Guillermo del Toro on a PACIFIC RIM and GODZILLA Crossover Film

Legendary Pictures is developing two epic giant monster movie projects. They've got Pacific Rim, which comes out this summer, and Godzilla which is currently shooting. I guess if the production company really wanted to, they could combine the two properties into one crazy movie.

In a recent interview with Collider Guillermo del Toro was asked about the possibility of a Pacific Rim Vs. Godzilla crossover film. Although there may not be any plans to do it at the moment, the director says that he'd love to see it happen! Here's what he told them...

So far with the [Pacific Rim] sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the [frick] out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain. But I don’t think there are plans on that. I don’t even know what direction they’re taking Godzilla in. I know somewhat that it’s grounded differently. Pacific Rim, my aspiration was, the color, the saturation of color, was almost an acid-drip version of the heavy-metal coloring that I loved when Richard Corben was working there, when [Jean-Claude] Forest was working there. Super bright, super saturated, the crazy color and aesthetic. And Godzilla is more realistic, somewhat. That’s my thinking. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t even know which way they’re going.

I seriously doubt this movie would ever happen, but if it did I'm sure it'd be entertaining as hell. Would you like to see a Jaeger battle Godzilla? I'm sure we're going to get so much giant robot and monster ass kicking in Pacific Rim that it won't matter.

THE GREAT GATSBY - Fantastic New Trailer and Poster

Warner Bros. has released another exciting trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby. The trailer contains a ton of new footage from the film that gives us a little more insight into the story. This is seriously such a beautifully shot film; I think it could end up being Luhrmann's best film to date.

The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth DebickiJason Clarke, Amitabh Bachchan, and Jack Thompson.

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

It's set to be released on May 10th, 2013, and I'm excited about seeing it.

Sony Pictures has released an awesome green-band theatrical trailer for the hilarious looking apocalyptic comedy This is The End. The movie stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, and revolves around a celebrity filled house party that is interrupted by the end of the world. It also stars Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Jay BaruchelJason Segel, Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Martin Star, Emma Watson, and Aziz Ansari, who all play over exaggerated versions of themselves in the film.

This trailer premiered at WonderCon last weekend, and the audience loved what they saw. It also includes a lot of new footage that shows us some more funny comedy. I have a feeling this movie is going to do very well.

The comedy This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

The great looking comedy hits theaters on June 14th, 2013! Enjoy the new trailer!

Justin Lin Will Not Direct FAST AND FURIOUS 7

Fast and Furious director Justin Lin has been directing the films in this franchise since Tokyo Drift. Since he's taken the reins the movies have been getting really entertaining and the audience has been growing. Fast Five was great, and Fast and Furious 6 looks like it's going to kick all kinds of ass. The franchise is blowing up, but Lin has let Universal Pictures know that he will not be returning to direct the seventh installment of the franchise.

The reason he will not be directing it is that the studio is looking to push it into production fast, and Lin doesn't feel he has enough time to prep for it. He'd have to start working on it while he was finishing up Fast 6 in post-production, and according to THR he felt the rush would not result in his best work. "One insider says that franchise exhaustion also was a factor."

He's been making these Fast and Furious films for years, so I don't blame him for wanting to take a break from making them. The question is, who will the studio hire to take his place? Is there anyone else you'd like to see direct Fast 7? I'm wondering if Vin Diesel will step into those shoes, I think if anyone could take it on he'd be a good choice. Directing it would also be a great stepping stone for him because it could be his first major feature film.

CALVIN & HOBBES - Dark and Gritty Fan Made Trailer

Whenever Hollywood decides to reboot something these days the first thing they want to do is give a grounded dark and gritty tone. Calvin & Hobbes creator Bill Watterson has never sold the rights to his beloved comic strip, and I imagine that's because he feared Hollywood would just screw it up. I don't blame him.

A team of writers and web filmmakers known as Gritty Reboots have created an awesome fake trailer that envisions Calvin & Hobbes as a dark and gritty film adaptation. The story centers on Calvin who's now a grownup being tormented by his imagination. His childhood imaginary friend, Hobbes, whom Calvin shared many of his adventures and time with goes rogue, trying to take over Calvin's brain, and he must fight back to survive.

While growing up, Calvin's imagination always kept him sane. He didn't have many friends, so he created one. As he got older, he tried to leave childish things behind. But his imagination had a different plan.

Benedict Cumberbatch Cast in Guillermo Del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK!

For all you Benedict Cumberbatch fans out there, you'll be extremely happy to know that Guillermo del Toro has cast him in his next horror movie Crimson Peak! How awesome is that?! The actor joins Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam in the haunted house thriller.

There's not much known about the story yet, but the director has talked about the tone of the film in great detail explaining that it's “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story," and that it will allow him "to play with the conventions of the genre [he knows and loves], and at the same time subvert the old rules." He goes into a little bit more detail in this statement,

It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. It’s very much... the first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with Lucinda Clarkson who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?

There's no word on who any of the actors will be playing, but it's a hell of a great cast! I have no doubt that Cumberbatch will be taking on one of the creepier parts in the film. The guy can be pretty freakin' scary if he wants to. Knowing Del Toro, he's going to give us a classic horror film that we won't forget. At least that's what I'm hoping for!

THE INTERROGATION - Russian Mob Short Thriller

Here's a short film thriller that was sent to us called The Interrogation, that was a student project. The story centers on a guy who is looking for his sister. He's being held captive and tortured for information by an old school, hard-assed Russian mob boss. As he's tortured and interrogated he slowly learns the situation isn't as clear cut as it seems.

