ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 4 - More Episodes Confirmed!

$

Back in August David Cross revealed that the fourth season of Arrested Development would most likely end up being 13 episodes instead of the 10 that was first announced. Deadline now confirms those plans!

According to Deadline sitcom creator Mitch Hurwitz "shot more material than planned and also came up with ideas for additional scenes and storylines." So 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV talked to Netflix about expanding the order to 12-15 episodes, and they were cool with it! That basically echos what Cross said a few months back,

I think it's going to be 13 episodes, not 10. There's too much story. Some characters will have two-parters. Everybody sort of participates, sometimes in a bigger way and sometimes in a tiny little thread that goes through everybody else's stories.

As a result production on the fourth season has been put on hold so that Hurwitz can go over the footage that's already been shot. He will take the time he needs to figure out the best way to incorporate the new arcs into the show. Once Hurwitz is ready to move forward the studio will start working on securing the actors that will be needed to finish it all up. A Netflix spokeswoman had this to say in a statement,

We are thrilled with the direction of the show, with the footage we have seen and with the relationship between Mitch, Imagine, 20th and Netflix. At this time, we are not confirming or announcing the final episode count but we are sure fans will be thrilled when we do.

Netflix is still planning to release Arrested Development season 4 in the spring of 2013, and all episodes will go live at the same time. As a big fan of the show, I can't wait to see these characters back on the screen together!

THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT Sequel - Poster and Synopsis

Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackoff stars in the new horror film titled The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. Thanks to IGN we have the first poster and synopsis to share with you!

A young family is tormented by the horrors of the past in The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia, a chilling new film based on a true story from the producers of The Haunting in Connecticut.

Building on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray, House of Wax) moves his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer, TV’s Mad Men) and daughter Heidi to an historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants. Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff, TV’s Battlestar Galactica), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire…a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.

Both of the stories that these two horror movies are based on were part of the Discovery series The Haunting, that focuses on real life ghost encounters. The pilot episode of the series actually inspired the first film, The Haunting in Connecticut.

The sequel will get a limited theatrical release and hit VOD on February 1st, 2013. I enjoyed the first film, and I'll be watching this one as well. Ah hell, I'll watch anything with Katee Sackhoff in it.

Pixar Releases 2 New MONSTERS UNIVERSITY Photos

Disney/Pixar has released two new photos from the highly anticipated CG animated film Monsters University, which is a prequel to Monsters Inc. The film gives us the background story of how these two monster characters met and became friends, because they weren't always friends. Director Dan Scanlon talked about the film and the characters in the film explaining the image above,

This is roughly around the time Mike and Sulley meet. They’re at a fraternity party, and this is Mike and Sulley getting off on the wrong foot a little bit.

It’s the monster equivalent of a farm animal. It is not a student. This is part of a college prank. Except Mike doesn’t want to play along, and he probably doesn’t bounce as good as Sulley thinks, either.

The image below shows Mike on his first day of college, bright eyed and excited for the future. Little does he know he's going to have a bit of a hard time. Producer Kori Rae adds,

We get to show off their differences. They both approach life in different ways. Mike is the go-getter type, anything is possible, and he’s the super-hard worker. Sulley is different because he’s a great scarer, he has this natural ability, but Mike has to work for it.

The characters resent each other at first, EW explains... "Mike because he envies Sulley, and Sulley because he doesn’t like this little guy hustling on his turf." It's going to be fun to see these two character back up on the big screen together and how they ended up becoming the great friends we saw in Monster Inc.

The film stars Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray and Peter Sohn. It's set to be released in theaters on June 21st, 2013.

Synopsis:

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

J.J. Abrams on STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Villain, John Harrison

It was recently revealed that the name of Benedict Cumberbatch's villain in Star Trek Into Darkness is John Harrison. We still don't know that much about him, but in a recent interview with MTV director J.J. Abrams talked about the character's attributes, calling him "frightening and cool," and what makes him a good villain. When asked about the character here's what Abrams had to say,

Rather than answer anything that would give away anything fun from the movie… the character that Benedict plays... he brings such an incredible power. His voice alone is unbelievable. He brings a force to it that when I think you see the movie hopefully this character, all speculation aside, will be really compelling. Not because of any connection to anything past, but because of who he is and what he brings to it.

