Universal is aiming high when it comes to casting for its monster movie cinematic universe. They've already either officially signed or approached Tom Cruise for The Mummy, Russell Crowe for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Johnny Depp for The Invisible Man, and now Variety reports that the studio is eyeing Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem for their remake of Frankenstein.

The trade reports that Bardem is "in talks to star as Frankenstein," but it's unclear if they mean he's being eyed for the role of Frankenstein's monster or the doctor himself. This casting apparently came about when Universal initially approached him about playing Dr. Jekyll, but he ended up turning down the part and Crowe stepped in to take that role. Bardem has the ability to turn on a super charming screen presence, but as he showed in No Country For Old Men, he can also easily play a sociopathic, ice-cold killer with no remorse. It'll be interesting to see which role he ends up playing here, because he's clearly capable of either one.

Variety reminds us that Universal is developing a Bride of Frankenstein movie, but their "sources indicate that Bardem's Frankenstein would likely appear in another monster movie first." The studio is modeling their monster movie cinematic universe after Marvel Studios' successful creation of their own comic-book based film universe, with Crowe's Jekyll appearing in Cruise's Mummy movie (which is reportedly almost finished shooting). I suppose there's time for Bardem to film a quick cameo in The Mummy if the ink dries on his contract, but it's unclear where we'll first see Bardem's Frankenstein (or Frankenstein's monster) pop up.

A couple of years ago, we wrote about a version of John Williams' classic Imperial March song from Star Wars that was recreated using eight floppy disk drives. How someone figured out how to do that is absolutely beyond my comprehension, but now YouTuber Paweł Zadrożniak has topped that by creating a new video that kicks off with Williams' Star Wars theme song and transitions into the Imperial March, all using 64 floppy disk drives, eight hard drives, and two scanners. Just a few days ago, I started to feel a pang of nostalgia for Community, Dan Harmon's late, great meta sitcom. Sure, it had arguably nearly as many bad seasons as good ones, but man, those good seasons contained some of my favorite episodes of television ever made. I loved the characters, the insane riffs on genre, the terrific dialogue, and the endless pop culture references. At times it felt like it was made just for me, and I'm sure everyone out there feels that way about one particular show.

I had sort of written off the idea of the long-hyped Community movie ever happening (#sixseasonsandamovie), but now Harmon says that not only will it eventually happen, but it'll be "great" when it does. In typical Harmonian fashion, though, he embraces the negative aspects before shining a ray of hopeful positivity on the situation in this interview with Larry King:

Comic-Con International has released the panel schedules for Saturday, July 23rd and Sunday, July 24th. Saturday is the biggest day at the event and there's a ton of stuff going on that you won't want to miss! We've got the Warner Bros. panel, who always puts on an amazing show; Marvel Studios is returning with Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; there's the Aliens 30th anniversary reunion panel; Gotham, The Flash, Supergirl, Ash Vs. Warner Bros. has unveiled their Comic-Con panel lineup, and it includes some exciting upcoming movies. WB always puts on a great show at the convention, and they go all out to make sure fans leave happily impressed. 

The Warner Bros. panel is set to take place on Saturday, July 23rd from 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM and the lineup includes films such as Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, The Lego Batman Movie, and Fantastic Beasts. Each of the panels will include the talented individuals involved with making each movie. 

Conan O’ Brien is moderating it all, and this is the list of movies and stars you can expect to see:

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen and director Patty Jenkins.

I’m looking forward to see what exactly they have in store for us this year. You can bet they are going to show off some footage from each of the films that they will be brining to the event and who knows, maybe they’ll even surprise fans with a little tease of Justice League.

Have you ever wanted to see Kurt Russell’s Snake Plissken from Escape from New York team up with Kurt Russell’s Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China in an adventure? Well, thanks to Boom! Studios, that's actually happening! 

The comic book publisher is developing a six-part comic book crossover, and it has the full approval of John Carpenter, who directed both films. The comic comes from writer Greg Pak and artist Daniel Bayliss and the image above is our first look at the art in the series. 

According to EW, the basic plot of the film follows Jack Burton time traveling from 1986 to dystopian future of 1997 where he will meet Snake Plissken. I never thought I’d see the day were two classic Kurt Russell movie characters meet, but thanks to the imaginations of fans in the comic book industry, it’s happening!

I’m excited to see how this actually turns out and what they do with these characters. The concept is so crazy it makes me wish that Deadpool could be thrown into the mix. The question remains… with they be friends or foes? Whatever the cast is, I imagine they’ll eventually have to team up to fight some big bad villain who could be Duke, Lo Pan, or both? 

So many questions! But every one of the possibilities is awesome! I can’t wait to check this out!

