LOOPER Director Rian Johnson Developing Cyberpunk Film

$

Director Rian Johnson recently revealed to /Film that the next film he's developing will be another sci-fi and that it will be Cyberpunk. There is no other information that was revealed other than that it will be very different from his last film, Looper.

I'm a huge fan of Johnson's work, which also includes Brick and The Brothers Bloom. The guy is a talented screenwriter and filmmaker that knows how to tell amazingly fun stories. It will be great to see him revisit the sci-fi genre and see what he has planned for the cyberpunk aspect of it. One thing I know for sure is that whatever he's planning, it's going to be freakin' cool!

AMC’s The Walking Dead came to a close for Season 3 this past Sunday. Many people didn’t seem to like the finale. It's understandable, how can you really live up to the epic finale that happened in Season 2? Nevertheless, we got the story that the writers and showrunners wanted to tell.

One thing that Season 3 did give us was some great meme-tastic (yeah, I just made that up) moments. Our good friends over at The Walking Dead Memes and The Laughing Dead on Facebook have been putting out some fantastic moments. We have included some of our favorites (with a few of them from Season 2) below for you to check out. Which one of these stands out as the best to you?

Now we forewarn you, if you haven’t watched the full season, some of these might contain spoilers. So with that said, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED :)

Trailer for Funny or Die's Steve Jobs Biopic iSTEVE

Last month it was announced that Funny or Die had made their own Steve Jobs biopic called iSteve, which stars Justin Long as Jobs. They've released the first teaser trailer for the movie, and I like how it turned out.

The project started out as a fake trailer and ended up becoming a full on parody film that was shot over five days. Clocking in around 75 minutes, it's the longest film that Funny or Die has produced. The movie was written and directed by Ryan Perez who previously explained,

In true Internet fashion, it’s not based on very thorough research — essentially a cursory look at the Steve Jobs Wikipedia page. It’s very silly. But it looks at his whole life.

The movie also stars James Urbaniak as Bill Gates, Michaela Watkins as Melinda Gates, and Jorge Garcia who plays Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple). It's set to be released online on April 15th, 2013. Now check out the trailer!

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Cool Fan Made Posters

Here's a little set of fan-made character poster art for X-Men: Days of Future Past featuring some of the original X-Men characters such as Cyclops and Wolverine in some redesigned costumes that are more in line with the X-Men: First Class designs. The art comes from Obi on CBM, and here's what he had to say...

I've always been a fan of the X-men, they are the reason why i fell in love with comic books and i remember looking forward to seeing the first X men movie, which i did enjoy but ultimately felt disappointing in not seeing the proper costumes on the characters. I know a lot of you guys think it would look stupid on screen but First class showed us that yellow and blue could actually work. Anyway here are a few pieces of art with my favorite X-men in their classic costumes.

Look over the designs, and let us know what you think about them! Do they work?

Trailer for Sam Rockwell's New Thriller A SINGLE SHOT

Sam Rockwell is a kick-ass actor that is excellent in anything he does. Last year he did a couple of great movies, that included some of the best characters he's ever played. Those films were Seven Psychopaths and The Way Way Back, the latter of which is officially coming out later this year.

Here's a teaser trailer for his latest film, a solid looking thriller called A Single Shot. As you'll see in the trailer it kind of has that same dark atmospheric tone as Jennifer Lawrence's Winter's Bone. The film is based on Matthew F. Jones’ 1996 novel. Here's the plot summary...

The tragic death of a beautiful young girl starts a tense and atmospheric game of cat and mouse between hunter John Moon and the hardened backwater criminals out for his blood.

The movie also stars  William H. Macy, Melissa Leo and Jeffrey Wright. It's set to premiere on April 26th at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Tim Burton to Direct Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams in BIG EYES

Tim Burton has signed on to direct Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams in a new film called Big Eyes, which was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood). This sounds like an interesting project for Burton to take on, which is a good thing! He's been needing to change things up a bit, and this is perfect for him!

The movie is based on a true story, and according to Deadline, Adams will play Margaret Keane and Waltz will play Walter Keane, "whose paintings of large eyed children became one of the first mass marketed art sensations in the 50s and 60s. Those prints sold in gas stations and every five and dime store across the country. While Walter was the marketing genius, he also took the bows for doing the brush work. He was a full fledged celebrity, a regular on the TV talk show circuit. His shy wife was the actual artist in the family. When they split and she tried to get her due, he painted her as being eccentric, and they ended up in court. There, a judge finally provided them with two easels and ordered them to prove it. Walter’s art reputation went down on the canvas when he begged off because of what he said was pain in his arm. She whipped up one of her trademark big-eyed works."

