Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace to Join ANIMAL RESCUE

0
0

Tom Hardy (Dark Knight Rises) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) are in negotiations with Fox Seachlight Pictures to join the drama Animal Rescue. The movie will be directed by Bullhead director Michael R. Roskam from a script written by Gone Baby Gone author Dennis Lehane.

The story is set on the outskirts of Boston, and focuses on "a man who wants to shed his criminal path but somehow gets mixed up in a bad heist and a killing resulting from a lost and contested pit bull."

This will be the next film that Hardy does before he takes on the big screen adaptation of Splinter Cell. Another film he's set to star in is director Doug Liman's film Everest where he'll play British mountain climber George Mallory on his quest to become the first person to scale Mt. Everest.

Hardy is also producing a couple of projects with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio. He will star in one and potentially star in the other. In one of the films Hardy will play "a former Special Forces soldier who signs on with a friend to work in the bush, training rangers to fight off the poachers decimating the rhino and elephant populations in Zimbabwe." The second film that he might be in with Maguire and DiCaprio focuses on "the trafficking industry that exploits the global market for illicit parts from slain animals that are used as aphrodisiacs and other ridiculous purposes."

As you can see Hardy has got a lot of projects on his plate, which isn't surprising because he's a great actor. I'm looking forward to seeing how all these projects turn out.

Boba Fett Vs. Beetlejuice Sandworm! - Geek Art

Check out this hilariously rad piece of Geek Art featuring Boba Fett fighting off a giant Sandworm from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice! The illustration was created by Dennis Hart and I think the mashup of these two different worlds turned out extremely cool! It also looks like he's using some kind Ghostbusters Proton Pack, mashed up with his own jet back... sweet.

Quentin Tarantino Almost Directed LUKE CAGE Movie with Laurence Fishburne

0
0

It's hard for me to imagine Quentin Tarantino directing a superhero comic book film. But it almost happened a couple of times. Warner Bros. asked him to direct Green Lantern, and he turned it down -- you can bet your ass it would have been a lot better than the one we ended up with. However, there was one comic book movie that he seriously considered making in his career, that was a Luke Cage movie called Hero for Hire, which would have starred Laurence Fishburne. Here's what he told MTV,

After 'Reservoir Dogs,' I had considered doing a 'Luke Cage, Hero for Hire' movie. [Producer] Ed Pressman owned the rights at that time, and we talked about it. I talked to Larry Fish [Laurence Fishburne] about being Luke Cage, and he really liked that idea. Then I ended up writing 'Pulp Fiction.'

We'll as much as I would have loved to see Tarantino's version of Luke Cage, making Pulp Fiction was the right call. It kind of feels like if Tarantino would have done Luke Cage, his career could have gone in a completely different direction. Pulp Fiction (as we know it) would have never been made. He's never really been interested in doing any other superhero film since, unless he makes up the character himself.

My feeling is if I wanted to do something like that, I'd want to create the superhero myself.

If you ask me, I'd say that The Bride from the Kill Bill series is a pretty awesome superhero. So it's not like he hasn't done it already. Tarantino also helped Robert Rodriguez a little bit with the first Sin City movie. When Tarantino was asked if would be directing a segment in the sequel he said,

I think it's all Robert. He hasn't gotten in touch with me about anything, so probably not.

Would you have liked to see Tarantino make a Luke Cage movie? I guess if he directed any comic book film Luke Cage would have been a good fit for him.

Eddie Redmayne Joins The Wachowski's JUPITER ASCENDING

0
0

Les Miserables co-star Eddie Redmayne is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to join Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in the Wachowski's next sci-fi film project Jupiter Ascending

The story takes place in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe. Redmayne seems like a solid actor, there's no information on who he will play in the film, but it's going to be an epic film. It kind of sounds like a much bigger sci-fi retelling of Snow White.

I'm a huge fan of The Wachowski's films, this sounds like it will be a really cool movie. My two favorite Wachowski films are The Matrix and Speed Racer, and I hope they have fun with this next film project and bring us something incredibly entertaining.

Here's a more detailed rundown of what the movie is about:

Imagine a universe in which “human beings are just the Cro-Magnons, or even the Australopithecines, of what beings can ultimately go on to become in the galaxy. It’s a return to form for [the Wachowskis], because these higher forms of life are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons.

[It's] supposed to be the first entry in a trilogy, centers on an unlikely (and as with The Matrix, ultimately reluctant) heroine: A recent Russian immigrant — played by actual Ukrainian immigrant Mila Kunis — who is busily scrubbing toilets for a living. Unbeknownst to her, she actually possesses the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her otherwise immortal rule.

