Horror Movie Icons Re-Imagined as Rusty Old Robots

This is a really fun and inventive series of character illustrations that give us a look at what some of our favorite horror movie icons would look like as old rusty robots. Not sure what inspired the artist to do this, but they turned out great! The art comes from Poopbird, and they include Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Pinhead, and Jigsaw.

Nicolas Winding Refn Discussing ONLY GOD FORGIVES - Video

A couple of days ago the first red-band trailer was released for Ryan Gosling's insane looking new film Only God Forgives. It was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), and the story is set in the Thailand underground boxing world and basically follows a badass who is out to avenge his brother’s death. If you haven't watched the trailer yet, do yourself a favor and click here.

We've now got an interesting behind the scenes video for the film that features the director talking about the movie and shedding some more light on the story. He also discusses how hard it was to make the movie in Thailand, and it gives us a revealing look at how the director works his magic when writing a script. Check it out!

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

Only God Forgives also stars Vithaya Pansringarm and Kristin Scott Thomas, and is set to premiere at The Cannes Film Festival before opening in the U.S. on May 23rd.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: The Flashpoint Paradox- First Look and Synopsis

$

Warner Bros. animation and DC Entertainment have revealed the first look at their new animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. They've released a synopsis as well. The latest film is based on the Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert miniseries, and it will be released on July 30th, 2013. I'm sure they'll show the film off earlier in the month at San Diego Comic-Con. Here's the synopsis...

When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg, Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman's Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it's a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe.

As for the cast, Kevin Conroy plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, Ron Perlman reprises his Teen Titans role as Deathstroke, Dana Delany returns as Lois Lane, and Vanessa Marshall is Wonder Woman. The rest of the cast has yet to be revealed, but the characters include Flash, Cyborg, Reverse Flash, Aquaman, and Thomas Wayne/Batman.

We recently had the opportunity to watch Superman: Unbound at WonderCon, and the story and script were pretty solid. The animation was a little on the cheap side though. Hopefully this next time around they put a little more care into their animation production.

AMERICAN PSYCHO with Huey Lewis and Weird Al - Comedy Short

Here's a brilliant parody of a classic scene from American Psycho that was done by the team at Funny or Die. The original scene featured Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman preparing to kill his colleague while discussing the cultural and musical value of Huey Lewis and the News.

The parody features Huey Lewis as Bale's character and “Weird” Al Yankovic as his doomed colleague. Only this time Lewis breaks down the cultural value of the film that is being parodied, and it's brilliantly executed! If you're a fan of American Psycho, you're going to love this! Enjoy!

While we continue to patiently wait to see more footage from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, here's a couple of photo scans featuring some collectible statues of some of the characters. They give is a good look at what some of the full costumes in the film will actually end up looking like. Those Kryptonian outfits just look crazy! Hopefully the next trailer that's released will show them in action!

In the film, a young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

New Images From Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM

It's really rare to see something new from director Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi film Elysium, but today we've got a couple new photos to share with you! The shots feature Matt Damon whose bionic parts are being tinkered with and Alice Braga in what seems to be a pretty serious situation.

I hopefully we'll see a trailer for this soon! I saw some footage of at Comic-Con last year, and it was pretty mind-blowing stuff. The effects weren't finished at the time, but it still looked freakin' great!

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The movie also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Diego Luna, and William FichtnerElysium is set to hit theatres on August 9th, 2013.

PROMETHEUS Co-Writer Takes on Disney's BLACK HOLE Reboot

It was recently announced by THR that Disney’s long awaited reboot of their 1979 sci-fi film The Black Hole has landed a writer.

This project was started in 2009 with writer Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim), but apparently he has moved on to bigger projects. (Sorry about the pun, but I just couldn’t help myself) Now Disney has given the task to Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts. They already snagged director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) to helm this thing, and now that they have a writer, things seem to be moving forward.

I really liked the original film. I don’t think that I have actually seen the theatrical version of the movie. I watched it a couple of times on the Magical World of Disney when I was young. That being said; I think they have paired the right writer and director to do the original film justice. I am not saying that it is going to be an academy award winner, but it should be fun.

The original "followed a group of space explorers aboard the USS Palomino who come across a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, hovering outside a black hole. Inside the Cygnus, the explorers meet a scientist commanding an army of faceless robots, who explain that his crew deserted him as he planned to go through the black hole. The explorers soon discover that the robots are the remnants of the former crew and that the scientist has no intention of letting them leave."

