Bradley Cooper on Rocket Raccoon's Voice in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

We've heard a lot of people from the cast of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy talk about Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon, but he hasn't really talked about it himself yet. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor opened up a little bit about the gun-toting rodent he will be voicing, and the type of voice they are trying to develop for the character.

"Well, I like James a lot and it really was about him and then talking to him about the guy. I wasn't familiar with the comic at all and then I really loved it, and I love that character. He's incredible that character. You know, one thing we debated was he's seen as a cockney accent sometimes. So we talked about whether we'd do that or do this sort of other guy from the city a little bit."

When Cooper was asked if they figured a voice for the character, Cooper said,

"Yeah, we're in the middle of it."

So it sounds like they are almost there. I can't wait to see what they came up with! Cooper went on to talk about the footage he's seen of the film so far saying,

"Chris Pratt is unbelievable and Zoe is great, she's always great. Chris Pratt just blew me away. I thought he's just like the perfect guy."

Guardians of the Galaxy features a great team of misfit characters who come together to save the galaxy. The movie also stars Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Honsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close, and John C. Reilly. It comes out in theaters on August 1st, 2014!

Queen's classic song "Bohemian Rhapsody" now has a remastered Star Wars edition! The video was created by the students and faculty of the Digital Video Program at University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona. They also enlisted a group of Star Wars cosplayers in Arizona to join in on the fun. The lyrics to the song have been completely rewritten to fit the Star Wars universe, and it actually turned out to be really fun. Thanks to io9!

WICKED Imagined as a Disney Animated Film - Character Art

Here's a great little collection of Wicked character art created by Disney animator Minkyu Lee, which shows us what the characters would look like in a Disney animated film. Lee worked on films such as The Princess and the Frog and Frozen. These were created by the artist while studying at CalArts and interning at Disney. Lee is a very talented artist and animator who also directed the Oscar nominated short Adam and Dog, which you can watch here. You can read about the artist's thoughts on the importance of creating a visual development portfolio like this and how it came about on his website. I think Wicked would make for a fantastic animated film at Disney, but I believe Universal Pictures hold the rights, and they will be developing a live-action version of it.

Legendary Pictures has released two short viral videos for the Gareth Edwards directed film Godzilla. They are for "M.U.T.O Research," and they feature a lot of static and a very short glimpse of some scenes we might see in the movie. The studio also announced that the first trailer for the film will be released this coming Tuesday, December 10th, so stay tuned for that awesomeness! The viral site is called mutoresearch.net.

The movie comes out on May 16th, 2014. Here's all the information we have on the movie so far.

Legendary Pictures: Godzilla -- An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham

Thanks to filmmaker Wren Weichman, Harry Potter fans get to return to that universe one more time in a new fan series called The OMEn Chronicles. It takes place fifteen years after the events of the final book, it doesn't include any familiar characters, and there are no English accents. Here's a short description,

In a world filled with magic, one mysterious person tries to keep a forgotten power safe from both the Officers of OMEn and the Evil forces wanting to corrupt it.

This is a fun film, and I think some of you might enjoy it. The short ends on little cliffhanger so it looks like we will see another one.

Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and More Info

When X-Men director Bryan Singer tweeted the news that X-Men: Apocalypse would be coming out in 2016, I think most of us just assumed that he would be directing the film, but there was always the chance he might end up just producing it since it wasn't really specified.

So in case there was any doubt, Vulture reports that Singer is most definitely directing the new X-Men movie. The site also confirms that the movie will be a direct sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past, and that it will "focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast." So as previously rumored, don't expect any of the original cast members to return.

It's been reported Days of Future Past will tease Apocalypse in the post credits sequence of the the film. You can read more Spoiler filled info about that here if you want.

I'm happy to hear that Singer is jumping back on board the franchise again and is looking to give fans another badass X-Men movie!

Magnificent Technomancer Light-Up Wizard Hoodie

Think Geek has one of the greatest hoodies that any geek could ever own! It's the Technomancer Digital Wizard Hoodie! The hooded jacket lights up and makes spell type sounds that are triggered by the movements of the the person wearing it. The hoodie was originally an April Fools joke from Think Geek, but they ended up turning it into a reality, and it's incredibly cool!

The light and sound combinations include nine different spells including thunderbolt, fireball, restore health, and even raise the dead. The description comes from the following warning,

The Technomancer isn't for everyone. You'll need to spend some time mastering the various spell effects. Each spell requires different motions. The way you wear the garment and how precise your movements are will greatly affect your results. Don't expect to become a master wizard the second you open the box. Time and patience will be your guide to unlocking the power of the Technomancer. Impatient sorcerer's apprentices should not apply.

I'd actually buy one of these! It's only $119, but unfortunately, it's out of stock at the moment. Check out the video presentation!

