Is This a Sketch of the New Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King's IT Film Adaptation?

is-this-a-sketch-of-the-new-pennywise-the-clown-in-stephen-kings-it-film-adaptation1

Stephen King's It is a favorite of mine, and I really hope that Mama director Andres Muschetti has what it takes to give fans the perfect film adaptation. He's currently developing the film, and he recently released a sketch he drew of Pennywise the Clown, who is being played by Bill Skarsgård in the film. I have no idea if this sketch is based on the clown design being used in the film, but if it is, it's creepy as hell and I can get behind that terrifying clown design.

The epic horror adventure will be split into two films. The first will focus on a group of friends known as "The Losers Club" as they face off with a terrifying monster who is killing kids in Derry, Maine. The second film is set 30 years later. The monster returns, and the group of old friends come back together to try and destroy the monster once and for all. Producer Roy Lee previously said:

“It is very close to the source material in one way but very different if you look at it as a literary piece of work… We’re taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel. But it’s gonna be a really fun way of making this movie.”

The film also stars Jaeden Lieberher as Bill, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Wyatt Oleff as Eddie, Fin Wolfhard as Richie, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Nicholas Hamilton as Henry Bowers.

I have high hopes for this movie, and I hope to hell that Muschetti can pull it off! If this sketch indicates how he envisions Pennywise... so far so good.

Mace Windu is Alive in the STAR WARS Universe According to Samuel L. Jackson and George Lucas

We all thought we saw Mace Windu die in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith when his arm was cut off and he was thrown out of a window high above the city on the planet Coruscant during an altercation with Anakin Skywalker and Darth Sidious. But maybe he didn't die, maybe Windu lives! Samuel L. Jackson believes that it would take a lot more than just cutting off an arm and throwing him out the to kill the Jedi Master.

During a Q&A on Twitter, the actor explained that "Jedi can fall from extremely high heights." He expanded on that during an interview with EW on SiriusXM, saying:

"Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there's a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?"

He's right! There's really no reason why Windu wouldn't be alive. Jackson goes on to say that he thinks Windu went into hiding after the Jedi Purge and Order 66. The actor shared his theory with Star Wars creator George Lucas, and apparently he backs up Jackson's theory.

"George [was] like, 'I'm okay with that. You can be alive.'"

So I guess that leaves the door open for Windu to return to the Star Wars universe at some point in either Star Wars: Rebels or even another film, which would be pretty cool. Who knows if that will ever actually happen, though.

Here's a far out fan theory I'll throw out there... What if... Mace Windu... is Supreme Leader Snoke?! Oooooohhhhhhh!!!! Ha! Yeah, right.

20th Century Fox has released a hilarious red-band trailer for their upcoming comedy Why Him? The movie stars Bryan Cranston as a conservative, straitlaced husband and father named Ned who is introduced to his daughter's wild and crazy internet billionaire boyfriend named Laird (James Franco) for the first time. As you might expect, Ned doesn't want his daughter to be with this kind of guy so he sets out to try and break their relationship.

John Hamburg (I Love You, Man) directed the film, and while it may not be the most original movie idea, with this cast playing these characters it looks like it will be a ton of fun. I also included the regular green-band trailer for you to watch. The red-band trailer just gives you a truer sense of what you can expect from the movie.

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry—and Ned’s panic level—escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

The movie also stars Zoey Deutch, Megan MullallyKeegan-Michael KeyAndrew RannellsCasey Wilson, and Adam DeVineWhy Him? will be released on theaters on December 25th, 2016.

With Independence Day: Resurgence out in theaters right now (read Joey's review here), Mashable took the opportunity to sit down with star Jeff Goldblum and have him read aloud from a fake children's book called Independence Day For Kids, which recounts the events of the first movie in a nice rhyme scheme. And as you'd expect, Goldblum puts the kind of spin on the delivery that only he could pull off.

