IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY Parodies '80s Movies in Funny New Trailer

0

South Park parodied cheesy '80s ski movies in animation in 2002's classic episode "Asspen," and now it looks like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is going to do something similar in live-action. The show's eleventh season is set to premiere on January 6th, 2016 on FXX, and this new trailer sees the gang leaving the confines of Philly and hitting the slopes for some skiing action, backed by Stan Bush's amazing song "Dare," which I legitimately love without irony. (I actually interviewed Bush a few years ago for GeekTyrant, and you can read that here.) Watch the new trailer below:

Marvel Finds a Showrunner For IRON FIST Netflix Series

0
0

Marvel has sent out a press release revealing that they've found a showrunner for its Netflix series Iron Fist. Scott Buck will be the man to bring this project to life. Here's the first official synopsis for the show:

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

There's good news and bad news here. Buck was the showrunner of the last four seasons of Dexter, arguably running a once-great show directly into the ground and tanking it with what's considered to be one of the worst finales of the "prestige television" era. That's the bad news. The good news is that starting from scratch and able to establish a style, tone, and vision all his own from the very beginning, maybe Buck will be able to make this series his own and have it live up to the quality of the Marvel Netflix shows that already exist. Apparently his pitch blew Jeph Loeb and the people at Marvel TV away:

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”
“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and “Iron Fist” to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck.

It'll be interesting to see how Buck handles the story of Iron Fist, for two reasons. First, it's a character that could be seen as "problematic" in today's society, which is far more socially progressive than it was when this character was at his peak in the comic books. And secondly, on the surface there are some similarities with the story of Doctor Strange, so I'm looking forward to seeing how Marvel TV continues to distinguish themselves from the movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while still setting up shows that take place in that same universe.

Who do you think should play Iron Fist? Sound off in the comments.

Sylvester Stallone Won't Be a Part of That New RAMBO TV Show, So It Probably Won't Happen

0
0

Despite early reports that Sylvester Stallone was attached to executive produce and possibly reprise his role as John Rambo in a new TV show called Rambo: New Blood for Fox, Deadline now reports that Stallone will have no involvement whatsoever with the show.

“Contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all,” a spokesperson for Stallone said. Added Stallone, “I wish the others well with the project.”

The show was meant to explore the complex relationship between Stallone's Rambo and his ex-Navy SEAL son, but now that the star is no longer involved, Deadline says it's "unlikely" that the project will move forward at Fox. That's probably for the best — without Stallone, there's absolutely no reason to go through with this show. Hell, I'd argue that even with Stallone on board, there's no reason to go through with it if it was going to be on a network like Fox. The only way to truly do that character justice is to not sanitize his world, and that would mean putting him on a channel that would allow for intense violence.

I mean, have you all seen 2008's Rambo? It's one of the most violent mainstream movies I can remember. To jump from that to the kind of world you'd need to satisfy a major network like Fox just doesn't seem like a smart move, so hopefully the producers of this show will either let it die completely, or rewrite the whole thing, get Stallone on board, and then pitch it to a cable network.

USA Today has unveiled a cool new piece of concept art (above), as well as a new clip from the MCU: Phase 2 Collection box set that takes a look at Marvel Studios' upcoming film, Doctor Strange. In the clip, Kevin Feige and director Scott Derrickson talk about bringing Benedict Cumberbatch into the Marvel Studios fold, and how they're trying to keep Doctor Strange grounded in reality while at the same time allowing opportunities for mind-bending magical elements to permeate the story. Iron Man and Captain America Brawl in New CIVIL WAR Featurette

Update: It's been brought to my attention that the footage of Cap and Iron Man fighting in this video is actually from Avengers: Age of Ultron, not new footage from Civil War. My apologies — I did not remember those shots being from Ultron at all. The video's still worth watching, though. Again, sorry about the memory lapse. Original article follows:

We saw little sections of the face off between Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America in the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War, but this new featurette from EW shows the two going at it in a scene we haven't seen before. As the Russo Brothers, Downey, Kevin Feige, and more talk about the movie in this clip from the new Blu-ray collection (available tomorrow), we see the former friends in what appears to be Avengers Tower, when Cap suddenly hurls his shield all over the place and Iron Man retaliates with a blast from his repulsor gauntlet. Elsewhere in the video, Chadwick Boseman talks about Black Panther's role in the film, Chris Evans talks about the family aspect of the conflict, and we even hear briefly from Elizabeth Olsen about Scarlet Witch.

