Patrick Warburton Joins NPH in Netflix's A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS

Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld, Family Guy, Ted) has one of the most distinctive voices in show business, and according to Deadline, he'll be lending that voice to Netflix's upcoming live-action series Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Warburton will play Lemony Snicket, the narrator of the eight-episode adaptation, joining the recently-confirmed Neil Patrick Harris, who has been cast as Count Olaf. Jude Law played Snicket in the 2004 film adaptation.

A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tale of the orphaned children Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire at the hands of the villainous Count Olaf, as they face trials and tribulations, misfortunes, and an evil uncle in search of their fortune, all in their quest to uncover the secret of their parents’ death. The books have sold more than 65 million copies and have been translated into 43 languages. The epic series will be executive produced by Barry Sonnenfeld, who will also direct a number of episodes, and Daniel Handler, legal, literary and social representative for Lemony Snicket. [Handler is actually the writer of the successful book series. — Ed.]

Warburton will reportedly appear on camera as well as narrating the show. Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes have been cast as Violet and Klaus, respectively, while the role of Sunny has yet to be filled. Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) is directing the pilot, but as far as I know, the show hasn't replaced its showrunner yet after True Blood's Mark Hudis bailed a couple of months ago.

Are you looking forward to this show? It's expected to debut on Netflix sometime this year.

First Look at BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Animated Film with Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy

Thanks to Mark Hamill we have our very first look at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s upcoming animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke. Hamill is providing the voice of The Joker and Kevin Conroy is back as Batman! I don’t think fans would want it any other way. I’m hoping that this turns out to be WB’s best-animated film yet.

The image came with the following quote pulled directly from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s incredible graphic novel:

“JOKE: ‘If I have to have a past, then I prefer it to be multiple choice.’”

Obviously, this line is going to be included in the film that is being developed. Yes, Hamill and Conroy, 100% confirmed for the film. In an interview with CBR, Hamill said:

"The chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favorite Batman, in what some consider the definitive origin of this iconic villain is a dream come true for me. I am beyond thrilled to return as The Joker in 'The Killing Joke!'"

Conroy added:

“I’ve had the great privilege of voicing Batman for more than two decades, and some of my favorite moments in the recording booth have been alongside Mark Hamill. Mark always enables me to be a better actor. I’m thrilled that we’re both back to bring these characters to life in one of the most heralded Batman/Joker stories of all time.”

How cool is that!? As of right now, the cast also includes Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Ray Wise will voice Commissioner Gordon. I’m sure more actors will be revealed soon.

Batman: The Killing Joke is rumored to be rated-R, and it will premiere at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. It will eventually be released for us to buy in the summer of 2016. Here’s the synopsis from the graphic novel:

According to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as The Joker, that's all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he's out to prove his deranged point. And he's going to use Gotham City's top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it.
Now Batman must race to stop his archnemesis before his reign of terror claims two of the Dark Knight's closest friends. Can he finally put an end to the cycle of bloodlust and lunacy that links these two iconic foes before it leads to its fatal conclusion? And as the horrifying origin of the Clown Prince of Crime is finally revealed, will the thin line that separates Batman's nobility and The Joker's insanity snap once and for all?

Batman: The Killing Joke is being directed by Sam Liu, and I'm excited to see if he and his team were ably to pull this off.

Stunning Collection of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Concept Art Released by ILM

Industrial Light & Magic has released a collection of beautifully stunning concept art created for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I love looking at concept art from sci-fi and fantasy films, and the stuff included here is exceptional work that reveals some insanely awesome unused ideas and designs for characters, locations, and vehicles. There are also some designs that match up directly with what ended up in the film. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, you’re gonna freakin’ love these.

Since Industrial Light & Magic’s inception in 1975, every idea dreamt into existence found its genesis within the ILM Art Department. Forty years ago, legendary concept designers like Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston brought George Lucas’s brainchild of an asymmetrical Star Wars “used universe” to life, imagining fantastic worlds bursting with iconic heroes, villains, spaceships and aliens. The ILM Art Department continues to revolutionize film design today, coupling classical technique with the very bleeding edge of technology. Acclaimed directors like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and J.J. Abrams work hand-in-hand with the best art directors and artists in the film industry, exploring ideas and iterating on those ideas until their vision is realized, making the unreal real and the impossible possible.

Rick Carter, co-production designer, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, had this to say about the art you are about to look over:

“Each artist began to explore his individual response, and collectively, we began to answer, with our words and art. Out of our brainstorming sessions emerged visual imagery of where we might want to go and what it would look like when we got there. We were not merely illustrating scenes that already existed: we were initiating storytelling concepts through the visual images themselves.”

Now enjoy the entire collection of concept art below.

A mysterious teaser trailer has surfaced for a sci-fi film called Code 8. The trailer was posted on Stephen Amell's Facebook page, and he says this is a project that he has been working on. He also reveals that his cousin Robbie Amell and Fast and Furious actor Sung Kang are involved with the project as well. Both of them are briefly featured in the teaser. There’s no word on what Amell’s role in the project is, but I imagine he will be in it.