At one point, the writers of the movie were set to direct it with Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds in the lead roles, but I like this new cast much better. I'm also excited that Burton has decided to direct it. What do you think about the story behind this movie and the talent who's involved with it?

DARTH BABY'S LIGHTSABER - Hilarious Found Footage Style Short

In a world where Lightsabers are very real, a family franticly scrambles into action when their toddler finds and playfully wields the genuinely dangerous weapon. Created by Joel and Jared Erickson, Darth Baby's Lightsaber is a perfectly executed, found footage style short that is sure to make you laugh. The effects and sound are solid, no surprise there with Joel having credits like Argo, Transformers: Dark of The Moon, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation under his belt.

The performances from the "unwilling participants" are especially fun to watch. I've always wished that the technology in Star Wars was real, after watching this somewhat cautionary tale, maybe it's best left in a galaxy far, far away.

James McAvoy on Playing Professor X Like Patrick Stewart

When James McAvoy was cast as Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, a lot of fans wondered if he would try to mimic Patrick Stewart in his approach of the character. I'm glad that he didn't, I like the way he portrayed Professor X; he gave the character his own spin. In a recent interview with Huffington Post, however, the actor said that he might start to channel Stewart's Professor X by the time he makes his third X-Men movie. Here's what he had to say when asked about his take on the character:

There's a little element in the script in the first couple of pages of Charles' character where he seems like he's sort of picking up a girl in a bar. And I thought, Let's take that and run with it. I kind of pushed and pushed -- to really try to take him as far away from the Professor X that we've seen before in the comics and the cartoon and as portrayed by Patrick in the movies as well -- he's kind of like a monk. He's a sage. And he's wise and he's very in control of himself and sort of selfless. I wanted to take him the opposite way -- without making him a bad guy. But, make him selfish and a little bit egotistical and all of those things. I think that helped -- the fact I wasn't actually trying to do Patrick Stewart in the body of a 30-year-old man. I think if I would have done that, people would have rejected me.

When asked about shifting his portrayal of the character to more in the realm of Stewart he replied with...

No. Not yet. I think that may come. I mean, who knows? Who knows where it's going to go? That may come in the third movie but definitely not in this movie. We're not in the same place that we were in the first movie with Charles -- a very different place from there. But we're also still on a very different place from where Patrick was in the other movies.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is going to be very interesting because these two versions of the same character will both be featured together. I'm sure whatever McAvoy ends up doing with the character will work out just fine.

Disney has released a new sneak peek at their new animated film Planes featuring some playful new footage from the Cars inspired spinoff.

Dane Cook stars in the movie as a lead character Dusty, with Julia Louis-DreyfusTeri Hatcher, and John Cleese filling in some voices as well. Planes also includes a Top Gun reunion with Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards. Then there's Brad Garrett, Stacy Keach, Colin CowherdCedric the EntertainerGabriel IglesiasCarlos AlazraquiPriyanka Chopra, and Sinbad.

The movie will be released on August 9th, 2013, and I think it could end up being decently fun.

From high above the world of “Cars,” flies “Planes,” Disney’s upcoming animated action-packed comedic adventure starring Dusty, a big-hearted, fast-flying crop duster who dreams of competing in the most exhilarating around-the-world air race in history. There’s only a couple of not-so-small problems – Dusty is not exactly built for racing and he also happens to be afraid of heights.

Despite his fear and with encouragement from his mentor, a naval aviator named Skipper, Dusty narrowly qualifies for the big competition. Dusty’s sportsmanship and speed begin to rattle the defending champ of the race circuit, Ripslinger, who will stop at nothing to see Dusty fail.

When disaster strikes during the climax of the final race, Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test. With the support of friends old and new, Dusty reaches heights he never dreamed possible and in the process, gives a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.

Jason Dohring Joins VERONICA MARS Movie

Original Veronica Mars co-star Jason Dohring is officially back to reprise his role as Logan Echolls in the long awaited Veronica Mars movie currently being developed. Creator Rob Thomas announced the news today saying,

We now have three actors officially cast. Veronica. Logan and the waiter who says, 'Your check, sir.' Don't worry. We're busily working on bringing your favorites into the fold.

