Is the Marketing for the New GHOSTBUSTERS Movie Trying to Piss Fans Off?

$

When the first trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters movie was released I was optimistic. I thought there was a chance that it would be a fun and entertaining movie. Now with every clip and TV spot I see with new footage from the movie, my optimism drops. The movie looks like it could be pretty terrible. It’s not just me, though! My wife and girls were excited about the movie, but the more they see from the film the less excited they get. My kids don’t even want to see it now. I raised my kids on the original Ghostbusters movie, and now even they are saying the movie “looks dumb,” and my kids like some pretty crappy stuff.

The studio already knows that a lot of the fans of the original movie are upset. Their voices are heard loud and clear on the internet. But then the marketing team releases something else that just dumps fuel on the fire of hate. Like yesterday, a few new TV spots were released that you can watch below. One of them features a girl version of Slimer, and all I could do is ask myself, “Why are they doing this?” It's just awful. It’s almost like they are going out of their way to piss off fans of the original film, and it confuses me. Why do they want to release stuff that they know will get the fans fuming?

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group Chairman Tom Rothman previously had this to say about all the haters, “It’s the greatest thing that ever happened. Are you kidding me? We’re in the national debate, thank you. Can we please get some more haters to say stupid things?”

Have they implemented this strategy in their marketing plans? I know a lot of people are saying it’s because the lead cast consists of all females, and that all the haters are sexist. I don’t think that’s it at all, though. The group in that category seems like a very small percentage. I think it’s the nostalgia fans have for the original film — that style of comedy, humor, and storytelling. The marketing for new Ghostbusters movie has made a point to let us know that there are going to be a lot of elements from the original film in it, but the tone and comedy that fans loved so much about the original isn’t there. I think that's what fans are pissed off about most. I’m just seeing a lot of pointless and silly slapstick comedy that doesn’t represent the essence or spirit of what I know Ghostbusters to be. This movie simply doesn’t look funny to me. Even if it were a team of new male actors in these roles doing the same kind of comedy as these women, it would look stupid to me. This almost looks like a parody of the original Ghostbusters movie.

I obviously haven’t seen the film yet, but what I’m seeing right now is disappointing. I’m still holding on to a glimmer of optimism and hope that this movie will end up being good and surprise all the naysayers. I would love nothing more than to see the movie and be surprised by how great it is. That happened with me when I saw Paul Feig’s Spy. I didn't like what I saw in the trailer, and I didn't think I would like the movie, but it actually ended up being pretty damn entertaining.

All I’m saying here is that the marketing for the film doesn’t seem to be doing the movie any favors. What do you all think? Am I crazy? Do you think the marketing is good and is it selling you on seeing the movie?

Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15th.

Scarlett Johansson’s Mom Is Japanese in GHOST IN THE SHELL, What Does That Mean for the Story?

Some intriguing new details have surfaced regarding Major Motoko Kusanagi's mother in the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, and it just might offer some insight into Scarlett Johansson's white character in the film.

During an interview with the Associated Press, Japanese actress Kaori Momoi (Memoirs of a Geisha, Sukiyaki Western Django) revealed that she has been cast in the film and that she will be playing The Major’s mother. So, a you have a Japanese actress playing a white woman’s mom. What does this mean?

Well, The Major has a few different origin stories in the franchise. All of the films and anime series are loosely based on the manga comic, and since they have separate continuities, each one has a different origin for The Major.

In one, she was in an accident as a young child that left her body beyond repair and resulted in her brain being encased in a metal shell and implanted in a cyborg body. The Major is one of a very select few to have a body that's 100% synthetic.

In another origin, the accident occurred while Motoko was still in her mother's womb, and as a result, her brain was transferred into a mechanical body before she was ever born.

Then there’s a third one where it's heavily implied that The Major is an A.I., but it’s never confirmed.

Since The Major’s mother will be a part of the film's story, we can scratch that last A.I. one off the list. This could a big spoiler plot twist, and if so, all that talk about whitewashing the movie is pretty much for nothing.

