Bucky Takes on the Team in New CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Clip

Joey already wrote a glowing review of Captain America: Civil War. If you need more convincing than our master and commander's word, watch this new clip! We see Bucky taking on a couple Avengers and an extension of the scene in which Bucky takes a shot at Iron Man.

I'm trying to remain skeptical as I've yet to see the movie, but this fight sequence is giving me the same feeling as when I saw Batman smashing guys in Batman v Superman!

Also, sidebar just because I'm hyping a Marvel film doesn't make me a Disney shill! Take off the tinfoil hats.

THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO Is an Essential Action-Adventure for the Entire Family

$

Unlike our good friend Billy, I never watched the original 1966 Thunderbirds Are Go when I was a kid. I did look up the opening credits, and it looks kind of bonkers. I bet the stories were really great, but the puppets of the era didn’t really stand the test of time, I’m sorry to say. This new, updated series is a mix of CG animation and and live-action model sets. Weta built the "bigatures" for the series, and they look great. It looks different than anything else I’ve seen, but I got used to it quickly. And the wonderful voice cast and storytelling makes it easy to get immersed in.

The show follows the adventures of the five Tracy brothers and their allies Brains, Kayo, and Lady Penelope. From their crazy awesome secret island headquarters, the brothers launch (literally) into action as International Rescue, working to save people from danger everywhere from under the ocean to the reaches of outer space. Each brother has his own fantastic rescue vehicle — Thunderbirds 1-5, with Kayo piloting Thunderbird Shadow — and his own fantastic suiting up montage. When danger calls, they literally run to a special, hidden spot on the wall, strap in and are barreling down a track to their vehicle while being robotically suited up. It’s pretty cool. Also pretty cool is the way the swimming pool retracts when they launch the rocket plane. The tech is all provided by Brains, the Q of the group, who clearly loves his job. Lady Penelope, voiced by Rosamund Pike, is their London-based field agent, an aristocrat who does their sleuthing.

The structure of the show is this: some disaster strikes, and the Tracy brothers and their friends work together in some combination to save the underwater lab/space station/city of Taipei. But, smartly, the show also has another layer, an overarching plot/mystery that connects everything. First of all, the father of the dashing Tracys, astronaut Jeff Tracy, is missing, presumed dead. In the first episode, aquanaut Gordon Tracy discovers a beacon that matches the one on the ship Jeff was piloting when he crashed, although it was never recovered. This beacon is linked directly to The Hood, an international crime lord who is intent on taking down the Tracys and International Rescue. Also, someone on the team is hiding a secret connection to The Hood. This whole arc adds an extra does of intrigue to what would otherwise be a totally charming rescue show.

Thunderbirds Are Go is aimed at kids aged 6-11, but as an adult, I can say it is totally enjoyable in a way that a lot of kids shows aren’t. Also, my son just turned four, and this is absolutely his new favorite show, which is saying something, because he is extraordinarily picky. He hates most shows and movies, and he throws tantrums when we make him watch something new. But he is watching my Thunderbirds Are Go screeners on a loop. As a parent, I also appreciate that it is about rescue missions, because it is exciting and intense without exacerbating my son’s natural tendencies toward violence, meaning that when he decides that he is a Thunderbird, he jumps around the furniture a lot but doesn't karate chop me at all.

Thunderbirds Are Go is worth checking out if you are anyone, and if you have kids it is a must-watch. It is the perfect show to watch together as a family. The first two episodes are available to watch now on Amazon Prime, and the rest of the season drops next Friday, April 22. Of course, if you live in the UK, the whole series aired months ago, so you must have watched it by now, right? I’ve seen the first 13 episodes, and I can’t wait to see the rest.

Brothers Prank Their Sister into Thinking There’s a Zombie Apocalypse

I don’t know about you, but I had a lot of fun with my brothers when they got their wisdom teeth removed because of how out of it they were due to the drugs. Well, two brothers took things to an awesome level of hilarity when they pranked their little sister, making her believe that there is a zombie apocalypse. The fun begins after she is picked her up from the dentist's office and on the drive home a fake “Viral Outbreak Warning” played on the radio and from there things escalate and her reaction to everything going on is priceless.

