Another Absurdly Bizarre Trailer for Kevin Smith’s YOGA HOSERS

If you’re not already sold on Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, this new trailer isn’t going to change your mind. In fact, this is trailer make the movie look even dumber than the first trailer that was released. For the most part, I find things to enjoy in Smith’s films. I’m pretty open minded about what he makes, but I hated this movie. The one thing in it that I actually enjoyed was a very brief cameo by Kevin Conroy, but it doesn’t make the film worth seeing. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the trailer! According to Smith, the movie was made for tween girls, yet I don’t know a single tween girl that wants to see this movie. Hell, none of my daughter’s friends have ever even heard of it. If you haven’t read my review yet, you can check it out here. This is one of those films that will make you stupider if you watch it.

15-year-old yoga-nuts Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie love their smart phones and hate their after school job at Manitoban convenience store Eh-2-Zed. But when an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with the legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe to fight for their lives with all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time. Depp, Depp the Younger and Smith the younger are returning in the roles they created for "Tusk."

The movie stars Harley Quinn Smith, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, Johnny Depp, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Mewes, Justin Long, Vanessa Paradis, and some stupid-ass bratwurst Nazi bitches. Yoga Hosers will be released on July 29th. Maybe Smith will start making good films again after this one doesn’t make any money.

Wild and Crazy Photos of Kids Cosplaying THE WALKING DEAD Characters

crazy-photos-of-kids-cosplaying-the-walking-dead-characters

I’ve got an interesting series of cosplay photos for you to check out today that feature a group of cosplaying characters from The Walking Dead. These photos were taken by Mother Hubbard Photography from New Jersey, and they are pretty brutal yet at the same time adorable... in a twisted kind of way.

The photographer rounded up 24 kids who are all under the age of seven and dressed them up as characters from the highly acclaimed show and even recreated some memorable scenes from the series. Some of the characters include Rick, Abraham, Carol, Maggie, Glenn, Sasha, Carl, lots of zombies, and even Negan with his Lucille baseball bat of death.

Some people might think these are inappropriate for a number of reasons, especially when they are pointing guns at each other. I’m not one to be easily offended by this kind of stuff, but I know there are some people out there that will give this photographer a lashing. I just think it was all done in good fun. For those of you who don't approve the photographer says:

"These are MY children and their friends let's be respectful here. And those of you who don't like it... Don't look at it. There a million different disclaimers and fb made it so you have to actively go out of your way to view the photo, so if you chose to ignore the warnings and disclaimers and click the photo, don't come crying to me if you don't like it..."

The Next FRIDAY THE 13TH Film Will Introduce Jason’s Dad

Last week we learned that the upcoming Friday The 13th film will explore the origin of Jason Voorhees. It was speculated that Jason’s dad might be a part of that story, and now that speculation has been confirmed.

Platinum Dune’s Brad Fuller previously explained, “You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”

He said it would include Jason’s mom, Pamela, and that it would be little different from what we’ve seen before. Movies. Birth. Death. are now reporting that Jason’s dad, Elias Voorhees, will finally make his big screen debut. They explain:

The original ending of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives had Elias visiting Jason's (empty) grave. He's obliquely referenced in Jason Goes To Hell, which introduces Jason's half-sister (she has to be Elias' daughter because Pamela called Jason her only child. Not that continuity means that much in these films...). And he was depicted in a comic book called Friday the 13th: Pamela's Tale, which was sort of an origin story for Pamela Voorhees in which she chopped him to pieces because he was abusive.

I doubt this movie will follow the comic book story line, but either way, bringing Elias into the story of Jason is intriguing. I’m curious to see what they will do with him and what his involvement with Jason’s life will be. I’ve been a fan of Friday the 13th since I snuck off with some friends and watched the first film when I was a kid. I really didn’t care for the 2009 film, but with Elias being included in this next chapter, I'm kinda looking forward to it.

Hidden Mickeys and Easter Eggs Revealed in ZOOTOPIA

Zootopia recently crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office, which is a pretty big deal. You know, because a billion dollars is a lot of freakin’ money. It also makes the film the second biggest original movie ever.

For those of you who may not know, “Hidden Mickeys” are a big thing with Disney. They are snuck into almost every movie that they make. They are also placed all around their theme parks for fans to find. The hidden Mickey design is basically a silhouette of Mickey Mouse and today we have a video pointing out all of the hidden Mickeys that were thrown into Zootopia

I’ve also included a video from Flicks in the City that point out all of the other Easter eggs and references that were placed in the film for fans to enjoy. There’s some fun stuff that I didn’t notice while watching the movie. Check out both videos below!

