Creepy Real Life LEGO Minifig-Inspired Cosplay

$

0

This real life minifig-inspired cosplay is stupidly terrifying. It’s just so wrong on so many levels, but it’s also so right! It comes from Tested and it’s the stuff that nightmares are made of. The creators of it are calling it creepyfig, which is very fitting.

Our latest project with Frank Ippolito lives at the intersection of creepy and amazing. For this year’s Comic-Con, Frank designed, sculpted, and painted LEGO-inspired mask, made to look like a real-life version of a minifig. We’re calling it the creeppyfig, and it found its way home wandering through Comic-Con’s exhibit hall.

Rare 1983 Japanese Documentary Focuses on a Young Steven Spielberg

If you’re a fan of director Steven Spielberg, you’ve got to watch this rare 1983 Japanese documentary! I happened to see a link to AICN on my Facebook feed for this hour-long doc and it’s one of the coolest and most interesting things I’ve seen on the internet this week.

The doc gives us a look at Spielberg’s early directing career, shortly after he made Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T. The year the doc was shot, the director was working on The Twilight Zone Movie.

Spielberg allows the documentary crew to tour his home, offices, and they were even allowed on the set of The Twilight Zone. The doc also gives you a look at a personal, candid side of Spielberg that many people probably haven’t seen before. It’s a very intimate look at the legendary filmmaker as he’s still in the early stages of finding success in his early career.

It’s a completely fascinating video to watch, and you’ve gotta check it out when you get a chance!

Prime 1 Studios has released the first official photos and details of their Batman statue based on Mark Millar’s comic The Dark Knight Returns. This is probably the most badass statue I’ve seen of Batman! It stands at 33” tall and it is priced at $969. There are no details on when it will be available for order yet.

It will comes with two interchangeable heads, several hands that you can switch up, and it features as assorted arsenal of weapons. There’s also an exclusive version of the statue that will include an additional interchangeable head sculpt as well as an additional hand holding multiple Batarangs.

Here’s the description:

MMDC-17 DARK KNIGHT RETURNS BATMAN
“You don’t get it boy… this isn’t a mudhole… its an operating table. (KRAKKKKK) And I’m the surgeon.”
Prime 1 Studio is proud to present to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the most influential stories ever told in the comics medium of the undisputed graphic novel masterpiece MMDC-17 BATMAN:THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.
Frank Miller completely reinvents the legend of Batman in this saga of a near-future Gotham City gone to rot,10 years after the Dark Knight’s retirement. Forced to take action, the Dark Knight returns in a blaze of fury, taking on a whole new generation of criminals and matching their level of violence. He is soon joined by a new Robin girl named Carrie Kelley, who proves to be just as invaluable as her predecessors.
But can Batman and Robin deal with the threat posed by their deadliest enemies,
after years of incarceration have turned them into perfect psychopaths? And more important, can anyone survive the coming fallout from an undeclared war between the superpowers or the clash of what were once the world’s greatest heroes?

10 Hilariously Inappropriate Toys Based on Movies

Sometimes the people who come up with ideas for tie-in movie toys and consumer products have some pretty crazy brain farts. SreenRant has released a video that points out ten crazy toys and other consumer products that are ridiculously inappropriate and some of them are pretty damn funny. Some of the products on the list include the Jar-Jar Lollipop, RoboCop Board Game, Harry Potter Vibrating Broom, C-3PO Tape Dispenser, Buzz Lightyear Sippy Cup, and more. Here’s the description that came along with the video:

Studios are constantly looking for ways to maximize the profits of a popular film property, and one of the most common routes they take is licensing tie-in merchandise. This allows fans to take a part of the movie home with them, even when it’s playing in theaters. While some items – like the ever-expanding collection of Star Wars action figures – are a no-brainer, not every piece of memorabilia is as great as it sounds on paper. Over the years, there have been some yebrow raising products that stirred up plenty of controversy, and once you watch this video, you’ll be able to understand why

For some reason, I’ve found myself buying more and more geek-inspired backpacks recently. I just come across so many that I like that I have to buy them! They’ve definitely come in handy with all the conventions I attend throughout the year and all the traveling I do. Now I’ve got a new one that I’ve got to get! This is the Marvel x MadPax Spider-Man Backpack. It is available through ThinkGeek and it comes with the following description:

Spider-Man is our kind of superhero. Nerdy, shy, a little bit awkward, but great with gadgets, and fighting the good fight. Fortunately, you don't have to come in contact with a radioactive arachnid (or even a spider of any kind) to pay tribute to Peter Parker with this Spider-Man backpack.
This Marvel x MadPax Spiderman Backpack holds everything required for your secret identity, like your Daily Bugle badge, your camera, and your tablet for taking notes. You can throw whatever you need in here, which is useful because there aren't pockets in Spidey's costume (unless it's Rob Liefeld's Spidey, but we're going to just pretend like that didn't happen). Hey, look! A backpack!

