The cast of Game of Thrones has teamed up with the awesome people at Omaze to offer fans the chance to hang out with them at the L.A. premiere of season 6 of the massively-anticipated show. In a new video that promotes the contest (as well as the International Rescue Committee, the organization that will put your donations to work helping refugees during their time of crisis), Lena Heady, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Michiel Huisman, John Bradley, and Liam Cunningham play a trivia game called Game of Thrones Sword or '80s Metal Band, in which they have to guess whether names like Crimson Death and Oathbreaker point to Valyrian steel or spandex-wearing rockers.

Check out Omaze for more info about your chance to win a trip to the premiere. For the rest of us, Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24th.

Gas Station From TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE To Become BBQ Restaurant

Bloody Disgusting is saying someone has bought the gas station used in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre and converting it into a "horror themed BBQ restaurant." Because what else do you think of when you think of bloody dismemberment?! The venue also has plans to double as a music venue, which would make for some pretty awesome metal concerts! See the progress the owners (which includes the original actor who played Jason Voorhees) have made on renovating the building below.

Zack Snyder Explains Robin's Death in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

$

I think in am in the rare group that actually enjoyed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I think the good elements outweighed the bad. Not by much, but enough to give it a good review from me.

Now I am going to be talking about some spoilerish things for those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet. I hate that I have to say this in almost every post, but there are some sensitive souls out there that need warnings for everything. So, here it is.

If you have seen the movie, then you know that there are a lot of scenes that take a glimpse into the larger DC Cinematic Universe. One of those scenes involves an empty Robin suit with “HAHAHA The Joke's On You Batman” spray painted on it, displayed in the Batcave. Upon seeing that, my first thought was A Death in the Family, probably my favorite graphic novel that I own. However, with the way the way the movie industry likes to throw curve balls at us to keep us on our toes, I couldn’t be 100% sure that was where they were going with that.

BVS director Zack Snyder gaves us a little insight into that part of Batman’s history by telling IGN:

"In my mind, it was that Robin had died 10 years earlier, during some run-in with a young Joker, so there was a fun backstory there to play with. I felt like the whole idea was that there had been loss and there had been sacrifice. In a weird way, he had sacrificed everything to be Batman. He doesn’t really have a life outside the cave. I thought that including Robin, a dead Robin, was helping us understand that he’s been on quite a little journey."

No info is given on whether it was Dick Grayson in the story or if they are going by the killing of Jason Todd in A Death in the Family. I am hoping that (I don’t wish death upon any hero, just thought I should put that out there) it is Todd.

Three reasons for this:

  1. Nightwing is one of my favorite DC Characters. Don’t judge me!
  2. The death of Todd releases an inner rage in Batman the likes that we have never seen before and would explain the swiftness in which he judges those around him.
  3. I really love the Red Hood story arc and think it would be great for a later Batman movie.

I don’t think they would go as dark as to have the fifth Robin, aka Damien, be killed off. It would raise the stakes between Batman and the Joker, and would cement the Joker as the most ruthless villains in superhero history. I just don’t think we are ready for that.

Which Robin do you think the suit belongs to? I can’t wait to find out.

Review: HARDCORE HENRY is Wonderfully Insane

review-hardcore-henry-was-wonderfully-insane2

My friend saw the poster for Hardcore Henry a while back and said it seemed like a cheap Mad Max ripoff. Based on the name alone, he might have been right, but based on the film, Hardcore Henry does a lot to introduce us to a wonderfully insane world full of fantastic characters, with balls to the wall action which lasts the duration of 90-plus-minute runtime.

The film immediately makes itself stand out with the way it's filmed. If you've seen the trailer or the music video for the Biting Elbows song Bad Motherfucker, you know exactly what you're getting. Aside from a few flashbacks, the film is entirely shot from a first person perspective. I often thought, as I did with Scott Pilgrim vs the World, that this film is one of the best video game movies not based on a video game. The experience may be disorienting for some, but action fans will love it. The in-your-face insanity is unrelenting and makes you really feel apart of the action.

The film does a great job of world building and depicting its near-future setting. Cyborgs are an emerging technology and telekinesis exists in some capacity that is never fully explained. Throughout the film, the movie embraces and subverts a ton of action movie cliches. I don't want to name any here because it's great seeing it all play out. But there is a fun little scene involving a horse that made the whole theater laugh.

