The shoe manufacturer Po-Zu has released a great new Star Wars: The Force Awakens sneaker design inspired by the character Poe Dameron. I love this style because the have a wicked cool futuristic retro style to them. Here's the description they offer.

This vegan high-top lace-up sneaker will be available from August for women’s, men’s and children; made in organic cotton with the symbol of the Rebel Alliance rubberized badge. Pre-orders will start in the spring. I have no idea how much they will be, but I want a pair!

Musterbrand has revealed a pretty slick and stealthy clothing line based on the Assassin's Creed franchise. They've previously brought us clothing lines for Metal Gear Solid and Halo. These guys know how to craft some badass looking clothes. They are pretty pricey clothes, but you've gotta pay the price for top-notch quality, designs, and style. There was rumor reported earlier this week that Disney was in talks with Carrie Fisher's estate to possibly use her likeness in future installments of Star Wars. Since the rumors have spun out of control, Lucasfilm thought it was necessary to put an end to the rumors and speculation. They released an official statement on StarWars.com saying that they have no plans to digitally recreate Fisher's iconic character Leia, which I'm sure will ease the minds of fans. Here's what they had to say:

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

So that answers that. There are no plans for digital CG Leia. Whatever plans that Lucafilm had for her in Episode IX will be changed as they take certain parts of their story in a new direction. 

Another trailer has been released for Asa Butterfield’s new coming-of-age sci-fi drama The Space Between Us. The story centers around a teenage boy who was born on Mars and follows his life-threatening journey to Earth… for a girl. Oh yeah, and while he’s there he also takes the opportunity to look for his dad. 

This movie isn’t going to give us anything ground-breaking or mind-blowing but it looks like it tells a simple, charming story. It has a great cast that includes Britt Robertson, Carla Gugino, Gary Oldman, BD Wong, Janet Montgomery, and Jenny Gabrielle. Here's a detailed synopsis:

In this interplanetary adventure, a space shuttle embarks on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to discover after takeoff that one of the astronauts is pregnant. Shortly after landing, she dies from complications while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet – never revealing who the father is. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot – an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing. 

While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he’s never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa. When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he’s eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars – from the most simple to the extraordinary. But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner’s organs can’t withstand Earth’s atmosphere. 

Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team of scientists and joins with Tulsa on a race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe. 

The movie will be released in theaters on February 3, 2017.

FX sure does love its American Horror Story series! They've ordered two more installments that will take the series all the way through season nine! As a fan of the show, I'm pretty damn excited about this news! 

The least season was such an odd, unpredictable, surprising, and crazy fun story. After everything that creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have done with the show the past six seasons, I can't wait to see what they have in store for seven, eight, and nine! I can't help but think they already have their concepts planned out and ready to be developed. Fox doesn't even know what those plans are for season eight and nine!

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said that the series renewals came about from “good numbers and faith” and “out of trust and good will.” He went on to say:

“American Horror Story launched the modern limited series revolution and – as evidenced by the most recent installment ‘Roanoke’ – it remains as vital today as when Murder House stunned audiences six years ago. Each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot.”

Season seven is currently in development, and both Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are set to return. At this point, all that's been revealed about the plot is that it will take place in modern day. We'll just have to be patient until we find out more details. We didn't even really know what was going one with season six until it aired on TV!

AT&T has released a great new commercial that pays tribute to geek pop culture. It includes some fun references to movies and TV shows such as Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Game of Thrones, Knight Rider, Cheers, Rocky, Breaking Bad, Sex and the City, Seinfeld, and Sesame Street. It also features cameos including David Hasselhoff driving KITT, Big Bird, and Cheers stars John Ratzenberger and George Wendt. There are a lot of other cool things that are packed into this one minute ad, and I think you'll enjoy it!

Fox has released a couple new TV spots for two of their highly anticipated series — the Prison Break revival and 24: Legacy.

I'm mostly excited for Prison Break because I loved that show! I really hope that this next chapter in this story turns out great and does these characters justice. I would have been fine had the series not been revived, but since it's coming, of course I'm going to watch it!

I'd be more excited about 24: Legacy if Kiefer Sutherland returned as Jack Bower, but this series centers on a character named Eric Carter who is played by Corey Hawkins. It looks like it could be good, so I'll give it shot. 