There’s not much more information about this film other than that and what you’re about to watch in the teaser below. This looks like an intriguing film, and it seems to take place in the near future in Los Angeles. It’s set in a world in which robot cops are hunting down mutants. The teaser trailer reveals the basic concept saying, “4% of people possess abnormal abilities” but “make up 60% of all arrests.”

We will have more information on March 22nd when I expect we’ll see a full trailer. We’ll keep you updated on this project as more information becomes available.

The Adventure Time LEGO playset concept that popped up on LEGO Ideas last month got 10,000 supporters and has officially been approved by the company. The playset idea was created by aBetterMonkey and LEGO officially announced that they’ll be bringing it to life. This will be an awesome Adventure Time collectible, and if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll want to get your hands on this. Here’s the description:

Characters of cult cartoon Adventure Time got the Lego treatment in the form of brick-built figures. Sturdy builds with basic poseability were the goal to make this a toy set rather than a display model. The small scale used helped make the parts count low at 640 bricks for fifteen characters with accessories.

The characters included in the set are Finn with his sword, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Lady Rainicorn, Marceline with her axe-bass, BMO with joysticks, the Ice King with ice lightings, Gunter, Lumpy Space Princess, Tree Trunks, Flame Princess, Ricardio, Earl of Lemongrab with his sword, the Lich with green flames, and the snail.

The first trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children has arrived, and this looks like it is going to be another Tim Burton masterpiece. The movie is based on the novel by Ransom Riggs and it stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Chris O'Dowd, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Kim Dickens, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, and Samuel L. Jackson

Red-Band Trailer For Seth Rogen's R-Rated Animated Comedy SAUSAGE PARTY

Sony Pictures has released the first red-band trailer for Seth Rogen's R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party and it's absolutely hilarious! There were moments in this trailer that had me busting up with laughter. Rogen has described the film as an "R-rated Pixar-style movie" and after watching this trailer, I can't wait to see it.

“Sausage Party” is an ‘R’ rated theatrical animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

The movie was directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens) from a script written by Rogen, Evan GoldbergKyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir. It also has a great voice cast which includes Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.

The movie premiered at SXSW and I hear it's been getting a lot of positive buzz. So if you are looking for a laugh, it looks like this movie is going to deliver it. Sausage Party arrives in theaters on August 12th.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Season 2 Trailer is All About Zombies and Danger

Mission “run away or kill the zombies” will start once again soon, as EW has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming second season of Fear the Walking Dead. Just when we thought the zombie action was over as this season of The Walking Dead comes to a close, the new season of the spin-off is so close that we can actually taste the smell of dead (but walking) bodies. One week after TWD's Season 6 finale hits screens (April 3), the prequel series is going to remind zombie fans that the undead stories haven’t really died away.

This new trailer shows the main characters wandering around by land and sea. And judging from what we can hear and see, life on land doesn’t seem to offer many safe places. Zombies are pretty much everywhere!

Fear the Walking Dead is produced by showrunner Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne HurdGreg Nicotero, and David Alpert. It features Kim Dickens as MadisonCliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam Carey as Alicia, Rubén Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Masöhn as Ofelia, Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris, and Colman Domingo as Strand. The second season is going to air 15 new episodes, and the premiere is set for April 10.

Peter Jackson, Spielberg, and Abrams Back Napster Founder's Plan To Put New Movies In Your Home

$

Sean Parker, founder of Napster, is trying to bring Civil War and other high-profile films to your home on release day. What's crazier is he has the support of guys like Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, and J.J. Abrams saying that his new service, Screening Room, is a good idea.

Screening Room, according to Guardian, is a service that will allow you to get first-run films screened directly in your home. One movie costs $50, and $20 of that goes to the theaters who would lose your business. The set-top box itself will cost $150 and will come with anti-piracy measures, and is designed to draw in an audience who does not currently go to theaters at all.

Are the obscenely wealthy not attending the movies?! $50 for a single showing of a film?! I might do that once in my life if I were able to find a bunch of people to chip in! Furthermore, I would not buy a special box for the service that I would, once again, only use once. No wonder the film industry is loving this idea...they're making out like bandits!

Maybe families with multiple children would benefit from this? From a two person household, I'm not seeing the light! Am I missing something?

Look, you don't have to justify why you don't have the time to read the Civil War comic. I get it! You're busy! You have A LOT on your plate. I COMPLETELY understand why you don't have the time at all in the next 2 months to read one of the most critically acclaimed comics of the past 15 years.

Because you're SOOOO busy, I embedded this animated short which breaks down the entirety of Civil War as it happens in the comics. Obviously a bit of it will change in Captain America: Civil War, but you'll get the gist of it from watching this!

All my patronizing aside, thanks to Noah Sterling for making this for people who are too busy to read the series.

Todd McFarlane Teases His R-Rated SPAWN Movie Script in Video Update

todd-mcfarlane-teases-his-r-rated-spawn-movie-script-in-video-update

Last month, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane brought up his long-awaited new Spawn movie again. He's been working on this thing for years. McFarlane said at the time he was finished with the script and went on to describe it as containing elements of horror, suspense, and supernatural thrillers. He also described it as Paranormal Activity meets The Departed, and explained:

"In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost."

