The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Will Be Even Bigger A-holes in VOL. 2

0
0

We are getting slammed with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 news this week, and it makes me so happy until I look at a calendar and realize we are still three months away from its release, I can’t take the anticipation! However, if you are a calmer, more centered person than I am, you might want to read what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Comic Book about where Peter Quill and the gang’s heads are at in the sequel.

"It doesn’t take much to make Peter Quill more of an asshole. Yes, there’s a pompousness. They’ve all grown a bit more pompous and you know, the garage band that then gets multi-platinum album, and have egos to go along with that, is certainly the case, which is true for all of them frankly. Not Drax as much, but all of them, particularly Quill."

I don’t know why, but “not Drax as much” kills me. But yes, it’s not hard to see how a man who tries to make people call him Star-Lord could be seen as a bit of a pompous ass, even if he is an extremely lovable pompous ass. But don’t worry, it’s not like the whole movie is going to just be us watching our heroes turn into villains. The group of misfits still have hearts. Feige said:

“They are really and truly a family, and you’ll hear James talk about that a lot, and one of the things I think makes James so special as a writer/director, and you saw it in the first movie, and it’s even more so in this film, is for as fun as it is, for outrageous as it is, characters named Taserface, baby Groot, killing people and throwing them around, it is very, very emotional, and not cynical in the least. It is very, very truthful and sort of unabashedly so, in its emotions. And it’s a very special combination, that I think James is perfect for, and that’s sort of the crux of this whole movie."

That special family includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Yondu (Michael Rooker). The James Gunn-directed sequel hits theaters on May 5, 2017, which is my friend Olivia’s 33rd birthday. Happy birthday, Olivia.

DOCTOR STRANGE Deleted Scene Shows Kaecilius and His Followers Being Marked by Dormammu

We can argue about its placement in the overall pantheon of superhero movies, but I think most people agreed that Doctor Strange ended up being one of the most enjoyable movies in the recent entries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is about to hit home video, so we're probably going to start seeing a small trickle of bonus features make their way online, and first out of the gate is a deleted scene (via EW) that features the baddie Kaecilius and his crew being marked by Dormammu, the master of the Dark Dimension. I can see why they cut it, but it's almost always a good thing to see more footage of Mads Mikkelsen in action, so I'm glad this scene made its way onto the home video release.

Kevin Feige Discusses GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's Influence on THOR: RAGNAROK and Says It Goes Beyond the Nine Realms

For anyone excited about Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked more about the film. He discusses the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 carrying over to the film, how much of the story takes place on Earth, and teases that the story will go beyond the nine realms, which is exciting to hear!

During an interview with ScreenRant, Feige was asked about how we might see the side of the Guardians franchise expand in future MCU film and when answering the question, Feige used the new Thor film as an example of carrying that tone over. He also teased some of the things we can expect to see from the movie film:

"I don’t know about branching off from this, but certainly inhabiting similar areas from this. A lot of our upcoming movies will. I mean the upcoming movies will be as much up here, as they are on Earth, starting with not Spider-Man, starting with Thor: Ragnarok. There are three scenes on Earth in Thor: Ragnarok. Everything else is Asgard, and not all of these worlds, but world that certainly, let’s put it this way, in Thor lingo, it’s beyond the nine realms. There are other planets that we spend a lot of time on in Thor: Ragnarok, that certainly people would say, ‘oh, that’s sort of like the Guardians world’, but they’re just other areas of the Marvel cosmos universe."

We know that one of those planets will include Planet Hulk's Sakaar where Thor and Hulk will fight in gladiator matches. There's also no doubt that film will also spend some time in Hel, which is where Cate Blanchette's Hela dwells. In the film, we'll see Hela attempt to bring the hardcore apocalypse Ragnarok down on Asgard. Thor and Hulk will embark on a journey to stop it. While on their adventure, it sounds like they may be stopping off at a few other different planets in the Marvel cosmos.

