First Official Photo from DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Director Matt Reeves tweeted out a new photo from the set of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is currently in production. Some unofficial set photos leaked last month that you can check out here. The new photo features Andy Serkis in his mo-cap suit as Caesar riding a horse. He looks like he comes across some humans, which include Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Keri Russell.

The movie also stars Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), Enrique Murciano (Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line), and Judy Greer (The Descendants).

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

The movie will be released on May 23rd, 2014.

Puppet Movie Proposal Will Leave You Emotional

I've seen all sorts of proposals, but this one punched me right in the heart. Just thinking about all the work that went into orchestrating this whole trailer, and the puppetry, it's crazy! It's all worth it though as you can see the fiancée's face the entire time throughout! Here are some details on what all went into the making of the film from the Youtube page.

I put together a movie trailer of our relationship acted out by puppets. I rented the chapel room at our church and had a friend inform her of a "movie night" at church. My parents had flown in from Maine (for what she thought was just a weekend visit) and we planned to take them to this "movie night". A couple hours before the film, I told her that I had to get some work done but I would meet them at the church once I finish. Her family and best friend whom she hadn't seen in a few months came in from Oklahoma to share the moment and add to the surprise (these are the ones who you see her hug immediately after the proposal), so we strategically sat them and scattered a few dozen friends throughout the chapel. We positioned cameras to capture her reactions and set up 3 other random movie trailers to play prior to the proposal trailer. I hid in the media tech booth as she walked in with my parents during the first trailer. She sat in the perfect spot...and the rest is history!

Here's a cool detailed infographic from Empire Magazine called How Marvel Assembled Its Cinematic Universe. It breaks down the first two phases that the studio has developed and shows which characters connect with each movie, and also speculates on what we might see happen in Phase 3.

What other movies do you think we'll see in Phase 3?

Robert Downey Jr. Re-teams with Jon Favreau for CHEF

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Iron Man director Jon Favreau was looking to make a new indie film called Chef. Variety is now reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is going to team back with Favreau to co-star in the film. We've seen what these two guys can do together, and it will be cool to see them work together again!

Favreau is directing the film from a script that he wrote. Favreau will play a chef who starts up "a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise and [to reclaim] his estranged family." There's no info on whom Downey Jr. is playing in the movie, but it's an ensemble cast. I'm sure he'll have a good part to play in it. Favreau had this to say in a statement,

Setting a film in the culinary world of Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities for a character driven comedy.

I'm really happy to see Favreau making another small, character driven indie film. I recently rewatched the movie Made, that he also wrote and directed back in 2001, and that movie is still awesome. If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely take the time to check it out.

Kevin Feige on Extremis and S.H.I.E.L.D. in IRON MAN 3

While Iron Man 3 is kicking ass in theaters, Marvel President Kevin Feige did a little question and answer session on Twitter as @Iron_Man. A lot of questions were asked, and among them were a few interesting little gems that I thought I'd share with you in case you missed it.

During the Q&A, we learned that we haven't seen the last of Extremis in the Marvel movie universe. Feige also said the reason S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't help Tony Stark in Iron Man 3 was because they were busy, and what they were busy with will be revealed in future Marvel films. He also said he'd like to see Happy in the armor!

Below are the interesting bits, but to read them all click here.

I assumed we haven't seen the last of Extremis, the technology exists now, and it will be interesting to see how they use it in future films. As for S.H.I.E.L.D. being busy, we know that they play a huge role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so I assume that these two events will be happening at the same time. The same thing could also be said of Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy. Who knows, maybe it ties in with the Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. TV series as well. We'll eventually find out the details on that, so it's just one more Marvel puzzle piece we have to look forward to. Then there's seeing Happy in the suit... that would just be plain awesome!

William Fichtner to Play Iconic Role in NINJA TURTLES

Character actor Willaim Fichtner is the latest person to join the cast of the Michael Bay-produced reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The report doesn't reveal whom he'll be playing in the film, but it does say that he'll be "playing a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology." This leads me to believe that he'll be playing the main villain Shredder. I'm not really sure who else it could be. I'll be surprised if he isn't Shredder. There's always Casey Jones, but he doesn't seem like the Casey Jones type.

You should recognize Fichtner from shows such as Prison Break, Entourage, The Dark Knight, Invasion, and a ton of other projects. He'll next be seen playing Butch Cavendish in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, and he also has a role in the Neil Blomkamp-directed Elysium

Fichtner joins the previously cast Alan Ritchson (Raphael), Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello), and Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, and Megan Fox as April O'Neil. The movie comes out in theaters on June 6th, 2014.

