New Line Cinema has released a new poster for Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer featuring Jack coming face to mouth with a giant... statue. I really hope this movie turns out good. The story looks like it will be fun, but the special effects don't really look all that great. Maybe they just aren't finished yet, but I expect them to be! To watch that trailer click here

Synopsis:

Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

The film stars  Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson and Ewan McGregor. The movie will be released in theaters on March 1st, 2013.

James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, John Carter) have teamed up to star in a UK action thriller called Welcome to the Punch. It was written and directed by Eran Creevy (Shifty), and the movie looks like it's going to be a very dark, gritty and cool action film. The story follows a notorious criminal who's is forced to return to London, which ends up giving a detective "one last chance to take down the man he's always been after."

The clip shows us a scene in which McAvoy's character is chasing after a group of bikers and ends up taking one down. As for the trailer, I really liked what I saw and I'm looking forward to checking this film out!

Synopsis:

Former criminal Jacob Sternwood is forced to return to London from his Icelandic hideaway when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong. This gives detective Max Lewinsky one last chance to catch the man he has always been after. As they face off, they start to uncover a deeper conspiracy they both need to solve in order to survive.

Welcome to the Punch hits theaters in the UK on March 15th, 2013 and will be released in the US later in the year. The film also stars Andrea Riseborough, David Morrissey, Peter Mullan, Elyes Gabel, Jason Flemyng, Daniel Kaluuya, Daniel Mays and Johnny Harris.

Captain America Custom Xbox 360 Needs to be in My Living Room

The second in a series of Avengers themed Xbox 360 Slim's (his Iron Man custom was first), this installment features the greatest Avenger of them all, Captain America. Created by Zachariah Perry, this is a stellar custom, and it's fully painted, not just a shell or a case. The shield on the side is actually a full painted separate piece, and I love how even the small cable area in the back is fully painted and fits the character's color scheme. Also of note is how the LED that lights up the power button is actually blue on this model, not the usual green.

I cannot tell you how much I love this. Being a huge Cap fan myself, it takes all I have not to walk around with my own shield to throw at people, nonetheless have a custom Cap 360 sitting in my entertainment unit. If you like his stuff as much I do you can contact him for a quote on your own custom commission. Probably won't be cheap, but hey, for a one of a kind item it probably shouldn't be.

Here is a must-watch video that shows us what some of our favorite pop culture characters would sound like as zombies. According to Vulture, Walking Dead showrunner Glenn Mazzara, shared that the zombie gurgles and grunts are made by people walking around in a sound booth moaning.

Here is a hilarious video that shows how The Goonies' Chunk, Charlie Brown's teacher, Sesame Street's Yip Yip aliens and more sounds zombified.

It Looks Like KILL BILL VOL. 3 Won't Happen

For those of you like myself who were hoping Quentin Tarantino would make Kill Bill Vol. 3, sorry to say that it doesn't look like it's going to happen. The director has talked about a third film on and off for years. In fact, he's mentioned that the revenge story could have two more chapters. One of them would center on two members of the Crazy 88s who lost their arms and eyes in the classically epic fight with Uma Thurman's The Bride. The other one would focus on the grown daughters of Beatrix Kiddo and Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) as they seek to avenge the death of their mothers. Back in 2005 Tarantino revealed that the films would take place 10 years later, and it was previously reported that Thurman would be up for it if Tarantino followed through with it.

These are films that I'd love to see! So it kind of sucked to hear Tarantino say the following in response to a question asked by We Got This Covered,

I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill Vol. 3. We’ll see, probably not though.

You never know though! Somewhere down the line, he might just want to do it. I'm still holding out for hope, but if it doesn't happen I'll be ok with it. Hell, I just want Tarantino to keep making great entertaining films!

Super Fun Sci-Fi Action Short - TEMPO

Here's an awesome sci-fi action short produced by Red Giant and directed by Seth Worley. The story follows a scientist who must prevent a new, powerful technology that he invented from falling into the wrong hands. The weapon can slow things down and speed things up.