The origin which makes most sense to me for the film is the one where The Major’s brain is encased in a metal shell. That brain can be transferred from one cyborg body to another. At times her body is damaged and destroyed while in the line of duty so she needs backup cyborg bodies to transfer into at a moment's notice. The character is also capable of connecting her brain to multiple cyborg bodies and controlling all of them.

Now this is where things get interesting… Animemojo points out that it was previously announced that Japanese actress Rila Fukishima (Arrow, The Wolverine) had joined the film project, but there have been no details on who she plays. There’s a chance that she is actually playing the real Major Motoko Kusanagi, and Johansson is playing one of the shells that The Major’s mind is placed into for whatever her mission is.

This is only speculation, but it makes complete sense to me. It explains why Johansson’s mother is Japanese in the film, and it explains what they cast a white woman in the role. Johansson isn't actually playing The Major, she is playing the synthetic body of The Major.

There’s an ALIENS Reunion Panel Planned for Comic-Con!

For the 30th anniversary of James Cameron’s Aliens there’s a reunion panel planned for San Diego Comic-Con. It’s hard for me to believe that it’s been 30 years. Aliens was the first rated R film that I saw in theaters, and it was AMAZING! You can read all about my experience here.

The Aliens reunion panel is is to take place on Saturday, July 23rd in Hall H, and it will include a Q&A with director James Cameron, producer Gale Anne Hurd, and actors Sigourney Weaver,  Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, and Carrie Henn, who played Newt in the film. While talking to EW about the event, Cameron said:

“That should be fun. Get the usual suspects back together. You know, it’s interesting. I don’t normally pursue these kind of nostalgia moments like we’re going to do down at Comic-Con, and I didn’t do it much at all for Terminator on its 30th, but there’s something about Aliens. It was a milestone for myself and Gale because the film got seven Academy Award nominations.”

There’s no doubt that it’s going to be an incredibly fun event, and I will most definitely be attending! This is one of those things that you will not want to miss if you’re going to be at the Con.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is also going to release a new Aliens 30th anniversary Blu-ray and Digital HD edition on September 13th, which will feature a new interview with Cameron on the design and inspiration of the film. That’s going to be a must own for any fan! You’ll be able to pre-order it at Fox’s Comic-Con booth, and the first 250 people will get a lithograph image of “Ripley locked in mortal combat with the Alien Queen.”

EW also offers us some details on the anniversary release, saying that it will “include both the original theatrical cut and the special edition, which features more about the past and child Ripley left behind — and lost forever. It will also come with a commentary track, and previously released deleted and extended scenes.” It will also include some collectible art cards that feature some concept sketches by Cameron and a book featuring art from the Dark Horse Comics Aliens series.

It Looks Like SAW: LEGACY Is Really Happening, and It's Shooting This Year

Earlier this year it was reported that Lionsgate might be developing an eighth Saw film called Saw: Legacy. This was a very lucrative horror franchise for the studio. It was so lucrative that not even the last film in the franchise, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, would be the last film. Lionsgate is hellbent on keeping this franchise alive!

The studio hired writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to draft a script for the new film. These are the writers behind films such as Sorority Row and Piranha 3D. We haven't heard much about the film project since that happened, and I figured it might have been scrapped. But today, thanks to Bloody-Disgusting, we've learned that film is gearing up to start shooting this September.

The production details were discovered on a listing at IATSE873, which is a site that supports a union of stage, theater, and movie employees/operators. It reveals that the film will be shot in Toronto. James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Dan Heffner, and Oren Koules are all original producers on the film, and they have all come back for this next installment.

I'm a fan of the first Saw movie. After that, things just went downhill. There's no word yet on who is directing the film, and there are no details on where the story for Saw: Legacy will go. It could be a prequel film giving us the origin story of Jigsaw, or it could be a completely new reimagining with some sort of copycat killer continuing to keep the legacy of Jigsaw alive.

Only time will tell. I'm kind of curious about learning how they will relaunch the franchise, but unless I get invited to a press screening, I probably won't watch it.

