Trailer for Showtime's 1970-Set Stand-Up Comedy Series I'M DYING UP HERE

Showtime has released a trailer for a fantastic looking stand-up comedy series called I'm Dying Up Here. The series is set Los Angeles in the 1970s, and it "delves into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious, but complex business of making an audience laugh."

Jim Carrey is an executive producer on the one-hour series, which is set in a time where the careers of comedy legends like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Richard Pryor were launched. The story follows a fictional group of "competitive but close-knit comedians... mentored by 'Goldie' (Melissa Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist, but nurtures her comedians with tough love. For Goldie and her crew, there’s truly no such thing as an easy laugh."

Dying Up Here stars Melissa Leo (Wayward Pines, Treme), Ari Graynor (Bad Teacher), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), Andrew Santino (Mixology), Erik Griffin (Workaholics), RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Al Madrigal (The Daily Show), and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child).

There will also be recurring guest stars including Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings), Brianne Howey (Horrible Bosses 2), Jon Daly (Kroll Show), Ginger Gonzaga (Togetherness), Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Robert Forster (Jackie Brown), Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Martian), and Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2).

The series premieres on Sunday, June 4th at 10pm on Showtime.

10 Forgotten Movie Sequels That Totally Should Have Happened

There are a lot of great movies out there that never had a chance to get the sequels that they deserved. WhatCulture has put a solid list together of ten of these films, some of which include Master and Commander, Serenity, Roger Rabbit, Superbad, The Goonies, Big Trouble in Little China and more. The only one of those that's still really an ongoing conversation is The Goonies 2. One movie that I've always wanted to see a sequel for, though, is Master and Commander. That first movie was great and there are so many more stories to tell with those characters! Which of the movies listed in the video below would you want to see a sequel for most?

The Coen Brothers Will Write and Direct the TV Series THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS

Joel and Ethan Coen are about to embark on a new adventure as they are set to write and direct their first TV series, an original project called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. This is an event anthology series that is set in the Old West.

According to Variety, Annapurna Television "intends to pursue an innovative approach that could combine television and theatrical." There's no information on how that will all play out. At this time they will shoot it as a limited series because the story is too big and challenging to be covered in a single film. It sounds like they will be doing the same thing with it that is being done with Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Maybe the majority of the series will screen on TV and then the final two hours will be presented in movie form?

There are no story details to share regarding The Ballad of Buster Scruggs at this time, but it's said that it will intertwine six different story lines set in the Old West. I'm a huge fan of these filmmakers, and I love their movies, so I can't wait to see what they are planning!

Odd Trailer for URBAN MYTHS Features Strange First Look at Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson

The first trailer for the show Urban Myths has been released, and it gives us our first weird look at Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson. This is a satirical show that will retell embellished true life events of public figures. This includes a post-9/11 road trip that Michael Jackson supposedly took with Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor that you can read about here. Stockard Channing plays Taylor in the series, and Brian Cox takes on the role of Brando. It also features Eddie Marsan as Bob Dylan, Ben Chaplin as Cary Grant, Iwan Rheon as Adolf Hitler, and Rupert Grint as a friend of Hitler.

If case you're wondering what they were thinking when Fiennes was cast in the role, director Ben Palmer told The Guardian:

“We were casting Michael Jackson in 2001 and that obviously is a challenge in terms of the physical resemblance. We were really looking for the performance that could unlock the spirit, and we really think Joe Fiennes has done that. He’s given a really sweet, nuanced, characterful performance.”

Fiennes went on to share his confused thoughts on being cast in the role saying:

"The decision with the casting and the producers — I wrangled with it, I was confused and shocked at what might come my way, and I knew the sensitivity, especially to Michael's fans and to Michael's family. It doesn't negate who he was."

Urban Myths is set to premiere on January 19th on Sky Arts.

George Lucas has finally found a home for his Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The $1 billion museum will be coming to Exposition Park in Los Angeles, and I couldn't be more excited because I can go visit it anytime! The museum's board of directors said in a statement:

"After extensive due diligence and deliberation, the Board of Directors of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is pleased to announce plans to build the museum in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. We have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive support we received from both San Francisco and Los Angeles during our selection process. Settling on a location proved to be an extremely difficult decision precisely because of the desirability of both sites and cities."

