Stylish New CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR IMAX Posters

$

Joey absolutely loved Captain America: Civil War, and he's not alone: critics have been raving about it ever since the first screenings let out, and though I'm still a little trepidatious about the idea of so many characters being stuffed into one film, I'm excited to see it for myself.

AMC has released three new stylish IMAX posters (via ComingSoon) that fans will be able to acquire during the first three Sundays of the movie's release (May 8th, 15th, and 22nd). Matt Ferguson is the artist responsible for these, and we love his art here at the site. He delved into the MCU before by creating the artwork for the Phase 2 Blu-ray box set, a teaser poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and more.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th.

James Gunn Names Two FANTASTIC FOUR Characters He'd Want To See in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequels

Fans thought it was impossible that we'd ever see Spider-Man join Marvel Studios' Cinematic Universe because that character was licensed out by Sony Pictures, but enough things eventually fell into place for that deal to come through, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that it might happen again.

Writer/director James Gunn — who is very active on Facebook — recently recorded a video in which he revealed two Fantastic Four character he'd want to play with in Guardians of the Galaxy sequels:

I probably wouldn’t add Ben Grimm to the Guardians team even if they were a part of the MCU. And of course I would love the FF to be a part of the MCU…Fox owns so many great villains and cosmic characters I would love to play around with including Annihilus — and I think they own Kang.

So who are Annihilus and Kang? Annihilus is an insect-looking winged ruler who brandishes a Cosmic Control Rod and apparently rivals Thanos in strength. He also possesses speed, stamina, durability, and agility, which makes him a nightmare for heroes like the Fantastic Four.

Kang the Conqueror is a power-hungry time traveller who has a complicated history, but over the years he's faced off against the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. The time travel aspect would cause a ton of headaches in the MCU, so if either of these were to appear in a Marvel Studios movie, it seems more likely it'd be Annihilus.

It's improbable that these two studios would agree to share characters in their movies any time soon, but since last year's Fantastic Four movie was such a big disappointment for Fox, I suppose anything could happen.

Honest Trailer For SUPERMAN RETURNS

$

ScreenJunkies is back with a new Honest Trailer, and thanks to the winner of their Batman v Superman showdown, they've turned their attention to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. I remember being disappointed with this movie when it first came out because Superman doesn't throw a single punch in the whole film, and rewatching it for a huge Superman Blu-ray review I did for the site a few years ago, I pretty much came to that same conclusion. Here's a section from that review:

Speed and power are portrayed much better through the development of technology since '78, Brandon Routh was fantastic, and the plane crash sequence is really solid, but beyond that, there really isn't much to say about this movie that separates it from its homage qualities. The whole subplot with the kid never sat well with me, though in a big reveal it's implied this was Superman's child from when he had sex with Lois in the Fortress of Solitude in Superman II. Regardless of whether that decision makes sense in continuity, it's such a cliched story point that never goes anywhere and just falls flat. We go nearly two hours of screen time before Lex even sees Superman, and when he does, it's anticlimatic. That's actually the whole problem with this movie, I think - it's anticlimatic.

So while I like this movie's intentions, it's hard to actually defend it against the critiques leveled at it here. Enjoy.

HARDCORE HENRY Recapped in Amusing Speedrun Animation

The team at 1A4 Studios has another animated speedrun video for us, and this time they're shining a light on the "wonderfully insane" first person POV action thriller Hardcore Henry. After watching this and the awesome behind-the-scenes footage that came out a few days ago, I may have to actually give this movie a shot one of these days. At the very least, those who are on the fence about seeing this movie might be able to get a better sense of what actually happens in the film, since this particular video isn't told from a first person perspective.

Warning: this video contains spoilers.

New Info on BILL & TED 3, Which Is Reportedly Set in the UK

After years of talk and work to develop a script for Bill & Ted 3, it looks like it’s actually getting close to production. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been very vocal about how excited they are for this movie, and in a recent interview with Forbes, Winter says it’s only a matter of time. He says:

“We’re working on the film every day at the moment in terms of the pre-prep-type work, so it’s an active project.”