The film is very entertaining and has a good mix of action and comedy. There's some really awesome moments in the film that are executed well. It's also got some fun cheesy moments. I really loved this short, it had a very cool style, and I think the concept could make for a really fun movie. Hope you enjoy it!

New HOBBIT Clip - Dwarves Sing the Misty Mountains Song

Want to listen to some dwarves sing? Warner Bros. has released yet another new film clip from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey featuring Thorin Oakenshield and the dwarves singing the "Misty Mountains" song as Bilbo listens in. We heard this song in the first trailer, but now you get to see how the scene plays out. It's really a beautifully shot scene, but the whole movie looks like it was beautifully shot! Three more days to go!

Bilbo Baggins is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

2012 Movie Supercut - Cinemageddon

I've been putting together my list of favorite films of 2012, and it's been a pretty incredible year of movies! There's been so many great movies, and it's going to be really hard to narrow it down to only ten. To celebrate this year's films Christopher Sherwood created another great 2012 movie supercut that he calls "Cinemageddon", and it's a great little edit. Here's a note that came along with the video.

I loved this year in movies. It was so explosive, so epic, so full of amazing moments, epic conclusions, love, tragedy... of course, all the things every good year in cinema has. But this year it was BIGGER. What a fitting end to the world. It's 2012, and the movies are going out with a BANG!

Check it out and let us know what one of your favorite movies was this year!

5 Film Clips for JACK REACHER

Paramount Pictures has released five new film clips for Tom Cruise's new action thriller Jack Reacher, which is looking like an entertaining movie. Jack Reacher is the start of some awesome looking big budget films that Cruise is involved with. Oblivion looks incredible, and he's also shooting another sci-fi action film called All You Need is Kill. The studio is hoping that Jack Reacher ends up being a big successful franchise. I think it has a shot, especially if it ends up being as badass as it looks.

Synopsis:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: "Get Jack Reacher!" So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

The movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun, writer of The Usual Suspects), and it also stars Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike, Jai Courtney and Werner Herzog as the villain. It will be released in theaters on December 21st, 2012.

STAR WARS Chewbacca Jacket from Marc Ecko

Marc Ecko has released an awesome new reversible jacket for his line of Star Wars clothing. As you can see this new one was inspired by Chewbacca, and it's the best quality Chewbacca coat that I've seen. I'd wear it around!

Celebrating the iconic characters and imagery of Star Wars, Marc Ecko Cut & Sew, in partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd., has launched limited edition hoodie and jacket collections inspired by the legendary film series. The collections pay respect to the legacy of Star Wars while re-imagining its innovative designs and style in new, fashionable ways.

Consider Chewy the inventor of the "furry fresh" look. This reversible choco-covered chewy coat couldn't be better for the winter. When the fur gets a little too loud for taste, flip it for an equally fresh, warm holiday hoodie.

You can purchase the Star Wars Choco Covered Chewy Coat by Marc Ecko in sizes Small – XL at ShopEcko.com for $200. To check out the other Marc Ecko Star Wars Jackets click here.

Johnny Depp Will Play a Supercomputer in TRANSCENDENCE

$

Back in October it was announced that Johnny Depp would star in a film called Transcendence. The film is being produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by his long time cinematographer Wally Pfister. There's been no details on what the film is about until now, and it sounds awesome!

According to The Wrap, Depp plays a scientist whose brain is uploaded into a supercomputer creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself. The plot was confirmed by the film's producer Andrew Kosove. He also confirmed that the heart of the story contains themes of singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.

The site explains that the story revolves around three scientists, Max and a husband and wife team, Will and Evelyn, who "have been developing a programming code for the world’s first fully self-aware computer." Here's a more detailed breakdown of the film,

A group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form.

She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well.

Will creates a backup of himself to every computer in the world, and furthers his work through accessing online indexes. (Kosove told TheWrap this plot point is no longer in the script.) When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.