These thoughts are in line with what Chris Hemsworth was talking about back in 2015 when he said that Thor: Ragnarok needed to have some Guardians of the Galaxy-style humor.

"I think it needs to be injected with that sort of smart wit and unexpected kind of humor, kind of what James Gunn came in and did with Guardians [Of The Galaxy]. It was like off center and unpredictable and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know.  We’ve done regal. We’ve done Shakespeare, and we’ve shown that. I think now it’s time to go, ‘Ok, cool. Let’s try something different,’ and Taika just had such a brilliant sort of take and funny kind of ideas about where we could, how we could do that."

Sounds like Hemsworth got what he was looking for! Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3, 2017.

marvel-unleashes-a-kickass-new-trailer-for-iron-fist

Marvel has released a new trailer for their upcoming Netflix series Iron Fist, and it's awesome! I love the martial arts aspect of this character, and we get to see Danny Rand kick some ass in this trailer! If you were on the fence about this series before, then this is the trailer that will get you pumped up to see it! Iron Fist looks like it's going to be an absolute blast. Oh yeah, the trailer also shows Rand harnessing the power of the Iron Fist!

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

The series also stars Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Rosario Dawson. Marvel's Iron Fist premieres March 17, 2017 exclusively on Netflix.

First Official Photo from PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING Released by John Boyega

A few weeks ago we saw some Pacific Rim: Uprising set photos featuring John Boyega all decked out in his Jaeger pilot gear. The actor has now released the first official photo from the film showing himself a very dark and moody atmosphere. The photo came with the caption, "I am Pentecost 2018 #PacificRimUprising," which confirms he is, in fact, playing the son of Idris Elba's character, Stacker Pentecost, from the first film. I also included some previously released concept art from the film that shows off Gypsy Danger. The first movie was a blast to watch and I'm excited to see how this sequel turns out. I can't help but think director Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) is going to give fans another awesome movie.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is being produced by Guillermo del Toro, and it also stars Scott Eastwood, Karl Urban, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman. The movie is set to open in theaters on February 23, 2018.

THE FLASH, SUPERGIRL, GOTHAM, and More Get Bricked Out to Promote THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE

This is super inside baseball, but bear with me for a second. The Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, California is normally adorned with giant billboards promoting the various TV shows that film on the soundstages inside its gates. I was driving past the studio the other day and noticed that all of those billboards had been mysteriously covered with black tarps. I've been driving by there for years and have never seen all of them covered at once like that. I knew something was up, but I couldn't quite figure out what — until a press release from the studio spilled the beans. Billboards for shows like The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Gotham, The Big Bang Theory, and more have all been replaced with new LEGO-fied versions as part of the studio's promo campaign for The LEGO Batman Movie. And these images aren't just limited to the walls of WB itself — they're going worldwide.

“Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batman.” To honor the arrival of the DC Super Hero’s epic animated feature film on February 10, Warner Bros. Television’s heroes, fanboys and fangirls have undergone their own LEGO transformation which can be seen everywhere — from the Studios’ iconic exterior billboards to specially created end-cards.

Apparently, it took 10,000 LEGO bricks to create the billboards and the practical sets took more than 300 hours to build. Take a look at all of the images below, and we'll keep our fingers crossed that a couple of these characters might actually show up in the movie:

Possible Story Ideas for UNBREAKABLE 2 Revealed by M. Night Shyamalan

0
0

We know that M. Night Shyamalan has been developing a sequel for Unbreakable 2 for years, and it looks like it's finally going to happen! During a recent interview on the HappySadConfused podcast, the director talks about the possible direction he could take the story.

While talking about it, he also reveals spoiler aspects of his new film Split, so there are some spoilers.

If you've seen Split, then you know the film connects to Unbreakable and that it awesomely sets up a direct sequel to that film. Shyamalan tweeted a recent update saying he's got an 11 page outline for the film so far. Then in an interview, he goes into a little more detail about what he's thinking in regards of the story.

