he-man-and-thundercats-will-crossover-in-new-comic-series-for-dc1

He-Man and Thundercats were two of the greatest things to come out of the '80s! I used to have a bunch of actions figures for each of them that I would create my own crossover adventures. Well, now it’s happening for real! DC Comics is launching a crossover comic series that will feature the popular toy and cartoon franchises together for the first time!

He-Man/Thundercats will be a six-issue limited series that will be penned by Mattel Head Writer and Masters of the Universe Lead Creative Rob David and Supervising Producer Lloyd Goldfine with art by Freddie E. Williams II, who recently worked on the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover comic.

Thanks to CBR, we have a plot description that gives some info on what to expect:

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe team up with the ThunderCats—the epic crossover event you’ve waited thirty years to see! In his ever-living desire to destroy the mighty ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra quests for a weapon that can rival the legendary Sword of Omens: He-Man’s Sword of Power! But his dimension-spanning scheme kick starts a cataclysmic crisis that will embroil heroes and villains—Masters, Mutants and ThunderCats—in a mind-blowing six-part saga!

In a statement, David spoke to the fans:

”For everyone out there who took different action figures and teamed them up to take on the world, this one’s for you.” Goldfine added, "Writing this crossover event is the thrill of a lifetime, and Rob and I can’t wait to get started...You don’t wait 30 years and not go big!"

As someone who has very fond memories of playing with these toys, this comic book crossover is one of the coolest things that could possibly happen! Williams added:

"The Power of Grayskull and the Great Eye of Thundera have aligned to make me the luckiest guy on all the earths! He-Man and ThunderCats were my life when I was in grade school—family and friends knew I loved both cartoons so much. I used to pause episodes and draw from them, since they were so awesome. The He-Man/ThunderCats crossover is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal and my fanboy dream come true! I'm having a blast!"

There’s no doubt this comic series is going to be awesome because it’s being made by the fans for the fans. These are also very talented individuals bringing the story to life for us. The image you see above gives us a first look at what is to come in October when He-Man/Thundercats #1 is released.

SUICIDE SQUAD International Trailer Comes with More New Footage

Warner Bros. turned up the marketing madness for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad last week, and this week we start off with a great new international trailer. The trailer shows off a few bits of new footage from the film that are worth checking out.

It’s been fun seeing the excitement grow for this film since the first trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con last year. In that time the hype for it has exploded, and people’s expectations are set pretty high. Ayer has said in a previous interview that he’s feeling the pressure:

“Two years ago Suicide Squad was a tertiary [DC property]. No one knew anything about it. It was a cool little playground, and I was going to go make my movie. Now it’s like the hype bus. All of the attention has swung onto it, and it has to carry a lot more weight than it was ever intended to. I think it can sustain it. But it’s a lot of pressure. You definitely feel the pressure.”

From what I’ve seen it looks like he’s managed to pull off something special with this film. The story follows a team of villains who are tasked with finding and taking down The Enchantress. Then of course, there is the Joker with his own agenda, who makes things difficult for them as he’s trying to reunite Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th, and I can’t wait!

Mike Judge Says BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD Could Return One Day in Live-Action

I have enjoyed the projects that Mike Judge has been a part of since his days at MTV with Beavis and Butt-Head. He's currently the brains behind one of the funniest shows on TV, HBO's Silicon Valley. It was Beavis and Butt-Head that really launched his career, though, and it was a show I really enjoyed watching back in the '90s. It was just such perfect timing for a show like that. It ended in 1997 and was brought back briefly in 2011. It doesn't sound like Judge is done with these two knucklehead characters as he has been thinking about the possibility of doing a live-action revival.

During an interview with the Radio Times, Judge said, "Maybe it could be a live-action someday.” I've gotta say, that would be interesting. The two characters were voiced by Judge himself back in the day. He didn't offer any ideas of who he would cast in the roles, but he did suggest to them that Beavis is probably homeless by now, which makes sense. It would be pretty funny if Butt-Head ended up being ultra-successful? I don't know how that would happen, but it would be amusing.