The backpack can be purchased here for $84.99.

The Coolest and Craziest Japanese Raman Noodles Commercials You’ll Ever See

I’ve got a couple of Japanese commercials here for you to watch created for Nissan Foods Ramen Noodles. These are the most badass Ramen commercials you’ll ever see. The commercials are being released as a way to celebrate the company’s 58th anniversary and they will apparently be rolling out a series of these commercials.

The first commercial is called "The Originator." It’s awesomely animated and features Ramen-creator Momofuku Ando as a samurai warrior and it gives us the origin story of ramen. The second one is called “Instant Buzz” and it’s wildly strange. It centers on a schoolgirl who dresses up as a Samurai and goes chasing after a flying drone after it flew into her home and stole her Ramen. It starts pretty normal but then escalates into absolute craziness.

Screen Gems has released a very brief promo spot for Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Apparently, this will be the last film in the long-running franchise. The teaser is basically promoting the release date of a full trailer coming on Tuesday, August 9th. Even though it's brief, it still offers us our first footage from the film and it features Milla Jovovich as Alice riding a motorcycle into a hail of gunfire and explosions. It's a pretty cool little shot! I also included a photo released by EW

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella's impending attack, this will be Alice's most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

The movie also stars Ali Larter as Claire RedfieldIain Glen as Dr. Alexander IsaacsShawn Roberts as Albert WeskerRuby Rose as Abigail, Eoin Macken as Doc, William Levy as Christian, Fraser James as Michael, and Japanese model Rola, as Cobalt.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be released in January 2017.

The Undead Rises in Batman and Catwoman Zombie Fan Art

Ali Jalali is a CG sculpture and character artist who created this dark and eerie version of Batman as a zombie. He appropriately calls the piece The Undead Rises and it looks terrifying. The piece was created for a Comic-Con 2016 challenge in which artists were tasked with turning superheroes into zombies. I also included a great piece created by artist Anna Lakisova for the challenge that features Catwoman as a zombie as well.

You Can Really Buy a Box of Marshmallow-Only Cereal!

One of my favorite cereals growing up was Lucky Charms, and when I was a kid I would always make sure each bite I took was filled with Marshmallows. I was always getting yelled at by my parents for not eating the healthy part of the cereal, but those dehydrated mallows were so damn good!

Now you can actually buy a box of marshmallow-only cereal! How ridiculous and awesome is that!? It’s called Marshmallow Madness, and you can by it online. There are 16 oz boxes for $22, bags for $11 and a 40 lb case for $164

That’s expensive! I’ll just stick to spending $4 on a box of Lucky Charms and picking the marshmallows out.

If you want to check out some more awesome cosplay from this year's San Diego Comic-Con, we’ve got another cosplay music video for you to check out. This one comes from Aggressive Comix and there’s some pretty awesome cosplay featured in it. My favorite is the 1980s style He-Man group cosplay. There was a lot of great cosplay this year and it’s crazy that so many people braved the hellish heat of San Diego as they wore their costumes. Enjoy the video!

Artist Nabetse Zitro recently watched the Batman: The Killing Joke animated film and after he saw it he said he was inspired to create this piece of fan art. I’ve always loved the look of Batgirl. She was always such a cool and beautifully designed character and this fan art captures everything that I like about the character.

This year, fans are celebrating 50 years of Star Trek greatness! In honor of the iconic franchise, Burger Fiction has released a video supercut called The Evolution of Star Trek in Television and Film (50 Years of Trek - 1966-2016)

Star Trek turns 50! AND Star Trek Beyond is here! So how about the ultimate Star Trek supercut with clips from every Star Trek movie and show? Sounds great to us.

It’s pretty cool to see how far Star Trek has come over the years and how the franchise has changed and evolved. My favorite series in the franchise is Star Trek: The Next Generation because that’s the series that I grew up watching. My favorite film is Wrath of Khan because it is a sci-fi masterpiece.

STAR WARS Lightsaber Hooks Will Burn a Hole in Your Wall

$

I’ve never had a proper place to hang my Jedi Robe in my home. Maybe that’s because I’ve never seen a Star Wars-inspired lightsaber hook before that would do the trick. There’s one for Darth Vader’s lightsaber and one for Luke Skywalker's. Each other looks like they are burning a hole in your wall, but they’re priced not to burn a hole in your wallet. You can purchase them here for only $24.99!

