MAN OF STEEL - Alternate Costume Designs for Superman and Zod

I imagine there were a ton of different costume designs created for Man of Steel during the development phase. I really liked what they ended up using, but here's a series of concept art created by Ed Natividad that shows us what could have been. They include different Superman and Zod costume designs, and one features our hero sporting his classic red underwear. Click on the images to enlarge. Do you like any of these more than the ones used in the film?

Thanks to io9 for the heads up on these!

New Trailer for Japanese Remake of UNFORGIVEN

As most of you probably know, the U.S. loves to make westerns based on samurai movies. Well, now the Japanese have made samurai movie based on a western, and it looks incredible!

Here's another trailer for the Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven (Yurusarezaru Mono). The movie was directed by Lee Sang-il (Hula Girls) and stars Ken Watanabe (Inception) as a swordsman who takes a job as a bounty killer. This is the role that Eastwood played in the original film, only he was a retired outlaw gunman.

The story takes place in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido in the 1880s, during a time when Japanese settlers were displacing the native Ainu people. Watanabe plays a samurai with a fearsome reputation as a swordsman who is living in retirement with his Ainu wife when poverty and a large bounty tempt him into action again.

The movie is set to be released in Japan on September 13th, 2013. I'm sure one day it will make its way to the States. The movie also stars Kunimura JunYagira YuyaSato KoichiEmoto AkiraKoike Eiko, and Kutsuna Shioli.

I can't wait to see this movie!

New PREDATOR Sequel to be Announced at Comic-Con?

A new mysterious teaser image has popped up on the Predators Movie Facebook page with a caption that reads, "Something is coming...#‎HuntthePredator‬".

The map shown on the poster is of downtown San Diego--you can see the convention center on Harbor Blvd, the Galslamp District, and Petco Park right across the street.

20th Century Fox said there will be a big surprise at their Comic-Con panel, which will include The Wolverine and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Maybe a sequel to Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal's 2010 Predators will be one of the announcements. We're expecting an X-Force movie announcement as well.

Of course, this could also be teasing another kind of Predator project, such as a new video game or comic book. We'll find out what this all means next week!

Marvel Wants Joseph Gordon-Levitt for DOCTOR STRANGE!

As you know Marvel is prepping their future film projects, and one of those is Doctor Strange. The studio hasn't officially announced the film yet, but we all know it's one of the big ones coming.

It's been reported that the Strange character will be groomed to take the place of Tony Stark as the main hub character that will help connect Marvel's cinematic universe together. To do that, the studio would need to get a big star that everyone would like to see over and over again in the Marvel universe. It looks like Marvel knows who they want.

According to our friends at Latino-Review, the studio wants Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role, and I couldn't be happier! As a long time fan of Strange, I think Gordon-Levitt is a great choice to take him on. The site explains,

"Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, BUT we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal."

Well, I think Marvel should make the move and get talking to him if they haven't already! It'd be great if this actually happened!

What do you think about the possibility of Gordon-Levitt playing Doctor Strange?!

INJUSTICE:GODS AMONG US- Martian Manhunter Puts Dhalsim to Shame

Yeah I know, two completely different games. That said, if the two were ever pitted against each other, who do you think would be left standing? Manhunter's got heat vision, super strength, and the ability to phase through and shape shift into anything, all of which are on display in his spotlight trailer, which you can find below. With a decent mix of misdirect moves and keep away specials, he seems like a nice all around combatant. You can also see Green Lantern's new alternate skin, which happens to be fan favorite GL John Stewart. I like the costume overall, and if this is a thing now, I would love to see a Hope Corp Kyle Rayner or a Rage Corp Guy Gardner. In fact, if they wanted to go the extra mile they could release a Ch'p costume, which would allow sad people like me recreate his infamous (and hilarious) death in issue 2 of GL Mosaic. Don't worry, I'm actually ashamed of myself on that one, so no need to point it out.

Now that I'm thinking about it though, Dhalsim likes to occasionally spit fire (albeit incredibly slow-moving molasses fire) at people, which just happens to be old green skin's one weakness, so maybe this isn't such a slam dunk.

Back to relevant things, no release date for the DLC has been announced, but rest assured, we'll let you know when it does. If you're looking for my picks for future characters or costumes, you can catch my previous wishlists here and here.

We know Legendary Pictures is planning something big for Godzilla at Comic-Con. In anticipation of the event, the director of the film, Gareth Edwards, has released another video from the set of the film giving us a little hint of what is coming.

The studio currently has a viral marketing campaign going that is tracking the movement of the monster to San Diego. Below you'll find one of the latest updates on that. How freakin' cool would it be if Godzilla actually showed up? I know it seems impossible, but what if they came up with a way to do something like that? The director does say that Legendary has “something very exciting planned” for this year’s event. “Something very big is heading to San Diego.” I guess we'll find out soon enough!

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, and Sally Hawkins. The movie hits theaters on May 16th, 2014.

The Comic-Con panel takes place on Saturday July 20th, in Hall H from 10:45AM – 1:15PM. See you there!

Despicable Me 2 is currently out in theaters and kicking ass at the box office. I didn't think I would enjoy the movie, but it was actually really good. Everyone seems to love the Minions in this franchise, which is why they are getting their own movie.

Thanks to Kevin Magic Lam we have a fun set of character designs featuring the Minions as some of our favorite Marvel and DC comics superheroes!

HBO has released a new trailer for Boardwalk Empire season 4 called "Kings," and it gives us a little taste of what we can expect to see from Steve Buscemi‘s Nucky Thompson this season. It also introduces a couple of new characters, such as Dr. Valentin Narcisse played by Jeffrey Wright and Roy Phillips played by Ron Livingston.