Zapata Racing has created an actual hoverboard called the Flyboard, and it’s pretty much a real life version of Green Goblin’s glider. This thing can fly up to 10,000 feet, and it goes over 90 mph! How freakin’ cool is that?! They even released a video showing it in action, which you can watch below:

Zapata Racing has achieved the dream of mankind and offers you the first video of Franky Zapata flying on the innovation Flyboard® Air.
The Independent Propulsion Unit represents 4 years of hard work for a result exceeding all records:
- Autonomous flight up to 10,000 feet
- Top speed of 150km/h (93,2 mph)
- 10 min autonomy
Although the UFO is still in prototype phase and won’t be on the market in 2016, it has exactly the same behavior as the WFD Flyboard® Pro Series.

Beautifully Awesome Wonder Woman Cosplay

This is one of the coolest Wonder Woman cosplays that I think I’ve seen. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it comes from Panterona, who is a cosplayer from Trinidad and Tobago.

The costume is based on the Batman v Superman Wonder Woman character design, but as you can see she brightened up the colors, which works wonderfully. The corset is made from EVA foam, the armor is black Worbla, and the skirt is hand-dyed leather.

The photos you see here were taken by photographers Gk Studios, and as you can see, the cosplay fits the pretty cool location.

For those asking the corset is actually made from foam, the armor is black worbla, the sword is wooden and the skirt is leather! Prints should be in my shop next week! Thank you so much! Photography: Gk Studios Location: Trinidad and Tobago

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Scarlet Witch Featurette, Clip, TV Spots, and More

A new clip from Captain America: Civil War has been released. It is called “The Right To Choose,” and it focuses on Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and other members of the Avengers debating the pros and cons of the United Nations plan to install a system of accountability for the Avengers. This scene takes place early on in the film, and you can see that Cap isn’t having any of it. It’s a moment when the team starts to divide. As a bonus, you get to see Vision wearing a sweater. The movie comes out on May 6th. Prepare yourselves for awesomeness. I also included a couple of new TV spots, one of which teases a spoiler that I will point out under the last video embed. Then there's a featurette that puts the focus on Scarlet Witch.

SPOILER Spot:

In case you missed it the big spoiler was the part where Hawkeye is standing by Ant-Man’s giant leg when he sized up to Giant-Man.

New Images from PETE'S DRAGON, STAR TREK BEYOND, GHOSTBUSTERS, and THE BFG

new-images-from-petes-dragon-star-trek-beyond-ghostbusters-and-the-bfg

Entertainment Weekly has shared some new photos from a few high-profile upcoming films. The images include our first good look at the Dragon in Disney's Pete's Dragon; Spock getting his ass kicked in Star Trek: Beyond; a good look at the giant in Steven Spielberg's The BFG; and a new view of the Ghostbusters battling ghosts with their proton packs.

While attending CinemaCon this week, I got to see some new footage from several of these films. Most of them look great, the one I'm least excited about it Ghostbusters, and I'll tell you why below the image at the bottom of the post.

Pete's Dragon:

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

Star Trek: Beyond:

The further adventures of James T. Kirk, Spock and the rest of the Enterprise crew. The movie was directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious movies), and it starsChris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John ChoAnton Yelchin, Idris Elba, and Sofia BoutellaStar Trek Beyond opens in theaters on July 22nd, 2016.

The BFG:

The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part.
new-images-from-petes-dragon-star-trek-beyond-ghostbusters-and-the-bfg7

Ghostbusters:

When I saw the first trailer for this movie, I didn't think it looked that bad. It had some really funny moments. Yeah, it didn't really have that Ghostbusters flavor too it, but it still looked like it would entertain. Well, Sony Pictures showed an extended clip at CinemaCon that really turned me off. It was a scene in which the team has their first encounter with a ghost, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was just so damn annoying to watch them as they were jumping around a screaming like 8-year-old girls after they had their first paranormal experience. I really want to like this movie, but that footage was incredibly disappointing. I have no idea why that scene played out the way it did, but it wasn't funny at all.

Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. A few years later Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Gilbert reunites with Yates and others when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

San Diego Comic-Con Confirmed to Stream Hall H Panels This Year

$

Last month it was announced that Comic-Con International had teamed up Lionsgate to created a new streaming video service for Comic-Con called Comic-Con HQ. When I went to WonderCon, I talked to one of the people at the Comic-Con HQ booth about the service, and I asked if they would be steaming Hall H panels. The guy told me no because they wanted to keep that experience for the hardcore Comic-Con fans. Well, it looks like they changed their minds.