New International Trailer for GHOSTBUSTERS - "Ghosts Are Real! Ghosts Are Real!"

We've got another international trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters to share with you today, and it's probably not going to change your mind about this movie. It's interesting to see how much hate is being spewed at this movie. Regardless of all the things that I've seen that I don't like about it, I'm trying to keep an open mind. The original Ghostbusters is one of my favorite films of all time! I've gotta hold on to some kind of hope that this reboot will be good. If it's not, well... shit. At least I can say I went in wanting it to be good.

This trailer features a bit of new footage in it that includes Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert freaking out and drenched in slime and yelling into her video camera, "Ghosts are real! Ghosts are real!" It also includes Chris Hemsworth as Kevin telling the Ghostbusters that he doesn't believe in ghosts. Then there A Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan being chased by a mannequin that comes to life.

The rest of the cast include Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams, Neil Casey, and Elizabeth Perkins. Also, all the surviving original Ghostbusters will be making cameos. The movie opens up in theaters on July 15th.

Oh! it was also recently announced that Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott will be covering the original Ray Parker Jr. Ghostbusters theme song.

Two Exciting TV Spots for STAR TREK BEYOND

From what I've seen of Star Trek Beyond so far, which includes a few exclusive lengthy clips that were screened at the Star Trek fan event last month, I think this could actually be the best new Star Trek film yet. I've got high hopes for this one, and it looks like Justin Lin, who is a longtime fan of the franchise, will give the rest of us fans something awesome.

Paramount Pictures has released the first two TV spots for the film, and they show off a lot of the action-packed spectacle and intensity that this movie is going to be filled with. One of the main aspects of the story that I like in this film is that Kirk isn't trying to live up to his dad's legacy anymore, he's moving away from being in his father's shadow and fully trying to find himself and the kind of man that he is. That's alluded to in the trailer, but I've seen certain scenes that play into that concept even more, which I thought were great.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22nd.

Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE LEGO Playset Offers Some Possible Spoilers

The amount of times that the packaging for LEGO Marvel movie playsets has leaked online is pretty crazy. Most of the time the packaging reveals details from the movies they represent, and this is once again true for Doctor Strange. It features Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum and includes minifigs of Strange, Baron Mordo, and Wong, who are fighting against some kind of villain. If you don't want to see what this villain looks like don't read beyond this point.

As you can see below, they are fighting against some kind of crazy looking creature with tentacles. We don't actually know what this creature is or who is responsible for unleashing it, but it invades the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorum and attacks Strange, Wong, and Baron Mordo.

In the comics, Strange fought a tentacled demon named Shuma-Gorath. I have no idea if this is a version of that villain or not. It is one of the most powerful adversaries of Strange, and it is seemingly impossible to permanently destroy this evil god. He is described as "an ancient force of chaos, the immortal, nigh-invincible and godlike ruler of nearly a hundred alternate universes, capable of energy projection, shapeshifting, teleportation, levitation, altering reality, and sympathetic magic among many other feats. He is described as being vastly more powerful than other mighty demonic enemies... and is capable of automatically destroying multiple galaxies through aura-pressure alone."

It would be pretty awesome if this ended up being Shuma-Gorath, but we'll just have to wait and see. This is all just speculation on my part, but it's the only tentacled demon that I can think of that makes sense for Strange to fight. Check out the image below and tell us what you think.

Duncan Jones Discusses What He Wanted to Accomplish With WARCRAFT

Duncan Jones and Blizzard’s Warcraft film went above and beyond what I thought this movie was going to be. It could have easily turned out to be a complete disaster, but it didn’t! Warcraft is a well-crafted fantasy action film that is unlike any other fantasy film that has been made before. You can read my review of the film here if you haven’t already.

I had the opportunity to attend a press conference with the director and some of the cast of the film, and Jones talked about what his goals were for Warcraft and what he wanted to accomplish. When talking about why he decided to jump on board the project to write and direct it in the first place he said:

“I think one of the things, science fiction in particular, has had a number of different sub-genres over the years. Whether you have a gritty film like Black Runner, 2001, A.I., or Adjustment Bureau. There’s a big spectrum of what science fiction can be, and in fantasy the kind of gorilla in the room is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The original one by Peter Jackson. It kind of feels like the spectrum of what is fantasy is much smaller than it is in science fiction. So I love the opportunity to maybe try and do a film, which would hopefully reach the same bar as Lord of the Rings, but give fantasy a little bit of a new voice and a new feel and that’s what we tried to do with Warcraft.”

