Makeup Test for Frodo as Gollum Creature in LORD OF THE RINGS

0
0

Check out this awesome never-before-seen photo of Elijah Wood as a Gollum like creature. As you all know Frodo could have very well had the same fate as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings if he didn't keep pressing forward on to Mount Doom. We saw little glimpses of Frodo with that Gollum look throughout the journey because he was struggling with the addictive power of the ring.

Apparently Peter Jackson had a scene in mind where we would actually see Frodo had the ring completely taken over him. This photo features a makeup test for the scene that was never shot, and he looks freakin' frightening. I would be interested to know how Jackson would have incorporated this into the story.

GAME OF THRONES Season 3 Will Have Longer Episodes

0
0

HBO's Game of Thrones is about to get even better, because next season we will be getting longer episodes! There's so much story to tell and so much content that they have no choice but to give us more! The news comes from Entertainment Weekly reporting,

With showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss tackling content from the first half (roughly) of author George R.R. Martin’s largest Song of Ice and Fire novel (the 973-page fan-favorite A Storm of Swords), the writer-producer duo are delivering slightly longer episodes to the network. There’s still 10, but you’ll get a little more each week than previous seasons. So for people clamoring for another episode, it’s in there. It’s just been cut into tiny pieces.

Weiss explained,

There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season. One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.

Benioff then explains that, "a super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords. Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57." So it's not really a great deal of time but it's still more. They then reveal that the final episode of season three will be over an hour long.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on March 31st, 2013.

Joe Roth to Produce Creepy Film DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE

Universal Pictures has hired Snow White and The Huntsman producer Joe Roth to develop a feature film adaptation of the Laini Taylor young adult fantasy novel, Daughter Of Smoke & Bone.

It's a creepy story that centers on a "17-year-old art student who is sent by her awful father on travels across the globe to collect teeth for an unspecified but creepy purpose. This leads her to an encounter with an angel and revelations about her family that lead her into adventures involving otherworldly beings." The story has got some interesting elements, and it sounds like a cool story. Roth had this to say in a statement,

In Daughter Of Smoke & Bone, Laini Taylor masterfully tells a story of identity and destiny that welcomes readers into a fantastical world with a unique mythology. It is very different than anything we’ve seen before and I look forward to bringing the fascinating characters to the big screen.

This sounds like it will make for a solid fantasy epic, and I'm sure it will be cool to see how it turns out. If you've read the book, let us know if you think it will make for a good movie! Here's the description provided from the book:

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Great New Red-Band Trailer for JOHN DIES AT THE END

0
0

I had a blast watching John Dies at the End, it was just a really fun movie that the internet crowd will absolutely love. I loved the weird insanity of it all! A fantastic new red-band trailer showing off more of the film's madness has been released. The movie is sure to be a cult classic.

The movie was written and directed by Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) and was adapted from the novel written by Cracked.com's David Wong. It stars Paul GiamattiChase Williamson as David, Rob Meyers as John, Doug Jones and Clancy Brown who plays a badass Russian paranormal psychic named Dr. Albert Marconi.

Synopsis:

It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.

Magnet will release the movie on January 25th, 2013.

Here's a little bit of what I said in my review,

I loved that they took the film where they did, and accepted it for what it was, embracing the bizarreness of it all. I probably would have loved it just as much had they held back a bit as well. Frankly, I enjoyed the characters. It was their personalities mixed in with the supernatural element and wackiness that made this movie so fun and entertaining for me. There are so many ways this movie could have sucked ass, but it was these characters that made it what it was and made it work so well.

John Dies at the End is sure to end up being a cult classic, and it's not to be missed when it eventually gets released. You need to experience this movie for yourself, nothing I or anyone else says can prepare you for the absurd hysteria!

Batman's Got Sex on the Brain in This NSFW Comedy Sketch

Batman's got sex on the brain in this great NSFW comedy sketch from College Humor. The sketch gives a whole new meaning to the title The Dark Knight Rises. In it Batman can't stop talking about his sexual escapades with Talia after she stabs him and reveals her master plan. There's some pervertedly funny details revealed.

The video contains sexual references and explict language. I just wanted to throw one last warning out there to make sure that's clear. Ok, you can watch it now if you want. It does have some really funny moments.

S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series Will Premiere in Fall 2013!