Disney Just Announced WRECK-IT RALPH 2 Will Arrive in 2018

Here's some news we've been waiting to hear for a long time. Walt Disney Animation has officially announced that Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be released in theaters on March 9, 2018. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman are coming back to reprise their roles as Ralph and Vanellope, Rich Moore is returning to the director's chair, and Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia) is joining Moore as a co-director and writer.

This time, the plot will center on Ralph wrecking the internet.

You can watch the video of the filmmakers (and John C. Reilly) making the announcement earlier on Facebook Live at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/Disney/videos/10153760073335954/

“From the moment we started working on the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters,” said Moore, who has been developing it since shortly after the release of the first film, and while directing this year’s critically-acclaimed hit “Zootopia” with Byron Howard. “This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again.”
“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope,” said Johnston. “The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”
“Ralph is a character very near and dear to my heart,” added Reilly. “I'm really looking forward to playing the big lug again. Making the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ was one of the most special experiences I've ever had and I'm really looking forward to bringing him back to life. So many kids I've met all over the world are excited to see him again, too. They tell me all the time!”

I loved the first Wreck-It Ralph, so I'm definitely excited to see where they go from here. We've heard rumblings about a sequel for a long time, and Moore has even teased what it would be about, but this is the first time we've received official confirmation that the project is happening and has a release date.

Are you excited about Wreck-It Ralph 2?

Netflix's DEATH NOTE Adaptation Begins Filming

Not long after Netflix announced they would be creating an adaptation of the popular Japanese manga/anime Death Note, we receive news from Bloody Disgusting that principal photography has begun on set.

The American adaptation will certainly be a departure from previous films and entries as the cast will have Nat Wolff (Paper Towns) portraying the formerly Japanese Light Yagami (now Light Turner) and Keith Stanfeld (Dope, Straight Outta Compton) as L. I'm sure much like the Ghost in The Shell controversy, we will hear about Netflix opting not to go with Japanese actors for the role, but here's the difference.

The Japanese already have their live action Death Note films...and they suck. That's really all there is to say to anyone who has a problem with it. If you don't like the new cast, go watch the bad one.

For what it's worth, this new film is going to be a strict interpretation of the manga, which will be cool for me as I heard the television series was a bit different in some areas. Honestly, I'm just excited at the prospect of a GOOD Death Note live action film. What about you?

Cinemark Wants $700k in Damages From Victims of Aurora Theater Shooting

This is disgusting. After years of battling in the courts, Cinemark has finally been found not guilty of responsibility in the 2012 Aurora shooting. For those who do not remember, this is the incident where a gunman walked into a screening of The Dark Knight Rises and killed 12 people and injured several others. Since then, the theater chain has been in legal battles with the families of victims and survivors, and now that they've won, they want reparations.

Deadline says Colorado law allows for the winning party to seek damages and civil fees in the event of winning a case, and now Cinemark is wants nearly $700,000 in legal fees from the 30 plaintiffs involved in the case. Mind you, these are the families of victims who died and people injured in the shooting that they're demanding this money from.

While I'm not wishing to stick my neck out too far on this one, I will say that next to no one would have guessed or even believed something like that would have happened that night in Aurora, so I can see the jury's point in finding the cinema not guilty. What I can't believe is that Cinemark wouldn't just eat the fees and let it go as opposed to turning around and driving the nail further into families who are already permanently affected by the events of that day. It's just greedy. Hopefully someone steps forward and does the right thing.

Big Budget Spectacle Films Should Be More Than Just Eye Candy

$

As movie fans, we deserve more than just big budget special effects in big tentpole spectacle films, and studios should be spending their money wisely on the projects and talent they choose to invest in.

Independence Day: Resurgence was released this last weekend, and it was such a huge disappointment. I was excited about that movie and I thought it would at least offer some form of entertainment, but instead, I just couldn't wait for the movie to end. You can read my review for it here if you haven't already.

I got a lot of comments and have had a lot of conversations with people about how they don't go to see "these kinds of movies for the story and characters," and to that I say: bullshit.

