arrow-and-supergirl-finally-meet-in-teaser-photo-for-arrows-100th-episode

When Supergirl joined The CW's DC Universe, plans were put in place to see her crossover with The Flash again, Arrow, and more. Thanks to Stephen Amell, we now have our first look at Arrow and Supergirl together in a teaser photo for Arrow's 100th episode, which is part of The CW's planned four-night crossover event.

I'm not really a big fan of Arrow, as I lost interest in the direction it was going after season three. I am still following it, but I just watch a new episode every now and them. I'm definitely not caught up, so I'll have to make sure to do that before Supergirl comes to Starling City.

It will be fun to see these two characters team up to help save the world.

charming-trailer-for-warren-beattys-howard-hughs-film-rules-dont-apply

Ever since I heard Warren Beatty was directing and starring in a film that centered around Howard Hughes I was interested in seeing what would come of it. Well, we've got a new full trailer for you to watch today that gives us our best look at the film yet, and it looks like a solid film that tells a charming story.

The movie stars Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) as an aspiring young actress, and Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) as her ambitious young driver. While they try to accomplish their dreams they have to put up with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire Howard Hughes, whom they work for.

The movie has an incredible supporting cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening, Haley Bennett, Candice Bergen, Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, Steve Coogan, Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris, Megan Hilty, Oliver Platt, and Martin Sheen. Here's the synopsis:

It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his 7th grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.

Rules Don't Apply will be released into theaters on November 23rd.

Fan-Made INDIANA JONES Animated Short Is Full of Adventure and Intrigue!

A couple weeks ago, we learned about an animated Indiana Jones fan film being created by artist Patrick Schoenmaker from the Netherlands. This got a lot of fans of the franchise excited, and now the short film is finally here for you to watch and enjoy! As you'll see it turned out pretty awesome!

The short is called "The Adventures of Indiana Jones," and it's the perfect thing to sate our Indiana Jones appetite while we wait for Lucasfilm, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford to make Indiana Jones 5.

The short was created in a way that would be used as an opening sequence introduction to an Indiana Jones animated series. Here's the description that came along with the short:

Famous archaeologist Dr. Indiana Jones is on a quest of a lifetime, but this time he is fully animated in this passion project by life long fan and artist Patrick Schoenmaker. Over the course of 5 years, he has crafted the opening sequence of what would be the tv series to make all other tv shows redundant: "The Adventures of Indiana Jones"!

I would love to see an animated Indiana Jones series like this! I'm surprised that it's never happened. I think it would do very well. When talking about the project, Schoenmaker explained:

"Indiana Jones must have been my first true movie hero ever since I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark on a VCR way back when. Yes, some other heroes came and went, but Indy always held a special place. After Crystal Skull was released, my love for the character was once again fully ignited and with no new movies on the horizon back then, I decided to set up an Indiana Jones project of my own to keep the fire burning a little bit longer. So, that was back in 2011 and 'a little bit longer' turned into 5 years of hard work."

Now, enjoy the fruits of his labor!

John Williams' SUPERMAN Score Added to SUPERGIRL Footage, and It's Perfect

You know what would make Supergirl an even better series? If they used the classic Superman musical score created by John Williams. A fan who goes by the name of JasonVoorhees2011 on YouTube, took the most recent clip of the series featuring Superman and Supergirl teaming up to save a spacecraft from crash landing on Earth and added Williams' score. The result is incredible and it takes the scene to a whole new level! It just shows how powerful music can be and how it can increase the level of intensity and awesomeness when it's done right.

New IMAX Poster and Trailer For JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK

Are you guys pumped for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back? I've seen reactions from readers ranging from delighted to dismissive, and I'm trying to get a sense of what the GeekTyrant crowd thinks about this one as we approach its release. I thought the first movie was fine, and I'm guessing I'll feel similarly about this one. From what I've seen so far, it looks like one of those films that I'll enjoy as I'm watching it but probably won't think too much about after I walk out of the theater.

Paramount has unveiled a new IMAX poster and trailer for the film, which features a lot of the same footage we've seen in other trailers coupled with some new stuff I hadn't seen before. I think the bit with Tom Cruise on the phone talking about how his opponent hears excitement in his voice is new, and I hope there's more stuff like that in the movie that the marketing hasn't revealed yet. I've grown a little weary of seeing that opening handcuff scene over and over again, but considering the alternative (that they spoil more of the film ahead of time by promoting a scene we haven't seen yet), I'll take that repetition any day of the week.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back hits theaters on October 21, 2016.

Put the pedal to the metal and check out this new video from our buddy Couch Tomato. This one presents evidence that, when you boil them down into basic story points, Speed and Mad Max: Fury Road are basically the same movie. But this isn't just a simple "good guy wins, bad guy loses" type of boiling down of the facts: this video, like all of the other "24 Reasons" pieces, digs into some weirdly specific similarities between the two projects. Enjoy!

Watch: Kevin James Mistaken For a Hitman in Netflix's TRUE MEMOIRS OF AN INTERNATIONAL ASSASSIN

Netflix has released the first trailer for True Memoirs of an International Assassin, the latest film starring Kevin James. Adam Sandler got a globe-spanning mistaken-identity movie on the streaming service earlier this year, so it's only fair if James gets one too.