Hot Toys Reveals The Joker SUICIDE SQUAD Action Figure

Jared Leto's portrayal of The Joker looks disturbing, and this first Joker action figure for the upcoming Suicide Squad film from Hot Toys perfectly captures the deranged and psychotic look of the villain. The detail on this thing is absolutely stunning, and it offers us a look at the character wearing a straight jacket and his Arkham Asylum uniform. The only other time I recall seeing him in this outfit was when he is sitting down with Margot Robbie's Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel in Arkham. I included an image of that at the very bottom of the post for your reference.

Anyway, here is the description of the figure that Hot Toys released with the reveal photos:

Hahahaha......in DC Comics' upcoming blockbuster, Suicide Squad, the new portrayal of the infamous Joker has captured many fans attention since the character's first reveal! As a secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency and saving the world from an unknown but powerful threat, fans are anxious to see the Joker's role in the epic summer hit!

Today Hot Toys is very excited to present the first official 1/6th scale collectible figure of The Joker portrayed by Academy Award winner Jared Leto in Suicide Squad and this Arkham Asylum version of Batman's nemesis will be one of the Toy Fair Exclusive items for this year!

It features a newly sculpted head sculpt, special paint applications to capture The Joker's unique appearance, finely tailored straitjacket with weathering effects, and a specially designed backdrop of the Arkham Asylum.

ALIEN: COVENANT BTS Video Shows Alien Hand; Danny McBride Offers Details on His Character

Danny McBride's role in Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant has been shrouded in mystery since he was cast in the film. He definitely made an interesting and unexpected addition to the cast, and during an interview with Rolling Stone, the actor revealed some details on his character saying:

"I’m the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew. I run the ship."

Yeah, that makes sense. I could see him playing a wiseass pilot type, and it's safe to assume that he will provide some comic relief. McBride also said that most of the stuff being created for the film is practical effects, which is awesome! He also teased that he'll be getting into some intense situation with an alien running after him:

"[M]ost of the stuff is practical effects. When you're running from an alien it's really a dude in an alien suit coming after you! The sets are incredible and you're in them: We go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don't have to use your imagination."

The film is currently in production, and the studio released a cool behind-the-scene video showing off one of the practical effects being created for the movie. It's a sculpt of a menacing Xenomorph hand.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus -- and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The cast also includes Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby. Alien: Covenant opens in theaters on August the 4th, 2017.

First BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Teaser Poster Features the Enchanted Rose

first-beauty-and-the-beast-poster-features-the-iconic-rose

Emma Watson has released the first teaser poster for her highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. As you can see, it features the iconic enchanted rose given to the Beast by an old beggar woman who he turned away. As the narrator explained in the original film:

“The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his twenty-first year. If he could learn to love another, and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.”

The first trailer for the film was released about a month ago, and it seemed to spark excitement in fans for this movie. It seems like director Bill Condon has wonderfully captured the spirit of the classic animated film. Disney has had a great streak of live-action adaptations of animated films. Two of my favorites have been Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella and Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book. I'm excited to see how this Beauty and the Beast adaptation turns out!

Watson plays Belle in the film and joining her in the production are Luke Evans as Gaston, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Josh Gad as Le Fou, and more.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Beauty and the Beast is set to open on March 17th, 2017.

Scatter Plot Shows Exactly When Robert De Niro Stopped Making Good Films

It's no secret that Robert De Niro is no longer involved in the classic movie and Oscar-winning game. No one exactly knows why, because he's still a great actor! He's just been a part of some truly awful films as of late. While only he knows why this sudden shift in career happened, Reddit user Honsco has narrowed down exactly when it happened with this scatter plot found below...

The graph is based off average Rotten Tomato scores. Looks like after age 60 things really went downhill for De Niro! I'm sure he has more than enough money, so why is he still doing it? I guess if I had nothing left to prove in Hollywood I would run around doing whatever I wanted rather than "what's best for my legacy." You only got so long on this Earth...might as well spend it with Zac Efron and hot chicks right?

It's also super hard to measure up to some of the films he was apart of so early in his career! The Godfather II, Goodfellas, The Deer Hunter, Casino, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver?! Those are all cinema classics! It's going to be hard to maintain that success train when the bar is so high!