We see a lot of great big budget spectacle films that have great stories, great scripts, and great characters. Marvel is a perfect example of a studio giving audiences movies that have all of those things, and on top of that they also manage to give us plenty of the eye candy that we love. If Marvel ended up making a movie as bad as Independence Day: Resurgence, the fans would go ape shit and tear it apart. They wouldn't say, "I don't see these movies for the story or characters" because that's exactly why we go to see those movies! We freakin' care about those things! So why should we lower our standards for other films? We shouldn't!

We should expect the same top-notch quality of filmmaking and storytelling from every film we see! It all starts with the studios. They should be investing their money in the right talent who have the ability to tell great stories, because no matter how pretty a movie looks, it's pointless if there isn't a solid cohesive story behind it. Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch and Batman v Superman are two other examples I'm going to throw into the pot as examples. Those films were visually spectacular! But they had such mediocre stories and scripts.

There is really no reason that all of these big budget films shouldn't be AMAZING. The studios are spending between $120 and $250 million or more on tentpole films these days. With that kind of money, they actually have the power to hire the best and most talented people for the job. Of course, there are a lot of behind the scenes politics that happen when making movies which tends to lead to mediocre talent being hired, which is why we keep getting these disappointing films. It's the Hollywood game that gets in the way of making a constant stream of great movies. (That and accountants.)

Here's the thing: every film that goes into development has the potential to be great! Every single one of them. Independence Day: Resurgence could have been an absolutely amazing film! The studio just invested in the wrong pitch and the wrong talent to make it. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

We should never have to say, "I don't see these kinds of movies for the story." If that's your thing, then that's your thing, but just remember, "those kinds of movies" could have and should have been all-around GREAT films, not something we and the studios should just settle for.

Solid story, script, characters, and talent are what make these big films so memorable. Not the special effects. The special effects will eventually look dated, but 20 to 50 years from now, people will only remember and talk about the films that had great stories, scripts, characters, and talent. Everything else will fade into obscurity.

Terrific New Trailer For Netflix's Spielberg-Inspired New Series STRANGER THINGS

The second trailer for Netflix's new sci-fi show Stranger Things is even better than the first.

I just rewatched Steven Spielberg's E.T. the other day for the first time since childhood, and it's so obvious that this show wouldn't exist if that movie didn't come first. This looks like a fantastic mystery with a great tone to it, and my hope is that it doesn't fall into the same trap a lot of Netflix shows fall into, which is that thing where it takes six or seven episodes before it starts to really get good. Fingers crossed this one starts with a bang and keeps up the pace from the very beginning.

Stranger Things will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 15th.

A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80's, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine.

Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden) serve as writer, directors and co-showrunners of the series, and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via their 21 Laps entertainment banner (The Spectacular Now, Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night). Shawn Levy also serves as director. Stranger Things is a Netflix original series.

Imagine meeting your hero and collaborating on a project together. That would be intimidating, right? It's enough to give me anxiety as I listen to Walton Goggins tell an on-set story from HBO's Vice Principals in which Bill Murray gave him acting advice. Watch the clip and read on below:

Could you imagine?! Bill Murray being an asshole to you would be about as horrifying as it would be awesome! I would probably spend days thinking about that brief encounter and over analyzing the hell out of it! I'm sure Goggins is still thinking about it right now!

Terrence Malick's VOYAGE OF TIME Trailer: Now Here's Something Worth Seeing in IMAX

$

I love seeing movies in IMAX theaters (real IMAX, none of that LieMAX nonsense), but I find there aren't very many movies a year that are truly worth seeing on a screen that big. I'll always try to see Christopher Nolan films on IMAX screens because he often shoots with IMAX cameras, and occasionally I'll see a big superhero blockbuster like BvS or Civil War in that format just to bask in the hugeness of it all. But movies that DEMAND to be seen on IMAX screens are few and far between.

Terrence Malick's Voyage of Time just jumped to the top of the list. The film — his first documentary, which takes us on a trip through the past, present, and future of the universe's history — has the feel of those early IMAX documentaries, and even in the trailer, you can tell the footage they captured here is absolutely stunning. Brad Pitt narrates this 40-minute version of the movie, which will only be available in IMAX theaters on October 7, and Cate Blanchett narrates a longer, 90-minute version that's actually called Voyage of Time: Life's Journey.