These evolved beings fall into various different groups, all of which share some human DNA but who have become evolved after being bred with animal DNA to heighten their best characteristics — e.g., soldiers getting their fearlessness, strength, and a pack mentality from wolves; workers getting their industriousness and reputation for diligence from bees.

Pretty soon, a bounty hunter of the evolved-being type is dispatched to dispose of the Cleaning Lady with the Great Pair of Nucloetides, but, as you’d expect with a Matrix re-dux, they fall in love.  And for having fallen for his target, the bounty hunter — who we hear will be played by Channing Tatum — well, let’s just say that things get messy after that, because his employers take a-less-than-enlightened-being reaction to his decision to protect rather than kill her.

Ricky Gervais to Star in THE MUPPETS Sequel

0
0

I haven't seen much of Ricky Gervais lately, but the British comedian is currently in negotiations to star The Muppets sequel currently in development over at Disney. The movie has three main human roles, along with a ton of cameos, but Gervais will be playing the biggest human lead role in the film. It will be just as big as Jason Segel's part in the first film, but there's no details on the character that he'll be playing. He actually shot a cameo for the first movie but the scene didn't end up in the final cut of the film. Gervais is a funny dude, and I can easily see him in a Muppets movie.

Modern Family'Ty Burrell was previously cast in the role of a lazy Interpol inspector, and the director of the first film James Bobin is back to direct the movie from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Stoller. Segel will not be returning for the sequel in any capacity. The first Muppets film was really fun, and all I can hope for is that the sequel turns out just as entertaining.

Samuel L. Jackson Set to Star in Japanese Anime KITE Remake

0
0

Samuel L. Jackson revealed in a recent interview that one of his next film projects will be a live-action remake of the Japanese anime Kite. Here's what he told MovieHole

After [RoboCop], I'm going to do this live-action version of Kite, the Japanese anime. I'll be doing a live-action version of that in Johannesburg.

Jackson will be reuniting with Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis to make the movie. The story follows a "young woman living in a failed state, post-financial collapse, where the corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When her father, a cop, is slain by someone dirty inside the force, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of her father’s ex-partner—never realizing he is, in fact, the man who had her father killed." This should make a solid live action film, the anime is great, and it should be interesting to see what Ellis ends up doing with the project!

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the story for Kite:

Kite revolves around a schoolgirl named Sawa (さわ) who is orphaned in her early teens. Her parents are the victims of a gory double murder. The detectives investigating the crime, Akai あかい ("red") and Kanie, take her in as guardians. Akai begins a sexual relationship with Sawa, forcing her to become his sex slave for the duration of his guardianship. Akai also gives her a pair of crystal earrings, each one containing the blood of one of her parents.

Sawa becomes an assassin after the corrupt detectives make her kill an alleged rapist of young girls. Subsequently over the years, she kills whomever she is ordered to, including corrupt police officers and corporate fat cats. Sawa's assassinations are famous among the police for her use of special bullets that explode inside the body after piercing the skin.

Jackson is then once again asked if he would like to be in Star Wars: Episode VII to which he replied,

F**k yeah! Whatever. They can bring me back alive with one hand, I don't care -- just let me back in!

I'm not the biggest fans of the prequel films, and I'd be fine if Mace didn't show up in any future installments.

Here is a sweet little infographic by Cathryn Lavery that takes a look at the evolution of the Batman logo over the years. The chart takes us through the years from 1940's Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder all the way up to The Dark Knight Rises.

The piece is described as follows:

A comprehensive and extensive chart of the Batman logo evolution, spanning over 72 years from 1940 - 2012 to map the transformation of a timeless hero. Each poster is stamped and numbered by artist Cathryn Lavery from an edition of 500.

Michael Bay Says Those TRANSFORMERS 4 Story Details Are False

0
0

Earlier today we posted some details for the upcoming Transformers 4 movie that supposedly came from the script saying that Unicron was the main villain of the movie and more. I actually liked what I saw, but Bay has released a statement saying they are false. Here's his statement,

Some Internet sites this morning reported that some document recovery guy has found a legitimate 120 page script of Transformers 4. I can absolutely 100 percent say this is completely false. The only two people in the world that have our unfinished script are Kruger and myself. Also we are only up to page 70 in our T4 script. Maybe this guy has a cartoon or something else – but definitely not our movie!

So there ya go. But I'm going to speculate for a moment... remember when news leaked that Mark Wahlberg was cast in the film, and Bay came out and said he was cast in another project he was working on? A week later Bay officially announced Wahlberg's involvement with Transformers 4, and said it was because of the internet chatter from the rumor. Turns out Wahlberg was always going to be in the movie even when Bay denied it. I wonder if this is the same thing, information leaks, it could be true, but then Bay quickly denies it, even though there might be some truth to it.

