16 New Photos From BATES MOTEL

0
0

A&E has released over a dozen photos from their new TV series Bates Motel, which I really hope ends up being a great show. It's based on Alfred Hitchock's Psycho and it has a great cast that includes Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother Norma Bates, as well as Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell, Mike Vogel, Olivia Cooke and Max Thieriot.

The show will give us the origin story of Bates’ dark, twisted past, from childhood through his teen years. It will chronicle how his mother, Norma, and her lover screwed Norman up, shaping him into the insane serial killer that he became.

Showrunners Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights) say the series won't be limited just to what occurs in the rooms (and showers) of the motel. ''The town itself is very much a character in the show,'' Cuse says. ''There are a lot of secrets that lurk beneath this bucolic veneer.'' So maybe the Bateses aren't the only ones harboring some unhealthy psychological issues?

The series is set to premiere in 2013, and I'm looking forward to it!

Shawn Levy to Produce Sci-Fi Thriller STORY OF YOUR LIFE

0

Real Steel director Shawn Levy is set to produce a new sci-fi thriller with FilmNation Entertainment called Story of Your Life. The script for the film comes from Eric Heisserer (The Thing, A Nightmare on Elm Street) and it will be directed by commercial director Nic Mathieu

The movie is based on an award-winning short story by Ted Chiang and it's described as "a mind-bending science fiction thriller with a powerful, emotional twist. After aliens land around the globe, a linguist is recruited by the US government in a race to decipher their intentions on Earth."

FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder had this to say in a statement,

When you look at Ted Chiang's powerful source material, how deftly Eric and the team at 21 Laps handled the adaptation, and what Nic's vision brings to the film, it's no surprise that there's been so much competitive interest. We're looking forward to working with Shawn and Dan and couldn't wish for better partners than Lava Bear.

Producer David Linde added,

This is an incredibly dynamic and contemporary script. There is nothing else like it. We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with such a wonderful creative team, as well as our friends at FilmNation.

The project is being put on the fast-track and they will start casting the film immediately. The plan is to start shooting in 2013. Lets hope it turns out good! It sure sounds like an interesting story that has potential to be a solidly good film.

The Next X-FILES Movie Could Involve the Alien Colonization Climax

0
0

I would absolutely love to see a third X-Files film, and I'm pretty sure one day it will happen. The last thing we heard on the movie was from Gillian Anderson who said, "I met with [series creator Chris Carter]... and it's looking pretty good." David Duchvony even expressed his desire to step back into the shoes of Fox Mulder. When it does happen there's a possibility that it could wrap up the story.

In an interview with Den of Geek, X-Files producer Frank Spotnitz talked about another film saying he would love to get the gang back together for another film. If it turns out to be the the last film in the franchise, he and creator Chris Carter already knows what story it would be,

I mean I've known for many years what I would like the movie to be and I've been talking to Chris Carter about it for many years, but there is no script ... It's the climax of the alien colonization story that began the series.

That is the movie we all want to see! It's not like i want to see one last film, but maybe an epic trilogy to wrap it all up!? I think the fanbase is strong enough for something like this to happen. They just need to give them what they want, and there's a way to awesomely pull it off! 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe didn't help the franchise much, but I still believe there is life in it! One bad egg shouldn't spoil the incredible franchise!

Now, how would you feel about the series being rebooted as a new TV series with a couple new younger agents? There's currently no plans for this, but Spotnitz wouldn't be surprised if it happened and frankly, neither would I.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I mean, I don't think I would have anything to do with it but you know, for better or for worse, these things are titles of big corporations , like Star Trek belongs to Paramount and The X-Files belongs to Twentieth Century Fox and it's a huge asset in their libraries so I can't imagine they would let it sit languishing forever.

Anything could happen. I just hope that if they do it, they do it well, that's my only request.

That would be any fan's request. Hell, if they do it, they might as well just bring back Anderson and Duchvony. I could see another series being a pretty solid hit with audiences. Sci-fi, fantasy and horror TV series are bigger now than they ever were, and the original X-Files series helped set the stage for them.

I'm a huge fan of this franchise, and I would love to see it continue as a film or TV series. I so badly want to see what happens next in the universe of Mulder and Scully. I would love to see the climax of the alien colonization! From previous interviews and statements, it sounds like the wheels are in motion to make something happen. Hopefully it happens soon though.

Joe Carnahan to Direct Vampire Film Adaptation of UNDYING LOVE

0

A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan is attached to write and direct the big screen adaptation of the vampire comic book Undying Love for Warner Bros. The comic was published in 2011 and created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also previously wrote a draft of the script when Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja was attached to direct the movie. Obviously he was never able to move it into production. I think Carnahan is a better director anyway, and I think this will be a great project for him to work on. It's definitely different from anything he's worked on before.

The story is "a horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, set in modern day Hong Kong. Ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: Mei's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. The only problem: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history..." The poor dude picked the wrong girl to fall in love with. I guess we all do at some point in our lives.

Carnahan gave a little statement explaining why he took on the project saying, “I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas. It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay, but there is a lot of potential here.”