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close-and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world … and beyond. A labor of love from one of American cinema’s most acclaimed and visually exciting filmmakers, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Voyage of Time has been nearly four decades in the making and represents the filmmaker’s first foray into documentary storytelling. The film’s panorama of awe-inspiring images will take you into the heart of monumental events never witnessed — from the birth of the stars and galaxies to the explosion of diverse life-forms on planet earth, including humankind — in immersive new ways that only IMAX can deliver. This is a cosmic experience — a hymn to the glories of nature, life and scientific discovery — in which all the elements come together to form Malick’s most original film to date.
Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience, a 40-minute, giant-screen adventure narrated by Brad Pitt, which immerses audiences directly into the story of the universe and life itself, will be shown exclusively in IMAX® theatres.

What Secret Movie is Peter Jackson Working On For Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment?

$

I'm thrilled Peter Jackson is finished with his disappointing Hobbit trilogy, because that means he can finally move on to other projects outside the realm of Middle Earth. And thanks to Steven Spielberg, we know he's hard at work on something right now...but we just aren't sure exactly what that movie is yet.

Spielberg gave an interview to the New Zealand version of Time Out magazine and mentioned Jackson's new film, as well as confirming that Jackson will direct a second installment in the Tintin franchise:

"Peter was so busy with The Hobbit that it took him away from Tintin and he's doing another film for my company now. It's a secret, nobody knows about it. Then after that he'll do Tintin."

We know Tintin is something both directors are passionate about and Jackson has wanted to make a sequel for years, but what is this mysterious secret movie Spielberg mentioned? We don't have any inside info about this, but there are a few possibilities. One option could be Mortal Engines, a steampunk sci-fi project Jackson was developing years ago. The plot for that sounds absolutely nuts, and you can read all about it here. It's also possible Jackson cracked the story for his adaptation of Temeraire, which he originally wanted to turn into a TV series (read all about that one here). He and partner Fran Walsh could have fit the story into a film screenplay, but frankly, it seems more likely that they'd be encouraged by the success of Game of Thrones and be even more convinced that the huge story deserves to be told across multiple seasons of television instead.

So what else could it be? There's always a chance it's a total mystery (which would be kind of fun, wouldn't it?), but the New Zealand Herald speculates that it could be a World War II RAF air raid bombing movie called The Dam Busters, or a movie called As Nature Made Him, which is "the story of Canadian man David Reimer who was raised a female after a botched circumcision when he was aged just seven months." Jackson has also mentioned wanting to direct something smaller in scope after The Hobbit, getting back to projects the size of Heavenly Creatures, so it could be something along those lines, too.

What would you like to see Jackson direct next?

The team at Omaze is at it again. For their latest campaign, they've recruited Jason Bourne star Matt Damon, who's raising money for Water.org, to prank unsuspecting randos at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles and give away tickets to the premiere of the new film.

Some of these people's reactions seem a little too good to be true (as in, I wonder if after the jig was up, Omaze fed them certain lines and added those to the situation in post-production in order to beef up the comedy), but for the most part, it's a humorous prank that you might like watching.

Jason Bourne hits theaters on July 29, 2016.

Watch: The Philosophy of Bill Murray's Approach to Comedy

$

I'm in the middle of reading Judd Apatow's book Sick in the Head, a collection of interviews Apatow has conducted with comedians and funny people over the years. During an interview with Ghostbusters star Harold Ramis, Apatow asked him what it was like to work with Bill Murray, and as part of his answer, Ramis shared this fantastic anecdote:

I've seen a total stranger come up to Bill on the street in New York: "Bill, love you on Saturday Night [Live]!" He says, "You motherfucker, I'm going to bite your nose!" He wrestles him to the ground — total stranger — and bites his nose.

I'd never heard that story before and thought it was hilarious, and it loosely applies to this video from Wisecrack about Murray's approach to comedy. It's a good watch if you're a Murray fan (and really...who isn't?).