There's no indication that this revival would actually happen, but the fact Judge is out there talking about it and sharing his ideas is a sign that maybe one day it could happen if there's a demand for it. As a fan of the show growing up, I would love to see it happen. I'm incredibly curious to see what these two characters would be like in a live action series.

First Look at Sofia Boutella as THE MUMMY in Universal's Monster Movie Reboot

Some new photos from the set of Universal Picture's reboot of The Mummy have surfaced, and these give us our first look at Sofia Boutella in the role of the classic monster. She has some mummy type elements in her design with the bandages and stuff, but it's not the full-on hardcore terrifying mummy look from the original film. It doesn't look bad, it's just different, and who knows what kind of CGI elements they will add to the character during post-production. The completed version of the character is sure to look better than what we're seeing here, but we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, check out the photos below and let us know what you think of the look.

Tom Cruise stars in the movie, which is being directed by Alex Kurtzman. I'm really hoping that this new wave of classic monster movie reboots from Universal turn out to be decent. I'm such a huge fan of these monsters, and I'd hate to see their legacy tarnished with new bad movies. Here's the synopsis:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is also joined by Annabelle Wallis (Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, Annabelle), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), and Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson). Russell Crowe has joined the cast as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

Universal's monster cinematic universe also includes The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing, all of which are in various stages of development. The Mummy is set to be released on June 9th, 2017.

Fun Trailer for Dan Harmon's Animated Dungeons & Dragons Series HARMONQUEST

I'm sure most of you are already familiar with who Dan Harmon is, but if not, he's the creator of shows such as Community and Rick and Morty. The guy is a huge geek who, like many of us, enjoys the sci-fi and fantasy genre. The guy also loves to play Dungeons & Dragons and that's what this new series called HarmonQuest revolves around.

The series features Harmon playing Dungeons & Dragons with some of his comedian friends that include Aubrey PlazaPaul F. Tompkins, Chelsea Peretti, Ron Funches, and more. It takes things to a whole new level, though, when the adventures and stories of the games they play are brought to life through the magic of animation. I've got a trailer and a clip for the series that you can watch below, and it looks like it could be a fun show to watch.

Ten episodes were shot and will be available for viewing on the streaming service Seeso. Here's the synopsis for the new show:

Adapted from an improv segment on his Harmontown podcast, the part animated, part live-action series brings Harmon and his comedian friends together to play fantasy roleplaying game Pathfinder. All 10 episodes were shot in front of a live audience last year, and feature comedians Erin McGathy, Jeff B. Davis and “Game Master” Spencer Crittenden. Special guests include Aubrey Plaza, Ron Funches and Paul F. Tompkins, who join Harmon and Co. as they dream up increasingly absurd characters within the Dungeons realm.

All 10 episodes of HarmonQuest will be released on Seeso on July 14th. Seems like an amusing show that I would enjoy watching.

Video Details the Two Attempts to Make a JURASSIC PARK Animated Series

Over the years we've seen several popular movies get cartoon series adaptations. It's just something a lot of studios did in an attempt to keep the franchise alive and capitalize on the movie's success. Some of my favorite movie-inspired animated series included The Real GhostbustersBack to the Future, Men in Black, The Karate Kid, and RoboCop. There were a lot of cartoons based on films, and Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park was almost one of them.

We've already shared some concept art and information about the first attempt to make a Jurassic Park animated series, but there were actually two separate attempts to make this happen. ChrisCrossMedia released a fascinating video that offers new details on both those projects and what we could have seen from them.

As a huge fan of Jurassic Park, I probably would have enjoyed the series had they ever happened. These series sounded pretty ambitious, and it would have been a primetime type series for adults and kids that would have included CG animation elements. After watching this video, I'm kind of bummed out that it never happened. Check out the video below and let us know what you think. Would you have liked to see either of these series come to life back in the day?