Lord of the Rings is considered to be one of the greatest fantasy film franchises ever adapted for the big screen. Jones explained how he wanted to make Warcraft different and stand on its own:

“The Lord of the Ring really set the bar as to what fantasy films should be. Like I said, I think fantasy has got a much smaller set of films which are really the things that you aspire to make when you make a fantasy film. Peter Jackson, I mean I’ve been out there, and the workshops the studio, everything there is just phenomenal, what’s down there. And then obviously the landscapes in New Zealand lend themselves to this fantasy story telling. We wanted to find a way to do it differently. To give you guys a little bit of a rival. It would be nice if there was a little bit of a rival out there for fantasy films. So we just wanted to create a spectacle and give it an energy that was a bit different but hopefully achieved the same level of success.”

I honestly think he accomplished that. I believe there are going to be some people out there who will think this movie is on par or even better than The Lord of the Rings, and that’s a great thing to have. It’s awesome to build new fantasy franchise fanbase! The director went on to discuss hitting a high standard of quality for the film saying:

“This is a film with a whole different level of anything I’ve done before. When I made Moon from writer it to finishing the film was 12 months. That was everything done. This film was three and a half year of my life, so it’s really more like a marathon then any kind of traditional film. But I think maintaining that… we’re striving to make something that is amazing in all qualities whether it’s the wardrobe, the set design, working with this amazing cast of actors. All the time you try to push them to do the best work they can. I’m grateful that everyone just kind of stuck with me and that we were all able to believe in making the same thing. We all had the same ambition to make this work.”

They did make it work. They gave us such an incredible film that was both epic in scale but also told an intimate story of survival. When talking about adapting the film from the game franchise Jones said:

“We went right back to the very beginning of those games and the first story of the Orcs and the humans, you know, that first contact moment, the first meeting of these two cultures. Now in this storytelling from the games there are characters that we use in our film but they were probably painted in such broad brushstrokes as far as who those characters were and it was my job and absolutely the actor jobs to find a way to add the detail, put in the nuance, and add the humanity and depth to these characters. But with the way the script is structured, I think the relationships made sense, you understood who was effected by who and what they’re relationships were. We tried to put in as many family ties and things that really grounded it and gave it a reality as we could. It’s really a testament to the amazing cast of actors that I had the chance to work with that it actually feels like real people.”

He expanded a bit more on the rich and complex characters in the story and how he made them work for the story, saying:

“It’s a bit of a structural juggle, it was always going to be a challenge and I like those kinds of challenges. But I think what Lord of the Rings and Tolkien did so well and kind of established in those books and films was something which is now maybe feels a little bit dated. The idea that the humans and the good looking character were all the good guys and the monsters are all the bad guys. That worked then and now we have an opportunity to try something different and the idea that all the races have heroes in them, their perspectives are all completely reasonable if you look at things through their eyes.”

Warcraft comes out this week on June 10th, and I really hope you go out to see it. For some reason, some people aren’t liking the movie, but don’t let that sway you. This is truly a fantastic film that I really hope is a success.

Rumor: The Elder Scrolls: SKYRIM Remaster To Be Announced At E3

This DEADPOOL VFX Reel Shows the Process of Ryan Reynolds' Uglification

There's a ton of VFX work that went into bringing Deadpool to life on the big screen. Rodeo FX created 215 of those VFX shots for the movie, and they've released a reel showing off some of their work on the movie. They helped in the process of turning Ryan Reynolds into one ugly and gross looking dude. When talking about the process of that on their main website they said:

The mutation introduced into Wilson’s body changes the structure of his skin and, once he becomes Deadpool, he is hideous to look at without his tight red Spandex. Brinton and his team did concepts for skin decomposition at different stages, using time-lapse photography of rotting vegetables and meat for inspiration. They found that the production plates were too dark to show the subtleties of what they wanted to do, so they added more detail and shape to the skin, modeling with ZBrush, doing lighting passes, and finally compositing in the textures. “This was my favorite sequence to work on and the most satisfying,” said Brinton. “I knew we’d nailed it when the people around me in the theater gasped in disgust when they saw Deadpool’s skin mutation.” Wilson is held in a torture chamber during this transformation, then escapes as the room burns to the ground. This scene was shot continually in one room that had been fitted with gas pipes emitting flames, making the usual practice of submitting individual shots for approval inefficient and awkward. Instead, Rodeo FX asked to submit the finished sequence in its entirety to Rothbart. This meant that every shot in the submitted sequence had to be final, with all shots at the same level of quality. “At first this was nerve wracking for us and, I imagine, for the production team,” Brinton said. “But we knew that this was the most efficient way to complete this scene and it worked perfectly.”