Here's a possible idea that he could use for the film:

"My thought bubble would be—again don’t hold me to this—but Elijah never got out of the institution. He was just a guy who believed this, but David doesn’t quite 100% believe it that way, he just thinks that he is particularly meant to do this and is kind of faded a little bit. Like this idea of comic books that Elijah was saying the comic book world is based on reality, that it’s real—there’s no other evidence for this. It’s this crazy guy who has this bone disorder who’s in an insane asylum. But then [the news story at the end of Split] comes up and he’s like, ‘Oh my God, he’s right.’"

That's definitely an interesting direction to take it. After 16 years, Bruce Willis' David Dunn still hasn't fully embraced his powers and his destiny? That would definitely be the unique and unexpected direction, which is what Shyamalan likes to do with his stories. He goes on to talk about how he wants his next sequel to be like a standalone film. He explains:

"All I can say is this: If Unbreakable was about a guy who is the only person who survives a train wreck, everyone dies and he doesn’t have a scratch on him. How is that possible? That’s a high concept, really cool story. And then this one is three girls get abducted by a person that has this disorder that he believes he’s many people, and all of the different personalities are saying there’s another personality coming to get them, it’s called The Beast. That in and of itself is a really cool thing. This third movie needs to have its own idea. The high concept of that final movie can’t be, ‘It’s the final Unbreakable.’ There has to be something about that that makes it its own movie… That’s when I’ll be happiest, is when it’s its own movie. In a way it could be watched by itself."

That sounds like it would be hard to pull off given the fact that there are two previous films with characters that will all appear in the film, and they all have important backstories. It would be really interesting to see how he will make this next sequel a standalone movie.

The filmmaker then goes on to reveal that he had a completely different ending planned for Split that was fully animated but it was eventually cut:

"There was another version of the credit sequence which was comic book, which was graphic images of The Beast and then David Dunn and then Elijah and then them all mixing together. When I saw it done I was like, ‘This is a fucking home run,’ and then when I put it on the movie it didn’t work… It’s one thing to say, ‘You saw an origin story,’ but to go into other characters…David Dunn is reacting to the news of The Horde. End of story. If you keep going it starts to undermine the movie you just saw."

I'd like to see that! Hopefully, they include it on the special features of the Blu-ray/DVD. Split is my favorite M. Night film since Unbreakable, and I'm so happy and excited that we are going to see these stories continue in at least one more film!

Galactic Empire's STAR WARS Metal Album Has Arrived

0

A lot happened this weekend including the drop of a Stranger Things season two teaser and a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser! That's why it wouldn't shock me if this little bit of news flew under your radar: Galactic Empire has released a full-length album. For those who don’t know Galactic Empire, they are a Star Wars metal band. They play instrumental metal versions of Star Wars songs while cosplaying as iconic characters including Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

This full-length album is fantastic if you like rock or metal and/or Star Wars (two of my favorite things). Some of my favorites were "Duel of Fates" and "The Force Theme." Maybe on their sophomore album they can include that classic hit "Jedi Rocks." You can even stream it on Spotify. Check out their music video for "The Imperial March" below.

Paramount Pictures Shut Down the FRIDAY THE 13TH Reboot

0

Over the past year, we've been hearing and reporting lots of things about the direction that the new Friday the 13th reboot would go. Some of the things I heard actually sounded like intriguing plot elements, Jason's dad being involved and it being a period piece that would've most likely taken place in the '70s or '80s.

Well, Paramount Pictures isn't going to give the film a chance. After being delayed several times, the studio has decided to take the machete away from Jason and then kill the film with it. The studio has shut down production.

Breck Eisner was set to direct the film and was deep into development when he got word the movie was no longer happening. There's no reason given as to why the production was canceled, but THR speculates that the poor performance of Paramount's new horror movie Rings may have played a role in making the decision. Rings only made $13 million over the weekend.