A popular cosplayer by the name of Tony Kim has started an incredibly awesome new clothing line for the geek community. It’s an officially licensed fashion line called Hero Within, which is described as a fashion brand that blends sophisticated style with geek culture. Kim says:

"As Fanboys, we’ve grown up settling for limited and boring nerd style. While our passion hasn’t changed, out fashion needs have. This Collection was designed to be sophisticated while shamelessly embracing our geeky side.”

This it top quality stuff with a badass style. I would wear the shit out of these clothes! I absolutely love the sleek style and I love how the logos of the superheroes are subtly incorporated into the design of the clothes. Here are the four points of their business motto:

New Concept Art For Disney's Star Wars Land Teases The Park's Coming Attractions

Theme park junkies are dying to visit Disneyland and Walt Disney World's highly-anticipated Star Wars Land, and now DisneyParks (via ComingSoon) has released a new photo of the area to tease fans and pump up that excitement even more.

In April, we celebrated the official groundbreaking of Star Wars-themed lands coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, and beginning today, Disneyland park guests can get a glimpse of this exciting and immersive experience. A new image has been unveiled on the fence along Big Thunder Trail in Frontierland – one of the entry points to this never-before-seen planet in the Star Wars galaxy – revealing more about what guests will find in this all-new land.
Nestled between towering spires of rock, this thriving port contains a seemingly familiar architecture of markets, landing zones and buildings. Look closely and you may find hints of some of the thrilling experiences that are coming – like the Millennium Falcon peeking out of one of the cargo bays, marking the location where guests will get the opportunity to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

Click the image above for a closer look. I'm glad this is a high quality image of the new concept art so the fans desperate for any scrap of info can actually bask in the details instead of having to strain to see some grainy photo of the photo taken by a tourist at Disneyland. Disney obviously has a vested interest in building this up to be one of the coolest experiences in the history of their parks, and expectations are through the roof. We'll just have to wait and see if they can rise to the challenge.

GAME OF THRONES Tribute Video Tracks Daenerys Targaryen's Rise to Power

TheGaroStudios, the same people behind the videos about Game of Thrones characters Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow that we posted last week, are back with a new video, and this one pays tribute to the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen. While Dany's character has been a little stagnant over the past few seasons while she treaded water in Essos, the season six finale saw her finally set out for Westeros with fully-grown dragons, a couple of armies at her back, and a fleet of ships. Things aren't looking good for anyone who stands in her way, and it's cool to look back on this video and see how far Emilia Clarke has taken the character in six years.

Quentin Tarantino Says Hans Landa is The Best Character He's Ever Written

Out of his entire filmography spanning the past couple decades, Quentin Tarantino says the best character he's ever written is Hans Landa. Played by Christoph Waltz, Hans Landa is the main antagonist of Tarantino's film Inglorious Basterds. Waltz did end up winning a best supporting actor Oscar for the role and went from unknown German television star to worldwide A-list status.

“Landa is the best character I’ve ever written and maybe the best I ever will write. I didn’t realize [when I was first writing him] that he was a linguistic genius. He’s probably one of the only Nazis in history who could speak perfect Yiddish.”

While Tarantino can toot his own horn all he wants about the perfection of that character, I don't think it would've translated with any other actor than Waltz. What set Waltz apart was his ability to be a native German speaker with the ability to comprehend Tarantino's writing style that best translates to an English-speaking audience. That's a real testament to his acting ability. I ultimately agree with Tarantino's pick, although it wouldn't have been my first choice...who would you go with?

Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs is in Trouble in New FAST 8 Photo

Daddy's gotta go to...jail?

Here's a new photo from the set of Fast 8, F. Gary Gray's follow-up to James Wan's smash hit Furious 7. We've seen a few pics and videos from the movie so far, but to me, this one is the most interesting. Dwayne Johnson shared this pic of his character, Diplomatic Security Service Agent Luke Hobbs, standing in chains and dressed in an orange inmate jumpsuit. A couple of options instantly came to mind when I saw this:

First: this might be a flashback image revealing that Hobbs has a checkered past, information that could be further explored in the long-discussed spin-off for the character.