You can watch the video below, and then head over the RodeoFX.com to read more details on creating some of these visual effects such as the Helicarrier crash sequence. Check it out!

Jeff Goldblum Discusses His THOR: RAGNAROK Role as The Grandmaster

A couple weeks ago it was announced that Jeff Goldblum had joined the cast of Thor: Ragnarok. It was a pleasant surprise that no one saw coming. He will be taking on the role of The Grandmaster in the movie.

From Marvel's wiki we learn that The Grandmaster is an immortal being who is one of the oldest in the universe. He's described as follows:

The Grandmaster has spent his extraordinary long life in pursuit of amusement through the playing of games. He has traveled throughout the known universe studying many civilizations’ forms of games and play to the point of mastering them. He then began to devise his own types of tournaments and contests, challenging various opponents to games of skill and chance for high stakes.

While speaking with Empire, Goldblum talked a little bit about what we can expect from his character, saying:

“He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!’ I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching.” He’s putting his unique Goldblum stamp on the role, too. “[Taika Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”

Goldblum is going to be awesome in the role, and I imagine he'll end up being an unforgettable character in the film because almost all of the characters has Goldblum played are unforgettable! It's rumored that Thor: Ragnarok will include some elements from the Planet Hulk storyline and that Goldblum’s Grandmaster will be running gladiatorial games that Hulk and Thor might find themselves in.

Goldblum went on to say he is only scheduled to film for “three weeks or a month” while the movie is in production in Austrailia. I can't wait to see this movie, and it's going to be fun to see how Goldblum makes the character his own and how he brings The Grandmaster to life on the big screen.

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 3rd, 2017.

Last night was the world premiere of Duncan Jones' upcoming fantasy masterpiece Warcraft. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis was invited to the premiere and she showed up all decked out in Orc cosplay! While she was there, she took pictures with fans, the cast of the film, and even recorded a video of herself paying tribute to the legendary Leeroy Jenkins meme.

This isn't the first time Curtis has cosplayed at an event. She has gone to a few video game conventions over the years dressed up as certain characters. Earlier this year, she attended BlizzCon as one of the Forsaken from World of Warcraft. She has also cosplayed as Vega from Street Fighter at the fighting game tournament EVO.

Curtis is a fangirl who is a longtime fan of the Warcraft franchise, and it's awesome to see her show support and fandom for the game and the film when she attends events like this. You can check out the video and a couple more photos below.

James Wan Says He Had a Choice Between Directing AQUAMAN or THE FLASH

James Wan had to choose between directing Aquaman or The Flash according to an interview with Uproxx. Most people would pick The Flash no question (I know I would), and while Wan is a fan, he says the decision came down to "creating a new universe"...

The thing that ultimately pushed me more towards Aquaman is I love the possibility of creating a whole new world. I’ve always wanted to do a world creation story and visually create this amazing, incredible, magical kingdom. And also, I love the fact that Aquaman is an underdog character. I love the fact that people like to make fun of him. [Laughs.] I feel the bar is a lot lower and I can have fun with him!

Wan says he likes the fact that Aquaman is considered a joke, and thinks that will give him some creative liberties with the character...

Yeah, exactly. Everyone makes fun of him! And I actually don’t mind that! What it allows me to do: I think people are a lot less precious with him than, let’s say, you were doing a Spider-Man or a Batman or whatever.

I'm not so sure about all that. I think ten years ago in a less geek conscious world or Family Guy skit people believed Aquaman to be garbage, but is that still the case? I don't know about you guys, but the Aquaman I grew up most familiar with had long hair and a spear arm, and there was nothing about that I found uncool.

I have faith in Wan as he's a talented director, but I hope this "creative liberties" trend isn't going to set the tone for the DC Cinematic universe. Can't we have some consistency between comics, shows and movies?!

SUPERGIRL Stuntwoman Destroys AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR Course In Wonder Woman Costume

It's grossly underestimated how athletic you need to be to become a stuntperson. This is especially true when you're doing stunts for some of the biggest superhero shows on television! Jessie Graff has been a stuntwoman on Supergirl, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and many other action films, and now she's an American Ninja Warrior!