Suicide Squad is packed full of villains. In fact, it will take a team of them to join forces to stop an evil threat. We’ve already learned that one of the villains that Task Force X will be taking on is The Enchantress. There’s even a side story revolving around The Joker who is after Harley Quinn as they are trying to hunt down the witch. There’s even more to the story than that, though. Potential spoilers ahead:

According to ComicBook.com there’s another big villainous threat who will appear in the movie. That villain is being called The Adversary, and there’s not much info on who it is, but it’s apparently not a part of the comics. The character is described as a “Cthulu-type Old Gods monster.” Producer Richard Suckle teased The Adversary like this:

"Oh, you will find out who the Adversary is. That is for sure. You will find out not only who the Adversary is but why they exist, who is part and parcel and who is behind them. You definitely find that out in this movie for sure."

Producer Andy Horwtz added:

"There's multiple adversaries that the Squad has to contend with over the course of the movie of which the Joker is one of them.”

The report goes on to say that due to her magical abilities, The Enchantress is able to get close to The Adversary, “close enough to then be possessed or controlled by him in some way.” As you’ve seen in the trailer, the team will also be fighting those nasty looking soldiers called the "Eyes of the Adversary" throughout the film. It’s explained:

“Those soldiers had their own hint as to the nature of the beast, with patches on their shoulders that said "Escort to Darkness" and showed a tentacle reaching up out of the ground below the writing.”

I don’t have anymore information than that. They are obviously holding back that information for a surprise, which is cool. It’s nice to go into movies not knowing everything!  

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5th, 2016.

This past weekend GeekTyrant posted a positive review for the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. I have yet to see the movie myself, but Ben obviously enjoyed it and shared his enthusiasm with our readers.

For some reason, his positive review sparked an uprising of people accusing us of being paid off by the studio for a positive review. The same thing happened when I wrote a positive review for Warcraft. 

Can’t a movie fan just enjoy a movie anymore? If we don’t jump in on the bandwagon of hate, all of a sudden we are accused of being paid off by the studio? I’ve said time and time again that if we were paid to write good reviews for films I would be a rich man, but alas, I’m not. 

I have heard rumors about studios paying websites to write positive reviews for movies back in the day, but not anymore. As far as video games go, though, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment recently got hit with a settlement after The US Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint that WB gave YouTube game reviewers “cash payments often ranging from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars” for the 2014 game Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

GeekTyrant has never received any payment from any movie studio to write a positive review. If anyone did want to pay us to write a positive review for a product, we talked it over this past weekend and decided that the going rate is $10 million.

If you’ve been reading the site for awhile then you know you can trust us. If you are new to the site, then now you know how we do business and that we actually care about our audience and gaining their trust. In the end, it’s all about doing what we love to do and having fun being geeks.

Earlier this year there was a strong tease that Colin Firth’s Harry Hart would return for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. That came in the form of a teaser poster that said:

“Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

Firth is currently on the set of the film shooting, and a photo released on Pedro Pascale’s Instagram account confirms it. So Harry Hart has indeed somehow been brought back from the dead. It will be interesting to learn the details of his death and how exactly he really didn’t die. 

All we know about the story for the sequel at this point is that it involves an attack on Kingsman HQ, and Eggsy and Merlin head to the United States to enlist the help of the Statesman, which is an American spy organization.

The cast also includes Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Elton John, Channing Tatum, and Vinnie Jones.

20th Century Fox will release the film on June 16th, 2017.

There are several unique aspects of Suicide Squad that we haven’t really seen done in a comic book movie before. One is that, obviously, the film focuses on a team of villains. Another thing is that Batman is in the movie, but he’s not the main character. Almost every time we’ve seen Batman in a movie, he’s been the focus of attention. This will be the first movie he's in where he's not.

I’m really curious to see how exactly the Dark Knight is handled in this story, but while we wait, director David Ayer teases what we can look forward to. He explains in an interview with Collider:

"There’s a lot of information out there, a lot of false information about how these characters play into the A plot. It’s an incredibly complex story with flashbacks and different convergent storylines and things like that."

The site says that they saw a piece of concept art of Deadshot's cell with "Die Bat" written across the walls. Deadshot clearly isn’t a fan of Batman, whose presence will be felt heavily in the film. It just won’t be in the way we’ve seen him before. Ayer explains that the character will seen from the point of view of the villains in the film and that they are pretty much terrified of him. 

"All the Batman movies have been from Batman’s point of view. He’s the good guy. He’s the hero of his own movie in all the movies we’ve seen. If you look at what Bruce Wayne has done in creating the Batman persona, his idea was to terrorize criminals. It’s sort of psychological warfare against criminals. This wraith that comes in the night and attacks and pulls criminals from society. For the first time, we’re seeing Batman from the point of view of the criminals and he’s freaking scary." 

We have already seen a few bits and pieces of Batman in the trailers for the film. He’s hanging on the top of The Joker's car, and he dives in some water to save Harley Quinn. There’s a lot more meat to his role in the film, though. Ayer says:

"We have had some material exposed by virtue of being out on the streets and working out on the streets, but it’s a sliver. It’s a fragment and it’s all out of context. For me it’s a lot of fun just to see how people try and assemble these pieces because in their minds, they’re a much larger piece of the film than they’re actually saying. But it takes days and days to shoot a scene so it’s how does all this fit together? That’s the big surprise." 