Sources say that execs quickly began second-guessing Friday the 13th, believing it would have chased the same audience, although others point out that the project is on the opposite spectrum of the horror scale. A source close to Friday the 13th would only say that "the production was not ready to go at this date."

I'm actually ok with the fact that this reboot isn't happening. I didn't like the last Friday the 13th movie at all, and there's really nothing new to do with the horror franchise. They should just take the money that they planned on spending on it and put it into a good original film project.

Thanos Is the Main Character of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

We already knew that Josh Brolin's Thanos would be the big bad of Avengers: Infinity War, but it looks like his role in the film goes even beyond that. With all of the characters that will be filling this movie, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that he's actually the main character in the story. During an interview with Collider, he said:

"Thanos in Infinity War is – in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War."

I love that the villain will be the main character in this movie. That's definitely a different direction for a Marvel film and one that should prove to be both interesting and refreshing.  It's also great to know that they are making sure to use the opportunity to develop the compelling villain and utilize the talent of Josh Brolin

We don't really know what kind of story Infinity War will tell, but we know that Thanos has to collect the Infinity Stones for his Gauntlet, so I imagine this first film will follow Thanos as he goes the the places where the stones reside, fighting our favorite heroes along they way as he takes the stones from them. I imagine this film ending on a major cliffhanger with Thanos having gathered all the stones, which will lead to a big epic battle for the universe in the untitled fourth Avengers film.

How do you think Thanos will be utilized in Infinity War? Do you have any ideas on how you think the story will play out?

Walk a Mile in Rey's Shoes With These FORCE AWAKENS-Inspired Boots

Carrie Fisher famously advised newbie Star Wars franchise star Daisy Ridley to fight for her outfit. Luckily, her costuming in The Force Awakens was fantastic and has already spawned a million cosplays. If you are looking for the perfect boots to complete your Rey outfit, check out the Piper V Dark Brown boots by Po-Zu. They are made of wool tweed, cork, and a mixture of latex and coconut husk and have something called a “butterfly suspension mechanism,” which, I don't know what that is, but it sounds a little bit magical. They are also currently on sale for $116.88, although by my calculations shipping to the U.S. is going to tack on about another $26. Still, the reviews call them hella comfortable, and Po-Zu is ranked No. 1 but the Ethical Company Good Shopping Guide, which can always make you feel good about yourself. Pick up a pair before they sell out again!

Kevin Feige Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Takes Place a "Couple Months" After First Film

0
0

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will pick up just a couple months after the events of the original film according to Kevin Feige. Comicbook writes that the story will find our heroes recognized as celebrities across the galaxy and trying to profit off of it. Feige shares the details in the quote below...

"I think they’re giving it a shot at being more organized heroes...They are, they are available for do-gooding, so to speak. It doesn’t always good well, but they try that. And when we first meet them, in the beginning of the movie, they’re on a place called Sovereign, where they’ve been asked to help with this giant sort of interdimensional beast that comes out and eats their batteries, their power source, and wreaks havoc on the planet, and the Guardians have been asked to come in and dispatch with that thing, and that’s how our film starts. And their legend and their mythology has grown and spread throughout the universe, because they defeated Ronan and because they were able to hold, Peter, in particular, was able to hold an Infinity Stone and not die, which also has spread his legend."

Something tells me that ability of Peter Quill's will play into Avengers: Infinity War, but let's leave that conversation for another day. The only thing I'm confused about at this point is where the events of Guardians take place in regards to the rest of the Marvel universe? If this film takes place only a couple months after the first film (which released in 2014), do these events take place at the same time or shortly after the events of Civil War and Doctor Strange? I feel like these timelines will need to be established. At some point if all the characters are going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, so now I need to know. I refuse to believe Marvel doesn't have an explicit timeline for these things, but now that I'm curious I can't find an answer to my question! Anyone have any guesses?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will release May 5th.