There's definitley a lot of potential for this project, and I think he has what it takes to make this a really fun, entertaining and cool movie. Carnahan hasn't locked down his next film project yet, but he's also attached to write and direct Mark Millar's Nemesis.

STAR WARS Writers Kasdan and Kinberg to Develop Spin-Off Films?

0
0

When Disney hired Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) to write a couple of new Star Wars movies, almost everyone assumed it would be episodes 8 and 9, even though it was never really specified in the report. So I figured since Disney planned on making two to three Star Wars movies a year, that these could easily end up being spin-off projects that would focus other pieces of the epic universe. It looks like that's exactly what is going down.

THR is reporting that the two writers will be working on separate Star Wars projects, and they won't be Episodes 8 or 9. They will be expanding the universe. "Their scripts could turn into official “Episodes” in the main Skywalker storyline, or they could form the basis for spinoffs focusing on side characters."

Of course Lucasfilm won't confirm or deny any of this but it makes sense to have a couple of solid writers working on expanding the universe, especially since it's all part of the plan. I just can't wait to see what these spin-off movie turn out to be. To see what characters they will follow, and what stories they will tell! It's an exciting time to be a movie geek and a Star Wars fan!

Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) has already written a lengthy treatment for the new trilogy and he's now writing the script for Star Wars: Episode VII.

I always thought the bounty hunters were awesome. What characters would you like to see get their own films?

Colin Trevorrow to Take on FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR

0
0

Remember when Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow said this...

I can’t speak with any specificity as to what the next thing will be. There are amazing opportunities that have arisen as a result of this. One of them, I will say, will probably create a good deal of ire against me on the Internet when people find out what it is. So, I just want to say in advance that I promise you, for all those who love the mythology that I will be tackling, trust that I love it as much as you do. And I will respect it, and hopefully make it not suck.

And we all thought he was talking about Star Wars: Episode VII? Well, it turns out that he will not be directing Star Wars, and the movie he was talking about was Disney's remake of Flight of the Navigator. He's been hired along with Derek Connolly to re-write the script for the film, and it is being developed as a potential directing vehicle for Trevorrow.

This was one of my favorite sci-fi films as a kid growing up in the 80's, but it's been a hell of a long time since I've seen it. The story follows a 12 year old boy who gets abducted by an alien space craft. He ends up traveling eight years into the future from 1978 to 1986. The only problem is he can't remember what happened. NASA enters the picture and tries to exploit the poor kid. Maybe it's time I watch this one with my kids, and see what they think about it.

This seems like a project that Trevorrow is better suited for, and who knows, maybe this is just a warm up to get him into the director's chair of one of the future Star Wars movies. Trevorrow is a talented director who obviously loves the story, and I think he'll do a solid job bringing it to life again on the big screen. Are you a big fan of the original film, and are you happy to see Trevorrow developing the remake?

Cate Blanchett to Play Evil Stepmother in CINDERELLA

0
0

Disney is currently in the process of developing a live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale story of Cinderella, and they are looking to cast Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother. The Oscar winning actress seems like a perfect fit for the role! She's currently in "deep talks" with Disney, and if she takes it she will take on the role of Lady Tremaine.

Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) is attached to direct the movie from a script written by Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes). Disney paid over a million bucks for the pitch from The Devil Wears Prada scribe Aline Brosh McKenna

Blanchett is an awesome actress that could easily pull off a role like this. She would be the first actor to join the project, and it will be interesting to see who else ends up jumping on board the project. The actress will next be seen in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

THE LEGEND OF DIGITAL ZELDA - Link Comes to Life in This Amazing Video

0
0

Only one word can describe this video: Amazing!

Final Cut King is back at it again, making fantastic videos for us to enjoy. If you’re not familiar with the guy, well… his name says it all. He does some quite impressive work using Final Cut video editing software, and seems to bring things to life that we could only imagine in our heads.

This time he has taken on one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda. Link comes to life off of the paper and seamlessly hops into the computer and tablet screens to go off on his adventure.

I think the most impressive part of this, which you will see at the very end of the video, is that he did all of this in one take. That’s right, ONE TAKE! Now of course he had some help from other people to get the synchronization correct, but still that’s quite a feat.

First Intense Clip for ZERO DARK THIRTY - Subverting the Efforts

Here's our first clip from Zero Dark Thirty which features a very intense and heated exchange between Jessica Chastain and Kyle Chandler about going after the real terrorist threat... Osama Bin Laden. People who have seen the film say that Chastain's performance is Oscar worthy, and this clip does a great job of proving that to us. She definitely puts Chandler in is place.

For a decade, an elite team of intelligence and military operatives, working in secret across the globe, devoted themselves to a single goal: to find and eliminate Osama bin Laden.

The movie also stars Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Ehle, Mark Strong, Edgar Ramirez and more. It will be released in theaters on December 19th, and it simply looks and sounds like it's going to be a great movie! Check out the clip!

PACIFIC RIM Viral Marketing Has Begun Including a Trailer Countdown

0
0

Warner Bros. has launched a viral marketing campaign for Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated giant robots versus giant monster movie Pacific Rim! Apparently this is in anticipation of the first trailer for the movie which will be released next month!