The villain, played by Danila Koslovsky, is incredibly campy. He's a classic '80s B-movie villain, with a distinct look, pseudo-philosophical speeches, and a totally evil personality. At times, though, he felt like the poor man's Ewan McGregor — but it all works within the confines of the film. Sharlto Copley gives his best performance since District 9. There is an amazing added layer to his character that gives him a lot of room to play with. But due to its spoilerish nature, I won't mention it here.

At times, the movie was slightly homophobic and misogynistic which might rub some people the wrong way, with Copley's character going out of his way to talk about the fact that he isn't gay and how straight he is and all the women he wants to bang. Also, a few of the stand-out action moments were featured in the trailer, which bummed me out a bit.

But overall the film is hilarious and action-packed, and I sincerely hope this is a start of a new franchise with a new badass at its center. This world is just begging to be returned to in a sequel.

This one focuses on the resurrection of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), a character writer/director J.J. Abrams and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan had originally planned to kill off before deciding to have him return later in the film. Thanks to io9 for the video:

If you're looking for even more from the film's bonus features, we've got you covered. Check out clips of the auditions of stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, those two in lightsaber fight training, the cast's first table read, some deleted scenes, and Boyega's joyous reaction to seeing the Millennium Falcon for the first time.

Here's a remarkable LEGO build of the Batcave from Dan Glasure, who spent two months erecting his tribute to The Dark Knight in brick form. Even cooler than all of the detail he put in the Batcave, though, is the fact that it's actually built below another build of Wayne Manor. Gotta love the geographical accuracy on that. Check out some photos below, and see them all at Glasure's Flickr page.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Movie to Be Helmed by GOOSEBUMPS Director Rob Letterman

$

The Dungeons & Dragons movie being developed by Warner Bros. just took a huge step in a direction that I’m not so sure about. The studio has hired Rob Letterman to direct the film. This is the same guy who brought us films such as Goosebumps, Gulliver’s Travels, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Shark Tale. He doesn’t really have the best track record, as Shark Tale is the best thing that he’s done, and it wasn’t really that good.

It doesn’t help that he is working on the script for the film with David Leslie Jones, who wrote Wrath of the Titans, which was wicked terrible. My confidence and excitement level for this film has dropped dramatically, but who knows, maybe these guys will surprise us.

Producer Roy Lee recently did an interview in which he said the film would have the same tone as Guardians of the Galaxy but will be set in a Middle Earth type world. He said:

“This new Dungeons & Dragons will be a Guardians of the Galaxy-tone movie in a Tolkien-like universe. Because when you think of all the Hobbit movies and The Lord of the Rings, they have an earnestness to them, and to see something fun, a Raiders romp inside that world, I feel is something the audience has not seen before.”

I’m fine with that concept and I think it could make for a fun film. I’m just not sure if Letterman and Jones are the kind of talent that can properly do it.

Dungeons & Dragons is based on the popular role-playing game created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson in 1974. According to the report, the story for the film centers on “a warrior and his band of mystical creatures – including a half-dragon and a cunning gnome – as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure.”

There’s no casting for the film yet, but apparently producers are looking to get a Vin Diesel-type actor on board for the lead character. I’m sure they are going after Diesel himself, as the actor is a huge fan of the game and has been playing it for over 20 years. Seems like something he’d like to be a part of if offered a role in it.

3 Actresses Rumored to Join THE NEW MUTANTS, Plus the Characters They'll Play

Hitfix is reporting that three actresses have already been cast in The New Mutants movie currently being developed by Josh Boone (The Fault of Our Stars). Not only do they have the names of the actresses, but they also claim to have information on who they will be playing in the movie.

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams he reportedly been cast in the role of Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, and The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy will be playing the sister of Colossus Illyana Rasputin, a.k.a. Magik, which was teased in a previous interview. Then there is Alexandra Shipp (Stright Outta Compton), who will reprise her role as Storm from the upcoming X-Men Apocalypse.

All of these actresses are fantastic. I don't know if you saw The Witch or not, but Taylor-Joy is insanely talented, and Williams kicks ass. Any film would be lucky to have these actresses. The report goes on to mention other characters that could appear in the film:

"It looks like they’ll also be casting Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage, so they really are going for the most traditional version of the team, the first line-up... You can expect James McAvoy to play a significant role in the film, which makes sense."

It's awesome to hear the X-Men cinematic universe is going to expand further with the possible inclusion of these characters. There's no official confirmation of this news yet, so make sure to treat this as a rumor for now. I hope it's true! What do you think of the casting choices for these characters?