Check it out below while you wait for Captain America: Civil War to arrive on May 6th, 2016.

STAR TREK BEYOND Trailer Will Be Attached to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Looks like Star Trek Beyond will use the popularity of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to give itself a little boost of excitement. THR is reporting that the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond will be attached to The Force Awakens along with Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, and maybe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

It’s not really all that surprising that the next chapter of the Star Trek saga would join forces with Star Wars for marketing. After all, J.J. Abrams is producing the Star Trek films as well through his Bad Robot production company.

The report also says the other trailers that could jump on board the Star Wars train are The Jungle Book, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Huntsman Winters War, and Independence Day: Resurgence. So on top of seeing an incredible film, we are going to be treated with some awesome trailers as well, except for TMNT 2, if that ends up being the case.

Star Trek Beyond is being directed by Justin Lin, but there’s still no info on the story. We do know that it will finally see the crew set out on their five-year mission to explore new worlds and new civilizations. Lin previously talked about the film:

"As great as JJ’s films were, there’s still a lot to be mined from these characters. They haven’t really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn’t been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate. By the time this movie comes out, Star Trek will have been around for 50 years."

Star Trek Beyond will be released on July 8th, 2016.

Ant-Man and Spider-Man Will Provide Comic Relief in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

0
0

Captain America: Civil War seems like it will have one of the darker storylines that Marvel has taken on. As you’ve seen in the trailer, we are going to see some of our favorite heroes fight each other, and it’s going to be crazy! Thankfully, the whole movie won’t be all dark and serious. In a recent interview with OmeleteTV (via CBM), director Anthony Russo spoke about how there will be a balance of series and humorous tones. He explained:

“The film definitely has a more serious tone I think than any other Marvel [Studios] movie yet, and that's kind of natural to the process because you're really gonna turn these heroes, who have been friends and partners, against one another. And if we're gonna have them fight for a whole movie to the end,  there has to be a serious issue because these are smart people, they're likable people; they're not villains, they're good guys. And so you have to think very hard about a very complex situation that's gonna put them in conflict with one another for an entire movie.”

Even though this is going to be a serious film, it wouldn’t be Marvel without some fun comic relief. A lot of that comic relief will come from characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man. He said:

“At the same time, not all the characters in the movie have the same investment in the conflict. There are certain characters that come into the story a little later who don't have the same baggage that the Avengers have in terms of what's going on in the film. So they don't have as much darkness to deal with in the film, so they can be a little lighter and more fun. I think the movie has a healthy balance between very serious, interesting and very surprising storytelling, and sort of light, fun wits and humor.”

Russo confirmed that “characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man enter the story a little later,” and they will bring the comedy with them. He went on to talk about Black Panther’s role in the story:

“Black Panther is, first of all, an amazing character. We couldn't be more excited to bring him to the screen for the first time. He's very central to the story. He comes into the story pretty early, but what's great about Black Panther in this film is all the other characters break down into two sides - Captain America's side and Iron Man's side. Black Panther never quite chooses a side, he’s sort of on his own side for the whole movie which makes him very cool in this storytelling.”

We did see some footage of Black Panther chasing down Captain America in the trailer, so it looks to me like he chose a side! Anthony also discussed how he and his brother Joe managed to balance so many superheroes in one movie while still putting the focus on Captain America because after all, this is his movie.

“It's really difficult. They're all amazing characters, we and the fans love all these characters. They're played by amazing actors, so as filmmakers and storytellers, we have to give all those characters their due. You have to come to this movie; you've got your favorite characters. You want to see them do something amazing, have fun with them, be surprised by them. Our job as storytellers to figure out how to give you that experience. Some people have more prominent roles than others in the movie; Captain America has the most prominent role. Iron Man is the next most prominent role because he has that primary point of view that's pushing against Captain America in the film. And then the other characters kind of fill in around them, but I think all of them have great moments. So, whoever you love, hopefully you'll leave the movie happy.”