Do you think Fichtner will end up playing Shredder? If not, who else could you see him playing?

IRON MAN 3 Special Effects Video Reels

Method Studios and Digital Domain have both released some videos showing off the visual effects they did for Shane Black's Iron Man 3. The clips they released feature scenes with the Iron Patriot armor, Air Force One, and Eric Savin taking down a water tower.

I'm actually pretty surprised by how many people didn't like Iron Man 3. I thought it was great, and I'm noticing that people either loved it or hated it. There's not much middle ground. Regardless of what you thought of the story, the special effects ended up being really good as always. I enjoy watching videos like this that show the process of how they were completed. They always end up being surprising. For example, I had no idea that James Badge Dale wasn't actually wearing the Iron Patriot suit in the scene they show in the video below.

New Release Dates for 300 Sequel and ALL YOU NEED IS KILL

Warner Bros. has moved a couple of movies around in their release schedule. They moved 300: Rise of an Empire from this August to March 7th, 2014. Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution explained the move saying,

Moving 300: Rise of an Empire to March 7 continues in the tradition of the first 300, and kicks off the Spring movie-going season in epic style. The film is on track to become all that audiences have come to expect from the franchise.

One of the things not mentioned in the news was that the film was one of the movies affected by the recent financial problems of the visual effects house Rhythm & Hues. I'm sure that had something to do with it as well. There will need to be more time to get the effects heavy film ready for release.

The studio also ended up shifting the release of Tom Cruise's sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill from May 30th, 2014 to June 6th, 2014. In regards to this Fellman said,

We have tremendous confidence in All You Need is Kill and view it as a perfect tent pole for the Summer frame, with its combination of great cast, compelling story and tremendous action.

Both movies will be distributed in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX. Here's more information on each of the films:

300: Rise of an Empire:

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.” The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (Gangster Squad) as Themistokles and Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale) as Artemisia.Lena Headey reprises her starring role from 300 as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (Clash of the Titans) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay byZack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller.

All You Need is Kill:

The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

Teaser Poster for the Hilarious Horror Comedy HELL BABY

I saw Hell Baby up at Sundance earlier this year, and it's definitely the funniest movie I've seen this year. The horror comedy comes from Reno 911! creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. They wrote and directed the film which also stars Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb, Keegan Michael Key, Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.

This movie had me busting up laughing from beginning to end, and I can't wait for you to get to watch it for yourself! It's just packed full of unexpected and entertaining awesomeness. You can read my review for it here and watch our video review here if you haven't already.

Hopefully we get a trailer for it soon!

Expectant couple Jack and Vanessa move into the most haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans—a house with a deadly demonic curse. When things soon spiral out of control, it’ll take the help of Vanessa’s Wiccan sister, a nosey “neighbor” who lives in their crawl space, two local detectives, and a pair of elite Vatican exorcists to save them—or is italready too late?

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE - Promo Trailer and New Image

I really enjoyed watching The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I like the story, animation and character designs for that show. As you know, Marvel and Disney cancelled that series and replaced it with another one called Avengers Assemble. This is our first look at footage from the series, and I've got to say I'm not impressed. I know the show is for kids; I'm just not a big fan of these character designs, the style, or animation. It looks cheap, but maybe that's what they're going for.

An animated series parallel to the record-breaking blockbuster movie Marvel's The Avengers, "Avengers Assemble" sees Iron Man leading the team of mightiest heroes – Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and newcomer Falcon – who combine their powers to battle threats no single hero could overcome. When the Avengers assemble, evil doesn't stand a chance. The voice cast includes: Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes") as Iron Man, Fred Tatasciore ("Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness") reprising his role as Hulk, Roger Craig Smith (Wreck-It Ralph) as Captain America, Travis Willingham ("Shelf Life") as Thor, Troy Baker ("Ultimate Spider-Man") as Hawkeye, Laura Bailey ("The Super Hero Squad Show") as Black Widow and Bumper Robinson ("The Game") as Falcon. Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle of Man of Action Studios ("Ben 10," "Generator Rex") will serve as executive producers.

In the first part of the special preview, Captain America is apparently destroyed by Red Skull, so Iron Man re-unites the team to try and avenge his friend and stop Red Skull’s army. In the second part, Red Skull steals Tony Stark’s armor, and the Avengers must galvanize the team to stop him and M.O.D.O.K. from destroying New York City.

A one-hour preview of the new animated series will premiere on Disney XD, Sunday, May 26th at 11 a.m. ET. The show will officially premiere on Sunday, July 7th at 11 a.m. ET as part of the “Marvel Universe” block.

What do you think of the design and style of the new series?

INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US: Batgirl Brings It in New Trailer

$

You'd think all the hullabaloo (yep) would be about how damn cool Batgirl (Babs for short) appears to play. Instead, what we've gotten is a ton of negativity and frankly whining about the DLC character selection and how Batman has taken over the game.

Lets address those.

Batman Sells

Batman is the best selling DC character at the company right now (and has been for awhile). Period. In addition, if you look at the list of fan favorites, who's towards the top of every list? Batman, Joker, Catwoman, Harley, Batgirl, Nightwing, etc. Still trying to figure out Bane though, so that I'll give you. It makes sense that there would be more characters affiliated with the Batverse in the roster just based on popularity alone.

Blank Character Sucks, Blank Character Rules

There is no winning with roster selections, as there will always be the person like me who loved that Rocket Racoon was in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Meanwhile, someone else is having a coronary and saying how the developers were off their rockers for including him at the expense of someone else (cardiac for example). You can't please everyone, and while a character might not be for you that doesn't mean they shouldn't be included.

Now, I did see one point made of which I agree with, and that is the focus of the trailer itself. It should have started and ended with how cool Batgirl is to play, not acting as a trailer for the Joker character skin that doesn't even come in the same pack. It's also a bit deflating to see the first 2 minutes of her big reveal dedicated to how Joker almost broke her, and while it was probably meant as something to build momentum towards his eventual beatdown at her hands, I don't think it was necessary. No one else got those types of trailers, so why saddle her with one? Not the end of the world, but something that I saw and did happen to agree with.

Here's the thing. She looks incredibly fun, and her moves are quick and deceptive. Her smoke screens and grapples, once mastered, could throw anybody off their game. To say her super is mesmerizing is not doing it justice. All in all, the character is vastly different from Bruce and is not "just another Batman character". Giving her that label is....well, an injustice.

Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments!

PACIFIC RIM - Kaiju Crush Banner and 2 New Character Posters

A new banner has been released for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim representing New Zealand's Jaeger called the "Kaiju Crush." There are also two new character posters featuring Idris Elba's PPDC Marshal Stacker Pentecost and Rinko Kikuchi as Jaeger pilot Mako Mori.

It was pointed out to us, that the poster above is part of a marketing campaign for a site that allows you to build your own Jaeger. Check it out here!

The insanely awesome looking movie also stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff. It's set to open in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on July 12th!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Cast Photo and Sneak Peek Tomorrow

ABC has officially picked up Joss Whedon's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a full season, and it is expected to premiere this fall! There's no word on how many episodes we'll get, but the network is planning on making a "major marketing push" for the show. In fact, this Sunday they will air a special sneak peek at the show that will air before the season finale of Once Upon a Time. We'll make sure to get that on the site for you as soon as it's available. A first look photo of the cast and the logo have also been officially revealed, which you can see above and below.

I'm excited about this series, and I'm sure it's going to turn out great! Here are the details on the series:

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series.  “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Joe Quesada on BIG HERO 6 and Other Marvel Animated Films

Earlier this week, Disney revealed that their first Marvel animated feature film Big Hero 6 would be released on November 7th. The movie is currently in production and being directed by Don Hall. They also gave us our first look at the setting of the film "San Fransokyo" -- a hybrid of Tokyo and San Francisco. I think it looks cool and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

In a recent interview, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada explains how Big Hero 6 came together and hints at the fact that this is one of many Marvel animated movies that are being discussed at Disney. Here's what he had to say to Comic Book Resources,

The idea actually came from Don Hall, the director, who is a huge Marvel fan and obviously a big nerd if he remembers Big Hero 6. Don came to us with suggestions for maybe six of our lesser known properties, and we started working with him on some ideas for how these could be approached as Disney animated movies. Don took three of those possibilities to John Lasseter, and John really gravitated to the story that we spitballed on "Big Hero 6." That's how it came to be, and it's been really fun.

So there's a couple of other possibilities out there, and I'm sure more have been added on to that. I think Big Hero 6 could be a very successful film. If it is, you can bet we're going to see even more Marvel animated movies get made. Quesada goes on to talk about the film and why it will be something special,

Well, I think the x-factor was that when we started reimagining Big Hero 6 with Don and his crew, there was a story there of two brothers. I think it was a boy and his robot kind of thing that makes it very Disney in the traditional sense. But the beauty of this is that Don is a real Marvel fan, and he's embraced the visual history of Marvel. I think we've gone and lectured to the animators over there about what Marvel is and how we look at visual dynamics in our comics -- everything from Jack Kirby to John Romita Sr. to John Romita Jr. So there's a lot of Marvel influence in this, which is really cool. It's going to be an amazing blend of what Disney does in animation and what Marvel does in the action adventure genre.

