Cool FRIDAY THE 13TH-Themed Music Video From THE LEAGUE's Jon Lajoie — A New Beginning

Comedian/musician Jon Lajoie, who you may recognize as "Taco" from the FX series The League, has released a cool music video for a song called "A New Beginning" (he sings and plays guitar in the band, which is called Wolfie's Just Fine). The song is about a kid growing up and seeing Jason Voorhees murder two characters in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning; I've never seen that movie, so while I'm sure it works wonderfully if you have and know the specific scene he's referencing, everyone can relate to it as a nostalgic throwback to the feelings we felt as kids the first time we ever saw a horror movie.

Laika's Stop-Motion KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS Gets a Mystical New Trailer

Here's the newest trailer for Kubo and the Two Strings, the latest stop-motion animated film from Laika (the company behind Coraline, The Boxtrolls, and ParaNorman). We've already expressed our excitement for this samurai-inspired movie, and this trailer just amps up that excitement even more. The visual style here is a lot more appealing to me than what I've seen in their previous movies, and I'm digging the inclusion of magical elements — that should make things really interesting when the going gets tough for our hero.

With a voice cast led by Art Parkinson (Game of Thrones) and featuring George Takei, Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, Kubo and the Two Strings looks like it could be a hell of an adventure. The film hits theaters on August 19, 2016.

An epic action-adventure from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA. Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of “Game of Thrones”) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Akihiro (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), and Kameyo (Academy Award nominee Brenda Vaccaro). But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara), to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family, and fulfill his heroic destiny.

SOUTH PARK Will Have a Huge Presence at This Year's Comic-Con

Trey Parker and Matt Stone's outstanding Comedy Central series South Park has been going strong since 1997, and this year will mark the show's 20th season. That's a staggering amount of content, and it's especially impressive considering how topical the show is (if you're a fan of the show but haven't seen the documentary about how the team puts an episode together in less than a week, definitely check out 6 Days to Air).

To celebrate the big milestone, the show is coming to this year's San Diego Comic-Con in a big way. Chris Hardwick is hosting their Hall H panel on Friday, July 22 at 5pm, where they'll show an exclusive preview of the new video game, which is pun-tastically titled South Park: The Fractured But Whole. (I'm not a big fan of Hardwick, but even I have to admit he's a solid SDCC moderator.) Deadline has a detailed breakdown of the big presence South Park will have around the convention:

The exhibition kicks off Thursday July 21 and runs through Sunday July 24 at Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade Park across from the Convention Center. It will include the interactive South Park 20 Experience with 20 life-sized South Park scenes built out in 2D/3D format; The Coon & Friends Experience from Ubisoft which will feature real-world items from the new video game, South Park: The Fractured But Whole; a Hulu viewing lounge which will be screening episodes from the past 19 seasons, and an art gallery celebrating the 20th season featuring 20 pieces from 20 artists curated by pop culture artist Ron English. There also will be a retrospective gallery featuring original animation cells from South Park's pilot episode.

That sounds like a total blast for South Park fanatics, so hopefully some of you get the chance to experience all of that in person. Season 20 premieres on Comedy Central on September 14, 2016.

Watch: How CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Should Have Ended

I really enjoyed Captain America: Civil War, but I thought Tony Stark's reaction to — spoiler alert — discovering that Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) was the one who killed his parents was a little overkill. I understand that Tony was emotional in that moment, but it wasn't like Bucky did it on purpose. He was brainwashed and carrying out an order. Yes, Bucky technically did it, but he can't be held responsible for those actions and Tony should know that.

That's just one aspect of the movie the How It Should Have Ended team tackles in their latest video. Check it out below:

Nickelodeon's DOUBLE DARE To Be Resurrected For One Night at SDCC

The Nickelodeon game show classic Double Dare will be returning for one night only at San Diego Comic-Con. EW reports that Marc Summers will reprise his role as the host and that the whole thing will be hosted on the Nickelodeon SPLAT Facebook page. The event will kick off a week of Classic Double Dare episodes on Teen Nick hosted by Summers himself.

I've already made it known to the GeekTyrant team that if there's even a CHANCE that we could be on the show, I want to take it! I've always wanted to dig in that slime nose for a flag! I've also always wondered if the slime tastes like applesauce like people say. Sorry if you're not going to Comic-Con! At least you'll have the opportunity to watch it all week long!