He also confirmed that Vision and Scarlet Witch, who have a romantic entanglement in the comics, will “both have strong stories that will cross at some point in Civil War.”

On May 6th, 2016 everything we’ve ever wanted to know about this movie will be revealed. I loved that first trailer, and I’m so freakin’ pumped up about seeing this story play out on the big screen!

7 Scenes Cut From Disney Animated Movies That You've Never Seen

0

There are a lot of changes that happen during the development of a movie. When a movie is completed and released for audiences to see, most of us never know what could have been. Not unless we go out and search for that information online.

Disney has had a lot of these development turns over the years, and ScreenRant points out seven of them in this video list that they called, "Disney Movie Scenes You've Never Seen." Some of the scenes presented in this video come from films such as Lilo & Stitch, The Lion King, Aladdin, Wreck-it-Ralph, Inside Out, and more.

Nobody does animated films like Disney, so it's tempting to think that their most classic stories wound up exactly the way the writers, directors and animators expected. But fans may never know what beloved characters, songs, and storylines wound up on the cutting room floor. Missed opportunities or dodged bullets, fans will want to see for themselves. Here are Screen Rant's Disney Movie Scenes You've Never Seen.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - 2 New Promo Spots and a Rey Featurette

0

Lucasfilm has released a couple new TV spots for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The first is an international spot that focuses on Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, and the second is called “I can Handle Myself” which focuses on Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

We also have a featurette in which Rey is also the center of attention. It doesn’t really offer up any new details on the mysterious character. It pretty much tells us what we already know, and that’s that she’s a scavenger on the desert planet of Jakku who ends up joining forces with Finn, Han Solo, and the rest of the resistance. But, it’s still worth your time, so check it out if you’re excited for the movie!

There’s a bit of new footage shown in these videos that will help you get through another day of waiting for The Force Awakens to be released in theaters on December 18th.

THE BLACKLIST Renewed for Season 4

NBC's The Blacklist is one of the most intriguing shows on network TV. it doesn't hurt that James Spader is so awesome in it! I'm happy to report that that the thriller has been renewed for season four! The news was first reported by The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp on The Blacklist: Exposed podcast and was later confirmed by NBC.

If you're not watching The Blacklist yet, you should definitely start. I waited until after the first season finished before I started watching, but I was hooked from the moment I started. It's exciting to know that we will be getting another season. I wasn't sure if it would happen because the ratings for the show dropped after they moved the air date from Monday to Thursday.

If its ratings continue to suffer, it's safe to assume that season four could be its last, which is sad because the show is so damn good! Right now it's the delayed viewings on VOD and other digital platforms that are keeping the show alive.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Will Be More Than One Game, and Why That's Good

CINEFILE 2015 Is Another Cool End of the Year Movie Mashup

0
0

Another end of the year movie mashup has been released, and it's called "Cinefile 2015." It was edited together by Miguel Branco, and it reminds us of all the incredible films that were released over this past year. I love the mood that the video has. Here's a note from the creator of the video:

What a wonderful year it’s been. Calling 2015 a successful year in motion pictures would be an incredibly vast understatement. To a large degree, our theater experiences were raised to towering new heights, our heartstrings were pulled, and our emotions were manipulated in the most beautiful ways possible. If that’s not pure cinema, I don’t know what is.

It’s funny – this is my third year doing one of these, and each time has become increasingly more difficult than the last. Although the editing process for this year’s project has been nothing short of a tremendous joy, it’s also been an emotionally draining one. 2015’s grand cinematic scope really inspired me to take bolder and more daring risks, stay true to myself, and most importantly, make something greater than what I initially set out to create.

Cinefile 2015 owes a lot to the loved ones, friends, films, albums, and trailers that inspired it. Trying to come up with the right way to show that gratitude and wide range of emotion was extremely difficult. Or, as the opening line from favorite film of the year goes, “I have no idea how to tell this story. I don't even know how to start it.”

2015 really was an amazing year in film, and it's still not over! I still have yet to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Revenant. After I see those I will be able to finalize my end of the year list of favorite films.