In an interview with /Film, General Manager of the Comic-Con HQ app Seth Laderman said that fans would in fact be able to watch the big panels that take place in Hall H. That's where you get the biggest and most exciting announcements from the event. But, there's a catch — the panels won't be streamed live. Laderman explained:

"The short answer is yes. We’re going to be working with every single studio, every single panel host to be able to take the content and put it on our platform. We’re not going to be live streaming anything because we really don’t want to take away that experience of people who are the first to see and be there for it, but we can put things up shortly after."

I guess this was bound to happen. There are a few conventions that already do this, except they do it live, like New York Comic Con and E3. It makes me wonder if some people would rather just stay at home now and watch all the panels they want to see without the headaches of trying to get a pass, a hotel room, and waiting in line. It would definitely save people money. But it's Comic-Con! The hardcore fans want to be there in person to see it all unfold live, right before their eyes!

There's also another catch, and that's that the studios don't want their exclusive footage to be shown on the streaming service. That will be removed from the footage screened.

"That is one of the options as well and we’re going to be working with all the studios and the panel hosts to figure out what would be the best way to handle that, because a lot of these studios have their marketing plans and how they want to control their assets. We’re really just here as a conduit to be able to help promote everyone, similar to what Comic-Con is, so whatever’s best for them will be good for us."

With that bit of information coming into the light, I don't see the point. One of the main reasons people fight to get into Hall H is to see that exclusive footage. What do you all think? Would you rather stream the panels with no footage from the upcoming films, or would you rather be there and witness it all in person? I guess in the end, it's for the fans who weren't able to get in to the event.

Marvel Makes all the Creative Decisions for Sony's SPIDER-MAN Movie Reboot

After seeing Spider-Man join the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, I couldn’t be more excited for the Jon Watts-directed solo film from Sony Pictures. I have no doubt that movie is going to turn out awesome, and that’s because Marvel is the creative producer on it.

Marvel and Sony had to make one hell of a a deal to make this crossover happen, but they are both dedicated to the character, and they are working very closely with each other to make sure fans get the best big screen version of Spider-man possible.

During an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained Marvel’s role in the co-development of these Spider-Man films:

“We’re working very much [together]. It is a — I don’t know exactly what the credits will be, but it is a Sony Pictures production of a Marvel Studios film. The agreement was that it is very much a Sony Pictures movie. Amy Pascal is co-producing it with us and [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman is leading the charge for Sony and that we are the creative producers. We are the ones hiring the actor, introducing him in this film, and then working right now on the script and soon to be shooting the actual Spidey film.”

So it seems like Marvel is handling all of the important creative things that matter to the movie and character. That’s good to know! Feige also reiterated that the new Spider-Man movie will not be an origin story.

“We spend a lot of time as we work on these movies saying ‘Don’t take it for granted that the audience saw the other movies or that the audience is as versed in the comic books as we are.’ We take great pains to give you everything you need to know within the context of whatever movie you’re actually watching. However, we did say, if it’s safe to assume anything, it’s safe to assume that everybody knows how Spider-Man became Spider-Man and what that backstory was. We’ve seen it a number of times now, it’s its own well-known mythology. So we said, let’s reveal that there’s been a Spider-Man in the MCU and we meet him, as you see, in [Civil War].”

The is something that is actually briefly and brilliantly glossed over in Civil War. It was also recently revealed that we will see other Marvel characters crossover into the Spider-Man films, which is fantastic! I bet Sony is happy they struck this deal with Marvel.

Watch This Beautifully Made Montage Shows 100 Years of Film History in 100 Shots

100 years of film history seems like a really long time, but what happens when it’s squeezed in a 6-minute timeframe? Well, the answer to this question is provided by Baltimore-based filmmaker Jacob T. Swinney. He managed to create a beautiful montage that includes 100 iconic movies and some of their most captivating scenes. Some of the titles are: Frankenstein, Casablanca, Sherlock Junior, Broken Blossoms, Psycho, A Nightmare in Elm Street, The Breakfast Club, Jurassic Park, The Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, and so on.

Jacob T. Swinney is also famous for his other movie supercuts, such as First and Final Frames and Iconic Shots by Steven Spielberg.

Here’s what he has to say about his latest piece of creativity:

A journey through the past 100 years of cinema–the most memorable shot from each year (in my opinion). While many of these shots are the most recognizable in film history, others are equally iconic in their own right. For example, some shots pioneered a style or defined a genre, while others tested the boundaries of censorship and filmgoer expectations. If anything, I want this video to be a reminder as to why we all love cinema so much.