Video: All The Facts You Can Handle About Will Smith

At the age of 15, Will Smith had his heart broken. Had he not, we may never have seen Independence Day, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, or had the opportunity to "get jiggy with it." We also wouldn't have seen After Earth, so there would be some upsides to a Smith-less timeline. ScreenCrush gives us the lowdown on Will Smith facts like these and many more! See the video below.

Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Used To Be A Gymnast in SUICIDE SQUAD

It appears that despite the changes in costume, Suicide Squad's version of Harley Quinn will still have some of her character attributes from Batman: The Animated Series. Margot Robbie spoke to Vanity Fair about her character and her relationship with The Joker:

“She loves causing mayhem and destruction. She’s incredibly devoted to the Joker. They have a dysfunctional relationship, but she loves him anyway. She used to be a gymnast — that’s her skill set when fighting.”

While she did mention that Quinn used to be a skilled gymnast, I'm wondering if they'll keep the origin of how Harley and Joker met in the story. It seems weird to pull from a lesser-known fact and leave out that she was formerly a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. Maybe that's just the studio trying to keep plot points from leaking out.

I'm glad to hear we will see some Joker and Harley interaction in the film and that they are a couple! Part of me was worried that the film would try to introduce them for the first time or something dumb like that. Let's hope my assumption is right!

Awesome DEADPOOL 2 Fan Poster Should Be The Film's Official Poster

This fan made a Deadpool 2 poster so awesome I thought it was legit. It didn't help that I initially saw it on Ryan Reynolds' Instagram account, but after some digging, I discovered it was a fan work by Mutant101! It just works on so many levels:

  • Deadpool Number 2 = poop joke
  • Wolverine and Professor X drawings on bathroom sign
  • "Soon As In 2018"

"Deadpool -Number Two" Fan-Art: @mutant101 #mutant101 @deadpoolmovie @vancityreynolds @briannahilde @stefankapicic

Maybe Reynolds can pull some strings and get this to be an official poster before 2018.

Bryan Cranston Says POWER RANGERS Movie is "Unrecognizable" Compared to The TV Show

Lionsgate's live-action Power Rangers movie reboot is rocketing toward its March 2017 release date, and a lot of '90s kids who grew up with the show are super excited to see how it stacks up to the TV series. Now one of the movie's stars has given fans a huge clue about what this film will be like, and some of you may be slightly distraught to find out that it won't bear a close resemblance to the show. Bryan Cranston, who was recently cast as Zordon and has his own deeper history with the franchise, spoke with The Huffington Post about taking the job and the tone of the new film:

“At first I was, to be honest with you, I was reticent to looking at the role because I remember the television series was kind of farcical and silly and ‘pow’ and ‘zow’ — weird movements and things like that. I was like, 'Oh, OK.'
“I wasn’t really high on it until I talked to the producer and read the script and talked to the director. After that I went, ‘This is different.’” He continued, “This is as different a reimagining as the ‘Batman’ television series as it became the ‘Batman’ movie series. You can’t compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the ‘Power Rangers’ to that television series. It’s unrecognizable for the most part. There are tenets of the folklore that you hold onto for sure, but the inspiration is different, and the sensibility of it, and the approach to the film making is completely different.”

Cranston clarified that he was talking about Christopher Nolan's trilogy when he mentioned the Batman movies, and made sure to mention that he didn't think Power Rangers would skew quite as dark because "you're dealing with teenagers." But getting inside the teenage mentality is apparently going to be a big part of the film:

"So the appropriateness of that, and real teenage life, and going through high school and the cliques and the popularity or lack thereof, and the bullies and all the different sections and sub-sections of high school life, and the insecurities of these kids and things like that — hopes and dreams — and you embrace all of that into a retelling of the ‘Power Rangers.’ And what you would get is this new version, this new reimagined version."

There's a lot to take away from that, but my main question is how are fans going to react to a statement like that? For the most part, they're fans of the show and the way things were done on the show, so to hear that this movie will be "unrecognizable for the most part" seems like a pretty massive shift in style. And let's face it: genre fans aren't the most open-minded people when it comes to adaptations of franchises they love. In their minds, things have to be done in a very specific way, and this sounds like it might be more of a ground-up reimagining than a slight twist on the old show. What do you think? Are you looking forward to the movie? Would you be happy with something that keeps some of the "tenets of the folklore" but drastically changes everything else, or would you prefer a more straight-forward adaptation of what you know from the show?