CELLULOID WIZARDS IN THE VIDEO WASTELAND Trailer: Revisit The Rise and Fall of Empire Pictures

Re-Animator. Puppetmaster. Trancers. Ghoulies. If you grew up in the '80s and '90s and had any interest in schlocky horror films, you've probably seen the aforementioned movies and a handful of others from Empire Pictures, the production company/studio run by Charles Band. The rise and fall of that company is now getting the documentary treatment in a film called Celluloid Wizards in the Video Wasteland: The Saga of Empire Pictures, which is directed by Daniel Griffith. The project earned some of its money through Kickstarter, and unfortunately it doesn't have an official release date yet. Hopefully it'll at least be available to stream on Netflix sometime soon, because this looks like a great companion piece to docs like Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films and Not Quite Hollywood, which focused on Aussie exploitation films.

Check out some of the truly insane footage from the old Empire movies in the new trailer below (via /Film):

Review: THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS is All Bark and No Bite

$
0
0

Not all animation has to reach the lofty standards of Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, or Miyazaki. Since there will always be a generation of kids who have never seen a movie before, it stands to reason that there will always be a market for slapstick humor aimed directly at them. Illumination Entertainment — they of the Despicable Me movies, Hop, and now The Secret Life of Pets — seem to have that particular market cornered, and the company is seemingly content with churning out the kinds of movies whose highlights can best be described with a phrase like, "Well, at least I was sitting in air conditioning for an hour and a half."

The Secret Life of Pets' heightened version of New York City — with gorgeous, clean, shiny skyscrapers that pack the skyline and seem to stretch forever upward and into the distance — is the best thing about the film. Its premise (a riff on Toy Story in which we find out what pets, instead of toys, do when their owners aren't around) has lots of potential, but the script isn't remotely interested in doing anything new with it. Instead, it's a collection of scenes and ideas that have been explored dozens of times in other movies, overstuffed with forgettable side characters who have little (and sometimes nothing) to do as the manic, madcap madness of the story unfolds.

Louis C.K. plays Max, a spoiled terrier who lives a perfect life with his owner, Katie (Ellie Kemper). As Max's friendly neighbor pets live out their mini-fantasies (blasting hardcore music, stuffing themselves with food from the fridge, etc) while their owners are out at work every day, Max just waits patiently at the door every day for Katie to come back. One day, she brings home a large dog named Duke (Eric Stonestreet) from the pound, and the two animals instantly don't get along. They're both total jerks to each other, and by the time they both get left behind during a dog walking session because they've spent so much time scheming to get rid of each other, I found myself not rooting for either one of them. Things truly go off the rails after that as they encounter a dangerous underground group of rejected animals led by a fast-talking bunny named Snowball (Kevin Hart), while separately Max's neighbors — including the puffy Pomeranian who loves him, Gidget (Jenny Slate) — team up to rescue them. Animals drive (and wreck) multiple cars and buses, there's a horrifying dream sequence involving eating singing sausages, and many more insane sequences along those lines. It's not nearly as funny as it should be, but other than that, it's probably exactly what you're expecting.

I don't drink the Kool-Aid that says Pixar and Disney are the only good animation players in town. I loved How to Train Your Dragon, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is one of my all-time favorite animated films. But unlike The Secret Life of Pets, those movies are actually about something, and they have things like themes and ideas in them, aspects Pets doesn't even bother with. I don't need a movie (especially an animated movie aimed primarily at ten-year-olds) to make a grand statement about the meaning of life, but a simple thematic throughline goes a long way. Cloudy is about following dreams and embracing what you love; HTTYD deals with convincing family and friends to change their preconceived notions. Pets is about...working together? Learning to deal with a roommate? It doesn't give us much to grab onto in that department, and it seems as if what it's really about is simply giving kids something to watch that will hopefully shut them up for a little while. Not every animated movie needs to strive for greatness, but they should at least strive to be a little better than this.