James plays Sam Larson, a mild-mannered would-be author who gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. When the book is a huge success, he is suddenly kidnapped, taken out of the country, and forced into an assassination plot.

I rolled my eyes a lot during this trailer, but I will admit that this looks way better than Paul Blart, Zookeeper, Here Comes the Boom, or a lot of the other crap that James has been pumping out over the past few years. What do you think? Will you be checking this out? True Memoirs of an International Assassin hits Netflix on November 11, 2016.

Trailer: SLASH is a Film About Writers of Erotic Fan Fiction

Writers of erotic fan fiction, you now have your film. Slash looks to unmask that subculture, which I'm sure we are all well aware has been mocked by many, and give a face to the people who write those stories.

In the movie, Michael Johnston plays a teen who gets in trouble for his sexually explicit fan fiction he writes at school. He then meets a girl who tells him she loves his writing, and convinces him to attend a convention for writers of erotic fan-fiction.

The movie is a comedy, because how can it not be, but it appears to be a largely genuine look into the lives of people who write these books and do what we dare not even speak of. I really like the blending of real life and the fictional sequences! Slash arrives in theaters and on VOD on December 9, 2016.

Thanks to FirstShowing for bringing this to our attention.

See Benedict Cumberbatch Sing Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb"

If you've ever listened to a classic rock radio station, you're familiar with Pink Floyd's 1974 song "Comfortably Numb." But chances are extraordinarily high that you've never heard it with Benedict Cumberbatch on lead vocals. Thanks to Uproxx, you can change that by watching the video below, in which the Sherlock and Doctor Strange actor joins guitarist David Gilmour on stage and sings the verses, which used to be performed by bassist Roger Waters before Waters left the band. He does a pretty excellent imitation — if I weren't watching the video and seeing him do this with my own eyes, there's nothing in the vocal performance that would indicate it's Cumberbatch singing.

Oh come on, video, you're going to fade out during one of the greatest guitar solos of all time?! You're killin' me!

Update: An earlier version of this article stated that Roger Waters had passed away. That's not true — he's very much alive. I apologize and regret the error.

Mel Gibson In Talks To Star in Action Film EVERY OTHER WEEKEND

Mel Gibson is in talks to play a spy in the upcoming film Every Other Weekend. THR says the film is about a man who convinces his son he is a spy for the CIA but, in reality, works in their I.T. department. The father is exposed when the two get in a life-threatening situation in Paris, and I would assume things get crazier from there!

It's never explicitly stated in the article, but I would assume this film sounds a bit like a comedy? I'm not certain, I just don't see a film like this being super serious. The film title itself sounds like my dad's custody rights when I was growing up!

Gibson is specifically being eyed to play the grandfather, who is actually a spy. Right now no other details of casting are known. It would be cool to see Gibson back in another action role, don't you agree?

Video Essay Explores How Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) Represents a New Archetype of Entertainer

We've been on the Donald Glover/Childish Gambino hype train for a long time at GeekTyrant. I interviewed Glover and the rest of Derrick Comedy for their movie Mystery Team back in the day, and we've been listening to Gambino's albums here since his pre-Camp mixtapes. It's been awesome to see him emerge on the hip-hop scene and make an impact, and to watch him evolve as an artist and get his own FX TV series, Atlanta (which is great, by the way, and you all should watch it).

YouTuber KaptainKristian has put together a short video detailing how Glover represents a new kind of multi-hyphenate entertainer, and for those of you who only know Gambino through his music or Glover through his stand-up, this quick history should help paint a larger picture of his ambitions as a storyteller.

The first pictures from the untitled A.A. Milne (author of Winnie The Pooh) biopic are here. Take a look at them here and continue on below:

The film, which stars Domhnall Gleeson, focuses on Milne's relationship with his son Christopher Robin and the fame the family experienced post-WWI. In case you were wondering, yes, that's the same Christopher Robin about whom Milne wrote in his books, and Robin was teased unmercifully for it. Margot Robbie is also in this one, playing Milne's wife, Daphne.

No official release date has been set for the film as of yet, but TheFilmStage says to expect it out sometime in 2017.

The New MACGYVER Has One of The Dumbest Hacking Scenes of All Time

We've been preaching for awhile now that the new MacGyver series was bad, but we had no idea it was this bad. Like, so bad you see someone hack a computer by hitting it with a hammer. No, this isn't a joke...that is 100% what happens.

Disclaimer: I'm going to assume the video below this text will be deleted since it's on Reddit and CBS doesn't want its shame to spread, so they're gonna have it taken down. In anticipation of that, here's what happens:

A scientist is explaining what he needs to do to "hack" a certain computer.

A girl in an orange jumpsuit, presumably some kind of convict, runs up and smashes the computer with a hammer.

Convict: *holding up the hard drive of smashed computer* "Why interrogate a convict when you can just look inside her brain? We'll scan the data as 'read only' and then search the disc image to extract the key."

Scientist: *shocked and in awe* "Bypassing all the logic bombs..."