Not just his backstory, but his agenda, his plan, his secret… all of that is what I think makes him such a frightening and cool villain. But also, you know, a real villain that are not just two dimensional angry vengeful types don't see themselves as the bad guy. They are the good guy, they've got complete rational and motivation. So I think true to form, the character Benedict plays has an absolute sense of right and wrong, and he's certainly on the right side.

The director talks more about the film in general which you can watch in the interview embedded below. To me it looks like Cumberbatch's villain is a mix of several different characters that we've seen in the Star Trek series. Abrams isn't really giving anything away though, so we'll just have to wait and see. All I know is that I have no doubt that Cumberbatch is going to be amazing in the part!

Do you have any theories on Star Trek's new villain?

Michael Shannon to Star in a Horror film called THE HARVEST

Michael Shannon is one of my favorite actors working today, and he's set to star in a psychological horror thriller called The Harvest. He will star alongside Samantha Morton (John Carter, Minority Report) in the film that is being directed by Wild Things director John McNaughton. This will actually be McNaughton's first film project in 11 years!

Morton and Shannon will play a married couple in the movie with "medical backgrounds and a sick son (Charlie Tahan) who lives secluded in a controlled environment until a young girl (Natasha Calis) moves in next door and gives him hope of a better life. As the teens grow closer, the tight-knit world his over-protective mother has created begins to unravel."

There's still a lot left to the imagination but it sounds like it could be solid horror flick. The fact that Shannon is on board to star in it says a lot. McNaughton, who started his career directing the film Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, had this to say in a statement,

This is the first horror script I've been interested in in 25 years, so it's kind of cool to return to the genre. I got the script a few years ago and loved the story, which is dark and has a great twist. It's like a cross between 'Hansel and Gretel' and 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Shannon is an incredible actor and very intense in everything he does. He won an Oscar for his role in Revolutionary Road, should have won an Oscar for the character he played in Take Shelter, has a great role in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and will be seen in the upcoming films Man of Steel and the hitman drama The Iceman.

theMulticast: How We Would Fix the Video Game Awards

The VGAs happened. And they were as boring and pandering as expected. Basher and Snaps suffered through the presentation and tear it down, limb by limb. We did not like the VGAs, we never do. With good reason. Take a listen to the reasons and the ways we would fix it.

Get ready for another crippling hour of cynicism from the dark corner of gaming you know as theMulticast. One more show next week that covers the trailers and our impressions. After that, it is a break until January. Which is Basher's birthday so feel free to buy him stuff. Or drive by and take away his PS VITA currently being used to keep a table leveled.

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Trailer with Cool New Footage!

I'm really hoping that director Jon Chu and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were able to pull off a hell of a fun G.I. Joe film! As you know the movie was supposed to be released this past summer but a month before it was supposed to be released they pulled it from the schedule so they could do a bunch of reshoots and convert it for 3D. One of the things they decided to do was add more Channing Tatum because he's blowing up right now as an actor. I really like what I see, so here's to hoping the movie is better than the first one.

Paramount has released this new trailer, which contains a lot of the stuff we've already seen but also includes more Channing Tatum, action scenes, and shows off some cool G.I. Joe and Cobra vehicles! The movie also stars  Bruce WillisDwayne Johnson, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA and Ray Stevenson.

Synopsis:

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation arrives on March 29th, 2013.

Check out this incredibly awesome Mondo poster art for The Lord of the Rings trilogy! It was created by artist Olly Moss. Like many of you, I'm a fan of Moss' work, I love the LOTR trilogy, and this poster design is really cool. So... I'm going to make an effort to get myself one, of course every time I try to get a Mondo poster that I really want, I'm always too late.

