Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool and Cable Film Is Already Being Discussed

$

Deadpool fans, gird your loins. Turns out you didn't have to clamor too long for your Deadpool and Cable on screen team up, as Ryan Reynolds claims it's already in the works! Comicbook says the actor spoke with audiences after the screening and confirmed that sequels were already in the works. When a boisterous fan screamed, "Cable and Deadpool!" the actor responded,

"Your lips to God's ears, my friend...Believe me, that's being talked about."

If you're not entirely sure why this is a big deal, the Cable and Deadpool series remains for many fans the pinnacle of Deadpool comics. It's essentially the gold standard when it comes to Deadpool writing, so obviously it would make for a good film! The big question, though...who would play Cable? I swear I'm not trolling when I say this, but maybe John Cena? Ten years ago I would've said Ron Perlman, I dunno Channing Tatum? I'll shut up because I can already hear the angry keyboards, haha.

Last night Warner Bros. unleashed the new trailer for Suicide Squad and I thought it was freakin' incredible! Not everyone shared in my excitement, though. A lot of people didn't seem too impressed, which completely surprised me! I personally think Suicide Squad looks better than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Mr. Sunday Movies has released a new video that breaks down this latest trailer and points out six things we may have missed. Those things include Easter eggs, references, and more. I've watched the trailer several times already, but there are a few things pointed out in this video that I overlooked.

I also included 67 screenshots from the trailer for your viewing enjoyment.

STAR WARS: EPISODE 8 May Be Getting a Rewrite Because of Fan Reaction to THE FORCE AWAKENS

$

We're still about a year and a half away from the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII, but now that fans are finally starting to come down from the high of The Force Awakens, attention is turning to the future of the Star Wars universe. If a new report from The Wrap's Jeff Sneider on Meet The Movie Press (via ScreenCrush) is correct, Johnson is going to be doing a bit of rewrite work on his script for Episode VIII due to fan response to The Force Awakens.

You can listen to the discussion at about the 23 minute mark here, but the gist of it goes like this: Johnson is reportedly doing a small rewrite of the script to minimize two new female characters that are supposed to appear in the movie (people like Gina Rodriguez, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Bel Powley have been mentioned in association with these parts, but no official casting news has been released as of yet). The reason he's making those roles smaller is because either Johnson himself or the top brass at Lucasfilm wants to further flesh out the roles of Rey, Finn, and Poe instead of spending too much time introducing new characters.

As much as I'm all about seeing cool new female characters in the Star Wars universe, I've gotta say this sounds like a smart move on Johnson's part. Rey, Finn, and Poe are the new lifeblood of this franchise, and spending as much time with them as possible seems like a great idea to me.

The Science of Internet Trolls Explored in Video Essay

the-science-of-internet-trolls-explored-in-video-essay

There is no escaping Internet trolls. They are out there, and they’re never going to go away. It’s just part of the living life on the Internet. If you have a blog, a video web-series, or you just want to have an opinion online, the trolls will be there to tear you down. Why? Well, this video essay explores the science behind Internet trolls and breaks down the type of people they are.

One of the things they explain is that trolls are sadists who relish in the pain of others. They get off on hurting other people through their harsh words. This actually offers a very fascinating look at trolls that I’ve never really thought about before.

I know GeekTyrant has a few trolls, and if they take the time to watch this video I’m curious to know what they think about how this study depicts them. Do you agree with it or disagree with it?

THE WAVE Trailer: Norway Can Make Disaster Movies, Too

Scandinavian movies aren't normally known for their blockbuster visual effects or massive scopes; they're more often acclaimed for small, effective, character-centric films, and Hollywood often ends up remaking and Americanizing those movies. But The Wave almost looks like the reverse, like Norway's attempt to make a big-budget American disaster movie. All they're missing is a scientist to stare off into the distance while comprehending a readout and quietly saying "Oh my God" in Norwegian.

Director Roar Uthaug has already been tapped to direct the new Tomb Raider movie, so we'll find out if he has what it takes when The Wave hits theaters and VOD on March 4th.

The experienced geologist Kristian Eikfjord has accepted a job offer out of town. He is getting ready to move from the city of Geiranger with his family when he and his colleagues measure small geological changes in the underground. Kristian gets worried, and his worst nightmare is about to come true when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time to save as many as possible, including his own family.