He went on to say, “We have a script, we have a director, we have a studio — we’re just trying to nail down a start date.” He hopes to start production next year. In a separate report with The Sun inside sources are saying that the film reportedly takes place in the UK. They say:

"The whole film is going to have a huge British feel.... They’ll time-travel through London and meet historical figures, meaning the Queen and Winston Churchill could get cameos."

In a previous interview, he opened up about the story, saying:

"It's kind of like… I call it 'gravity,' you have to get this mass together to make it happen. In terms of the writers' voices being too peculiar, in this case no. I think they've really crafted something that's funny. [Bill and Ted have] been weighed down by the burden of having to save the world by the song, and they just can't write it. They're losing their wives and their children, they're losing their families.
"Yeah, they're just like, 'Dude, we have to write the song!' The future comes back and says if you don't write the song by this certain time the universe is going to unravel and history and everything is going to change and dinosaurs are gonna walk the Earth. Jesus is playing baseball! All sorts of weird things start unraveling and wormholes are twisting. We have to kind of bring order back, and it's connected into bringing our families together by writing a song."

He even offered a scene description from the film:

"It's edgy. There's a great scene where Bill and Ted are in jail and we're seeing our future us's and they're all tatted and hard. They're like, [tough sounding] 'What's up, dude? Hey dude. Hey guy.' 'Stop calling me dude!' They want to beat up Bill and Ted because they've inherited the life that they f**ked up. They're miserable and they hate Bill and Ted. There's some funny stuff!"

Bill & Ted 3 is a project that I’m very excited about, and I have high hopes for it. I think it’s going to deliver some great comedy that fans of the franchise are going to love.

Update: Turns out this is a fan-made poster that originated at DeviantArt. Diesel shared a teaser poster for the movie back in January with the title Fast 8 instead of Furious 8, but the film has yet to receive an official title. Original article follows.

Vin Diesel has released a new teaser poster for Fast 8. It features Dominic Toretto solemnly standing as a lone wolf waiting to get the gang back together for another wild action-adventure.

The movie is being directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and it also stars Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Kurt Russell, and Eva Mendes, and Lucas Black could end up in the film as well.

The movie is set to take place in New York City this time around, which should make for some very interesting and cool car chase sequences. The movie is set to be released on April 14th, 2017.

First Trailer for THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Rides In with Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington

Sony Pictures and MGM have released the first trailer for director Antoine Fuqua's remake of the 1960 western classic, The Magnificent Seven. Fuqua reteamed with his Training Day stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke for the film, and he also managed to wrangle an impressive ensemble cast for the film that includes Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, and Haley Bennett

I saw the first footage last week at CinemaCon, but now you can get a taste of the film yourself. I think the movie looks like it will be a blast. It's definitely going to deliver some fun entertainment. You'll see for yourself when you watch the action-packed trailer that has a classic yet modern kind of feel to it.

With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

The Magnificent Seven opens September 23rd.

I WANT MY MTV Is Being Adapted into a Feature Film by James Ponsoldt

A24 has secured the rights to the book I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, and they’ve set James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour) as the director.

The book was written by Rob Tannenbaum and Craig Marks, and it was published in 2011. It takes the readers through a the birth and rise of the popular cable channel. I use to watch MTV all of the time in the early '90s. It was the golden age of MTV. I thought the music videos they made were so cool, and of course, the girls in the music videos were sexy as hell. MTV has since changed, and now I just see it as a joke. I haven’t watched MTV in years.

The story in the book is, for the most part, told through interviews and anecdotes from MTV’s creators and the musical artists whose videos appeared on it. Here is an official synopsis for the book:

Remember the first time you saw Michael Jackson dance with zombies in “Thriller”? Diamond Dave karate kick with Van Halen in “Jump”? Tawny Kitaen turning cartwheels on a Jaguar to Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again”? The Beastie Boys spray beer in “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)”? Axl Rose step off the bus in “Welcome to the Jungle”? Remember When All You Wanted Was Your MTV? It was a pretty radical idea-a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV’s programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties. From its start in 1981 with a small cache of videos by mostly unknown British new wave acts to the launch of the reality-television craze with The Real World in 1992, MTV grew into a tastemaker, a career maker, and a mammoth business. Featuring interviews with nearly four hundred artists, directors, VJs, and television and music executives, I Want My MTV is a testament to the channel that changed popular culture forever.