Earlier this year, Mondo announced they secured the rights to The Lord of the Rings so they could create and sell art for it, so this is just the first of much more LOTR art to come!

The poster is a 15″ x 36″ screen print, and includes a regular green edition of 580 prints for $50 and a variant orange edition of 285 prints for $90. They go on sale Thursday, December 13th at a random time at @MondoNews.

Barbara Hershey Set to Reprise Her Role in INSIDIOUS 2

Barbara Hershey is set to reprise her role as Lorraine Lambert in James Wan's Insidious Chapter 2. Lambert played the mother of Patrick Wilson’s character Josh Lambert. Wilson is set to return to reprise his role as well along with Rose Byrne who plays his wife.

The first movie was such a great horror film, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next! The movie heads into production in Los Angeles in early 2013 and FilmDistrict is looking to release it in theaters on August 30th, 2013.

The fact that Wan is coming back to direct it tells me he's got another great part of the story to tell. I believe this is the first sequel that he's directed, because he didn't direct any of the Saw sequels.

Square Enix's Countdown Reveals STAR GALAXY

Well, everyone's been anticipating what Square Enix would reveal at the end of their countdown this evening, and lo and behold it's STAR GALAXY!

C'mon guys, say it with me! STAR GALAXY!

(crickets.......)

Okay, so a bit of a letdown. However, for those who are still reading here is some background. The game looks to be a browser based space strategy game, and from what I can tell due to the rough translation, it features some exploration as well as some kind of card game mechanic. Yeah, that's about it, but you can always peep the promotional video for some additional insight.

Wait, the video actually doesn't feature anything butt he same image that you see above? Oh, and some Star Wars like music to accompany it. Awesome.

In all seriousness, I am a bit disappointed, but only because when I saw the name Star Galaxy, I thought it was somehow related to Rogue Galaxy (PS2), but then I remembered it wasn't Square who made that title but Level 5, so double whammy for me. As for what it actually is, I do enjoy some browser games, as long as they don't make my computer chug to a halt. I like doing other things and occasionally checking in on a mission's progress, so here's hoping they can make the gameplay compelling.

Either way, it's not Final Fantasy VII or Kingdom Hearts 3, so I'm pretty sure they weren't going to make anyone happy in the end.

3 Clips from the DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special - The Snowmen

We've got 13 more days to go before Doctor Who's Christmas special, "The Snowmen," premieres! To tide you over until then we've got a new promo trailer that features a voice-over by Sir Ian McKellen, and it shows off the terrifying Snowmen. There's also two short clips featuring The Snowmen, The Doctor's brand-new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and the TARDIS doing its thing. According to the guy in the first clip, this is the best Doctor Who episode ever!

The episode is set to air on Christmas Day. The Doctor will also cross paths with the homo-reptilian Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and her associate Jenny (Catrin Stewart). It was written by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock), and it looks fantastic!

Christmas Eve 1892 and the falling snow is the stuff of fairy-tales. When the fairy-tale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, calls on the Doctor for help. But the Doctor is in mourning, reclusive and determined not to engage in the problems of the universe. As old friends return, will the Doctor really abandon humankind or will he fight to save the world – and Christmas – from the icy clutches of this mysterious menace.

Peter Jackson Plans To Release TINTIN Sequel In 2015!

I really enjoyed Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin, but I wasn't sure if we would ever see any of the sequels they were talking about. There have been no solid updates on a sequel to the film for awhile. The movie made over $370 million worldwide, which it is more than I thought it would make, especially since not a lot of people were familiar with Tintin. Now that they've been introduced to the character and have seen how great the movie was, I think a sequel could be even more successful.

Bleeding Cool caught up with Jackson while he was promoting The Hobbit, and they asked him about the status of The Adventures of Tintin sequel. Jackson said the "plan is to ‘shoot’ the performance capture at some point next year for a 2015 release date." This would be going on at the same time as some of the post-production work he'll be doing for the other Hobbit films, so Jackson is going to be an extremely busy guy. But if he pulls this off, Jackson will have released one film a year four years in a row.