The museum will include rare pieces from the filmmaker's personal collection, including tons of memorabilia from Star Wars and other films. This isn't just a Star Wars museum, though. It will also display vintage photographs and an awesome selection of traditional paintings, some of which you can see below. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said:

"This is a collection of narrative art in a city that has the best storytellers and storymakers in the world. The best collection of Norman Rockwell paintings on Earth. Works from R. Crumb."

The museum is scheduled to open on May 4, 2020. Check out some of the fantastic art that will be on display there below. You'll also find illustrations of the design of the museum at the very bottom.

Cinema Quality Sound Comes Home in a Small Package With New Phillips Speaker

Would I love to have cinema quality sound in my living room? Hell, yes! However, I don't have the space for it. With entertainment centers on the way out and televisions getting thinner and wall mounted, I need something small that fits new setup as well as delivers the power that my bulky sound bar once provided. Phillips Fidelio B1 Nano Cinema Speaker doesn't only solve my space problem...it has a level of sound and quality beyond what my sound bar could ever provide!

I think my favorite part about this sound rig is how slim the subwoofer is. This change in design does not compromise sound, however, as its unique design allows for wider frequencies while at the same time keeping people from mistaking it for a stool to sit on. It's also bluetooth enabled so you can run music through your phone to the device when you aren't using it for movies or gaming! Here's a look at the sound specs...

• Sound Enhancement: Treble and Bass Control, Audio sync, Auto Volume Leveler, Virtual
Surround Sound
• Sound System: DTS Digital Surround, Dolby Digital
• Subwoofer output power: 200W
• Speaker output power: 120W
• Total Power RMS @ 10% THD: 320W

The retail price comes in a shade over $500. Find it in stores now.

A red-band trailer has been released for Matthew McConaughey's upcoming film Gold, which looks interestingly good. This seems like a great role for McConaughy to take on, and he's said that so far it's his favorite character that he's ever played. The movie is inspired by a true story, and this is the synopsis:

GOLD is the epic tale of one man’s pursuit of the American dream, to discover gold. Starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street.

The film was directed by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) and the supporting cast includes Edgar Ramirez and Bryce Dallas Howard. The movie is set to be released on January 27th.

Creepy New Photo From ANNABELLE 2

creepy-new-photo-for-annabelle-2

There used to be this creepy-ass doll in my family that we would scare the shit out of each other with. We'd hide it in places and sneak it in places where we'd unsuspectingly find it. It all started when I snuck into my brother's bedroom while he was sleeping and placed it at the end of the bed sitting down staring at him. He woke up the whole house with the wonderful sounds of blood-curdling screams.

Anyway, this new photo that was released for the upcoming horror film Annabelle 2 reminded me of that. If I ever walked into my room at night and a doll like this was sitting up on my bed I'd take it and burn it. It would definitely send chills down my spine! I'm surprised that the poor girl in the photo isn't shown running out screaming like my little brother did.

Annabelle 2 tells the tale of a dollmaker and his wife who, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Very soon, however, they become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The movie is being directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), and it stars Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (upcoming Ouija 2, Deliver Us from Evil), Philippa Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (Foxcatcher, The Last Witch Hunter), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace) and Miranda Otto (Homeland, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy).

Annabelle 2 is scheduled for release on August 11, 2017.

Krysten Ritter Teases Jessica Jones and Daredevil’s Relationship in THE DEFENDERS - “This is a Reluctant Team”

Last week, we got our first look at Marvel’s The Defenders gathered together along with a cool photoshoot for them. Those photos featured Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist).

We now have some interviews being released by EW, and the first one comes from Ritter, who talks about what Jessica Jones is going through mentally when The Defenders picks up and also talks about her relationship with Daredevil. About her character, she says:

“She’s still dealing with the aftermath of Kilgrave, and now she’s dealing with ‘success’ — and not well. People want her to work for them, she’s getting a lot of business, and she’s not ready for any of that. She hasn’t changed, but her environment has, and there’s no handbook for how to exist in a world where you are now popular.”

Showrunner Marco Ramirez adds:

“She’s gloriously the most reluctant hero in the world. She’s going to have to let three men into her life who she doesn’t 100 percent trust.”