The 1998 comic series was created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau, and it's about a group of government-sanctioned heroes, such as "a robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his robot companion BayMax, who join a team of superheroes.”

I'm looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out!

Chris Evans Discusses CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

During a recent interview with Collider, Chris Evans talked more about Captain America: The Winter Solider. He talks about preparing to reprise his role, the possibility of showing up in Thor: The Dark World, working with Hayley Atwell in the first movie, and gives his thoughts on Marvel President Kevin Feige.

On prepping to play Captain America:

Gearing up for Captain 2 you think, 'Alright, there was obviously a difference in the workload from Captain America to The Avengers.' And you have to get back in the mindset. You have to remember 'Alright, this is on you, man. You have to take this seriously.' The fact that The Avengers did so well….you have an obligation. There is a serious obligation to fans who are expecting a great movie. A lot of that starts with making sure that you are physically ready to play the role and look the role. So a lot of that is in my head. Come January that is my life.

On the possibility of showing up in Thor: The Dark World:

I would love to do a little thing in Thor 2. It is obviously going to be tricky trying to work out the plot, the reason why I am not there to help him, and why he is not there to help me. But the best thing about Marvel is that, like I said, the movies were so good and we had such a good time making them. Marvel is such a great company to work for. It feels like everyone just wants to pitch in. It feels like everyone…why would I not want to help? I’m not going to hold them over the coals and be like, 'Well, it’s my contract and guess what? I’m screwing you!' Let’s just make this great. If I can help that – great – and make it better? Let’s do it!

On his familiarity of the story the sequel is based on:

I am fully up to date with my comics. I know all about it. Kevin Feige was talking about that when we were filming the first Captain America and well before The Avengers. During the first Captain America we were talking about potential futures and, you know, I don’t want to give too much way.

On trying to keep details under wraps:

Sometimes I will let it slip to like my brother-in-law, who is a huge comic book geek. I will be like, 'Oh, yeah, that is what we are doing,' and he is like, 'What?!' I’m like, 'Don’t tell! I never said that! Shut up.' He is all fired up. But that is the best thing about Marvel. That is why Kevin Feige is a [frick]ing genius. He knows what the audience wants because he is the audience. He is that comic book fan. So he is not like some money man twisting his moustache while being like, 'I think they will like…' He knows and he is a comic book fan. So anything that he gets excited about, the fans get excited about.

On the tone and setting of the sequel:

That is his story. It is him trying to on a personal level adjust to the fact that everyone he knows is gone and the whole Peggy Carter of it all. There is a lot of things that he kind of has to come to terms with. So I don’t know. I am excited to kind of see flashes of the first Captain, if you know what I mean, and to see his memory of what we now know as an audience of who he was.

On working with Hayley Atwell in the first movie:

There was a scene in Captain America where she comes into the bar in the red dress. We did this scene and we must have done this scene….the coverage on Hayley. She came in the red dress and she tells me a little about dancing or whatever. We must have done that – I’m not joking – about 15 times. The only reason is because [director] Joe [Johnston] would come in and give Hayley a new direction every time and every time she crushed it. The things she was doing…every take I was like, 'How is this girl doing something new, different, and great in every single time?' I think Joe was just having fun watching an amazing actress be great. She is phenomenal.

Head over to Collider to read the full interview where he discusses several of the other projects he's been working on.

Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman is really good at playing the part of a common man's man. Sometimes I can't tell where Ron Swanson ends and the real man begins! Check out this bit he did on Conan where he read the tweets of female celebrities whilst working in his wood shop, which is a real hobby of his.

Check out this insane illustration of Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie as crazy looking dirty criminals. The piece is called "My Brother's Keeper". It was created by concept artist Dan LuVisi, and this is the backstory that he gave to these characters,

Well here’s the story. I imagined Bert as a Marine who left his little brother behind for the Vietnam war. Over the years, Ernie started to turn into a junkie without his brother’s guidance, falling into the wrong crowd and dealing/using with the wrong people–thus making some very bad mistakes.

Until Bert returned, leaving one war, only to fight another for his brother.

Oh man, Ernie. What a psycho.

I love it!

Here's another awesome illustration that is going to be included in Bottleneck Gallery's "I Love You Man, Art Show." The Star Wars inspired illustration is called "The Scoundrel & The Wookie", and it was created by Mr. Florey over at It Draws Things. I love these two characters. I hope one of the Star Wars spinoff films that Lucasfilm makes includes one of their earlier adventures together.