You've owned a lightsaber for a while now. Maybe you first felt the pull of the Force when you were a wee geek, or maybe you found your path later in life. There's one thing that we've all noticed: while we're trained in lightsaber combat, we actually haven't had to use our skills in real battle in decades. The galaxy has been largely safe from attack. Oh, and last we checked, the armed services weren't accepting recruits trained solely in lightsaber usage. Yeah, we checked.
So what to do with that dusty old lightsaber? Why not turn it into a useful tool for your home? You're always looking for someplace to hang your robes, right? Now hang them in style on these Star Wars Lightsaber Wall Hooks. The set includes the hilts of Luke and Vader's lightsabers which mount on an angled bracket that makes it look as if they've been driven into the wall. To reinforce the illusion, each comes with an 11" tall sticker that makes your wall look like it has a burning gash in it.

Beautiful Photos From Terry Gilliam’s THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE Location Shoot

It looks like director Terry Gilliam is actually finally going to attempt to make his passion project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. He’s spent the last 18 years trying to bring this story to life on the big screen and he has already done his location scouting. Thanks to Indiewire, we have a collection of beautiful photos showing off the locations where Gilliam plans on shooting the film. Those locations include Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands.

The film stars Adam Driver, Michael Palin, Olga Kurylenko, Stellan Skarsgård, and Joana Ribeiro and the director is scheduled to start production on October 4th. It’s so great that Gilliam never gave up on this project and that he kept pushing forward through hell to get to this point. Hopefully, it’s worth the wait and he delivers something incredible.

It would be such a shame if after going through everything that he went through that it ended up being a disappointment. I’ve enjoyed all of Gilliam's films, though. The guy is one of the most unique and insane filmmakers out there and I’m sure he’ll give us something that we’ve never seen before. I included a story description for the film below the photos:

There was a time when Toby was a young film student full of ideals. So he decided to shoot a film adapted from the story of Don Quixote in a pretty Spanish village.
But those days are gone and now Toby is an arrogant publicist, libidinous and jaded. Money and glitter have corrupted him, and while he is in Spain where he finishes filming an ad, he has to juggle with his boss’s wife – Jacqui – a calamitous weather, and his own ego. This is when a mysterious gypsy comes to find him with an old copy of his student film: Toby is upset and decides to go in search of a little village where he had made his first work a long time ago. He discovers with horror that his little film has had terrible effects on this quiet place. Angelica, the girl full of innocence, became a high-class call girl; and the old man who played Don Quixote lost his mind, convinced in his delusion of being the real “Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance.”
A series of incidents lead to a fire that threatens to destroy the village. Wanted by the police, Toby is “saved” by the old fool who takes him for his faithful squire Sancho, and drives on the roads in search of his perfect wife, Dulcinea.
During this journey, Toby will face demons, real and imaginary, modern and medieval. Damsels will be saved, jousts will be completed, and giants will be killed!
Reality and fantasy merge in this strange journey, until a spooky ending.

10 Superheroes Whose Powers Would Suck to Have in Real Life

Ever since I was a kid, I always thought about how cool it would be to have superpowers. It’s one of those things I always used to think about and imagine when I was a kid. Maybe some superpowers that we thought would be awesome to have wouldn’t be so great, especially after watching this video from ScreenRant. It breaks down ten superpowers that would suck to have in real life.

Growing up, pretty much all of us wanted to be superheroes at some point. Whether we yearned for the strength of the Hulk, the speed of Quicksilver, the healing powers of Wolverine, or something else entirely, the idea of using crazy abilities to fight evil and earn the adulation and adoration of the masses is something that has almost undoubtedly appealed to everybody. However, some superpowers really wouldn’t be as great as they’re depicted as being in comic books, in the ovies and on television. In fact, some would undoubtedly be more of a burden than a blessing. With that in mind, here are 10 superheroes whose powers would suck in real life.

DOCTOR STRANGE Gets a Cinemark XD Promo Spot - “A New Reality”

Marvel has released the first promo spot for Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange. The spot is part of a cross-promotion with Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema. It looks like there are a couple of brief new shots from the film in the spot.

One of the reasons why I’m so excited for this film is because it’s going to take the MCU to places we’ve never seen before, like the dark and supernatural cosmic realm. This movie is going to be the strangest and most mind-bending Marvel film we will have experienced so far, and I can’t wait to see what exactly Derrickson has done with these characters.

When famous neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) suffers career-ending injuries in a devastating car crash, he seeks help in the furthest reaches of the world! Hoping to find cures for his injuries, Strange instead uncovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

The cast also features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton. Doctor Strange will be released in theaters on Novemeber 4th, 2016.