Or, the more likely option: Hobbs has been framed, probably by someone in the Shaw family, and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw — who Hobbs personally put in a maximum security cell at the end of the last movie — will emerge victorious, taunting Hobbs from the other side of the fence. (It would be awesome if Shaw got his mom, hopefully played by Helen Mirren, to use connections to make this happen.)

All of that is speculation, of course, but it's obviously intriguing to wonder how a highly-regarded agent ends up behind bars. We previously saw a pic of him standing next to a barbed wire fence, but it wasn't clear that he was in prison at that point. He's teased some big things for his character coming up, and we'll find out more when Fast 8 hits theaters on April 14, 2017.

As long as they spent out traveling in space, you'd have to reckon there were plenty of uneventful days on the Starship Enterprise. In this re-cut clip, this is true for Patrick Stewart's Picard, but literally no one else. It's yet another humorous Star Trek cut from Gazorra you need to see!

Matt Damon is Okay with Being Replaced By a Younger Actor as Jason Bourne

$

When it comes to the Bourne franchise, Matt Damon is aware his days are numbered. THR says the actor acknowledged that one day a younger actor may come along to star in the franchise he started:

"That happens to everybody and they reboot these things, and that’s totally fine.” He continued, “The only control I can exercise is over the ones that I’m part of. I’m the curator of them as long as I’m involved and that’s why I battled so hard to make sure that we got the same creative people [including director Paul Greengrass] to get involved in this one.”

I'm sure the wording of that answer was prompted by the specific question asked, but it's interesting that Damon specifically stated he was okay with a "younger" Bourne. Maybe that was an inside jab at the attempt to bring Jeremy Renner into the fold a couple years back with The Bourne Legacy. It could even be a hint that we'll be seeing prequels to the Bourne films when he was a brainwashed agent. It's most likely nothing and I'm reading far too into things. I'm just so excited for this movie, I can't help it!

EA's BATTLEFIELD is Being Turned into a TV Show

I haven't played any of EA's Battlefield video games, but considering it's build an audience of 60 million players since it kicked off back in 2002, chances are pretty good some of you are familiar with it. Paramount's television arm is certainly hoping you know the game, because Paramount TV has teamed up with production company Anonymous Content to option the television rights to Battlefield with designs on turning it into a long-form TV series.

“Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IP primed for long-form adaptation,” said Michael Sugar, partner, Anonymous Content. “Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly fifteen years.”
“Battlefield is one of the most loved properties among our players,” said Patrick Söderlund, Executive Vice President, EA. “We are thrilled that Anonymous Content and Paramount TV will look to introduce fans to Battlefield through a new medium.”

GAMBIT is Still Happening, Aiming to Start Shooting Next Year

Remember that Channing Tatum-led Gambit movie? It was originally scheduled to come out in three months, but due to a couple of director changes, that's no longer happening. But if producer Simon Kinberg is to be believed, the movie itself is still in the works, and is aiming to start shooting next year. He told The Hashtag Show:

“We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning — or, spring of next year."

Well, that timing should allow director Doug Liman to finish up Chaos Walking before he gets rolling on this one, but I can't imagine that they'll be able to shoot, edit, and do visual effects on the movie in nine months to meet a 2017 release date. In all likelihood, this release date will be delayed again until 2018, maybe hitting in the February spot in which Deadpool performed so well. Not too long ago, Kinberg spoke about how they weren't comfortable with the script, so they were trying to perfect the tone and character of Gambit before they get started on production. That seems like a pretty damn important part of the equation, and it sounds like those issues have been ironed out. So it looks like Gambit will eventually happen, it'll just be the latest victim of the whole "give a movie a release date before it's ready" mentality.

We've seen Death Star waffle makers, Death Star toasters, Darth Vader toasters, and tons of other variations on classic Star Wars imagery being used to brighten up your morning meals, and now two more options have been added to your galaxy of choices: a Stormtrooper waffle maker and a Stormtrooper toaster.

I can only imagine that when your toast is done, it shoots out in crazy directions and avoids hitting your plate to honor the notoriously terrible aim of these crazy space soldiers. Which do you like better, the toaster or the waffle maker?