Stephen King’s Zombie Film CELL Finds Distribution

I’ve been wondering what has been going on with the big screen adaption of Stephen King’s Cell. The film completed shooting last year with Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack, and Isabelle Fuhrman and has since been looking for distribution.

Well, it finally found it. Saban Films has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the film, which means it will be released eventually. Cell was directed by Tod “Kip” Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) from a script co-written by King and Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left). If you’re not familiar with the story, here’s a brief synopsis:

When a powerful signal is broadcast across mobile networks worldwide, cell phone users’ minds are instantly and dangerously re-programmed. Heading north through New England in search of his wife and son, Clay Riddell (John Cusack) is joined by a group of survivors hoping to fend off the bloodthirsty and hyper-connected “phoners.”

Saban Films president Bill Bromiley said in a statement:

“Stephen King is widely recognized as a master of the horror genre. Combining his talent along with Tod’s vision and this dynamic cast, which reteams King, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson for the first time since ‘1408,’ delivers a truly unique modern tale of survival.”

King shared his thoughts on the film and how it turned out:

“I enjoyed working on ‘Cell’ and love the way it turned out. Kip Williams has made a scary and thoroughly entertaining movie. But you may want to put your cell phone in the freezer after seeing it.”

I’m a fan of the book, so it’s good to hear that King approves of the movie. I can’t wait to see it!

Awesome GAME OF THRONES and POKEMON Mashup Art - Mother of Dragons

This mashup fan art of Game of Thrones and Pokemon is brilliantly perfect. It’s called "Mother of Dragons" and as you can see it fantastically features Daenerys Targaryen with her Pokemon dragons. She would be the greatest trainer ever! No one would be able to defeat her. I also love how incredibly intimidating that Daenerys looks in the image. The piece was created by Ceasar Ian Muyuela and the serious tone of it is what makes it so damn amusing. Also, in case you missed it, here's a mashup video that we posted last year.

Thanks to Chris Pratt we have our first video footage from the set to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It features Star-Lord piloting the Milano ship, and it looks like he’s run into some big problems because as you'll see the ship is getting a pretty good shake.

I also included a great image that Gunn released offering us glimpse at a hilarious looking scene that was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy. As you can see above, it was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper and features Groot in the position of Jesus. Gunn had this to say about the piece:

"Groot's Last Supper. This was a shot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 that got cut from the movie and was never finished. The great artists over at Framestore finished a frame and just gave it to me as a gift. Thanks, guys."

I’m sure we can count on Gunn and his team to keep sharing cool stuff like this with us. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5th, 2017.

Stephen King's THE SHINING Sequel DOCTOR SLEEP Being Adapted For Film By Akiva Goldsman

$

0

We all knew it was only a matter of time before Stephen King's Doctor Sleep was put into development for a feature film. The book is a sequel to King's classic The Shining and according to The Tracking Board, Warner Bros. has hired screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to adapt it for the big screen.

The Shining centers on Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their son Danny as they live in the haunted Overlook Hotel during the winter season to take care of it. It's there that the hotel possesses Jack and he slowly becomes possessed by the hotel and nightmarishly torments his wife and kid.

Doctor Sleep takes place several years after the events that took place at the Overlook Hotel. It focuses on Jack's son Danny who is now a middle-aged man. He is still traumatized by what happened at the hotel all those years ago and he throughout his life he had to deal with anger management and alcoholism issues. However, in an effort to get his life back together, he gives up drinking and settles down in a small town in New Hampshire. It is at this point in his life where his psychic abilities start to resurface and he develops a psychic link with a 12-year-old girl named Abra Stone. Turns out this girl's life is being threatened by a tribe of paranormals who suck the energy from people. They are led by a man named Rose the Hat and Danny has to save her from them.

Warner Bros. has also been developing a prequel film called Overlook Hotel, but I haven't heard much about that project since Mark Romanek was set to direct it. That movie would be based on King's original prologue to The Shining, which was cut from the book prior to its publication in 1977. It would "tell the origin story of the haunted hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson, a robber baron at the turn of the 20th century."

Goldsman seems like a great fit for the project as he is very familiar with kings work and worked on the big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower book series for years. King is an executive producer on the project. I thought the book was great and I'm excited to see how the movie turns out.

Warner Bros. is also developing big screen adaptations of King's The Stand and IT