Brett Ratner was originally attached to direct the project, but thankfully that’s not happening. Ponsoldt is a much better filmmaker. Here is some additional information from the press release we were sent:

“I Want MY MTV” chronicles the founding and first 10 years of the network, a golden era in both music and television where MTV became the emblem of a new generation. The network was a radical idea that no one thought would succeed; but what started as a channel showcasing videos from obscure British bands soon transformed into a cultural sensation that tapped directly into the imagination and spirit of contemporary teenagers. The same passionate, reckless young group that built the company ushered it into a global phenomenon that deeply influenced everything from movies, music, and television to fashion, sports, and politics.
The film will be a fun, immersive look at the network’s rise, and will weave the book’s testimonials into a thrilling and celebratory account of this one-of-a-kind cultural moment.
About the project, A24 said “We’re so thrilled to be collaborating again with James Ponsoldt to bring this terrific book to the screen. With James on board, we know he’ll bring out all the passion, ingenuity, humor, and humanity that led to MTV becoming perhaps the most powerful influence on pop culture of all time.”
Filmmaker James Ponsoldt says, “As a child of the 1980’s, MTV had a massive impact on me, and I’m so excited to again be working with my friends at A24 in exploring the storied early years of the groundbreaking channel.”

I’ll be looking forward to this!

The MPAA Slaps Kevin Smtih’s YOGA HOSERS With an R-Rating and Smith Responds With Appeal

As much as I enjoy most of Kevin Smith’s films, Yoga Hosers is easily the worst film he’s made. I didn’t like it at all, and you can read my review here. The MPAA recently slapped an R-rating on the movie because of “a cartoony drawing of testicles.”

Even though I didn’t like the movie, I didn’t think that it would get an R rating as it’s pretty tame compared to Smith's other films. The target market for Smith’s film is tween girls, so one, I obviously wasn’t the target market for the movie, and two, he made it so that it would get a PG-13 rating.

Smith recently took to his Instagram page to share his thoughts on the matter and also announced that he will appeal the rating. He said:

"The #MPAA gave my kids movie @YogaHosers an R rating for a cartoony drawing of testicles on a book cover. So now, for the 4th time in my 22 year career, we will hold an appeals screening with the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board and try to get the R overturned for a less severe (and far more appropriate) PG-13. I also ran afoul of the MPAA the first time I made a movie set in a convenience store, when they initially slapped Clerks with an NC-17 rating for language. Back then, Harvey Weinstein hired mega-lawyer Alan Dershowitz and turned our rating appeal into a Free Speech case. But on the day of the actual appeals screening, it was just me and the Miramax lawyer getting up in front of the appeals folks to argue for a less restrictive rating without having to change or trim any shots. We won that day and Clerks received the R rating without a single cut. The next two occasions I fought an MPAA rating was on Jersey Girl (won a PG-13 instead of the R they gave us) and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (which went from an NC-17 to an R, without cuts). I don't mind doing this dance with the MPAA a fourth time (hey - at least they even OFFER an appeals screening) but this #YogaHosers R rating is riDONKulous. The core audience for the flick is tween girls (it's Clueless meets Gremlins!), so I refrained from salty language to make a totally kid-friendly movie. And while it's a "horror" movie, there's no blood on display: when our Bratzi bad guys get killed, concentrated sauerkraut explodes everywhere - not guts or entrails. Honestly, this movie is TAME (or "lame" according to some reviews). Even so, next week I'll screen the flick for the MPAA appeals audience and, lawyer-like, plead my case for why the film is really PG-13 - all so that I can keep the graffiti drawing of nuts on a fictional library book in my goofy girl-power monster movie. Weird life. Mind you, this is NOT a First Amendment issue at all; instead, it's the very definition of a First World Problem. But before I can tour the movie in June & July and release it in theaters this August, I'm gonna have to win."

I don’t know if I’d call Yoga Hosers a kids movie because it’s got some interestingly jacked up stuff in it, but whatever, Smith's definition of a kids movie is different than mine. In the embed below you can find the testicles in question, which definitely do not warrant an R-rating. I hope he wins the appeal because that’s just absurd.