Until next time…

LEGO MARVEL SUPERHEROES: New Screens Spotlight Fun in the Sand

The first shots of Abomination are also shown, but it's like one picture, so Sandman gets the headline.

The shots show off the typical LEGO gameplay which heavily emphasizes switching characters on the fly to accomplish specific tasks catered to that hero. Hulk and Spidey are heavily featured, but you can also catch glimpses of Cap and Shellhead too.

I love that the more recent games are fully voice acted, as LEGO Batman benefited greatly from it. If the Marvel synergy is as good as I think it is, expect to see some Guardians of the Galaxy cameos (or better yet, a level that lets you play as a LEGO-fied Groot)…..GROOT!

Enjoy the pics, and let us know if there is a character you are clamoring to see in Traveller's Tales latest.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - First Look at Beast!

Director Bryan Singer has tweeted out his most interesting photo yet from the set of his new film X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it features Nicholas Hoult as Beast! The image came with the following note...

Many a monster wears the form of a man; it is better of the two to have the heart of a man & the form of a monster.

For those of you not familiar with the quote, it comes from Jeanne Marie Le Prince de Beaumont's original story "Beauty and the Beast".

Singer has managed to get the whole X-Men gang back together again! The film will include Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, and Boo Boo Stewart.

Based on the comic book storyline "Days of Future Past," which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne's run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be released in theaters on July 18th, 2014.

Marvel Planning Game of Thrones Inspired INHUMANS Film?

$
0
0

It's no secret that Marvel will most likely end up doing a big screen adaptation of The Inhumans in the future. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige himself even confirmed that it was a possibility. That was around the same time that Guardians of the Galaxy was a possibility as well, and look what happened with that.

Now we kind of have an idea of where Marvel might be taking the story for the film. According to Bleeding CoolMatt Fraction is writing a new Marvel comic starring the Inhumans characters, and it's said to be heavily influenced by HBO's Game of Thrones. Here's how they describe it,

Spinning out of his current Fantastic Four run, The Inhumans will divide into separate houses, the House Of Medusa, The House Of Maximus, etc, just like the Starks and the Lannisters and the like. Lots of Houses, all over the place in different climates, with a mess of politics, ambition and power between them – super powers.

Feige also stated at one point that if this movie did happen we should expect to see an X-Men style ensemble. This would basically be Marvel's version of X-Men that they have control over--all the real X-men characters are currently owned by FOX. This could very well be the version of The Inhumans that we end up seeing on the big screen when it eventually happens. This would be a different take than the previous movie logline that the studio released back in 2011,

The Inhumans are aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell agents to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.

Things have obviously changed since then, and that's fine! This new Game of Thrones style storyline could be pretty freakin' epic! Even though this is just a rumor right now, I'm still excited to see how this plays out. What do you think of the concept?

Jessica Chastain Joins Guillermo del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK

$

Guillermo del Toro landed himself another great actor for his new horror movie Crimson Peak! Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain will join Emma StoneCharlie Hunnam, and the recently cast Benedict Cumberbatch in the haunted house thriller. Chastain previously worked on the Del Toro-produced horror film Mama, which unfortunately kind of sucked. She's a solid actress, but I have to say that Mama wasn't her best work. I'm sure she'll end up being fine in this movie though.

There's still no word on who any of these actors will be playing, but the gothic horror story centers on "a woman who discovers that her husband might not be whom he appears to be."

The director previously described the movie as being a "very set-oriented, classical, but at the same time modern take on the ghost story." He also explained,

It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. It’s very much... the first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with Lucinda Clarkson who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?

The film starts production in February of 2014.

Ron Moore on Why STAR TREK is Better Suited for TV

$
0
0

Even though I've enjoyed what J.J. Abrams has been doing with the Star Trek movies, I do kind of miss Star Trek as a TV series. There's so much more story they can tell in a series.

Battlestar Galactica reboot creator Ronald D. Moore has worked as a writer and producer on several Star Trek series over the years such as Star Trek: The Next GenerationDeep Space Nine, and Voyager. He also worked on the movies Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: First Contact.

In a recent interview with Star Trek.com Moore was asked if he missed the Star Trek TV shows and he went on to talk about why the sci-fi franchise is better suited for TV than for the big screen.