What we have here is a memo from Great Britain Air Command looking to recruit pilots for their massive Jaeger robots so they can battle against the monstrous Kaiju, who have become a menace. There's also video featuring a Kaiju Emergency Alert System, and a link to Pan Pacific Defense Corps where there is a trailer countdown and eerie sounds.

I can't wait for you to see the trailer for this movie! I have a feeling it's going to blow your mind. The stuff shown at Comic-Con was pretty epic, and I imagine the trailer will show even more awesomeness now that the movie is further along in production.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

The movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day. It's set to be released in 3D on July 12th, 2013.

New Poster for Chan-wook Park's STOKER

0

Here's a great looking new international poster for director Chan-wook Park's first English language film Stoker. I'm a fan of Park's previous work, and this looks like it's going to be very twisted and very disturbing. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

The movie was written by Prison Break's Wentworth Miller, and it includes a fantastic cast of actors that include Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney, Jacki Weaver, Alden Ehrenreich and Lucas Till

Synopsis:

After India's (Wasikowska's) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

The movie will be released on March 1st, 2013. You can check out the trailer for the movie below. I imagine the movie will be even darker than the trailer makes it look.

Hi all! My name is Matt, aka KnightofOA, and by now you've probably seen a few of my articles for GameTyrant (not saying you read them, just that you've seen them lol). In addition to those, me and my co-host J.Dot Sloan (of Vanity Games) will be bringing you Gaming Disassembled, a weekly podcast about the latest topics and issues in the world of video games.

This week we talk about a recent hot button issue of the industry in why games with female protagonists aren't more prevalent, and when they do show up they don't seem to have the numbers of their male centered counterparts. We also go over a great list of the top 10 worst plot devices in RPG's, as well as our Thanksgiving gaming.

Make sure to stick around for the art & swag spotlight (known as the "Colartibles") as well as our sounding off segment! Enjoy the show, and if you have any feedback make sure to let us know!

Zombie TV Commercial So Awesome It Was Banned

Apparently the people of Norway don't really care for zombies. The commercial was done for XXL and the people of Norway just couldn't handle the awesomeness of it so it was banned. It's a shame because this is one hell of an entertaining commercial!

So why did it get banned? Because the TV spot aired during family programming and they didn't really think it was appropriate for their kids. Apparently, it airs after 9pm now.

What starts out as just a nice regular day, quickly turns into a crazy zombie apocalypse, and the people fight back using their sports talents. There's a lot of great stuff packed into this thing, and some really fun ideas. I know you'll all enjoy it!

Here's another piece of awesomeness from the viral campaign behind Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim! It's the blueprint for the badass Kaiju-Fighting Giant Robot known as a Jaeger. This particular model is called the Gipsy Danger. These are the weapons that will be used to fight off the giant monsters who threaten to invade and destroy the world.

The diagram comes from the Pan Pacific Defense Corps! So for those of you looking to build your own, this shows you everything you need to know! The trailer will be released next month, and you'll get your first look at these massive robots in action!

DOOM ADVENTURE TIME - The Land of Ooo Faces Demons in This Mashup

There are many people, both young and old, that seem to love Adventure Time. So it’s a no-brainer that someone would eventfully try to mash it up with one of gaming’s most iconic games, Doom. Well artist, Cheese Demon (yea… crazy name, right?), has given us a glimpse of what the Land of Ooo would look like in the Doom universe.

If you take a closer look at the mashup and the original box art, you will see that Cheese Demon pretty much matched every single aspect of the original, with the Adventure Time spin on things. It’s truly a great piece of work, and quite funny.

Funny Red-Band TV Spot for MOVIE 43

0
0

Relativity Media has released a funny new red-band TV spot for the comedy anthology Movie 43, which was developed by a ton of high profile actors and directors. I'm seriously impressed by the list of people involved with this movie, and it looks like it's going to be packed full of some very fun and vulgar shorts.

From the twisted minds of producers Peter Farrelly (Hall Pass, Shallow Hal) and Charles Wessler (There's Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber), comes Movie 43-- the outrageous new ensemble comedy starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Movie 43 is not for the easily-offended and contains jaw-dropping, sometimes shockingly disturbing, but always entertaining intertwined storylines you'll have to see to believe.

The movie will be released on January 25th, 2013, and I'm looking forward to it!

The ridiculous all-star cast includes Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Jason Sudeikis, Anna Ferris, Kieran Culkin, Halle Berry, Kate Bosworth, Gerard Butler, Josh Duhamel, Chris Pratt, Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Kristen Bell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Chloe Moretz, Leslie Bibb, Patrick Warburton, Tony Shalhoub, Jack McBrayer, Aasif Mandvi, Bobby Cannavale, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts and Uma Thurman.

And here are the directors that were involved with the project. Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Brett Ratner.

The Little Mermaid Reimagined as Swamp Thing

This fun mashup illustration kind of cracked me up. It's called "The Little Swamp Thing", and it's a combination of The Little Mermaid and Swamp Thing. Not sure what prompted artist Rosy Higgins to create this character design, but I thought is was awesome enough to share with you.