Amusing Japanese Trailer for FINDING DORY Is Loaded with New Footage

Disney has released a Japanese trailer for Pixar's Finding Dory that offers us a good amount of new footage to enjoy. The whole thing is in Japanese, and it seems to amplify the enjoyment of the trailer, probably because I watch so much anime. It's just fun to see a Pixar film like this with Japanese voice talent providing the voices to these beloved American characters.

While I was at CinemaCon last week, Disney screened the first 20 minutes of the movie for audiences, and it was great! I really liked Finding Nemo, and it looks like Finding Dory is going to be just as entertaining.

The movie takes place a year after the events of the first film and with the help of Nemo and Marlin (Albert Brooks), Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) embarks on an adventure across the ocean to find her mom and dad, played by Diane Keaton and father Eugene Levy. A lot of the new footage you'll see in this trailer is set in and around the Sea World-like marine park where much of the film’s story takes place in the third act. This is where Dory thinks she will find her parents.

Finding Dory is being directed by Andrew Stanton, and it's set to be released on June 17th, 2016.

Terrifying Art of Martha Wayne as The Joker from Flashpoint

The insane piece of fan art was created by JeeHyung Lee, and it features the Martha Wayne version of The Joker from the Flashpoint alternate universe. In this twisted version of the story, young Bruce Wayne is shot and killed by Joe Chill. Martha isn’t able to cope with the loss so she slices open her cheeks to create a faux smile. It’s a pretty dark and depressing story:

As Joker, she is the nemesis of Batman (Thomas Wayne) and uses Yo-Yo as a henchman. She kidnaps Harvey Dent's son and daughter. Joker kills James Gordon after she tricks him into shooting Harvey's daughter (disguised as the Joker). After Dent's son and daughter are saved, Batman confronts Joker about their son's death. He reveals to Martha that there is a way to rewrite history (as Batman has recently met the Barry Allen) where their son will live although they will die. Realizing that her son will be Batman, Martha flees in horror, falling to her death in the caverns below Wayne Manor.

I love the point of view from the mouth with the Joker sticking the knife inside. It’s a very unsettling and terrifying image and screams awesomeness.

Trailer for Emily Blunt's Mystery Thriller THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

Last year a novel written by Paula Hawkins was released called The Girl on the Train, and I remember that no matter where I went it seemed like people were reading this book. Well, it's now been adapted into a major motion picture by director Tate Taylor (The HelpGet on Up), and it has a great cast that includes Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow, and Laura Prepon.

This looks like a solid movie that will take its audience on a thrilling and intriguing mystery adventure. I haven't read the book, so at this point, I'm just going to wait to see the movie before I see how this story unfolds. The trailer has definitely captured my interest, though!

The story of Rachel Watson's life post-divorce. Every day, she takes the train in to work in London, and every day the train passes by her old house. The house she lived in with her husband, who still lives there, with his new wife and child. As she attempts to not focus on her pain, she starts watching a couple a few houses down -- Megan and Scott Hipwell. She creates a wonderful dream life for them in her head, about how they are a perfect happy family. And then one day, as the train passes, she sees something shocking, filling her with rage. The next day, she wakes up with a horrible hangover, various wounds and bruises, and no memory of the night before. She has only a feeling: something bad happened. Then come the TV reports: Megan Hipwell is missing.

The movie is being produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Universal will release it on October 7th, 2016. You can find a poster for the film below the trailer.

Of course, when you're part of The British Monarchy you get invited to visit the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Princes Harry and William had the opportunity to go to Pinewood Studios to take a look at what director Rian Johnson is creating for the highly anticipated Star Wars sequel. While they were there they took a bunch of photos with the cast and crew including Mark Hamill, Daisey Ridley, John Boyega, BB-8, and Chewbacca.

The photo that stands out the most is the one where Prince Harry is sitting in an A-Wing Fighter with Hamill giving him a little instruction. As many of you already know, the spacecraft made its big screen debut in Return of the Jedi. So it's cool to learn that the ship will be making a comeback.

There's also a fun photo of the two princes playing with lightsabers.  Check out the full set of photos below thanks to The British Monarchy Facebook Page.