Enjoy the montage below and see how many of the famous productions you can guess.

DAREDEVIL Showrunners to Develop Marvel's THE DEFENDERS

Marvel announced the showrunners for the upcoming Netflix series Marvel’s The Defenders. Thankfully, they have put the series in good hands. They have hired Daredevil showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez to take on the challenge of bringing The Defenders to life. Here is the official press release from Marvel with all of the details:

Douglas Petrie ("Marvel’s Daredevil," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Marco Ramirez ("Marvel’s Daredevil," "Orange is the New Black") are set to return as showrunners to the Marvel Universe for the Netflix Original Series "Marvel’s The Defenders"!
Another alum from “Marvel’s Daredevil,” Oscar-nominee Drew Goddard (“The Martian,” “Lost,” “Alias”), will also join the team as an Executive Producer.
The Executive Producers and showrunners of “Marvel’s Daredevil” Season 2 will unite the Man Without Fear with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist for the mini-series event bringing our heroes together to face their biggest threat yet.
Netflix is excited about it. Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb is excited about it. Frankly, I am excited too because I love what these guys have done with Daredevil. You can tell that they love the stories that they tell and they have the fans in mind with every decision they make. Here is what they had to say about it:
This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story,” said showrunners and Executive Producers Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”

No word on an actual release date yet, but it's coming sometime in 2017.

We were sent in an amusing stop-motion animated short called "Captain Figure: Civil War." Their battles consist of playing retro video games against each other. That is until Spider-Man enters the picture.

STAR TREK BEYOND Will Get a Limited Three-Screen Barco Escape Format Release

$

There's an experimental theatrical experience for audiences out there called Barco Escape. It's a three screen system that pretty much surrounds the audience. It's pretty cool. If you've been to Hall H at Comic-Con, then you kind of get the idea of what that is like.  The purpose of it is to fully immerse the audience in a panoramic movie experience.

Paramount Pictures teamed up with Barco Escape to release Star Trek Beyond in the format in a limited amount of theaters around the country.

There's special filmmaking technology that is used to shoot these scenes, and according to the press release, there's about 20 minutes of footage in Star Trek Beyond that will be adapted for the Barco Escape format. The movie is set to be released July 22nd, and you can find a list of theaters where you will be able to experience the film in Barco Escape below.

Here’s what producer J.J. Abrams had to say in a statement:

Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond is an epic adventure — truly larger than life. It is especially fitting, then, that we are partnering with Barco to provide an ultra wide-screen immersive experience using their unique Barco Escape format. This premium format dramatically expands the width of the viewing plane, giving filmmakers an innovative new tool with which to tell stories and audiences an enhanced new way to experience cinema.

Barco Escape is a new format, but it looks like they are going to start to expand in more theaters around the country. As of right now, here is the list of theaters that have it:

  • Cinemark Lincoln Square Cinemas – Bellevue, WA
  • Village Cinema – Meridian, ID
  • Roxy Stadium 14 – Santa Rosa, CA
  • Palladio 16 Cinemas – Folsom, CA
  • Century at Pacific Commons and XD – Fremont, CA
  • Camera 12 Cinema – San Jose, CA
  • Sierra Vista Cinema 16 – Clovis, CA
  • Cinemark XD – Los Angeles, CA
  • Cinemagic Hollywood 12 Theatres – Rochester, MN
  • Cinemark Legacy & XD – Plano, TX
  • Santikos Silverado 16 – San Antonio, TX
  • Santikos Silverado IMAX – Tomball, TX
  • Santikos Palladium AVX Entertainment – Richmond, TX

I'd watch Star Trek Beyond in this format!

Charlize Theron Would Love to Play Furiosa Again in a New MAD MAX Film

$

0

If George Miller ever actually gets around to making another Mad Max film, it looks like Charlize Theron would be happy to jump back into her role as Furiosa. We know that Miller was hoping to feature the character again, but he was unsure if he'd be able to get Theron back. Well, after the actress walked away with the MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance in a film she told MTV:

“I would love to bring her back to life! Are you kidding? I can see how people are kind of responding to her. I look at my little girl and I’m like, ’yeah, I’d love to play this woman again.'”

So it looks like we'll be seeing Theron kick some more ass as Furiosa when Miller eventually moves forward with a sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. It wouldn't be the same without her, so it's awesome that she's willing to come back for more insane action.