The site goes on to reveal that so far, Ritter has shot most of her scenes with Cox’s Daredevil, and when talking about the relationship between the characters, she explains that it’s a “cat-and-mouse” dynamic. When talking about who is the cat and who is the mouse, she says:

“It switches back and forth, to be honest. No one’s best friends in all of the Defenders. This is a reluctant team-up.”

I love that fact that these heroes are reluctant to be fighting alongside each other. That aspect of these hardcore characters will make for a fascinating dynamic. Ritter then goes on to discuss her thoughts on the script when she first read it:

“When I read the first two scripts, I was like, ‘Wow, this is going to be big,’ because it’s so fun seeing these huge characters, and not just the four of us, but all of us in one show. This just has a big scope. It’s a much bigger world, because all of our characters have a very specific way in, a specific beat.”

The Defenders is set to hit Netflix this summer, and I can’t wait!

Mark Hamill Is Back as The Joker to Read Donald Trump’s Meryl Streep Twitter Rant

Mark Hamill has released another hilarious audio clip of himself as The Joker reading a Donald Trump Twitter rant. This one involves his rant about Meryl Streep when he called her "one of most over-rated actresses in Hollywood" and a "Hillary lover," after she went off on Trump at the Golden Globes. Hamill posted the following comment on Twitter:

“Am I the ONLY one man enough to confront this #OverratedFlunkyLoser without resorting to an ad hominem assault?”

I hope Hamill continues this Trumpster tradition as Trump is sure to post a lot more crazy tweets throughout the course of his presidency. To listen to Hamill's last Trumpster audio recording, click here.

New POWERLESS Promo Spots Reveal Alan Tudyk Is Bruce Wayne’s Cousin

Two new promo spots have been released for NBC’s DC comedy series Powerless, and one of them makes a pretty big reveal. Alan Tudyk is playing Van Wayne… Bruce Wayne’s cousin. I love that! I’m sure there will be other fun connections like that as we learn more about the series.

The new series focuses on a quirky group of "exceedingly average" employees of Wayne Securities Research and Development company that comes up with new ideas and technologies to help average people survive in a world full of superheroes leaving a mess behind them every time they fight a battle.

The series also stars Vanessa HudgensCommunity's Danny Pudi, and A to Z's Christina Kirk. Here's the synopsis:

Emily Locke lands her dream job as Director of Research and Development for Wayne Security in Charm City, home to super heroes and villains and citizens fed up with the collateral damage of their constant fighting. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her aspirations far exceed those of her new boss and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

Powerless is set to premiere on February 2nd on NBC.

Of all the movies that you saw in 2016, which had the best visual effects? There are a few obvious blockbuster choices, like Captain America: Civil War or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but remember The Jungle Book? Or Kubo and the Two Strings? It's probably going to be a tough category at the Oscars next month, and now Art of the Film has put out a supercut that conveniently compiles footage from the ten hopefuls. Only five of these films will actually get nominated on January 24th, and the rest will join Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse, Sully, Suicide Squad, Warcraft, and more in the reject pile. Which one do you think has the best shot to bring home the gold?

Ares Revealed as Main Villain in WONDER WOMAN

$
0
0

Ares, the god of war, will be the main adversary to overcome in the upcoming Wonder Woman film. Comicbook snagged a translation from a French film site confirming the news that reads as follows...

“Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against him, with the help of the Amazons)…”

If I had to guess, Ares will be disguised as a German army general in human form or something like that and we won't get to see him in his full godly garb until the end of the film, if at all.

Even though we know the villain, there are still a lot of unknowns about how Ares will be portrayed in the film. Ares has been known as a brother to Diana Prince, a mentor, and I even remember a Justice League episode where he claimed to be her father! WB and DC may choose to revisit one of those directions, or just go ahead and make up yet another way their fates are tied. They may even pretend like the two have never met before!

The inclusion of Ares adds a mythological opening that I hope we see more of in the film! As much as I like the war movie feel, I also want to see some over the top Amazon vs. a Greek God kind of action going on! Do you think we'll get to see some fantasy style action in this film or will it be all war based?

Wonder Woman is in theaters June 2nd.