X-23 is Rumored to Appear in WOLVERINE 3

$

It looks like there's a chance that another fan-favorite X-Men character will be joining Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) on their adventure in Wolverine 3

SuperHeroHype says that they've heard that the badass mutant X-23 will be making her feature film debut in the James Mangold-directed film. It would be pretty cool if this is actually the case, as maybe she will take on the mantle of Wolverine after Jackman retires from the role. It's hard to think that Fox would try to recast the character, but bringing in X-23 to help fill that void in the X-Men cinematic universe could work.

In case you didn't know, X-23 was created specifically for the X-Men: Evolution animated series, which is where she made her debut. In 2004, she made her Marvel comic book debut and over the years, her popularity has grown.

X-23 is the product of a top-secret program set up to replicate Weapon X, which is the group that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton. X-23 was created in the attempt to clone Wolverine. The first 22 attempts of this cloning process failed, but the 23rd attempt was a success and X-23 was born (that's how she got her code name).

X-23 was later given the name of Laura Kinney, and she has all of the superhero abilities that Wolverine has including super strength, healing factor, quick reflexes, and agility. One of the main differences — other than gender — is that X-23 has two retractable claws that spring out from her hands instead of three. She also has an extra set that comes out of her feet.

This is a character that has played with both the X-Men and X-Force, so she could pop in and out of both those film properties. This is just a rumor for now, but it's a fun rumor that I hope turns out to be true. Would you like to see X-23 finally make her big screen debut? I'd personally love to see an X-23 solo movie directed by Joss Whedon

Wolverine 3 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on March 3, 2017.

Here's How Harrison Ford's Injury Made THE FORCE AWAKENS A Much Better Movie

$

0

If you've read about the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you'll know that even though co-writers J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan had the bones of the story written before they started shooting, it didn't become the movie we know and love until production actually began. We already know that the script originally had Poe Dameron dying near the beginning of the movie, and now we're hearing that Harrison Ford's leg injury turned out to be a major blessing because it gave the writers enough time to recalibrate one of the movie's key relationships.

At the Tribeca Film Festival, Abrams spoke about the changes:

"When I was on the set of the Millennium Falcon and we started to do work with Rey and Finn, the first time we did it, it didn’t work at all. It was much more contentious. I didn’t direct it right. It was set up all wrong, and when Harrison Ford got injured - which was a very scary day - we ended up having a few weeks off, and it was during that time that I really got to look at what we had done and rewrite quite a bit of that relationship. So when we came back to work again, we actually just reshot from the ground up, those scenes. It was an amazingly helpful thing to get these two characters to where they needed to be.”

It obviously sucks that Ford got hurt, but since he ended up being OK, I think fans can breathe a sigh of relief and realize that his injury might have been the saving grace of this movie. Finn and Rey work so wonderfully together as we see them on screen, and while reshooting those scenes probably sucked for the crew, I bet Daisy Ridley — a rookie actor who gave a breakthrough performance in the film — probably benefited immensely from being able to do it over again.

Abrams also addressed the criticism that the movie was a carbon copy of Star Wars: A New Hope by basically saying, yes, of course it was — that was the whole point:

“The weird thing about that movie is that it had been so long since the last one. Obviously the prequels had existed in between and we wanted to, sort of, reclaim the story. So we very consciously - and I know it is derided for this - we very consciously tried to borrow familiar beats so the rest of the movie could hang on something that we knew was Star Wars.
This movie was a bridge and a kind of reminder. The audience needed to be reminded what Star Wars is, but it needed to be established with something familiar, with a sense of where we are going to new lands, which is very much what 8 and 9 do.”

That's basically what I've been saying ever since the movie came out. Abrams and Kasdan had a tremendous amount of pressure to put the franchise back on the right track, and making The Force Awakens reflective of the original trilogy was pretty much the only way to do that. As always, I'm super excited to see what Rian Johnson does with Episode VIII.

Red-Band Trailer For MIKE & DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES

The first trailer for Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates seemed kind of promising because of how it put Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick front and center, but this red-band trailer disappointed me. It gives a better sense of the film's humor by allowing us to see the characters dropping F-bombs left and right, but I just didn't think the jokes were very funny. Obviously that comes down to personal taste, and I'm sure plenty of you will think this is absolutely hilarious. Me? I'm hoping they saved most of the really funny stuff for the movie itself and didn't blow all the best moments in the trailers.

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates hits theaters on July 8th.