Six months ago in Yemen, an elite squad of U.S. Army Rangers, led by Sergeant ERIC CARTER (Corey Hawkins, “Straight Outta Compton”), killed terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. You've got to watch this beautifully brilliant short film "Reset." It tells the chilling and suspenseful story of a little girl named Sophie who lives alone on a desolate farm with her mother. The synopsis explains that this is a "place that hides a secret far worse than she could have imagined." That secret completely shatters her reality and takes her down a rabbit hole of insanity. The film was directed by Kryler Åkerström Film, who says:

"We both come from a childhood marked by much loneliness, where the security of one's parents was vital. The thing that scared the most was the thought that once parents would die, or disappear, the security would be crushed, or that it was only an illusion. With Reset, we want to portray this particular fear a child would feel when the worst thinkable becomes a reality."

I hope you take the time to watch and enjoy this. If you like good compelling stories then you won't want to miss it!

The CW has released a bunch of cool photos from the Kevin Smith-directed mid-season premiere of Supergirl, "Supergirl Lives." A couple weeks ago we saw the first promo spot for the episode, and it looks like it's going to be great. I love that Smith is involved with directing episodes of these DC series. 

In the upcoming episode, Supergirl finds herself going up against Roulette and brings Mon-El along for the ride. The new photos feature these characters and also include a few behind-the-scenes shots of Smith and Melissa Benoist working on the episode.

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman).

To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister.

"Supergirl Lives" is set to air on January 23rd. 

Marvel Comics has officially announced their new series All New Guardians of the Galaxy. The comic comes from writer Gerry Duggan (Deadpool, Nova), artist Aaron Kuder (Death of X), and colorist Ive Svorcina (Secret Wars).

The original character roster of Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Drax are all set to return. There are a few interesting changes with some of the characters, such as Groot apparently being stuck in his tiny form with no one able to explain why he isn't regenerating, Then there's Drax the Destroyer, who is now Drax the Pacifist. According to CB:

The series will pick up some time after 'Grounded,' the final arc of the current Guardians of the Galaxy series. All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #1 kicks off with the Guardians on a job and embroiled in a war between two of the Elders of the Universe, the Collector and the Grandmaster.

Duggan said about the series:

"We want to put these guys into new cosmic situations. We're right in the middle of a heist in the first issue. I think, even though they're functioning well as a team, they're each looking forward to handling their own business, so they might be feeling gravity's pull apart. They have a lot going on individually and I'm really excited to explore that.

"Aaron and I have a really fun introduction to this team in the first issue cooked up, and we'll see that they are handling this heist as best they can, that it’s complicated, and it gets very cosmic."

He then offered some more details on the characters in the series explaining:

"We have some mysteries brewing out in space. When our story picks up, Groot is small and doesn't seem to be growing large. We don't quite know why. The Guardians don't know why. The readers won't have very long to find that will be a problem moving forward, in a fun way, I hope.

"Drax is done destroying. Something has happened to him to that has made him leave his swords down. Drax is still Drax. He wants to destroy, he's just holding back for now. It's a fun turn for him as he struggles with pacifism like an alcoholic might struggle in a bar.

"For many years now we've heard about the Collector's collection and how that's the best collection of the galaxy, and it has the most valuable and unique and wondrous things. That's true to a point, but the Grandmaster also has another collection. By giving the Collector a rival, we now have an opportunity to really make trouble for the Guardians. And so, this first arc is very much a war between the Collector and the Grandmaster over artifacts that they both want for their collection, and there can only be one winner. It feels right to open up in a big way with those amazing Marvel Universe cosmic entities. It's going to be a lot of fun.

"The story begins as the team is mid-job. They're initially hired by one side and then compromised. They each have their own reason for wanting a big score.

"The Guardians’ escape from that arc, too, is going to be something I don't think anyone will see coming. It's very Guardians."

If you're a fan of Chris Pratt, you're going to love this video released by Vanity Fair in which he shows us how to clean and gut a fish. This whole outdoorsman persona that Pratt presents in this video should be a real TV show! It's pretty damn funny to watch Pratt filleting a freakin' fish. 

It's looking like we might not have seen the last of Diego Luna's character from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian Andor. There's a good chance he might show up again in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Han Solo standalone film! 

Luna was recently stopped on the red carpet by MTV and talked about how happy he was with the final cut of Rogue One, saying it's the best version that exists. He was then straight up asked if there was a chance we could see him pop up in the Han Solo movie, and instead of saying no, he lit up, and the way he skirted around the answering the question seems very telling.

If you watch the video below you'll see what I mean. It's just very suspicious, and he certainly acted like he knew something that he wasn't allowed to confirm. If he's not in the movie he could have easily just said no, but instead, after acting weird, he said that he “doesn’t have an answer for that.” 