Short Teaser for THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE Looks Surprisingly Good

0

The LEGO Ninjago Movie is the latest film in the LEGO franchise to get the green light for the big screen, and this short trailer looks surprisingly good! Seriously between this and The LEGO Batman Movie, LEGO looks like they're going to successfully make "Action Movies For Kids" a viable genre in Hollywood. That opening shot of the city and the vehicles flying in kind of floored me. Check out the short teaser and share your thoughts on the film below. The LEGO Ninjago Movie is in theaters September 22nd.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2 Is Not Connected to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

0
0

Right on the heels of me asking how Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 fits into the Avengers: Infinity War storyline I get my answer. Turns out it doesn't! Kevin Feige, reading my mind, tells Comicbook that the new film is a standalone tale that will have no ties to the Avengers: Infinity War storyline. The Marvel man explains:

"I always say, all the movies, Civil War is a standalone story about that, but that fit into it...This is even more of a standalone story than that. This is about the characters. This is about their evolution as heroes, as their own internal family, as the group, a group of characters known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. You know, the way this film ends, and the team at the end, will inform future things, but there’s nothing that nods directly towards it."

Well, that conveniently dismisses my question about the Marvel timeline! I guess it makes sense that not everything in the Marvel films is a precursor to Avengers: Infinity War, but you would imagine as Thanos grows in power his presence would be felt more throughout the universe. It does sound like the end of the film has the Guardians travel though, right? Is that what Feige is hinting at in his quote, or does it mean something else?

Check Out This Outrageous Trailer for MICHAEL BOLTON'S BIG, SEXY VALENTINE'S DAY SPECIAL

When I first saw the title of Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special I expected great things. This trailer did not disappoint! From the team behind The Lonely Island and Comedy Bang Bang comes an epic tale of Michael Bolton and his holiday special that will set a mood unlike any other on your day of love. The special promises to have celebrity cameos, action, and the type of nonsense you would expect from the team bringing it to you! There's no way in hell my wife would let me watch this on Valentine's Day. Lucky for me it releases on February 7th.

Barb's Memory Will Be a Big Part of STRANGER THINGS Season 2

0
0

We are all super hyped for season two of Stranger Things after that great Super Bowl teaser (Confession: I honestly thought it was going to be an Eggo waffle commercial when it started), but we have months and months to wait until we can call in sick and binge watch the whole thing, so we should probably pace ourselves a bit. Today we don’t have anything like new footage, what we have is another promise that anyone on the show gives a damn about Barb, the surprise fan-favorite character who was (SPOILER!) murdered by the demogorgon, a fact that no one in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana seemed to care about at all.

Creators The Duffer Brothers promised awhile back that we would see “Justice for Barb” in season two, and now executive producer Shawn Levy has reiterated that promise, telling Variety that although the character is definitely dead (apparently some fans were hoping for a resurrection?), "Her memory, and the search for justice for her, is a big part of season two." Variety posted a brief video on Twitter:

Well, for Barb’s sake, I hope that is true. She never did anything but try to be a good friend to Nancy, who left her bleeding alone in the cold (literally!) so that she could hook up with that wanker Steve. And then, even though a second disappearance in like two days should have tipped them off to some sort of a pattern, everyone decided there was really no need to look into her absence. It was quite annoying to fans, especially my husband, who had to put up with me constantly yelling, “Why does everybody act like they forgot about Barb?”

Season two of Stranger Things will be a much more peaceful viewing experience for him. It drops on Netflix on Halloween.

Honest Trailer for JOHN WICK - "You Killed His Dog. You Stole His Car. He Kicked a Whole lot of Ass"

"He'll turn the entire world into a game of Call of Duty... on the easiest difficulty."

Screen Junkies takes on John Wick in their latest Honest Trailers episode, and it's pretty damn funny. It doesn't really do anything to tear the movie down like many of their Honest Trailers, it just makes a bunch of amusing observations about the ridiculousness of the movie that I think we can all agree with.