The series returns to HBO on September 8th, and I can't wait!

Angry Birds developer Rovio Entertainment has officially announced Angry Birds Star Wars II! This time around the story will follow the three prequel Star Wars movies, "including the introduction of never-before-seen Angry Birds Star Wars characters," and for the first time ever, "players can choose to 'Join the Pork Side' and play as one of the villainous pigs."

The first Angry Birds Star Wars game was fun, and even though the prequel films sucked, I'm sure the Angry Birds version of it will be better. Below you will find the trailer for the game and full press release:

Rovio Entertainment Ltd and Lucasfilm Ltd announced today a continued collaboration on the Angry Birds Star Wars franchise with Angry Birds Star Wars II, launching September 19th in app stores worldwide.
Angry Birds Star Wars II will follow the story of the three prequel Star Wars movies, including the introduction of never-before-seen Angry Birds Star Wars characters. For the first time in history, players can choose to “Join the Pork Side” and play as one of the villainous pigs.
“Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release. We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world,” said Jami Laes, Executive Vice President of Games at Rovio Entertainment. “Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbro’s TELEPODS technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay.”
The TELEPODS line from Hasbro brings an additional interactive layer of gameplay and content to Angry Birds Star Wars II. In addition to the vast amount of content readily available in the game, new characters and super powers can be unlocked for players by placing one of the collectible TELEPODS physical characters from the Hasbro line on the phone or tablet camera and scanning it into the game. For the first time ever, players can choose which character they want to use in the app by “teleporting” their physical character into the game. Over thirty figures will be available at launch in September.
“Hasbro worked closely with both Rovio and Lucasfilm to deliver a fully integrated TELEPODS experience with the new ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS II app. Now fans can enjoy unprecedented and seamless dual play in both physical and digital ANGRY BIRDS experiences,” said John Frascotti, Chief Marketing Officer, Hasbro, Inc.
Simultaneously with the launch of Angry Bird Star Wars II on September 19th, a new line of merchandise will be introduced to coincide with the game including a complete line of toys, apparel, accessories, books and plush from best in class licensing partners.  Hasbro TELEPODS will arrive in retail by September for the game launch and be presented to the public for the first time at San Diego Comic-con in July.

Mention the word Sagat around me and its likely to trigger twitches due to hearing the word Tiger followed by either Knee, Shot, or Uppercut ad nauseam in every match I've gone against him in.

Luckily, Miss Sinister is doing her best to make take some of the bitterness away with her wonderful cosplay of the Muay Thai street fighter (now known as that other guy with the eye patch thanks to NIck Fury). A great cosplay is only as good as its photos, and Laphotonet delivered on that front as well. Make sure to head over to her store to see some of her other game related cosplays (including Taki of Soul Calibur fame).

HBO Renews TRUE BLOOD For 7th Season

HBO has officially announced that they have renewed True Blood for a seventh season. The seventh season is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2014, and executive producer Brian Buckner is returning as showrunner. The news comes from Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, who says,

"'True Blood' remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers. Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV."

I've been enjoying the sixth season. It's crazy how much this show has changed and evolved since it first started. It's almost a completely different show. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how the current season turns out before I get too excited about season 7. I'm happy it's not ending yet, though!

How do you feel about where season 6 is heading and the fact HBO has greenlit a seventh season?

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the show takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist, after vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source. The series follows waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people's thoughts, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård). Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy-winning HBO series "Six Feet Under") created the show, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.
The sixth season of "True Blood," which launched June 26, is already exceeding ten million viewers per episode.

Next HULK Film to Be Based on INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK?

$
0
0

It's safe to assume that one day Marvel will make another stand-alone Hulk film, and I'm sure they've had several discussions on how they'll tackle it when they do. One thing is for sure, Mark Ruffalo will be back to reprise his role as Bruce Banner, and Marvel wants to utilize him, which is why we won't be seeing Planet Hulk or World War Hulk. Maybe they'll do it one day, but not while they have Ruffalo in a multi-film deal.

Now according to one of The Daily SuperHero's screenwriting sources (Via: CBM), who is apparently closely plugged into Marvel movie development process, the next Hulk sequel might be based on some of the Bruce Banner-specific ideas found in Marvel NOW's Indestructible Hulk  comic.

With the way the Marvel cinematic Universe is using S.H.I.E.L.D., it makes sense that they would go this route. In the new comic Hulk is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and Banner feels the need to give back to the world, so S.H.I.E.L.D. sets him up in a lab where he can develop ways to help the world. In exchange, S.H.I.E.L.D. gets to use Hulk whenever they need him. This will allow them to put a lot more focus on the Banner character.

I can easily see Marvel taking the Hulk in this direction, and when they decide to pull a trigger on another movie, this is what I'm expecting to see happen.

Here's a description of the comic:

Hulk: Indestructible force more weapon than man. Banner: Smartest man alive. Combined, they are the strongest, smartest weapon on the planet! And NOW!, the Indestructible Hulk is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Hulk's first official missions include taking down the all-new Quintronic Man and battling Attuma on the ocean floor! But not everything is as it seems: What is Banner's secret hold over S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Maria Hill? What and where is Bannertown, USA? And which one of Banner's lab assistants holds a deadly secret? Plus: Bruce Banner and Tony Stark are friends but Hulk and Iron Man are anything but! The Golden Avenger guest-stars as Eisner Award-winning writer Mark Waid (DAREDEVIL) and superstar artist Leinil Yu take the Hulk in an all-new direction...NOW!

Would you like to see this version of Hulk introduced into Marvel's cinematic universe?