The sequel will be called The Adventures Of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun, the script for which was written by Anthony Horowitz, creator of the Alex Rider series of young-adult spy novels. The plot of the film involves Tintin and his BFF Captain Haddock investigating a strange illness that has befallen seven explorers who have discovered an Incan tomb, before traveling to Peru to get to the bottom of the mystery. I imagine the full cast will come back to reprise their roles.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's THE LAST STAND New TV Trailer

A new one minute long TV spot has been released for Kim Jee-Woon's action-packed film The Last Stand. Arnold Schwarzenegger looks like a badass in this film, and I'm excited to see him once again go ballistic on some bad guys. The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman, Peter Stormare, and Genesis Rodriguez. It's set to hit theaters January 18th, 2013, and it looks like one hell of fun flick!

Here's the synopsis:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.  Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

Chun-Li and Tifa Fight it Out in This Live Action Duel

WORLDS ARE COLLIDING! Thanks to the weirdness of the internet, real people can dress up like their favorite female characters and fight it out for the viewing pleasure of all geeks. I find it interesting that Chun-Li of Street Fighter was chosen to duel with Tifa from Final Fantasy 7. Both are martial arts fighters, but they seem worlds apart because of the different universes.

The cool thing about this video is that you get to vote who wins in the end. Just watch the fight through and choose who you think should win when given the options at the end. I think it's pretty fun, personally, to get viewers involved with something like this.

But please, we all know that Chun-Li will win.

THE WALKING DEAD Won't Show Any More Outbreak Flashbacks

TVGuide spoke to Walking Dead creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman about the possibility of learning about what actually went down during the early days of the outbreak. So far audiences have seen very few flashbacks, and it looks like it will continue that way when the show returns Sunday, Feb. 10.

Here is what Kirkman had to say:

I don't find that to be interesting at all. In zombie fiction, you see the outbreak, you see the first days and the craziness in almost every other story told in this realm. I'm very proud of the fact that, for the most part, The Walking Dead has skipped over that part.

Kirkman goes on to say that if you are curious to see how an outbreak happens to:

Go watch Zach Snyder's Dawn of the Dead movie to see the early days of this, or Shaun of the Dead does it really well.

That is fine with me. I am excited to see the show return in February!

Artist Denis Medri has created some more amazingly cool art for his vision of Rockabilly Batman, showing off some fun scenes with several of the characters from the Batman universe! He's created such an incredibly fun style with this, and it needs to be turned into some kind of series or at least a short film. Maybe he should set up a Kickstarter campaign for something because I bet he could get the funding to do this as an animated or live action short. Here's the synopsis:

It's hard to see Christohpher Nolan's The Dark Knight as a romantic comedy, but matincomedy created a fun recut trailer for the epic Batman film showing us what that would look like. Bruce Wayne is caught in the middle of an uncomfortable situation where he must take on his best friend Harvey Dent and the hilarious Joker to win Rachel's heart.

Nolan Keeps Joseph Gordon-Levitt's MAN OF STEEL Rumor Alive

Why doesn't Christopher Nolan just flat out deny that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going to appear in Man of Steel? Last month a rumor hit the internet that the actor would be reprising his role as the new Batman in Man of Steel and Justice League. That rumor was quickly shot down by Gordon-Levitt's rep. But then Movieline caught up with Nolan recently and asked him about a possibility of a Batman cameo in Man of Steel, and Nolan responded with the following,

I can't talk about that. You know that.

If there was nothing going on he could easily just say no. The fact that he isn't denying tells us one of two things... there really is something to this rumor, or he's just having fun with the fans. In the past when Nolan has acted coy about questions like this--the rumors for films like The Dark Knight Rises ended up having some truth to them. Why do you think Nolan didn't deny it? He could have just shut the rumor down, but by saying nothing at all, he's once again sparked a flame.
