This Millennium Falcon Multi-Tool Kit Is a STAR WARS Gift That's Actually Useful

There are only a few more days left until Christmas, and if you're still on the hunt for a decent gift for that Star Wars-loving friend of yours, this Millennium Falcon multi-tool kit seems like a mighty fine choice. Aside from t-shirts, a majority of pop-culture related gifts don't really serve much of a function in the real world. Those high-end action figures are cool and everything, but this will actually allow you to fix something if it breaks down...and you'll look geeky as hell while doing it, too. You can pick this up for $29.99 at ThinkGeek.

Ryan Reynolds Explains Why He Thinks DEADPOOL Succeeded Where GREEN LANTERN Failed

$

Considering the joke they made at its expense in the opening credits of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds must be pretty comfortable with the fact Green Lantern sucked. The actor was recently asked by EW about Deadpool's success and where Green Lantern failed and responded:

“Well it’s simple: Deadpool always knew what it was...With Green Lantern, I don’t think anyone ever figured out exactly what it was. That isn’t to say the hundreds of men and women didn’t work their fingers to the bone to make it as good as poosible. It also fell victim to the process in Hollywood which is like poster first, release date second, script last. At the time, it was a huge opportunity for me so I was excited to try and take part in it. I did however write a letter to Fox right before I had to decide whether or not I was gonna do Green Lantern. I asked one last time sort of like the groom standing at the alter, ‘Will you please be my wife?’ and they said they couldn’t pull the trigger on Deadpool. For too many reasons too boring to illustrate, it just didn’t work.”

Sounds like Reynolds was in a corner. He could've remained stubborn and risked never being in a hero film, or sucked it up and hoped the brownie points for Green Lantern would get Deadpool the go ahead in the future.

Don't forget that if it weren't for "someone" (Reynolds and producers) leaking some test footage for the project, we would've never seen the film! In hindsight, it seems so silly that this film sat in development hell for so long before it finally got made! Then again, it's almost sillier that anyone wants to take another chance on a Green Lantern movie after the disastrous first one. I'm holding out hope against hope that Green Lantern can get a decent film, but Fantastic Four has shown me second chances don't always pan out.

Two New Promo Spots for The CW's Dark Archie Series RIVERDALE

Teaser Trailer Appears For Live ACtion GINTAMA Film1

This new Riverdale series from The CW offers us a version of the classic Archie comic character that we've never seen before. This is a very dark and twisted reimagining of the classic characters, and today we have two new promos for the series that give us our best look yet at what's in store for us. The series comes from The Flash and Arrow producer Greg Berlanti, and I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Riverdale follows the main crew of Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, as they explore the surrealistic twists of small-town life, in addition to the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade. Set in fictional town of Riverdale, N.Y., the drama will focus on the love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper and rich socialite Veronica Lodge.
The entire cast of supporting characters, including Reggie Mantle, Archie's rival; Jughead Jones, Archie's best friend; Kevin Keller, a popular gay character; and Josie and the Pussycats; will also be featured and introduced.

It was recently announced that Molly Ringwald will be playing Archie's mom in the series. Riverdale premieres Thursday, January 26, 2017. Check out the new TV spots below and let us know if this looks like a series you'll want to tune into.

Kathleen Kennedy Says First STAR WARS Episode VIII Footage Coming in the Spring

Kathleen Kennedy says we can expect to see the first footage of Star Wars: Episode VIII sometime in the spring. Slashfilm Kennedy said the following in regards to the trailer for the film...

“We’re giving [Rogue One] a little bit of breathing room, and then probably heading into spring, you’ll start to see things.”

She didn't say trailer, so maybe the studio is considering the Adam Driver suggestion of no trailer? I highly doubt it, but I would be completely fine with just teaser posters and limited footage up until the release! It would suck because rumors would run rampant about the film, but it would be worth it for the air of mystery it would provide for people going in blind!

Would you be fine with not seeing Star Wars footage until the movie releases?

Teaser Trailer Appears for Live Action GINTAMA Film

I had no idea a Gintama live-action film was a thing until about five minutes ago, but I couldn't be more excited for it! Gintama is one of the few subtitled anime that can make me laugh out loud with its wit! It's saying something when a show's humor transcends language barriers.

I'm hoping this film keeps that style and doesn't take itself too seriously, but we all know how these live action anime films disappoint us so. Watch the teaser trailer below.

Vincent D'Onofrio Rules Out Kingpin for Marvel DEFENDERS and SPIDER-MAN

Vincent D'Onofrio is fairly adament that Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, will not be appearing in the new Marvel Defenders series. Comicbook reports the actor went on Twitter to address several fans asking and essentially said "not a chance"...

When another fan asked about Spider-Man and if we could expect to see Fisk in the MCU, D'Onofrio was less confident but said it's highly unlikely...