Maybe he's leaking the info on purpose to gauge the reaction from fans on what they might be doing, and then denies it and moves forward with what he was working on. You never know with Bay.

THE GREAT GATSBY Poster Featuring Isla Fisher

0
0

Here is a new character poster featuring Isla Fisher for Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Fisher plays Myrtle Wilson in the film based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel.

Synopsis:

The film follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan also star in the film set for release in 3D and 2D theaters on May 10, 2013.

New BROKEN CITY Trailer and Details about TED Sequel

0
0

Mark Wahlberg has been busy with Ted, which made over $500 million at Universal Pictures, and filming Pain & Gain opposite Dwayne Johnson. While doing press for Allen Hughes' Broken City, Wahlberg shared some new details about the Ted sequel and Transformers 4

Speaking to Collider (via The Film Stage), Wahlberg stated that "the plan is to shoot Bay’s robot sequel this May and then segue directly into a sequel to Ted, which could mean production right around a year from now considering the normally lengthy shooting schedule for Bay." Things are looking good for a Summer 2014 release for Ted, since it is obviously a priority for Universal.

Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones also star in the crime drama opening January 18th. Check out the new trailer from MTV and share your thoughts.

Jack Huston Auditioned for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston revealed to MTV that he had auditioned for the role of Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite breaking a bone during filming of his latest movie, Not Fade Away, he stated that he is "more than capable" of handling the role. Here's what he had to say,

There was a screen test. Like I said, brittle bones. Maybe they'll call me Glass Man. 'Here he comes. Oh, he fell over.'

I would love to do it. I tell you, these bones are strong. If you need a guardian to look after this galaxy, look no further.

James Gunn (Slither) is directing the story that follows a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. Star-Lord is the pilot and leader of the space superhero team.

The movie is set to hit theaters on August 1st, 2014.

PACIFIC RIM Robot Voice Confirmed as GLaDOS!

0
0

When the first trailer for Pacific Rim hit a lot of us thought the voice of the robot sounded very familiar. It looks like many of our readers were right, because Guillermo del Toro confirmed that the voice of the robot is GLaDOS from the video game Portal

Del Toro is a big fan of the game, and he hired Ellen McLain, the actor that provides the voice of GLaDOS in the game, to do the same exact voice in the movie as well. According to Forbes the director even had her voice run through nearly the exact same alteration process as in Portal, so they would sound exactly alike.

This is a pretty cool shoutout to the fans. It's not new news that McLain was cast in the film, but no one knew that she would be hired to do her GLaDOS voice in the film until we all heard it in the trailer. It seems like fans love it! Del Toro is such an awesome geek. Do you like that GLaDOS will in a way be in the film, or do you think it will be distracting? Because the guy at Forbes says it will be distracting...

No, it’s doubtful the film is actually calling her GLaDOS as that would be a definite overstep, but that voice is so iconic, it almost seems like an overreach to use it. As a fan of both Del Toro and Portal, I’m not so sure about the move. This goes beyond “homage” to the point where it might be a bit distracting for the film if we’re constantly associating the voice with another iconic character every time it utters a word. It’s like if they threw Kratos in Wrath of the Titans, or something similarly out of the blue.

Do you agree or disagree with him?

Josh Hutcherson Cast in Pablo Escobar Drama PARADISE LOST

0
0

The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson is going to join Benicio del Toro in the Pablo Escobar drama Paradise Lost.

The movie is based on a true story that centers on Nick, a young Irish surfer who visits his brother in Colombia and while he's there he falls in love with a beautiful local girl named Maria. There's one catch to the relationship... Pablo Escobar is her uncle. Hutcherson will play the lead role of Nick.

Life of Pi screenwriter Andrea di Stefano wrote the script for the film and will also be directing it as well. The movie is not a Pablo Escobar biopic, but it "will have a narrative structure in the vein of The Last King of Scotland, weaving Nick and Maria's romance with Nick's ambivalent and destructive relationship with Escobar."

Hutcherson will start working on the film once he's finished up with the second installment of The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire.

theMulticast: Is FAR CRY 3 Worth All the Hype?

0

This week on theMulticast, we tackle the last big game of the year, Far Cry 3. Sure it has a high critical rating and the fans love it, but perhaps they are wrong and easily impressed. We are here to save the day! What does the dark corner of videogame podcasts feel about Ubisoft's latest release? You'd be surprised. Either this show has finally found a heart or we are being corrupted by the tattoos.