DIE HARD: YEAR ONE is Still Happening, Len Wiseman Reveals Plot Details

$

Sounds like the people at 20th Century Fox aren't going to be able to resist trotting out Bruce Willis for Die Hard: Year One, even though there is absolutely no reason anyone needs to see a prequel of John McClane as a cop before the events of the first movie. The entire reason the first movie works so well is because he's just a normal guy who hasn't had anything crazy happen to him before, and seeing a normal man overcome the odds was (and continues to be) such a satisfying thing, especially in an era when on-screen heroes were massive, oiled up buff guys like Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

But I guess none of that matters to Fox, who has already burned the legacy of the franchise to the ground with the abysmal A Good Day to Die Hard, so they're apparently fine with continuing to tarnish it by just tacking on more and more potentially terrible films to the end of its life. Len Wiseman, who directed Live Free or Die Hard, is producing this new movie, and he spoke to Collider about it and revealed some plot details:

“After doing the fourth one, there were so many conversations that Bruce [Willis] and I were having about what he put into the character for Die Hard 1. That character comes in with so much baggage, emotionally, and experience. He’s already divorced, he’s bitter, his Captain hates him and doesn’t want him back. So, what created that guy?”

“We’ve never seen the actual love story. We know its demise, but we’ve never seen what it was like when he met Holly, or when he was a beat cop in ‘78 in New York when there was no chance of him making detective. It’s always been something I’ve been thinking about, and now we’re doing it. And it ties in.”

Wiseman says the film will be a prequel/sequel (something Willis said was "a very good idea"), and he elaborated on that and the timeline for the movie:

“The reason I say prequel/sequel is because I wasn’t going to do it without Bruce. I’m also not going to do it with Bruce being a cameo bookend gimmick. It’s really working into the plot, with the ‘70s having ramifications on present-day Bruce. It inter-cuts in a very fun, imaginative way with present-day John McClane.”
“The film itself will take place on New Years’ Eve 1979, so trying to gear things towards that would be fun, if we could come out around the same time, but these movies take their own paths.”

Die Hard: Year One is currently searching for an unknown actor to play young McClane. You already know how I feel about this movie, but what do you all think? Have it out in the comments below.

Jim Rash and Nat Faxon to Direct New Slasher Film DEAD MALL

$

You'll probably recognize Jim Rash (Community) and Nat Faxon (Married) as actors first, but they're also the writer/directors of the beloved 2013 Sundance coming-of-age comedy The Way Way Back and they won an Oscar for co-writing 2011's The Descendants with Alexander Payne. It's been three years since their last movie, and now they've finally set a follow-up project.

Deadline reports that the duo will write and direct Dead Mall, a slasher film set in an abandoned mall and centering on a bunch of 40-somethings who should (but maybe don't) have enough knowledge to not make the same idiotic mistakes horror movie characters often make in situations like that. Sounds like a bit of a meta riff on the slasher concept, maybe somewhat akin to last year's terrific slasher The Final Girls. No word yet on whether or not Rash and Faxon will be two of the ensemble characters, but I wouldn't be surprised, since they both had roles in The Way Way Back.

20th Century Fox has acquired the pitch, so the pair will now get to work writing the screenplay. I really like these guys (seek out The Way Way Back if you haven't — Sam Rockwell is amazing in it), so I'll try to keep you up to date on this new project as soon as I hear anything else about it.

Impressive and Touching STAR WARS Fan Film - KARA

I've got another fantastic Star Wars fan film for you to watch today. It's called Kara, and it follows the journey of a father and daughter who come across a Rebel pilot after being shot down in an aerial battle with the Empire on either Tatooine or Jakku. They then find themselves in a fight for their lives against a small team of Stormtroopers hell bent on killing them.

The short was written and directed by Joe Sill, and the story it tells is actually kind of touching. This is a solid production that was shot well, and the effects are decent. It's definitely one of the better fan films I've seen in recent years, so it's worth checking out. Also, in case you missed the last Star Wars fan film I posted, Rebel Scum, make sure to click here to watch it.

STAR WARS: EPISODE 8 Release Date Delayed

$

I was just writing earlier this morning about a rumor that writer/director Rian Johnson was reworking the script for Star Wars: Episode VIII, so it's not too surprising that I just received a press release from Disney revealing that the release date for that movie has been delayed from May 26th, 2017 until December 15th, 2017.

J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens was initially slotted for a summer release before being bumped to the holiday season, and even though Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy wanted even more time than that to work on the film, Disney chief Bob Iger promised his shareholders that the movie would be out in 2015, so he forced them to hold to the December date. Fans were excited that Star Wars — which typically came out in the summer — would seemingly return to dominate the summer blockbuster landscape again with Episode VIII, but now that won't be the case. This means that we'll be getting Star Wars movie three Decembers in a row: The Force Awakens last month, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this year, and Episode VIII next year.

Interestingly, this will also set the stage for a box office battle between Episode VIII and James Cameron's Avatar 2, which opens on December 25th, 2017.

Meanwhile, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales — a movie I'm not sure anyone on Earth is actually excited about — is jumping from its July 7th, 2017 slot into Episode VIII's vacated May release date, so that one will now be released on May 26th, 2017.

Sony Moves SPIDER-MAN Solo Film Release Date

Looks like Disney moving the release date of Star Wars: Episode VIII is already causing aftershocks in Hollywood. Release dates are serious business for movie studios, as evidenced by the sometimes absurd way they stake claims on dates up to five years in advance, so it's no surprise that they're paying close attention to a potential behemoth like Star Wars and pouncing to take advantage of its previous release window.

THR reports that Sony Pictures has moved Jon Watts' solo Spider-Man film up from July 28th, 2017 to July 7th, 2017. July 7th is the date Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was set to hold, but when Star Wars moved, Pirates jumped into its old slot, leaving the July 7th spot vacant. Sony swung in to claim it as theirs. Tom Holland's first solo effort as the web-slinger will now be the property to beat during that holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, the studio also changed the release date for its remake of Jumanji, which moves from this Christmas into the spot Spider-Man originally held: July 28th, 2017.

Update your calendars accordingly!

THE GOOD DINOSAUR's Pixar Easter Eggs Revealed

$

I never got around to seeing The Good Dinosaur, and judging by its meager box office returns, I wasn't the only one who decided to skip it. But Joey loves the movie — he says it's his favorite Pixar film so far — so I supposed I'll have to check it out at some point.

When I do finally see it, I'll be on the lookout for these two Pixar-themed Easter eggs that /Film pointed out. The Pizza Planet truck is one of the most prolific Pixar Easter eggs, and considering this movie takes place in prehistoric times, it seemed unlikely that the animators would be able to sneak it in. But it appears that they did. Can you spot it below?

Didn't see it? Neither did I when I first looked. But how about now?

It's not perfect, but I think that's about as close as they could get without resorting to seeing the truck in a constellation or something.

And finally, here's one more Pixar Easter egg for you. If you follow this sort of thing, you know that Pixar filmmakers will often try to sneak the number A113 into their movies as an homage to the classroom number at Cal Arts where many of them studied. Here's how director Peter Sohn slipped that into The Good Dinosaur:

Not bad...not bad at all.

Bryan Singer Compares X-MEN: APOCALYPSE to GAME OF THRONES

$

Actress Sophie Turner isn't the only thing X-Men: Apocalypse has in common with Game of Thrones, according to director Bryan Singer. In a new interview with Yahoo UK, Singer draws a direct connection between the two properties:

“I’m a huge ‘Game Of Thrones’ fan. There’s a crossover between ‘X-Men’ and ‘Game Of Thrones’, they’re both about a younger generation finding their powers, finding out who they are, and what their place in the world is. I like how the show’s about different groups of people moving towards a common goal. They don’t even know if that’s the right goal, who wants to sit on that uncomfortable throne? I don’t! Everyone in King’s Landing is miserable. But for some reason they want that power.”

I've never thought about the similarities between those two properties before — probably because it's not something that lends itself well to a direct comparison — but I suppose Singer is right about them both being stories that feature younger generations finding their place in the world.

There's a bunch more to read in the full interview, but I'll leave you with a quote from writer Simon Kinberg, who chipped in with a brief description that I'm sure many of you will appreciate:

“There’s a lot more destruction and loss in this film that we’ve had in the previous movies. We weren’t afraid to go to darker, heavier places than we’ve done in these films before.”

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theaters on May 19th, 2016.

Mark Ruffalo Says THOR: RAGNAROK Will Be a MIDNIGHT RUN-Style Road Movie

$

0

Thor: Ragnarok got a lot of attention a few months ago for reportedly being Marvel's darkest movie yet, but with more recent aspects like the movie's new director, how Odin is going to be treated, and the desire for more comedy in the film, so far it sounds a lot more lighthearted than its title indicates (Ragnarok is the Norse apocalypse). A lot can change between now and when the movie goes into production (and we're obviously only hearing about small elements at a time, not the whole picture), but the latest statement from Mark Ruffalo — who will co-star as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk opposite Chris Hemsworth's title hero — seems to be the latest thing that points to the movie being a little lighter than we expected.

In an interview with Empire, Ruffalo compared the film to Midnight Run, the 1988 bounty hunter comedy:

“There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro,” Ruffalo told Empire. "I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner.” So is it a road movie? “It is a universal road movie – that’s where we’re heading,” he says, adding cryptically: “It’s not where you'd think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think."

I'm very interested to see how Taika Waititi balances the tone of this movie as he tries to course-correct the franchise away from the slightly dour first two movies into something that manages to be dark but funny and a buddy movie at the same time. Sounds like a big challenge.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3rd, 2017.

Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple Will Have a Major Role in Marvel's LUKE CAGE

We’ve already heard that Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple will be the character that connects the MCU in the Netflix series’ that Marvel is developing. As it turns out, they have big plans for her in their upcoming Luke Cage series, and she will have a very significant role in it.

Temple was introduced in Daredevil, and she also appeared in the final episode of the first season of Jessica Jones. In that episode, the nurse attended to Luke Cage, who was severely injured. It looks like the relationship between these two characters is about to get a little deeper.

During an interview with IGN, Mike Colter talked about his upcoming series and explained what we can expect to see from Temple in it.

"Luke Cage does take place up town. It's a different backdrop. How they get her uptown will be very unique, and you'll see it makes sense. It's seamless. We're in the same city. She knows of me, obviously, from a personal standpoint, but it'll be interesting to see because she will deal with me in a different way than she dealt with Matt Murdock. Matt Murdock's character's completely different from mine.
"Because she plays a nurse that basically seems to be in the right place at the right time, and she's very good at helping out superheroes who are in need, and I think you will see some of that in Luke Cage. Ultimately I think she's going to be a very good companion for Luke. I think she's someone that Luke needs in his life at this time."

Those of you who read the comics know that Temple is Luke Cage's love interest, and it sounds like that relationship will be played with in the series. Colter said, "It will be interesting to see how" that relationship with Claire plays out on the show because things are sure to get complicated, especially because of his relationship with Jessica Jones. The actor explained:

"With Jessica, it was one of those things that when you meet it's lustful. I think with Jessica, there's so much chemistry there that we still need to find out are we compatible, and that's the part that's going to be interesting. As far as Claire is concerned, we have to wait and see how that relationship evolves. Comparatively speaking, we know Jessica has killed my wife, and so we have to get through that."

Claire plays such a big part in Luke Cage that her mom is even set to be introduced in the MCU. Her mother, Soledad Temple, will be played by Sonia Braga. As for how much we’ll actually see of the character, the actor said:

"She's going to serve a very significant part of the Luke Cage story. Not overwhelmingly so, but you will definitely be satisfied with the amount of screen time you see. ... I can't speak to episode count, but you're definitely going to see her. She's definitely going to be someone that's going to have a large storyline and help out a lot."

Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb went on to praise Dawson for her acting skills, and how that played a role in expanding Temple’s character in these series:

"Rosario is such an extraordinarily gifted actress, sort of everything you throw at her she does an extraordinary job with. It wasn't just that Claire fit so well in those worlds, it's that Rosario fit so well in those worlds. We wanted to have an opportunity to be able to let the audience know that this person knows this person, and that means they know that person. I think if you play the game out, you can sort of see where it's going to be headed and how important that character's going to be."

It will be cool to see how her relationship with Cage grows in this series, and how her character will be utilized in the MCU as a whole. Claire Temple is also set to appear in Daredevil Season 2, which premiere on Netflix on March 18th. Marvel's Luke Cage is set to premiere later in 2016.

An army of Daleks attack Harry Potter as they invade the Quidditch World Cup in this amusing Doctor Who mashup video. The video comes from The Master Poop, and of course, it wouldn’t be complete without an appearance by the 10th Doctor, played by David Tenant. As you know, the actor also took on the role of Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which makes the Doctor’s appearance possible in this fun mashup. If you’re a fan of these properties, I’m sure you’re going to enjoy this.

Rumored Villain for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Is Wonderfully Insane

We know that James Gunn likes to play with fun and quirky characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe, so I was expecting to see a few crazy new characters in Vol. 2. Well, according to a recent rumor from Geek.com, there could be one very interesting and very unexpected villain in the film.

Possible SPOILERS ahead:

The outlet claims to have learned from a source close to the production that one of the villains we see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be Ego the Living Planet. That came completely out of left field! I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm sure many of you have never even heard of this character.

The planet was basically brought to life by The Stranger in the Black Galaxy. After he received consciousness, the planet set out to take over galaxies, and along the way it ran into opposition from characters such as Thor, The Fantastic Four, and the Silver Surfer. Here's a more detailed synopsis thanks to Marvel:

rumored-villain-for-guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2-is-wonderfully-insane11
Ego is a planet-sized entity that has immeasurable intelligence, and incalculable strength. Its stamina and durability are god-like, and it can fly through space at warp speed. Since Ego is essentially a "living planet", it has total control over its total mass down to the molecular level. It can shift its surface to appear as if it had a giant face, or grow enormous tentacles. It can make itself look like either a paradise, to lure unsuspecting travelers to their doom, or a barren world and can use its mass to create plant-like growths or humanoid bodies to carry it consciousness. Ego has an internal organ system that has giant tunnels, or arteries, a brain-like organ that is buried deep within its surface, and digestive organs to digest the living beings it absorbs into its body. Ego also has an immune system that will attack an entity that resists being absorbed. Ego has vast mental powers that allow it to tap into energy sources such as the stars or absorbing other living entities and use that power for itself. It also has extreme telepathic abilities that are effective over interstellar distances.

This is just a rumor as no one has officially confirmed it, but it does sound like a character that Gunn would introduce in his sequel. This is such a fantastically odd character, and if this turns out to be true, it will be cool to see how the director ends up utilizing him.