Three new photos have surfaced for Tom Cruise's new sci-fi action thriller Edge of Tomorrow. Warner Bros. has yet to release a trailer for this movie, but having seen a trailer at Comic-Con, I can tell you that the movie looks pretty incredible.

The movie also stars Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh. It's set to hit theaters June 6th, 2014, and here's the synopsis!

The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski. And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

the-amazing-spider-man-2-to-get-imax-3d-release.jpg

Sony Pictures has officially announced that Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will get an IMAX 3D release! I think this was a given, as every big budget superhero movie these days gets released in IMAX. It's been made official though, and here's the press release:

IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 2™, the highly anticipated next chapter in the story of Peter Parker, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released in IMAX® theatres. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in theaters internationally beginning April 16, 2014 , and domestically on May 2, 2014 .

"After the enormous worldwide success of The Amazing Spider-Man, we're looking forward to partnering again with Marc Webb , Avi Arad , and Matt Tolmach , and our friends at Sony Pictures to offer IMAX fans around the world an opportunity to experience this highly anticipated film in the immersive IMAX 3D format," said Greg Foster , CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp.

The IMAX release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

I really don't care to watch my movies in 3D, but I sure do love to see them in IMAX, so most of the time I have to watch them in 3D anyway.

It's also being reported by NY Daily News that Spider-Man will be swinging into Times Square for the annual Times Square Ball Drop on New Year's Eve. The studio will also screen new footage from the film as well on the video screens in Times Square. Sounds like it's going to be a crazy cool party!

Here's a fun little fan made live-action Star Wars short for you to check out. It was created by Daniel Kemeys for a university project, and as you'll see it's pretty cool. The short was made on a zero budget, and he says it's his first project in his third and final year of school studying visual effects and motion graphics. I do have to say I would have loved to see that full fight sequence at the end. It looked like it could have been epic.

We have six new photos from Matt Smith's final Doctor Who episode as the 11th Doctor. This is from the Christmas special titled The Time of the Doctor. One of the photos even shows off a wooden Cyberman!

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - and amongst them, the Doctor.

Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

I'll be honest, Smith was one of my favorite Doctors, and it will be sad to see him leave. The special is set to air on December 25th, and it looks like it's going to be a great last episode for Smith! Thanks to BBC for the photos.

An Interview with Steve Downes - Bringing Master Chief to Life

I recently had the chance to sit down for a minute and speak with Steve Downes, better known in gaming circles as the voice of Master Chief. Steve has had a packed career, but he is most famous for his time voicing Spartan 117. In our brief sit-down we touched on how he's adjusted to life after Chief, the transition from Bungie to 343 studios, and a peek behind the curtain on voicing one of Halo 4's most memorable scenes.

Before we get started just wanted to say thank you to the wonderful guys and gals at GMX (Geek Media Expo) for affording me the opportunity to speak with Steve.

Matt Mueller: Hi Steve, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me today. As you know, gamers are a pretty dedicated group of fans. With all of your experience in radio and commercials, while much different from games, they both carry a level of exposure with them. That said, as icons in gaming go, Master Chief is one of the most iconic in our medium, especially for this generation of players. Has there been any adapting to that level of fandom, and if so, how has that process gone?

halo_4.jpg

Steve Downes: You know Matt, strangely I have adapted well, and I’m not sure what that says about me (laughs). In a lot of ways this whole experience, from recording that voice, this game taking off the way it did, and everything else that's happened, is in a lot of ways a childhood fantasy. What kid growing up at one point in their life didn't picture themselves being Superman or Batman, flying through the air, you know all of that stuff, Spider-Man, etc. That is why mythic characters like that are developed and transcend time, I mean they go on forever. Why? Because we all put ourselves in that suit, we all want to anyway. Master Chief was a fulfillment of a childhood fantasy, and then being able to, in a small way represent that character outside the game, you know, is, what’s not to love? It just a blast to do.

MM: Master Chief is the character that I believe Steven Seagal thinks he is in his own mind. Chief could learn a thing or two from his running motion.

SD: [Laughs]

MM: In all seriousness though, did you really think it was going to hit big? I mean, we are on volume 5 now with I’m sure a Halo 6 on the way. You didn't see it coming?

Halo-4-Launch-Steve-Downes-Jen-Taylor.jpg

SD: Oh, I didn't know. I didn't see it coming, and to be honest with you, I don’t think Bungie saw it coming either, or anyone involved with the project for that matter had any concept it was going to be what it was. I don’t think they went into making the game thinking we are going to make a video game to end all video games. I mean really, back in 2000 or 2001 the whole industry was relatively new and Halo Combat Evolved was a game changer in and of itself, but I don’t think they saw it that day. I think what they saw, or envisioned was an idea of making this game, it will be really cool and maybe we’ll sell a couple of copies. I don’t think they had any idea it was going to be this larger than life thing that it has become over the years, and I certainly didn't have that idea. Believe me, it was news to me.