George Lucas Shares His Thoughts on STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

0
0

This last weekend, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy revealed that George Lucas had seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens and she said that "he liked it." But now Lucas shares his thoughts on the film in his own words.

Vulture recently caught up with the legendary filmmaker at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington D.C. The creator of Star Wars was being honored for his lifetime achievements in arts and culture. While he was walking down the red carpet, Lucas was asked what he thought about the movie, and this was his brief response:

"I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for."

It's good to know that the fans are going to enjoy it! His response is interesting because he doesn't really say that he liked it. He knows that the fans are going to love it, but at the same time his response says that this isn't the film he would have made...which is probably a good thing.

A couple of weeks ago, Lucas talked to Vanity Fair about how he and Disney went their separate ways because the studio didn't want to take the new Star Wars trilogy in the direction that Lucas wanted. He explained:

"The issue was ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans.’ People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems – it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘Fine.’"

If he really believes that, then why didn't he do that with the prequel films? The prequel films had more to do with politics than it did family. He was also throwing out spaceships and lightsaber duel eye candy all over the place!

I wonder if Lucas ever regrets letting Star Wars go. I know he got $4 billion out of the deal, but I wonder what he really thinks. I'd like to hear what he's saying about the film behind closed doors. At least he admits that J.J. Abrams is going to give the fans a film that we're going to enjoy.

In the end, it sounds like if Lucas would have made a new Star Wars movie, it wouldn't have been for the fans — it would have been for himself.

Drax Reveals The Origin of His Tattoos in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Deleted Scene

"This is the history of my life."

We have a deleted scene for you to watch today from James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. This is a touching moment in which Drax explains the origin of his tattoos to Rocket and Groot. A lot of the deleted scenes I've seen from Marvel films haven't really been that interesting, but this one is actually pretty great, and you get to learn a little bit more about Drax, his personality, and his history. All the markings on Drax’s body tell the stories of major events that happened in his life. Of course, the conversation leads to an argument between Drax and Rocket about know what it's like to go through family tragedy.

The video below originated at The Huffington Post, but you can watch the YouTube embed below thanks to ScreenSlam. The scene was obviously cut for time, but it would have been a good scene to leave in if they could have.

Bill Murray Joins Wes Anderson’s Stop-Motion Animated Dog Movie

0
0

We’ve already learned that Wes Anderson’s next film will be a stop-motion animated film based around dogs. This will be his second stop-motion film; the first one he made was Fantastic Mr. Fox, which I loved.

The Playlist is reporting that Bill Murray has joined the cast, which isn’t really a surprise because Murray seems to jump on board every Wes Anderson project that he can. The actor will join the previously cast Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Edward Norton, and Bryan Cranston. Murray had this to say about the film:

"I'm playing a dog. He's doing another, like a stop-motion animated kind of comedy sort of like 'Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ And it's a Japanese story and I'm playing a dog. I'm very excited."

It was previously revealed that the story would be “Japanese-inspired,” and that’s the most curious thing about it. I’m not sure what exactly that means. There are still no details on what that story will entail, or when we’ll see it, but the production seems to be coming together fairly quickly.

As a longtime fan of Anderson’s work, I’m excited to see how this film turns out.

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA Gets a Funny NSFW Mashup Trailer

0

If you have your finger on the pulse of internet memes and viral videos, you probably remember one from a few months ago in which a couple of Boston guys came across a sunfish while they were out on the water. The man filming it, Michael Bergin, cursed like a sailor (appropriately enough) and narrated the entire thing, and if you haven't seen it, at least the first few minutes are essential viewing to prepare you for what's to come. So take a look at the original (NSFW) video right here, and then meet me below for the rest:

Pretty ridiculous, right? Not as ridiculous as this new video by Tom Hyndman, who mashed up that video with the trailer for Ron Howard's new whale hunting film In the Heart of the Sea (which opens in theaters this Friday). This is pretty damn funny, and even though it's not the smoothest mashup I've ever seen, the exuberance in Bergin's voice paired with Howard's epic visuals is a perfect match. Again, make sure you're rockin' headphones if you're watching this at work, because there's some serious Boston accented swearing going on here.