Convict: "I thought you said this was going to be hard?"

*MacGyver smirks in approval*

Guys, there are no words for this. Don't get me wrong, the original show was campy...but it never reached these levels of stupidity.

The CW Hero Crossover Will Have The Heroes Stopping An Alien Invasion

Looks like everyone's prediction of Flashpoint being the reason for The CW's major television crossover episode was wrong. io9 reports that the network's heroes will join forces to battle an alien race called The Dominators.

I'm a little disappointed. I don't see this being anything more than an all-out camp fest now, but I guess I shouldn't have expected anything different to begin with. The Dominators are your typical evil alien race, hellbent on human destruction...there's nothing really special about them. I'm guessing with the show's budget, we won't see more than about two or three of them...I can't hide it, guys — I'm super let down. Here's a picture of these goons.

So if you're wondering what the big crossover event will look like, just watch The Avengers. I'm gonna go violently weep into my pillow now.

Marvel and Netflix Release LUKE CAGE Opening Credits Sequence

Marvel's Luke Cage hits Netflix at midnight tonight, but if you're jonesing for any piece of content you can get from the upcoming series, the company has just released the show's opening credits sequence (without any of the actual credits) online for all to see:

Cool, I guess? I'm legitimately not trying to be contrarian or dismissive, but I feel like this opening apes the look of so many other things that have come before it. And for the music to be such a big part of the show, the track that's playing underneath these shots doesn't really do much for me. I'm sure the show will be well-received, but if I end up tuning in, I'll probably end up skipping these credits and just diving straight into each episode instead of luxuriating in the credits like I do with shows like Game of Thrones and Stranger Things.

Netflix Will Release Duncan Jones' MUTE in Theaters and Online

$

We've been looking forward to Duncan Jones' new science fiction movie, Mute, ever since he first mentioned the concept publicly. The project is finally filming now, and star Alexander Skarsgard revealed on the Empire podcast that Netflix will be giving the movie a theatrical release and putting it online at the same time.

“I think they’ll do what they did with Beasts Of No Nation,” he tells Empire, "where they do a theatrical simultaneously to a Netflix release. I’ve just got back from Dublin where Duncan showed me all the renderings and the visuals of it and I’m very, very excited about it."

Here's the synopsis:

Berlin. Forty years from today. A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca. Leo Beiler (Alexander Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Paul Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.

Empire says the project actually takes place thirty years in the future, not forty, so that little detail may have changed since this synopsis was written. Skarsgard also gave a little hint about his character:

"It’s about a guy who was in an accident as a kid. He’s ex-Amish, so he lives a very monastic life: he doesn’t have a cellphone or anything like that. He’s left the [Amish] community but he still kinda follows the rules."

I don't remember ever hearing about the ex-Amish aspect of this production, but that definitely explains these recent photos from the past few days on Jones' Twitter page:

As usual, a limited release likely means that audiences in big cities like Los Angeles and New York will definitely be able to see the movie in theaters, and for a project like this that sounds so visually striking, I'm hoping people will take the opportunity to seek it out on the big screen rather than stay at home and checking it out that way. Read more about the film and its connection to Jones' 2009 film Moon right here.

How Much Would You Pay For Batman's Batsuit and Batpod?

$
0
0

Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy was largely loved by fandom (well, at least the first two movies), coming out in a more innocent time before things splintered so drastically into DC vs. Marvel camps. I assume there are a lot of you out there who dig those movies, and rightly so: they're pretty great (again...The Dark Knight Rises, not so much). So how much would you pay for Christian Bale's Batsuit from the last two movies and the Batpod from The Dark Knight Rises?

The Prop Store, a U.K. company that auctions off movie props, sold both of those items earlier this week for pretty steep prices. The Batsuit went for $250,000, while someone else purchased the Batpod — one that doesn't actually function, mind you — for $406,184. That's nearly three quarters of a million dollars total. Man, the love for The Dark Knight runs deep in the fan community. Do you think they overbid on these items, or does that cost sound about right to you?

Looks Like Zack Snyder May Have Confirmed Deathstroke For JUSTICE LEAGUE

$

Justice League director Zack Snyder recently posted a photo of himself working on some storyboards on his tablet while wearing one of Batman's gauntlets. The DC Extended Universe Twitter feed took the photo and enhanced the image of the tablet to see what exactly Snyder is working on. They managed to enhance it to the point where we clearly see that he's working on a scene involving Deathstroke.

When Ben Affleck released some teaser footage of Joe Manganiello in the Deathstroke costume, a lot of fans assumed that he would be in the upcoming Batman solo film, and I'm sure he will be. But seeing Snyder working on storyboards with the character in them, tells us there's a solid chance that Deathstroke will appear in the Justice League movie in some capacity. He could be part of the story or he could just be included in a post-credits scene.

CB speculates that this could be a meeting between Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor and Deathstroke in which Luthor is hiring him to take out Batman and/or the entire Justice League team. As you can see, one of the characters is wearing an eye patch and the other one is bald.

We'll just have to wait and see what the scene entails and how it will play out until we see the movie. Deathstroke is a great character and his addition to the film would be welcomed by fans.