To me, that means there's a very good chance they are planning to use him in the film. I hope so! I really did like his character, and it would make sense to see him in a Han Solo movie. Cassian is just one of those shady characters who would fit right in with the kind of people that Solo would hang out with.

I doubt he'll have a big role in the film. I imagine it would just be a cameo, but you never know! It would just be cool to see him back in the Star Wars universe. 

In heist movies, cat burglars are always doing cool things like dramatically blowing powder onto hidden lasers and performing crazy physical moves in order to get past them and steal their prize. Remember that famous scene from Entrapment?

Or the not-so-famous one from Ocean's Twelve?

Well, here's a real-life version of one of those laser-filled rooms, which I'd have to imagine would be a nightmare for a thief who was trying to steal something. It's called Outlines, but was never available to the public because it was set to appear in a Russian festival that was ultimately cancelled. That's a bummer, but at least someone got in there with a camera, because this thing looks trippy in the best way. Check it out.

Amazon has released the first trailer for their anime series Ronja, The Robbers Daughter which is presented by the legendary anime studio Studio Ghibli. The fantastic looking series is based on the children's fantasy book written by Astrid Lindgren, who is also the author of Pippi Longstocking.

The series is narrated by The X-Files' Gillian Anderson, and it was directed by Gorō Miyazaki (Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea). The story tells the tale of a thief's 10-year-old daughter named Ronja, described as a strong and spirited girl, who is beloved by everyone. "Driven by her thirst for adventure, she comes face-to-face with wondrous creatures who inhabit the forest and finds a most unlikely friend - the son of her father's rival."

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is an epic 26-part story of 10-year-old Ronja (Teresa Gallagher), born on a stormy night in a mountain fort, surrounded by her father (Rufus Hound), mother (Morwenna Banks) and a loving band of robbers. She grows to be a strong girl, and discovers that the forest is both a beautiful and frightening place inhabited by strange creatures. She befriends Birk (Kelly Adams), the son of her father’s rival, and so begins the drama of her friendship and family loyalties. Viewers follow along as she explores and understands these key factors in her life, and discovers that seemingly irresolvable choices can finally be made with the help of love and understanding.

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is already a big hit in Japan, and now the rest of the world will be able to enjoy it. When talking about the series Miyazaki said: 

“With Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter, Astrid Lindgren seems to be telling children to believe in their own power to grow, whilst telling adults to learn more from children. Mutual respect will attain freedom in the true sense of the word.”

The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on January 27th, and I can't wait to watch it.

Joel and Ethan Coen are about to embark on a new adventure as they are set to write and direct their first TV series, an original project called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. This is an event anthology series that is set in the Old West. 

According to Variety, Annapurna Television "intends to pursue an innovative approach that could combine television and theatrical." There's no information on how that will all play out. At this time they will shoot it as a limited series because the story is too big and challenging to be covered in a single film. It sounds like they will be doing the same thing with it that is being done with Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Maybe the majority of the series will screen on TV and then the final two hours will be presented in movie form? 

There are no story details to share regarding The Ballad of Buster Scruggs at this time, but it's said that it will intertwine six different story lines set in the Old West. I'm a huge fan of these filmmakers, and I love their movies, so I can't wait to see what they are planning! 

The first trailer for the show Urban Myths has been released, and it gives us our first weird look at Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson. This is a satirical show that will retell embellished true life events of public figures. This includes a post-9/11 road trip that Michael Jackson supposedly took with Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor that you can read about here. Stockard Channing plays Taylor in the series, and Brian Cox takes on the role of Brando. It also features Eddie Marsan as Bob Dylan, Ben Chaplin as Cary Grant, Iwan Rheon as Adolf Hitler, and Rupert Grint as a friend of Hitler.

If case you're wondering what they were thinking when Fiennes was cast in the role, director Ben Palmer told The Guardian:

“We were casting Michael Jackson in 2001 and that obviously is a challenge in terms of the physical resemblance. We were really looking for the performance that could unlock the spirit, and we really think Joe Fiennes has done that. He’s given a really sweet, nuanced, characterful performance.”

Fiennes went on to share his confused thoughts on being cast in the role saying:

"The decision with the casting and the producers — I wrangled with it, I was confused and shocked at what might come my way, and I knew the sensitivity, especially to Michael's fans and to Michael's family. It doesn't negate who he was."

Urban Myths is set to premiere on January 19th on Sky Arts.