In case you're wondering when you will be able to watch the S.H.I.E.L.D TV series that Joss Whedon is developing, Marvel TV head Jeff Loeb says it will be released in the Fall of 2013! Here's what he told PREVIEWSworld in a recent interview,

We have a "little" pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson — the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!"

Whedon is sure to give us the incredible TV series that we're all expecting. The guy is working with a team of talented people, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they've got planned for the fans. On top of Clark Gregg's involvement, there's Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons and Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz.

The story will revolve around the activities of the top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage organization featured throughout the Marvel films. Whedon is tentatively set to direct the pilot. It's cool to know that we'll actually get to watch this series next year.

Funny First Look at Steve Carrell and Steve Buscemi as Magicians

New Line Cinema has released the first two photos from their new film The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The one above gives us out first look at Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi as hilarious looking magicians. The one below also features Jim Carrey. This sounds like it could be a really fun comedy.

The story follows superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Buscemi) who have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt's growing ego. But lately the duo's greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they've grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerrilla street magician Steve Gray (Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there's still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Carrey had this to say in a interview with USA Today,

This is a first, even in real life. I never achieved mullet-ness in all of my years. It's pretty fantastic, isn't it? There is actually a multitude of scintillating looks that I rock in this movie. From the mullet to the lion's mane to a frosted coif.

Director Don Scardino added, "This is definitely a wig picture. The hair budget was killer. Jim Carrey wears a really outrageous one."

The movie also stars Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin and James Gandolfini. It will be released in theaters on March 15th, 2013. Stay tuned because the first trailer should be released some time this week.

PREDATORS Writer Will Take on HELLIFIED

0
0

Predators co-writer Michael Finch has been hired by Paramount Pictures to write a supernatural action film called Hellified. This actually sounds like a really cool project! The story follows a strike force, comprised of criminals, that goes to Hell in order to stop the End of Days.

The film has a lot of potential, and could end up being extremely entertaining if done right. The concept was snatched up by the studio back in 2009, and Red Dawn director Dan Bradley was attached to helm it. When the project was first being developed, Hell was going to be a CGI-created inferno overrun by demons! They were headed in the right direction but things have changed.

According to THR the project has been scaled back to accommodate a more moderate budget. So now all Hell will be is a ruined bombed and destroyed urban landscape, which is just plain boring. Maybe the script will end up being good, but I wish Hell would really be the Hell they originally planned. It would make things so much more interesting. The demolished city setting has been done to death.

Crazy Red-Band Trailer for the Sci-fi Horror Film STORAGE 24

Check out this bloody fun red-band trailer for a cool looking British sci-fi monster film called Storage 24. The movie was written by Doctor Who's Noel Clarke who also stars in the movie as well. One of the great things about this movie is the fact that there's very little CGI. The alien monster, and all of the blood and carnage that goes along with it, are all practical effects which is a very rare thing to see these days. It looks like they did an awesome job pulling it off.

Synopsis:

London is in chaos. A military cargo plane has crashed leaving its highly classified contents strewn across the city. Completely unaware London is in lockdown, Charlie (Noel Clarke) and Shelley (Antonia Campbell-Hughes), accompanied by best friends Mark (Colin O'Donoghue) and Nikki (Laura Haddock), are at Storage 24 dividing up their possessions after a recent break-up. Suddenly, the power goes off. Trapped in a dark maze of endless corridors, a mystery predator is hunting them one by one. In a place designed to keep things in, how do you get out?

Storage 24 can currently be watched On Demand, and is set to premiere in theaters on January 11th, 2013. I'll definitley be checking this one out as soon as I have the time!

Christoph Waltz: A Foreign Perspective On Tarantino

0
0

I was listening to an awesome interview on NPR this morning (you can too if you follow this link) about Christoph Waltz and it really opened my eyes to what an amazing man this guy really is. Let's forget the fact that ten years ago you wouldn't have known his name state-side. Let's push aside the fact that his debut into acting in America and his first Oscar both came at the age of 52. All of these successes and the fact he has propelled his career to several high profile movies since then are great considering the best the Austrian actor could hope for prior to 2009 was a leading role in a European TV movie are all remarkable achievements, but perhaps the most impressive fact is who he came up under.