Thomas says that "life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling." Veronica and her former classmates will be returning to Neptune for their 10-year high school reunion, so this is one of many actors that will return for the movie. For more information on what you can expect to see in the film click here.

KITTY PRYDE Almost Got Her Own X-Men Spin-off Movie

Ellen Page was perfectly cast in the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand. She was one of the better aspects of the film, and I would have liked to see more of the character. I never would have thought there was almost a spin-off movie for the character, however. If FOX would have stayed the course with their X-Men Origins movies, then that's a movie that would have most likely happened. The news came from Juno director Jason Reitman in an interview with /Film; he said he was in talks with the studio to direct a Kitty Pryde movie, Page would reprised her role, and it would have been written by Diablo Cody (Juno, Evil Dead).

So basically the whole Juno team would have reunited for the film, which actually could have turned out pretty awesome. Page was blowing up at that time so it would have made sense to do this movie. Since then her popularity has kind of died down, but she is set to return to her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, so that's going to be cool!

Joss Whedon wrote a few great storylines for Pryde during his Astonishing X-Men run so there was definitely some good stories to choose from. Would you have liked to see a standalone Kitty Pryde movie with this talent involved?

EVIL DEAD - New Clip and Featurette

So I just got finished rewatching the original Evil Dead film. It's been about a year or so since I've seen it, and yep... it's still just as awesome as I remember! The remake that was directed by Fede Alvarez looks absolutely terrifying, and I'm so excited to see it! It looks like it will deliver on my expectations.

Sony has released a new clip and featurette for the film. The clip is called "In Here With Us", and the featurette includes Alvarez and Sam Raimi talking about what they did to make this movie work for fans of the original and audiences who have never seen Evil Dead before... poor bastards didn't know what they've been missing.

The movie stars Jane LevyShiloh FernandezLou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. It comes out this week on April 5th, 2013, and it's going to be loaded with blood drenched gory goodness!

The film follows five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist's tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

BIOSHOCK INFINITE: Get Your Songbird on in The Siege of Columbia Boardgame

I love that so many videogames have been making the jump to board game form over the past few years. The latest in that trend is Bioshock Infinite, with the just announced Siege of Columbia boardgame made by Plaid Hat Games. Gameplay revolves around the 2 warring factions vying for control of Columbia, with Booker and Elizabeth acting as randomized events that constantly change the game as they make their way through the city. Here is a snippet of the official release.

Set during the same series of events as the video game, players take on the role of the Founders and Vox Populi factions, desperately seeking to seize control of Columbia. Gain points from staking your claim to the city's territories and accomplishing other goals, all the while fighting your opponents and Booker while trying to influence Elizabeth and commanding an army of detailed miniatures as well as the Songbird and Airship!

In BioShock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia, each player uses their unique deck of cards to influence world events, build their army, fight off Booker, zoom around the city on the Sky-Line, and claw their way to ultimate control of Columbia.

Sounds pretty cool (cue Miley Cyrus Show voice), and if you preorder the game you get a special card and a $25 discount off the $84.95 asking price. Nice incentives to get in early, but if you don't, no worries. You can still get the game for full price when it comes out, which should be within the next 2 to 5 months.

I'm excited as hell to see Thor take on Malekith and the Dark Elves in Thor: The Dark World! I'm confident the sequel is going to be even more badass than the first movie. Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Blu-ray collectors' set we have our first look at a bit of footage from the film, some of which is behind the scenes stuff. The majority of the video focuses on Iron Man 3, but it also shows off some of the Ant-Man test footage that Edgar Wright shot, as well as some concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy, and it barely touches on The Avengers 2. Check it out!

MAHVEL by pepsiguy2

I've also included some photos from Thor and behind the scenes images from Iron Man 3, as well as some gifs of the Thor scenes shown in the video.

Matthew McConaughey Confirms He's in Nolan's INTERSTELLAR

Last week we learned that Christopher Nolan wanted Matthew McConaughey to star in his new sci-fi film project Interstellar. As expected, McConaughey has confirmed that he's taken the role. When talking to the Star Tribune the actor was asked if he accepted the role, and he simply said "I’m confirming." He offered no other details, which is normal for any Nolan film.