I do. I think that Star Trek, in its DNA, is a television show. The features are great. They’re a lot of fun and they’ve certainly opened it up to a lot of different audiences, but the features all are basically atypical episodes, if you think about it. The features are very big action-adventure movies, lots of spectacle, run and jump, shoot-em-up and blowing things up. The fate of the Earth, or the universe itself, is always at stake. It’s always about the captain, and one other character has a strong B-story, and everyone else sort of has very small roles beyond that. But Star Trek, as originally conceived, and as you saw play out in all the other series, was really a morality play every week, and it was about an ensemble of players. They were exploring science fiction ideas, sociological ideas and moral ideas. That’s really what the shows are about, and the movies are just pitched in a different way and at a different audience.

The movies will do a story where the captain is split in two by a transporter accident and one half is evil and one half is good, and the whole story is about where does the nature of a man’s strength come from? What makes a man a man? Is it his good side? His bad side? Or how the two come together to make something greater than the sum of its parts? The movies will never do that. They’ll never do a day-in-the-life story with Data [the excellent season 4 episode "Data's Day"] or something like “Lower Decks,” where you go explore the other characters. They’ll never do all the things that all of us who are fans fell in love with this franchise for. So I think, at some point, Star Trek will return to television, and that would be great. I’d love to watch the weekly adventures again just because it gives you an opportunity to explore lots of other things besides the action-adventure component.

He makes some strong points, and I think he's right. As fun as the films have been, Trek is meant for TV. Hopefully one day we get to see the franchise get another series. Several people have been trying to make it happen over the years, maybe one day it'll finally happen.

Do you agree with Moore's thoughts on Star Trek being a better TV series?

Christopher Eccleston Officially Out of DOCTOR WHO 50th Anniversary

$

0

He's said it before, and today he's saying it yet again. Christopher Eccleston will not appear in person for any part of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. This news comes on the tails of the announcement that former 10th doctor David Tennant will be making his return alongside his much loved companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). A BBC spokesperson released the following statement to The Independent on the matter.

Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven's plans for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode. After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best.

It's been reported on fan sites like Bad Wilf  that Eccleston vowed never to return after his falling out with the management, so what more can we expect? As much as I love his portrayal of The Doctor, I'm kind of glad this isn't happening. No spoiler or anything but the return of Tennant is at least consistent with the current storyline, where I think it would be a bit of a stretch to work the 9th Doctor in somehow. Then again the show's writing always seems to surprise me. Is anyone going to miss Eccleston on the 50th anniversary?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2- Leaked Details on Foxx’s Electro Suit

I didn’t think I would be, but I am a huge fan of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. I am looking forward to what he is going to do with the sequel. With that being said, I am a self-proclaimed spoiler junkie. I just can’t help myself. It is like when you see someone getting pulled over on the side of the road, you have to almost physically restrain yourself from looking. Whenever I see the word spoiler my Pavlovian reaction is to see what is going on.

This here really isn’t A SPOILER, it is more of a 'eh, spoiler.' Nothing major is revealed here, but if you have any adverse reactions to spoilers, then save yourself the possibility of an allergic reaction and stop reading. For the rest of you here are a few tweets from what we can only assume to be an extra on the set of TASM 2. Her name is Jamie Jones and thanks to CBM we know what she has seen so far:

So excited to share my good news! I've been cast in the Spider-Man sequel filming in NYC! 10 glorious days w/ Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield!!

— Jamie Jones (@JamieJonesNYC) April 1, 2013

Jamie Foxx is here!! Surprised the mess out of me! This night is about to get even better!

— Jamie Jones (@JamieJonesNYC) April 2, 2013

“@marvel_spider: @jamiejonesnyc Was he in costume as Electro?”<<--Not full on yet. The phase where he's becoming him. Jamie Foxx is bad ass!

— Jamie Jones (@JamieJonesNYC) April 3, 2013

By the way, @iamjamiefoxx is KILLING his role as Electro. And he likes to do Michael Jackson dance moves in between takes. LOL

— Jamie Jones (@JamieJonesNYC) April 3, 2013

@marvel_spider His face & hands are silvery-grey. Eyes silvery blue. He's not in the green & yellow suit yet, but feeling his powers now.

— Jamie Jones (@JamieJonesNYC) April 4, 2013

See, nothing too bad, just a little insight to what Electro will look like. I am enthused with the choice of Foxx for this role. I can’t wait to see what he is going to bring to the table. It sounds like there have been a few changes made to the original Electro costume, but we won’t know the full extent of the changes until we see some production stills. Do you think that Foxx is the right fit for this role? How do you think this sequel will compare to the first film?

Until next time…
