through Kickstarter, and he created each of the 40,000 illustrations that compose the film by himself.

The story is as "an animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge, and murder—full of nudity and violence, but also with my surreal sense of humor." According to the report Jake "falls in love with Ella before a scheming 'other' woman drives a wedge between them."

Scarlett Johansson on AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

It's been a huge week for Marvel in both the comic books and in movie news! Thanks to an interview between Scarlett Johansson and IGN, we have more information on Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. She starts off by talking about her character Black Widow, who has a new look, new toys, and a new mission. This is what she says:

"Oh, man... I think her greatest attribute is that she's -- I don't want to say she has a criminal mind, but she does in a way. She's a super spy. Her ability to understand the complexity of the criminal mind, she uses that to her advantage. She's often the one that's going, 'Right, you think it's this way, but if you think about it from this person's perspective, this might be the answer.' She's always using her experience in her sordid past to her advantage. I don't think there's any super suit that could supersede that for her. I think what she lends to the team -- she let's everyone else play with their big toys. And she gets some pretty good toys too, especially in Avengers 2 -- I can't complain. [Laughs]"

Johansson also discusses how the the story of the Avengers will continue after the events in Captain America: The Winter Solider. She also talks about Whedon, and how he's part Hulk and part Widow.

"Of course in Avengers 2, it's very much a continuation, a maturation, of this universe, of this reality. It's not a sequel in the sense that it feels like a rehash. 'Hey, remember this old thing you loved in the first one? There's even more in the second!' It's nothing like that. Joss has lived with these characters now for a couple of years, and he is, as you can imagine, obsessed and tirelessly worked to help these characters evolve. Of course, I'm very fortunate that Joss has an affection for female characters in the work that he writes, and an understanding of them. To me, the Widow is a part of Joss. It really is. I think about Joss, I think about him being part Hulk and part Widow. [Laughs] I don't know if he would agree with that, but I've really thought a lot about, 'What is Joss?' He's all of his characters, of course, like every great writer."

The actress then discusses the complexity of her character and how she's evolved into who we will see in Age of Ultron.

"At this stage, when you see the Widow, she's -- especially in Avengers, these characters all have a past, and hers is a very complex one, where she's realizing -- and it's kind of a continuation of Cap 2 -- 'I've never made an active choice. I'm a product of other people's imposition.' That's going to catch up with her. That's bound to have a huge effect. There's got to be a result of that realization. I think that in Avengers 2 you'll see that. You'll see her actively making some choices in her life, for better or worse. You know, when she splashes, the wave is big -- all these characters have that effect. So it'll be interesting to see what the audience thinks of what kind of wave we're sending their way. [Laughs]"

Black Widow has surprisingly become one of my favorite characters in the Marvel cinematic universe, and I'm really happy that she's had such a prominent role in it.

I know most of us have no idea who Christina Chong is, but she just landed a role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Epiosde VII, so one day you will know. She was last seen on 24: Live Another Day, and landed the lead female role in Sergio Mimica-Gezzan's digital feature project Halo: Nightfall. There's no information at this time on who she will play, but this is obviously a huge deal for her, so congrats!