That sounds like it's going to make a badass film, and now we know why Nolan and Depp have attached themselves to the project. The other two roles have not been cast but Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, and Kate Winslet have been approached but none of them were able to commit due to scheduling conflicts so the filmmakers are still on the hunt. We previously heard that Christian Bale was in the running for one of the characters, but there's no word on where that currently stands.

I'm excited for this movie, it's definitley a different role for Depp to take on. He's never played a supercomputer before so that should be interesting! I can't wait to see how this turns out! I bet it'll even turns out better than it sounds. What do you think of the concept?

Amazingly Cool Real Life Hobbit Pub Opens in New Zealand

I've never been to New Zealand but it's a place I've always wanted to visit and hopefully one day will. If that day ever comes I will take the Middle Earth tour and go hang out for awhile at this new Hobbit pub called The Green Dragon that just opened up!

The pub is located in the tourist village of Hobbiton, which is a town that's been around since 2002. Nearby is Matamata, which is where the Hobbit village was built for the Lord of the Rings films back in 1998. The addition of the pub just makes the town even more awesome! Hobbiton manager Russell Alexander said he estimates that the release of the film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will help bring in 100,000 visitors over the next 12 months.

As you will see in the photos the pub completely recreates everything that we love about Hobbiton and Middle Earth. WingNut Films art director and Green Dragon project manager Brian Massey oversaw the construction and detailed decoration.

Joel Edgerton to Star in Natalie Portman's JANE GOT A GUN

$

Warrior and The Thing star Joel Edgerton is in negotiations to join Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender in Jane Got A Gun. The movie is an action western being directed by Lynne Ramsey. We don't see a lot of good westerns these days. I want to see more classic western stories like Eastwood's Unforgiven or 3:10 to Yuma, and this sounds like it could be a good one.

Set in the Wild West, Jane (Portman) is married to an outlaw who returns home, badly shot up and left for dead by the fellow criminals he once trusted. Seeking vengeance, Jane enlists the help of a former lover to assist her in the ensuing fight to save her farm. Fassbender would take the role of the former lover, and Edgerton will play Jane's husband.

Edgerton has proved to be a solidly good actor, he will next be seen in the highly anticipated film Zero Dark Thirty, in which he plays the leader of a Navy SEAL team ordered to take down Osama Bin Laden. He also co-stars in The Great Gatsby adaptation.

Jane Got a Gun has a great cast and a solid sounding story, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Watch James Cameron's 1978 Sci-Fi Short XENOGENESIS

James Cameron's Xenogenesis served as a major inspiration in his creation of Avatar. Earlier today we posted a detailed breakdown of how everything Cameron has worked on in his life lead to his Avatar films. The filmmaker is currently in the middle of a lawsuit because someone claims that he stole their idea and turned it into Avatar. So Cameron wrote a detailed breakdown to prove that he's been working on developing this idea almost his whole life. It's a great read and you should check it out if you haven't already.

In the report he talks about his Xenogenesis story in great detail, and there are ideas and themes offered up in what we might see in the Avatar sequels. We've got something even better now to share with you! It's the actual short film that Cameron shot for the project back in 1978 to try and get funding. It starts off showing a lot of artwork that he did for the film then moves into the live-action part of it, all with really cheesy but cool special effects. You can totally see how this idea influenced a lot of his film career. Especially stuff that influenced The Terminator, Aliens and Avatar.

Here's a little breakdown of the story:

Xenogenesis is the saga of the voyage of Cosmos Kindred, a mile-long spaceship employing a fusion ramjet interstellar drive unit. In the face of destruction of the Earth, scientists engage in a last-ditch effort to preserve a nucleus of humanity by trying to find a new planet on which to live. Cosmos Kindred carries a cyber (artificial intelligence) that has cell samples, which, under the cyber’s direction, will be developed into cloned individuals once the spaceship finds a suitable new home planet.

The central section of the Xenogenesis story focuses on the human drama of the pilot dealing with a female stowaway who has been raised by the cyber. They experience exotic, danger-filled alien landscapes on different planets that I created, on which they see bizarre flora and fauna, and take samples.