I don't believe I am being unfair when I say Quentin Tarantino can be a very Americentric director. His stylized writing compliments and is driven towards an understanding of our language, his use of pop culture highly relevant to us, and violence and subject matter very relevant to the lives we've known or read about in our culture. You can live in America your entire life and still not fully grasp the language and beauty behind Tarantino's words and rhythm, but in a simple explanation Waltz seemed to draw out a perspective I never, and perhaps could never see about the famous director...

"It's something about Quentin's writing. ... It's something about these specific words. Words are not all the same, and the combination of words. ... [I]t's an actor's dream to try to wrap his mind around these sentences. ... They jump at you because [of] the phrasing. It's not just the words in themselves, it's the rhythm that [Quentin] creates. You know, you might have heard very clearly, which is a good example, is 'that of the rat.' ... [I]f you have these two words, the pause between 'that ... of the rat' is unavoidable, so you don't need to actually write anything, or take any notes. You just need to hand yourself over to the flow."

Waltz also admired Tarantino's ability to draw someone into a film (his example being Death Proof) when the characters are doing something so simple as driving in a car. It's truly a fantastic interview and a perspective I think worth hearing for any critics or fans of Tarantino. Check it out. It makes me even more excited to see the two combine forces once again for Django Unchained.

RIDDICK Finally Has a Release Date!

0
0

Universal Pictures has finally given Vin Diesel's Riddick film a release date, and that date is September 6th, 2013! You will be able to watch it in either IMAX or conventional theaters.

The movie was written and directed by David Twohy, and from everything I've seen and heard of the movie so far, I have a feeling it will live up to the fans' expectations. As a little bonus with the announcement, Diesel posted the photo above of himself and the director on his official Facebook page. Hopefully we get a trailer in the near future!

Synopsis:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

"Nothing says Christmas like slaves and whores."

Samuel L. Jackson and Anne Hathaway both have movies that are opening up on Christmas Day, those movie are Django Unchained and Les Misérables. The two actors recently got together and ended up having a hilarious debate on who has the saddest film. The debate escalates into an unexpected but very funny argument that offers some solid laughs. Enjoy!

FUSE - Insomniac Games' Latest Title Looks to Offer Over-the-top Fun

0
0

Insomniac Games' (Resistance, Ratchet and Clank) first multiplatform title is looking to offer up a solid dose of shooting nonsense with an interesting squad mechanic system. I enjoy the look, tone, and over-the-top violence of the game so far. I don't think this game will blow the doors off the industry, but it certainly looks like it will be a blast. But, who knows? Maybe it's a GOTY in the making.

I find it weird to see EA publishing Fuse. Maybe it is because Insomniac worked with Sony for a butt-ton of years, but it's just jarring to see that company attached to the game.

3 New Character Poster for THE GREAT GATSBY

0
0

Baz Luhrmann's big screen vision of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby looks amazing. I watched the trailer again recently, and it just looks like it's going to be a great movie. I love the style, tone and feel of the roaring '20s. It's just got a cool vibe. Three new character posters have been released for the film featuring Tobey Maguire's Nick Carraway, Elizabeth Debicki's Jordan Baker and Joel Edgarton as Tom Buchanan.

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

The movie also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Isla Fisher, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke and Amitabh Bachchan. It hits theaters in 3D and 2D on May 10th, 2013.

Here's the trailer for the film if you haven't watched it in awhile.

Hugh Jackman Confirmed for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director Bryan Singer has confirmed via his Twitter that Hugh Jackman is officially on board to reprise his role as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Of course Jackman is going to reprise his role! He loves the Wolverine character!

Days of Future past is a sequel to X-Men: First Class, but due to the time travel elements of the story other characters from the previous Singer films will be included in the story. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were previously confirmed by the director to reprise their roles as Charles Xavier and Magneto. First Class stars James McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will also all be back for more. It will be interesting to see what other cast members Singer is looking to have join the film. I've heard rumors that James Marsden is being talked to about coming back as Cyclops, and I hope that's true! His character should have never died, and by playing with the whole time travel thing, that could be reversed.

The sequel is based on 1981's Uncanny X-Men which came from writer Chris Claremont and artists John Byrne and Terry Austin. The story is set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been thrown in concentration camps, Sentinels are patrolling America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted down and killed. The present day X-Men are forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring.