John Cho's Sulu is Gay in STAR TREK BEYOND

$

When Star Trek: The Original Series featured one of the first interracial kisses on television, the ratings took a hit because many outlets in the deep South refused to air the episode. The franchise has always embraced that progressive mentality, and Gene Roddenberry's vision was a world in which people of all races and sexual orientations were considered legitimate equals. While George Takei, who played Sulu in the original series and the subsequent movies, famously came out as gay in 2005 and has been one of the most vocal advocates of the LGBTQ community in the following years, there has yet to be a major gay character (as far as I can tell) in any of the Trek shows or movies. But that's about to change, and in a cool way that gives a nod to Takei himself.

John Cho, who plays Hikaru Sulu in the Kelvin-verse movies (the new trilogy starting with J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek), spoke with the Herald Sun and revealed that his character is depicted as gay in this month's new movie Star Trek Beyond:

Helmsman of the USS Enterprise, Hikaru Sulu, played by John Cho, is shown in Star Trek Beyond as the loving father of a daughter with a same sex partner. And in typical trailblazing Trek fashion — it’s just not a big deal.
“I liked the approach, which was not to make a big thing out it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations,” said Cho.

That's gotta be cool to hear if you're someone who cares at all about representation issues in the media we all consume, and not making a big deal out of it seems like the perfect way to tackle the subject. If more stories start to follow suit (there have been rumblings of a LGBTQ character on Bryan Fuller's new series next year, but hopefully this extends past just the Star Trek franchise), it'll be a nice step toward improving our society's reaction to sexuality.

BLOOD FATHER: New Trailer and Poster For The Mel Gibson Action Thriller

Lionsgate just dropped a new teaser poster, trailer, and release date for Mel Gibson's upcoming action movie Blood Father. While it looks like a pretty solid thriller and I'm sure most people will be perfectly content to simply watch the movie and completely divorce themselves from Gibson's off-screen behavior, I'm fascinated by the connections that can be drawn between his real life and what we see in this movie. The trailer shows Gibson's character telling his daughter that she'll face God for the mistakes she's made, and it's interesting to wonder if the actor might be working through some of his own past issues on screen here. If not, at least it looks like it has some cool action for fans to enjoy.

Blood Father hits theaters on August 12, 2016.

BLOOD FATHER stars Mel Gibson as John Link, an ex-convict who fights to protect his estranged daughter from the drug cartel that is hunting her down. In this thrilling action film, John must use his connections from his past life and his skills as an ex-criminal to keep him and his daughter alive.

Throwback: Video Shows Disappointed Fans Reacting To THE LAST AIRBENDER

You guys remember that one time Nickelodeon had such a softball of a film it seemed impossible that even they could f*** it up? The Last Airbender wasn't just a major disappointment to fans, it also successfully sealed M. Night Shyamalan out of the film world for a time. It really was THAT bad. I still don't understand how they managed to make it so awful.

Super Mario Bros. is an awful movie, but you can justify that. The game has abstract storytelling so you take a swing at a creative story and you fail. At least you had to take that risk. The Last Airbender had an entire series that they could've shown shot for shot on screen and people would've gone nuts! YET THEY DIDN'T EVEN GIVE ANG HIS NAME! Share your frustration with the folks who were unlucky enough to attend a midnight showing.

SUICIDE SQUAD: 4 EW Covers, New Plot Info, and David Ayer is Feeling The Pressure

$

It's been crazy to see how much hype and excitement there is for Suicide Squad. As director David Ayer pointed out in a recent interview with EW, this is a DC property not a lot of people were familiar with, but now everyone can't wait to get in on the action.

You can't deny that the movie looks awesome, and all the footage that I've seen has been crazy impressive. I'm most excited about seeing Harley Quinn finally making her live-action big screen debut and seeing Jared Leto's Joker performance. I just hope that Ayer nailed the perfect story and script for the film. The director is definitely feeling the pressure now. He explained in the interview:

“Two years ago Suicide Squad was a tertiary [DC property]. No one knew anything about it. It was a cool little playground, and I was going to go make my movie. Now it’s like the hype bus. All of the attention has swung onto it, and it has to carry a lot more weight than it was ever intended to. I think it can sustain it. But it’s a lot of pressure. You definitely feel the pressure.”