The film was made by Conrad Paur and Mark Johnson, and for a student film I think I turned out really well. The cinematography and writing was pretty good, and the guy playing the lead role could be the next Keanu Reeves or Paul Walker. Check it out for yourself, and let us now what you think!

ANCHORMAN 2 - More Cameos Revealed

One of the most fun parts of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was seeing all of the surprising cameos. It makes sense that we would see even more of them in Adam McKay's Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

THR is reporting that Vince VaughnLuke Wilson, and Nicole Kidman are among those who will have small parts in the film. I imagine Vaughn and Wilson will be reprising their roles as rival anchors from the first film.

As far as the rest of the cast goes, here's a roundup... Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Steve Carell, and Christina Applegate are all back. Joining them are Kristen Wiig, Harrison Ford, Dylan Baker, and John C. Reilly with James Marsden as a rival newscaster.

The story follows the on-set adventures of San Diego’s top newsman, and it was previously revealed that it will partly be a musical. It's set to hit theaters December 20th, 2013.

JURASSIC PARK 4 Will Feature a New Terrifying Dinosaur

It was recently announced that Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow would be taking on the challenge of bringing the T. Rex and the Velociraptor back to the big screen in Jurassic Park 4! This is exciting! I enjoyed all of the Jurassic Park movies, and I can't wait to see what's being planned for this fourth installment.

The Jurassic Park movies made stars out of the T-Rex, the spitting Dilophosaurus, and the Velociraptor, which wasn't really a well known dino until after the movie came out. But from the sounds of it a new dinosaur star is going to be born in the fourth film, and apparently it's terrifying!

USA Today recently spoke with paleontologist Jack Horner, who served as the dinosaur adviser on the original films and is working on the new one, as well. In the interview, Horner reveals that there'll be a new dino, but wouldn't say what it would be. All he said was...

I can't actually tell you who that will be, but you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie.

Sounds like something we have to look forward to! Do you have any theories on what Dinosaur he could be talking about?

They are aiming to shoot this summer for a June 13th, 2014 release. I'm excited to see what they've got cooking!

Check out these two amazing pieces of fantasy art for the online game Legend of the Cryptids. The art was created by CGHUB artist Cryptcrawler, and both pieces feature the Dark Queen Guinevere. Here's what the artist said about each illustration,

The advanced/prestigious/experienced version of Dark Queen Guinevere for Applibot's Legend of the Cryptids game. I really had a ball doing the costuming for this one - particularly the helmet - as well as being able to employ a little more "sauce" in the ladies' outfits. I was going to go over the top with the queen's regalia but decided that a vampire queen would probably rely more on force of personality and less on flash and flesh to exact her will.

This is just another more adult version of the same character.

One of two pieces I had the privilege of illustrating for Applibot's Legend of the Cryptids online card game. Really great company to work for, they treated me like gold and gave me a lot of playroom to design with. Took some guilty pleasure in illustrating something a little more on the adult side as well since I never really get to do it anymore

Bruce Campbell on Horror Films and Great Filmmaking

$

Bruce Campbell is the freakin' man! I love listening to this guy talk; it's always entertaining. He was at WonderCon this last weekend promoting Evil Dead, and he was by far the best and most entertaining part of that convention. io9 caught up with the actor at the convention, and he talked about the secret of great filmmaking, horror films, and how horror comedies are making a comeback.

So whats the secret to a good horror movie?

I think horror movies are better if people give a shit, and make a decent movie. I feel like there's lazy film-makers in general out there. I [would like] a little more industrious film-making, please. I just think they need to work a little harder, pay attention, and don't treat audiences like they're stupid.

You can't really argue. I hate lazy filmmaking. I have been seeing less and less of it these days though. The biggest problem I see right now is the scripts for some of these films that have fantastic stories and concepts. There just needs to be a little more time put into polishing up these scripts. He goes on to discuss the phases of horror movies, and how horror comedies are making a comeback,

Horror films get serious, horror films get not serious, horror films get into torture porn, and they get out of it... there's just different phases that they go in and out of... I think that most people are afraid to do [horror comedy], because they're afraid to do it. [Horror and comedy] are both tricky genres.

Campbell also talks about the Evil Dead remake he produced saying that it's "awesome" to see someone else starring in an Evil Dead movie. "I encourage everyone being in Evil Dead movies except me. It's more fun to watch someone else get tormented."

Hell, I wouldn't mind being tormented on the set of an Evil Dead movie! For a fan like me, that would be a dream come true! You can watch the video interview on io9.

This latest poster for World War Z shows Brad Pitt surveying the epic destruction of the world while flying high above a city in a helicopter, which according to the previous poster isn't really the safest place to be.

Based on Max Brooks' best-selling novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, the movie revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Marc Forster directed the movie, and it also stars Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox. The movie is set to be released on June 21st, 2013.

The Full Trailer for CARRIE Promises Fire and Blood

"They're all going to laugh at you!"

I'm a fan of the original adaption of Stephen King's Carrie, and I was really hoping that this new remake would end up being a decent film. That being said, it looks like they might have pulled it off. The new adaptation was directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry, Stop-Loss), and it stars Chole Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde, and Ansel Elgort.

As you'll see in the trailer, the director is putting more of a focus on the telekinetic powers that Carrie has, which is a different approach. Then of course the trailer highlights all of the classic scenes that I remember from the book, and the original film. In the end, we're going to get to see that blood filled, fiery revenge at the end of the movie. It's gonna be great!

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie.  Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society.  Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

The horror film comes out on October 18th, 2013. Enjoy the latest trailer!