I don't think you can bring D'Onofrio's Kingpin to the new Spider-Man universe. That Wilson Fisk is wayyyy too dark for a series that's going to center around high school age Peter Parker. As much as I love his portrayal, I think it's time for the series to give him a break so the world doesn't get tired of him! Let's be excited for whomever The Defenders are taking on!

ROGUE ONE Character Saw Gerrera Is Coming to STAR WARS REBELS

rogue-one-character-saw-gerrera-is-coming-to-star-wars-rebels11

A Star Wars character has been making his way around the galaxy. Saw Gerrera was created as a character for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is where he made his debut. He then made his way into the story for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which he was fantastically played by Forest Whittaker. He played a pretty big part of that story, and that's not the last time we'll see the character in action! It looks like he will be returning to play a role in the current animated series Star Wars Rebels

The big reveal was made in some promo poster art that was spotted at a Toys R Us. You can see a photo of that promo art below. As you can see it comes with the tagline, "Save the rebellion, save the dream."

As many of you already know, Star Wars Rebels takes place prior to the events of Rogue One, so We'll get to see what he was doing during a different time in the Star Wars universe. It'd be pretty awesome if we got some background information on Gerrera and why he split off from the Rebel Alliance to form the Partisans. Of course, there's a lot more background for the character that they could explore. At this point, all we can do is speculate as to what that could be.

It's just exciting to learn that the Star Wars universe isn't done with this character yet! Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD with the second half of season three on January 7, 2017.

New Photo From ALIEN: COVENANT Reminds Me of Colonial Marines

new-photo-from-alien-covenant-reminds-me-of-colonial-marines1

A new photo from Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant has surfaced, and the visual reminds me of the Colonial Marines from James Cameron's Aliens. I have no idea what is going on in this image, but this definitely looks like a military group, which I assume this is the crew of the Covenant exploring the remote planet where they will come face to face with a xenomorph threat that will tear them apart, one by one. Of course, it would be pretty freakin' specatcular if there was a side group of Colonial Marines that did show up in the film!

The photo came with the number sequence 220512052104. I'm not really sure what it means, but some people speculate that it could be a time and date such as 22:05 12/05/2104. Is this the time and date that this scene takes place in? I have no idea.

“Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the ‘synthetic’ David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Alien: Covenant also stars Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, and Danny McBride and is set to hit theaters on August 4, 2017.

Batman Vs. Superman in Fun STREET FIGHTER-Style Clip From JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION

Cartoon Network has released a new clip from an upcoming episode of the DC animated series Justice League Action, and the best one features a fun fight scene between Superman and Batman. What makes the clip so fun is that it pays homage to the video game Street Fighter

In the clip, Toyman captures members of the Justice League team to play in a VR-type video game battle competition. I enjoyed the little details in the clip, especially the video game humor in which Cyborg keeps pushing Batman’s taunt button so that he repeatedly yells “I. AM. BATMAN!” Then there's Superman and Batman calling out all their attacks as they fight.

Have you been watching this animated series since it premiered? If so, have you been enjoying it? I think this clip looks like it could be the best thing to come out of it so far.

First Poster For DYING LAUGHING Documentary Features a Bunch of Familiar Faces

Here's the first poster for Dying Laughing, a nice documentary about the art of stand-up comedy. As the headline promises, the poster is plastered with a bunch of faces fans of the comedy scene will certainly be familiar with, and I dig the design — it's almost like if this were promoting a one night only comedy event gathering some of the biggest and best names in the business for a live show. It has that homegrown, "printed out as a flyer and stapled to a telephone pole in a trendy neighborhood" kind of feel to it.

Another familiar name that readers of this site may recognize: the critic quoted at the very top of the poster. Between this and Doctor Strange, I'm having a pretty good 2016 when it comes to helping people promote their movies. It's nice that I actually enjoyed both of those films, and you can read my full review of Dying Laughing from the L.A. Film Fest right here. The movie hits theaters on February 24, 2017.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Gets a Spectacular Retro-Style Trailer Mashup

Spider-Man: Homecoming is one of the most anticipated films of 2017 and fans are eager to see more footage from it. While we wait for that, I've got an amazingly fun retro-style mashup trailer that was created by Darth Blender. It combines footage from The Amazing Spider-Man (1977), The Goonies (1985), Condorman (1981), and Tuff Turf (1985). The footage is all cut together to the audio of the Homecoming trailer.

A young Peter Parker (Nicholas Hammond) begins to navigate his newfound identity as the Spider-Man. Do not miss this spectacular adventure recorded in high-fidelity stereo sound and clear color image. Prepare your tape and set your VCR, because you'll rewatch it again and again off primetime!

THOR: RAGNAROK Confirmed to Include PLANET HULK's Sakaar

Fan Art by George Evangelista

We've known for quite some time already that Thor: Ragnarok would incorporate elements of Planet Hulk. We just didn't really know which elements those would be outside of the gladiatorial games that will be featured in the film.