As of right now all that we know about the story is that it's based on scientific theories developed by Cal Tech physicist, Kip Thorne, and follows a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. It's also being described as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding." Knowing the films Nolan makes it's sure to melt our brains a little.

McConaughey is a solid actor that started his career making good movies, then for some reason ended up making a bunch of crappy movies that made me not like him, but now he's back making good movies again! Doing this movie is going to be one of the best moves of his career. I'm happy to hear that he took the role, and I'm excited to see what Nolan is planning for us!

Some more concept art from Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier has hit the net featuring our first look at what the design of The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) might look like, and it gives us a new look at The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), as well as Captain America (Chris Evans) himself. These may not be the final designs, but it's enough to show us, roughly, what we will see in the film.

To check out the Guardians of the Galaxy concept art that was released yesterday click here. All the concept art was included in the new Marvel phase one box set.

Anthony and Joe Russo will direct Winter Soldier, which also stars Frank Grillo as Crossbones and Robert Redford as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Also along for the ride are characters from Marvel's The Avengers, including Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders, as well as First Avenger star Toby Jones. The film arrives in 2D and 3D theaters on April 4th, 2014.

Look over the concept art and let us know what you think of the designs!

GameStick: Hands-On Look at What This New Console Has to Offer

Yesterday, we released the full list of launch games for the OUYA console, which many fans have been hyped about ever since it first appeared on Kickstarter. Now we have some news about the GameStick console, which also started on Kickstarter, and is pretty much the direct rival to the OUYA.

Our friends over at MobileGeeks.com got a hands-on look at the console, as well as the operating system itself. They were able to play around with the dashboard, which looks strikingly similar to the Xbox dashboard (which is not a bad thing BTW), as well as play a game to show off the capabilities of the console.

The only bad thing I noticed about what takes place during this video is the long load time it took to launch a game. We all must remember though that this is just a dev unit and not the final product. We should also keep in mind that this is running off the Android platform so that could have had something to do with the lagging load time, as well. Regardless, once they were up and running within the game it looked fantastic and seemed to play great.

Did you get a chance to contribute to the Kickstarter for GameStick? I did, and I can’t wait to receive my unit!

In anticipation of the release of Oblivion later this month, Universal Pictures has released another featurette for the movie that focuses on Iceland, which is where Joseph Kosinski shot the film. The story is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth 60 years in the future after an alien invasion. Cruise plays commander Jack Harper, who is stationed on Earth and assigned with extracting the planet's few remaining resources.

I don't know if you've been watching the featurettes for this movie or not, but they're packed full of really cool, interesting stuff that I think a lot of you might like. To watch the Sky Tower featurette click here, and to watch the Bubbleship featurette click here. The movie comes out on April 19th, 2013, and it looks like it's going to be a solid sci-fi film! Check out the latest featurette.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautifulstranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Will Arnett Joins NINJA TURTLES Movie

Arrested Development's Will Arnett has joined the cast of the Jonathan Liebesman-directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. There's no official word on who he'll be playing yet as it's being kept secret. There are still a few main characters who have still yet to be cast, those characters are Splinter, Shredder, and Casey Jones, but I can't really see him playing any of those. There's always Rocksteady and Bebop though! I honestly can't see him playing anyone other than a comic relief character.

Arnett joins the previously cast Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Pete Ploszek as play Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Alan Ritchson as Raphael and Noel Fisher as Michaelangelo.

The film is set to be released on May 16th, 2014. Who do you think Arnett will be playing in the movie?

Trailer for Ethan Hawk's New Thriller THE PURGE

"One night a year all crime is legal…can you survive the night?"

Here's a solid trailer for a terrific looking thriller called The Purge. The film has a crazy premise that focuses on a society where crime is legal for one night a year to let people vent their frustrations, and get as violent as they want. Everything seems like it's going to be good for one family until one of the kids screws it all up and puts the family in a very insane and scary situation. This is an intriguing idea for a movie, and it looks like they pulled it off! I think the film looks awesome!

It was written and directed by Assault on Precinct 13 and The Negotiator writer James DeMonaco, and it comes from the producing team that brought us Paranormal Activity and Sinister. The movie stars Ethan HawkLena Headey, Rhys Wakefield, Max Burkholder, and Adelaide Kane

If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—becomes legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

The Purge is set to be released on May 31st. Hope you enjoy the trailer!