In our second segment, we break down the trailers from the VGAs. These were supposed to get us excited for the coming year. However, there were more misses than hits. We are left less enthralled and scratching our heads some more. Check out why we were not blown away and why you shouldn't be either.

Wicked Witch Character Poster for OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

0
0

Now this is one badass looking Wicked Witch! Sam Raimi sure knows how to bring out the terrifying elements of a witch. I love the nightmarishly awesome look shown in this character poster for OZ The Great and Powerful. This is the best look we've seen of this character so far. The more I see of this movie the more excited I get. It looks like Raimi is doing some incredible stuff with this film, and I'm looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. I've heard a lot of people compare it to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, but I think this looks like it's going to be a hell of a lot better.

Oz: The Great And Powerful is set to hit theaters March 8th, 2013.

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Will Nick Fury's Backstory Be Included in CAPTAIN AMERICA 2?

0
0

I've enjoyed Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in the Marvel films. He's a great character that's also helped tie everything together leading up to The Avengers, which is where he had his biggest role. It sounds like he'll also have a bigger role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In a recent interview with Comingsoon he talked about the character saying,

Everybody likes a franchise character. Bruce (Willis) had his and Sylvester Stallone had Rocky, so I like coming back to Nick Fury. Nick Fury's a great guy.

The site then asked him if we'd ever see a Nick Fury movie that will give us some background on the character to which Jackson replied,

I think a lot of people know that. I know him as something else because I've been alive longer than most of the fans that watch the movies so I know Nick Fury as the World War II veteran and all that stuff. It might be interesting to do one day but we find out little bits and pieces about Nick and we're going into Captain America 2 in late March.

He then confirmed that Fury does have a bigger role in the Captain America sequel. The movie is going to have a good deal of World War II flashbacks, and it sounds like we are going to see some backstory on Fury during that time period, which will be awesome! It makes sense that it would be included in this story. The movie will also give us some backstory on Black Widow. I don't think Fury really needs his own movie, because he can show up in any storyline that he's needed in. But, if it did eventually happen I wouldn't complain.

New Trailer for Jason Bateman's IDENTITY THIEF

0
0

Universal Pictures has released a second fun trailer for the Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief. It features new footage from the film, shows us more of the supporting cast, and gives us a little more insight on the story. Having your identity stolen has got to be one of the most frustrating things ever, but director Seth Gordon managed to make a fun looking comedy out of it.

The movie also stars Jon FavreauAmanda Peet, Tip "T.I." Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Morris Chestnut, John Cho, Robert Patrick and Eric Stonestreet

In the film, unlimited funds have allowed Diana (Melissa McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads “Sandy Bigelow Patterson”… and it belongs to an accounts rep (Jason Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S.

With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.

Identity Thief arrives on February 8th, 2013. The movie looks like it will have some funny moments, and I like to laugh so I'll be checking it out.

Great Collection of Poster Art Inspired by TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D

0
0

The first Texas Chainsaw Massacre film was absolutely terrifying, and none of the sequels have been able to replicate that insanity. Hollywood keeps trying to do it, but always falls short. The original is a one of a kind film, but as you know Lionsgate is looking to revive the franchise again with Texas Chainsaw 3D. We all know that 3D doesn't make a movie better, and regardless of all the failed attempts with this franchise, I still hope that this one ends up surprising me.

The studio teamed up with with Vice.com to bring us a collection of 30 cool pieces of poster art for The Gallery of Horrors: Original Art & Video Inspired by Texas Chainsaw 3D. Lionsgate will eventually release these as a single image. I've posted some of my favorite pieces below, but to see all 30 head on over to Vice.com. Some of these designs are very inventive and awesome.

The film was directed by John Luessenhop and stars Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood and Tania Raymonde. It opens up in theaters on January 4th, 2013, and it's a direct sequel to the original film.

Lionsgate’s TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family–or so they thought. Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

Li’l Gotham City Sirens - Geek Art

Here's a really fun illustration created by artist Cynthia “Thea” Rodgers called "Li’l Gotham City Sirens". It features Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy as little rambunctious little girls. The piece was part of CBM's The Line it is Drawn. I like how Harley is about to smash that bird with her giant hammer.

Cool Animated Short Trailer Reimagines E.T. as Horror Film

Here's fun trailer for a for an animated short that reimagines E.T. as a horror film. This was created by a group of students from The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark. The assignment was to make a trailer loosely inspired by the classic Steven Spielberg film E.T., but as you'll see there's also a little Alien influence thrown into it as well. This is what they came up with...