MM: It must be cool to have Gamestops around the country (and all over the world for that matter) have a huge stand-up of a character you voice every time a new Halo launches. One of the perks you don’t see coming, I imagine. Speaking of Bungie, how has it been working with 343? I know  the baton was passed with Halo 4.

1666544-master_chief.jpg

SD: The baton was passed and it has been in one way seamless, and in another way initially challenging because, in many ways I had to sort of reintroduce myself to the people who were now carrying the torch forward if you will. That can be odd initially, but I approached it like I knew what they were going to require from me or whoever was going to do it, was going to be something very different than what it had been. I understood that going in and there was no chip on my shoulder or anything like that, so it was very much a, I don’t want to say I auditioned for the role, but I approached it that way. I remember when we did the very first sort of tests on it. I mean nobody would say it at the time, but I knew the developers had a “can he do this?” kind of moment, and as I've said before, it is the direction I had hoped would eventually happen, so when the time came to actually be able to do it, well, I'll never forget that session, and we didn't even use it ultimately. Fortunately, they were happy, and I was happy, so it went on from there. That whole transition, at least from my perspective, was seamless, and yet like I said there was also a challenge there, and anytime there is a challenge, and if you’re up for it, it becomes a very exciting kind of thing to do.

MM: Kudos are in order by the way, because I just re-watched the (spoilers abound from this point on, so beware!) moment towards the end where we see what ultimately happens to Cortana, and that was truly a heartbreaking scene. Very well done.

halo4.jpg

SD: It was, and it was also heartbreaking to do. When we did it, when we got to that point and it happened to be the last thing we did in production. Now, I did a lot of other pickups after that moment so it wasn't the very last session we did, but as far as Jen and I working together it was the last thing we did. I’ll never forget this, I told her going into that session that I may reach out for you physically while I’m doing this, so if I do, don’t freak out. The last thing I wanted her to do was go whoa! what are you doing! So I said if I reach for your hand it's because I need to go there emotionally, so she said that’s fine. So we start going over the scene and we get to that point, and I was, I was so into that moment, and she’s standing there literally holding her hand out in the studio waiting for me to take it, and I didn't. [Laughs] So when we got done with the scene she goes “dude, you left me hanging!” [Laughs]

halo4-cortana-640x360.jpg

I got so there in that place that I couldn't, and when I thought about it later I realized that is probably what Master Chief was going through also. He was having to deal with this, he was about to lose, and it was becoming obvious that first of all he was in a situation that he could not control, and Master Chief is not used to being in situations that he cannot control, and the most important entity in his life was dying in front of him and he couldn't stop it. He was uncomfortable, I mean what he was feeling inside were feelings he didn't know how to process, and they made him vulnerable, and the one thing he isn't used to being is vulnerable, so I think that whole awkwardness that I was feeling, that Steve Downes was feeling, at the time I’m reading the Chief's lines, was appropriate to what the character was going through.

MM: Exactly, and it definitely came through

SD: And it did come through. Sorry Jen [laughs], left you hanging.

MM: Well thank you for taking the time to sit down with me, I truly appreciate it.

SD: My pleasure, I enjoyed it.

Warner Bros. has released a tenth TV spot for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug featuring footage from the film along with some review quotes saying how awesome and epic the movie is. The reviews I've read so far have been all incredibly positive, and it's looking like this sequel is going to be a lot better than the first movie, which I think most of us assumed would be the case. The film opens up in theaters this week, and I can't wait to see it!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Movie Is Not Going to Happen

friday-night-lights-movie-is-not-going-to-happen.jpg

I'm kind of bummed to deliver this news, but it doesn't look like that Friday Night Lights movie that fans we were hoping for is going to happen. We've been hearing about it inching towards production since the series ended in 2011. Creator Peter Berg seemed very optimistic about it in previous interviews, but in a recent interview with Collider, he says that it's not going to happen,

“There’s not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.”

With shows like Veronica Mars and Entourage making the move to the big screen, I thought for sure there was a chance. But not anymore. Life will go on, but it will go on without a Friday Night Lights movie. I would have loved to see a movie, but I'm also completely satisfied with how the series ended, so I can't complain. You can if you want though!

Sesame Street Parodies THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Sesame Street is back with another great movie parody! This time they take on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings. The parody is called Lord of the Crumbs and it features a story that involves Cookie Monster.

Legend speaks of a dessert unimaginably sweet and delicious, and when it was destroyed all that remained was the dessert's powerful recipe. It remained in the hands of a monster named Gobble for a long time, but when it disappeared, all cookies on Monster Earth disappeared along with it. It is up to Cookie Monster to use his memory and remember the recipe in order to bake the cookies in the fires of Mount Crumb.

I've been enjoying these TV and movie parodies, and I'm sure they will continue make them.