Watch: ASH VS EVIL DEAD Season 2 Trailer May Be The Bloodiest Trailer Ever Made

Starz has released the brand new trailer for season 2 of Ash vs. Evil Dead, and there's a pretty good chance it's the bloodiest trailer ever cut in the history of film or television. That's a bold claim, but considering it's only 30 seconds long and basically the entire thing is drenched with that ridiculously over-the-top Sam Raimi-style gore, I'm fairly certain you won't be able to find another trailer that even approaches this ratio. It's exactly what fans of the series want to see, and we'll be on the edge of our seats until Bruce Campbell and the gang return in the season 2 premiere this October.

For the last several weeks, GeekTyrant has been fine-tuning an experimental Facebook livestream show called Spidey Beats. The show is admittedly campy when you've got Spider-Man belting out Frank Sinatra and Disney movie covers. Always accompanied by a cosplay artist who stays mostly in character, the show takes on extra layers of geek meta comedy. Spidey Beats talks about the week's geeky news in movies, games, and comics with genuine zeal. If you haven't seen Spidey Beats before, or in a while, check it out — it's a goofy fun blast.

The show's PG format has attracted several young fans and those young at heart. Being able to interact live or make music requests attracts lots of comments. Each episode generates about 600-700 comments. Each episode's views continue to grow each week with the last episode almost hitting 20,000.

Spidey Beats goes live Wednesdays around 6pm Pacific / 7pm Mountain. We've got a few clips below for you to checkout.

GAME OF THRONES Season 7 Might Be Delayed Due to Weather

When Game of Thrones aired its season 6 finale a couple of weeks ago, I assumed we were in for the traditional ten month wait before season 7 began. Normally the show ends in June and picks up again the next April, but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss visited the UFC Unfiltered podcast and revealed some new information: we may have to wait longer than normal to see new episodes of the show:

We don’t have an air date yet, but this year will probably be a bit later. We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, winter is here. And that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more. So we’ve kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.

Keeping in mind that there are only 13-15 episodes left in the entire series and that director Jack Bender spilled the beans about there only being seven episodes next season, it's possible that season seven might premiere in mid-May to retain its finale spot on the last Sunday in June. Considering how the season six finale was their most-watched episode ever, I imagine HBO would be keen to have them keep that slot for next season's finale (or the mid-season finale, or whatever they end up calling it with the split seasons). We won't know for sure until the network confirms official dates, but you should prepare yourselves for a longer wait than usual until we return to Westeros.

THE NICE GUYS' Angourie Rice Joins SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

$

The cast list for Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to balloon. THR reports that Aussie actress Angourie Rice is the latest person who's been added to the movie in a mystery role.

Rice starred opposite Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys, Shane Black's terrific '70s-set murder mystery that came out earlier this year. Rice was able to hold her own against those two veterans, so I'm sure she'll be able to handle whatever role the producers of this film have in store for her here (likely just one of Peter Parker's high school classmates).

This movie's cast is already beyond huge, so I'm wondering if we're at the tail end of the new additions or if director Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown) still has a few more roles to fill as they continue production. Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Marissa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Logan Marshall Green, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Bokeem Woodbine, Hannibal Burress, Abraham Attah, and more are set to star, and Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on June 7, 2017.

Prelude Episode of TRANSFORMERS: COMBINER WARS Focuses on the Character Victorion

The second prelude episode has been released for the upcoming animated series Transformers: Combiner Wars. This one focuses on a character named Victorion, who is described as “a Combiner born from the magic of the 'Enigma of Combination', describes her anger with this new state of affairs and proclaims her intention to save the Transformers galaxy from the chaos created in the aftermath of disbanding the Autobots and Decepticons.”

This will be followed by two more prelude episodes leading up to the premiere of the series on August 2nd. The next two episodes will revolve around the characters Starscream and Windblade.

Transformers: Combiner Wars is a new series that is targeted to adult fans who grew up with the original Transformers cartoon series, and these prelude episodes are to prep the fans for what is to come. It was previously said that the series would introduce "new lore and all-new characters that, combined with the characters fans have known for decades, will bring the Transformers storytelling in a new direction as the Machinima series will deliver raging action and signature humor to legions of Transformers fans."

I don’t know if you’ve seen this video of Patrick Stewart singing classic cowboy songs yet or not, but it’s the best thing the internet has to offer right now. The video is done in the style of one of those old Time Life Music Collection commercials. Watch Stewart sing his heart out in the video below!