Graff absolutely destroyed the new American Ninja Warrior course and became the first woman to do so! Congrats Jessie!

Side note: What's that Wonder Woman gear about?! Is she teasing another stunt cameo?! Thanks i09 for the heads up.

Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy Are Reuniting For a Fake Documentary For Netflix

$

0

Following a string of misfires, critical failures, and box office disappointments, it looks like Eddie Murphy is preparing to star in another movie. But for those of you hoping that it might be a triumphant return, temper your expectations: Brett Ratner is directing.

THR says the two — who previously worked together on 2011's Tower Heist — are reteaming for Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story, a fake documentary about an iconic '60s soul singer named Murray Murray (Murphy). The logline: "After a hot new artist samples his hit 1962 song, Murray attempts to get his old band back together in the hopes of taking down hip-hop." That could be promising, but Ratner being behind the camera is a massive red flag. He's much better at producing and financing films than he is directing them, and Murphy seems to have completely lost whatever star power he once had. (The script comes from writer Chris Case, who created things like Sin City Saints and Legit, neither of which I've ever heard of.)

This project is being developed by Netflix, which at one point may have been enough to convince me of its potential quality. But with the proliferation of its Adam Sandler "comedies" and crap like Fuller House, a brand that used to be synonymous with high quality entertainment is becoming more and more diluted.

Review: DON'T THINK TWICE is a Love Letter to Improv Comedy (L.A. Film Fest 2016)

$
0
0

Eddie Murphy. Will Ferrell. Bill Murray. The list of supremely talented improvisers who’ve made it big in Hollywood is extensive, but no one has ever made a movie that takes the audience inside the subculture of modern improv and investigates the often complicated relationships between its comedians. Mike Birbiglia has changed that with his sophomore directorial feature Don’t Think Twice, a love letter to the art form that also functions as an exploration of creativity, loyalty, and maturation.

Birbiglia plays Miles, the founding member of an NYC-based improv troupe called The Commune that performs regularly in a local comedy club. He auditioned for Weekend Live (the film’s stand-in for Saturday Night Live) over a decade ago and didn’t get the job, but like all of the improvisers in The Commune, he’s still harboring dreams of getting hired there. The rest of the group includes a lanky and talented former student of Miles’ named Jack (Keegan-Michael Key); Jack’s girlfriend Sam (Gillian Jacobs), who serves as host when they’re all on stage; an aspiring illustrator named Allison (Kate Micucci); Bill (Chris Gethard), who’s hoping for the acceptance of his father; and Lindsay (Tami Sagher), whose wealthy parents make her the odd woman out when it comes to living the life of a struggling artist like the rest of her colleagues.

The film’s conflicts all dovetail around the same time: one of the group gets the big break they all wanted for themselves, Bill’s father suffers an accident, and the group’s beloved comedy club is slated to be shut down. All three events force them to snap into focus and figure out if continuing to do improv is a viable choice.

While most of the big moments belong to Key, Jacobs, and Birbiglia (who are all solid), Gethard sort of sneaks up on you by bringing a quiet desperation to his performance that reminded me a little of Paul Leiberstein (Tobey) on The Office. He spends a lot of the film time grappling with his dad’s accident, but Bill delivers what may be the most moving lines in the whole movie when he explains how, in the outside world, he’s treated like he doesn’t exist, but he knows he’s part of something bigger (The Commune) that offers him transcendent moments on stage. But without improv, he says, he’s kind of a loser. That’s just one example of the sort of human moments Birbiglia captures here, and it’s indicative of the way he cuts to the soul of the internal clash between art and commerce. The movie is about improv comedy, but that’s just a framework for its larger points; anyone with any creative passion should be able to easily relate to the successes and failures in this movie, and even to the twinges of jealousy that come when a friend in the same field gets an opportunity you desperately wanted.

Full of realism, humor, and brutal honesty, Don’t Think Twice isn’t afraid to tackle some of the hard truths about comedy, but it also isn’t a total downer; there’s a nice streak of optimism buried in all of this reality, and though Birbiglia is far from a flashy director, the authenticity and empathy with which he captures this previously unseen world is the movie’s best quality.

We still have a ways to wait until we see a Justice League Dark feature film, but it appears an animated film is right around the corner! While it hasn't been confirmed by Warner Bros, i09 has spotted a rating given for an 8-minute featurette teasing the feature in the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke film.

The bad news is that it's possible there are some issues with the live-action adaptation if the animated series is making its way out now. Let's hope that's not the case! I want to see Constantine on the big screen again!