Well, I can’t wait for the big surprise! We’ll find out what that is when Suicide Squad is released on August 5th. Everything that I’ve seen and heard regarding the film has been exciting, and it all seems to be building up to something spectacular!

I don’t now if you’ve heard of a company called Saberforge or not, but they create some pretty awesome custom lightsabers. I came across one that they posted recently that I had to share. 

This is called the Frost Lotus, and as you can see it was heavily inspired by R2-D2. Here are the specs that were posted with the photo:

This is just such a beautifully crafted and cool lightsaber design.

Warner Bros. has released the first official synopsis for DC Entertainment's upcoming big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman. I really liked how the character was portrayed in Batman v Superman, and it got me really excited to see the solo film that director Patty Jenkins is currently working on. 

The studio is bringing the film to Comic-Con where they are sure to show off some new footage from the film to get fans excited. While we wait to see what exactly they'll show off, you can read the synopsis for the film below, which reveals a few plot details and also that the script was written by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns.

Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston. 

So far, the small amount of footage that I've seen from the movie has looked great. I can't wait to see more at Comic-Con! We'll be there covering the event, so stay tuned for details! The film is scheduled to be released on June 2nd, 2017.

A bunch of new photos have surfaced from the Atlanta set of Spider-Man: Homecoming featuring your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man hanging around and even riding a bike. This movie has got a lot of fans excited. Marvel seems to have picked a great actor to take on the role, and it looks like we can expect great things from Tom Holland, especially with director Jon Watts at the helm. 

During a recent interview with IGN, Rothman explained how nobody knows Spider-Man as well as Marvel:

“Here’s the thing I can tell you: We’re really, really fortunate on this because Marvel and Kevin Feige have really embraced the character, and nobody knows it as well as Marvel.  It is another crown jewel of Sony’s for sure.”

He went on to talk about what Spider-Man: Homecoming’s title really means and teased a scene that he's seen in the process:

“It’s relevant to the story because it takes place in high school and there is a scene — that I guess I can give a little thing — at a homecoming dance. I’ve actually seen the dailies of it because we already did the high school shooting of it in the first couple weeks. It’s fantastic! But it’s also a homecoming to Marvel. And a homecoming to the cinematic universe that Spider-Man belongs in. So it’s a pretty unprecedented deal between two studios, but we’re really proud of it. And all I can tell you is, those guys at Marvel — I think the technical term is — they know their shit.”

As you all know by now, Robert Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role of Tony Stark in the film. This is something that fans are very excited about because of how their relationship started in Captain America: Civil War. When asked about the importance of Tony Stark's role in the film, he said:

“It’s very important. It’s wonderful commercially, but that’s not why. You can see the beginnings of the relationship that was established in Civil War, so it was very important from a character part of the story, and I think fans will really be rewarded by the character growth between them.”

It's gonna be fun seeing those two characters back together again! Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7th, 2017. Check out the latest set photos below:

I have spent the past 8 years working, writing, and building GeekTyrant. A German Star Trek fan by the name of Jürgen Kaiser spent the last eight years making a 58-minute stop-motion Star Trek: Enterprise fan film. That's some badass dedication to something he loves! 

The film he made is called The Begining of the End, and he says it cost him "about as much as a midsize car" to make it. He also managed to bring on 37 volunteers to help him make the film that included professional voice actors, 3D artists, programmers, and the right software to create fluid movements.

In the story, the crew of the Enterprise returns to a mission in another timeline, and there they encounter chaos by a group of villains who were created using Terminator action figures. The creator says that "the Enterprise needs to return as soon as possible to Earth because there's a big battle happening there too." There's a fun surprise twist near the end.

You'll have to watch the film to get the whole story, but it's definitely worth it. The guy did a great job making this film with his team. Check it out below and tell us what you think! The whole think is in German, but there are English subtitles.

Here's the first trailer and poster for Jeff Nichols' Loving, a powerful new drama that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has the makings of a major awards contender. It stars Joel Edgerton (Warrior) and Ruth Negga (Preacher) as real-life interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, who battled discrimination and hatred in order to stay together.

Nichols is the talented filmmaker behind Take Shelter, Mud, and Midnight Special, and this looks like his most wrenching film yet. Loving hits limited theaters on November 4 and will expand wide as the month progresses.

From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry - and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since.

Did you buy a pair of those Hulk hands when they seemed to be all the rage a few years ago? Well, Mark Ruffalo, The Incredible Hulk himself, is here to put all of those puny store-bought Hulk hands to shame. This morning, he tweeted a video of himself from the set of Thor: Ragnarok in which he's rockin' some mega-sized Hulk hands that are actually more like Hulk arms. It looks like he has to get a running start to even be able to wield those things in a fight. I wonder if those are just a gag, or if those are actually the props he's using on the set? If it's the latter, I'm definitely looking forward to watching some behind the scenes featurettes for this movie, because I imagine the fights are going to look very silly, in the best possible way.

The Hulk will play a major role in Thor: Ragnarok, which is filming now and slated to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