Well, thanks to director Taika Waititi, we now know that Sakaar will also be included in the film. For those of you not familiar with that name, it's the planet that Hulk finds himself on in the Planet Hulk comic book storyline. Talking about the planet in Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi said:

“Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters."

I have a feeling a majority of the story is going to take place on Sakaar and that this is going to be the closest thing we get to seeing a Planet Hulk movie. Here's a more detailed description of Sakaar, thanks to Marvel:

The desolate planet Sakaar is located near a wormhole, in the Tayo Star System, of the Fornax Galaxy. Many very powerful beings have found refuge on Sakaar. The planet is also home to various robotic and android beings of unknown origin; it is presumed that the technology as well as the inhabitants of Sakaar came to reside on the planet via the wormhole. Sakaar has been in a constant state of war by the barbaric refugees that called the planet home. The planet was ruled by the very powerful Red King, before he was overthrown by the Hulk and the Warbound warriors.

I'm sure that wormhole will be included in the movie, and that's how the Hulk and Thor will eventually end up there. The film has been described as a crazy retro story that's like an intergalactic road trip. It's also been said that this will be the biggest and most different Marvel movie to date. I can't wait to see this thing!

To see some of the first promo art for the film click here, and for some of the other details on the film and what we will see from it, make sure to click hereThor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3rd, 2017. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, and Sam Neill.

Jason David Frank Will Reportedly Be in POWER RANGERS, Plus a Sequel Comic Was Announced

jason-david-frank-will-reportedly-be-in-power-rangers-plus-a-sequel-comic-was-announced3

I've got a couple bits of new Power Rangers movie news to share with you today. Just yesterday we got our first look at what Goldar will look like in the film, and it was completely trashed by the fans. The images of the villain sparked a little argument with Blake Foster on his Instagram page which caused him to drop a bit of news about the film. In case you don't know who Foster is, he plays Justin Stewart/Blue Ranger in the Power Rangers Turbo series.

It seems like he must have a little inside information because during the argument he said, "you don't even know bro but JDF is in it so don't come on my page trying to bash people."

JDF would be short for Jason David Frank, who was introduced as Tommy the villainous Green Ranger in the original series. He later joined the heroic side and evolved into the White Ranger. Frank has been involved with the franchise ever since appearing in Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers DinoThunder, and Power Rangers Turbo. It might be fun for fans to see him in the upcoming movie... if they're excited about it.

It's also been announced that there's a sequel for the film in development in the form of a comic book. That news came from IGN, and they say the comic is called Power Rangers: Aftershock. It will be published by BOOM! Studios and released five days after the movie is released. The comic was written by Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Batman: Gates of Gotham) with art by Lucas Werneck.

The story takes place "immediately after the events of the movie and continues the adventures of Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack, and Billy." I've heard from someone who claims to have seen the film already that the whole movie basically sets up the characters and that the team doesn't even morph until the last 15-20 minutes of the movie. If the long, drawn out origin story doesn't pay off for them and the movie ends up bombing at the box office, this comic will be the only sequel that fans get.

The movie hits theaters March 24th so the graphic novel comes out on March 29th. I included the two covers of the graphic novel below.

Matthew McConaughey Would Play Rust Cohle Again in TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3

HBO had something special on its hands with the first season of True Detective, a show that was not only a pop culture phenomenon, but also led the charge in the trend of A-list movie stars heading from the movies to prestige TV shows. The first season was excellent, but the second season — with completely different actors and different directors — was a creative disaster and maybe the most drastic drop in quality from one season of a show to the next that I can remember. I know season two has its defenders, but man...it just did not work for me on any level.

There's been talk of a possible third season, and perhaps what the show needs to get back up and running again is an injection of what made the first season so awesome to begin with: namely, Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle. The actor has mentioned being open to returning to the part if the situation was right, and he reiterated that claim on the Rich Eisen Show:

I'd much rather creator Nic Pizzollato take like three years between seasons and write something amazing for McConaughey than churn out another piece of junk season again, so even if this takes forever to happen, I say go for it and make it so. I'd gladly take a bit more Rust Cohle in my life right now.

Functional LEGO Piranha Plant From SUPER MARIO BROS.

When Avatar came out, I remember seeing a bunch of news stories about people who were obsessed with seeing the movie over and over again because they wanted to spend as much time as possible on Pandora and could barely handle the idea that it wasn't a real place. If anyone's like that, only for Super Mario Bros. instead of Avatar, here's a practical way to bring an aspect from that video game world into our real world and maybe ease your pain a little bit (or at the very least, just give you something awesome to put on your desk).

This video from JK Brickworks shows off a working LEGO version of the game's Piranha Plant, and even goes into detail showing you how you can make one of your own. Check it out:
