Harrison Ford Reveals Possible Rey Spoiler for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

harrison-ford-reveals-possible-rey-spoiler-for-star-wars-the-force-awakens

With less than two weeks to go before Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters, Harrison Ford may have dropped some SPOILER information regarding Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the film.

During a Twitter chat with fans, Ford was asked what his favorite scene in the movie is. In his answer he revealed something we didn’t really know before. I’ve embedded the tweet below. If you don’t want to know what it is, don’t read any further.

So it sounds like Rey to going to actually get into a lightsaber battle with Kylo Ren! There is a scene that pops up in many of the trailers that we’ve seen for the film of Kylo Ren holding a lightsaber up to Rey’s face from behind. It seems like that could lead into some kind of duel, it could be the end of the duel. One thing I didn’t realize that might include her wielding a lightsaber!

We’ve seen no official imagery of Rey holding a lightsaber, so maybe that’s going to be a trick up her sleeve. Look at the image above. Maybe this the moment right before she somehow gets her hands on Finn’s Lightsaber and starts to go ballistic on Ren. It would surely be a pretty awesome surprise!

Of course, maybe there’s another fight scene later on in the film between them that hasn’t been teased in any footage. Either way, if it’s one of Ford’s favorite scenes, you know it’s gonna be good.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18th, 2015. It will launch a new trilogy of films in which the story will continue in Episodes VIII and IX, which are being directed by Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow, respectively.

TRAINSPOTTING 2 Cast Confirmed and Release Date Set for 2017

TriStar Pictures recently announced that it has acquired worldwide rights to Danny Boyle’s highly-anticipated sequel to Trainspotting! The movie still doesn’t have an official title, but it will see the return of the original characters created by Irvine Welsh

Boyle will reunite with screenwriter John Hodge, and as we’ve already heard, the entire principal cast of the 1996 film will return to reprise their roles. That includes Ewan McGregor as Rentorn, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Ewen Bremner as Spud, and Robert Carlyle as Begbie.

The press release also reveals that the film will start shooting in late spring 2016, and they are planning to release it in 2017 to mark the 21st anniversary of the original movie. Boyle had this to say in a statement:

“It’s been 20 years since we met these characters and John Hodge’s screenplay brilliantly explores what’s happened to them—and to us—in the intervening years. We are grateful to Tom and Hannah for their support and we can’t wait to get going.”

Tristar’s Hannah Minghella added:

“Trainspotting was a seminal movie for me. Like almost everyone my age, I had the ‘Choose Life’ poster on my university dorm room wall. I have wanted to work with Danny ever since, so the opportunity to collaborate on the sequel is truly a dream come true. It perfectly represents the filmmaker-driven movies I am committed to making at TriStar.”

Carlyle previously said that this script fro Trainspotting 2 was one of the best scripts he’s ever read, which tells me that fans of the original are going to be very happy with what Boyle is doing.

The sequel is loosely based on Welsh’s Tainspotting follow-up novel, Porno, but it has been explained that the movie will be its own thing. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Awesome Batman Fan Film - RED HOOD: THE FALLEN

0

I've got a spectacular Batman fan film for you to watch today called "Red Hood: The Fallen." In the story, Batman is seemingly dead and former Robin, Jason Todd, is out taking on the criminal underworld of Gotham City. As he is taking out some of the villainous members lurking in Gotham's dark shadows, he is also hunting down The Joker.

The film comes from Toby Bajrovic, and it has some impressive production value, including some great fight choreography that helps this film stand above a lot of the other fan films that have been made over the years.

I've always thought that the Red Hood was an interesting character. One of the things i like about his is that he will do certain things that Batman won't do to get the job done. One of those things is that he doesn't have a problem with killing bad guys. Check out the fan film below and let us know what you thought of its portrayal of the Red Hood!

New Info on Spider-Man's Place in the MCU, HIs Costume, and Why Tom Holland Was Cast

Fans are all waiting for the big Spider-Man reveal in Captain America: Civil War. We know he's going to show up, we know he'll fight alongside some of our favorite superheroes, but we still haven't seen him in action. Hell, we don't even know what he looks like yet! While we continue to wait for Marvel to give us something, we have some new information about the character to share with you. That info includes details on Spider-Man's unique position in the MCU, how his costume will be brought to life, and why Tom Holland was ultimately cast in the role of Peter Parker.

In an interview with Super Hero Hype, Holland explained why Peter Parker stands apart from the current Marvel superheroes, saying:

“I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask.”

He also talked about his emotional attachment to the character:

“I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up, I had countless Spider-Man costumes. Only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome! He’s always been a big part of my life and a big part of boys’ lives because everybody can relate to him.”

Then, during Comic-Con Experience 2015 in Brazil, co-director Anthony Russo talked with a Brazilian entertainment website, Super Interessante and provided some details about why Holland was cast in the role and also revealed that the Spider-Man costume he will wear will require some special effects. The following had to be translated with Google Translate, so it may be a little rough:

"Well, we researched a lot and do a lot of experiments for all the characters. We did the same with Spider-Man. We knew it had to be someone young, it was very important because we wanted to give this essence to the character, it is something unique in the Marvel Universe. Tom Holland is an amazing Spider-Man, people will love it. It was a very experimental process, placing him with other actors, especially with Downey Jr., we were learning as we did and are very happy with the result. But we are still working on some things, like the uniform. He's not ready because so much will be produced with special effects."

As many of you know, Captain America: Civil War is loosely based on the comic book mini-series by Mark Millar. Marvel and the Russo brothers obviously changed a lot of things up for the movie, but they still wanted to capture the essence of that comic. One small but cool element from that story arc is that Tony Stark provides Peter Parker with a red-and-gold Spider-Man costume. When asked if we would see that costume in the film, Russo said:

"The film will show a mix of what everyone is waiting for and a little twist. So yeah, that's what I can tell."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what exactly they're planning. Then, talking to Entertainment Weekly, co-director Joe Russo talked a little bit more about the casting process for Peter Parker and why they ultimately chose Holland.

"We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part."

He went on to praise Holland and his work as an actor, saying:

"He’s fantastic. Amazing. It’s like Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun. Rarely do you see a kid carry a movie like that."

It didn't hurt that Holland was also a talented dancer and gymnast.

"He’s also a dancer and a gymnast. He fits the part like you can’t believe. Another thing that we were really pushing for was to go young with the part. It’s the only way to differentiate it from what’s been done in the past. Get him as close as you can to the age that [the actor] is."

And that, in a nutshell, is how Holland landed the role! The directors really talk him up, and they obviously like him. The question is, will the fans? I'm pretty sure the answer will be yes... after we finally get to see some footage of him!

Holland will make his web-slinging debut in Captain America: Civil War, which comes out on May 6th, 2016.

J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy Talk About The Unprecedented Secrecy of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

0
0

The press junket for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was held in Los Angeles this past weekend, and Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping such a tight lid on the film that they refused to screen it for press beforehand. I've never heard of a junket taking place without press having seen the movie before, and I really hope this isn't going to set a precedent for how blockbuster films are handled because it's difficult to come up with relevant questions for the cast and crew of a movie no one has seen yet. I can easily see Marvel adopting this method for their future films, and it seems like because it's happening with The Force Awakens, it might happen with all future Star Wars movies as well. We'll have to wait and see.

In any case, I was invited to attend the press conference yesterday, and both writer/director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy separately spoke about the film's unprecedented amount of secrecy. I'll have more from the press conference for you in a different article, but I wanted to highlight their quotes about this topic specifically for those of you who are interested:

Abrams: I realized how engaged with the fans and forthcoming Lucasfilm had always been, and my nature — which is to keep things quiet — was something I was certain we were going to have fights about, in my wanting to keep the audience surprised when they went to see the movie. But Disney, to my shock, was arguing to not ruin, not reveal, not show, every story beat. We’ve all seen trailers for films that literally show you the movie in Cliff’s Notes form, and you go see the film, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, that was literally the movie. I saw it in a two minute and ten second piece.’ So I was very grateful that Disney actually took the lead on trying to keep things quieter, and obviously I ask all of you — we’re incredibly grateful for you being here — that when you do see the movie and hopefully talk about it to your fans and readers and stuff, that we maintain some level of surprise, so people can get to see the movie and don’t have it ruined for them just because it’s finally been released, which I cannot wait for, by the way.
Kennedy: I think right from the beginning, we’ve respected the fans. The fans have been the ones who have been focusing around making sure that everybody and anybody who walks into this movie gets to be surprised. We have so little things that surprise us anymore when you walk into see a movie. It’s all told in the trailers, it ends up online way in advance. I think that’s something that overwhelmingly — I’ve even had people say to me, ‘I don’t want to read anything at all.’ So they can get into the theater and actually have a pleasant surprise. So that’s really all that’s driving it. We have respected that in all ways we can.

There you have it. A little extreme? Definitely. But we'll find out if their extreme tactics were worth it when The Force Awakens hits theaters the night of December 17th.

Frank Miller Has Not Watched DAREDEVIL Yet...Disses Show For Using Elektra

Even if you don't like Frank Miller, you have to respect the many for never being afraid to share his opinions. Not many men will sit in a full room of geeks and diss one of the biggest hits of 2015, but Miller was very flat when he responded to a fan questioning if he had watched Marvel's Netflix hit, Daredevil.

No.

Bleeding Cool says Miller then went on to comment on the series' upcoming use of Elektra, saying that he considered himself to be the father of Elektra...

They can call it whatever you want, but not It will be the real Elektra.

This is likely not a diss on Elodie Yung, who will be playing the assassin in season two, but rather Miller's personal beef with Marvel's use of characters he made popular. Of course, Miller is well known for his work on Daredevil and is responsible for much of the character's popularity and success. I have to wonder what his real beef with the product is...then again, we're talking about a guy who's gone on record to say he hates every Batman film ever made.

THE FORCE AWAKENS: How Kylo Ren Is Responsible for the Creation of Captain Phasma

From the trailers, interviews, and images we've seen so far from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we know that Andy Serkis's Supreme Leader Snoke and Domhnall Gleeson's General Hux are villains in the new movie, but the characters of Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are the clear standouts when it comes to the film's villains at this stage in the game. They both look like fearsome, awesome characters, and according to writer/director J.J. Abrams, Kylo Ren is actually indirectly responsible for the creation of Captain Phasma. At the film's press junket in Los Angeles yesterday, Abrams was asked which character's costume design was the toughest to crack before production began, and he responded:

Michael Kaplan, the costume designer — I cannot wait for you to see what he’s done in this movie. There are so many cool, many you have not seen at all, costumes that are extraordinary. The most difficult one was Kylo Ren. We went through I don’t know how many hundreds and probably thousands of iterations and versions, and one of the great things about that was, the costume for Captain Phasma was designed. That was actually pitched as a Kylo Ren costume originally. For story reasons it didn’t make sense and didn’t work, but we suddenly realized, ‘Oh my God, this is one of the greatest-looking costumes I’ve ever seen.’ And he, then she, became one of my favorite characters in the movie. But the design of Kylo Ren was the most difficult one and when we finally saw the mask and the beginning of that design, it was really instantly clear that was the winner.

I'd never heard that story before, and thought it was a cool piece of trivia worth singling out of the massive press conference transcription. I'll have more from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press day for you in just a few minutes, so stay tuned.

Quentin Tarantino Says He Has Plans For KILL BILL VOLUME 3

0
0

While he's teased it for years, Quentin Tarantino has finally outlined what Kill Bill Volume 3 would be about if he did it. While he didn't straight out tell "What The Flick" he was committed to making the film, he did call it a possibility just short of probability. So what would KBV3 be about?

"I put the character Beatrix Kiddo through a lot, and so I wanted her to have this much time for peace," he said. "I wanted her to have some time with her daughter and not have to be in the genre machine and enjoy her life for a while."

Essentially he implied that if he were to revisit the film, it would be in events further removed from Volumes 1 and 2. I can dig that! Let's wait until Uma Thurman is good and gray and have the story focus on the young girl in the kitchen scene getting revenge or something! A leading lady in an action film who's in her twilight years? That sounds so Tarantino I can't believe he will not eventually do it. Watch the full interview below.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Flash Cameo and Spoiler Details Confirmed

0
0

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice costume designer Michael Wilkinson recently attended Comic Con Experience 2015 in Brazil, and while he was there, he confirmed a few things that fans have been wondering about, including the rumor of The Flash making an appearance in the film and the speculation that the scene in the trailer of Superman removing Batman's mask in the trailer is really a dream sequence.

When asked about Ezra Miller's The Flash showing up in the movie, he told Omelette:

"I’m not really at the liberty to talk about The Flash right now, but it’s something that you’ll be seeing in the future in our films. You do get a glimpse of him, of course, in Batman v Superman."

He went on to explain:

"He will have a thinner silhouette and will not be as strong as the other heroes of the Justice League."

Wilkinson went on to to talk about his excitement to see the character come to life on the big screen, and what Miller will bring to the character of Barry Allen:

"I’m really looking forward to taking the amazing, iconic costume for The Flash and interpreting it in a fresh way where Ezra Miller is playing The Flash. He’s an extraordinary performer, he has a sort of interesting sense of humor and the youth that will be great for Barry Allen and I think he’s going to make a great Flash."

The costume designer then revealed that the post-apocalyptic desert scene in Batman v Superman is actually a Bruce Wayne dream sequence. The outlet reports:

"Wilkinson revealed that, in Wayne's dream, the world turned into a post-apocalyptic desert in style of Mad Max, in which Superman has become a despot and has an army of followers, composed of soldiers and flying beings. They appear in the trailer,"

Even though those scenes looked freakin' cool, they always seemed a little out of place for me. It makes a lot more sense now that it's confirmed they are part of a dream sequence.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in theaters on March 25th, 2016.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Cast and Crew Talk About Making The Movie

0
0

Yesterday, Disney and Lucasfilm held a press junket for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Los Angeles. I was lucky enough to attend the event, which was moderated by J.J. Abrams' friend Mindy Kaling, and I transcribed all of the important bits of information that were revealed. I've written about a couple of them this morning already, but this article is going to include a bulk of the conversation from panelists Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, and actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong'o, and Adam Driver.

First up, I'll single out a few little tidbits about the movie you might be interested in knowing about. Abrams said there is NOT a post-credits scene on this film, and there are no Ewoks in the movie at all. Kathleen Kennedy also promised that Jar Jar Binks is not in the movie, so that debunks at least one fan theory that's been floating around.

The studio was filming the entire press conference, and they're supposed to be releasing that video to the press hopefully sometime today. When that becomes available, I'll embed the full thing for you here. In the meantime, you can read my transcript of the best moments below, in order of what I found the most interesting down to the least:

On Maz Kanata's relationship with Yoda:

Abrams: I do believe that Maz and Yoda, at one point, have crossed paths. But that isn’t something that, of course — due to the events of past movies [Yoda's death] — happens in this one.

Was Gwendoline Christie prepared for Captain Phasma to become an instant sensation among fans, and whether or not she'd be interested in playing Captain Marvel if Marvel Studios offered her the role:

Christie: I was very surprised and heartened at the overwhelming response to the character of Captain Phasma. I really felt what Kathleen and J.J. and everyone has created at Star Wars — I think J.J.’s been open about the fact that he wanted to respect the origins of the films and celebrate them but bring them into the modern day. Confirmation of that seemed to be, to me, in this amazing character of Captain Phasma, who is Star Wars’ first on-screen female villain. More than that, this is a character who, so far, we have related to due to her choices, due to her character, and not due to the way she has been made in flesh. Conventionally, that is how we have related to female characters. This, to me, felt very progressive, and the response from the audience and the fans has been so celebratory, it makes me think that this it the kind of thing people want to see. People want to see a more diverse reflection of society, and I feel incredibly privileged to play that part. If anyone else wants to offer me any work, then I am very grateful and willing to listen.

What does John Boyega think about the black Stormtrooper controversy, and what themes does he hope people take away from the final movie?

Boyega: For me, I’ve gotta be honest — I really don’t care about the black Stormtrooper stuff. I couldn’t care less. This is a movie about human beings, about Wookiees, spaceships, and TIE Fighters. It has an undertone and message of courage and a message of friendship and loyalty. I think that’s something that’s ultimately important. I watched the movie with Kathy just last week, and I really relate to Rey more than any of the characters. To be in a circumstance where you have to find something bigger than who you are within yourself is something that’s inspirational to me, and I think that people will take that away. In terms of the kids, all they’re going to be concentrating on is BB-8!

Is the new trilogy (Episodes VIII, VIII, and IX) completely mapped out, and how are the directors working with each other to move forward? [Very small spoilers ahead.]

Kennedy: We haven’t mapped out every single detail yet, but obviously everybody’s talking to one another and working together, and that collaboration I think is what is going to guarantee that everybody’s got a say in how we move forward with this. So far, it’s going great. J.J. and Rian [Johnson] have already talked at length because Rian is about to start shooting Episode 8. These guys are getting ready to head over in January, and then Colin [Trevorrow] will start working with Rian and spending a lot of time on set with us.

The most interesting part of that response for me was when Kennedy singled out "these guys" — which, at that point, were Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, and John Boyega sitting on the couch next to her — and said they were prepping to go shoot with Johnson on Episode 8. We knew Captain Phasma was going to be in Episode 8, but that's the first official confirmation that Poe and Finn are going to make it through the events of The Force Awakens and live on in another film. She must not consider that a spoiler if she openly admitted it to us like that.

Describing Kylo Ren:

Driver: (Joking) He makes a lot of videos for his mom. He’s a great cook. He’s a Scorpio. (Serious) I think he’s very unpolished and unfinished. I think what J.J. and Larry did, keeping all the vocabulary that everyone’s familiar with in Star Wars, and the Dark Side, and keeping that very much in tact but also adding a kind of recklessness or something that’s un-neat about it that people don’t normally associate with the Dark Side, being very organized and very in control and calm and in command.
Abrams: One of our thoughts was to try to do something a little different with that.
Kasdan: That’s why we were so excited about Adam playing this part, because there’s never been a character like Kylo in the saga. He hasn’t got his shit all together. Adam acts it so beautifully, because what you’re looking at, you’re expecting, ‘Oh, this is some evil genius,’ but what you’re getting is all of the contradictions and conflict that any one of us can feel at any moment. That’s what unique.

(Adam Driver was asked about contributing to the history of great antagonists in the Star Wars saga)

Driver: I feel like I was so aware of the movies and I have my friends’ kids now, they haven’t seen the movies, but they’re somehow so aware of everything that happens. I think that’s how I was introduced to them, through the merchandising, and toys, and Stormtrooper helmets and things like that. I tried to not think about that as much as possible. I remember early on, not thinking about him being bad or evil or a villain. Trying to make something that was three dimensional. That to me, when we were talking originally, seemed more dangerous and more unpredictable — someone who feels morally justified in doing whatever they need to, to publicly state that whatever they’re doing is right, seemed like something more active to play than just being evil for the sake of it. That’s not really fun to play.

The most important aspect of the original trilogy J.J. wanted to bring to this movie:

Abrams: When Kathy Kennedy and Larry and I started talking about what this was at the very beginning, the fundamental question was what did we want to feel, and what did we want people to feel when they came to this movie. That was really the beginning of the discussion, and the answer was the sense of discovery, exhilaration, surprise. The comedy that George Lucas put into Star Wars was, for me, the thing that made me love the movie. But when you look at all of the things that he got right, it’s impossible and stunning. For us at the very beginning, it was really about knowing why we were telling this story, and it was to give people that sense of possibility and magic that we all felt when we first saw the original Star Wars. But I will say that this is all to tell a new story. Meaning, it’s not a nostalgia trip. We had to go backwards in order to go forwards. If you look at four, five, and six, those are stories that continue. This is seven, so the history of seven will be what we’ve seen before. The fabric needed to be what we were familiar with in order to tell a brand new story.

Why is Harrison Ford making this movie?

Ford: It’s because it’s what I do. It’s what I like to do. It’s what’s fun for me. I had a chance to work with people I really admire doing something I thought was going to be fun, which actually turned out to be fun, and to work with J.J., whose work I really admire and have long known about. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Was it difficult slipping back into the role of Han Solo?

Ford: It seemed easy to come back to the character. Clothes make the man and I’ve walked more than a mile in those boots. I was interested in the described path of the character, I thought there was an interesting bit of business for the character to do, and I’d been having a real good time with J.J. Abrams talking about it and getting ready for the adventure of filming. So it was easy.

The biggest difference between filming the old and new Star Wars:

Ford: It's hard to say what the difference is. I can tell you how it feels. It feels familiar, it feels good. It’s good to be home, as Han says in the teaser trailer. I’m aware of the value that’s placed on these films by the audience and I’m gratified that they’ve been passed on, the first three have been passed on generationally through families, and that they’re still an audience for those of us that were in the original film. There’s still some value to them interpreting life somehow. It’s a bit of a mystery, but it’s very gratifying to be part of that.

Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley on the "girl power" aspects of the original trilogy and The Force Awakens:

Fisher: I am the beginning of girl power. Deal with it! No, I got to be the only girl on an all-boys set, which was really fun, putting things in their drinks and stuff like that. We drank through the whole trilogy in the beginning, and this was a sober set. That’s what J.J. brought to this. [Rey]’s more powerful; she takes on the physical power, and then I scream at them until they pass out. Not scream, I make fun of them. That what was really fun about doing anything that was ‘girl power-esque,’ is bossing men around. I know a lot of women out there haven’t done that yet, and I encourage you to do so later this afternoon.
Ridley: Obviously, Princess Leia and Carrie have been an inspiration for girls for years, and I’m definitely not quite there yet, but I hope Rey will be something of a girl power figure. I think with writing like J.J. and Larry’s, and a story of which she is woven into richly and holds an important role, I guess there’s no other way except to say that she will have some impact in a girl power-y way. She’s brave and she’s vulnerable, and she’s so nuanced. That’s what’s exciting playing a role like this. She doesn’t have to be one thing to embody a woman in a film. For me, she’s not important because she’s a woman — she’s important, and it just so happens that she’s a woman. She transcends gender, she’s going to speak to men and women, and that obviously started with Leia, and Leia’s still there kicking ass. We’ve got Maz kicking ass, too. So it’s wonderful to be a part of.

Did reading the script live up to everyone's expectations and their own wondering about what's happened since the events of Return of the Jedi 32 years ago?

Ridley: I wasn’t a huge fan of the whole thing. I’d seen them, and I had a kind of interest, but I missed the Star Wars boat. So I didn’t wonder that so much. Even so, it was very exciting finding out what did [happen].
Driver: I would say that it’s still called Star Wars…it’s thirty years later, and the exact same things are going on in a way, which I thought was so true to life. We have such short memories of huge events and mass genocide, and then we sort of forget about it, it seems. And the same people are in charge, and the same group of people, younger and older, come on and feel that their problems are unique and it’s all a cyclical thing. It seems like finding these people — a lot of things have changed, like the setting, but really, the circumstances are the same. I thought that was very true. That was what I took from it: less plot points, like ‘Oh, I always knew that Leia would be doing this, or Solo would be doing this.’ More like, ‘Nothing really changes.’

On outside inspiration while writing the script:

Kasdan: All the movies of Akira Kurosawa have influenced me throughout my career. That’s because he was sort of the Shakespeare of cinema. He did comedies, he did action films, he did Shakespearean drama. All of life is contained in each one of his films. Seven Samurai may be the greatest film ever made — it’s a personal drama, it’s an action picture. And when J.J. and I were working, we kept referring to that. We would talk about the great American movies that we loved and the things that had influenced the first Star Wars, Howard Hawks and John Ford and Flash Gordon. When George made A New Hope, he was influenced very much by Kurosawa and by Flash Gordon and by The Wizard of Oz. I think that all of those movies, you can feel them in A New Hope, and everything that’s in A New Hope has come down through the movies to this day.

What did it feel like getting to use the Skywalker lightsaber?

Boyega: I was very excited to use that thing, because I think blue suits me. It was amazing for me to read the whole script and to find out all of the things that Finn gets to do. For me, it’s like, I feel like for some reason, did J.J. know what kind of fan I was and write this role for me? I get to wear a Stormtrooper suit, a rebel jacket, I have a blaster, I use a lightsaber, I hang out with frickin’ Han Solo and Chewie, it’s just fantastic.

Did he have concerns about getting a limb hacked off?

Boyega: I did, because Adam Driver has a really long reach. And that’s an issue. But I did my Floyd Mayweather thing: just bob and weave.

Is there any romance in the film for Poe Dameron?

Isaac: Mostly with BB-8. Inter-droid romance? There’s a real warmth there. There’s give and take. That’s who’s got his back in that X-wing. I’d say if there’s any real romance for Poe, it’s in those two little balls. (Everyone laughs)

How much backstory they were told ahead of time:

Isaac: I think this has been one of the coolest things about working on this with J.J. and Lucasfilm, is that there’s been a real sense of collaboration with that kind of thing. There’s a bit of a sandbox element of it. We talk about those things and there was an evolution of the characters, even from the first meeting with J.J. and Kathy and Larry to what ended up on screen. For example, with me, after we filmed it, I was talking about at the very end of A New Hope in the medal ceremony, one of Guatemala’s claims to fame is that last shot when the ships are leaving, where you see the temples, that was shot in Guatemala. For me, the fact that I was born there, and that’s a Rebel base, and playing a Resistance fighter, and I was thinking, ‘Maybe Poe was there! Maybe that’s where he’s from!’ And then this comic book comes out called Shattered Empire, where Poe’s parents ended up going to Yavin IV and making sweet love. (Everyone laughs) So that’s an amazing thing — the first time talking about where a character comes from ends up in a comic book, and it’s kind of a beautiful thing. It feels like we’re creating these things together.
Boyega: I didn’t know much going in because of spoilers and that sort of stuff, but I do remember having the sides, which were loosely based on who Finn and Rey was, but I remember during my time screen testing, I was like, to Daisy, ‘There’s no way that our stories are so simple.’ And I still don’t know. [Glances at Kennedy.] So I’ve still got some conspiracy theories as a fan as to where Finn comes from and I’m still trying to figure that out. But I like that it’s a mystery.

How much did Kasdan and Abrams look at the extended universe when writing this script?

Kasdan: I think it had more to do with [Return of the] Jedi, and the continuation. We had four, five, and six, this was seven. We were aware, we were respectful of the canon, but we really wanted to tell a story that interested us and delighted us, and we didn’t really want any rules or parameters. We said, ‘We can do anything we want with this story. What would be the most fun thing to do on this page, and the next page, and the page after that?’ That was sort of the guiding principle, I think more than the canon or anything that came before.

The scariest moments:

Kasdan: I don’t associate the process with fear. J.J. and I jumped into the thing under a lot of time pressure, and we had fun. In fact, the first day we started real work on it, we said, ‘We must have fun with this every day.’ It’s really a privilege and you have to be really lucky to write the next Star Wars. So we didn’t really have fear. I think we had trepidation about fulfilling peoples’ expectations, would they be satisfied with what we came out with, but we didn’t want them to know what we were going to come up with, and this moment that’s coming up next week [the release of the film] would be a fresh moment for as many people in the world who are interested in it. So the only pressure is, can you do something that’s worth that much anticipation?
Abrams: The scariest day for me was when Harrison Ford was injured, which was just absolutely hideous. But every day, it felt like there were challenges because I knew how important this was to so many people, and that was never a presence that went away. Every decision I knew had this importance, and yet we had a day to make, we had a story to tell, and it was always about telling the best story possible.

Was this a solitary experience for Lupita Nyong'o because of her motion capture work in the film?

Nyong’o: J.J. had me be a part of principal photography, so my very first experience with motion capture was on the actual sets with the actual actors. I’m eternally grateful to him for giving me that, because it was a great way to get into this wonderful, crazy thing called motion capture. I got to be on those sets and see all those things and feel them, and the art direction — there’s so much detail, even when you’re standing on that set, it’s mesmerizing — audiences, I think, are going to have a very immersive experience much like we had filming it.
Abrams: I will say one thing that Lupita would not. She was remarkably tireless and willing to experiment with different versions of this character. It was kind of an amazing thing to discover over various iterations of Maz. What she sounded like, how she moved. I’ve never been through this before with an actor, where we’ve gotten to discover again and again and again how to better tell the story we were telling. I always felt guilty every time we started another session or reshoots, and every single time, Lupita was willing and game and deeply committed and into finding Maz Kanata’s voice. I’m eternally grateful.
Why would J.J. be interested in making this movie?
Abrams: This is a project that I felt incredibly lucky to be asked to be a part of…to a person on the crew, to a person on the cast, this was not a job. It was nothing I think any one of us took on because it was a gig and we were available. It was something that felt like a true passion and something that every single person brought much more than any of us could have expected. I do honestly feel honored to be a part of this movie.

That's all from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press junket. The film opens the night of December 17th.

Netflix has unleashed a beautifully badass trailer for their upcoming film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. The film sees the return of Michelle Yeoh, and it tells an epic story of "lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption" and will feature "breathtaking action in an epic martial arts battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of the Martial World." It's set 20 years after the events of the first movie and follows four heroes who are trying to protect the Green Destiny sword.

The movie was directed by renowned martial arts choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping, who has worked on films such as The Matrix trilogy, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, and Tai Chi Master. Yeoh reprises her role as Yu Shu-Lien in the film and Donnie Yen (Ip Man films) takes on the role of Silent Wolf.

The movie looks pretty freakin' awesome. I'm such a huge fan of the first film, so I'm very excited to see how this next one turns out. It looks like there are going to be some beautifully choreographed fight sequences, and you'll get to see some of them teased in the trailer.

The film will premiere on Netflix on Friday, February 26th, 2016 and will also be released in some IMAX theaters.

A Female Fan Got Kicked Out of a WALKING DEAD Convention For Biting Norman Reedus

It wasn't long ago that a man killed his friend while they were binge-watching The Walking Dead because he thought the friend was turning into a zombie, and now the AMC series has inspired yet another bizarre incident.

At the Walker Stalker Con in New Jersey, a female fan reportedly bit star Norman Reedus, who plays fan favorite Daryl Dixon in the show, while she was posing for a photo with him and fellow TWD actor Michael Rooker. After telling Reedus she likes to pretend she's married to him, she allegedly bit him and Rooker shouted "What the f*ck was that?" Security kicked her out of the convention and banned her from all future Walker Stalker Con events.

The woman's Instagram account is private, but someone took a screencap of a post in which she admits to biting him and tries to apologize:

Sorry lady — Reedus is known to be very cool with fans, but somehow I don't think he's OK with being bitten while posing for a photo. I wonder if this will have any impact on how The Walking Dead stars interact with fans from now on. There's always one bad apple who ruins things for everyone else.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Director Talks About If THE DEFENDERS Will Show Up

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know that the two-part Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the culmination of everything that Marvel Studios has been doing since the first Iron Man came out in 2008. We know it's going to feature a massive battle against Thanos, but the thing no one is really 100% sure about yet is who, exactly, Thanos is going to be fighting. We all assume that he'll be facing off against every hero in the MCU, including The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and many suspect that The Defenders — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, from the Netflix shows set in the same universe — will also join in on the action. But it turns out even the directors of the mega-blockbuster don't know if that's going to happen.

Anthony Russo, one half of the directing duo of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and both parts of Avengers: Infinity War spoke to an outlet at the Sao Paulo Comic-Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil, and his comments indicate things are still being figured out:

When we start to serialize the telling of stories it’s difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it’s more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel’s most popular characters, as does Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man (whose rights were held by Sony) became possible!

That just further clarifies the degree of separation between Marvel's movie and TV divisions. It seems like a crossover with The Defenders could happen, but they're not in play at the moment. It's still very early in the process, but after Civil War debuts next year, I'd expect that the Russo brothers are going sit down and start really hammering out the story beats for at least the first film, since it's supposed to hit theaters on May 4th, 2018.

Stephen Amell Says Arrow Would Beat Batman in a Fight

While attending the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, Arrow star Stephen Amell was asked if there was any chance that Batman's iconic villain The Joker could appear on the show. In his answer, he expalins why there is a possibility, saying:

“Well, I mean, the short answer is yes, of course. Within the DC Universe, if they are in the DC Universe, if you were to ask if Iron Man could come to Arrow, I would be like, ‘Well, no, probably not.' But of course, The Joker could come to Arrow, Batman could come to Arrow, Superman could show up on The Flash. There’s a whole myriad of options because again DC and WB have a slate of films coming up, and those films happen, and maybe Arrow’s still around when they’re done. Or maybe there’s a change and people are just like, ‘You know what, let’s invest in something that’s doing well for us.’ So you never know.”

He is then asked who he thinks would win in a fight between Batman and Arrow:

"Me. What do you want me to say? 'Well, Batman’s more experienced and his costume's cooler, and Arrow’s just a ripoff, so Batman would win for sure.' No, I would win, absolutely.”

Of course that's the answer he's going to give because he plays Arrow, but seriously...does he really think that? Probably not. Everyone knows Batman could easily take down Arrow in a fight. At least I think everyone knows that! Maybe there are a few people out there that think Arrow could take down Batman, but you'd be wrong. It's Batman! That's really the only kind of reasoning anyone needs.

Bullets Fly in New Trailer For Natalie Portman's Western JANE GOT A GUN

0
0

Jane Got A Gun has an uphill battle ahead of it. The film experienced some major production problems when its original director bailed the day filming was supposed to begin, but the producers ultimately brought on director Gavin O'Connor to direct, and it looks like he's been able to salvage the movie. Still, the perception right now is that this film had a hard time making it to screen, so it has a chip on its shoulder; it's going to have to be pretty fantastic for it to be remembered for anything other than its off-screen troubles. Thankfully, this new trailer from Lionsgate makes the film look pretty solid, and I'm definitely curious to see if it's going to be able to overcome its past and deliver some awesome western action.

Jane Got A Gun arrives in theaters sometime next year.