McFarlane isn't done talking about his movie! He recently did a live Facebook video in which he gave another update on the project. This is obviously a project that he's not going to give up on. Seeing his determination to make this thing, I actually believe that he won't stop until he's done it.

In the video, he teases the script that he's written, which currently sits at 132 pages. There's a little bit more editing that needs to be done, but there are goals in place. I think seeing the success of Deadpool really lit a fire under McFarlane's ass to get this thing done.

The first Spawn film was rated R, but it failed miserably because it sucked so bad. This new film version of Spawn will be a hard R movie, but it sounds like this one is headed in a much better direction. It's great to know that the movie is still in development and moving forward to production. As a long-time fan of Spawn, I can't help but be excited for this and seeing how it turns out.

Watch McFarlane talk about his film in the video below:

Learn What It Felt Like To Be a Stormtrooper in The Original STAR WARS Trilogy

GreatBigStory runs a bit too many advertisement stories on their channel for my tastes, but when they aren't doing that, their content is phenomenal! Take this for example. Suddenly I want to be a Stormtrooper a lot less...hopefully they've made the suits a bit more comfortable since then!

Patrick Stewart Looks Terrifying in New GREEN ROOM Trailer

Jeremy Saulnier made a big impact on the indie scene with his debut feature film, Blue Ruin, and he's secured an excellent cast for his second movie, Green Room. Patrick Stewart stars as the terrifying leader of a Nazi skinhead gang, and a punk band consisting of people like Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots get mixed up with them and basically have to shoot their way out of a venue in order to survive. It looks like a heart-pounding thriller, and from what I've heard, Stewart gives an amazing performance. Since he's played so many iconic heroes in his career, it'll be great to see him dive back into playing a ruthless villain again.

Green Room hits limited theaters on April 15 and goes wide on April 29.

First Look Photos: Jack Huston and Morgan Freeman in BEN-HUR Remake

Timur Bekmambetov, the director of movies like Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is adapting the story of Ben-Hur for the big screen. The 1880 novel has already been adapted multiple times before, twice as silent films and once as the 1959 Charlton Heston movie that won eleven Oscars, but the bombastic filmmaker is hoping that modern audiences take a shine to the story as well.

USA Today has a couple of first-look images from the new film, which stars Jack Huston as Judah Ben-Hur, the role Heston made famous, and Morgan Freeman as Ilderim, who trains the hero for the climactic chariot race, which Bekmambetov calls "truly the crown jewel of the film." Huston and co-star Toby Kebbell, who plays Messala, trained for two and a half months for that sequence and eventually got to the point where there were 32 horses racing around the course at one time.

“You get in with two horses on a chariot, which blows your mind, and then you put four horses on the end of your reins,” Huston recalls. “It would be the equivalent of a Formula 1 race.
"It's overwhelming and incredibly scary," he says. "But after the first day where you think every second, ‘I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die,’ you decide to put that out of your brain for good and it becomes just part of the job.”

Huston clearly knows that many cinephiles are wary of this remake, but he's giving us the benefit of the doubt and thinks we'll do the same: “I hope people will go into this with a very open mind and realize the beauty’s very much in the story.”

Ben-Hur hits theaters on August 12.

INDIANA JONES Sequel Officially Coming to Theaters in 2019, Spielberg and Ford Returning

$
0
0

Indiana Jones is swinging back into theaters in just over three years, and fans will probably be pleased to know that Steven Spielberg is directing and Harrison Ford will be donning the iconic fedora once again.

Disney just announced that a still-untitled fifth Indiana Jones film will be released in theaters on July 19, 2019, with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall producing. One name noticeably absent from the press release? George Lucas. Lucas co-created the character and wrote the stories for all of the Indy films thus far, but since he's now retired, it seems like he's sitting this one out. I feel like if he were involved, his name would be among those listed in the press release. I know he's buddies with Spielberg, but even the director has essentially blamed the worst aspects of Kingdom of The Crystal Skull on Lucas, so as much as I respect Lucas as a major player in the success of this franchise, I'll be excited to see what an Indy movie looks like that doesn't have his name on it (if that truly is the case here).

When Disney bought Lucasfilm, we knew it was only a matter of time before a new Indian Jones movie was going to arrive in theaters, and discussions about it have ramped up over the past year or so. Marshall and Spielberg both said they wouldn't be recasting the role, and we knew Ford was up for reprising it once more, so if you've been paying attention, this announcement isn't much of a surprise. But here's a theory: Ford will have just turned 77-years-old in 2019 (!), so my guess is that they're bringing him back to play an older Jones while also introducing a younger actor to play him in flashbacks. That way it can serves as one last hurrah for Ford, paying respect to the man who originated the role, while also providing Disney/Lucasfilm with a new actor to play the iconic character in future movies. (Because we all know there are going to be more movies after this one, whether Ford or Spielberg are involved or not.)

Read the full press release below:

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.