There's a lot riding on the film, but I personally think it will be better received by audiences and critics than Batman v Superman. Will it make more money, though? That has yet to be seen. The magazine goes on to offer us a new description of the film which reveals that Amanda Waller's first mission for the Suicide Squad is to take down a possessed archaeologist named June Moone a.k.a. Enchantress. The Joker's role in the film is also revealed as he's on a mission of passion to reunite with Harley Quinn, and this will apparently pose a problem for the team.

Suicide Squad takes place in a post-Superman world, following the events of Dawn of Justice, as the government grapples with how to respond the next time an alien visits Earth with less noble intentions than the Man of Steel. The answer, according to ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), is to recruit society’s most vile criminals, armed with lethal skills and superhuman powers. Her first target is possessed archaeologist June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).
Waller’s program doesn’t get a green light, though, until Midway City is threatened by a powerful mystical enemy, and Waller needs to activate the whole squad of prisoners. The baddies get a break. Deadshot (Will Smith) has his Second Amendment rights reinstated, Harley (Margot Robbie) is carefully excised from her birdcage, Diablo (Jay Hernandez) is released from his own fireproof fortress of solitude, Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Slipknot (Adam Beach) strap their weapons back on, and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is popped from his swamp. The one condition for their restricted freedom: Obey orders or die, a rule strictly enforced by squad leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), his samurai Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and the explosive devices inserted into their necks courtesy of Wayne Enterprises. Throwing a wrench into all these plans is the tatted Gotham City arch-criminal, the Joker (Jared Leto), and his laser-like plan to reunite with his true love, Harley, mission be damned.
But a funny thing happens while these scumbags try to become heroes – they each must absolve themselves of their crimes even if society won’t. And that’s where it gets interesting. A layer of humanity – and sadness – resides underneath these characters’ stories as they each grapple with whether they can be redeemed.

Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th.

Making sound effects for films can be hard work. Even if you have a digital suite of sounds at your disposal, all the mixing, editing, and tuning to get the sound just right for what's on screen can be brutal. That doesn't even include when you have to make the sounds yourself! Foley artists aren't as celebrated as they should be in Hollywood, but that might change with this short film! The Foley Artist shows just how much work (some of it is exaggerated) can go into creating the sound we take for granted in cinema! Great work by Feast Films!

Here's the first trailer and poster for Table 19, a new wedding comedy starring Anna Kendrick with a story by the Duplass Brothers and writer/director Jeffrey Blitz. (Blitz was the guy who discovered Kendrick back in the day by casting her in his indie film called Rocket Science, and his other credits include the excellent documentary Spellbound and episodes of The Office and Parks and Rec.) This movie looks a little cheesy, but its ensemble cast — which includes Stephen Merchant, Craig Robinson, Lisa KudrowJune Squibb (Nebraska), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some!!), and Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley) — has proven to be super charming in other things, so hopefully they'll all come together to make this a movie worth checking out.

Table 19 hits theaters on January 20, 2017.

Ex-maid of honor Eloise (Anna Kendrick) - having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text - decides to hold her head up high and attend her oldest friend's wedding anyway. She finds herself seated at the 'random' table in the back of the ballroom with a disparate group of strangers, most of whom should have known to just send regrets (but not before sending something nice off the registry). As everyone's secrets are revealed, Eloise learns a thing or two from the denizens of Table 19. Friendships - and even a little romance - can happen under the most unlikely circumstances.

If you've ever used a Kendo stick, you'll understand the title. I made the mistake of purchasing one with friends and I felt the fights in my knuckles for a week! You don't have to experience that trauma. You can watch this video from Reubino and see some much better fighting than I ever did after marathoning Naruto

This guy may be better than me, but he lacks style. WHERE ARE THE FLOURISHES?!

Fan Edit of MAN OF STEEL's Battle of Metropolis with Ground Level Perspective From BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Remember that gif that was making the rounds that cut together General Zod's skyscraper eye blast from Man of Steel with Bruce Wayne seeing the event from the ground in the opening minutes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Now YouTube user The Film Guy has taken that concept to its natural conclusion and cut the whole sequences from both movies together instead of just a couple of shots. (We've seen a version of this already, but that one only had the BvS trailer footage to work with — this one has the whole movie.) I didn't love BvS, but this mashup works really well.
